Celery CELERY? that’s the ingredient y’all feel deserves hate. More that tomato who has her place on some but is a texture nightmare in others, Not corn who languishes hard and floating amongst superior veggies, but celery who with her sisters carrot bell pepper garlic and onions build the base of all broth. She doesn’t demand attention or to be chewed like spinach she is FOUNDATIONAL and I feel sorry for y’all and your lack of taste.
because I feel like it

Flight Plans
The last day before insanity engulfs this country. One way or the other, it’s not going to be easy. My fingers are crossed!
OK, so this morning’s blood sugar jumped up to 147. Too many crackers and chips for dinner? Maybe it’s just messing with me. Definitely not going for the lower dose now.
Nancy did yoga while I stayed in bed an extra few minutes. Then we enjoyed our coffee and brain games. A breakfast of oatmeal followed.
There are a couple of chances of some rain today, then simply cloudy for the rest of the day, with a high of 54º.
I did not get any work done before today on Tradition Eight for tonight’s study group, so I had to push my way through it. “What does it mean for NA to be nonprofessional?” Well…
Nancy put on another pot of pinto beans. I guess we’ll be having beans and tamales for dinner once again. Darn!
We had tomato soup with grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch.
I booked a flight back to Virginia for brother-in-law Boe’s funeral service, which will be Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk. I leave Eugene on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m., and arrive back on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. If all goes according to schedule.
Taking a walking from 3 to 4 p.m., I encountered a light drizzle most of the way. I made 3.42 miles, with an average pace of just over 18 minutes per mile. Nancy helped dry off my jacket off with a towel when I got back.
We had a light dinner, a bowl of pinto beans with cheese and salsa and a few corn chips. We ate early so I could get to my steps and traditions study group. All the members were present this time, although all were not completely prepared for the latest tradition.
Back home, Nancy and I streamed a new offering from AcornTV, “Ellis,” a 90-minute police drama. We followed that with another episode from the first season of “Tracker.”

4 Quick & Easy Tips to Burn More Belly Fat
1) Drink Water After Each Meal, (but not during)
When you drink water with meals, you dilute the hydrochloride acid that lines your stomach, which leads to improper digestion (or indigestion).
Proper digestion is essential for your body to extract the vitamins and nutrients out of the food you eat.
If you can't digest it, you can't use it. Where does that leave it?
If you are used to sipping on water with your meals and think that skipping water sounds incredibly hard, but as you'll see it's anything but.
I used to think that too but it's actually quite easy. Just decide to not have any water with the meal. Most fruits/veggies and carbohydrate foods contain plenty of water, and your body easily absorbs the water found in food.
When you eat, don't have any water even close to you. Rather, leave it in the fridge.
A great big bonus is that a glass of ice-cold water tastes amazing after a meal.
Be sure to wait at least 30-45 minutes before drinking water after eating as you want to allow some time for digestion. Drinking water too soon after eating will cause a dilution of hydrochloride acid that interferes with proper nutrient digestion.
2) Exercise Before Eating a Cheat Meal
The #1 single time of day that you can get away with eating the most and the worst food is after a workout.
That's because high sugar and high carbohydrate meals cause an insulin spike, which any other time during the day can lead to fat gain, but after a workout, the insulin spike can accelerate to muscle recovery and will not have a negative impact on your waistline (belly fat storage).
It's best to get a full workout in at the gym, and then go home and eat a cheat meal an hour later.
If going to the gym is not in the cards for you, then you can drop and do 50 or so push-ups, 40 body squats, pull-ups, chin-ups, or triceps wall extensions. Finish your workout by doing at least 30 minutes of jogging outside or 15-20 short burst hills-sprints.
3) Read Food Labels
Avoid any foods with the words: soy, hydrogenated, vegetable oil, high fructose corn syrup, extract, gluten, preservative, aspartame, and Mono-Sodium Glutamate (this will probably hide under "natural flavoring" or Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein).
In fact, you should strive to avoid anything with more than 4 or 5 ingredients. Say no to Franken foods whose ingredients list reads like a book.
You should always avoid packaged processed foods although sometimes you want some salsa or some soup or something. Check the labels for the best choice. As a fun game, next time you go to the grocery store just try and find 4 items without those nasty ingredients!
You may be amazed at what you've been eating this whole time.
4) Eat High Carb/Low-Fat or High Fat/Low Carb
To limit belly fat accumulation you should either limit fat consumption or carb consumption. That means if one day you want to eat more carbohydrates, then just simply reduce your fat intake.
If you're eating high fat that day lower your carb intake. It doesn't have to be down to zero, just lower it.

Chinese Food in The American West
One of the things I frequently come across as a student of the American West* is that people get most of their information from movies and TV and then act like they know things. Wyatt Earp was not a Lawful Good champion who always did his level best even when it was hard to know. (You want Seth Bullock or Bass Reeves). Racism was far more complicated than white vs not white (I’ve talked about this EXTENSIVELY in Strange Empire, so I’m not going to bore you here**).
And they didn’t just eat steak. In fact, they rarely ate steak.
Steak as cowboy food isn’t INACCURATE, but it is MODERN. From about the early 1900s on, you had less and less drives and more and more ranchers who were staying put, with less and less hands needed, and so food was grabbed less “on the go.” Cows could be slaughtered and used to feed the family, allowing for more opportunities for things like steak, yes, but also things like chili, a play on sauerbraten, southern-style biscuits. The cattle drives were a real blend of culture and race, and a lot of what we have left as “Western food” owes a great deal to that.
And if we leave the cattle drives and head into the towns of the American West, as we will today, we find things like oysters, pies, and various things like that. Far more well-heeled than the general expectation.
I mean, here’s the menu from the Occidental Saloon circa the late 1880s:
Soups
Chicken Giblet and Consumme, with Egg
Fish
Columbia River Salmon, au Beurre Noir
Relieves
Filet a Boeuf, a la Financier
Leg of Lamb, Sauce, Oysters
Cold Meats
Loin of Beef, Loin of Ham, Loin of Pork, Westphalia Ham, Corned Beef, Imported Lunches
Boiled Meats
Leg of Mutton, Ribs of Beef, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Russian River Bacon
Entrees
Pinons a Poulett, aux Champignons
Cream Fricasse of Chicken, Asparagus Points
Lapine Domestique, a la Matire d'Hote
Casserole d'Ritz aux Oeufs, a la Chinoise
Ducks of Mutton, Braze, with Chipoluta Ragout
California Fresh Peach, a la Conde
Roasts
Loin of Beef, Loin of Mutton, Leg of Pork
Apple Sauce, Suckling Pig, with Jelly, Chicken Stuffed Veal
Pastry
Peach, Apple, Plum, and Custard Pies
English Plum Pudding, Hard Sauce, Lemon Flavor
This dinner will be served for 50 cents.
-I got this from the book “Saloons of the Old West” by Erdoes
But none of that is precisely why I’m here, I just can’t stop myself from talking about this, why I’m here is that one of the things I say that often surprises people, is that Chinese food was incredibly common for the, well, common man to eat. There’s very much a conception that we as a non-Chinese American  people did not start eating Chinese food until the 40s and 50s, and its truer that it took longer to catch on in the American East than the West simply as a matter of proximity and choice.
Not MORE choice but LESS. Part of what made the West so unique, historically, is that the lack of choice and the basic scarcity caused people to work with and patronize people that their general prejudices would have kept them from using back east, because they had CHOICES. But out in the west, less so. There were few choices for a quick, cheap meal on the go. That dinner I just posted above is a lavish affair, and a great deal at approximately $20.00 in today’s money. (Which does not allow for the fact that cost of supplies has gone up and this dinner would most likely be offered for no less than 70 or so today.)
People desperately wanted something that was cheap and quick, and the other options in the American West were few, far between, and not intensely pleasing. No one had really come up with the sandwich shop as of yet, and in any case, fresh meats and cheeses would have been too difficult for the low-cost supplier.
ENTER THE CHINESE POPULATION.
If you have read my Strange Empire blogs, I hope you know that Chinese people were a huge presence in the American West, mostly working for the railroad and various mines, but also doing things like laundry, work that was extremely hard but took little in the way of English speaking. They existed in Chinatowns, for a combination of cultural and legal factors, but it’s a misconception that non-Chinese*** people never went to Chinatown.
People are not new, and it was not unusual for non-Chinese people to use the laundries, tailoring, and other services of Chinatowns while suppressing the rights of Chinese people int he same breath. There were always individual Chinese people any given non-Chinese person liked and did business with.
In time, they discovered the inherent wisdom of the noodle bowl.
I don’t mean to suggest that all these early restaurants served was noodle bowls, but that was where it all started. Remember, Italian food had little prominence in America at the this time, as Italian immigration didn’t really get into full swing until the 1870s in America. While there are noodle traditions half of everywhere, and there is nothing new under the sun, what we today would consider a stir-fry bowl was wildly new to most of the non-Chinese folks in the West. That it could be offered up so cheaply, was so filling, and so delicious (more on this later) was a wild revelation. Everyone from simple cowboys (which, fun fact! Was a slur back then!) to mayors were swinging by Chinatowns to try the dishes.
By the 1920s, chop suey, a fully Chinese American invention derived from the words for “various leftovers” was a hugely popular American food among all sorts.
Doc, you may ask, was it just that these folks coming through to get medicines or laundry were SO adventurous? Not at all! Chinese restaurants back then actually, in a very short amount of time, realized that their non-Chinese townsfolk were an excellent way to make money as well, and began to adapt and change dishes to better fit the Western palate, leading what we call American Chinese Food today, which is a legitimate foodway I will defend to my death. Unfortunately, none of these menus survive today--the only ones we have are from places in San Francisco, places that were much more posh, and not the subject of this essay.
There is a scene in Tombstone where Wyatt and his brothers are eating Chinese food, and it’s one of the things people often ask me about, assuming it’s anachronistic. Actually, it isn’t at all--the anachronism is that there’s broccoli in those noodle bowls, which had not yet hit our shores by the time of the OK Corral. Chinese food was a huge hit, Chinese restaurants were doing extremely well, and some Chinese restaurants were even beginning to attempt to print menus in English, with sit down areas, instead of serving simple fare from food carts.
As the food from these “chow chow houses” grew in popularity, as we can infer from the advertisements of their competitors promising free potatoes with every meal, and other such niceties to entice, there was, as ever there must be, blowback. Anti-Chinese sentiment grew to a fever pitch, and with this came overt pressure for ‘Good Americans” to patronize ‘American restaurants’. The social pressure is actually where we get some of that old racist jargon about Chinese people serving dogs and cats, which people often think was spread by competitors to degrade the Chinese restaurants, which isn’t UNTRUE, but was just as often said sheepishly by someone who couldn’t stop themselves from going and grabbing a noodle bowl or even the American dishes they offered, such as roast chicken or pork chop sandwiches.
(I won’t comment with anything but an eyeroll on the bullshit of people saying they’re ~allergic to MSG~ okay I’ll believe you when you stop eating processed food, meat, aged cheese)
It actually kept this type of reputation as being slightly scandalous well into the early 1900s, as being something you ate after the bar, something to be had in the shadows, but it was all for naught, because Chinese food became an important part of American identity. But for all that, no one ever pictures the Lone Ranger chowing down (the American phrase ‘chow’ for food actually comes from these ‘chow chow houses’) on some chop suey, but there’s every reason to believe he would have. American Chinese food is just as American as the Germanically-influenced hamburger.
(There’s a whole subtopic to go down about Jewish and Chinese communities and Kosher Chinese Food, two marginalized and othered communities coming together, but that’s a WHOLE other topic)
(Also someone please buy me Chinese food. This shit always makes me so hungry.)
*The American West is a specific time period, as far as the study of history goes. It covers the period between the end of the Civil War and the New Century, generally, and is, obviously, concerned with the western half of the country. It doesn’t cover stuff like Lewis and Clark (that’s Expansion) or even the Civil War itself, though you cannot possibly hope to study the American West in any level of seriousness without understanding the Civil War. Anyway! I know a lot about America between 1865 and 1900, and am just knowledgeable enough to be dangerous on everything else. Most History nerds are highly specified like this. We’re not as much help to your trivia team as you think.****
**I actually have had little chance to talk about ~European-style xenophobia~ as it played out in the west, because Strange Empire takes a more modern pass at it. But there was a hierarchy of “whiteness” as well, as still largely exists in Europe, land of intentionally clean ethnostates.
***I use the term “non-Chinese” instead of white because believe it or not, non-white people were not magically free of racism against Chinese people. It was horrific and BASICALLY every non-Chinese person was guilty of it to some level, a wild-ass level of hatred that led to Chinese folks not being able to PURCHASE PROPERTY BY LAW in ENTIRE STATES. Being Chinese or Native in this place and time was your Worst Bet.
****I actually was on a competitive trivia team, you DO want me.

Self-Shipping Reference.
I have been debating on creating a self-shipping reference for these two, but since I am certain of our dynamic at this point, I wanted to delve right in; I love Will and Jakob so very much and I wanted to create a little collection of our relationship like I’ve done before in the past. Most of all, this is for me so that I can have it as a reference, so there is absolutely no obligation to interact with this post. If you do, thank you for showing us so much love and care, I really appreciate it more than anything. This community is so welcoming of self-shipping and that means a lot to me<3.

please do not read if you are not interested in or comfortable with self-shipping.

Ship name?
Our collective ship name is Grimmrose, for obvious reasons (my poly heart can hardly take it😭✨💛)
I do not feel I should need to say this (as it should already be implied), but since I do not want angry anons in my ask box about this, I will state: Will and Jakob are not romantically involved in our dynamic; the love they have for each other is familial only. They both share me, but that is as far as it goes. There is absolutely no incestuous aspects of our relationship.
Date you got together?
Jakob: May 26, 2021. The open honesty and security within our vulnerabilities were what prompted Jakob and I to jump in headfirst. We knew how we felt almost immediately; Jakob believes in love at first sight and I value that sentiment. It was a mutual understanding that the two of us were meant to be together (even if I hadn’t already known, the darling would have convinced me - he is extremely persuasive and given to a dreamer’s mindset.) The two of us easily came to an agreement on beginning a relationship because of how similar we have found ourselves to be. It was not difficult to access what each other was thinking and how we chose to approach those thoughts and feelings. Jakob is driven by those, after all, and his bright spirit and general interest in the things that cannot be so easily explained drew me to him.
Will:
Platonic:  May 26, 2021.
 Romantic: June 14, 2021.
Will was, to my surprise, not as difficult to access as I expected. He has a much different personality to Jakob’s; the two are near opposite ends of the spectrum. Will’s mission has been to protect Jakob, mostly from himself, but Jakob does not understand that the reason Will is so hard on him is because Will feels helpless around him. Jakob’s mind is so bright and open, while Will does not understand how to compete with that nor how to understand or fit into Jakob’s world of folklore and mythical, magical beings. He feels weak in comparison to Jakob’s spirit; Will values my ability to cross those lines and connect with both him and Jakob. Will has never known another to be so well-suited for his brother and he is respectful of how we interact, since until now he has been the only one who has been able to reach Jakob. We were platonic for several weeks out of respect for Jakob, but soon entered into a mutual agreement to share the love that we all have for each other; the brothers agreed to share me since they have both developed such strong feelings.
Favorite personality trait?
Jakob: His sense of security within vulnerabilities. Jakob is more given to childlike excitement and the thrill of action whenever it is of a magical quality. He fidgets, has a distinct nervous energy/uncomfortable body language, a clear mind but one that fancies fiction over reality. Whenever he drinks, he’s giddy and excited; the only one who can get through to him in these moments are Will and I. The thing is, Jakob has never tried to be anybody but himself. He is aware that these qualities are not valued by the vast majority and are perhaps seen as weaknesses or even are simply frowned upon (much of this he experienced as a result of the way Will treated him over the years), but even all of that has never caused his personality to shift or made him close himself off. Jakob has always found security within who he is, regardless of whether those around like it or not.
Will: His protective commitment to those who he loves. Even though Will canonically admitted his frustrations over Jakob and how he “hates” his younger bother, stating how Jakob “drives him mad”, he is fiercely protective of him and committed to maintaining their relationship in spite of any disagreements or arguments. Will does not give up on those he loves. Even though it would have made sense for him to toss Jakob into the streets and leave him if he truly hates him, but Will does not. Despite his confession, he has never actually hated his brother; Jakob makes him feel weak, helpless and inferior because Jakob’s comprehension of things beyond Will’s understanding or compulsion to understand or look beyond what is right in front of him is too different and unusual to him.
Favorite physical trait?
Jakob: His eyes. Jakob’s eyes are so expressive; they sparkle in the light and his irises twinkle. His soul appears as if it were made from stardust and every bit of him glows. His eyes reflect the innocence and playful mischief bound within him; he is a dreamer at heart and his eyes mirror that.
Will: His smile. There is a scene when Jakob and Will first arrive at Marbaden and they are confronted by the townspeople with weapons, uncertain of who these two strangers are, and when Will tries to explain who they are his smile is simply dazzling. I believe that was the moment I found myself in love with him; I have not seen a smile so bright in a long time. Here’s a screenshot of his smile (Jakob’s expression in the background is so funny😂):
Tumblr media
Couple song
We do not have a couple song yet; we have couple albums.
Taylor Swift’s albums Folklore and Evermore are sister albums, so it only makes sense that they are representative of the two brothers respectively: Folklore for Jakob and Evermore for Will.
Both albums are suited to the three of us; the feelings provoked from both establish the tone of our relationship.
Pet peeves…
There is only one: their constant bickering/arguing and fights. It is natural for siblings to fight, but the longer I spend with these two, the more consistently they seem to fight in front of me. I do not believe the fighting affects their relationship as perhaps it did in the past; they seem very content, even after they’ve been fighting a while, and neither of them holds a grudge anymore.
Favorite outfit on them?
I will share photos since it would take some time to explain in enough detail; I am a sucker for older/medieval clothing (perhaps this is why this movie spoke to me in such a way?)
These are my favorite outfits of theirs:
Tumblr media
their armor is a close second, because it really makes me laugh:
Tumblr media
Favorite meal?
Jakob: This bit is indicative of all of us and I was the one who introduced the brothers to this meal - vegetable soup; beef/broth, noodles, peas, carrots, tomatoes, corn, green beans, potatoes. The brothers are used to eating whatever is being served them at the pubs they visit and the inns at each town they stay and, needless to say, are not often prepared a meal especially one to their specific tastes. The first time I made this for them, they ate heartily and it has been their favorite since.
Will: This is less of a specific meal and more of a eating habit of his, but Will is partial to sweet treats and desserts of all kind. His favorite treat is soft bread with a sticky, sugary glaze (wait until I tell him about glazed donuts😂)
Early bird or night owl?
Neither of the Grimms are particularly one or the other. They both have been known to stay awake all hours of the night for one reason or another; Jakob stays up writing most nights when brand new ideas flood his mind and prevent sleep. He works whenever inspiration strikes and if that is the middle of the night, then Will or I will find him hunched over his desk, pen scratching away across the page as he squints to read what he has written under the low candlelight.
Will stays awake late born out of a habit he has yet to change. He does not like to sleep very soundly until he knows that Jakob and I are either asleep or keeping each other company; Will takes responsibility of us quite seriously. Since we’ve begun a relationship, they do not go out as much as they once had and when we do, they are awake nearly the entire night and whenever they crash, they are both out cold.
If I wake up throughout the night, Jakob sleeps so soundly that he would not know (he wears earplugs if we’re staying at an inn because the noise bothers him.) Will always wakes up whenever I do; the shifting around wakes him, but he does not usually open his eyes or speak to me until I come back to bed and he settles me back into my spot.
Snorer or sleep talker?
Jakob: SLEEP TALKER! Jakob talks in his sleep nearly every night, most especially if he has had something to drink beforehand or if Will has gotten under his skin about something. Stress/anxiety also trigger it; I don’t hear him often, because he only does it in a deep sleep which is usually whenever I’ve already fallen asleep.
Will: Will does not snore or talk in his sleep; he is unusually quiet, however, he will groan or mumble softly if he’s turning over or something like that. He does not move a lot when he’s sleeping either.
Do you have any pets together?
No, our lifestyle is not suited to pets, unless horses used for transportation count.
Pet names! (Both from them and yours for them)
Will’s for me: little one/little girl, peanut
Jakob’s for me: sweetheart, darling, lover
Mine for Jakob: Jakey, Beanstalk (turning Will’s mean comments into something sweet💕), Dreamer, Sweetie/Sweet One/Sweet Baby
Mine for Will: Blondie, Prince Charming (only in certain scenarios)
Ones Jakob and Will use collectively for me: Briar Rose, Rosebud, Unicorn, Beauty/Belle (a play off my favorite fairytale), Princess
Ones I use collectively for Jakob & Will: Grimmy
How often do you fight? What starts fights?
I have yet to have any fights with either of the brothers (though I have had mild disagreements with Will over the way he speaks to Jakob.)
Jakob and Will fight often and about everything, but more often than not, the source of the argument is their personality difference. Their interests clash significantly and they find it difficult to coexist at times because Will feels he must fill the role of Jakob’s caretaker, while Jakob simply wants Will to be his brother and believe in him.
I usually do not get involved in their squabbles unless Will speaks out of turn. He can be somewhat hateful in the remarks he makes to his brother and I am not afraid to set the record straight. Jakob has gotten much better at standing up for himself; he is not afraid to get physical if things escalate to that point, though I have yet to see them lay a hand on each other. Jakob knows that one swift punch is all that he needs to deliver for Will to fall in line and understand that he is serious; he saves them for when he needs them and has only punched Will outright one time, that I am aware of.
Who apologizes first?
This depends on who feels they are “wrong”. Will does not like to apologize, so usually it is Jakob who initiates the apology. Occasionally, neither will apologize and it is implied that they both have and things will continue on like normal as if nothing ever happened (this is best case scenario.)
I have not known them to simply not apologize to each other for wrongdoing; Will has apologized to Jakob on a number of occasions where I have been present. If Will apologizes, it is usually for speaking too harshly to Jakob or bringing up the “magic beans” he has terrorized Jakob with for years.
Big spoon or little spoon?
Jakob: Jakob adores being the little spoon. Even though he likes to hold onto me at night, nothing seems to compare to being held. Jakob has gone the majority of his life without being shown affection and tender love; he is so touch-starved that he asks to be held almost every night.
Will: Will is the only F/O (aside from J) who I allow to be the big spoon on a regular basis. I trust him implicitly and know that he will keep me safe; he likes to hold onto me while we sleep so that he knows and can feel he isn’t alone. He does not like to sleep whenever it is too cold and he wants a warm body pressed against him.
Dom or sub?
Jakob: Submissive.
Will: Dominant.
Will has had his misgivings over Jakob and I, both being submissives, entering into a relationship together, but it has not presented an issue so far. Most of the time, Jakob and I love all over each other so it doesn’t matter one way or another😂 It is rare for Jakob and I to be sexually intimate.
Will takes on the more dominant role, since he has been so with Jakob over the years of their lives before they’d met me. Will is the nurturer and takes care of us both; he remains protective of us despite certain insecurities and fears. Will takes on more of the sexual responsibilities of their relationship with me because of his experience with women.
What are their kisses like?
Jakob: Jakob’s kisses begin as achingly shy, reverential ones that develop into slowly sensual, spontaneous or exploratory ones. Jakob likes to hold my hands when we kiss and I like the way his facial hair pleasantly scratches my face; he is always extremely gentle and never oversteps. I especially love when he kisses me with such eager impulsivity that our cheeks turn red and we laugh when it’s over.
Will: Will’s kisses can either be covetous and greedy, fervent, and deeply passionate or chaste and flirtatious. He always cups my cheeks, chin or tangles his fingers in my hair at the back of my head while kissing me; his lips often taste sweet or sugary from how often he indulges on sweets. My favorite of Will’s kisses are the languid, open-mouthed ones when he uses his tongue.
What do they smell like?
Jakob: Parchment, books and ink, candlewax, earth just after it has rained, sweet basil, a vaguely sweet musk, warm skin.
Will: Warm sugar, sweat/spicy musk, pine, flame.
What are their hugs like?
Jakob: Bear-like, full-bodied, fiercely affectionate and warm.
Will: Long, tight, unexpectedly powerful and almost needy.
Who is more protective?
Will.
Both brothers are fiercely protective of me and I know that, in spite of their differences, neither would ever let anything happen to me. As long as they are facing danger together, they would willingly take on any enemy (Jakob would never let Will face danger alone and vice versa.)
Interested in children?
No. Will says that Jakob and I are enough like children as it stands😂
Who needs the most TLC when sick?
Will AND Jakob. They are both huge babies whenever they are sick and all they want is to be taken care of. Surprisingly, they bicker a lot more whenever they’re sick; mainly, they fight over who gets to cuddle me first.
Whenever I am sick, I tend to react the same way and the brothers are more than obliged to take care of me in any way they are able. Will takes the more ‘hands-on’ work like fetching me a drink, food, blankets, etc. and helping me move about as I need. Jakob does not like to leave my side and he will not do so unless instructed by Will and he will fetch me whatever is needed and then return to cuddle with me.
Who says ‘I love you’ first?
I was the first one to say ‘I love you’ to either of the brothers. I told Jakob first; we nearly admitted it at the same time. We knew how we both felt upon the first of our meetings.
It took me a while to say ‘I love you’ to Will. Our relationship began platonically; I did not feel comfortable saying so to him until I spoke with Jakob about it first. Intuitive of human emotions is he and he was already well-aware of how we felt about each other and, with his blessing and consent, the brothers agreed to share the love and, well, me.
Which of you is more accident prone?
I bet you’re thinking either me or Jakob. WRONG! It’s Will. Jakob and I are very steady on our feet because we are full of rambunctious energy; Will is more laid back than either of us and he gets more indignant whenever he does accidentally hurt himself.
Bed hog?
Jakob is more of a bed hog than Will or I. He is consistently moving around in his sleep, talking, etc. There is one unspoken rule: Jakob sleeps on the left side of the mattress, I am in the middle and Will is on the right. Both use me as a barrier and do not cross to the other’s side of the bed at any point and they each take turns cuddling with me until we all fall asleep.
Who loves the other the most?
As if it even needs to be said, we all love each other equally, but in different ways. Jakob’s and Will’s relationship and love for each other is strictly familial, while the brothers’ relationships with me are both romantic.
Will understands and accepts that my relationship with Jakob takes priority, as we began ours first and I am unspokenly Jakob’s above all else. Any and all major decisions are made between Jakob and I; we of course always consider Will’s emotions, well-being, etc. but Jakob prefers to take the reins in terms of calling the shots, in spite of Will being the dominant and more protective one. He feels like Will owes him this and Will is happy to allow his brother this courtesy, considering this is Jakob’s first true relationship.

My Recipes
Resharing my recipes to help out some people looking for foods to eat low-carb, low-cal options! <3 <3 <3
My favourite foods for meals are hard boiled eggs (72 calories a piece - a dash of salt or pepper, as snacks or sandwich filler), tuna (120 calories a can), tilapia (80 calories a fillet), frozen salmon fillets (130/4 oz), romaine lettuce (5 calories for two LARGE leafs/10 for 4) for salads or in replacement of bread.
For tuna wraps (two cans of skipjack drained (240 calories), tbsp of full-fat mayo (80 calories), pepper medley, (you can add chives or celery), wrap in lettuce (head of lettuce - 5 calories for two LARGE leafs/10 for 4) -- makes multiple 'sandwiches'. (325 calories - 205 calories for 1 can) Sometimes I just drain a can of tuna, throw on some Clubhouse ‘La Grille’ Pepper Medley and eat it straight out of the can with a fork. (120 calories)
Egg salad wraps (two-three-four eggs, depends on how hungry you are), tbsp full-fat mayo (80 calories), yellow mustard to taste (0 cals) -- you can add a dash of salt or pepper, wrap lettuce (5-15) around it to make multiple 'sandwiches'. (229-301-373 calories - 2-3-4 large eggs)
I typically boil an entire carton of eggs in one sitting, remember that it takes more time to cook a whole carton. I also get cartons of egg whites (two containers/250g a container/a cup a container), I use a whole carton, microwave for 2 minutes 45 seconds, and then mix in a big tablespoon of peanut butter. It's surprisingly delicious! And low-carb. (206-286 calories if you use 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter respectively) Veggies with dinner or any meal: Simply Steam Green Giant items (like cauliflower rice and broccoli with cheese sauce, broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce, and brussel sprouts in butter sauce). All of them are low-cal and delicious. I avoid corn. I'm more a veggie girl than a fruit girl (I've never really been a fan. I don't know why). (40-50-80 calories for half a package - 80-100-160 calories for a full package) You can even make an egg white omelette with one of those 250g cartons and Simply Steam veggies! Just add one cup/250g of egg whites into a frying pan (115 calories), I typically use the broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce package and it comes to 215 calories.
Snacks: Large hardboiled eggs (dash of salt or pepper) - (72 calories a piece), cherry tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers, celery, (all great for salads as well), peanut butter, greek yogurt (don't get sweetened ones, they have a LOT of sugar in them). Sometimes, I just slice up a whole tomato (Beefsteak - 33 calories), and put some salt on it, and eat just that as a snack.
Get full fat dressing of your choice to dip or use as dressing. Smoked oysters (good healthy fat) with Clubhouse “La Grille pepper medley”. (130 calories) However, I get light peanut butter.
You can put peanut butter on your celery. Also, 15 almonds is about 100 calories – if you put them in water and in the fridge, they'll double to triple in size, much more filling that way!
Carbs: Whole grain brown rice (usually Uncle Ben's Express roasted chicken, vegetable medley, or mushroom), ready in 90 seconds! I typically only eat half a bag because the carb count can add up, for the second use -- you add a cup of water in the microwave, and heat up for 45-60 seconds. (130-140-150 calories) / (260-280-300 calories for a full bag)
Feel like pasta? They have low calorie options by Slendier – "Calorie Clever", which is gluten free, low carb, and a source of fiber. An entire package is 25 calories.
Feel like pizza? Get the whole wheat 7" tortilla wraps (the smaller size), a dash of tomato sauce spread around with the bottom of a spoon, mozza fat-free cheese slices (X2), top with low-cal toppings, spinach, chicken – 7 minutes in the oven at 400F. (235 calories)
Dessert or sweet tooth? A big spoonful of peanut butter (80-190 calories), or you can make a packet of maple oatmeal (Quaker), and a cup of cottage cheese, is REALLY good as a dessert. Mix it together, it's creamy-deliciousness! Great as breakfast/lunch/dessert, whenever. (271 calories)
Also, ICE CREAM. Plain. Chocolate. Vanilla. Nothing EXTRA in it, is what I mean. Chapman’s even makes a sugar-free, lactose-free kind. Chocolate and vanilla. And yes, Chapman's makes sugar-free chocolate and vanilla, and even ice cream sandwiches – so those are keto friendly! lol
I'm lactose-intolerant so I tend to avoid dairy products. I -love- ice cream, but ice cream does NOT love me. Chapman's makes sugar-free, lactose-free Chocolate, Vanilla, Maple Walnut, Butterscotch Ripple, and Black Cherry Ice Cream! And they taste AMAZING.
Not only that, I find I urinate most of it out, so it doesn’t add to the scale the following day for me.
Broth – I also like chicken bone broth with turmeric and black pepper. Easy to find on Amazon. I add a little bit of chicken bouillon and it tastes like a mug of spicy chicken soup. (75 calories)
I keep vitamins on hand: Essential Electrolytes, K2, Liquid Vitamin D (the pills don't absorb properly), B6, B12, biotin, and I have Apple Cider Vinegar pills (with 'mother') and Turmeric pills on hand. Keep in mind that for some people ACV helps acid reflux, for others it doesn't.
Turmeric is NOT a supplement. Do NOT take it on an empty stomach. I took two pills, then drank coffee. It was like I ate a ghost pepper, I could feel the heat in my mouth for the rest of the day and my stomach hurt. Only take Turmeric BEFORE you eat a meal. I also only take ACV before a meal. Never on an empty stomach.
Remember that the low-fat options typically have a LOT more sodium/sugar in them!
Drink LOTS of water, and don't count coffee or other liquids as your water intake. If you want to determine the exact amount you should drink according to your body weight, you can follow these steps: Take your weight and divide it in half and translate the lbs to ounces. Done.
Avoid sugar-free gum unless you're going to chew the same piece for 60 minutes + because that's how long it takes to burn off the calories in it by chewing it. If you’re going to exercise -- than sugar-free gum won’t matter, but it slows down your weight loss because it causes an insulin spike. You won’t stay in ketosis because of it. This is the same thing with sugar-free energy drinks unfortunately. I find changing your eating window around helps, because it confuses your metabolism. All of these things are easy to make, because I'm lazy. LOL
P.S. I'm a 'dirty faster', and put sweetener in my coffee, albeit I'm learning not to put sweetener in. And lime in my water (you can use lime or lemon), which is scientifically proven to kick your metabolism in the butt. Cool/cold showers instead of hot ones actually burns calories, and clears up skin from acne as well.
P.P.S. I've actually been clean fasting since early February. So now, black coffee, green tea, and water, are the only thing I intake while I'm fasting.

Today’s Agender Pride Day. This isn’t very well known, and I tend to forget until I look at facebook memories or a page might post on the day of about it. I realized I was agender a few years ago, but always knew I was ‘different’ gender wise. By the way, it means I don’t have a gender. It’s not a political statement or anything. I simply don’t have one. One of the questions I asked people when I was questioning, was what does gender feel like? The answers were either vague, I couldn’t relate, or they couldn’t answer. I can see it in other people, but for me there is literally nothing there. It’s like I’m an alien observing other people. Some agender people lean masculine or feminine. I don’t. I’m neither. I view those as styles, and like nice fancy masks but I don’t feel like I can relate or are them. I think my ideal gender expression would be a mix of those ‘styles’. Not sure if I’d call it androgynous. Some agender people experience dysphoria, and some don’t. I do. Basically anything gendered has potential to trigger it. That’s a lot of things. Body wise, I feel like a patchwork doll. My chest, facial hair, ‘downstairs’ (although vague), wide shoulders, etc. get to me. My chest is probably the source of most of my dysphoria, and I might not get top surgery. It’s up to me, but it could make my cancer progress. Anyways, it’s great there’s a pride day for us.
Today’s also World IBD Day. I was diagnosed with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) in July of 2015. It often gets confused with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), but they are very different. They never were sure whether it is UC (Ulcerative Colitis) or Crohn’s Disease. UC only affects the colon and rectum, while Crohn’s can affect the entire digestive system from the mouth to the anus. In both cases the body is essentially eating away at its own digestive system. That’s why it’s considered an autoimmune disease. Mine had signs that it slightly affected my stomach and duodenum, and that’s why they were leaning towards Crohn’s. Plus, my symptoms lined up more with it. The only reason they aren’t sure is because of an IBD blood test that came back saying it was UC. My entire colon was affected and has been scarred pretty badly from it. When I saw the pics they got from the first colonoscopy, I thought it looked beautiful. My colon looked like an angry red sky with tons of bright yellow stars. Those ‘stars’ were ulcers. Not good. The ‘red sky’ part was the inflammation. Before being diagnosed, the scariest thing was not knowing. I had symptoms of it as early as January that year. I had malabsorption problems at one point. There’s no cure for it. It can only go into remission with meds, and even then it’s really just slowed it down to a crawl. I haven’t been on any meds for it for a few years now. I’ve been told that I’ve been in remission during this time, but I think I’ve had brief flares of it since then. Diet doesn’t affect the disease itself, however it can help with symptoms/side effects. I’ve figured out some of my trigger foods. That being things like popcorn, corn, summer sausage, and more. While in remission, some foods can still irritate the scarring in my colon. So, I try to stay away from insoluble fiber, and eat more soluble fiber. I eat more cooked/peeled vegetables and some fruit. Soups help a lot this way. I’ve figured out some of my soothing and calming foods, too. That helps when I feel like I’m in a flare. Things like eggs, fish, oatmeal, potatoes, bananas, ice cream and cheese (most people have dairy as a trigger, so I’m weird this way), challah (a type of bread), plain chicken, and more. IBD can affect other things outside of the digestive tract. For instance, bones, liver, eyes, teeth, skin, and more. It’s not just a ‘bathroom’ disease. Before getting the cancer diagnosis, IBD was the biggest thing I was going through.

A Guide to Gluten: Does Everybody Need To Go Gluten-Free?
A Guide to Gluten: Does Everybody Need To Go Gluten-Free?
📷
Gluten-free foods have recently become quite popular. Nowadays, you’ll find gluten-free breads, pastries, candies, and more at your local grocery store. Because of this you might be wondering whether gluten is good or bad for you.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this: gluten can harm some people, but it seems to be totally fine for others.
In the health and wellness world, many influencers and companies claim that cutting out gluten will give you more energy, help you lose weight, and lift your mood. But in truth, your ideal diet depends on your body’s unique biology, which means that dietary requirements differ from one person to the next.
Here’s what you need to know about gluten, gluten intolerance, and celiac disease.
What is gluten?
Gluten refers to a group of proteins (prolamins) found in wheat, barley, and rye. These prolamins give these ingredients a glue-like consistency when mixed with water. This is why wheat flour is ideal for baking. It also helps bread rise and increases the shelf-life of baked goods and baking ingredients.
Gluten can be found in breads, pastas, and baked goods, but it can also be found in pre-made foods like soups and stews. Flour is often added to sweet treats and pre-made foods as a thickening agent, and added gluten can be used to improve the shelf-life of certain foods.
Gluten can also found in:
Brewer’s yeast
Malt
Beer
Certain candies
Certain chocolate drink mixes
Certain cereals and granolas
Sauces and dressings
Some meat substitutes
Gluten can also be found in places you wouldn’t expect, like in certain multivitamins and dietary supplements.
How does gluten harm the body?
As mentioned, gluten is an umbrella term that includes a number of different proteins. While some people can digest those proteins adequately, others can’t.
Proteins are typically broken down by the protease enzymes in your digestive tract. However, gluten proteins are resistant to these enzymes. These gluten proteins can cross over through the tissue in your digestive tract and into the rest of your body.
Your body’s immune system might attempt to fight these proteins. For some people, this immune response might make them sick. Those who have celiac disease – an autoimmune disease – could get severely sick if they eat gluten.
What is gluten intolerance?
“Gluten intolerance” is a broad term that refers to three health conditions: celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and wheat allergies.
While the symptoms differ from one condition to the next, they all generally cause you to feel ill after you consume gluten.
What is celiac disease?
Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition that involves the inflammation of your small intestine.
When someone with celiac disease consumes gluten, their small intestine will be damaged. This can make it difficult for their body to absorb nutrients, which can lead to weight loss, diarrhea, and pain. People with celiac disease might also have anemia, osteoporosis, and skin diseases.
About 1 percent of the world’s population has celiac disease, although it’s far more common in certain countries, like Finland, Mexico, and some northern African regions. Research shows that, in these areas, celiac disease can affect about 2 to 5 percent of the population.
Celiac disease is usually diagnosed by intestinal biopsy. It could also be diagnosed by blood testing for antibodies. There is no way to treat celiac disease other than avoiding gluten entirely.
What is non-celiac gluten sensitivity?
Some people who don’t seem to have celiac disease or wheat allergies find that they have a negative reaction to eating gluten. This is called non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS).
If you have NCGS, you might find that gluten causes you to have symptoms like intestinal pain and diarrhea as well as fatigue, joint pain, and headaches.
To be diagnosed with NCGS, your doctor will first rule out a wheat allergy and celiac disease.
What is a wheat allergy?
Wheat allergies and celiac disease are often confused. They are two different conditions, and it’s possible to have both at the same time.
These allergies are particularly common in children, who might outgrow it. However, many adults have wheat allergies too. They might have uncomfortable symptoms when they eat or inhale wheat.
The symptoms of wheat allergies can include:
Nausea and vomiting
Nasal congestion
Hives or rashes on skin
Bloating
Anaphylaxis (a potentially fatal allergic reaction that causes difficulty breathing)
Symptoms vary from person to person. For some, it might look like mild nausea and a stuffy nose. In others, wheat exposure can be fatal.
To diagnose a wheat allergy, an allergist will usually test your blood or do a skin-prick test.
Autoimmune disorders and gluten
Celiac disease is one kind of autoimmune disease. Other common autoimmune diseases include:
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which causes hypothyroidism
Psoriasis, a painful skin condition
Rheumatoid arthritis, where your joints become swollen and stiff
Lupus, which can affect the whole body
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), not to be confused with IBS
Type 1 diabetes
Multiple sclerosis
If you have an autoimmune disease of any kind, including those not listed here, your doctor might advise you to avoid gluten. Gluten seems to worsen the symptoms of autoimmune diseases, according to research. This might be because people with celiac disease are likely to have other autoimmune disorders. Some studies have found that people with autoimmune diseases benefit from a gluten-free diet.
So, if you have an autoimmune disease, you might want to eliminate gluten from your diet. Monitor your symptoms and see if they improve. As always, it’s wise to seek your doctor’s advice before making a major change in your diet.
Should everybody cut out gluten?
If you don’t have one of the above conditions, should you avoid gluten? That’s not 100% clear. Although some people claim that everybody should cut out gluten, there’s no evidence that shows it will benefit people without those conditions.
However, many people who don’t seem to have gluten intolerance feel better after they start avoiding gluten. This might not be because of gluten itself, but because of other factors. For example, going gluten-free might lead you to cut down on high-carbohydrate foods and processed foods. Eating these foods in excess can make you feel ill.
If you suspect you have gluten intolerance, you might find it helpful to temporarily cut out gluten and monitor how you feel. You can keep a notebook where you write down what you eat and what your symptoms are like.
How do I cut out gluten?
When you think about it, gluten is nearly everywhere. It’s in obvious places, like breads and pastas, but also in sauces, certain chocolate drinks, and candies.
Fortunately, since more people are aware of gluten sensitivities nowadays, it’s now easier to find gluten-free foods than ever. Gluten-free foods are often labeled as such. Remember that wheat-free is not the same as gluten-free – a wheat-free food can still contain gluten.
It’s important to read the labels of everything you eat. Read the ingredients list and avoid foods that contain:
Wheat
Barley
Rye
Malt
Oats (unless gluten-free oats)
Brewer’s yeast
Check the allergens list for gluten and any of the above ingredients.
Although many people confuse gluten with all grains, some grains don’t contain gluten. This includes corn, quinoa, teff, certain rices, sorghum, and millet. Gluten-free grains are often used to make gluten-free versions of bread, crackers, pastas, and more.
Thankfully, it’s now a little easier to find gluten-free alternatives to your favorite foods. Gluten-free oats, breads, and pastas are now far more common. You might even find gluten-free cakes, beers, and cookies that taste just as good as your favorite treats. Some bakeries and cafes are specifically gluten-free.
Eating out?
One of the most difficult aspects of having a gluten-free diet is navigating restaurants and pre-made food. Flour is often used as a thickening agent, for example. Even if a meal doesn’t contain any gluten itself, it might have come into contact with gluten during the preparation process. For some people, this alone can trigger an immune response.
Opt for gluten-free meal services, premade foods, and restaurants. Depending on your sensitivity level, you might get away with choosing a gluten-free option in a restaurant that uses gluten in other meals. Don’t be afraid to enquire with a company or business about whether or not they use gluten.
The Celiac Disease Foundation has helpful resources on eliminating gluten. They have lists of foods to avoid as well as meal plans, recipes, and tip sheets for gluten-free living. Although eliminating gluten can be difficult, it’s possible to still enjoy a variety of tasty, nutritious food.
Getting diagnosed with gluten intolerance
If you suspect that you’re gluten intolerant, you’ll probably want an official diagnosis.
Your first port-of-call is to go to your GP. They might order blood tests, or they will refer you to a dietician and/or allergist. Some people might struggle to get a diagnosis straight away, and they might have to see a few specialists to get to the bottom of their symptoms.
Gluten intolerance is often diagnosed by a blood test, skin-prick test, or biopsy. But as mentioned, your doctor or dietitian might also suggest you simply eliminate gluten from your diet and monitor your symptoms.
How we can help
Food allergy tests are the best way to figure out whether you have a food intolerance of any kind. However, they’re often extremely expensive. In a country where medical expenses are unaffordable for many, a great number of people might be sensitive to gluten without knowing it.
Discounted lab work is one of the many services we offer Knew Health Members. We include food allergy tests as well as fasting insulin tests and hormone checks. These tests help you identify any current or potential health issues. You’ll be equipped to make better decisions about your lifestyle and diet.
Gluten is a controversial topic in health and wellness circles. Some people believe everyone should cut out gluten entirely. But many people seem to be able to tolerate gluten well. If you suspect you have a gluten intolerance, whether it’s a wheat allergy or celiac disease, talk with your doctor about getting a diagnosis.

Nina: left; Adelaida: right
HUGE, HUGE thanks and MAJOR props to @killjo-qartz for these incredibly perfect commissions of my MCs!!!!!!
Read on for character intros! Note: DOB is written in the calendar format for Amasi, so stay tuned for calendar and timeline info!
Nina Zafira
15 years old; she/her; lesbian; attention disorder.
DOB: 15th Day of the Third Desert Moon, 502 Adeni PST
Appearance: 5'2, pear-shaped. Copper skin, bright brown eyes; brown coily hair (recently dyed hazel streaks); round cheeks; full lips.
Personality: Leader–dominant, sometimes to the point of domineering; ambitious, extroverted. Deeply loyal and generous, but stubborn; not afraid of confrontation, and can sometimes unintentionally center herself or insert herself in situations. Creative.
Hobbies: Art (sketching, watercolors; also nail art and make-up art); dancing (can merengue and salsa with the best of them, but doesn’t believe in formal steps/learning); singing (being tone-deaf never stopped her from belting her favorite gaitas at the top of her lungs!).
Favorites: Orange/yellow/pink; pastel blues; passion fruit anything (juice, ice cream, mousse, candies); arepa with queso rayado.
Relationships: Constantly crushing on girls and flirting but never really goes anywhere with it; struggles with maintaining serious relationships, whether platonic or romantic, so her serious friendship with Adelaida is all she feels capable of at the moment.
Fears: Being abandoned by everyone she loves, or losing them and ending up alone; not being good enough (as a friend, mostly, but later on as a heroine as well); losing trust of those she loves; alligators and bugs/insects.
Self Expression: Fast talker, often jumps around in trains of thought; often interrupts others (not always conscious of this and often well-intentioned–trying to contribute to the conversation by completing someone’s thought or bringing up something she thinks is relevant/interesting). Confidence informs her posture, stride, body language. She is noticed/center of attention without even trying. Despite being normally high energy, she sometimes crashes with moments of low energy and struggles sometimes to acknowledge and communicate needs when she crashes.
Communication & Affection: Words > actions. Promises mean everything. But this is in tension with her love language (physical touch) - easy for her to express affection with physical touch, but expects words of affirmation even where she struggles to give them. Deep emotional commitment and showing real, emotional vulnerability is difficult. Kind of a double standard as she demands/expects openness and vulnerability from others. It comes down to how much/whether she can fully trust someone.
Morality: Truth and honesty above all but if someone she loves is in danger, all morality goes out the window. She’ll do whatever it takes, even teaming up with morally “bad” or questionable actors if it means protecting or saving her loved ones–especially Adelaida. Not willing to give up her own life to save the world if Adelaida wouldn’t be saved, but she’d sacrifice herself in a heartbeat to save Adelaida.
Adelaida Zafira
15 years old; she/her; bisexual; social anxiety.
DOB: 13th Day of the First Earth Moon, 502 PST
Appearance: 5'5, square, lanky build. Golden-brown skin, acne (bumps and some acne scars; dark brown eyes (glasses); thick, wavy black hair; sharp features.
Personality: Dreamer–impressionable, naïve, sensitive, empathetic, introverted, shy. Very selfless and accepting, but can be self-pitying. Part of her shyness comes from social anxiety, but she generally prefers to be in solitude, or at most, quiet company. Tendency to be manipulated by stronger personalities. Does not like and avoids confrontation at all costs. Difficulties in standing up for herself/others.
Hobbies: Gardening (also interested in how to use herbs for medicinal purposes); reading (always has a book in hand); animals (always trying to rescue or heal stray injured animals; spends a lot of time learning how to care for animals; feels an affinity around them).
Favorites: Shades of brown; dark/navy blues; chupe (chicken broth-based soup with potatoes, corn); sucker for dark chocolate.
Relationships: Doesn’t always recognize friendships/others’ efforts at being friends. Not comfortable with physical touch (not from trauma or phobia; just more comfortable with space); needs time and trust to feel comfortable (Nina struggled to understand this at first). Doesn’t really crush on people; when she falls, she’ll fall hard.
Fears: Failure; hurting her loved ones; disappointing people; public speaking (panic attack-levels). Self Expression: Good posture, but dresses in muted tones and simply so as to not draw attention to herself. Movement is almost feline - quiet, but elegant. Speaks little, slowly/carefully, except around those she trusts, around whom she lets go more, talks a little faster and a little more, is a little more assertive and confident.
Communication & Affection: Actions > words. Expresses affection through acts of service and feels appreciated by receiving acts of service. Struggles to express emotions/affection with words. Struggles with vulnerability, but sees it differently (rather than vulnerability being showing emotion, she sees it as letting someone see her in her most comfortable self–i.e., when she’s reading alone!).
Morality: Strong moral code - ends cannot justify the means. She can be manipulated with threats against those she loves, and she will gladly sacrifice herself for them, or for the good of the entire world, but she won’t act in a way she believes is immoral even if it seems like the only way. She will always look for another way.

How does the Rancher feed all those bitties? Also should we call her the Rancher or call her the "Monster Rancher"~ (if you get my joke, if not then sorry for my dumb joke)
(Apologies for not using grams, or calories, that's just a little too much work for someone who hates math. I’m sure the “monster rancher” would be able to do it, but let’s just use kraft noodles as a measurement for a more relatable measurement)
The thing most people don’t realize about bitties is “just” how small they are. Most bitties can fit in the palm of your hand, while the ones with longer frames (i.e. lamia’s) can usually still sit comfortably in your hand. The exceptions, such as pure bites or even larger squadron bitties are an exception but those are rarer breeds and usually don’t come in exorbitant numbers. You don’t even breed that many pure bites, and Squadron bitties only grow to larger sizes AFTER being assigned a job. For now we’ll focus on the smaller bitties.
A fully grown person’s average meal can feed 16 bitties at each meal. They don't actually need a whole lot to eat and people who feed them larger meals are usually shocked by just how fat a bitty can get. Using mac and cheese as a measurement, about 10 cheesy noodles from your average box of mac and cheese can sustain most bitties at each meal. About half of a serving can sustain most larger bitties as well.
For the smaller bitties, if we look at an average box of kraft mac and cheese they usually contain between 1000 and 1200 noodles. Simply fixing one or two boxes at lunchtime can sustain most of the small bitties you host at the bitty hotels, of course usually just feeding any creature mac and cheese all the time is unsustainable. Pet bitties in particular are finicky and want more than just one food. You have good relations with a lot of farms, who sell to you at a significantly reduced price. A lot of your meals have a lot of vegetables in them, lots of corn or cornmeal, green beans, Brussels sprouts and broccoli. A lot of this is easy to budget for as well, because of one food that is a lifesaver for you and your ranch. Soup. So much variety and so easy to water down. Really you would be absolutely broke without soup.
As for the protection variety and pet variety who need meat you actually have a pretty neat solution for them. Your ranch specializes in training bitties, for the protection variety you actually have a rather unique feature on the ranch. You train them on how to hunt with an owner.
With a few people going on a hunt every week, each hunt usually produces at least one animal of prey. Rabbits are the most common on slow days, but you usually come home with at least one deer every hunt. Protection variety bitties don’t have the same issues with raw meat as humans do, and while it's usually recommended to feed them raw steaks or pork, deer and chicken work just as well. One deer can sustain your bitties for a week, with plenty for any pet varieties that don't hunt. Plus if you don't have enough after one hunt, you can always go on another one the next day. Just make sure you have a license to hunt with bitties.
Just a warning for prospective hunters, if you have a group of protection variety bitties that you like to hunt with, don’t be too surprised when they start working together. It can be a little terrifying at first to see a group of edgies take down a deer long enough for a pure bite to rip out their neck, but the rush of killing a deer usually keeps them from turning on you. They enjoy hunting animals more than you, so as long as you do so regularly and don’t let them roam around in packs on your own property you’ll be fine.
Aside from the smaller varieties of protection bitties, there is the issue of pure bites diet and the pet variety lamia’s who like to hunt small prey. With pure bites they usually take about half a serving of meat to be satisfied, whereas with the pet variety lamia who like to hunt, letting them chase around bugs is usually enough. It's actually very cute watching them try to catch butterflies and grasshoppers. You generally don’t have to worry about them too much in winter as they do tend to get sluggish and sleepy then.
But of course, if none of this works for you, dog food will sustain a bitty just as well, both carnivore and herbivore alike.

The Health and Fitness of a Nation
Do you ever wonder why a whole culture of people, and that would be we Americans, got so fat, so out of shape, so tired, and so plagued by pain, lack of mobility, and diseases?
Do you ever wonder why, in spite of the sad shape of our bodies, we are so unwilling to learn about and to adopt health principles and life-giving eating and lifestyle habits?
What has happened to us as a culture, and how did it happen?
Follow along, if you would, the chronology of the downward spiral of our eating and exercise habits.
It began hundreds of years ago, but let's start in 1956 with the birth of the "Four Food Groups."
We have been sold on the big mama myth of all--the "Four Food Groups." We were told, and we believed, that we must eat meat, dairy products, and refined breads, cereals, and grains to be healthy.
Tumblr media
We were also told and believed other lies and misconceptions:
· We believed, and most of us still do, that we must eat meat to get enough protein.
· We believed, and most of us still do, that meat protein is superior to plant protein.
· We believed, and most of us still do, that we must eat protein for strength and energy.
· We believed, and most of us still do, that eating chicken and fish will lower cholesterol.
· We believed, and most of us still do, that milk "does a body good," and we must drink it for strong bones and teeth.
· We believed, and most of us still do, that osteoporosis is caused by not getting enough calcium.
We get all the essential nutrients--protein, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, calcium, vitamins, phytochemicals, fiber--that we need for health and life from plant foods without the extra fat, cholesterol, salt, toxins, animal protein, and calories found in animal sources of food.
However, our cultural habits and traditions of today were built upon the infamous "Four Food Groups" and the six myths stated above.
At the same time we bought--hook, line, and sinker--into the original "Four Food Groups," our culture was also lured into the convenience of convenience foods.
Tumblr media
Convenience foods came in the form of canned foods--canned vegetables, fruits, soups, spaghetti sauces, condiments, and juices.
Convenience foods also came in the form of frozen foods, boxed breakfast cereals, instant oats, cream of wheat, and refined, white breads.
These convenience foods made our mothers' lives easier, and they fit into the model of the "Four Food Groups" so our moms gave us these foods without forethought or question.
But, although convenient, convenience foods were often loaded with salt, sugar, chemicals, and/or fat and lacked nutrients. And they were often high in calories.
How well I remember Campbell's tomato soup and toasted Velveeta cheese sandwiches and lemonade made from sugary, frozen concentrate. And what about those dried up cereals in the morning and frozen or canned peas, corn, or string beans at night?
I am sure you can remember what convenience foods your mom gave you.
Who even thought about the fact that when foods are altered through processing, canning, freezing, and/or packaging, they are stripped of many of their nutrients?
Who even thought about the fact that if we are filling up on these convenience foods, along with meat and dairy products, then we certainly aren't eating enough of the disease-preventing, health-promoting foods, namely fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and legumes?
Tumblr media
In addition to the infamous "Four Food Groups" and convenience foods, fast foods exploded into our lives starting in the 1960s.
Fast foods were fast, easy, cheap, and tasted good; just the right combination for mothers in the 70s and 80s who were going through their own transformation of becoming liberated and joining the work force. Convenience foods and fast foods made their very busy lives easier.
And then the children of these working moms grew up with fast and convenient foods and got accustomed to the taste, the accessibility, and the acceptability of these foods.
Let's face it. If kids are given the choice between a meal consisting of a hamburger, French fries, and pop or a meal consisting of a salad, brown rice and steamed vegetables, which meal are they going to choose? In fact, which meal would you choose or, at least, want to choose?
Before the event of women working out of their homes, kids were not given a choice what to eat. Kids were told what they had to eat. But that parental consciousness shifted when women spent so much of their time out of the home.
Kids, hooked on fast foods, would whine to their moms about going out for quick hamburgers or pizza, and working moms, too tired or too distracted or too stressed, would often concede. It was just plain easier for busy moms to give in to their kids' wishes rather than to prepare nutritious meals and to say, "No."
Kids were taught that they could eat what they wanted in whatever quantities they wanted. And they were not taught the difference between good food choices and bad food choices.
The result: spoiled taste buds, a spoiled attitude of "I want what I want when I want it" that carried over into adulthood, and, ultimately, taste buds were not the only things spoiled; whole bodies were spoiled.
To make matters go from bad to worse, the phenomenon of television invaded our living rooms. Kids and adults alike became more sedentary. Unfortunately, the more TV we watched the fatter and the less fit we got.
Furthermore, the advertising on T.V. had a tremendous influence on our eating habits and on our attitude about foods. Of course, computers and game boys chain us to our chairs even longer than just TV's.
In addition, remember how physical education was stressed in the 1960s? Remember John F. Kennedy's president's award for physical fitness? Well, P.E. lost its favor with the baby boomers and became less and less emphasized in the schools. In fact, by 1988, Illinois was the only state left that required daily P.E.
Tumblr media
The bottom line: as Americans ate worse and worse and moved their bodies less and less, we as a nation got fatter and fatter and sicker and sicker.
Then Americans became obsessed with losing all the excess weight they had gained through poor eating habits and the lack of activity and exercise.
However, we did not want to lose weight by eating correctly and exercising more--no, that took too much effort and too much time. We spoiled Americans wanted fast weight loss. So what did many of us latch onto? Any diet that came along that loudly touted quick fixes and easy solutions.
Did the diets work? Just look around and the truth will reveal itself.
How many millions of dollars are spent every year on the newest miracle diet, and how many of us continue to carry around way too much weight? It doesn't take a genius to see that those easy weight loss programs, called diets, simply don't work.
Just take a look at the popular, and one I completely shutter at, Atkins' diet. You know the one--the one that is overloaded with high fat, high cholesterol, and high animal protein. Dr. Atkins himself marketed and bragged about that diet for decades and made millions of dollars from millions of unsuspecting dieters.
Yet did you ever take a close look at Dr. Atkins before his premature death? He could not disguise the blatant fact that he always looked many pounds overweight. Even after decades of following his own advice, he still could not keep the pounds off. He is just one more bit of proof that fad, weight loss diets just don't work.
And look at the predicament that we, as a nation, are in now.
Americans are sicker, fatte, and more out of shape than ever. And it's getting worse, not better. If you don't believe it's getting worse, just take a walk into one of our high schools and look at our overweight, under-fit children.
We are birthed out of the loins of our culture. For fifty years and longer we have built food and exercise habits on the collectively accepted standard for our culture. And today we are products of that culture.
The standard for our culture was, and for the most part still is, filling our stomachs with meat, dairy products, boxed cereals, canned soups, canned fruits and vegetables, sugar products, Crisco, and Betty Crocker. With the addition of McDonald's and fast food across the land, our health slid from bad to worse. The lack of exercise only accelerated that downward spiral.
It is tough to break old conditioning and habits in order to turn your own body and your own life around. The choices that you must make now to be at your best level of comfort, energy, and activity are not the choices we were taught and conditioned to make as children.
It may be tough to consciously eat better, but it is much tougher to endure getting a breast cut off, the prostate cut out, or a leg cut off due to diabetes. It is much tougher to get your chest buzz-sawed open for heart surgery, to get burned by radiation, or to get sickened by chemotherapy than it is to fill your stomachs with fresh, whole fruits and vegetables.
Which will it be? Get stricken with a stroke that paralyzes you on one side of your body or eating fruits and vegetables and walking on your own for the rest of your life?
Seems like a simple, very clear choice to me. Doesn't it to you?
Just because the health of our nation is plummeting downward, doesn't mean that your health is doomed to take that same dreaded course.
Your health and fitness are your own responsibility, and it's time to take that first step on your own path to the best you.

Measure millet and cooking fluid: You'll need 1 cup of crude millet and 2 cups of cooking fluid (water or stock).
Toast millet: In a huge, dry pot, toast the crude millet over medium warmth for 4-5 minutes or until it turns a rich brilliant darker and the grains become fragrant. Be mindful so as not to allow them to consume.
Add the water and salt to the container: Since the dish is hot, the water will sputter a piece when you pour it in. Subsequent to including water and salt, give the millet a decent mix.
Heat the fluid to the point of boiling: Increase the warmth to high and heat the blend to the point of boiling.
Lower the warmth and stew: Decrease the warmth to low, drop in the spread and spread the pot. Stew until the grains ingest the vast majority of the water (they'll keep absorbing it as they sit), around 15 minutes. Stay away from the compulsion to look a lot or mix excessively (except if its adhering to the base). Mixing also overwhelmingly will separate the grains and change the surface.
Expel from warmth and let stand: Like most grains, millet needs a brief period off the warmth to completely ingest the fluid. Permit it to sit, secured and expelled from heat, for 10 minutes.
Cushion and serve! After millet sits, lighten it with a fork. Taste and include extra salt on the off chance that you'd like. Millet doesn't keep well and is best served warm (see Additional Notes beneath).
Formula NOTES
While I list the spread as discretionary here, it truly helps shield the millet from remaining together, and a tad of salt goes far.
To make millet porridge, increment the fluid to 3 cups and mix like clockwork as the millet stews.
As far as surface, a portion of millet's little dots will cook more rapidly than others. You'll likely have some gentler grains and some chewy or even crunchy grains. I see this as something worth being thankful for!
Moreover, millet is one parched grain and doesn't keep fantastically well medium-term. So while I frequently twofold or triple many grain plans to have extras for the week, I don't do this with millet as I see extras as very dry.
Millet is best served warm.
