chapter 145 thoughts!
what even was this chapter, y'all. i'm getting a migraine.
While it certainly wasn't actively bad, it basically hits on enough of the issues I've been having with the Movie Arc that if you've been reading my chapter reviews lately, you could probably write this one yourself. Weird pacing, skipping over interesting parts of the movie, continued framing of AQRB as a shallow gag and failing to follow on any of the implied development from or literally any referenced fallout of the kiss in 143? It's all here, babes. It would ultimately just be boring and redundant for me to go over all that at length again, so I won't.
I will however say that I'm pretty disappointed we're blasting through what had the potential to be some really interesting bits of postmortem characterization for Ai, even filtered through 15YL. I don't mind the manga breezing past scenes we saw firsthand but like… how did Ai react when she realized she was pregnant? How did she feel, especially given that Spica once again emphasized her longing for a family of her own? IDK. The way the story is suddenly jolting forwards in these last few chapters and skipping such huge chunks of Ai's life ultimately feels very strange and I don't know what to make of it yet.
Everyone reacting to Crow Girl's acting was pretty funny though I'm kind of exhausted with Ruby's Gaga-For-Oniichansensei Gag Character flanderization. IDK if my tolerance for it is just decreasing or if it really is amping up, but at least in the 125-137 stretch I at least got the sense that they could be in the same room and have a normal conversation but ever since 139, it feels that bit more relentless. I imagine this would be less irritating if we knew how the aftermath of 143 had played out but it really seems like the manga is going to drag this out until we're all old and grey.
THAT SAID, this chapter does confirm that Aqua's hoshigan stayed white after that chapter and… eh. Who even knows what that means lol. It does at least imply that his talk with Ruby has brought him back to Baseline Aqua but Baseline Aqua is still a guy with every single mental illness on planet earth so I don't know if that's the world's biggest W quite yet. It certainly implies an improvement over double black hoshigan but… again, with Aqua being so totally cut off from the readers this whole arc and no idea of what happened in the aftermath of 143, it's impossible to make a meaningful guess as to wtf is going on with Aqua right now.
Oh yeah, uh. This chapter also I guess constitutes the reveal of how the AQRB reincarnation happened. I guess LMAO. Honestly, I don't have much to say about it other than it feels like a bit of an anticlimax for me? The idea works fine, the execution just left me… idk. Whelmed at best, underwhelmed at most. I feel like this backstory and the implied deep fondness for GRSR -> AQRB it implies doesn't really like up with the personality she displays in the Private arc but like, I kind of feel like she was tossed into the story without Akasaka having a clear idea as to what her role was even going to turn into so maybe that's not a surprise LOL
I will say I'm glad this seems to quash the theory that Aqua and Ruby were secretly capital-G Gods, instead framing it as a Tsuru no Ongaeshi type return of kindness to two otherwise mundane people. There was some fun fan theorizing around the idea, but for me personally, Oshi no Ko is most interesting when it focuses on that aspect of the story Akasaka highlighted in an interview recently, of human relationships being warped by the entertainment industry and I think an explosion of the emotional stakes to the cosmic scale of AQRB (or tbh any of the characters) being Secretly Gods All Along would be a bit of a shark jump for me and would really shift away from what I like about the series most.
That's kind of it for this one…! Not really a lot to say about this chapter, which is why most of this review was me explaining why I didn't have a lot to say about it.

Satan is the head of Hell's judicial system and calls himself "the law." In the oldest religious sources where he appeared, Satan was the divine prosecutor. God is "The Judge" and is usually defending humanity against accusations while Satan is "The Adversary" or "The Prosecutor" and is accusing humanity of some wrong-doing and demands punishment. It usually starts with a test so that the truth can be established. In the Bible, this dynamic can be seen seen in two events, "The Book of Job" and "The temptation of Christ". Its later Flanderization of character of Satan as ultimate evil that led to the first event being regarded as a bet between God and Satan and the latter event as evil, sucker's bet towards Christ (ruling all kingdoms of the material world vs eternal life and salvation of mankind). It is his cosmic role to test the morality of the characters but it was twisted to that of The Corrupter, possibly because he was really good at his job and too many people failed his tests.
Nah, Satan is plenty evil in job he's more than a prosecutor and wants to see him in misery and ruin to make him renounce God.

1, 4, 13, 14 and 22 for the 🔥 ask game! Bloodborne fandom
1- You know already because i am an npc with 4 dialogue lines at max and i keep complaining about all the same stuff LMAO. But yeah. Definitely Maria. The majority of the fandom sees her as either 1) outright heroic or 2) as tragic but not in a way that gives her agency but in a "oooh le poor manipulated woman who didn't know what was going on" while still trying to potray her as a girlboss who takes no shit from no one which at best makes her look inconsistent at worst makes her look as dumb as rocks. Let your female chatacters be messy y'all!!. This is the one i have the most gripe on but also i dislike the "gehrman is a misogynistic creep who is worse than anyone else in the whole world because he had a mental breakdown after maria's death no matter the fact that there is a character who at best is involved in three different genocides." I also loathe the "Willem was right and did nothing wrong and didn't order the hamlet massacre". Another fan unfavourite of mine is when adeline is reduced as maria's flower loving cottagecore gf. But ig that's how fandom flanderization works 😔😔😔
4- Eeeeh,,,, i am really block trigger happy, so i either block 1) when someone is being rude as shit in the tags for having opinions different than theirs or 2) when a person's content starts to annoy me so much that i can't just scroll past it anymore
13- MARIAAAAAA--‐-- most maria fans just suck out any of her interesting and nuanced traits to reduce her to simply "rude girlboss whose favourite hobby is kissing adeline and also maybe cries about what she's done. If we actually remember that the fishing hamlet massacre was wrong" also brador but i wont go onto a rant about it lest a lightbulb explode in my room. Either way, for any character of bb. Please please please write the adult characters as adults and not le sillay teenagers they're all at best in their early thirties,,,,, (and also don't reduce them to a single fandom accepted trait)
14- Idk for this one i don't have much to complain about cause i am super selective about them 😭😭 I'd say the extreme hornyness but for me it's a bonus lol
22- Hmmmm,,,, it's a bit complicated for me to say? I guess that lately the whole cosmic horror aspect of it has been really downplayed- which is a shame if you compare the bb cosmic horror with the lovecraft one and how you see that bb can also work as a critique of lovecraft's racism and xenophobia. Right now the most common interpr is the femininity one which i am not opposed to but also one can hear it so many times (and without any analysis- just the same thing repeated by big youtubers without any spin of it) before getting sick + people who are super fervent about it keep insisting it's the ONLY interpretation which makes it soo annoying. Guys. Guys. Things can have more than one meaning if you want to act intellectual about it AT LEAST recognize the number one rule in academia/literary analysis 😭

✨Pt. 2-The Reveal✨
(This post is directly following the previous one on this blog)
Well, it’s finally time to answer the question as to who my S.pongeB.ob S/I is dating. I did also mention this was going to be a gush post, and that might run long. So, without further ado, here they are:
Tumblr media
“Yep, that’s him!” I say, with my face equally as red. Mr. Eugene H. Krabs. This is a crush spanning multiple decades at this point. I wanna kiss this man so bad it makes me look stupid.
Disclaimer: This next part will be discussing the Early Era version of Mr. Krabs. A more concrete reference would be between S2 to around S4/S5. No flanderization, no real canon interference to be had.
~Gushing Ahoy!~
Eugene is many things. Stingy. Red. A silver fox. A decorated and respected military man. But the best thing about him by far is how strong a characterization he has in the early seasons. Gruff, stubborn, clever, dedicated father and father figure to P.earl and S.pongeB.ob respectively. There are moments where he can be less than ideal, but nothing egregious. Plus, he’s voiced by C.lancy B.rown, a well-seasoned actor both on screen and behind the microphone.
As for physical traits? Again, his voice immediately comes to mind. The range alone is impressive! Eugene can go from a high-pitched panic to a low, deep rumble at the drop of a hat, and it’s so GOOD.💕💕💕 I know the ‘MOAR’ scene is a meme now, but there’s one shot where he’s lying on a table like a pinup model and I just-mmmmmm 🫣👀 And he seems like such a huggable shape too! Nice and round, perfect for Selene to wrap her arms around. 🥰🥰🥰 Not to mention strong! He did kick major tail at the Fry Cook Games and can manage to flip the entire Krusty Krab around in one swift move.
The impact Eugene has had on my life is very significant. His quotes are the ones I parrot the most out of any other SB character! I was over the moon when Cosmic Shake came out and heard him speak, which more than made up for BFBB: Rehydrated. AND they gave him funny lines?! A++, 10/10, 5 stars out of 5!
In summary, Mr. K.rabs (within certain parameters) is a sweet, caring, persevering entrepreneur/father/mentor and very handsome to boot. Selene definitely thinks the world of him and loves him immensely. ❤️

Spongebob: Cosmic Shake
Tumblr media
There I was in the store when I spotted a copy of this game on the discount shelf and with baited breath I said out loud "yeah sure why not."
The Cosmic Shake is the first Spongebob game by Purple Lamp studios since Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. The story being that Spongebob bought a bottle of bath soap mixed with mermaids wishing tears from a mermaid who is described as a "snails oil saleswoman." She didn't think it would do anything until Spongebob started using it to try and grant as many wishes as possible. All these wishes create massive rifts in the fabric of reality that starts sucking nearly all of Bikini Bottom into multiple different worlds. Thus Spngebob and a now balloon Patrick must enter each world to save their friends and restore the town.
The game is set up like a metroidvania, each level has a main quest and many collectibles and challenges. There are multiple characters with set fetch quests in each level, there are challenges that can only be accessed by abilities learned later on. It gives you reasons to go back to each level, in a couple you actually get an optional quest after completing the story portion.
Gameplay is pretty straightforward and fairly easy to get into. For the most part it is building off of Battle For Bikini Bottom with some tweaks. There's the gliding move, which is a box of Krusty Krab pizza, a ranged bubble attack that stuns enemies, and a targeted karate kick that also acts as a way to move between platforms. The bosses are pretty fun, even if they are a bit simple and easy, King Gary forces you to use some strategy as he's sugar rushing. The final boss is a mutated Squidward that I'm starting to suspect was made using the scrapped Squidbot from BFBB. The most difficult one was against Pom Pom, a prehistoric Pearl, she has massive attacks that spread out across the entire arena and enemies spawn all throughout, things get busy.
This game does have a performance issue, at least on the PS4. There were many times when I'm going through a level, with no pop in, frame rate issues or glitches, when suddenly it freezes for a couple of seconds. This always made me very concerned, I was worried my play station was about to pop. It never crashed during those moments, so that was a relief, but it did like to test me with those freezes.
Writing wise, It is more of a piece of modern SpongeBob media, or in layman's terms, it's pretty up and down in writing quality. There were a few lines that made me laugh out loud, in the Halloween level there is some gag writing on a tomb stone for the persons famous last words, being "watch this!" A moment at the end of the western level had Mr. Krabs trying to stay until he started facing consequences for his actions and he turned on a dime.
You may have noticed that there is a lot of parody in this game, each level is parodying the genre it's themed after. For example there is a level that is a movie set for a karate movie, and each level also has its own version of the characters. The Squidward in this level is just Michael Bay, it fit his character really well. Each level does this in some way where it uses the setting to work off of the characters. It doesn't always succeed but when it does it's a lot of fun.
One place I want to point at where the writing falls a bit short is with the Glove World level. Here Glovy the park mascot is going a bit crazy from the isolation of falling into an alternate dimension. He kid naps Patrick in an attempt to get a friend all the while losing it. The level is full of pictures of SpongeBob and Patrick with Glovy's face pasted over SpongeBob's. My issue is that Glovy doesn't feel very unhinged. He's a bit too calm for someone who's supposed to be going insane. There are more scenes of SpongeBob going batshit insane in the actual show.
There are plenty of other writing issues like the continued flanderization of the characters, but the game is also very dependent on references. Sure all the games have plenty of these references, but this is getting a bit much. Sure they do stick out quite a bit, but they're gone as fast as they arrive, so it is not a deal breaker by any means.
It's not as good as Battle for Bikini Bottom, but this game is still pretty easy to pick up and play with plenty of fun to be had. If you can overlook some of the writing issues, enjoyment can be found here.

In the distant future, where humanity's reach extends to the farthest corners of the galaxy, there exists a planet named Thalassa. Thalassa is a world teeming with lush forests, vibrant flora, and a harmonious coexistence of technology and nature. It is on this planet that Seraphina, a young woman with long, flowing brown hair, adorned with a floral headband, and dressed in an intricately patterned, earthy-toned crop top, lives.
Seraphina is a historian and a researcher, fascinated by the ancient Earth and its historical figures. She spends her days exploring Thalassa's forests, which are rumored to hold remnants of ancient Earth civilizations, transported and preserved by unknown cosmic forces. Her latest research centers around Margaret III, Countess of Flanders, a figure from medieval Europe known for her political acumen and resilience.
One day, while exploring a dense part of the forest, Seraphina stumbles upon an ancient, weathered stone tablet partially covered in moss. The tablet is inscribed with symbols and text in an old Earth language. Intrigued, she carefully cleans the tablet and discovers a name etched at the bottom: Margaret III, Countess of Flanders.
As she deciphers the text, a holographic projection suddenly activates, revealing a message from Margaret III herself. The projection, preserved through advanced alien technology, recounts the Countess's efforts to safeguard her legacy and knowledge for future generations. She speaks of a hidden artifact, known as the "Chronicle of Flanders," which holds immense historical and cultural significance. The Chronicle, she reveals, is hidden somewhere on Thalassa, transported there by an ancient alien race that revered Earth's history.
Determined to find the Chronicle, Seraphina embarks on a quest across Thalassa. Along the way, she encounters various challenges and puzzles left by the ancient aliens to protect the artifact. She deciphers cryptic messages, navigates through hidden passageways, and uncovers forgotten ruins, all while piecing together the story of Margaret III.
As she delves deeper into the mystery, Seraphina realizes that the Chronicle of Flanders is not just a historical record but also a repository of advanced knowledge and technology. It holds secrets that could revolutionize the understanding of history and technology on Thalassa and beyond.
In the final leg of her journey, Seraphina discovers the location of the Chronicle within a grand, ancient library hidden beneath the roots of a massive, ancient tree. The library is a marvel of alien architecture, with towering shelves filled with holographic books and scrolls. At the center, encased in a protective energy field, lies the Chronicle of Flanders.
With great care, Seraphina retrieves the Chronicle and activates it. A holographic representation of Margaret III appears, expressing gratitude and imparting wisdom from her time. The Chronicle also contains detailed information on advanced technologies, cultural practices, and historical events, providing invaluable insights into both Earth’s and Thalassa's histories.
Seraphina's discovery becomes a turning point for Thalassa, bridging the gap between ancient Earth and the advanced civilizations of the galaxy. The Chronicle of Flanders becomes a symbol of the enduring legacy of history and the interconnectedness of all civilizations, past and future.
As Seraphina stands in the ancient library, holding the Chronicle, she feels a profound connection to Margaret III and the countless generations that came before her. Her journey has not only uncovered a priceless artifact but also forged a timeless bond between the past and the future, a testament to the enduring power of knowledge and discovery.

We’re Not Saying We’re Geniuses, But We Might Just Be After Explaining Gravitational Waves à la Homer Simpson
Hey, fellow Earthlings and assorted Springfieldians! Buckle up your brain belts because we're about to serve up a heaping helping of Homer Simpson's take on gravitational waves. Yes, you read that right. Our favorite donut-devouring, Duff-guzzling, sofa-sprawling Homer is about to school us all. And honestly, if we can understand this stuff, anyone can – we're practically smug about it.
Let's set the scene: Imagine Homer, beer in hand (because, of course), schooling us on gravitational waves. It's like having a science lesson in Moe's Tavern, but with less questionable stains and more mind-blowing revelations. Homer might not know his arithmetic from his armadillo, but when it comes to space ripples (yes, we said ripples – keep up!), he's suddenly the unintentional Stephen Hawking of Springfield.
Einstein, that guy with the wild hair and the E=mc² party trick, once threw down the gauntlet about space and time being all bendy. Well, Homer, in his infinite wisdom and simplicity, breaks it down for us mere mortals. Imagine space-time as a giant rubber sheet, which, no, is not a reference to Homer's bed-wetting solutions. Stick something heavy on it – think Barney post-Thanksgiving dinner – and watch that baby bend.
Now, enter the showstoppers: gravitational waves. These are not your average ocean waves where Flanders loses his mustache. These are more like cosmic belches after Homer's chili cook-offs, echoing across the universe. When massive stuff like black holes and stars decide to play bumper cars, they send these waves zipping and zapping through space.
And how does Homer, a man whose most strenuous mental exercise is often choosing between a glazed or a chocolate sprinkle donut, wrap his head around these invisible cosmic ripples? Well, he likens it to a blind squirrel occasionally finding a nut – basically, a stroke of luck. But worry not, because there are actual geniuses with tools and tech to detect these space-time shenanigans.
Feeling lost? Imagine Homer explaining it with a cold Duff in hand, probably burping occasionally for effect. Space-time, gravitational waves, and everything in between, he's got it covered in a way that even we, with our occasional brain cells firing, can grasp. And honestly, if Homer Simpson can get it, there's no excuse for the rest of us.
But don't just take our word for it. Dive headfirst (or donut-first, Homer's preferred method) into this wild world where science meets Simpson. It's a ride through the cosmos, guided by the least likely tour guide. You'll laugh, you'll cry (from laughter), and you might just learn something between giggles.
In conclusion, gravitational waves, black holes, and cosmic shenanigans are no longer just for the Lisa Simpsons of the world. Even us Homers can grasp it, and honestly, we're feeling pretty chuffed about it. We might just throw around words like "space-time continuum" at parties now. So join us, won't you, in basking in the glow of our newfound, Homer-inspired intellect. It's not every day you get to feel like a brainiac, all thanks to a cartoon character with a penchant for pink-frosted donuts.

Here's the thing, there is a lot of compassion for Link for being a teenager thrown into cosmic chess games between deities of light and darkness and I get that and it's great.
But there's none of it for Zelda. Particularly now that Skyward Sword incorporated the whole 'Goddess reincarnation' aspect and, of course, because people have no idea what reincarnation actually entails (And have unaddressed christian trauma that they love to project into any system of beliefs), they think it means Zelda is Hylia and therefore it's her fault any of this happened (And I already have to side-eye anyone who thinks Hylia is to blame for the whole situation. like. The megalomaniac trying to take over the kingdom is right over there??); and because they refuse to acknowledge that games previous to Skyward Sword would not really have a reason to adhere to that idea, as it hadn't even been coined yet, they refuse to see her as just her.
(Hell, I'd argue, without entering any real spoilers, that Echoes of Wisdom is all the better from completely ignoring that idea, as it's this humanity Zelda has that transforms the world and those around her for the better. And I say I would love to see what Akira Himekawa does with that game solely because it deprives them of so many of their storytelling crutches, but part of me also fears they would straight up not care and put them in there anyway and miss the point because they did that with TP already.)
Specifically with TP Zelda, ever since the game came out, there was this tendency in fanartists and writers and fans in general to make her completely cold and aloof and statue-like in a very anime-trope manner. It's flanderization hinging solely on the fact that she is very much the most regal Zelda. And while it might not be my favorite way to interpret her, I don't usually make a fuzz about it.
But when the manga not only had that, but also drew attention to how damaged she would have to be to have become like that, which looked like it was going somewhere, only to drop the ball collossaly by saying "Well, she's not even her own person, anyway, she's just OoT Zelda in another body, even though that's not really how reincarnation works and making her just a meat puppet for a centuries-old ghost is its entire brand of fucked up only comparable to Ganondorf doing just that to her in the story, which we do portray as fucked up but it's fine when grandma does it, apparently."
(And I guess maybe the point isn't really that she IS that Zelda but she just has the memories of that Zelda but... she does say something to the beat of having "Awakened" to being the OoT Zelda, so if it's the case, they really should chose their wording more carefully. Additionally that's still not great. She's a fucking teen having to take in memories of a life and a personality that isn't hers because otherwise the mangakas have to give her the same kind of humanity they give Link or even an inch of the nuance they give Midna and we can't have that.)
And it's honestly so upsetting that even OFFICIAL material doesn't allow her to be her own person, to just be her. It's so upsetting I could cry.
The way I had already been upset at people depriving TP Zelda from her humanity for years only to have the OFFICIAL MANGA do it as well aoisjaoisjaiosa

“A greedy man once yearned for more, so the fool began to borrow. He ate and drank and told the bank, “I’ll pay the debt tomorrow.” But as both dolt and purse grew fat, the calendar grew thinner. The debt collector had enough and hungered for his dinner. The coward ran, with coin in hand, but come dawn, lost his breath. The fool was caught, ‘twas all for naught, for the collector’s name was Death.”

Y’know, after rewatching Furious Fu (because I’m apparently okay with self-harm in the name of thorough analysis), l noticed something else apart from Marinette’s treatment that really grinds my gears: the kwamis’ treatment. Both by the episode itself and Su-Han, they’re portrayed and viewed as cosmic beings of incredible power who absolutely must be controlled and babied at all times instead of friends or even just allies that have their own individual personalities and beliefs that fit each of their themes and ages. This is in no way an isolated occurrence either, but it really is just highlighted and flanderized to an obscene degree in this episode.
I mean, that’s basically how the show itself treats them all the time: as things that give power, not beings with personalities. It’s been a consistent problem that’s showed up time and time again because the heroes are temps who don’t have to bond or communicate with their kwami in any meaningful way. They’re really just there to briefly explain the transformation phrases and then not give the holder the ability to transform if they’re MIA.
Like, imagine the amount of times Tikki has told Marinette something and then Marinette just continues doing what she was already doing anyway, later going, “oh you were right,” but then lather, rinse, repeat with that plot (”Guitar Villain” is probably the best example, especially since Tikki wasn’t needing and seeing Jagged figure things out and then encourage Marinette was--UGH, IT’S GOOD). It just makes Tikki a mouthpiece for whatever moral they’re trying to hammer in, and Tikki will be conveniently absent during scenes where the writers just didn’t feel like having her make any comments.
They’re either hindrances or don’t have enough of a say in anything to make a difference.

peter quill for the ask meme
favorite thing: I love several things about Peter Quill: his perseverance and will against all odds and that even though he has had a hard life he still is a good person that fights to save the universe. How he’s sarcastic and perpetually tired of all the shit that’s happening around him and sometimes he can be pessimistic but if others are feeling down he always tries to be the positive one. I love that while he has shades of grade that he also cares too much because even when he does morally questionable stuff the consequences will always affect him. I also love that no matter where he stands with his team he is fiercely protective of them. How he can stand up to cosmic powerhouses despite not having powers (well at least until Ewing’s run).
least favorite thing: That scene in DnA’s Guardians with him laughing at and heckling Cynosure while she fought for her life against a Cancerverse creature was pretty mean and really showed how cruel Peter can be with someone he doesn’t like. Even moreso after he admitted to Moondragon that he didn’t exactly wanted her dead because it showed that his anger towards her wasn’t that big. Granted she gave good reasons for him to not like her but him taking joy at her suffering always struck me as how cruel Peter can be with someone he doesn’t like. The whole brainwashing his teammates thing wasn’t great but he even showed some guilt over that, that stuff with Cynosure was him being mean.
fanon pet peeves I have with them: This kind of bleed through to comics canon (and the GotG cartoon) but I hate that after the MCU he’s portrayed as being a clown that no one respects or when he’s shown as being useless. Pretty much a flanderized version of MCU Peter (who has his faults but even he isn’t that bad). People who say Peter has no personality before the MCU and that he wasn’t interesting and that MCU and Chris Pratt made him interesting. Seriously they can piss off with that. Also people who picture pre-Bendis Star-Lord as this ultra badass war vet that never joked.
I wish people who make comments about comics to, y’know, actually read them....

Gerardus Mercator
Gerardus Mercator who was actually called Gheert Cremer, was a Flemish cartographer born in 1512 at the dawn of the Age of Exploration.
Mercator studied at the University of Leuven from 1530 to 1532. There he studied philosophy, mathematics and astronomy. During this study he adopted the Latin name Gerardus Mercator. After his studies he established himself as an independent instrument maker and cartographer. His business went well and his instruments were famous for their precision and detail. In 1536 Gerardus   married Barbara Schellekens. The couple would raise six children.
Tumblr media
Through Reinier Gemma Frisius, his former professor of medicine, he became interested in cartography. He drew his first maps in Leuven. In order to be able to print the maps, Gerardus himself stuck out the maps with a burin. This meant that he had to engrave each card in mirror writing. For the texts he chose the Italian font. The printed cards were in black and white. Coloring was done by hand, often by others. But he was the first to succeed in depicting the spherical surface of the earth on a flat surface without distortion: the Mercator projection. This gave Mercator's map a great practical usefulness. The map was very precise. On the basis of the Mercator map and his compass, the captain could now direct his ship to its destination.
Tumblr media
The left world map on two sheets is an early work of Gerardus Mercator, 1538 the second world map was made by Rumold Mercator his son, 1587
In 1537 he made a wall map of the Holy Land. This map consisted of six pages. A year later his 'Orbus Imago' appeared. This was a small world map in a heart-shaped projection. In 1540 he came up with a wall map of Flanders consisting of nine pages: 'Exactissima Flandriae Descriptio'. Because of these maps Mercator became world famous in Western Europe. All universities knew his name.

An updated version of the 1554 map of Europe as it appears in the 1595 atlas
In 1544 he was arrested for alleged heresy and adherence to Luther. It is more likely that he was prevented by the Dutch from selling his maps to other countries because of his talent for making maps and globes.

Lotharingia (Lorraine) as it appeared in the 1595 atlas
After his release, he worked in Leuven for another eight years. In 1552 he moved with his family to Duisburg. Historians believe that the liberal attitude of the Duke of Cleve was the decisive factor in his decision to settle there. Mercator hoped that he might also be able to hold a place at the University of Duisburg. He was granted the title of 'Ducal Cartographer' in 1563.

Terrestrial and celestial globes by Gerard Mercator, 1541, 1551
Gerardus Mercator drew his most important work in Duisburg. In 1554 his 'Europae descriptio' appeared. In 1569 he completed 'Nova et aucta orbis terrae descriptio ad usum navigantium emendate accommodata'. This was a large wall map of the world in 21 sheets. The world map was Mercator's masterpiece. The map was intended for naval navigation.

A map of the North Pole, with addition of data from Willem Barentsz voyages 1623
His success brought him wealth and recognition, and he passed his work on to his sons, and the mapmaking trade also began to establish itself in other countries. Mercator died in Duisburg in 1594 after two strokes. In 1595, his son brought out the atlas but it were not very popular at first, they were it later and still are today. The same for his cosmic maps.

All asks
Holy shit, this will be so much fun B-) *cracks knuckles*
Ask me: FANDOM EDITION
A - Your current OTP
Uhhh pff,,, skeleton dance I think?? I mean sure, skelley dance is always my current OTP, ngl. They're basically made for eachother, hell, even craig himself wore tshirts and stuff with wander hugging hater ifthisisn'tcannonthenidkwhatitis
B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind
To be honest,, wander x beza. I used to dislike every wander x girl ship bcs I see him as gae and nothing else. But I have a friend who does lots of art with them so I think it grew on me more and more with time?? Now I think they would look cute together, even if i'm still not super big on it.
C - A pairing you have never liked and probably never will
Wnder x domi. No comment, I despise it with all my heart 😂😂 Like I said earlier, I don't like most of wander x girl ships, and domi really hates wander. Sooo this ship simply doesn't make sense to me,, lmfao.
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t
I think Twi x Flash from mlp. Yeah, I thought twi was cute when crushing on him in the 1st EG movie but they don't seem to have that chemistry I was hoping for. Plus I haven't seen any recent episodes of mlp in a long time, though I heard ppl say that he was mean to her once, if I remember well? Anyways, doesn't work so much for me.
E - Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what
Besides memes/ shitposts, not really. Check @gunxball if you want to see posts of mine back when I was into gumball 2 yrs ago (golly i miss those times)
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom
Probably su (2016-2019) or kid vs kat (2011-2014)
G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it
Why yes, of course I do. cosmo x wanda from fop. They were so adorbs together esp in the first 2 seasons. Don't like how they got so flanderized with time, their dynamic was absolutely destroyed, and my day was ruined when I found out.
H - Do you prefer characters from real action series or anime series
I don't watch either lolol
But I think anime.
I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why
Dislike the fandom, not the show itself? Probably hzbin hotel. The show has a pretty neat concept and animation and it had such a big impact on my artstyle when I first watched it. But the fandom? Absolute hell. (pun intended)
From shipping wars, to pestering vivz, anything is possible. Glad I haven't actually interacted with that part of the fandom.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr
Not a show but among us. Back in september/october last year, my tl was FILLED with among us, up and down. Made me a lil tired of it but once I tried playing that game, I couldn't stop. Also the owlhouse, fell in love with the artstyle and story.
K - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom
I don't have a current fandom. Not feeling in the mood + school + inactivity bcs of school. So I'll say abt my latest fandom, which was animaney. Well, people were really nice, and they seemed to enjoy the reboot. Nothing more to say tbh,,
L - Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for
Ummm I don't really like giving rqs to my fave artists, i don't wanna bother them haha
M - Your favorite fanart or fanartist
I don't know aaaa, prolly toonipi but she also draws ocs, not just fanart.
N - Your favorite fanfiction or fanauthor
Anything cute or sappy with skelleydance (NO nsfw)
O - Choose a song at random, which OTP does it remind you of
Lasers and feelings. Skellydance again. It matches sO well-
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)
I used to have a skatepark AU ft. su chars but never put anything over here. I still have the sketches from 9th grade lmao.
Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and why
To be completely honest, Amydot. Up until s3 they really gave me possible ship vibes. They interacted a lot, and peri discovered her metal powers thanks to amy. But after s3 they hardly ever interacted anymore (besides that one ep from s5 with the kindergarden). I was so dissapointed, but hey lapdot isn't so bad anyway, right?
R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships
Back in 2014 I would have said chred from angry birds, definitely. Not many really shipped them, and when I saw some fanart of them on dA everyone would say "ew, gae". Well, 2014 everyone. I was always like "so?? i like that ship, what's the problem??"
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon
Uhmm, i headcanon darwin from tawog that he likes to yodel lol
T - If you mostly have homoships, do you have any heteroships
I think my ships are 50-50, but here are some examples:
Larsdie
Stevnnie
Blckeye
Fluttrcord
Beeckard
Starc0
Tanyamao
Foxodile
Pennball
Carwin
U - If you mostly have heteroships, do you have any homoships
Same as T. Another examples:
Skelleydance
Wnderingeye
Sylava
Lumty
Rupphre
Pearlmthyst
Badgrmao
Bubbline
Flutterdsh
Patbob
V - Are you one of those fans who can’t watch anything without shipping
Lol no. Tbh, i'm not super big on shipping either. I only slighty like/dislike any ship i listed earlier (with the exception of skelleydance, i'm too in love with that ship)
W - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms
wakko warner (animaney)
wander (woy)
fluttershy (mlp)
amethyst (su)
bubbles (ppg)
X - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms
skelleydance (woy)
lumty (toh)
stevnnie (su)
Y - A fandom you’re in but have no ships from
kid cosmic (or maybe I do ship papa g w/ chuck), animaney, okko, gravity flls
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go
That one fan made episode from su called the smothering, it was so freaking amazing. It helped a lot in relieveing the pain of that big hiatus from 2017 (which was the biggest one, i literally turned into a skeleton waiting for new eps). Loved peri's needy personality, as well as lappy's playful one. It was so well written, like it could be perfectly fit as a role reversal episode in the main show.
