paramount and spyglass are trying so hard right now to save face because jenna ortega rightfully left the scream franchise after they fired melissa for supprting palestine. nobody is dumb enough to believe the excuse that it’s a scheduling conflict hours after rumors she was trying to get out of her contract cause she was pissed. i’m very thankful that jenna is risking her career and using her position to do the right thing. she’s been outspoken about palestine for years now. i hope this begins a trend of zionist losing money for their support and complacency with an active genocide
#free palestine#scream#jenna ortega#melissa barrera#i won’t be surprise if other cast members leave the project#many have been outspoken for years but few have the cultural capital jenna has#i love this cast and this franchise but the right thing to do is boycott future scream content unless it changes hands to people who#wont support war crimes#it takes remarkably little of me to give up a media i love while actual people are dying daily#the carpenter sisters make me so proud 💗#melissa has since been posting nonstop about palestine and i’m just endlessly proud of her#💗💗💗

i think every user on this website needs to be forced to watch through all fifteen seasons of spn clockwork orange style like no jokes FOR REAL for real i think it would recalibrate everyone for the better
#text#my post#mobi#show:spn#i think it’s very important to the culture#not so much for the content although that can be better than you have made it out to be#but like the vibes i get from people. people who sat through all or most of spn are less annoying and more fun than you. there i said it.

Which is your favorite platform? (of the ones you have accounts to post things I mean. I can't imagine it being Instagram since you don't really post there which honestly fair)
Tumblr, Twitter (X?) bluesky? Something else?
I think I'm going to have to go with tumblr, and it's not just because we're here. Twitter and Bluesky are nice and my experiences on both are overwhelmingly positive. But tumblr has an atmosphere that encourages originality, sharing your creations and talking about things in depth.
#I dislike the mindset of making “content” and when I'm posting here I don't feel like I have to tailor my posts to be#as easily consumable by as many people as possible#microblogging platforms are fast paced and you're constantly fighting the algorithm#making long text posts is inconvenient and usually not worth the trouble#so I rarely talk about my characters or their lore outside of tumblr#what's nice is that when you ramble about your personal projects and fictional fixations here people tend to be pretty receptive to it#like they Get These Feelings and are able to analyze and read between the lines really well at least if you ask me#on top of that customizing your browsing experience and curating an organized blog is easier#and above everything I love and cherish tumblr's tag culture#very often the best commentary I get comes from tags#answered#anonymous#instagram continues to give me bad vibes and going there has always felt like a chore

kabru's relationship with his eyes makes for suuuuuch a fantastic trans allegory (an aspect of your body alienating you from your community, being compelled to understand the perspective of someone who also has a complicated relationship with their body in the hopes that you'll better understand your own, people straight up misunderstanding biology) it makes me kind of insane because now I feel like I can't dig into any complicated feelings he might have about his body in relation to his gender without feeling like im just ... double dipping?? like fifjpejgh ryoko kui straight up already told that story in a way that exquisitely fucks??
#dungeon meshi#told yall this fic was crunchy#tfw youre a trans allegory on top of just being trans#mfw i can't even have him struggling with feeling infantilized or seen as weak because kui already did that too!!#cant have shit in dunmesh!!#it's trans allegories all the way down#personally im more interested in how kabru's gender presentation might have caused external conflict growing up with elves#who seem to be coded as generally culturally conservative#happy to see that one post about marcille and her gender hangups floating around because ive been having the exact same ruminations lol#bugs me so bad when people write off trans kabru hc as “people just see him as effeminate and think trans” especially in regards to labru#like no!!! there's layers here!!#youre telling me a queer coded this narrative?#stuffs all the complicated feelings about your body content into laios instead lmao#[slaps roof of car] this bad boy can fit so much body dysmorphia into him#he might have a penis but idk if that makes him cis either 🤔

people kicking and screaming about the cultural worldbuilding in Dawntrail:
people who aren't white redditors:
#sorry if anyone here was expecting me to bitch about dawntrail but it's a delight so far#there are valid criticisms to be made about it sure but most of the complaints i'm seeing are “eww cultures i don't care about”#“ewww slowburn worldbuilding”#“ewww wuk lamat bad”#it's def not the best expansion but it's not as criminally bad as a lot of people are making it out to be#there's a lot of great side content too like i'm actually into the sidequests for once#and if your complaints about the story come down to “i don't care about this fake culture” then congrats you missed the xpac's messaging#being a stranger in a foreign land is good for you#god is this how the LO fans feel LMAO

I know my last experience with a season ending on a note everyone hated and unanimously tore to fucking shreds for destroying the story on every level was... atypical. Lockdown. 6 month mass hysteria at minimum. Conspiracy theories that were, like, real things we had on camera. There was a Twitter wedding. Creative fervor that broke 100k fics on AO3.
Like. I know this is not a rational point of comparison and I'm not going to expect anything in my lifetime to match it 🤣
But.
If that was the highest high of post-season fandom engagement built on a cocktail of tasting everything you ever wanted AND the absolutely lethal levels of spite and swearing to eat showrunners' hearts in the marketplace, then whatever the fuck is going on after OFMD S2 is the opposite of that.
OFMD S1 was a huge fandom explosion. One silly little streaming show that had a gay kiss and then it skyrocketed. Fic numbers were soaring, high activity fic and meta engagement lasted for at least four months, it was constantly trending and flooding the dash... Like, fucking hell, over a year and a half after the immediate finale fervor it beat Stucky in the top ships bracket?!? To the point I was willing to give it what felt like due credit toward its potential as a future juggernaut ship. Not guaranteed, of course, but the potential was there.
In that context, new content should be a blow out party. Which it kinda was pulling off as it was airing, but looking back now? Not even quite a month later?
The effect of S2 on the fandom is like... a blip. Possibly over already.
New fic numbers started dropping off the moment the finale aired and have returned to deep hiatus levels. It's dropped off trending and streaming leaderboards... I'm very curious to see the first tumblr Week in Review since the finale, though we're still waiting due to the holiday.
Like, I've even popped on to scroll a few Izzy hater blogs that I know loved the finale out of morbid curiosity what they were up to, and I'm telling you... if I hadn't just watched the new season I'd think they were still over a year into hiatus. Saw some standard bitching about the izcourse / Edward takes (aka the one thing that kept them going all hiatus), they're currently passing around posts mocking one specific long OFMD version of TJLC I'm just hearing of, the same BTS gifsets everyone else is thrilled by... But barely any new meta or discussions. There's like 2 people posting actual analysis of S2 that's getting reblogged and they aren't even names I recognize from the hiatus. Nor is it particularly interesting to read. 🤷♀️
In July of 2022 I could pop onto a random OFMD blog and scroll through a dozen enthusiastic Stede or BlackBonnet metas about jacket colors or that moth from 1x07 or lighthouse symbolism or whatever. Now the new stuff has the same energy as posts from June 2023. It's borderline dead. And this is what it's like when there's an active campaign to engage fandom and Renew as a Crew?
(I will say fanartists are bringing some energy and there's some lovely pieces being passed around, which I do think the Renew as a Crew campaign is helping to boost?)
Even the hundreds of people saying it was a beautiful season and they loved it so much don't seem to be finding it a very engaging or inspiring season.
It's such a turn, like, what the fuck.
#our flag means death#ofmd s2#ofmd critical#fandom culture#i was counting on this season to still having me engaged in analysis come *january* and THAT'S not going to pan out obviously#but what the fuck#i'm turning over stones like 'surely the excited fandom is hiding here' and then it's 3 bugs with an anti-izzy pamphlet#like if people weren't trying to process their dislike of the finale then half this fandom's new content wouldn't exist#and that's not promising for the long run 👀👀👀#ladyluscinia

Heroes of Olympus AU - Octavian is some sort of semi-famous social media influencer, that either obsessively makes content for a fandom he's been hyperfixated on (like Harry Potter or Star Wars or something) or he makes content with memes, tips and hacks to help neurodivergent ppl (like those "Global undiagnosed autism experience" or "use this study method if you have ADHD").
He started doing this bc he had a lot of things to say about his special interests and no one to talk to bc everyone around him found him annoying, so he started a secret social media account and worked his way up to a well known influencer.
Leo is his biggest fan and has watched all of his videos, with bc he's also hyperfixated on the same fandom or because the tips help him a lot to function. And he immediately recognizes him and his eyes turn into little hearts. He's been obsessed with that dude bc Leo is 100% a pop culture minion and he's been trying to convince his friends to watch his content as well but they just don't get it like he does.
So during the first Greek/Roman meeting, Leo's sitting there, amongst his friends, that are mocking and interrupting his idol, that is only a few feet away from Leo himself, and he has to contain his excitement and not seem weird and scare him off. And then he actually gets to be alone with this man that he's been hyperfixated on for at least two to three years and he thinks he'll explode!!
#Leo really feels like one of those pop culture celebrity obsessed people#and why not have Octavian be that person?#he's a legacy not a demigod#he might be such a distant relative of Apollo that he can use a phone without attracting monsters#and Leo would always use a library computer or borrow the phone of one of his foster siblings or Annabeth to keep up with Tav's new content#hoo#heroes of Olympus#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo#leo valdez#octavian hoo#hoo octavian

The problem is we're looking for someone to grow old together while the secret is finding someone to remain kid with....
Someone who brings out the inner child in us....
Someone who breaks the walls which we have built around our hearts...
Someone who makes us believe that it's not necessary that we are always the one who love but never the loved...
Someone who can be our muse....
Someone who feels like a warm hug after a chilly night....
Someone who is like the moon....

One of my old giveaways popped up in my notes and I saw it had 40k notes. And that was just normal back then.
Boy, has tumblr dramatically changed in the last few years lol
#I can’t even imagine that number of notes these days#I remember when I’d post the most low effort picture of a crystal#and it would get like 2k notes#now I’ll spend hours trying to make the perfect most aesthetically pleasing post#and it will get 50 notes#hahaha 💀#it’s crazy how tumblr tries to deny there’s a fraction of the users on here that there used to be#also the culture has shifted and people don’t like reblogging as much anymore#which has been a big detriment to creators#or artists#whatever you want to call the people making original content#but anyway

I'd like to propose a new rule for fandom:
If you have the time and energy to complain that there are not enough people writing the types of fanfiction that you want to see because they are daring to enjoy themselves by writing other things that you personally don't like to read, then you also have the time and energy to sit down at your keyboard and write it yourself and are, by default, volunteering yourself to do so.
"Everybody is too obsessed with [popular ship]! Nobody's writing for my favorite ship!"
Then write it yourself.
"Everybody's writing SHIP and SMUT fics! I want something else!"
Then write it yourself.
"Why isn't anyone writing super in-depth 200 chapter fics with fully realized plots and character development?!"
Because that takes time and energy that not everyone is willing to invest in a hobby they're partaking in for fun. Oh yeah, and WRITE IT YOURSELF if you want it so damn bad.
There's nothing wrong with feeling frustrated that you can't find what you're looking for because you have specific taste, or perhaps your taste is different from that of the majority of the fandom. This is fine and understandable and I completely relate! But once you start complaining that the only reason people won't write what you want them to is because they're "lazy", "unoriginal", or any other insult you might think is clever, then what you're doing is demanding other people put down what they're doing to serve YOU.
Fanworks are shared with you, not made for you. Unless commissioned, fanfiction is not a commercial product and it is not held to any standards of excellence. It has an inherent right to be as polished or as messy, as defined or as vague, as the author pleases. All works of fiction about fictional characters have an innate right to exist. Your ideas are no different, but it is on you to bring those ideas into existence.
Your options are to find the fics you like, commission an author (under the table of course), or write it yourself. These things are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. NOBODY ELSE'S.
#fandom#proship#profic#fanfiction#glue speaks#purity culture#felt like I should make this its own post#for the record yes this does count under fancop behavior#it's another method of policing fanworks#this is NOT referring to general wishing there were more of a certain kind of work#this is specifically in reference to judging others for writing things you don't like and not the things you do like#this is for those who judge others for enjoying themselves with things as simple as lgbt headcanons#or for being content with coming up with concepts rather than fleshing out entire stories#basically this is only in reference to#the disdain and disapproval toward people for creating things you don't think are acceptable#or aren't “good enough”

I found this series of videos interviewing regular Palestinians, originally made for people learning Arabic. I would really recommend it for anyone who cares about Palestine! The videos aren’t directly about the occupation, and are more light-hearted videos about daily life, but I think they are worth watching. The interviewer is also Bisan, a Palestinian journalist who is currently helping document what’s happening in Gaza.

#My post#palestine#free palestine#gaza#language#language learning#arabic#whats sad is the comments mention a recent bombardment on Gaza. BUT ITS FROM 2022#99% Palestinians have known the occupation and terror#Their whole life#But despite this they are not defined fully by pain#and are a full and real culture and people#So it’s important to see that#palestine genocide#palestine will be free#I would also recommend this channel for anyone learning a language because it has a ton of content#Youtube#Linguistics

I've referenced before how I have a big google document to keep track of every media I've ever seen in my entire life (just for reference because I like to track everything possible lol… I am the Data Collector), but recently as I was updating it, I thought of actually evaluating them to find out random percentages (like for example, out of Total Shows Watched, what percentage did I finish vs. stop watching, what percentage did I like or dislike, etc.)...
Evaluating these things is made easier by the fact that I already place everything on each subsection of the list into 6 broad ranking categories, so I don't have to go back and guess to figure out how I feel about them or anything. The categories are: Ranking 5 - overall best* (despite some criticisms of course because I'm too much of an Analyzer to ever find anything Perfect lol) Ranking 4 - more positive than neutral, but not good enough to be 5 Ranking 3 - either the good + bad negate each other, OR it's just not memorable/interesting in any way enough to be ranked higher or lower (this is the Default category ALL things are placed in if no other rank applies) Ranking 2 - maybe a few redeemable elements but largely more negatives than positives Ranking 1 - So bad that it circles around to being fascinating to observe in some way (not necessarily Funny, or Good, but just interesting somehow) Ranking 0 - Bad in a genuinely frustrating or obnoxious manner
*("best" primarily defined here as most interesting, rather than most good in a technical sense, or some other measure. I tend to value more highly whether there's something novel or thoughtful about the worldbuilding, tone, writing, base premise, etc - than about whether it's actually executed perfectly.)
And here's the amount of shows that have so far been placed into each category -
TV shows ~ Rank 5 (highest) - 20 shows ~ Rank 4 (mid-high) - 28 shows ~ Rank 3 (neutral/default/meh) - 114 shows ~ Rank 2 (mid low) -33 shows ~ Rank 1 (low low but intriguingly so) - 14 shows ~ Rank 0 (iredeemably low) - 2 shows
This would make for a total of 211 TV shows overall. However, there are 57 shows within these list marked as "didn't finish" (typically meaning I quit on the very first or second episode - but log them still to keep a record that I at least had a brief view of them).
So my total of genuinely fully watched shows would be more 154. 211 Total, but a More Accurate Total of 154.
Counting them all and using the Total Number Of The List (211) -- that means roughly 9.5% of all total shows I have ever watched (or at least attempted to watch) have been Mostly Good, 13% have been Moderately Okay, 54% have been either entirely Forgettable or some mix of good + bad that lands them right in the Neutral Middle, 15.6% have been Mostly Bad, 6.6% have been Bad (but in an interesting way), and 0.9% have been Terribly Bad.
Additionally, I didn't even get past the first two episodes of about 27% of the total.
Sooo, discounting ones I didn't finish, my total TV shows ever watched in my life would be about 154 (maybe give or take a few, assuming I might have forgotten some from very long ago).
But instead of entire life, let's just say this is the total for 'About 20 Years' (so, not counting very early childhood when I likely wouldn't remember things I saw/have no detailed recollection of them (like for example, I'm sure at some point when I was like 4yrs old I must have seen an episode of Spongebob or something, but I have zero distinct memories of it, can't quote anything of it, and barely recall the premise - so I don't count it on the list, etc.)).
In that case, 154 divided by 20 would be roughly 7.7 shows a year.
Which is actually surprisingly low considering that I often have stuff on in the background for hours whilst I make sculptures and do costumes and stuff (maybe I should have also marked some distinction between 'things I fully paid attention to' and 'things I kind of half listened to whilst sculpting', but that would further split the categories too much probably lol), but I guess a lot of that is youtube videos or random documentaries, so .. eh.. maybe I get it being lower.
Now, doing the same thing for movies-
Movies ~ Rank 5 (highest) - 4 movies (3.4% of total) ~ Rank 4 (mid-high) - 12 movies (10.3% of total) ~ Rank 3 (neutral/default/meh) - 91 movies (78.4% of total) ~ Rank 2 (mid low) - 8 movies (6.8% of total) ~ Rank 1 (low but interesting) - 1 movie (0.8% of total) ~ Rank 0 (irredeemably low) - none in this category (0%)
That makes 116 for a Total (Actually Remembered) Movies Watched In Lifetime (Or At Least In 20 Years).
116 divided by 20 is roughly 5 or 6 movies a year (I feel this has probably been skewed though by adding everything since like elementary school onwards, as I remember a lot more movies from child/teen years.. Whereas, the past 3 years I feel like I've barely seen maybe even 5 movies?? lol). I also have "Didn't Finish" marked on 18 of them. Which means I quit halfway through about 15% of the total movies.
So, a for broader summary stuff..
I seem to be less forgiving to movies than tv shows, by far. Which makes sense to me, I guess, because I love elaboration and details, so "short form" things that only last an hour or two are often lost on me a bit. My biggest complaint with movies is indeed usually walking away just wishing there had been more exposition, more scenes where characters are doing nothing, more "mindless bantering" conversations, more Quiet Downtime and Lore Elaboration and so on lol, so... of course most 1-2hr films end up feeling a bit Not Enough To Draw My Interest/Nothingy to me.
If you count 5 and 4 as "like" and rankings 2 to 0 as "dislike", then for TV shows I at least somewhat liked 48 of them, and at least somewhat disliked 47 of them.. So it's almost exactly the same lol. I'm just about equally as likely to find something bad as I am to find something redeeming about it. But overall, the largest chance is that I just won't really care much for it at all and it will be tossed into the 'neutral' pile, forgotten forever. Movies have a bit better of a balance, "liking" 16 of them, and "disliking" only 9 of them. So I'm slightly more likely to enjoy a movie than to find it annoying - though still VASTLY more likely to just not find it anything in particular, possibly not even finishing it.
ANYWAY.. this is vague and literally pointless, but like I said, I just really find information fun. Like my document where I've rated every apple flavor I've ever tried (like 40 of them now?), or reviewed every oreo flavor (32?), or ranking data from my entire 10 years of Trying To Make Friends process (out of 100 people, roughly 8% chance of a moderate compatibility, 3% chance of high), or etc. etc.. I love to have random pointless things to analyze I suppose lol.
I doubt anyone tracks things in their life in this same exact way, but I'd be interested in hearing any at least somewhat similar data !!! (like, how many TV shows you watch a year on average, and what percentage of those you like vs. dislike (if you keep track of that sort of thing), etc.)). I guess it might be easier with movies, since I think some people use those websites where you curate a list of movies you've seen and you can rate them or something, so maybe the numbers are already available on those places. :0
#maybe this is my version of spotify wrapped lol.. Lifetime Media Google Doc Wrapped.. kind of.. except I'm not going over specific titles.#I can't do this with music since I rarely EVER look for new music or add to my Youtube To MP3 folder library as I just don't really#listen to music that often. When I'm working (the majority of when I seek background noise) I need like.. people's talking voices#for some reason. Just instruments and singing are not distracting enough to me to work as background noise because theyre#almost TOO in the background if that makes sense? like if I put music on then I just tune it out and it's virtually no different#than if I were daydreaming stream of consciousness thoughts in an entirely quiet room lol. And I can't really do it with books since#essentially 100% of what I read is non-fiction. usually about some specific subject or academic topic OR stuff like#1800s magazines or cookbooks or historical people's diaries. Which is not really.. the type of thing I would#rank as easily I guess? like 'ooh yeah putting the sociology textbook in my top 5 hee hee right next to the 1920s radio recipes book' lol.#Then for games... I just sadly dont play enough of them. I've been banned from new games as I've told myself I cant play anyting#long form (no rpgs or etc) until I actually finish MY OWN game first - to keep me from wasting time. so on average#I play... 0 new games a year. ToT... I do play the sims sometimes but that's really all (which is not a new game at all since#I've been playing it on and off for years). Thus I guess movies/TV are really the only things that make sense#to collect this sort of information on. I could do youtube videos I guess also but that seems kind of strange like...#giving a rating to every single video I watch in a ranked list lol.. Especially since I would say a good 85% of the time#they are exclusively background noise whilst I'm working on something or cleaning the house or etc. and not things I pay serious attention#to. There are only a few specific topics/types/creators of videos I watch where I'm ACTUALLY sitting in front of a screen paying#direct attention to the content (usually when it's educational or political things). Everything else is too mindless to even rank.#ANYWAY... ever analyzing my little hermit Weird Relationship To Media (in the sense of seemingly not processing or getting the same#things out of it as many other seem to). I think that can contribute sometimes to the whole difficulty socializing and stuff#since our culture is very centered around media consumption generally speaking. People want to talk about The New Movie that came#out or The Big TV Show Of The Year. and for me it's like.. highly likely I just plain have NOT seen it. Or if i have. statistically#I most likely was entirely ambivalent if not slightly negative towards it lol. Which just kind of takes the steam out of a 'fun' 'casual'#conversation and you seem like a bit of a bummer if most of your only feedback is either 'idk what that is' or 'oh yea... i did#see that one.... i didnt like it all that much though... I think it'd be better with elves in it.. and 7 hours longer..'' lol..#Which I am not disliking things in a 'grr i hate it bc its popular'/just to be contrarian way. I actually dislike that mindset/find it#silly (by striving so hard to be counterculture you are thus still defining yourself by the whims of external culture - just in the#opposite direction. but are still just as preoccupied with the mainstream (going against it) as everyone else. etc. lol..)) In my#case I think it IS just having niche hyperspecific tastes.. for example- it peeves me when cell phones are in media bc I dont want to be#reminded at ALL of the real world. so.. cross off anything set in modern times. so on & etc. Judging all things by these weird criteria lol
