i’m finally watching DEH 2021 and it’s not as bad as everyone has said, so far.
although in an attempt to be grounded it’s a little soul-less. there’s no colour or theatrics or movement. the music brings emotion but the editing and production design and lighting feels a little stock standard and bland. some of this might be because of the COVID. the sets are a little bare and empty but it’s also the colour choices. like the show is so vibrant (and blue) and the movie school sets are (too red) not.
to be clear, i am enjoying it though. Ben is not as old looking as i thought.

I am so on board with the ''when you make a movie musical add a new song'' thing
Because 90% of time they are SOO GOOD!
Examples:
Suddenly and Suddenly (Reprise) from Les Misérables (2012)
The Anonymous Ones from Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
there's probably more that I just haven't watched so
just, like, keep doing this!

→ "Henry Butash On The Making Of The Atlantic City Story With Broadway Stars Mike Faist And Jessica Hecht"
“I think where Mike’s so great is just, even when he’s not delivering dialogue, he’s just giving such a strong performance with his looks. You can always feel him thinking when you look at him—you can see him thinking. Which is sort of the mark of really good film acting, at least.”

Today is a beautiful addition to the musical. they should’ve revealed earlier in the song that it was Conor even though the audience suspected it. it’s a nice hopeful genuine song rather than Evan’s ones which are based on lies.

→ Naheem Garcia On Playing Tashi Duncan’s Father In Challengers Starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist
“They couldn’t have asked for better actors; all three of them were amazing. You’re talking about one of them who was in West Side Story and the other from The Crown. These are top actors and they’re young people. Young but they’re at the top of the game right now – and they have a nice chemistry.”

Fun fact about Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, Roger Sharpe actually played the Pinball scenes in Mike's stead—except, the winning shot of the film. Mike Faist pulled the plunger and got it on the first take (and then never again afterwards). That take was the one they used for the film.
