Thanksgiving

As a crisis counselor, I encounter at least one person a week who has lost their home, been disowned by their family, or don’t know where their next meal will come from.

For most, all those things feel like a necessity, but they aren’t always guaranteed. What we take for granted the most we rarely realize comes as a luxury to so many, some who you may even know.

This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for all those things. I’m thankful for having people I love and who love me back, for the roof over my head, and for the food in my stomach.

I don’t have everything, and for some I may not even have a lot. But I have enough, and that’s more than some people can say.

The holidays can be complicated, try to take a step back and be grateful for the little things.

Earlier today we had an amazing tele-class with a great group of conscious individuals that are choosing to embrace this time of self isolation and to better themselves in the process... The best part of this experience was the elevation and the grounded, centered feeling that everyone left the class with. This weekend I’ll be attending another funeral for #friend I lost to #suicide . He was #flawless - full of #goodness #sunshine #kindness #empathy #positivity #and apparently #pain . It’s hard to accept that none of us saw it and as a #crisiscounselor I can’t believe this is the 5th time I’ve faced this situation, not counting my #grandfather. Have you ever heard of the phrase passive suicidal ideation? Suicidal ideation or suicidal thinking can be either active or passive- active being desire to die paired with a plan, while passive is the desire without a set plan. Like @shadmoss tweeting “I feel like jumping off this balcony”. Many people responded to the tweet calling him overdramatic, but I just see a person going through a rough time crying for help. Talking to someone about suicide won’t  give them ideas or ‘push them over the edge’, so if you suspect someone is suicidal, listen to them, believe them, encourage them to get help and help them to do so.
