What you can see over there is the psychiatric hospital where my mother was admitted. In front of her is a deadly poisonous oleander.
However, as of December 09, this tree had been felled. So this photo is the shadow of this tree.

If my mom sees a significant amount of blood she gets lightheaded, and has fainted on some occasions. Once it happened when we were kids, I wasn't there to witness it but I heard the story from my dad. Basically my brothers, around 7 or 8 at the time, were playing outside while my mom was making their lunch, and she accidentally cut her finger. It wasn't anything serious, but it drew a fair bit of blood and she passed out. My dad saw this and rushed over, but he didn't really know what to do so he just sort of started slapping her to wake her up (not recommended, but he had no idea and panicked)
At that exact moment my brothers both came in from playing, and all they saw was our mom unconscious on the floor and our dad slapping her. So, like, without even saying a word to each other they both just INSTANTLY start whaling on him, like, full blown attack mode to defend our mom. Which obviously didn't help the situation, but she did wake up and everything was fine.
Now our dad says that he's actually really glad they attacked him over what they thought was going on, because it means he raised good boys. And I still think that's true, they're very good boys.

Big Stone Gap Dollar General: I was told by hundreds of people this place is running a crazy house from their location. Both of the blonde managers here will flirt with anyone who comes through the door. One blonde who works there is always outside smoking and on the phone while Melissa Pennington is in the back flirting with customers and workers. Now the reviews that I have found about the Big Stone Gap Dollar General have been all bad. This is the worst place to shop in Virginia. Melissa Pennington makes Virginia DG not a good place to shop and she is rude to customers. DG needs to fire her. No Doubt!

Words for My Daughter // Hayden Carruth
Alas, that earth's mere measure strains our blood And makes more airy still this parentage. The bond is all pretending, and you sleep When my affections leap And gasp at old hope vainly in my night's cage.
Dear marvelous alien snippet, yes, you move Like a down-raining cloud in my mind, a bird Askim on low planes under lightning thought, An alter-image caught In gossamer seed, my most elusive word.
There must be some connection, more than mood, The yearning wit of loneliness, and mor Than meets the law on that certificate. Strangers do not create Alliances so deep and dark and sore.
Yet we are strangers. I remember you When you began, a subtle soft machine; And you remember me, no, not at all; Or maybe you recall A vacancy where someone once was seen.
I can address you only in my mind, Or, what's the same, in this untouching verse. We are the faceless persons who exist Airily, as a gist Of love to warp the loves that we rehearse.
Strangers we are, a father and a daughter, This Hayden and this Martha. And this song, Which turns so dark when I had meant it light, Speaks not at all of right And not at all, since they are dim, of wrong.
Distance that leaves me powerless to know you Preserves you from my love, my hurt. You fare Far from this room hidden in the cold north; Nothing of me goes forth To father you, lost daughter, but a prayer.
That some small wisdom always may endure Amidst your weariness; that lovers may Be kind to you; that beauty may arouse You; that the crazy house May never, never be your home: I pray.

Tel Aviv
The opposite of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv is modern, secular, flat, and filled with scantily clad bronzed beautiful people enjoying its lengthy beaches. It is one of the buzziest cities I’ve ever been to, home to seemingly endless wonderful places to eat, and a constant stream of people walking, running, cycling or scooting around. The main attraction for many are the kilometres of beaches, each with…

wishing people would understand (and advertisers would stop giving the impression) that herbal remedies don't actually work like fantasy potions where you have a Symptom and they magically target that Symptom specifically-- they work exactly like pharmaceutical medicines but at a less concentrated scale, and it can interact poorly with them if you are already using them.
ashwagandha doesn't "lower your anxiety", it reduces your cortisol levels, which can in turn lower your blood pressure and interact with other adrenal and BP meds. ginkgo doesn't "help you think", it dilates your blood vessels and is an anti-platelet, which increases cerebral bloodflow but can interact with other circulatory meds. grapefruit seed extract is an incredible antifungal but it will inhibit enzymes that break down many types of medication and lead to blood toxicity of those meds.
i've worked in this industry since before insta/tiktok was a major force in advertising for it and i've watched the swing from people generally being educated about this niche thing they have come in to buy to "i saw on tiktok that this will give me energy"
.... will it? have you had bloodwork done? are you adequately absorbing your nutrition? are you getting sunlight? stop being scammed by symptom-centric buzzwords. anything that promises it will give you energy or help you focus or whatever else hinges entirely on your body chemistry fitting very certain criteria and a lot of people end up disappointed when that cordyceps did nothing for them when it turns out they're low on stomach acid and not synthesizing their B vitamins correctly or something else that is way above my paygrade to determine.
the american healthcare system is a shitshow and people often have no choice but to take their treatments into their own hand, but "natural remedies" want your money just as bad as "big pharma" and it's up to the individual to do their epistemological due diligence when treating themselves. godbless.

the funeral (a grotesque display of two queens’ grief, forced on them against their will) being interjected by images of aegon beating blood into a bloody ruin says something about how women’s grief is exploited and paraded around as a virtue while male grief is only allowed to exist in conjunction with violence.
Tumblr media
female sorrow is expected to be public, dignified, and even noble, it serves as a symbol of quiet strength and resilience. otto uses it as a tool to gain sympathy for their cause. notice how he forced alicent and helaena into it, while he allowed aegon not to participate. wouldn‘t the king being at the funeral send a powerful message? yes, it would. but otto looks at aegon with contempt, the other councilmen and alicent do not know what to do with his tears. the realm cannot be allowed to see the king grieve. not like this.
Tumblr media
male grief is denied its own space and validity unless it manifests in aggressive or destructive acts. aegon realizes this to some degree too— he lashes out publicly by killing the rat catchers. he shows his grief by being violent, by spilling blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the toxicity of it all is very effectively shown at the end when aegon is crying by himself. did he retreat there to be alone and finally let it all out? his mother is either letting him have that moment alone or she’s deeply uncomfortable with it and chooses to leave. no matter what motivated alicent in acting the way she did— the moment still reveals how male vulnerability is something people fear. it shows that even the most human expressions of pain are not acceptable for some.
