Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini Resort 2021
The houndstooth pattern can be traced back to the Bronze Age, but it really became popular for fashion in the 1930s.

Drabble - Tale
It's Argyle's Fandom Cheese Plate - Day 26! | Fandom: Jungle Cruise (2021) | Pairing: MacGregor/OMC
It's a slow night at the Savoy, so there's plenty of seating away from where MacGregor's been drowning his sorrows, alone—
He meets the fellow's – handsome, brown – gaze in the mirror behind the bar, then sees him spot the damned tattoo, and quickly decides whether to A) lie; B) lie creatively; C) tell the truth.
"If you're wondering," MacGregor offers, touching his cheek, "I got it in the jungle."
"Good lord, on holiday?"
"Hardly. No, I was held by Amazonian natives. Friendly. The Prussians in hot pursuit, however…"
The fellow scoots closer, already taken.
And MacGregor motions for another round.

JUNGLE CRUISE (2021) Grade: D+
Overall boring, no charm, little chemistry amongst the actors, predictable.
No memorable scenes or lines.

Just finished watching Jungle Cruise with my family—all in all, it was…fine. A solid 6/10. Story was alright, though it left some significant plot holes. Pacing was pretty good. There was one twist I was pleasantly surprised by. Characterization, while not terrible, was pretty vague and relied on established tropes to hold them up. While Emily Blunt’s character wasn’t the best-written, I do have to give them credit for not making her belittle the male characters to try to strengthen her character by comparison. I would complain that it’s never explained why she can hold her own in a fight, but that’s never explained for any of the characters, so I suppose that’s not really a fair complaint. I laughed once or twice. Action scenes seemed pretty well-choreographed, though that’s not my area of expertise, so who’s to say. The Rock keeps a domesticated leopard on his river boat and manages to keep it locked in his cabin for a significant portion of the movie (we’re told that he’s kept numerous animals of this caliber on the boat over the years), and it’s never explained how he’s able to do this. The romance between The Rock’s character and Emily’s is fine, if a bit lukewarm and underdeveloped. Overall, felt like they were trying to do The Mummy on a river, which is kind of hilarious given I spent ten minutes trying to convince my family to watch The Mummy before they decided on this one. Anyway, final verdict: Jungle Cruise didn’t inspire any strong feelings in me coming away from it…aside from a wish I’d watched The Mummy.

My Best and Worst Films of 2021
So yeah it probably seems a bit weird that I'm posting my best/worst films of 2021 list in 2025, well there's a reason for that.
Since for my 2020 list I had managed to cover both theatrical and streaming releases, I had planed on doing the same from then on. Unfortunately due to a combination of procrastination and me finally managing to get a job after donkey's years of searching, I've fallen a bit behind on streaming. But it was starting to get a bit ridiculous so I've decided to say fuck it and post rough versions of my 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 lists with only the theatrical releases so far, and I'll just add the streaming ones on in italic as I try and catch up over the year.
Hopefully I'll have the lists done by the end of the year. Hopefully.
So anyway 2021... well the cinemas have finally reopened after the lockdown ended, and the local cinema (The Light) that had been announced since before me and my grandparents moved to the area has finally opened and will be my regular cinema from now on (with some exceptions like if a film I want to see isn't showing there). Plus several months in they introduced MyLight Premier membership allowing anyone who signs up for £15.99 free access for any films showing, a discount on food and invites to members only screenings and previews, I naturally signed up like a shot.
Anyway I saw 57 new theatrical releases in 2021 (which ones - along with any streaming releases - can be found on my Letterboxd page: ‎(letterboxd.com/firebirdmaximus/list/2021-releases).
And once again a note to non-UK viewers, as with previous years, since I’m English and live in England and subsequently watch films at cinemas in England, this list will be going by UK release dates so If you see a film on the list that you swore was from 2020 it was probably not released here until 2021, contrarywise If your surprised that a particular movie from this year is not on the list it might not have been released here til 2022.
If you see a streaming film here on my list and it's not in italics, that means it probably got a limited theatrical release somewhere in my area and that's how I saw it.
