Timoteo keep pressing again and again, sending his men to trash her room, and attempted to invade her library and study. At this point, as much as she hated it, Yuka had to start to killing them.

She is more skilled, more influent, more famous, have stronger Sky and Flames, from Primo's line no less. Vongola is getting back to its roots it seens. Ricardo's line would perish with the worst boss of Vongola's history, she would trash his reputation for generations.

Yuka needs to clean house and reform the Famiglia they shoved her into, made it hers in a way she would never feel unsafe or ignored, full of people that would listen and obey her. The Kingsguard was the beginning, the fake Guardians need a little...discipline and be way from Reborn for them to understand how much they fucked up

She refused to let let this pathetic hellhole of a Famiglia hurt anyone else like they DID TO HER

They wanted to 'let the past be past' and 'forgive and forget' while Yuka is here all but yelling at Timoteo and Iemitsu for begin ABUSIVE PARENTS

My 2 cents on the Politics in the US right now:

Shitty af options is the understatement of the century but one of them just got granted an insane amount of power and the only thing people are freaking out over is what the OTHER guy could do with that power next year, so it seems pretty simple who to vote for imo. The curruption in the Supreme Court is the biggest enemy, and there's only one way to try and fix it and protect human rights

I have been reading the manhua "the rogue prince is secretly an omega" and i am really enjoying the story so far. I like the mais cast and the plot is pretty interesting and got me invested on what is going to happen.

But i can't get over a few missed opportunities that would have made the story go from good the exelent.

On the first few chapters i thought the empress would get some sort of development or would at least be more fleshed out. I really really liked that she has a calculating and scheeming personality and that this played directly on the narrative relating to her situation with her husband and subsequently with her son.

I mean it's just obvious that someone who grew up watching the curruption of the nobility wield actually good resultus for other nobles (be it rising on the social hierarchy, marrying into richness, etc etc.). Besides, on that context no marriege was made for the sake of love, she is pragmatic and grounded on reality when she scheemes to mary into royalty and she succeedes!!

I think this goes a long way to prove that she is smart and can use her resources to her advantage even when a literal prince did not want to marry her. All the while being an omega, so like there is that disadvantage as well.

But i really think they could have upped the game in regards to her hiding that etienne is an omega. The story plays it like this is her hunger for power and this is the only way she knows how to controll people and that is fine and good, but my vision is:

Imagine if she was tired of all of the scheemes of the court, the gossips, the political façades and most importantly tired of her own fate married to a man who failed to reach the societal standard (which was relevant to her when she chose to marry him) who does not love her and niether does she love him. I keep thinking what if her story was one of regret, if only she was not an omega, if only society could have acepted her as the head of her family she would not have to be in this eternal power struggle to mantain herself and her position on the court.

So she chooses to give her son a different life, somethibg she thinks she would have wanted in his place. A chance to be an emperror and wield all the power even while being an omega. Of course, she would have to keep on scheeming and making secret plots to get him there, and they would have to hide the fact that he was born an omega.

But she has already moved so many plots in her life, so what if she is tired? It is for a better future, it is for her son to have a chance she did not. And she embraces that choice.

I think it would still be very ok for her to be a domineering character who rages at others, a perfectionist and a very controling person because this is what her reality shaped her into beeing. She has to be in control, because her son is still too young to make choices for himself. She has to be in control because this is the final stretch, look at how much they have already achieved. At how loong they have already fooled the world. Etienne can not loose his rightfull place on the throne, just because her husband is doting on a random person (richar).

I trully think that if they had went with this motivation she would still be able to move the plot in a very very similar manner, and they wouldn't even have to change her personality at all.

She would just be a much more compelling character and we would be able to relate to her trying to live another life trough her son and falling into the same scheemes and bad habits she grew to hate because this is the only path she knows. All the while she could be geniunely believe that she is doing all of this just to give her son a better life.

Honestly i can never get over how much of a lost opportunity this is.

I mean there is still chance, but i think it's very unlikely at this point.

They just wrote her to be a villain and they didn't care to give her any depth. Even while all of this was right there, didnt even have to think too much.

Also i hate that on the most recent chapters the emperor is like helping Etienne??? And everyone is like, ok i forgive your years of neglect bc yeah the empress is really fucked up and uuuuuuhhhhh............. bc you seem to care abt etienne now? Just because richard used the talk no jutsu.

Dont even get me started on how they could have made the emperor story more compeling.

This two books are very similar: both the protagonists, Artemisia in Vespertine and Nona in The Book of Ancestor, are orphans raised in a female-dominated holy place, trained in their ways. Both became possessed by devious spirits at some point of the story and both are reluctantly call to save the day. Both the characters are highly influenced by the traumas they endured (physically and psychologically) but while Artemisia — at the beginning of the book — is more isolated and lacks of friends, Nona, despite her more feral nature, is more easily going with people who became loyal friends to her. Both in Vespertine and Book Of Ancestor Trilogy there's a great curruption in the secular and religious hierarchies, but while in Vespertine those religious authorities are victims in their own way, in Book Of Ancestor the corrupted spiritual leaders are more mundane and their action are plotted by the political plans and ambitions of the royal family members.

The main difference is that Artemisia is not a warrior herself: when the convent is attacked by possessed soldiers (Revenants), she takes up a reliquary kept by an elderly nun and, thanks to the spirit that resided there, she runs into the fight, saving the day. Afterward, she is arrested by a priest — probably a future love interest — in conflict with himself and his religious beliefs.

There are a handful of supporting characters with their own special traits: a soldier who experienced a similar trauma to what Artemisia went through as a kid, whom she's able to connect with and help; a fellow nun from the convent who is very different from Artemisia (I appreciated their enemies-to-friends relationship, and her cleverness); and a grouchy but powerful elder who you can't help but adore (which is very similar to the cunning Abbess who took Nona under her care) .

The Revenant is an interesting character, who is supposed to be evil, and it is in some ways, but it’s also caring: it's the revenant that taught Artemisia to take care of herself, to consider herself worthy of being cared for.

Artemisia isn't as kickass as Nona ––many of the badass moments were due to the revenant controlling her––but she has her strengths. I appreciated that she grew to trust and care for the revenant despite how she was raised, and that she was able to push out of her comfort zone at times. It's nice to see how people in similar situations can turn out differently based on their individual experiences.

Book of the Ancestor, on the other hand, follows the growth of young Nona Grey, adopted into a convent of nuns known for their martial and magical skills. Nona and her friends must learn how to utilize the magic of their world to hopefully save their empire. Nona’s story, as she taps into her own potential and makes peace with herself — and the violence within her — is well-written and the self-immersion in her thoughts is cathartic and immediate.

The world of Book of the Ancestor deserves special attention. It is, in my reading, wholly unique. Giant ice sheets are slowly covering the world, squeezing nearly the entire population of the world into a narrow strip of land. It's a fascinating concept and becomes a major part of the series.

Overall, I enjoyed the series. It's fast-paced with characters that I came to enjoy (more on that in a moment). The books have a fun magic system that leads to excellent pay-offs in each of the books, and Lawrence plays with time, too, keeping the tension high throughout the stories.

I'm not a huge fan of magical academy tropes, which are very prevalent in Book Of The Ancestor (like the first book of the The Poppy War Series by R. F. Kuang). There are occasional moments of familiar tropes (there is a brief period where the book seems like it is aping the story of the first Harry Potter book beat for beat; luckily, that quickly fades out), but in the end, Nona and her friends more than turn this into their own story…helped by the fact that this most definitely isn’t a Chosen One story. Indeed, within the first few chapters, it’s revealed that the Chosen One prophecy of this world is hokum designed to distract people – and it’s that sort of decision that makes Book Of Ancestor a great trilogy.

In Book Of Ancestor, magic and supernatural abilities are more common and accepted, while in Vespertine is more marginal, at the point that only elderly nuns have a deep knowledge of the precious powers of the reliquary that they kept.

Nona Grey is also very similar to Rin from The Poppy War Series by R. F. Kuang: high skilled warriors, dominated by their fury, but loyal to their friends, used as weapons by powerful authorities. Even if Rin, at the end, falls victim of her rage and is more eager to be manipulated than Nona, who seems to be unaware of the deeper meaning of her own battles all the time and just follows the Abbess' indications.

And also the detailed distinction made by Lawrence of the four tribes and their powers reminds me of the one created by Susan Dennard in her Witchlands saga, in which every nation has their own elemental-related talents.

The arrow flew from my bow, quickly and silently making contact with the target, killing the deer instantly. Before the creature had even hit the ground, the Queen’s Bandits had pounced, knives out to cut dinner down to smaller pieces.

“That was a good kill, Rosabella!” Thor was quick to lavishly praise me, a hint of jealously shining in his eyes; his father had been one of the village hunters before he died three years previously due to bandits.

I leaned my bow onto the toe as my boot as I leaned forward, watching my little band of misfits hard at work. For the millionth time, I cursed King Joseph, if he could even be called a king; he had sworn to care for his people, but had neglected my small village by allowing bandits to invade us nearly every other week.

I ducked my head to pick at my threadbare blouse, all but see through due to one too many washings. My boots were no better- practically falling apart, with duct tape wrapped around the ankles and heels, making the sad looking footwear wearable- for the moment being.

I glanced around the dense trees nervously; even though I knew that the eight of us could take down bandits, should they dare to make an appearance, I was still wary out in these dangerous woods.

“Victor, do you think this will be enough for dinner, or should we continue hunting?” I asked quietly, speaking for the first time that day.

The red haired man quickly took inventory of the meat, skins, bones and organs, all which were tucked in heavy duty leather bags to make transportation easier on us all.

“I would get at least one more kill,” he answered with a simple shrug, his voice soft as well, waiting for me to make the call.

I nodded silently before turning, nodding to my close friends, who all quickly fell into line behind me; Sam, with his on the spot sense of humor and heavily tattooed body; Victor with his quick mind and even quick ability to do mathematics in his head on the spot; Thor, with his brutish strength and sweet, easy going nature; Loki with his graceful agility and ambidextrous hands, Pietro with his charming smile and sweet kisses; Peter with his nimble ability to quickly scale trees to keep a lookout for kills and bandits.

And then there was me.

I was skilled enough with many weapons, my main weapons of choice being deadly close combat and throwing knives and my trusty bow. My ability to skillfully hunt and my general distrust towards all except my Queen’s Bandits made my temper somewhat unpredictable; but what I lacked in social skills, I made up for in being the village sheriff.

“Loki, do you hear anything?” I asked, my voice coming out as a quiet whisper. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw him tilt his head as he closed his eyes for the briefest of moments. His eyes shot open as he quickly took up the lead, taking up deeper into the wood on a heart thumping chase.

At long last, I spied our target, and I loaded my bow with an arrow and got ready to take aim. I breathed in silently before letting the projectile fly. A smirk took over my face as the deer fell, and once more, my Queen’s Bandits got to work.

I watched them work as I slipped back into my thoughts once more; da’s brutal murder still fresh on my mind. The hand that wasn’t holding my bow clenched into a tight fist and I had to stop myself from breathing heavily. My father had sent countless letters to King Joseph, begging for help in defending the village from bandit raids, only to get chirping crickets in response.

The king had da’s blood on his hands; if I should ever meet him, I would deck him and most defiantly break his nose. I honestly didn’t care if assaulting a member of the royal family was certain death, I knew I had to make the king feel what I had felt for the past three years.

He had worked so hard to make the capitol and all the surrounding cities and towns prosperous, so why had he ignored the little village of mine?

I was snapped from my thought by Loki standing in front of me and placing a gentle hand onto my shoulder.

“Are you alright?” he asked me softly, his hand rubbing a comforting circle into my skin. I smiled up at him before pulling away.

“Come on; we should be heading back now,” I called out in a soft voice, avoiding his concerned question. “I don’t feel safe this deep in the woods with bandits running underfoot once the sun goes down.”

“Following right behind you, sheriff,” Pietro said, his easy smile nearly making me swoon at my dark haired lover. I barely managed to stop myself from making doeful heart eyes at him as I turned, a light blush dusting my cheeks as I led the way, my boots silently marching through the underbrush and leaves.

I skillfully followed the subtle X’s that I had marked the trees with to help lead us back to the village, my eyes darting from every tree to every bush; it wouldn’t surprise me if bandits attacked us in the open.

I didn’t like being vulnerable; it only led to certain death around this neck of the country.

Within minutes, we were on the less traveled road that led to the village; I couldn’t help0 but notice fresh tire tracks in the dust.

“Careful, now,” I warned in a soft voice. “I don’t think it’s the bandits, but be sure to keep your guard up!” I’d didn’t have to turn my head to see that everyone was nodding their heads in silent agreement as I slowly led the way towards the only exit into the crudely fortified village.

I was about to round the bend when Thor placed a hand onto my shoulder.

“Wait here; I’ll go check it out,” he breathed into my ear before going first before I could kick up a protest.

Barely even a minute passed before he called out to us.

“It’s safe!” his booming voice nearly making me jump. I was first to go around the bend, where I saw a motorcade was all but blocking to entrance. As we approached, we all couldn’t help but notice a man in an expensive looking suit was arguing with the half dozen sentries who were guarding the village from bandits.

“Look, you going to have to wait for the sheriff to return from hunting,” one of the sentries was saying firmly over the other man’s blusterings, clearly done listening to whatever crap the he was trying to feed the armed sentry. I could only roll my eyes as I marched up to the front of the village with most of the male population of the Queen’s Bandits falling in behind me.

“Sheriff! Welcome back!” a second sentry called out in an annoyed tone of voice. “These blokes are trying to get in… some kind of official business… I’m sorry to say that I tuned them out after they mentioned something about royalty or whatever…”

“You’re the sheriff?” Mr. Fancy Pants asked in shock. “But you’re a girl!”

This made me stop and slowly turn to face him. I drew myself up to my embarrassingly short height before marching straight up to that sonofabitch and staring him directly in the eye.

“I am not a girl, I am a dangerous storm with skin that will destroy you unless you tell me what you Goddamned hillbillies think you’re doing in my village,” I hissed venomously, ignoring everything until Pietro placed his hand onto my shoulder, messaging my skin gently. My hand went up to his as I stared up at the messenger, who was clearly trembling in his spotless shiny boots.

“I’m afraid this is between King Joseph and Miss Rosabella Swan,” he sniffed delicately, making my blood boil at the name of the king.

“It would be a wise choice to state your business,” I growled, not at all amused with the colors that the man’s face was turning. “Right now.” When he didn’t answer, my volatile mood turned even further south. “Turn them away!” I barked before beginning to storm into the village.

The sound of a car door opening caught my attention and my hand went to the knife I carried at my back, my head turning to see who was emerging from the motorcade.

My blood went cold as King Joseph ambled up to the little cluster of people blocking the front of the village.

“You!” I snarled, beginning to charge towards the man who was responsible for my father’s murder; I was stopped by Thor and Loki, each grabbing a hold of my arms as two more men joined the king. I didn’t recognize them; one was a scrawny blond who looked like a gust of wind would blow him over; the second was a well-built man with dark hair that lightly brushed his shoulders.

I laughed bitterly at the shocked expression on everyone’s face.

“What brings such a murdersome king like you to my small village of Wakanda?” I asked with a deep scowl etched into my face.

What even is going on in Greece nowadays ? I was following this in 2017 during grexit

Well just your concern and solidarity is more than enough :)I am really surprised to see people looking up the situation in Greece these days. At least one good thing this goverment did is to raise awairness worldwide with their bizzare and bold strategy. Well people at firstwelcomed them as the messiah, most people still do. Before that I don’t even think people knew the actual situation here. All we were gettinh were the lazy greeks stealing european money stereotype, not knowing what the debt really ment and who was benefiting from the situation. But yes the betrayal of the referendum was the biggest shock. Most of us accepted the possibility of leaving the eurozone If that ment keeping our dignity, but no all of this was just a waste of time. I really can’t blame the government though, this has to be the most honest and hardtrying government this country has seen in years. All of our previous currupted rich stacking politicians are slowly disapearing and I am greatful for that, I just wish they payed back evrything they stole from the country all those years.Well I hope a better day will come, not just for Greece but everyone in a similar state. Other european countries of the south are in a pretty bad situation themselves so it may no be long before the “European Dream“ colapses in shuttered pieces. Time will tell. But I am really happy to see people realising that it’s not our people’s fault, that we did not create this crisis and are just victims of politics and economical games. We've got student union elections every two years, and the parties are usually made up of aspiring politicians and mostly have equivalents to the actual political parties of the country. The results however are usually VERY to the left of general elections.

Afterwards, the university-specific results get published and I decided to look them up after the most recent one last year.

Anyways, there's a university of economics in Vienna. Over 50% voted for a party which has major curruption problems and managed to fuck the economy (very high inflation, generally more sucky than EU average) all while they've had the ministry of finance. Also, they recently proposed cutting unemployment to 'encourage people to work more' and keep blocking and declawing climate change laws bc 'but the economy', and just generally show severe contempt towards particularly the poorest in the country and ignorance of basic realities.

Idk if these people are taught shit, or if you just need to be an ethics-less idiot to even go there in the first place, but there's a reason I don't have much respect for the average business or economics student. Do economists just block out reality? Or do they not adjust the curriculum?

the universal college experience, no matter your major, is learning how remarkably fucked everything is. except business majors theyre having a great time learning to do basic arithmetic and and staring at that one supply and demand graph where the line goes up

(my) Mag a Week Special Feature: Stalking Fluff

Hello there!

Here is the thing: I participated in the "a mag a day" idea by @a-mag-a-day which is BRILLIANT and I decided to do "statement a week", rolling dice with the characters and fears that were ftw that week in the episodes I have listened. But, then, I thought...what if I made some special features for when each season finishes? And then the mid-seasons breaks came and I thought...YEAH, THOSE TWO, VERY SHORT FLUFFY-ESQUE FICS! Then, time happened so I  am doing them NOW. Also: fluffly is with MY PERCEPTION OF FLUFFY.

For season four break I've gotten Basira as main character and as a The Beholding avatar.

Of all the doomed destinies a former policeperson could face, becoming an avatar of The Beholding was a quite mild one. It still didn’t say much good about your own personality, nor the situations you had had to face or your response to them, but at least gave you a slightly bigger credit than being chosen by The Hunt, or The Curruption. After all, there were very few things that say lesser of you than being so self-righteous violent you become a literal abusive monster, or so crooked your own body start to show the corruption you display on a daily basis.

Of course, when Basira had first realised the hunger and weakness she was feeling could no longer be attributed to regular sleep deprivation and the barely nutritious diet she could maintain while being on long cases, that always meant even longer stakeouts, she hadn’t know she was kind of lucky.

Or not as terrible of a person as sometimes a little voice in the back of her head told her she was being. For enabling Daisy’s tendencies, for accepting the more than questionable politics of her superiors, for self-justifying the tactics she herself used.

When she realised this, she did the thing she would have never thought herself capable of: she tried to blow her brains out.

 In all honestly, her patron didn’t care that much about the one that would come to be known as The Detective enough to prevent her from committing suicide. However, a man once known as Jonah Magnus, currently operating under the name of Elias Bouchard, and his frenemie Melanie King saw the dying body and chose to save her.

Basira didn’t want to be a hero; she just wanted to rest in peace. To stop harming, but also to be able to deny she had even harm anyone in the first place (she was way too thorough to do so while still alive).

Still, Elias’ story, the once great villain turned into unwilling anti-hero due to someone putting into perspective all his more than questionable centuries worth of murder actions, compelled her.

Gertrude Robinson had begun wanting to help, and lost herself in the process. “The Law is the Law” as Inspector Javert from Les Miserables would have said, and it didn’t matter how that was accomplished. She had cared so little for the collateral damages than even Jonah had begun to wonder about his politics .

Basira only put two conditions to help them: to save her former partner (the person she loved most in the world) from herself and to wait for Robinson to burn The UK Police as an institution to the ground before acting against her (the woman was right about certain things, after all).

She would never knew whether she was granted those conditions due to a mutual understanding of where she was coming from, or just because she had retained enough intimidation skills when she left The Force; but the point was, she got what she wanted and now their world was still dark and twisted.

Just, a little bit fairer.

 Basira ordered a dark coffee and an extra sweet cappuccino and bit her tongue before asking how had been the day of the baker-bartender of her favourite coffee shop. After all, Martin was too much of a sweetheart to be forced to relive his past traumas.

She thought that, in other context, she couldn’t have handled certain aspects of the man’s personality with enough tact, but as an acquaintance with whom to exchange books, the company was more than welcome.

She smiled as the towering, yet not menacing at all, figure and went back to the desk she was sharing with Elias (who had definitively buried Jonah along the way).

“So…what now, Archivist? Back with your ex? World domination?” he shrugged.

“Actually, I believe I have grown quite fond of this planet as it is…so partial UK domination would be more than enough for now and about the other question I am willing to answer…now, how is comfortable with her title now Detective ?” he smirked and, hadn’t she knew this man was gayer than Oscar Wilde, she could have taken his tone as a completely flirtatious one.

She just shipped; made sure Melanie was still coming on her phone and rolled her eyes.

As much as she hated to admit it, Elias was right. She was still playing for the bad guys (even if undeniably less bad than the ones she used to earn a salary from), but she felt comfortable.

For the first time in her entire life, she was comfortable.

Detective Basira had a long life ahead of her; she just hoped it never came to gorging eyes.
