This is a question from @crippled-lavender 's cripple ask game! 10.] what is something you want other people to know about your physical disability/disabilities? You can't tell if someone is disabled, even physically disabled, just by looking. Lots of people, because strangers usually decide on or two features to judge you by, will not notice my deformed bones until they're in their face, like slow acting body horror.

I use a wheelchair about half the time. Twenty five percent is canes or crutches, and the rest is unassisted. Truthfully, it's not because I don't need it, but even if it's extremely painful or will make my situation worse later, I'll walk unassisted to 'be quick' especially for others, or avoid unwanted attention or ableism that I just can't take any more of that day. I still often limp, hop, or lean. My deformities are permanent and don't disappear. But as a society with no mobility aid, even though I am still visible in suffering, struggling, and beong physically different, many people suddenly decide I'm abled, or 'invisibly disabled.' It's not invisible, moron, it's just not presenting in a way you find familiar or acceptable and you are unwilling to see it. Just because I'm not using a mobility aid right then also doesn't mean 'I'm better.' What it sometimes means: 1) I was late to work and am so used to being in pain that I forgot my cane at home. I'll hop, limp, lean, sit, swear, and use carts as walkers all day. 2) I didn't want anyone (those specific coworkers/employees, etc) staring and judging me today so limping, sitting, not using the restroom at all, not moving for breaks, using carts as walkers is somehow less embarrassing because they don't take it out on me then. 3) I didn't want an unsolicited 'is he cripple enough/the right way' evaluation from a stranger today, any stanger, abled or disabled, because you better believe I've had some shitty disabled people interactions. 4) I felt bad asking my assist to move my cheap, heavy wheelchair to and from our tiny backseat for this trip to the grocery store, so I'll go for the car ride but stay in the car. No, it doesn't matter we are now going to stop for food, other things, etc. I can't leave the car. 5) I didn't want a friend or relative to leave me behind in a store again ('it'll just be quicker!') One of my diseases is autoimmune arthritis. I've given up telling people what it is by name and instead describe it. I then get an appropriate 'that's awful' (it is, really is) or 'ow, that's brutal' (yes, you got it) instead of getting it dismissed as 'aches and pains' that 'everyone has.' It shouldn't have to be said, but my style-my haircut, my clothes, my shoes-don't magically make me not disabled. Being goth doesn't magically make me invulnerable to illness or mean I'm looking for attention by coopting a medical device. Believe it or not, as of 2023, some people have enough independent personality to choose their own clothes and be disabled at the same time! I actually don't talk about disability 24/7. You just hear it a lot because the world is not fucking accessible. I'll never not be crippled. Even if they cured my diseases tomorrow, I have permanent deformities from them. Me not using an aid is just... me not using an aid, for better or worse. It doesn't even mean it's a good day. This has helped me not judge people as harshly as I might have once, and that's good. It hurts even worse though when people assume I don't need accessibility or am not disabled, though. Disclaimer: I never have gotten asks (that haven't been personal attacks) so I just enjoy answering the questions. Please keep in mind the original post specifies that crippled (physically disabled only) are invited to use the specific questions.

Give Me a Character

How I feel about Jason? I love him. He's my boy. He's a martyr. He's a cautionary tale. He's always been doomed since the day he was born. The very universe itself conspires against him because readers wanted him to die. So he dies. Again and again, in every universe, he dies, and he fights, and he tries to make the world a better place, and he wants to be kind, but he is doomed, always, every time, even when he comes back. It's tragic, and I hate what they've done to him, but without it, he wouldn't be the same person. He wouldn't be my blorbo.

JoyFire (Jason Todd x Roy Harper x Koriand'r) is my OTP for this guy. And I will say it out loud, I also enjoy JayTim and JayDick. I like JoyFire because it's like… the family you choose. Each of them has trauma about getting left behind in some sense. So they'll never leave each other. Even if Jason's a jerk sometimes, he will never, ever leave either of them hanging when it matters even a little. And they're the same for him. I like JayTim because Tim thinks Jason is so annoying, and Jason thinks Tim is so smart and capable, and so there's a little bit of pining in there? Especially in the opposite way one would expect by looking at them. But Tim knows that Jason's smart, and I kind of ignore a bunch of the ugliness that happened right around Under the Red Hood with them, to be honest. Not completely, but some of it. I think that Tim can admire Jason's ingenuity and persistence even when he's rolling his eyes at him, and I think that Jason thinks so highly of Tim, even when he refuses to ever say it out loud. And as for JayDick, maybe some of it is just me smashing my favorite dolls together. I freaking love Dick Grayson. Who doesn't? And I freaking love Jason, and they have a complicated relationship, but they love each other, whether you want it to be brotherly, friendly, or romantic. They love each other, and I'll take that in any flavor I can get it.

Non-romantic OTP is also Jason and Dick. You cannot tell me these two don't share the braincell when they're in a room together. But also, they can be hyper competent together. If they're both motivated and working together, they can do anything. Including building a heated roof pool out of cardboard, a carbon metallic alloy, and a "borrowed" shop vacuum.

(Also gotta mention that I adore father-son pair Bruce and Jason. The two of them are just so wonderful together, how Jason brings such joy into Bruce's life and Bruce just wants Jason to heal and realize his dreams, ah!)

Unpopular opinion about him? Willis was a good dad. [lifts a megaphone] Willis Todd was a good dad! He was a victim of a broken system and turned to crime because it was the only means he had to provide for his family! Any time he laid a hand on Jason or Catherine was still unjustified, but it was because Willis was a deeply frustrated and scared man who had no system or room to handle his negative emotions or feel accomplishment in his life! [puts down the megaphone] Domestic abuse is never okay, and that goes the same if a woman is the abuser. But Willis was not an asshole, he was a poverty-stricken petty criminal with the most minimal support system. He loved Jason, and he loved Catherine, and he tore himself up to do his best to provide for them all the way to the end. His story is a sad one, he was not the villain, and I hate it when people say Jason is better off without him and didn't mourn him or feel bad about his death.

There's a lot of things I wished hadn't happened to him in canon, but most of all, I hate what Zur En Arrh did to him.* It was absolutely terrible, and then the fact that nobody was left to give Jason any support at all after the fact because they were all chasing Zur really gets to me. The way that one panel just showed him trembling, so small, alone, asking anybody at all for help…. It breaks my heart. Because it's always like that for him. He ends up alone, on his own, because he's the black sheep and he's mad about it, and he defends people who others leave behind. And it breaks my heart in a way that actually very truly makes me sad. Because there are people who think he deserves it. Including the writers.

i think the sketch looks silly and goofy and funny so i find it important to share with you the mere presence of the faces i drew on it. i drew it on top of the boxes without staying inside its borders because i find my proportions can get wonky if i draw them cropped in a restricted space. and I feel trapped otherwise and i will draw BAD!!! give me spaceeeee to go wild!!!!

very low res speedpaint because truth is the canvas was much bigger than the space where my comic was placed. i didnt account when exporting my timelapse in 720px that that tiny space would look so pixelated ... but it's able to be percieved, so its okay.

(i will now comment on my process and it is not brief sorry)

usually i would try to clean up my sketches and figure out what goes on top before jumping into linework, but since there are multiple panels and drawings i chose to jump into inking right away for the sake of brevity. i just went in with a brush that uses pen pressure and drew what was needed. i added extra line thickness and contrast in areas around the face because it helps direct your eyes there more easily that way.

according to her equipment rei has a chain belt but i only remembered it existed once I was going to color, and i did not like that discovery... I chose to ignore it to maintain my peace. i already have the color palettes for these characters figured out, and i didnt really want to think about a new element at the moment www I tend to overthink those things a lot so i skipped it

the rest is rather straightforward! not that anything else wasn't, but in here i could turn my brain off and sing. linework and sketching require mumbling so i cannot turn my brain off. just block in the characters with a solid color so i can have a mask (something along those lines,) where the color can stay inside. then just color in !!!

Base colors just had slight cell shading on the skin, and for the hair i airbrush a bit of the skincolor in low opacity near the forehead... I'm not sure what it means, but i can look at the faces easier with it somehow. i like the gentle subtlety it adds even if you cant really tell. it makes things look nice.

background was just me blocking in the color of the wall and floor, shade the wall a bit, then slap a noise and free use wood texture on top. work smarter not harder ! yet it took a bit to make it look stylistically fitting with the characters, and even now i think bottom middle panel looks odd. whatever!!!

for the middle panel i thought itd be funny if the background was a solid silly and colorful one to contrast the next panel's sketchy black one. a contrast to how the word widow is seen. on that note my handwritting is not pointy. i gaslighted my hand into thinking that it was indeed pointy in that moment so i could write "not-yet dead person" in letters that didn't seem cute. my hand did not fall for it but it complied anyway

that's basically it! I'm not sure what else i could say that doesn't feel barebones because it really is that straightforward. if you're curious I used clip studio paint for this. only special brush used was for linework (a brush named Lemon Brush), the rest used were just the default. my computer gets the least credit. it was trying to convince me a 20mb file was going to nuke it all the time and hardly let me save multiple times so i do not appreciate it

Cripplepunk ask game: 10

This is a hard one because there's so much that most people don't know, but... I think something people probably SHOULD know is that partial paralysis isn't just a weakness in that part of your body. It's a disconnect, your coordination doesn't work because somewhere along the lines the part of your brain that is supposed to deal with that just isn't doing it. There are often movements you just can't do at all no matter how hard you try to tell your body to do it. There's just a brick wall where an effortless movement should be.

A way I show this to people when I try to explain, is that I just can't do finger guns with my left hand. It just will not do it. I can't close part of my hand but not all of it, my fingers don't straighten all of the way. When I try to do it I can curl some of my fingers slightly more than the others, but my hand just twitches and shakes and won't go any further. It's so much more than just a weakness.

As far as I know Arthur and Delilah are the creators of the show in-universe! I don't know MUCH about them given that there isn't much ON them yet (I hope there's more soon aghhh) but from what I can gather, I think Delilah is maybe the start of something bad that happened, maybe how the ichor operation got started in the first place, and Arthur is the skeptic of them that wants to know what she's up to. Like. 'You said he has friends. I'll need them' from Delilah sounds so suspicious??? And Arthur writing that '[Delilah] reassured me that what happened wasn't [Delilah's] fault'?? 15. what does disability pride mean to you?

I think disability pride for me means having a space and a time where me and other disabled people can be unapologetically disabled. I think a lot of us spend so much of our time struggling to be in a world that wasn't made for us and I think having dedicated time where we can loudly speak about how that affects us is so important. I think also using this time to loudly speak about how much we love ourselves and how hard we work to love ourselves and allow ourselves to take up space is fundamental to disability pride.

for me it's also about community and learning. finding others like me and learning from those who are still in my community but are very different from me.
