Happy Hearts & Matching Outfits! #3

Late post! Sorry--this went up on Wordpress but we forgot to schedule it here.

It’s that time of the year again when both lonely and love-filled hearts come together to celebrate the Valentine’s holiday this coming week. Having engaged in this tradition of presenting matching outfits that make me happy for two years now, I’ve decided to make it a lasting ritual! So, here I am—posting while on break.

From For My Derelict Favorite on Webtoon, we have our main couple in a beautiful set of purple outfits. This love story is a slow burn, and it’s nice to see the planning for their couple outfit in the story itself. This is the chapter were our ML is really starting to get to know his wife and starting to care about knowing her. It is a cute and nice inclusion. I also love that these two have begun consistently wearing matching outfits as time goes on, mostly with purple as their primary color.

From I Will Fall With the Emperor (not officially translated yet) we have a great villain couple. They’ve been subtly matching for a while now and this is shown to be a thoughtful inclusion by the artist/writer because throughout the series, characters that want to be on the MC’s side are shown to change their style of dress to match hers. Seeing the two matching in the beautiful burgundy above shows them coming closer as a couple, and also fits their villainous aesthetic!

From The Promise on Inker (Chapter 19), we have a more modern ensemble choice for the same-sex couple in this particular scene. Unlike most of the series where the couple does not wear matching outfits, they attend this event in coordinated attire. The significance becomes apparent when we see that all the couples in the series appear in matching outfits of distinctly different colors/styles for the event. This act symbolizes partnership and, to some extent, ownership at that moment. Interestingly, the love interest is likely the one that selected the outfits, notably choosing a shade of purple that complements our main character’s eyes.

From The Male Lead’s Little Lion Daughter on Tapas, we have another cute matching outfit between a father and daughter! I mentioned these two before in my last matching outfits post of 2023, and here they are again dressed up in similar colors and styles for a day out.

I have been reading the manhua "the rogue prince is secretly an omega" and i am really enjoying the story so far. I like the mais cast and the plot is pretty interesting and got me invested on what is going to happen.

But i can't get over a few missed opportunities that would have made the story go from good the exelent.

On the first few chapters i thought the empress would get some sort of development or would at least be more fleshed out. I really really liked that she has a calculating and scheeming personality and that this played directly on the narrative relating to her situation with her husband and subsequently with her son.

I mean it's just obvious that someone who grew up watching the curruption of the nobility wield actually good resultus for other nobles (be it rising on the social hierarchy, marrying into richness, etc etc.). Besides, on that context no marriege was made for the sake of love, she is pragmatic and grounded on reality when she scheemes to mary into royalty and she succeedes!!

I think this goes a long way to prove that she is smart and can use her resources to her advantage even when a literal prince did not want to marry her. All the while being an omega, so like there is that disadvantage as well.

But i really think they could have upped the game in regards to her hiding that etienne is an omega. The story plays it like this is her hunger for power and this is the only way she knows how to controll people and that is fine and good, but my vision is:

Imagine if she was tired of all of the scheemes of the court, the gossips, the political façades and most importantly tired of her own fate married to a man who failed to reach the societal standard (which was relevant to her when she chose to marry him) who does not love her and niether does she love him. I keep thinking what if her story was one of regret, if only she was not an omega, if only society could have acepted her as the head of her family she would not have to be in this eternal power struggle to mantain herself and her position on the court.

So she chooses to give her son a different life, somethibg she thinks she would have wanted in his place. A chance to be an emperror and wield all the power even while being an omega. Of course, she would have to keep on scheeming and making secret plots to get him there, and they would have to hide the fact that he was born an omega.

But she has already moved so many plots in her life, so what if she is tired? It is for a better future, it is for her son to have a chance she did not. And she embraces that choice.

I think it would still be very ok for her to be a domineering character who rages at others, a perfectionist and a very controling person because this is what her reality shaped her into beeing. She has to be in control, because her son is still too young to make choices for himself. She has to be in control because this is the final stretch, look at how much they have already achieved. At how loong they have already fooled the world. Etienne can not loose his rightfull place on the throne, just because her husband is doting on a random person (richar).

I trully think that if they had went with this motivation she would still be able to move the plot in a very very similar manner, and they wouldn't even have to change her personality at all.

She would just be a much more compelling character and we would be able to relate to her trying to live another life trough her son and falling into the same scheemes and bad habits she grew to hate because this is the only path she knows. All the while she could be geniunely believe that she is doing all of this just to give her son a better life.

Honestly i can never get over how much of a lost opportunity this is.

I mean there is still chance, but i think it's very unlikely at this point.

They just wrote her to be a villain and they didn't care to give her any depth. Even while all of this was right there, didnt even have to think too much.

Also i hate that on the most recent chapters the emperor is like helping Etienne??? And everyone is like, ok i forgive your years of neglect bc yeah the empress is really fucked up and uuuuuuhhhhh............. bc you seem to care abt etienne now? Just because richard used the talk no jutsu.

Dont even get me started on how they could have made the emperor story more compeling.

Oooh what are these au's where Lando runs away

I realized I currently have three possible au's where Lando runs away. Although the last one isn't really him running away, but it is angst and involves Lando leaving and I have a short drabble about it from dm's with a friend so I'll leave that one out of this post but hmu if people want some werewolf pack angst....

Prince and the Pauper au

High society but olden times. Lando is the youngest child of the wealthy Button-Vettel family who are considered to be the highest of high society in their town. Jenson is a doctor, and Sebastian a philanthropist. They help a lot of the neighboring towns that are struck by poverty or cruel Lords. After Lando comes of age (21), his parents start pressuring him to marry but they won't let him marry for love. Both his older brothers, Charles and George, married for love but Lando had always been the sick child, the quiet one, the wallflower so Jenson decides that the best thing for Lando is for him to marry who they choose.

After he realises that they won't listen to what he wants or support his passions because he isn't scholarly like George or social like Charles, Lando runs away. He feels trapped in his own home and life and would rather go far away with no money to start a life of his chosing.

Pierre is a well known rogue who often steals from or blackmails rich Lords and landlords taking advantage of the less well off. He respects Jenson and Sebastian because they have funded his efforts in helping people before but he doesn't fully trust the rich after how he ended up orphaned. He is asked by Jenson and Sebastian to try find Lando and bring him (or his body if the worst has happened) home

ABO Pack au/ABO Angst au

Lando ran away from the pack he was born into the night he turned eighteen because they believed that omegas were property for marriage and breeding. His parents had arranged a mating for him to a man almost fifteen years older than him, who had put his hands on Lando before he was ever eighteen. They were abusive, and he his only chance at a better life was to run away and with the help of a beta in the pack, Lando escapes with all his documents.

A few years later, when he is twenty and finally gets enough money to go to university, he meets Max and Charles. The two omegas take a liking to Lando, and start to invite him to their pack that is run by unmated pack leaders Lewis and Ferando, and has Alex, George and Daniel as well. Lando slowly accepts them as pack and moves into the pack house but never discloses his full past to any of them....except Daniel who he later starts to secretly court.

When Dan is away, Lando thinks he spots someone from his past and grows anxious. When he attempts to seek out comfort from the pack, they all seem to be having a bad day and snap at Lando. They shove him away, tell him he's annoying or a nuisance, to leave tham alone because "some of us have jobs and aren't burdens to the pack" when Landos the only left in uni. The final straw is Lewis, the pack alpha, looses it when Lando accidentally breaks something and uses his alpha voice on Lando, calling him useless and telling him to get out of their sight because they don't want to look at him.

It just completely sends Lando into a spiral, and when everyone is asleep, he runs away, determined to start again and not hurt the pack anymore than he already has, not knowing that there are things in the dark waiting to hurt him.....

Yeah. So. They pretty much glossed over the compexties of his relationship with etienne?? Like i understand that he would avoid leona, they made that pretty clear.

But i think the thibg with etienne is a lot more convoluted and not really well explored though i think they have hinted at it. I think he just neglected etienne because the sight of him would remind edwin of how he was raped. So yeah pretty upfront and easy to understand why.

But as etienne grew older i think there was more than just that trauma, i think he saw leonas influence on him, ofc she was the only parent he had. And edwin would grow further and further appart, be it because he thinks etienne would deslike him anyways (because of leonas influence) or be it because of his own growing resentment toward that arranged marriage and the death of his true love (plotted by leona i think, but i dont reaaaly remember that detail).

Anyways i think he had a lot of reasons to neglect and avoid etienne, even actually hate etienne. And i think his change of mind was underwhelming.

Suddenly richar talks to him about his son and he is like hummmm.... how abt i hear my son out for the first time ever. And then he is like, 'wow etienne is poggers' and chooses to help them.

Ok this is an oversimplification i dont this this was this badly handled but looking back there are no memorable moments of him changing his mind or his character going trough any sort of arc that could justify his chage. This change, which is of great importance to the current plot, arose not by him confronting his trauma, nor by him getting over his unfair resentment in any meaningfull way, it was just richar talking stuff and him thinking 'yeah, ur right'.

Also. That thing abt him being in love with richar's father felt so so crazy to me. Like ok i get it and i felt sorry for him he loved someone else and he practicaly had almost no choice regading that arranged marriage, but like dude was literraly a prince. He had to know he would have to have an arranged marriage right? Or else he was just plain fucking dumb. Also. Most common think in forever are relations outside of marriage, especially in court. But ok ok.

But what is most crazy to me is that it feels like he projects the love he felt for richar's father onto richar, which is a lil bit creepy.

If i were etienne i would genuinely never accept his sudden change of heart. Etienne was never responsible for anything that happened to him, but instead of a true cathartic moment in which etienne establishes himself as his own person who doesnt seek his fathers approval anymore (or truly anything of the sort i am not picky) he just goes with the flow all like 'Oh wow father likes me now i guess, time to not question that'.

Also. I get that etienne holds no grudge against rishar for edwin doting on him while etienne himself was neglected, but for the love of god at least hold a grudge against the mand who ignored you for at least 16 years, and let you in the hands of a woman he knows is controling and influential.

He literally gave up on etienne and ignored his existence for years, he projected all of the bad things leona did onto and innocent child, and now you think i will just accept that he helps them now?? All willy nilly like?

I think this was a wholy undeserved redemption. Idk might have been just me, but i dont think it should have happened so suddenly and with so little build up.

(Again i really enjoy the story and those things are just points i think would be very cool if they were better developed, dont mean any actual hate towards the writers or artists)

I have been reading the manhua "the rogue prince is secretly an omega" and i am really enjoying the story so far. I like the mais cast and the plot is pretty interesting and got me invested on what is going to happen.

But i can't get over a few missed opportunities that would have made the story go from good the exelent.

On the first few chapters i thought the empress would get some sort of development or would at least be more fleshed out. I really really liked that she has a calculating and scheeming personality and that this played directly on the narrative relating to her situation with her husband and subsequently with her son.

I mean it's just obvious that someone who grew up watching the curruption of the nobility wield actually good resultus for other nobles (be it rising on the social hierarchy, marrying into richness, etc etc.). Besides, on that context no marriege was made for the sake of love, she is pragmatic and grounded on reality when she scheemes to mary into royalty and she succeedes!!

I think this goes a long way to prove that she is smart and can use her resources to her advantage even when a literal prince did not want to marry her. All the while being an omega, so like there is that disadvantage as well.

But i really think they could have upped the game in regards to her hiding that etienne is an omega. The story plays it like this is her hunger for power and this is the only way she knows how to controll people and that is fine and good, but my vision is:

Imagine if she was tired of all of the scheemes of the court, the gossips, the political façades and most importantly tired of her own fate married to a man who failed to reach the societal standard (which was relevant to her when she chose to marry him) who does not love her and niether does she love him. I keep thinking what if her story was one of regret, if only she was not an omega, if only society could have acepted her as the head of her family she would not have to be in this eternal power struggle to mantain herself and her position on the court.

So she chooses to give her son a different life, somethibg she thinks she would have wanted in his place. A chance to be an emperror and wield all the power even while being an omega. Of course, she would have to keep on scheeming and making secret plots to get him there, and they would have to hide the fact that he was born an omega.

But she has already moved so many plots in her life, so what if she is tired? It is for a better future, it is for her son to have a chance she did not. And she embraces that choice.

I think it would still be very ok for her to be a domineering character who rages at others, a perfectionist and a very controling person because this is what her reality shaped her into beeing. She has to be in control, because her son is still too young to make choices for himself. She has to be in control because this is the final stretch, look at how much they have already achieved. At how loong they have already fooled the world. Etienne can not loose his rightfull place on the throne, just because her husband is doting on a random person (richar).

I trully think that if they had went with this motivation she would still be able to move the plot in a very very similar manner, and they wouldn't even have to change her personality at all.

She would just be a much more compelling character and we would be able to relate to her trying to live another life trough her son and falling into the same scheemes and bad habits she grew to hate because this is the only path she knows. All the while she could be geniunely believe that she is doing all of this just to give her son a better life.

Honestly i can never get over how much of a lost opportunity this is.

I mean there is still chance, but i think it's very unlikely at this point.

They just wrote her to be a villain and they didn't care to give her any depth. Even while all of this was right there, didnt even have to think too much.

Also i hate that on the most recent chapters the emperor is like helping Etienne??? And everyone is like, ok i forgive your years of neglect bc yeah the empress is really fucked up and uuuuuuhhhhh............. bc you seem to care abt etienne now? Just because richard used the talk no jutsu.

Dont even get me started on how they could have made the emperor story more compeling.
