Unpleasant Revelations - DPxDC Ficlet Idea for the Stillborn Au
"Have you met my youngest, Damian, Mr. Masters?"
Its only from twenty years of long, hard experience and practice that Vlad doesn't increase the room temperature from 'borderline uncomfortably cool' to 'unbearably hot' the moment Bruce Wayne pulls his youngest and "only" biological son out in front of him.
He puts only in quotations because twelve year old Damian Wayne looks scarily, uncannily like one Daniel Brown. Jack and Maddie's foster son, second victim of their foolishness, and only other halfa in existence. Second only to him.
It's nauseating how similar they look. From the scowl and terrible glare on the young boy's face, to his brown skin -- which was only a few shades lighter than Daniel's, the shape of his nose, and even the strange winged edge of his eyebrow. Something that Vlad has long since come to find endearing on the child he considered a son of his own. The only difference was that Damian had dark, sharp green eyes.
Daniel's eyes were blue. The same glacier shade as his father's, who stood behind Damian with a proud, oafish smile on his visage.
It was infuriating how similar they look. Vlad might not have rapidly swung the room temperature from one extreme to the other, but he can't stop himself from letting the fury burning within his core from slipping out and raising the temperature up a few degrees.
Because it really only meant one thing.
Damian Wayne and Daniel Brown were related.
Damian Wayne and Daniel Brown were brothers.
Standing in front of him, it was clear as day. He can already picture a phantom image of Daniel standing beside Damian, the same scowl written on his face, the same glare carved into his eyes. The only difference being the dark, exhausted circles beneath them that seemed to be permanently painted onto his skin. The only thing missing being the permanent loneliness and vigilance permeating his being like a scar.
This, if revealed, would be enough to ruin Bruce Wayne's reputation. Or, at the very least, darken it quite a bit. The great philanthropist Bruce Wayne with another secret blood child? One related to his youngest? One that had been put into foster care? Seemingly thrown away?
It would be a firestorm.
One that Vlad is not keen on starting.
It would ruin Bruce Wayne's reputation, yes. But it would hurt Daniel in the process -- the harassment he would face alone might just be enough to break that fragile child completely. That was just not something he could allow. Or, even worse, bring him into his biological father's care and custody -- something Vlad was even less willing to allow.
It's not out of kindness to Wayne that Vlad will keep mum about this.
His grip on his champagne flute tightens, just a bit. He's still aware enough of the world around him to not let it shatter in his hands. His plastered, pleasant smile tightens around the corners, and he forces his focus to slide from Damian to Wayne.
"The resemblance is uncanny, Mister Wayne." He says, slanting his smile to the side slyly. Although he's not talking about the resemblance between Wayne and his son. Rage simmers beneath his skin, burning coal and embers in the core of his chest, nestled between his lungs, as he meets the man's eyes.
Wayne swaggles his head proudly, his ditzy smile widening as he squeezes his son's shoulder affectionately. Bastard, Vlad wants to spit.
He breathes in through his nose, and exhales out through his mouth. The champagne in his hand cools, and stops its unusual bubbling.
The Damian boy scoffs under his breath, his mouth still coiled upward into a scowl. With the revelation of his blood relation to Daniel evident, Vlad's not sure if he should find it endearing or not.
He is not Daniel, so he decides that it's just simply irritating. He decides to ignore it.
"And you said he was your only biological son?" He asks, voice lilting and head tilting. He knows its a suspicious question at worst, insulting at best. But considering Wayne's past proclivities, he can hardly call it an unexpected question.
Damian puffs in great offense, face twisting angrily. It reminds him of Daniel when Vlad insisted that he was wrong about something or other, and for a moment his heart swells, fond.
But this is not his child, and so the feeling quickly crashes and burns, simmering back into rage. This was not Daniel -- this was his replacement. A replacement that Wayne was free to keep.
Wayne chuckles, idiotically, as if he'd said some funny joke. Vlad's other hand, the one gripping his cane -- something he's required ever since he was dispatched from the hospital all those lonely years ago -- tightens instead. He grinds his teeth -- him and Jack Fenton would get along like a house on fire, he hates it.
"I can understand why you'd ask that, Mister Masters," Wayne says, squeezing Damian's shoulder again, "but yes, Damian is my only biological son. Although that doesn't mean I don't love my other children any less."
Bastard.
For all his posturing and flouncing about caring for his city and his children, Vlad never would have thought the Prince of Gotham capable of abandoning one of them.
But, well.
They all have their dark secrets.
And what one man throws away, another man picks up. If Bruce Wayne didn't want the treasure child that was Daniel Brown, then Vlad Masters was more than happy to take him instead.
"I see."

Ecto-Implosion 2024
Credit to @chaseacer-ghostedition for their amazing art.Fic below
The table broke the silence with a loud complaint. With heavy groans, the table cracked in two, and the collapsed ghostling began melting on top of the broken heap; a smashed table and its splattered breakfast. Dripping flesh, spilling like tipped soup, oozed and mixed with the food, making a runny mash and green milky mess stick and stain the mansionâs expensive carpet. Â
Dan leapt back to get out of the splash zone as the ghostling struggled to get up in a puddle of their own ecto, the smushed food, and broken crockery. Feeling a little homicidal about the ruined meal, Dan fired up an ecto-blast - no need to go ghost to finish off a ghost that can barely keep itself together. Dan fully aimed to turn the intruder into a burnt smear.
âNo, Stop!â
Vlad shouts as he forcibly moves in-between them to block Dan. Dan rears back in sheer surprise. His ecto-blast fizzles out and a pair of red eyes stare at Vlad in wide disbelief. Dan's utterly bewildered at Vlad's vehemence in stopping him. Dan felt his lips twist into snarl. His chest ached with defensive hurt at the implied reproval and rejection in Vladâs actions of Danâs actions. This hurt surged when Vlad, without further word or explanation, dismisses Dan and turns his back on him in favour of giving his attention to the ghostling instead. The ghost that had so rudely and messily intruded breakfast.Â
Dan watched Vlad get on his knees and, whilst skirting the disgusting mess the ghostling had made, Vlad softly approached the intruder. But the moment Vlad opened his mouth to say something, he got punched in the face.Â
âI know I deserve that. But -â Vlad gets scratched on the other cheek. The man takes a deep breath. âIâ and Vlad catches the third blow in his hands - that final blow had been the weakest of the three. Dan sneers at the feral behaviour.Â
âThe fuck? Is it rabid?â Dan calls out derisively.Â
âLanguage,â Vlad reprimands Dan.
âWho the fuck are you calling an it?!â The ghostling snarls, wriggling and wrenching their hand free from Vlad's grasp before unsteadily pulling itself onto its feet. Vlad easily lets the ghostling go, with no reprimand for its language Dan sulkily notes. And still Vlad, now standing, continues to give it his full attention.Â
âEnough. I understand that I very much deserve your wrath, but I'd rather you not waste your energy when you're so clearly not well. Let me help you,â Vlad patiently offers. Dan crossed his arms and huffed, as he rolled his eyes. Dan could not see why, after being so violently rebuffed, Vlad even still bothered.
âOver my fully dead melted body will I accept your help Vlad,â the feral ghostling snarled, âI'm going to Danny.â
âExcuse me?!â Dan pulls a face, âare you talking to me?â
The ghostling pulls her attention away from Vlad and for the first time, it properly sees Dan face to face. At first their expression (what of their face that isnât gooey and dripping) is one of shock. Then it morphs into outrage, flickers with disgust, as it settles into a sneer. The ghostling sends Vlad a venomous look.
âI see that you've finally got the son you've always wanted,â Danielâs failed clone snarled up at him. Â
Taking a deep breath, lashing out in anger would be the wrong thing to do, Vlad then chose to speak to the failed clone in a conciliatory tone.Â
âOk I know what it looks like but it's not what it looks like,â he tries to placate. Itâs unsuccessful. The failure shoots Vlad a deadpan look. Vlad barely manages to suppress a flinch.
âSo heâs not a clone of Danny?âÂ
Vlad grimaces at the pointed and justified accusation. From behind, Dante belligerently interjects.
âNo Iâm not. Now who the fuck are you?â he vulgarly asked. Vlad deeply sighs. âTruly this is karmaâ, he thinks to himself.
âThis is my daughter, Danielle.â The words lie heavy on his tongue as the meaning of what he just said slowly settles in his mind. The implications and the responsibility he had so easily forgotten and discarded smacks him full force in his face. This disaster of a clone was his daughter! And she was desperately hurt.
âI beg your fucking pardon,â Dante shouts at Vlad before turning to glare Danielle. He looks at her with extreme distaste.
Danielle meets Danteâs glare with a sharp sardonic smile, her lips ready to unleash barbed words in retaliation.Â
Vlad quickly looks back and forth between his two children. He feels a rising panic at his loss of control of the situation and a sinking sense of alarm at their burgeoning hostility.Â
âOh no, did you think you were an only child?â Danielle asks with saccharine sweet venom. Her eyes glint with malice. âNah Vladâs made lots of us clones.â She cocks her head and faux-lightly asks, âI wonder how many failures lie between me and you?âÂ
Her words were initially directed at his son to hurt him, but Dani then switched targets. She aims her rage onto Vlad and stares him down. Vlad is bereft of speech, guilt and shame had seized his tongue. From behind, Vlad hears Dante sputter back an answer.Â
âNo, I mean yes, I mean shut up.â Rage and confusion has clearly deadened his sonâs usual eloquence.
Dante moves out from behind Vlad and into his line of sight. He excludes Dani by pointedly turning his back on her, thus also entirely blocking Vladâs view of Danielle. Dante locks in full direct eye contact with Vlad. Â
âYou have a daughter ?! Is that thing,â Dante blindly points, âsupposed to be my sister?!â he whines with teenage entitlement. Blasely lounging on the floor behind Dante in a gooey puddle of her own ectoplasm, Danielle interrupts.Â
âDonât worry, Vladâs not my father,â she reassures Dante in a relaxed tone between attempts to mop and squeegee her melting body back together. âI disowned him the day he left me to die because I wasnât Dannyâs perfect clone son,â she seethes.
Dante silently waits for Vlad to give his side of the story.
âDo I have a daughter? In a manner of speaking, yes.â Vlad tentatively admits. âAfter all, I am responsible for her creation. But as you can see our familial ties have been severed. That being said,â Vlad moves forward so that speak to his daughter over Danteâs shoulder, âDanielle please, will you let me help you? You are quite literally dissolving before my eyes.â
Danielle loudly scoffed, âYou never cared before.â
âAnd I apologise for that. My previous behaviour, especially towards you, has been shameful.â
Danielle freezes and looks up at Vlad, truly gobsmacked.Â
âWho even are you?â Danielle gasps. âAre you a clone?â
Vlad flinches. âNo Iâm not a clone,â he denies. He finds himself surprisingly hurt by her derisive disbelief. But it was understandable. Danielle, was the child that he had for a time raised like a daughter, and he had betrayed her. For the single act of not being a perfect copy of Daniel, he had not even wanted to save her. Why would she believe that he cared about her physical distress now when he had so callously proven that he had ânever cared beforeâ? Why wouldnât she logically deduce that such an offer couldnât possibly come from him? Now Danielle was staring up at him with utter revulsion.Â
From the floor Dani stared up at Vlad, who had just apologised and then denied being a clone, and wished she was anywhere but here, doing anything but this. She wished at least she had Danny there with her whilst she was dissolving into a puddle of goo. Danny, even if he didnât have any Ecto-Dejecto on him, would at least be more helpful and reassuring, than Vlad and his awful, moody, perfect clone son.
It had all gone so wrong, so quickly. One minute she was fine, the next she realised she was feeling really faint. By the time she realised it was because she was destabilising again it was already a race against time and she was losing. Badly. Being in a whole different state, flying took energy she couldnât afford to lose but, if she was somehow going to make it to Danny, not flying would take time she couldnât afford to waste. It had been exhausting. Both mentally and physically taxing to balance out her limited time of existence against her remaining distance and stamina. But she had almost made it. She had made it to Amity Park. All she had left to do was to find Danny. Or at least one of his friends, or even Valerie, or Dannyâs sister Jazz. They hadnât met before but she was still an option, a better option. But no. Instead when her powers guttered, and glitched, and she was free-falling to Earth, unable to restart her powers and go ghost, it was Vladâs fucking mansion she fell through the roof of. This was a nightmare. She needed to leave. But her powers were out of reach, and her body was struggling to remain solid.Â
Meanwhile that manipulative, heartless, piece of shit was pretending that he wanted to help her. As if she couldnât see Dannyâs shitty perfect clone standing angrily right there in front of her. Therefore Vlad was, evidently , still on his bullshit. So no, she wasnât going to believe his nice words and promises, never again. She wasnât going to be tricked, or used, or manipulated to somehow hurt Danny. Even if Vlad finally got his perfect clone son, there was no way he was done being a total bastard.        Â
âI only wish to redeem myself,â Vlad lies. He looks so apologetic and honest and genuine. Dani wants to scream in his face. It couldnât be real . This was all lies. Vlad was just, once again , lying and trying to trick and manipulate her. Just like he had done to her, just like he had done to Valerie.Â
Dani flings herself forward, heat seething beneath her skin, as she fires up an ecto-blast. Her fist is raised but before can she fires a shot, goo squelches between her clenched fingers.
Like a deflated balloon, Dani lets her anger go - her anger is causing her to destabilise faster. Defeated by her own body, Dani miserably watches her arm turns to liquid. She calmly pats her flesh back into shape like itâs soft clay. When she is done sheâs surprised to find Vlad staring silently at her with a concerned and worried look on his face.
She asks squint-eyed, âAre you Ok? Are you like possessed? Have you been brainwashed, or like are you under magical influence or?â
âI'm sincere.â
âSounds fake.â
âWhy?!âÂ
Dani drags her judgemental gaze over to look side-long at the other clone in the room. She silently lets that make her argument for her. Vlad had the good grace to at least look sheepish. Â
Dani looks Sad Vlad up and down. She internally groans at what she is considering doing. She looks Sad Vlad up and down again. Dani gustily sighs.
âOk Vlad, if this isn't a trick AND you're not brainwashed AND you do want to help me then take me to Dannyâ demanded Dani. Vlad agrees suspiciously quickly. âI'm also going to need a bucket,â Dani orders. From her shoulder, a blob of flesh drips and stains Vladâs expensive carpet.
Dannyâs shitty perfect clone pulls a face, âEw.â

Family Traditions (We Are a Family...Right?)
Summary: Summary contains AGIT spoilers! Inspired by the Christmas season, Vlad takes his two charges Dan and Dani to select a Christmas tree for their first Christmas together. Dani is thrilled by the outing, Dan...not so much. And Vlad is left to ruminate on his nostalgic memories and the meaning of the word family.
Happy Holiday Truce @northerngrail! I'm your Secret Santa! I really hope you enjoy your gift this year! Thank you for the wonderful prompts! I decided to go with this one for your gift:
Prompt: The Masters family (Vlad, Dan, Dani) doing something incredibly stereotypically "family bonding" ie: fishing, road trip, etc. And suffering through it (happily)
AO3
CW: AGIT Spoilers!
Family Traditions (We Are a Family...Right?)
He didnât know what drove him to think this idea would go well. Maybe he thought this living arrangement meant more than it actually did. Maybe he finally had some hope that something would change. Or maybe he was just getting soft and senile in his old age. Vlad realized with a sharp jab of annoyance mixed with pain that it was probably the latter.Â
He couldnât really put a name on what living situation he had now with the young Danielle and the redemption-seeking Dan. Parent? No, that felt far too familiar. Warden? In the case of Dan that sometimes felt appropriate. Caretaker? He certainly did watch out for them, but even that seemed a little distant for the paternal relationship heâd started to build. Guardian? That seemed to fit the best as a good mix of responsibility and affection.Â
But would that make them a family? He felt loath to ascribe that much affection and companionship towards what they had. He could catch a glimpse of it sometimes, especially from Danielle, but he didnât feel that quite met the criteria for family. Then again, he didnât have the best example of that growing up, but when he looked at what the Fentons hadâŚhe didnât see that in his current living situation.Â
So if he didnât see them as a family, then why did he think it wise to embark on something that most would consider a family tradition? He still couldnât rationalize those competing principles in his mind, just like he still couldnât explain the pull he felt towards this activity. He could say he got caught up in the infectious holiday spirit surrounding him, or the yearning for a family tradition, but in reality it had been a thought: a simple thought that pushed him to change his entire approach to the month of December. This was the first Christmas he would spend with children under his roof - and he painfully realized it would be the first Christmas he would spend with anyone under his roof since he was a teenager - and he needed to make that special for them. Whether he was their parent, warden, caretaker, or guardian, that meant he bore the responsibility of giving them a Christmas and rolling out all the stops. The decorations. The stockings. The presents. The Christmas meal. The Christmas movies. And that also meantâŚthe Christmas tree.
Wrangling them into the car proved to be a challenge. Dan was a malevolent, violent ghost stuck in a teenagerâs body, which proved to be a disastrous combination on the best of days, and Danielle was mischievous and far too inquisitive for her own good. Neither of them responded well to the idea of an unannounced drive to an undisclosed location for an activity. His suggestion was met with suspicion and questions, and even though he managed to convince them to join him in the car, the suspicious and inquisitive questions had not ceased.Â
Christmas music crooned out of the stereo to set the mood as Vlad turned off the highway and onto a country road. Sure some people sold suitable trees in the city, but this was less about the tree and more about the experience, and he wanted to find a small local shop off the beaten path. As they pulled into the small dirt parking lot, Danâs eyes focused on the large cars with cables and trailers and harnesses already equipped. He watched as a family walked out from under a white canopy strung up with warm Christmas lights as they pulled something heavy behind them.
Dan shook his head as he frowned. âNoâŚno wait no. I see what youâre doing here. Are weââ
âPicking out a Christmas tree!â Dani interrupted in sheer joy as she pressed her face against the cold car window to look out at the selection of pine trees that covered the snowy ground.Â
âYes, that is what we are doing,â Vlad confirmed as he out-maneuvered someone to get a close parking space. They didnât need a closer parking space - all of them were fit and able to walk and carry a tree a long distance - but this was about the principle and the status of managing to find and obtain a closer parking space.
Dan groaned as he slumped into his seat with his arms crossed over his chest. âWhy canât we just get a plastic tree from Target like everyone else? Or better yet, none at all.â
âBecause thatâs no fun,â Dani pouted as she turned around in her seat to face herâŚsibling? Herself? Her future? Vlad wasnât quite sure how to quantify and label their relationship either. âThis is so much better! Iâve seen this on TV. You run around and look at all the trees and pick the best one. Donât you want to do that?â
âNo,â Dan quickly retorted.
âReally?â Dani pressed.Â
âI would rather be in the thermos.â
âWe can arrange that,â Dani muttered under her breath as she turned to look back out the window.
Vlad took a moment to build his patience (a patience heâd been working incredibly hard to develop after finding himself a guardian) before he turned around to look in the back seat. âNo one is being sucked into a thermos. Now we are going to look at some Christmas trees. Maybe we donât need to look at all of the trees,â he conceded. Dani opened her mouth to protest but Vlad held a hand up. âWe can find a perfectly good tree without looking at all of them. But we are going to look, understand?âÂ
Dan and Vlad locked eyes for what felt like minutes to Vlad, but he knew in reality it only lasted a few moments. Heâd engaged in his fair share of these battles of wills with the malevolent ghost before (and heâd lost his fair share as well), but he had a purpose this time and the genuine hope this would do them all some good, and that pushed him to stand his ground.Â
Finally Dan huffed out an annoyed breath and stepped out of the car. Vlad slumped in his seat in relief. He really didnât want this argument to escalate further, but with Dan he never knew. He genuinely felt that the ghost was trying to make good on his second chance, especially since they both knew Clockwork kept his eye on them, but sometimes he acted out in anger and it turned violent. Vlad could take the abuse until he could calm him down, but he preferred not to cause a panic in public around so many families.
Dani seemed to sense their victory. The tension bled out of her and a smile returned to her face as she jumped eagerly out of the car. He had originally been wary of bringing Danielle into the house after he took charge of Danâs rehabilitation, but she had actually proven to be a stabilizing force in the house. Maybe she served as a gentle reminder of Danâs prior innocence, Vlad couldnât quite say, but in the absence of Jazmine (who Dan surprisingly listened to), Danielle could hold quite a bit of sway. They still argued, but she could hold her own and put him in his place when needed. Sometimes they even teamed up, and while Vlad appreciated seeing them working together, that never bode well for him.
He followed his two charges out of the car and led them towards the first row of trees as the snow crunched underfoot. What a stereotypical sight they must make: the single parent leading a sullen teenager and a wide-eyed younger child to pick out a Christmas tree. It felt reminiscent of those horrible Hallmark channel movies that he absolutely did not hate-watch in secret, but how wrong anyone would be to think that their arrangement was anything close to that stereotypical display.Â
âDonât even look at the prices,â he instructed as they reached their first row of trees. Wafts of fresh pine scent assaulted them, and Vlad took a moment to breathe deep of the nostalgic smell. He couldnât wait to have it spread through the living room once they installed the tree. âJust pick out a tree you both like.â
Dani clapped her hands happily and ran off down the row to look at trees further in, but stopped short as soon as Dan spoke up and pointed ominously at the very first tree. âThis one.â
Dani stopped and turned around as she stomped her foot. âUgh, you dummy! You didnât even look at the rest of them!â Vlad raised an eyebrow because Danielle may very well be the only being in both the realm of the living and the realm of the dead who could get away with calling Dan a dummy.
âI didnât need to. I like this one,â he said firmly.
Dani opened her mouth to argue again, but Vlad spoke first. âAnd why do you like this one?â Maybe he had a genuine reason for liking this tree, but he doubted it.
âBecause itâs the first one.â
Both Vlad and Dani groaned. âWeâll keep your preference in mind, but weâll keep looking at other trees,â Vlad decided. He didnât want to dismiss Danâs preference if he truly felt a connection to that tree, but he had a feeling the only positive quality that three possessed was being the first of the lot.
Dan retreated further into his sulk as he bowed his head lower, but he trudged after them as Dani ran through the trees. They had their work cut out for them, because all the trees were lovely. The recent snow dusted the branches with white powder and it looked like a perfect winter wonderland; he would be happy taking any of them home. Thankfully Dani seemed to have a vision and she inspected trees that caught her eye with an expert, critical gaze.
âWhat about this one?â Vlad suggested as he pointed at a well-shaped tree that Dani walked right past.
She turned to give it a second look as she placed a gloved hand to her chin, but she shook her head. âNope. Itâs tooâŚpiney.â
âTooâŚpiney?â Vlad asked in confirmation.
âWhat the hell does that mean?â Dan asked as he raised an eyebrow.
She shrugged. âI donât know. Itâs more of a feeling. Itâs justâŚtoo much pine.â And as if that statement cleared everything up, she dashed off to another tree.
âSheâs drawing this out,â Dan complained.
Vlad sighed. âWeâve barely been here five minutes; this is hardly being drawn out.â
âThere was nothing wrong with that tree,â Dan pointed out. âShe shot it down because she doesnât want to be done.â
âAnd whatâs the harm in that?â Vlad probed. âLet her look at some of the trees, get a feel for whatâs out there, and then we can press her into choosing one.â
Dan rolled his eyes and trudged after them as he scuffed his boots stubbornly through the snow. Occasionally heâd kick the trunk of a tree just to watch the snow shake and fall from the branches, but mostly he sulked behind them while Dani debated the features of different trees and the quality of their pine needles.
âOh stop looking like youâre being tortured,â Vlad finally spoke up. âThis is far from the worst thing youâve ever had to endure.â
âDonât you remember I hate Christmas?â Dan pointed out.
âPart of you may,â Vlad conceded. He remembered hearing Jack complain incessantly about how young Daniel could not get into the spirit of Christmas. Heâd planned to use that at some point to his advantage in recruiting the young Daniel, but nowâŚwell he had enough versions of the boy that he didnât need to add another under his roof. âBut the other part of you secretly loves Christmas. I know because that part is me. So maybe you should listen to that other part.â
âI usually lean towards hatred,â Dan quipped sullenly.
Dani poked her head out from behind a nearby Christmas tree, her hat covered in snow. âWell, then maybe you shouldnât.â She gave Dan a pointed look and a shrug before she disappeared back behind the foliage.
Vlad had to hide a chuckle behind a gloved hand at how simple the suggestion seemed. Danielle had a way of cutting through the attitude to find the cheery solution. He didnât know where that quality came from, because while Daniel could be overly hopeful at times, he wouldnât necessarily describe the boy as cheery. She hadnât had a cheerful existence so far (he meant to change that) so he couldnât say that positive outlook came from her prior experiences. Maybe she forced herself to adopt that perspective specifically to deal with her experiences? Heâd have to ponder that a bit more. But whatever the explanation for her optimistic demeanor, he appreciated her view on the world and tried to adopt a little of it himself now and then.
Dan also seemed intrigued by her suggestion because he grew quiet and pensive. It wouldnât last long, it never did, but maybe he took some of what she said to heart.
Suddenly a tree caught Vladâs eye and he stopped in front of it. A wide base with a tapered point, taller than him, no patchy spots - it resembled the quintessential tree from any holiday catalog. âDanielle, what about this one?â Vlad suggested as he inspected the branches. He gave them a good shake and they seemed sturdy and capable of holding even his heaviest Packers ornaments.
Dani doubled back and gave the tree some serious consideration. She walked around it a couple times and even got down onto her knees to look up under the tree at its bones. She scooted out from under the branches and shook her head. âNo, thatâs not our tree.â
âAre you kidding me?â Dan snapped. âItâs perfect!â
âThatâs the problem,â Dani stated as she lifted up one of the branches. âItâs too perfect. You want the tree to have some character.â
âI canât believe this,â Dan groaned as he looked up at the sky like it held some kind of salvation.
âWell, then weâll keep looking,â Vlad agreed, though it pained him to walk away from this picture-perfect tree.
âI still donât understand why weâre doing this,â Dan spoke up.
Vlad took a moment to close his eyes and collect his patience before he spoke up again. âBecause we need a Christmas tree,â he tried to say through a controlled, even tone.
âOkay, but why are we doing this?â Dan asked with added emphasis on his real question. âWhy not just send Skulker to grab one? You send him on all your other mundane errands.â
âBecause he wouldnât grab the right one. And he wouldnât take the care needed to transport it back. And heâs on a date.â There, three practical reasons that should hopefully quell Danâs query and avoided the true emotional reasons for the trip.
Dan stopped abruptly as he blinked a couple times. âHeâs what?â
Vlad turned around and quickly noticed the shocked wide eyes and gaping mouth, and he took the slightest bit of delight that he could catch the ghost off guard like that. He actually greatly resembled Daniel in that moment in more than just appearance. He didnât often see pieces of the Daniel he knew in Dan - he must have torn it all out when he rid himself of his emotions - but occasionally they would bleed through. It was refreshing to see. âWell, he didnât call it a date. Heâs off destroying the world with Technus. But itâs a date. We all know itâs a date.â
Dan shook his head minutely as a look of revulsion colored his shocked expression. âI donât want to hear that.â
âWhat, do you have a problem with love?â Dani asked as she emerged from behind them. She had clearly been crawling around under trees because pine needles stuck out of her hat and jacket.
âNo - I mean yes,â he countered quickly. âYes. I hate love.â
âRiiiight,â Dani said as she rolled her eyes. She gave a slight wink to Vlad who hid a chuckle behind his glove. âHey, shouldnât we be worried about the âdestroying the worldâ part?â
Vlad waved a hand dismissively. âOh, I wouldnât be too worried. Itâs Skulker and Technus after all: hardly a pair to be concerned about. Besides, Iâm sure Daniel will find a way to ruin their fun.â
âFirst good thing that bratâs done,â Dan quipped.
Dani put her hands on her waist as she leaned in close to Danâs face. âWhy are you so against them dating?â she asked as she squinted to study his face.
He took a step back and lightly shoved her out of his space. âBecause Iâve seen them in the future. Look, can we talk about anything else? Like what about this tree?â he asked as he tapped the tree next to them.
Vlad smiled that Dan seemed to be getting into the spirit enough that talking about a tree was an acceptable alternative. It also seemed to work because it completely distracted Dani who rushed over to examine the tree.
âNah. This one sheds too many needles,â she decided as she pulled a handful of needles off.
âYou canâtâevery tree will lose its needles if you pull on them like that!â Dan argued in exasperation.
âYeah, but this one lost more,â she countered. âSo there. Not a good tree.â She scampered off before Dan could get another argument in.
He clenched a fist and breathed out a long, slow breath. Vlad hiked an eyebrow in interest because it looked like some of those anger management techniques were actually working. Heâd have to thank Jazmine later. âSheâs being unreasonable.â
âSheâs just having fun,â Vlad sighed. âI promise, Iâll make her select one soon enough, just bear with her.â
âOh Iâm bearing with her alright,â Dan muttered through gritted teeth as he watched Dani dismiss another perfectly good tree.Â
While Dan might be suffering watching her traipse through the rows of pine trees, Vlad actually found the whole event quite enjoyable. The whimsy of watching Danielle play around amongst the trees and inspect each one filled him with a paternal glow. Watching a Christmas tradition unfold through the eyes of a child filled him with a happiness he couldnât really explain and renewed his Christmas spirit more than any other activity could. Now if only his other charge would find the tender happiness of the moment with them, then it could all be perfect. Alas, that seemed to be too much to ask for.
âIf none of these trees are right, then why canât we just get a plastic one? It would save us all a lot of time,â Dan pointed out.
âThe plastic ones just donât have the same feel to them,â Vlad explained as he stretched the limits of his very limited patience to stay civil. How he longed to turn around and brandish the âbecause I said soâ that all guardians use at some point, but he knew that would only end in conflict and would force Dan to pull away even further. But god would it be easier. âA real tree has a scent and a presence that the fake ones donât have. And the experience of selecting a tree is far more thrilling.â
âI canât say I agree with the âthrillingâ part of that statement,â Dan grumbled.
âBecause youâre not letting yourself. But selecting a tree for ChristmasâŚwhy itâs one of the few happy memories I have of Christmases past. My parents were usually too busy for their trophy child, but Christmas seemed to be the time when they remembered why they had a child in the first place. Every Christmas we would pick out a tree from some small lot like this one here. Mother would watch and smile as I picked out a tree. I could actually hold my fatherâs attention for a time. We had no distractions or anything else demanding their attention. It was us as a family picking out a Christmas tree.â
A soft smile settled on Vladâs face as he thought of those happy, nostalgic memories. He didnât have many happy memories of his childhood as they were mostly filled with loneliness and boredom, but the few he had of Christmas he held very dear to his heart. And being back amongst the trees, with the snow and the pine and the excited squeals of children pointing to trees brought him right back to the happiest of his memories.
Dani stopped her inspection of a treeâs branches, and when she turned to look at him, Vlad could see the sympathy creasing her slightly teary eyes. He wasnât really trying to get that reaction from her, but he wanted to share how much the nostalgia of this trip meant to him. She reached a comforting hand out towards him, but stopped when Danâs harsh voice cut through the silence left by Vladâs story.
âYou forget old man that I have those same memories too,â Dan growled with a slight edge to his voice. While Vlad clearly drew warm feelings from these memories, Danâs reaction gave him the distinct impression that he was not as pleased to be reliving those old memories. âI donât need the reminder. So I ask again why are we doing this? And I want a real answer this time.â
Vlad opened his mouth with a quick businessman answer full of bluster and smoke and mirrors, but faltered when he realized that this wasnât a business meeting. This wasnât some pitch that he needed to sell to a stranger whose feelings and opinions didnât matter. This wasnât some cut and dry business proposal that most people would forget about two days later. No, this was his ward and he owed him more than some superficial response. He deserved to hear the real reason, even if Vlad still didnât know what that real reason could be. How was he supposed to explain to the ghost who tore out his own feelings a decade ago that he did it because he yearned to give his wards a warm memory to hold on to in the cold and lonely months that seemed to come for everyone in their later years, like he had of his own Christmas traditions. He couldnât rationalize it or explain it in a logical way that would make sense to him, because all he had were feelings and a hope, and he could hardly find the words to explain that to himself, let alone to the other ghost.
Dani, however, seemed to have no problems putting that feeling into words. She stepped in between them and looked at them both with that infectious smile of hers. âBecause itâs what family does.â
A silence fell about them as the word âfamilyâ rang in their ears. Dan stared down at the snow-covered ground and refused to meet either of their eyes. He slid his foot in the snow just to make some kind of noise to fill the awkward silence. Vlad also shifted uncomfortably as he grabbed his other arm and ran his hand along his sleeve as he lost himself in thought.
Family. So Danielle somehow believed they were a family? Why was he so shocked to hear that? Heâd thought it earlier that night and even multiple times before that as he planned this out. This was the sort of activity a family did together. He wanted to share this with them because he saw them as family. It all made sense in his head, and yet for some reason the word never felt right when he rolled it around in his head. He always felt it wasnât quite right for what a family should be, but maybe that had been his problem. For Danielle to say it so plainlyâŚwell it made it all the more plain to him too. Maybe it wasnât the family everyone else had, but it was the family the three of them got, and didnât that make the word all the more meaningful? The fact that three outcasts who never really belonged to anyone had found each other (sometimes in very strange circumstances) and managed to make it work meant something to him, to Danielle, and hopefully to Dan based on his reaction.
Dani must have realized she said something poignant because she let the other two sit in their thoughts for a long, awkward moment before her eyes grew wide. She pointed into the distance as a huge grin spread across her face. âThatâs it!â she cried out before she shot off down the row to the tree that caught her eye.
Dan glanced up from the ground and took a step forward to follow after her, but Vlad held a hand out to gently stop him. He knew Dan didnât like being touched and he was putting his own safety in danger by doing so, but he had a feeling he would allow it this time. âWait. You want to know why Iâm doing this?â he asked, which turned Danâs warning glare into a look of curiosity. âIâm doing it for her.âÂ
Vlad gestured towards Dani who jumped about her newly selected tree with excited hands clasped together. âMaybe you donât care anymore, or maybe even canât care anymore, and thatâs fine. Maybe you donât think weâre a family, and thatâs fine too. But she does. And she has known very few Christmases since sheâŚwell since I brought her into this life. I wasnât ready to make them good Christmases beforeâŚbut I am now. And I want her to have a good memory of this, like we did.â
He gave Dan one last little nod before he met up with Dani at her chosen tree. Dan fell silent and stayed behind, but Vlad didnât mind. Giving him a chance to think and ponder those thoughts seemed like it would be helpful in the long run. âWell now, letâs see this tree.â Like many of the others theyâd pointed out, the tree had a good wide and full silhouette and was tall enough to fit the ceiling of its destined room. He nodded his head in approval as he circled the tree and studied it from all angles, but his inspection unfortunately uncovered a gap in the tree. And not just a gap, but it appeared all the branches below that gap seemed to be drooping, like something heavy had pulled them down. He grabbed those branches and tried to move them up to see if they were broken, but the branches still remained firm. So they were attached securely to the tree but had just been shaped improperly.
Vlad sighed as he released the branch and dusted his hands off on his jacket. âIâm sorry to tell you this Danielle, but your tree has some drooping branches on this side.â She would be crushed to hear the tree that captured her heart had such a noticeable imperfection.
âI know,â she said simply. âThatâs why itâs perfect.â
â...Iâm not following,â Vlad admitted. Sheâd dismissed so many other trees for the tiniest of details (some of which she made up) so how could she so easily ignore this one?
âBecause itâs not made perfect. Itâs not the perfect example of a tree, and maybe itâs not exactly what you expect or want when you think about a tree, but itâs still good. Itâll still make a good tree,â she pointed out as she held one of the branches and ran her gloved fingers over the pine needles. âAnd you can love the tree not just in spite of its flaws, but because of its flaws.â
Vlad quickly realized this had become far larger than just picking out a tree. Somehow she had turned this into a metaphor for herself. She wanted a tree that had its flaws just as she had, and knowing that tree could still be chosen and loved and desired was important to her. He realized he had caused that insecurity too. By chasing after a âbetterâ clone, a clone more like Daniel, he had dismissed his other creations as failures without caring about how that made them feel. He had a lot to atone for, more than what he could do with a Christmas tradition, but heâd start that atonement by showing her that yes, she could still be chosen and loved because of who she was.
âWell, then it sounds like itâs the perfect tree for us,â Vlad agreed with a smile as he placed a hand on her shoulder. A slightly broken tree for the slightly broken family. It felt right.
Dani squealed in excitement and jumped up and down in place. âYay! I canât wait to put all kinds of garland and ornaments and lights and - ooh tinsel! We can put tinsel on it too!â
Vlad chuckled as he shook his head slightly. Tinsel sounded like a horribly messy thing, but if tinsel brought her some holiday cheer and joy, then heâd let her throw tinsel all over that tree. âWhatever youâd like. Now, letâs take this tree number to theââ
âOh, sorry pal,â a voice spoke up from behind them. Vlad turned to see a middle-aged couple walk over to them. The bearded man gestured towards the tree. âWe already paid for that one.â
âWhat?â Dani asked as she turned her wide, sad eyes onto Vlad, as if pleading for a different answer.
âFor this tree?â Vlad asked in confirmation as he placed his hands on the branches of the tree.
âYup, that exact tree. Number 251. Best bang for its buck on the whole lot. Managed to get a discount on account of the defect,â he crowed proudly.
âButâŚbutâŚâ Dani stammered as she looked back at her prized tree. âBut I spent so long looking for this oneâŚâ
Vlad felt a frustration rise up within him, but he tamped it down as he put on his best businessman face. He didnât need to let his temper get out of control here. He had to remind himself that this couple didnât understand or know how much this tree meant to her, but surely they could be persuaded. And if the joy of a child couldnât sway them, then he was sure money could.
âAny way I could persuade you to pick a different tree?â he cajoled as he took a step closer. âPay the cost of the difference to another tree perhaps? My dauâyoung Danielle here, she really has her heart set on this tree.â
âItâs perfect,â she pouted as she held onto one of its branches like a young child held the hand of a beloved stuffed animal.
The couple looked between each other for a moment, but when he met Vladâs gaze again he shook his head. âSorry, but we worked hard for the deal we got for this tree, and as a point of pride weâd like to take it home.â
âExtra money then,â Vlad pressed. âThe difference in price for another tree plus an extra hundred to spend on decorations or whatever youâd like.â
The man shook his head again. âSorry pal, but weâd like this tree, and we did find it first.â
Vlad clenched a fist as his ectoplasm boiled in rage. Really they were just being unreasonable. The tree, while perfect for them, could not possibly be worth this much to the other couple. It seemed like the more he argued for it, the more value they found in their initial purchase. He normally believed everyone had a tipping point, but he feared that these individuals were too stubborn for their own good. Perhaps he could arrange a littleâŚsituation on the road, where the tree mysteriously fell through their car on the way home. Heâd tried to handle this nicely, but he wasnât above some ghostly trickery to get that tree. Yes, that could work. He would just need a duplicate to follow them and thenâ
âHe made you a reasonable offer,â Dan growled out from behind them. Vlad turned to see Dan practically vibrating in his anger, like his skin could barely hold the rage building up inside him. His clenched fists shook from the effort it took to keep them at his side.
âNow Dan, we donât need toââ Vlad tried to intervene, but Dan cut him short with a steely glare.
âIâm not talking to you, old man. Iâm talking to these two,â he snarled as he focused his attention on the pig-headed couple as he took slow, controlled steps towards them, like a careful predator stalking his prey. âHe made you a reasonable offer and you said no because of what? Your pride? So you can have a trophy and congratulate yourselves on how you got such a good deal at the expense of the dreams of a child? Youâre pathetic.â
The man bristled and stepped in front of his wife. âWe saw it first. We already paid for it. That means itâs ours.â
âOh no it isnât. No, this tree is ours now. You want to take this tree from her?â he asked slowly as he gestured towards Dani. âOn her first real Christmas? Her first Christmas with her family? NoâŚno youâre not going anywhere near this tree. Iâll make sure of that,â he promised as a sinister red light flared in his eyes.
âBrad,â his wife squeaked up from the back, but he shook his head and took a brave (and foolish) step forward. He took a moment to size the teenager up with his dark jacket and thick black boots. Vlad realized that the man probably thought he had this âteenage punkâ all figured out - oh how wrong he would be.
âYou think some teenager with a mouth will stop me?â Brad asked as he puffed up his chest with fake confidence. âIâll call the cops and shut down your tough guy act.â
âThe cops wonât save you from what I have in store,â Dan threatened as his eyes glowed a uniform red. A white ring of light formed around his waist, and as it split apart it revealed the massive, muscled form of Dan Phantom. Brad took a terrified step back on shaking legs as Dan advanced on him, towering over him. He grabbed the manâs shirt in his fist and easily suspended him in the air. The man grasped at the hand around his shirt and kicked his legs as he begged for mercy, but it only made Danâs malicious smile grow wider.Â
He flew the pleading man up into the air, higher and higher before he simply released his hold on the man and dropped him. He screamed as he plummeted quickly to the earth, but Dan swooped down to grab him again. He held him in the air and grinned at his screams for mercy. âIf you think that was bad, you should see what else I have in store for you,â Dan threatened as he held up a fist wreathed with green ectoplasmic flame.
âOh butter biscuits, weâd been doing so well for a public outing,â Vlad sighed from down on the ground. As much as he felt great pleasure (and maybe pride?) upon hearing the unreasonable man squeal in terror and fright, he didnât actually want the trouble of having Dan hurt the man. As much as he wished for the man to suffer pain for his stubborn attitude and refusal to help secure Daniâs dream tree, as a guardian he couldnât actually let Dan hurt the man.
âAre you going to stop him?â Dani asked with a slight tremble in her voice. She must still remember the last time he had to stop Dan and took quite a beating in the process.
âEventually,â Vlad sighed as he kept his eyes focused closely on Dan. âIf he does anything thatâs actually harmful I will of course rush in.â For now though, it seemed like Dan found satisfaction enough in terrifying the man, and judging by Bradâs high pitched squeals of âYou can have the tree! You can have the tree!â he had a feeling the tactic worked.
âBut first, let us rescue that tree, hmm?â Vlad suggested as he smiled down at his young charge.
Daniâs smile lit up her face as she reached over to give Vlad a hug from the side. He stiffened slightly in surprise only because he didnât expect such a physically affectionate reaction, but it melted his heart all the same in a way heâd never felt before. He placed a hand on her back and gave it a comforting pat.
He looked back over at Dan who had moved on to threatening the man by slowly sinking him intangibly into the ground and he noticed the gleeful yet sinister smile on his face. Dan reacted so strongly to the potential for Danielleâs dream to be dashed, and he had even used the word family in his threats. He admitted they were a family.Â
Somehow, in their own strange way, this trip had brought them closer as a unit andâŚyes as a family. This off-the-cuff idea that he stitched together with a feeling and a hope had actually proven to be a happy outing that he knew generated some formative memories for all involved. Maybe he had done it. Maybe he had created a new Christmas tradition for all of them. For his family.Â
Their own family tradition.
Notes: I just wanted to make a note that I don't actually have anything against plastic trees. I myself have 3 plastic trees and have never had a live tree (I'm too paranoid about the fire risks). So that was all Vlad. But I do have a romanticized idea of what selecting a live tree would be like!
Also @northerngrail I hope you noticed the little nod to one of your other prompts in there!
This is also a first for me on a lot of levels. First time including Dani in a story. First time writing from Vlad's POV. First time writing anything post-AGIT. So hopefully I did it all justice!
I hope you enjoyed your gif!

Back at it again with my Danny is mom coded auâs, but this time itâs because of Clockwork that he suddenly has a whole ass teenage kid.
Clockwork had been bored or maybe he was playing a game against an opponent, or even lost a bet, whatever it was, he stepped in right as Jason was searching for his biological mother.
The DNA that would have registered itself as one Sheila Haywood, confirming Jasonâs mother, glitched a terrible green across the screens of the batcomputer.
In those few moments of chaos Jasonâs heart beat rapidly as he tried to figure out why the computer wasnât working, wondering if his only chance to find his mom â his blood mom â would never find success.
Then as suddenly as things went wrong the DNA settled and pinged.
Jason watched, his chest tight, as one Danny C. Works, formerly Danny Fenton appeared onto the big screen.
Danny looked a lot like Jason, short cut black hair more straight than the subtle curls of Jasonâs own; deep blue eyes, tired in a way that spoke of long days and nights, but with a warm happiness that made the familiar smile â the one Jason would see on himself every time he looked into the mirror â even more striking.
Jason didnât linger too long on the male identifying gender, nor the fact his mom leaned more towards a masculine name or clothing.
There were plenty of male to female, and female to male leaning individuals that lived in Crime Alley. He had seen it enough to not even bat an eye at it, even now. After all, in Gotham you minded your business least you find yourself in business you canât leave.
On a different monitor information of Danny C. Works piled for Jason to quickly browse through.
Danny was a senior engineer, no intimate relationships, and with no close connections to family outside of the tentative calls from Jasmine Fenton.
Danny was estranged from Jack and Madeline Fenton, a falling out that had occurred just a little before Dannyâs high school graduation. If Jason calculated it correctly that would have been â around the season Jason himself would have been born.
Okay, so no grandparents then but I might have a maybe aunt. Jason scrolled further and stilled.
Twin toddlers: Dante and Danielle Works.
Jason had baby siblings.
He doesnât let the sting of younger siblings consume him, doesnât allow the whispering thoughts of why he had been given up when his younger siblings had been kept and so very obviously loved.
Jason took deep breathes, he didnât have time to linger here. He had a family to get to, and a family he would get to.
It took almost all night to reach, the starlight night sky slowly and surely fading into cloudy wine as the sun rose, but Jason made it.
And when the door opened to his hesitant but firm knock, Jason was unable to speak. His mom â dad, maybe? Did they want to be mom or dad? â stood in the doorway, brows furrowed in confusion.
It was when Danny spoke his vigilante name did Jason only just realize that he was still dressed to the nineâs in his Robin costume.

Vlad goes slowly insane in space after Phantom Planet. He's finally snapped and is completely willing to kill both Jack and Maddie to get Danny where he wants him. He doesn't stay in space, eventually returning to the Zone and setting up shop in another dimension (DC Bludhaven; becoming a shady businessman once again) while keeping an eye on Danny.
Danny is having a great time. His family accepts him, he's a known hero, he's almost an adult. Sure, Dani destablized, but with his parents help he managed to save her! ...As a toddler. Then Clockwork dropped a deaged evil future self (as a baby) for him to raise. So it's not all great.
Then Vlad attacks. Everyone who Danny knows dies except for little Dani and Dan, and Vlad kidnaps him to a new dimension, where no one can help him. I can see Vlad not really recognizing the members of this new dimension as real and therefore, not a real threat. Danny is trapped in the penthouse bc of a ghost shield specific to his ecto-signature and forced to play house with an extremely unstable vlad who's willing to threaten the babies in order to force him to comply.
Then Vlad goes missing and Dick Grayson is assigned to the case

Uncle Vlad
So! Vlad Masters, Maddie Walker, and Jack Fenton were a group of friends that studied together at Gotham University. They all studied the Effects of Ectoplasm of the world around them, from how it affected Space-time to how it affected the Flora of the world.
But they had another friend, one who was interested on how Ectoplasm affected Human Beings before they died, rather than after. He was a Med Student, and he wanted to see if there were any Medicinal applications to Ectoplasm.
His name was Thomas Wayne.
Thomas was actually great friends with the Trio, and eventually they became a Quartet. He was just as crazy as them, although he hid it better, and he loved to get into stupid shenanigans with them.
Unfortunately that all came to an end when Vlad got was put in the Hospital by a Lab Accident. He refused to see any of them, but Thomas managed to convince him to let him study how the Ectoplasm was affecting his Body to hopefully find a Cure. He was the most skilled Ecto-Biologist they had after all.
Thomas never managed to find a Cure, but he did manage to maintain his friendship with Vlad, even after Jack and Maddie got married and moved away to Illinois. He felt bad that their friend group fell apart like that, but with all their lives changing it was inevitable. Thomas himself was planning on proposing to his girlfriend Martha soon.
When Vlad moved away to Wisconsin after recovering from his Accident, he stayed in contact with Thomas as thanks for all the help he gave in trying to find a Cure. Unlike Jack and Maddie who moved away without even trying to say goodbye, Thomas stuck around and stayed his friend.
He even became the Godfather to his son, Bruce. He later got a Letter from Jack and Maddie naming him the Godfather of their own son, Daniel, but he didn't really care as much. Bruce was an adorable little boy, and incredibly intelligent, he got that from his Father obviously.
Or course, then That Day happened. Thomas and his wife were Shot by a mugger and poor Bruce was left without his parents. Vlad tried to take him in, but was rejected on the grounds that he was still "Too frail to get out of his House".
He stayed in Contact with Bruce, but it became harder as time went on. From both the revelation that Daniel Fenton was a Halfa like him, and the fact that Bruce was traveling so much, he didn't have much of a chance to contact him. He needed to split his attention, and Daniel took a lot more than expected.
He hoped Bruce would stay a good kid, Daniel gave him too many headaches already.
...
A few years later, Bruce Wayne became the Batman.

Badger the Thief
Danny x Cass
Bruce x Selina
It all started as Vlad, out of spite, named Danny as he stole something from him:" The Badger Thief!"
As his parents found out, he was a "thief." The first thing was that they were proud that he was a villain, just like they were before they retired.
And he got a suit to go and have fun... Well, they are the Fenton family.
And if his parents don't get angry! Well, he wanted that moonstone he saw in the museum.
It had been a matter of time before he met the heroes of the world.
And he got his own animal-themed hero in Black Bat, who tries to capture him all the time.
Bruce had a talk with his daughter about dating. And that led once again to him and Catwoman.
Cass:" At least mine steals only space-related stuff!"
Bruce:" He stole the GLOBE ON THE DAILY PLANET!"
Cass:" Not his fault. That they use a "Globe"!! "

DPxDC Vlad. Just... Vlad.
I like writing Vlad as a bad guy - he is convenient when evil. Need an antagonist? Here's a solid choice. I also like writing Vlad as redeemed - he has the potential to be good and nice and even caring. He's not an evil by core character, he's just in great need of therapy.
But my absolute favorite way of writing Vlad is the slightly condescending absent parent who doesn't like kids but still cares about them.
He won't do great with actual babies, yes, he is not sweet, he doesn't smile a lot, and he views kids as nuisances most of the time. But at the same time, he doesn't brush them off when they come to him. Jazz wants to go to an Ivy League college? Yeah, okay, he'll pay for it no questions asked. Because student loans are a bitch and Jazz is smart and she is his now. They don't get along, they barely talk, but she is his. Danny is mad at something about Infinite Realms business and snaps at him for no reason? Vlad is never one to back down from a fight, and by the end of it Danny is not so fuming anymore, and Vlad got to test his new ectoblast. Dani is back from her travels and decides to unload all her new bizarre stories on him? He is not interested, but he'll listen because otherwise she is going to start pouting and roll her eyes, and he doesn't want to deal with that. Dan asks if he could go hunt some ghost vultures for sport on his grounds? Danny might get mad later, but that's none of Vlad's concerns, and, besides, those vultures were starting to get annoying lately.
He's just... not a good parent and not a good person. He is mostly decent.
But the thing is, all the ex-Fenton kids don't need a good parent in terms of 'friendly, sweet and nice', they've had Jack and Maddie, they know the friendliness doesn't really mean shit. What they need is an adult that will back them up with no reprimand and then fuck off right after.
And Vlad is perfect in that sense.
What's funny about this is that when Phantoms/Masters meet Waynes/Bats, the latter ones are a bit thrown off by this dynamic. Like, what do you mean your adoptive father is your former arch-nemesis? What do you mean he didn't really stop doing his evil schemes? Surely he can't be good! Meanwhile, Danny just shrugs.
On the other hand, what do you mean your father won't allow you to do what you want? What do you mean he acts on your behalf? Does he not trust you with your own decisions? And Batkids are just 'he means well'. Yeah, well, Vlad also means well (most times), but he doesn't ground anyone? If Bruce means well, then why do you all act like you're annoyed with him?..

I've been thinking about Talia lately and how Batman kept trying to get her to change her ways with killing and trying to apply his moral code onto her.
(ps idk if this is in any way canon I do know that it is something I've seen around a couple times)
So in light of that I thought why not give Talia a Loving relationship with people that won't discourage her own morals and beliefs while she also encourages theirs!
And I present Maddie and Jack as her new loving partners ( I think I've seen this ship go around before but I'm not exactly positive where), they have been dating casually for awhile before she got introduced to the Fenton kids (this would happen sometime after Damian goes to Bruce's)(she probably misses Damian)(not that she replaced him just misses having him around)
Danny being around 12 and Jazz being 14 finally got introduced to their parents partner and sure at first they were hesitant, but after a while they loved hanging out with her. With Danny talking about the stars with her and Talia encouraging Jazz's interest in psychology, id imagine they love watching Maddie and Talia have practice duels while they also help train them if they want too.
When Danny becomes a Halfa Talia most likely immediately knows and helps him when she's around and probably slowly helping Maddie and Jack believe ghosts are sentient beings to help with Danny trying to open up about himself.
I also %100 believe that when Vlad comes around again Talia absolutely hates his guts, 1.) for trying to steal Maddie and 2.) for trying to kill Jack (those are her partners back off Vlad!)

( REUPLOAD I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED IT im so sorry )
You're someone who's held great resentment for your godfather.
For your first meeting, for his ego, for his murderous intent towards your father.
For his failure to provide comfort or understanding when your parents refused you as a son, when your friends have left you as a corpse.
You suffer through long years, sticking with him through thick and thin, because heâs the only one like you, the only other Death refused to take.
( The daughter he made, the cousin you mourned, Dani, is gone. She will not return to either of you. It is always his fault. )
Because heâs all you have left. The only one who wouldn't refuse you.
He moves you to a city that matches your dreary state. Vigilantes take residence, closing in on crime. Closing in on your godfather.
Vlad leaves. He doesnât take you with him.
He leaves you his wealth, a place in a school that makes you miss home, and an order to never speak to the ones who made him runâ the Waynes.
He doesnât return. Never properly. You make due with phone calls and brief visits every now and then. You donât mind, you preferred this more than his haphazard attempts at providing companionship when it was too late.
Your schoolmates does not like you. That is okay, even if it leaves you longing for friends.
( Sam and Tucker are in Amity and will stay there until they die. They would never come and visit a corpse like you. Not when you desecrate their friend's body, parading it around, like you're him. They know who you really are. They've always known, they just couldn't see sense before. )
But you find someone who could be one.
He is prickly, rude, disliked less, but disliked nonetheless. But he is the only other person who does not care about your worn out shoes, for your scars, your clammy skin, all the things that made your parents refuse you as a son, as sentientâ or about you coming in the middle of the school year.
You care not about his attitude, desperation clawing at your mind for any form of socialization not from Vlad or who he calls company.
You make quick work of befriending him, a shared rivalry for an annoying schoolmate pulling you close together.
You learn his interests, his pets, his family. You know his name but do not ask for it. Willful ignorance could be considered bliss. Just for a moment.
He lets you stay at his house for a night, though his siblings push the matter more enthusiastically. You do not see his father.
(Â âHeâs on a business trip.â Daniel blinks, looking up at his friend.
âWho?â he asks, despite knowing thereâs only one person that Damian could be referring to.
Damian tsked automatically, âMy father, you imbecile. He will return in two weeks notice.â
Daniel thinks of his godfather, of his various excuses over the years to many people, including him. But instead of telling Damian the likely truth, that his father wonât return, never like how his best friend wants him too, an âOkayâ comes out in place of it.
Let him bask in ignorance, Daniel tells himself, Let your friend have this. )
His father comes back. You donât call Vlad when he forgets you. For all he wanted you as a son, now he never tries to treat you as such.
You continue the cycle of avoiding an empty house, of sleep-overs, of waiting for something to happen.
And something does. Your godfather comes back. He lies to you that he wonât leave again. He says that he will stay longer, that the family who tried to run him out wonât succeed again.
You do not think of your best friend. Why would he even care?
Your godfather treats you like he had before, when you still had your friends, your home. Like you are a misbehaving child, and him, the tired parent.
( Shouts of an argument ring from an dead manor, before being shut out to the upstairs.
Daniel slammed the door, not caring if Vlad had heard it or not. Ancients, he'd forgotten how much of an utter fruit-loop Vlad was. He gritted his teeth, rubbing the bruise left on his wrist by the man.
Why'd he expect anything different? Vlad was just going to be his usual nutty self, and go back to treating him like he was still some misguided kid, that he would just come around to playing nice with Vlad.
The wood of the door was smooth, most likely sanded down from any splinters by the past families who lived here. Daniel moved his fingers along the grooves, faintly remembering how he had done this before, when he was better. He bit his tongue, ignoring the bitter taste of ectoplasm it brought forth.
He hadn't thought of who he was before since he'd ran. He hadn't been this angry at Vlad since he ran. He hadn't felt so like himself after he ran.
Daniel would be lying if that thought didn't make him feel just a little bit better.
He let his head fall into his knees, back leaning against the wooden door, limbs sagging. He did not cry, because the Danny from the empty home did not do that. )
It irks you, but not like before. Maybe you were doing something right if heâs treating you like this now, treating you normally. Maybe youâre back to who you were before, before the rejection scarred you.
Damian notices the change in your personality, as you notice his change in costume. He is on the rooftops, in the streets, cloaked in muted colors, not unlike your own old costume, and his family knows your godfather is back.
When you come back to school after a week of Vlad trying to bond with you without success, Damian doesnât say a word about your godfather.
You donât either. What even is there to say?
âOh, I know that you are investigating my godfather, and that youâre a vigilante, surprise!â
You would have been killed ages ago if that was your response.
Your friend does not invite you over anymore. You know why, understand why but it still stabs your core, in the way a butter knife does to wood. Dents it but does not cut.
You repeat the loop of boring conversation, of stilted companionship. You grow tired of it, as you always do.
Vlad's signature is easy to forge. You get to skip your classes under the guise of it being a family emergency.
( Damian is near the gate when he gets off the bus. Daniel's ratty sneakers are hitting the ground, as he walks over to him.
The weight of his backpack feels heavy, the evidence that Daniel had stuffed inside not helping his back. Damian twirls around at his steps, a scowl already on his lips.
Daniel smiles back, readjusts the straps on his shoulders. He whispers to Damian, uncaring of the fight currently breaking out in the front, the fight that Damian is watching, "I'm getting out of school today, wanna come with?"
His friend tears his eyes away from the brawl, looking intrigued at Daniel's offer.
Damian considers the chance. The thought of having to sit through another day of school with only Jon for mild company sickens him.
"I suppose I can, though if this is a trap Masters, then let it be known thatâ"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it, you in still?" Daniel flashes his (only) friend a cheesy grin, ignoring Damian's eye-roll at his theatrics.
"..Yes."
-
The route to the local park is quick, though slowed by the need to be away from the public's eyes, lest they be caught right away in their venture.
Daniel gasps in a breath, ancients, did he need to jog way more. Damian easily strides beside him, the only sign that he was showing off being the smug gleam in his green eyes. Bastard.
The papers, the records, the flash-drive, all weigh down his back. Vlad has definitely noticed them missing, and he most definitely knows who took them.
But Daniel didn't care, not right now, because right now, he was spending time with his bestest friend in the whole wide world, and he'll deal with Vlad later. )
You drag Damian over to a secluded bench, taking no mind to the mutations Poison Ivy has given the plants near. The backpack is emptied, and you guide your only friend to the path that leads to Vlad's destruction.
The dread fades away, the high of adrenaline taking its place, at the crimes left behind in pieces, put back together in a backpack, and let loose into the hands of your only friend.
It feels good, like somethingâs been taken off your shoulders. You know that Vlad has anticipated you telling someone about what heâs done. Heâs still not leaving.
Your high is running down, as you start to beg Damian not to arrest him, lying to your only friend that Vlad is a better man, and doesn't deserve to rot in a cell. You know that when you take a separate route to your homes, that heâll tell anyway.
You canât bring yourself to care. Vladâll just weasel out of it, as he always does.
He knows what you did, doesnât bring it up, with the only sign being a watchful eye whenever youâre back in his grasp.
You get invited to a gala by your friend. You accept, uncaring of Vlad's reaction.
Your friend gets held ransom. No oneâs worried, no one feels anything but annoyance. You stay away, not wanting to feel your core straining to help, to protect.
The Bats swoop in to help. You ignore the envy at their luck at having a team of other heroes to depend on.
( Your friend ) The Waynes send people after your godfather. He tries to bribe his way out of the charges, out of the jail cell that cannot hold him. They leave with him in tow.
You start staying overnight at your friendâs house even more. Damian doesnât say a word about it.
His father does. His siblings do.
They talk about adopting you, they fight about Vlad, about what they are meant to do with your godfather, and what to do with poor old Danny. You donât listen in much. They remind you of your parents, just a little bit. It hurts.
Vlad is let go. False charges, apparently. You know he just bribed the judge and juries.
He wants to talk to you, intent on having a conversation that lasts more than five minutes without shouting and tears ending it.
I'm sorry for not being there, please, give me forgiveness, are the only things you remember from the conversation. You do not give him what he wants, but the conversation doesn't end in slammed doors and withheld tears.
You sleep under his roof for the first time in weeks, the most civil conversation youâve ever been with him looping in your mind. You even wonder if heâll let you go to your friendâs birthday party.
You donât sleep at your friendâs house as much. Thereâs not much need to anymore.
You wake up one night, to hear the sounds of ectoblasts and footsteps. They are on the roof, and you know what theyâre here for.
You go ghost, going up the roof, watching invisibly as Plasmius shoots at the vigilantes who yell about something. You stay like that for a moment. You almost decide to let him go.
He's the only one you have left, to leave him, to abandon him, is to leave the last person in your corner. That thought is the only reason why you lift your thermos up, capturing Vlad in one fell swoop, before he leaves too.
The vigilantes are not pleased, as the Bat barks out orders to find you. You can imagine Vlad is the same, fuming at your disrespect inside the can.
With Vlad in your thermos, the Bats on your tail, there is no hope in your mind of getting out of Gotham with everything you need.
Oh Danny, what are you going to do?
