So due to food allergies and other nonsense, the standard "we're out of..." grocery store pads aren't helpful for me - they have a ton of stuff if them that nobody in my house consumes and because I have to do my shopping at 3 stores the organization of the pads isn't terribly useful.
So I made my own as a whiteboard and stuck it on the fridge.
It's divided into 3 main categories: perishable foods, shelf-stable foods, and foods for specific individuals in the house.
All of us eat veggies and eggs and peanut butter, but large bastard is the only one who eats frozen pizza and sandwich rolls. All of us eat tofu and carrots, but I'm the only one who needs bread from a specific store and eats lunch meat.
This makes it easy for me to tell at a glance where shopping needs to be done (if I need a bunch of stuff then we have to go to trader Joe's, but if all we need are staples we can go to aldi; if we're low on a lot of pantry items but don't need any produce we can go to walmart).
The way that I put together the board is by figuring out the stuff that had most often necessitated a trip to the grocery store for just that one item. I can't tell you how many times I have started getting ready to cook and then had to run out and get onions because I forgot that we were out of onions.
Now if I'm down to one or two onions i put a dot on the board and the next time i go shopping i get onions. When i open the last bottle of tamari or bag of coffee, i put a dot on the board.
It's also a really handy list to have while getting ready to shop because we can stand in front of it and use it as a reminder to *check* what we're low on. Do we need milk? Open the fridge and figure out if we'll run out before the next time we go shopping. Does tiny bastard need more peas to reward her for taking her insulin? Open the freezer before we gather up the shopping bags to find out.
Then it's super easy to take a photo and go shopping, and when we get back to erase the dots for stuff we got but leave the dots for stuff from another store or that was out of stock.
I've been using system for a few months now and it has been very helpful for preventing food waste and for reducing the number of trips we take to the grocery store, both of which save us money.
It's made out of a small whiteboard (about 9x14 inches) that i glued magnets to. The list items are written in permanent marker and the dots are dry erase marker. I put dots in the center of the boxes because if you overlap permanent marker with dry erase, it will wear away the permanent marker.
Anyway. This system has helped me, maybe it will be helpful for other folks as well.

foods of the Lands Between: spicy prawns · she-crab soup · meat dumplings · pickled veggies · herba tea · sheep's milk cheese · beast blood pancakes · rowa jam tarts
while Elden Ring has a variety of consumable items, most of them are described as being medicinal in nature. I wanted to come up with food that people in the Lands Between might have for actual meals! all of these were inspired directly by in-game items & creatures.
flavor text (hehe) below the cut:
spicy prawns: Widely enjoyed in Liurnia due to the abundance of crayfish, and seasoned with the same fiery spices used to prepare exalted flesh.
she-crab soup: A rich bisque made with fish stock, cream, fortified wine, crab meat, and crab eggs. The roe of giant crabs is particularly prized for use in this dish.
meat dumplings: A staple in the Lands Between made with whatever meat is readily available (springhare, guillemot, and land octopus are common fillings). Methods of preparation vary as much as the meat, and they're sometimes enjoyed fermented or raw.
pickled veggies: Mixed vegetables preserved in a sour brine and stored inside of clay pots. Edible mushrooms and cave moss are frequent additions. They can supposedly be thrown at attackers in a pinch to inflict the [PICKLED] status.
herba tea: A beverage made from herba leaves that have been meticulously steamed, dried, and ground into a fine powder, then whisked into hot water. It can also be steeped from fresh herba, though the powdered form is preferred for both its stronger flavor and ease of storage.
sheep's milk cheese: A blue cheese made from the raw milk of rolling sheep. Creamy and tangy, with a salty rind that tastes of seagrass. Its vibrant veins of mold come from fungi that flourish in Limgrave’s coastal caves.
beast blood pancakes: The blood of beasts makes a handy substitute when fresh eggs are hard to come by. These dense and savory pancakes are often served with buttery marrow from the beast's own bones, plus a hearty dollop of rowa jam.
rowa jam tarts: While red rowa is rather sour and more commonly consumed by animals than people, the golden fruit from the Altus Plateau makes especially sweet preserves that are perfect for use in tarts and other desserts. Such treats are precious things.
#elden ring#food#i was also inspired by dungeon meshi a bit :]#but tbf these dishes are pretty tame because i wanted them to be realistic#i'm sure there's some wild tarnished out there making braised glintstone dragon and arteria leaf pesto tho#cas draws

sharp fangs / the finale / sam and colby
‘my blood runs cold like ice, sharp fangs, might bite.’
sum: your vampire boyfriends sam and colby have been determined to keep you human. colby has gone behind sam’s back, biting you and transforming you into one of them. how will you handle being a chaotic new born with hormones driving you up the wall?
tw: smut minors dni 18+, vampire!sam, vampire!colby, newborn vampire!reader, rough sex bc yk… vamp strength, humiliation, degradation, choking, passing out at the end but there’s plot reasons
an: can’t believe this shit has been in my head rent free for months and i just like… never wrote it? idk happy kinktober fuckers!
Cold.
The feeling surrounded you, engulfed you even.
This is what you imagined being submerged in ice cold water felt like. Or those athletes who bathed in ice baths for fun. Your lungs felt stuck, your body completely frozen in time. Your eyes opened in a flash, unsteady as you sat up.
A concerned Sam and Colby arose from their chairs, instantly standing by each of your sides.
“I am so sorry I never should’ve left you unattended with Colby-”
“You’re doing so well just try to focus on our voices-”
Their rambles were cut short by your eyebrow raising. Their voices sounded much clearer, as if before you had heard them speak underwater. You reached out and touched Sam’s cheek, his skin much softer than you had remembered. Your sights then fell on Colby, your fingertips brushing over his lips. The pads of your fingers seemed to be able to recognize more, every weave that woven through out his lips easily noticeable to you now. You blinked unsurely, the mere act of blinking feeling unnatural. You tilted your head to the side, opening your mouth to speak but abruptly stopping.
Your hand flew to your throat, clutching it like a man dying of thirst. “What… What is this feeling?” You choked out. Your throat felt dry, as if you had never consumed liquid any time during your lifetime. “It’s thirst. Here we got you a remedy,” Sam said. He handed you a blood bag, which they modestly decorated by placing it in a black pouch. You broke it open, ignoring the generous straw they had also placed for you. You gulped the metallic liquid, the crimson paint dripping down the sides of your chin.
You finished it in mere seconds, swallowing before grinning at the boys.
“Got anymore?”
Sam continued to hand you all of the blood bags they had, watching in amazement as you gulped it down. The boys had anticipated an uncontrolled thirst, but they hadn’t stocked up nearly enough to compensate your craving. “This is very hot and very concerning,” Colby grumbled, handing you the last blood bag. Sam elbowed him, shooting him a dirty look. “You’re the one who did this, remember that,” He snapped. Colby rolled his eyes, their attention resuming on you.
Shamelessly you were licking the inside of the plastic, your tongue flattening as you soaked in the flavor. “This shit… is so fucking good,” You purred. You moved your hair out of the way, lapping up some blood that had dripped on your shoulder. Your fingertips traced your puncture wounds from Colby’s fangs, the wound permanently stapled into your skin. “Interesting,” You hummed to yourself. As you opened your mouth the intense unsatisfied thirst consumed you, causing you to panic.
The sound of heartbeats from all of your neighbors began to become the only sounds audible. You jumped to your feet, attempting to zoom past the boys who immediately grabbed you. “She’s hearing the neighbors,” Sam grunted, both of them fighting to hold you back. Your eyes were glued to the door, your jaw clenching as you thrashed against their hold. “Cmon princess relax,” Colby encouraged. His encouragement only made you thrash more, your movements suddenly halting. You went limp against their hold, wondering if your nose had deceived you. Breathing wasn’t a necessity for you anymore, but your lungs became full as you inhaled deeply through your nose.
Not only could you hear your neighbors, you could smell them.
“Oh shit,” Colby muttered, watching as Sam reacted faster than he did. The blonde grabbed you, slamming you into the floor. Your wooden floor cracked underneath you, unfazing you as you hissed at him. “You know she’s kinda hot when she’s all feisty like this,” Colby chuckled, amused with the situation. Sam shot him a dirty look as he held you down. “Is this really the time to be thinking with your dick?” He barked. Colby rolled his eyes, lowering himself to your level. His hand reached over and grabbed your chin, forcing you to look at him.
“Look at me princess. Focus on me,” He purred. His command made you temporarily pause, your freshly crimson eyes a darker shade of red than the boys. His touch was assertive and demanding, his familiar voice bringing you back to reality. “There we go. Now keep focusing on us,” Colby ordered. His eyes flickered to Sam, ensuring he was taking the not so subtle hint. Sam and Colby knew more information about newborns than they cared to. Colby turned first, all of those years ago. He refused to live without his best friend, who was dying from the same plague he was. So he did everything he could to try to obtain information on newborns, trying his hardest to take care of Sam.
But that was years ago and despite all of the decades passing, Colby remembered one crucial detail that would now come in handy. Newborns still had hormones, despite the science disclaiming that. As a newborn you were in a constant of feralness, the only two things on your mind feeding and finding a mate. So now as the two boys hovered over you, Colby had a daring realization. If they fucked you hard enough, you’d be knocked out for at least a few hours. It was what he considered to be an hormone overload. Actually obtaining what you wanted so desperately would only overstimulate your fresh set of senses. The result would end the same if you participated in gluttony. Those few hours would give them time to get you away from society, as well as figure out what to do with a ravenous newborn.
Sam carried you over to your couch, kneeling down in front of you. He was careless with your clothes, ripping your sweatpants into shreds. “We don’t need to be gentle with you anymore, do we Colbs?” Sam purred. Colby was behind you in a flash, cupping your throat from behind. You tilted your head back to meet his intense gaze, Sam’s strong hands prying your legs apart. “I don’t think we do. But you can take it, right princess?” Colby hummed, smirking in satisfaction as you meekly verbalized agreement. Sam’s fangs were sharp as they sank into the fabric of your panties, ripping them off of you carelessly. Teasingly he kissed around your folds, purposefully making his breath hot against your now frozen skin.
His teasing was working, causing you to squirm as you tried to buck your hips upwards. Sam hooked your legs over his shoulders, indulging in the sweet heaven that was your cunt. You groaned as Colby’s fingers tightened, painfully grabbing the skin. “That feels good doesn’t it? Feels good when Sam plays with that pretty pussy of yours?” He asked mockingly. He couldn’t conceal his fangs as you moaned in response, unable to control his urges as he admired you. Sam lapped at your cunt, teasingly grazing his teeth against your clit as you grinded shamelessly against his face.
Your thighs were captivating as you squeezed his head, your strength far more comparable to theirs since your transition. Colby lowered down behind you, his breath hot against your ear. “You like that? You like watching Sam please you?” He asked. You could feel yourself melting under their touch, your fingers palming at Sam’s hair. Sam remained unfazed by his surroundings, engulfing himself in your folds. He sucked at your clit, your back arching off of the couch as you felt yourself on the edge of your first orgasm.
“Fuck- feels so good, fuck!”
Your sinful noises were louder than you intended them to be, your body shivering with pleasure as you came on Sam’s face. Your thirst for blood temporarily resumed, causing Sam and Colby to rearrange you quickly to keep you occupied. Your back fully hit the couch, Colby making himself comfortable in between your legs. He leaned over and grabbed your throat, causing you to meet his stern gaze. “You’ve been a bad girl. Disobeying Sammy. Now be a good whore and take your punishment,” He chuckled darkly. He guided you to tilt your head back, Sam’s hard cock hovering over your face. You flattened your tongue out across your bottom lip, inviting him to slide into your throat.
Sam was more eager than you had anticipated, quickly shoving his shaft down your throat. He groaned as you whimpered around him, the vibrations making him even harder. You gasped in surprise as Colby took no time to slide right in to your cunt, your walls eagerly accepting him. “Holy fuck, I can just slide right in. Filthy slut,” Colby grunted. He grabbed your legs, shoving them over his shoulders. You whined as they both bottomed out, your gagging ignored as Sam grabbed your throat with both of his hands. Instinctively your eyes fluttered shut, your jaw going slack as a warm feeling took over your body.
Colby pounded into you relentlessly, focused on fucking you as aggressively and animalistic as possible. Sam’s pace was the same, abusing your cunt. “I think she likes this. Being used like a whore,” Sam sneered. He leaned over and ripped apart your shirt, the fabric falling apart under his touch. Your bare breast bounced as Colby rammed into you, Sam seizing the opportunity to slap your breast harshly. It was then the couch gave out, the wooden supports shattering. It didn’t halt the boys at all, your couch now broken. You audibly whined, your head spinning as you took both of them. “Don’t start whining now little girl, you asked for this,” Colby snarled. He began to fuck into you deeper, abusing your cunt as he pleased. Your walls clung onto him, milking his cock as he fucked you like a wild animal.
Sam bit his bottom lip as he abused your throat, saliva messily trailing down your cheeks. You couldn’t control your moans, that were being mercilessly muffled by his shaft. The three of you were feral, becoming one unit as your final orgasm approached. You couldn’t warn them, not that you’d need to. They knew your body better than they knew each other. Colby grinned as he felt your walls squeeze him tighter. “Aweee is someone gonna cum already?” Colby asked mockingly. Sam licked his lips, feeling his own hips stutter. “Cum as you swallow my cum slut,” He barked, his warm seed flooding down your throat. You gagged as you struggled to swallow him whole, his cock remaining lodged. You attempted to swallow it all, Sam abruptly pulling out of you.
He grabbed your face, forcing you to look up at Colby. “Dont swallow it all, let it trail down your tongue slut,” Sam growled. You tried to listen, spitting up his cum and sticking out your tongue. You managed to look up at Colby as he fucked you, his thrust no where near stopping as he stared down at you. “Good girl, such a good slut for us,” Colby purred. Sam’s fingers roughly gathered his cum mixed with your saliva, spreading it across your chest. “A filthy fuckin whore is what she is. I bet she’d cum if I told her to,” Sam said. You struggled to contain your noises, Sam’s fangs grazing your earlobe. “Let’s put that theory to the test, cum. Now,” Colby ordered, his voice full of venom. It was then darkness consumed you, your thighs trembling as you came on his cock.
\/
Transitioning from a newborn to normal vampire was chaotic. At first you were feral, Sam and Colby never having had so much sex in their lives. For the first decade the three of you hid in the woods, the boys having more than enough time to craft the perfect getaway cabin. It kept you concealed from society, which worked out perfectly as you were deemed missing under mysterious circumstances.
Truthfully as time passed you didn’t miss anything about your human life at all. Every second you spent awake with them was more than you could’ve ever asked for. Your reality was better than any dreams you could’ve possibly missed. You laid in between the boys as you usually did, the hammock swaying side to side. A nice summer breeze blew past you, your eyes fluttered shut in contentment as you laid on Colby’s chest. Sam’s fingers played carelessly with your hair, creating a deep sense of comfort. You may now have ridiculously sharp fangs, but your life was peaceful. And spending entirety with Sam and Colby? That’s all you could really ask for.

What does the seller at the Forks grocery store think of the Cullens? Do they make strange Products/Merchandise? Acting strange/creepy?
Well.
We get a hint from a) what we see in their house b) how we see the Cullens act at school c) Edward's complete forgetting of how much humans actually eat a day.
First, we know that Esme does go out to buy food and pretend to be human and that they make sure their kitchen is stocked so that people in a very small town don't realize that the Cullens never actually eat. Well done Cullens. We also know Esme cooks as a hobby and she's very good at it (a shocking thing for Bella). Once Bella entered the picture, Esme makes things like pasta for her.
So, they do at least buy food and more importantly it's things Esme can actually do something with and they taste good. So, they're not entirely getting nonsense.
However, then we see what the kids get up to at school. Bella notices the Cullens on the first day and they are anorexic city. They have the bare minimum food they felt they were required to purchase, not eating any of it, and then throwing it all out thinking they're fooling everyone and being very very clever. They think they're getting away with it because the Forks students don't remark on it as it's part of the general weirdness of the Cullen package (Bella too thinks she's exceptionally observant because she's the only one who seems to notice the Cullens are strange :O)
Later, Edward multiple times observes Bella, and is very confused on how much she's supposed to eat. He knows her buying just a soda that one time is not correct but he's also not sure about that. At the Italian dinner he genuinely doesn't know if Bella should eat more or less ravioli.
Basically, at least the kids have no idea how portion sizes work or how much humans consume a day. Now, they're not Esme, so she might be better but Esme's also cooking food no one eats as a hobby so here's my suspicion of what happens.
Esme gets her baking ingredient staples: eggs, butter, milk, flour and restocks regularly. Similarly, she's getting her cooking essentials and restocking about as much as one would expect: vinegar, salt, olive oil, pepper, etc. So far, so good. Where I suspect her problem will be is that Esme will buy things for the various things she wants to try cooking but not necessarily what a mother of a ridiculous sized family would be buying to supply meals every day. They're also likely very weird things as Esme wants to try this or that, which are things most people don't actually eat all the time if at all. Also, cost's not a factor for her, so if Esme wants to make lobster she's making lobster.
So, I imagine a few things, Esme severely underbuys for what she should be compared to if they were real people, she's buying cooking supplies + very strange things and also very expensive things. This, combined with the kids coming off very eating disorder, and it makes it seem like there's something weird going on with the Cullens in terms of eating disorders/weight, but mostly that they're rich and weird and not people who don't actually eat food at all.
Of course, it also being purchased by a crystal demon lady who terrifies you despite looking like she should be the sweetest most beautiful person on the planet doesn't help.
It's just the Cullen aesthetic though.

I'm asking you abt sin licenses
So the country I grew up in was an Islamic theocracy, meaning they didn't like pork or alcohol, but also has a HUGE western expat population that wants to buy pork and alcohol. And the one thing dictators like as much as control is money, so like hell they were just gonna let that HUGE potential cash flow fall into the sea instead of their pockets.
Enter the sin licenses. They are exactly what they sound like: a license to sin. You apply for one, you prove you're not Muslim, that you have no religious or cultural qualms about consuming pork or alcohol, and that you're over 18, and you get a special government-issued photo ID saying you're allowed to sin.
You won't find any pork or alcohol on the main floor of any grocery stores, and you won't find liquor stores advertising themselves either, they don't even have signs out front. Instead, there were special walled-off windowless sections of grocery stores where you showed them your sin license and they let you in, and you walked into a little room stocked floor to ceiling with pork products and alcohol. There were signs above the doors that said "NO MUSLIMS." Youd have to buy your pork or alcohol there, where they would validate your sin license again, charge you an extra "sin tax" as like, this pledge to the mosques as an apology for committing the grave sin of having a beer on your own deck in their general vicinity, and then they'd put them in these opaque bags that were stapled shut with the receipt on the outside. When you left the grocery store, the workers would double check the receipt of that bag only and then ask for your sin license again.
Obviously if you don't LIVE there they will just take your regular ID in the bars and resorts as a tourist, but if you want pork or alcohol as a resident there, that's the only way to get it.
Also, tons of things have pork in them that you wouldn't realize if someone didn't tell you. Marshmallows have pig in them, so do most gummy candies.

Outside the window, the world is dark, with only the occasional twinkle of a distant city or a star breaking through the velvety blackness. ↳ Charles and Bean and five birthdays over fourteen years Bean AU Words: 2527 *
She’s tiny, so small that she doesn’t even fully fill the cradle of his arms.
Charles takes in his baby’s little button of a nose, the perfect seashell of an ear, the sweep of her delicate eyelashes, her rosy cheeks. He’s pretty sure she weighs less than the trophies he’s held aloft on the podium.
One of the baby’s fists escapes the soft cocoon of her blanket. There’s a thin plastic band adorning her wrist that reads Baby Girl Leclerc.
He touches a finger to the ridge of her knuckles, feather-light. The loop of her hand closes around it with surprising tenacity.
She’s awake and alert, looking up at him with the same intensity with which he’s gazing down at her, his wonderment reflected back at him in her big, slow-blinking eyes. Logically, he knows that he’s little more than a hazy image swimming across her blurry vision, but it still feels a lot like I know you. I remember you.
Of course she does—for months her entire world had been narrowed down to just him, and the timbre of his voice, and the warm steady beating of his heart and the oxygen they both shared. He’s everything she’s ever known; the first person she’s ever met.
It’s an all-consuming, dizzying thought. He hopes he doesn’t disappoint her. He’s not perfect, but he can be better. They did okay, so far, didn’t they, to get to this point.
“Béatrice,” he murmurs. “Chérie.”
one
Charles flies out of Amsterdam on Sunday evening. On the jet, he takes stock: the race was—okay. It could’ve been better, but mostly, it could’ve been worse.
He’d ended up on the podium, at least, but he’s under no illusion that this will have any bearing on his championship hopes—those fizzled out before they ever had a chance to be fully-formed, the garage already resigned to another year of next year.
Bean’s already asleep by the time he arrives at the apartment to relieve Pascale of her babysitting duties. He leaves his bags in the hallway and goes to check on her, like he always does.
She had been asleep long enough now that she had starfished over half the crib. The glow-in-the-dark stars—a staple of his own childhood—form a galaxy overhead, with her at the heart of this makeshift universe. She looks so soft in sleep. He wonders what she’s dreaming about.
✿
The morning sun filters softly through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the nursery. He allows Bean to wake up at her own pace, then guides her through her morning routine as usual.
“Happy birthday, mon petit chou,” Charles says softly after she’s changed and dressed and ready to start her day. He lifts her high above his head, kissing both of her cheeks as she laughs, before settling her on his hip. Though unaware of the significance of today’s date, she easily picks up on the mood, her excitement mirroring his.
There’s a celebratory cupcake waiting for her on the coffee table in the living room, a single candle perched in the center. Charles carries her over, leaning in so she can get a closer look. He watches as she stares at the candle with wide eyes, mesmerized by the flickering flame.
“Are you ready to make a wish?” He gently takes her small hand in his, helping her to understand what they’re about to do.
They successfully blow out the candle, the flame reduced to a tendril of gray smoke. Well—it’s mostly Charles doing the work as Bean lets out an amusing little puff of air in an attempt to mimic him. Still, he claps for her to show her she did well in an encouraging, positive affirmation kind of way. She giggles, clearly pleased with herself, and Charles can’t help but laugh along with her.
six
The Vista jet cruises smoothly through the night sky, the soft hum of the engines providing a gentle, rhythmic backdrop to the otherwise quiet, dimly-lit cabin. Charles sits in one of the plush leather seats, the glow from a single overhead light casting a warm, faint circle around him. Outside the window, the world is dark, with only the occasional twinkle of a distant city or a star breaking through the velvety blackness.
Bean’s curled up on the seat across from him, sleeping off another busy, excitement-filled day in the paddock. The blanket he draped over her has shifted, so he leans over and carefully tucks it back around her, making sure she’s comfortable.
As Charles sits back, he glances at his watch, noticing the time. It’s just past midnight, marking the official start of Bean’s birthday in their timezone. A soft smile tugs at the corners of his mouth as he realizes it’s already her day, and here she is, sleeping soundly, completely unaware.
There’s a perceptible shift in the weight of Bean’s body when she falls asleep—even now, when she sometimes dozes off in his arms and he has to carry her to the car, her limbs going loose like she’s giving her whole self over to Charles. It’s an achingly artless kind of trust.
Tonight, in the quiet cocoon of the jet, it feels as if time has blessedly slowed down, just for a moment. He reaches over and gently brushes a curl from her forehead, careful not to wake her. The soft rise and fall of her breathing is steady and soothing.
In just a few hours, they will land in Nice, where the city lights will greet them as they descend toward the coast. They’ll celebrate her birthday properly then, with cake, presents, and all the things she loves. But for now, Charles is content to sit here in the calm of the night, watching over her.
eleven
Charles retreats to his driver’s room after the Sunday morning strategy meeting, glad for the respite, a moment away from the bustle of the race weekend. He glances at his phone again, his thoughts drifting to his daughter.
It’s her birthday today, and for the first time, they aren’t spending it together. Instead, Bean is miles away at a karting circuit in the south of France, competing in one of the biggest races of her blossoming junior career.
His heart tugs as he imagines her, blonde curls wild under her helmet, focused and determined, not unlike him. He knows this is exactly where she wants to be, doing what she loves, but it doesn’t make the time apart any easier. He’s always been there for her birthdays. Not being there today feels strange.
Charles sighs and taps his phone, pulling up FaceTime. He waits a moment, hoping she’s not on track or too caught up in pre-race nerves.
A few rings later, Bean’s face appears on the screen. She’s sitting in the paddock of the karting circuit, green eyes bright with excitement, cheeks flushed from the heat of the day. The sight of her, even through the phone, makes Charles smile.
“Happy birthday, ma puce!” he says, voice warm.
“Thanks, papa!” Bean grins, her usual exuberance shining through. “Ready for the race?”
Charles chuckles. “Always. But today’s not about me, it is about you. How are you feeling? Nervous?”
“A little,” she admits, pushing a stray curl behind her ear. “It’s a big race, and... I kind of wish you were here.”
His chest tightens at her words. He hates being apart on days like this, but he knows how much karting means to her, and this is an important milestone in her young racing career. “I know, Bean. I wish I could be there too. I’d give anything to watch you race today.”
She smiles softly, though he can see a touch of sadness behind it. “It’s okay. I get it. You’re doing your thing, and I’m doing mine. I mean, it’s kind of cool we’re both racing on my birthday, right?”
“It might be a sign,” he says. “Two Leclercs racing on the same day—it’s got to be good luck.”
Bean laughs, her mood lifting. “I hope so. I’m going for the win today.”
“I am sure you’ll do great,” Charles reassures her. “You’ve worked so hard for this. Just trust yourself and enjoy it, okay?”
She nods, her confidence slowly returning. “Yeah, I will. And you? You better win your race too. It’ll be like an extra birthday present.”
Charles chuckles. “No pressure, huh?”
A brief pause follows. He takes a deep breath. “I’m sorry I’m not there, Bean. I wish I could’ve made it work. But I’m proud of you for everything you’re doing. Always.”
“I know, papa,” she says softly.
A beat, and then: “I miss you.” There’s a startlingly vulnerable expression on her face, eyes big and guileless. “But I’m okay.”
He smiles, feeling a swell of emotion. “That’s my girl.”
Suddenly, someone in the background calls her name, probably one of her karting team members. She looks over her shoulder, then back at Charles. “I have to go now, I think. I’ll call you after the race?”
“Of course. I want to hear all about it,” he says. “Good luck, chérie.”
“Thanks, papa. You too.”
Charles stares at the screen for a long, lonely moment after the call ends, feeling a mess of conflicting emotions.
fourteen
The lights at the hotel’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant have been dimmed for the dinner service. A gentle murmur of conversation floats through the air.
Béatrice’s gaze drifts to the name card that sits beside a bouquet of fresh water lilies—its elegant lettering marking her place at one of those reservation only tables—and then beyond it, at the expansive windows that afford sweeping views of the impeccably manicured hotel gardens, bathed in the moonlight. She longs to excuse herself, to step outside and drink in the night air, but forces herself to stay seated as the first course arrives: a delicate plate of lobster carpaccio, thin slices of tender meat arranged artfully with microgreens, lemon zest, and a drizzle of olive oil. It’s one of those dining experiences where the dish is dwarfed by the size of the plate it’s served on.
The meal is rich and flavourful, as expected, but her sour mood has sapped her appetite. She takes a few bites, then resorts to subtly pushing her food around the plate as her eyes drift to Charles.
He’s sitting next to her, but his attention is elsewhere. She watches as he makes polite, uninspired conversation with sponsors, wearing a practiced smile as he nods along to some business magnate’s stock market analysis. She doesn’t recognize the man, vaguely wonders if she should. He’s like everybody else here, just another face in the sea of well-dressed guests that surrounds them—models, executives, and industry moguls mingling easily, all gathered for Giorgio Armani’s exclusive event. Everyone seems so absorbed in their glamorous world—except her.
The second course is a perfectly cooked filet of beef, topped with shaved truffle and paired with a side of buttered potatoes and seasonal vegetables that looks like it came straight from a painting. It melts in her mouth, but it still doesn’t feel right. She shifts in her seat. The straps of her Chanel ballet flats bite into her ankles.
She understands—these events are important for his career. It’s just. It’s not how she imagined spending her birthday.
Dessert is an intricate chocolate mille-feuille with layers so fine and precise they look almost too perfect to eat. It’s accompanied by a tiny scoop of Tahitian vanilla gelato—and she has to admit, it’s delicious. But the grandeur of it all only makes her long for home that bit more.
As Charles leans in to chat with one of the executives seated beside them, Béatrice glances at her father. He looks handsome, as he always does in formal attire—crisp white shirt and tailored black Armani suit, the smoky, earthy notes of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood lingering long after the conversation has ended. But she can see the faint tension in his smile, the subtle weariness in his eyes. He’s working, even now, appeasing sponsors with casual banter and posing for photos whenever someone approaches their table. He makes the politesse look effortless, but she knows better. This isn’t how he wants to spend the evening either.
She sighs softly, glancing down at her watch. It’s well past 10 p.m., and they’re still at the table, with no sign of the event winding down anytime soon. She twirls a strand of her curly blonde hair absentmindedly, her eyes wandering the room, taking in the unfamiliar faces.
Charles, catching her fidgeting out of the corner of his eye, places a gentle hand on her arm. “Okay, Bean?” he asks quietly, his voice soft with concern.
She nods but can’t hide the weariness in her expression. “I’m fine,” she says, though the truth bleeds through her words.
Charles frowns, guilt creasing his brow. “I know this isn’t how you wanted to spend your birthday, mon cœur. I’ll make it up to you, I promise,” he says, squeezing her hand gently.
Béatrice offers him a small, understanding smile. “It’s okay, papa.”
He nods, his heart heavy as he glances at the surrounding tables. The guests are still engrossed in their own conversations. With a deep breath, Charles makes up his mind. They’ve done their duty, fulfilled their obligation. Now it’s time to leave.
“Let’s go,” he whispers, standing up and excusing himself from the table with polite nods to the sponsors.
Her eyes light up with relief as she grabs her small handbag and follows him out of the restaurant, the cool night air hitting her face and easing the tension she hadn’t realized had built up in her shoulders. A sleek, black chauffeured Mercedes waits at the hotel entrance, the driver opening the door for them as they slide into the back seat. Charles gives her a tired smile as the car pulls away from the hotel, heading towards the airport.
She leans her head against the window as they speed through the quiet streets of Milan, watching the city lights blur past. By the time they arrive at the airport, the weight of the evening has caught up to both of them. The private jet is waiting on the tarmac, ready to whisk them away.
She claims the familiar window seat, and he settles into the seat beside her, leaning back and watching as she makes herself comfortable, curling up and resting her head on his lap, like she used to when she was small. He cards a soft hand through her hair as they lift off into the night sky.
✿
Charles surprises her with a silk Hermès Équateur scarf, the one with the vibrant jungle print. He smiles, watching her trace the shape of each animal with something akin to reverence. And then Sebastian’s just unbearably old school about it, gifting her a curated CD mix of songs he thinks she might enjoy.
They sit on a bench overlooking the Limmat, eating a selection of pastries from a local café—schnecken, with cinnamon and hazelnuts, nussgipfel, and warm, buttery croissants. The water is calm. The pastries melt in their mouths. Béatrice leans against Charles, resting her head on his shoulder, content in the moment. Sebastian sits beside them, stretching out his legs and tilting his face up towards the sun.

Christmas is a time of joy, giving, and gathering. But with such merriment often comes a hefty price tag. Thankfully, there's a simple way to add a personal touch without breaking the bank—budget-friendly Christmas gift bags. These charming packages serve as both a practical solution and a festive addition to any holiday celebration.
The Magic of Christmas Gift Bags
Gift-giving doesn't have to mean expensive wrapping. For consumers, Christmas gift bags offer an economical yet stylish alternative. Available in countless designs, these bags provide a quick solution for those who find themselves short on time. They eliminate the fuss of cutting and taping, making them a popular choice for busy individuals.
Additionally, gift bags are reusable, offering environmentally conscious consumers a sustainable option. Rather than discarding crumpled wrapping paper, gift bags can be used year after year, creating a tradition of their own. This practicality combined with festivity makes them a staple during the holiday season.
Furthermore, gift bags allow for creativity and personalization. Consumers can choose designs that match the recipient's personality or decorate plain bags with stickers and ribbons for a personal touch. This versatility ensures that every gift feels special and bespoke.
Retailers Reap the Benefits
For retailers, stocking budget-friendly Christmas gift bags can significantly boost sales. These items cater to last-minute shoppers looking for quick, convenient solutions. With eye-catching displays, retailers can draw customers in, encouraging impulse purchases that enhance overall revenue.
Cost-effective gift bags also provide retailers with a higher profit margin. By offering a variety of sizes and styles, stores can appeal to a wide array of customers while keeping production costs low. This balance between affordability and appeal is key to maximizing holiday profits.
Retailers can also use gift bags as promotional tools. By offering discounts on bundled purchases or including a free gift bag with certain items, shops can incentivize larger transactions. This strategy not only increases sales but also enhances customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Event Organizers and Festive Flair
Event organizers know the importance of presentation, especially during the holidays. Christmas gift bags serve as the perfect accessory for any festive gathering. They can be filled with small tokens or memorabilia, leaving guests with a lasting impression of the event.
Budget-friendly options ensure that organizers can maintain quality without exceeding budget constraints. Coordinating gift bags with the theme of the event adds a cohesive touch, elevating the overall atmosphere. Whether it’s a corporate party or community gathering, well-chosen gift bags complement any occasion.
Furthermore, customizable bags allow organizers to include branded elements, such as logos or event names. This branding opportunity not only enhances recognition but also creates a keepsake that attendees will treasure long after the event has ended.
Schools & Teachers Spread Holiday Joy
In schools, Christmas gift bags are a delightful way to celebrate the season. Teachers can use these bags to distribute treats and trinkets to their students, fostering a sense of camaraderie and joy among classmates. It's an inclusive gesture that makes everyone feel valued.
Affordable gift bags help stay within limited school budgets. With so many styles available, teachers can choose designs that resonate with children, making the gift-giving experience even more enjoyable. Bright colors, fun patterns, and interactive elements capture the imagination of young students.
Gift bags also offer educational opportunities. Teachers can involve students in decorating plain bags, allowing them to express their creativity while developing fine motor skills. This activity not only personalizes the gifts but also enhances the learning environment with festive cheer.
Charities & Nonprofits Make a Difference
Charitable organizations are always seeking ways to maximize their resources. By using budget-friendly Christmas gift bags, charities can distribute donations more effectively. These bags ensure that recipients receive their gifts in a dignified and festive manner, enhancing the spirit of giving.
Cost-effective gift bags allow charities to allocate more funds toward the gifts themselves. By choosing affordable packaging, nonprofits can focus their budgets on providing essentials and meaningful items to those in need. This thoughtful approach amplifies the impact of their charitable efforts.
Additionally, themed gift bags help raise awareness for specific causes. By incorporating messaging or logos, nonprofits can educate the public about their mission, fostering greater community support and involvement. This dual purpose of function and communication is invaluable for charitable work.
Event Planners Create Memorable Moments
For event planners, Christmas gift bags are an essential component of any holiday celebration. These versatile items can be used in various ways, from party favors to raffle prizes, ensuring guests leave with a tangible memory of the event.
Gift bags offer cost savings without sacrificing style. Planners can select designs that align with the event's theme, creating a seamless aesthetic that enhances the guest experience. This attention to detail sets professional events apart, leaving attendees impressed and satisfied.
Event planners also benefit from the ease of preparation that gift bags provide. Pre-filled bags streamline setup and distribution, allowing planners to focus on other critical aspects of event management. This efficiency is crucial during the busy holiday season, where time is of the essence.
Parents and the Joy of Gifting
Parents often carry the weight of orchestrating holiday celebrations. Budget-friendly Christmas gift bags simplify the process, allowing parents to present gifts beautifully without the hassle of traditional wrapping. This convenience is especially valuable when managing multiple gifts for children, family, and friends.
Gift bags also add an element of surprise and delight. Children are often intrigued by the mystery of what's hidden inside, making the unwrapping experience even more exciting. Parents can enhance this excitement by choosing bags with playful designs that spark curiosity.
These bags teach valuable lessons in sustainability. By encouraging children to reuse and recycle gift bags, parents instill environmentally friendly habits from a young age. This practice not only reduces waste but also fosters a sense of responsibility and stewardship.
E-commerce Businesses Enhance Customer Experience
For e-commerce businesses, presentation is paramount. Budget-friendly christmas gift bags offer an opportunity to elevate customer experience, turning each delivery into a festive event. This attention to detail creates a memorable unboxing experience that customers will share and remember.
Gift bags can be used to differentiate brands in a competitive market. By including a thoughtfully designed bag with every purchase, businesses demonstrate their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. This small gesture can lead to increased brand loyalty and repeat business.
E-commerce platforms benefit from the efficiency of gift bags. By pre-packaging products, businesses streamline their fulfillment process, reducing handling time and ensuring timely delivery during the hectic holiday season. This operational efficiency is crucial for maintaining customer trust and satisfaction.

What Makes a Reliable Non-Basmati Rice Manufacturer?
Non-basmati rice is a staple food in many countries due to its affordable price, versatility, and varying grain sizes. From long-grain to short-grain varieties, it serves as the backbone of countless meals. But what’s the difference between an ordinary supplier and a reliable manufacturer when it comes to non-basmati rice? For wholesalers, retailers, and even consumers, choosing the right rice manufacturer can make a huge difference in quality, consistency, and long-term relationships. This blog will explore the key factors that ensure you’re sourcing from a trustworthy non-basmati rice manufacturer.
Quality Control Practices and Certifications
The foundation of any reliable rice manufacturer is its commitment to quality. Manufacturers with strict quality control processes ensure that each batch of rice meets specific standards for purity, grain length, moisture content, and taste. Look for manufacturers that adhere to international certifications such as ISO 9001 for quality management and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) for food safety. These certifications ensure that the rice is produced under clean conditions and undergoes rigorous testing to remove impurities.
Additionally, quality manufacturers often employ state-of-the-art testing laboratories that analyze rice for contaminants such as pesticides, aflatoxins, and heavy metals. This commitment to food safety ensures that you are getting a premium product that meets global standards.
Consistent Supply and Scalability
A reliable non-basmati rice manufacturer must be able to meet consistent demand, whether you are a small retailer or a large-scale distributor. This means maintaining adequate stock, having capacity for large orders, and increasing production as needed. Manufacturers with extensive farming networks or partnerships with multiple farmers can better guarantee stable supply throughout the year, regardless of seasonal fluctuations.
Scalability is especially important for businesses looking to expand into new markets. A trustworthy manufacturer will have the flexibility to adjust production volumes to align with your growth, ensuring a smooth supply chain even during peak seasons.
Technological advancements in milling and packaging
Modern rice milling and packaging technology plays a key role in maintaining the quality and shelf life of non-basmati rice. Reliable manufacturers invest in advanced milling machinery that reduces broken grains and preserves the natural texture and flavor of rice. Look for manufacturers that use automated sorting technologies to remove discolored or damaged grains, ensuring a more consistent product.
Packaging also matters. Vacuum-sealed or air-tight packaging helps preserve freshness and prevent moisture ingress, which can lead to spoilage or insect infestation. Manufacturers that adopt innovative packaging solutions help ensure that their rice reaches consumers in optimal condition.
Sustainable and ethical sourcing
As consumers and businesses are becoming more aware of sustainability, it is important to work with a manufacturer that values ethical sourcing. Reliable manufacturers prioritize environmentally friendly farming practices, such as minimizing the use of chemical pesticides and adopting water conservation methods. Some manufacturers also support small-scale farmers by offering fair trade agreements, ensuring that local communities benefit from their involvement.
Sustainably sourced rice also tends to be higher in quality, as the plants are grown in healthy soil, without an excessive reliance on synthetic chemicals. Look for manufacturers that openly share their sustainability initiatives or hold certifications such as Fairtrade or Organic to further validate their commitment to ethical practices.
Customer Support and Global Reach
Strong customer support is the hallmark of any reliable non-basmati rice manufacturer. A good manufacturer should provide clear communication channels, timely responses to inquiries, and efficient problem-solving when issues arise. This level of support fosters trust and ensures a seamless business relationship over time.
Additionally, manufacturers with a global reach and experience exporting rice to multiple countries are better equipped to handle the complexities of international shipping, customs regulations, and regional preferences. A manufacturer with a proven export track record can provide invaluable guidance, especially for businesses looking to expand internationally.
Choosing the right non-basmati rice manufacturer isn’t just about considering price. Quality control, supply continuity, technological advancements, consistency and customer support all play a vital role in ensuring you get a great product. By partnering with a reliable manufacturer, you can guarantee that your business will thrive and your customers will be happy.

Scary Season
I have long said that Amazon is one of the most powerful, and popular, search engines. It is my go-to whenever I need to do product research, regardless of whether I have imminent purchase intentions. I figure if Amazon doesn’t have it, then it probably doesn’t exist.
Turns out I was right, because Search Engine Journal ranks Amazon as the third most popular search engine (behind Google and YouTube). I wasn’t making this stuff up after all.
Now comes more proof in the pudding of online shopping: Consumers look to Amazon first when shopping for Halloween goods. Some 44% of shoppers start there. As you have probably now surmised, if someone finds something they like while perusing their selection, you are already in the store so…you may as well buy it.
But wait, there’s more. Retailers have started pushing holiday sales earlier and earlier in recent years, and consumers responded favorably, with Halloween shopping (or pre-shopping) peaking in August. That’s long before these crisp mornings started.
If you also guessed that there is an inverse relationship between age or generational cohort, and proclivity to shop online, you would also be right. GenZers and Millennials are the most likely to shop Halloween online first before stepping foot in a BAM store. And that is IF they ever step foot in a BAM store.
This does not bode well for pop-up shops like Spirit Halloween. Every year these stores open for short-term gigs, typically in recently abandoned retail space. I can only imagine how many former Bed, Bath, and Beyond stores are now stocked with Halloween costumes. Oh, and here’s some trivia you can play at your upcoming Halloween party. Spirit Halloween is owned by Spencer’s Gifts, the mall staple with all the crazy merch. You’re welcome.
The broader takeaway is that Halloween shopping is only one piece of the retail pie, and if this is all part of an emerging norm—earlier and more online—it means the paradigm shift started in the mid-1990s is only getting more entrenched, especially among younger adults. It appears the train not only left the station, but you can’t even hear it anymore as it pounds down the tracks.
With holiday shopping now in full swing, from Target to Amazon and Walmart, there has been a lot of focus on the online arena. Sure, Target and Walmart still need to sell goods in their physical stores, but Target’s new immersive shopping experience makes it all too easy to just stay online to cinch the deal.
While I do not foresee BAM retailing being completely wiped out any time soon—including in what remains of my life—I do see it playing a gradually smaller role. The data bear this out: Older people are less likely to shop, including search, online. The youngest Baby Boomer is now 58, which means they probably have another 20-25 years for sure, maybe longer. That’s a shrinking pool of people, though. There are now 73 million of us, down from the 78 million born between 1946 and 1964. The decline will start picking up speed as time unfolds.
For those who grew up with e-commerce, or, like GenZers, who are digital natives, shopping online is a way of life. It is not an earth-shattering revolution in the way things are done. I truly feel sorry for those of my generation who did not keep up, and now need hand-holding practically every step of the way.
While I’m at it, might I suggest a Halloween costume for my non-evolving peers? How about going as a Digital Native? You might just find you like it. Find it online, of course.

What's driving the surge in tech shares?
A tale of two cities. Tech up 5% and Dividend stocks down 5%. Here's why? $XLK $MSFT $AAPL $XLF $XLE $DURA
By David Nelson, CFA CMT Investors are questioning the rush into mega cap tech at the height of a banking crisis that has rippled through markets in the last two weeks. I think CNBC’s Josh Brown said it accurately. Investors today view many of these large digital companies as consumer staples. The Importance of Portfolio Management Diversification
Portfolio Management Diversification: Why It Matters
Smart investing is not about looking out for the next big winner; it's creating a portfolio that can withstand storms while seizing growth opportunities at the same time. Besides being intuitive, diversification is literally the cornerstone of intelligent portfolio management—it is a methodology tried and tested for balancing risk versus reward.
More than the Basics: Portfolio Diversification
Consider how a tightrope walker with a very long balance pole is better able to resist an unexpected gust of wind. The idea behind diverse portfolio management is similar: it makes the investor resilient to market volatility.
But what is it about diversification that makes this tool so powerful? Basically, diversification is all about placing investments across different classes of assets, sectors, and geographies. When one class performs inadequately, another may perform well, thereby smoothening the overall performance of the portfolio.
The Psychology of Investment Risk
Most investment mistakes can be traced back to either greed or fear. The bitter experience of overinvesting one's portfolio in promising sectors, only to see wealth evaporate during sector-specific downturns, is common enough among investors.
Think of the technology bubble in the early 2000s, or even the financial crisis in 2008; those investors who had their money all in those particular sectors faced complete catastrophes. Diversified portfolios suffered less severe impacts.
Diversified Portfolio Building: The Strategic Approach
Asset Class Diversification
The various asset classes perform differently under different conditions, as explained below:
Stocks provide for long-term growth with a hedge against inflation.
Bonds offer current income with stability.
Real estate provides income and appreciation.
Cash provides liquidity and capital preservation.
Geographic Diversification
Global markets seldom move in tandem. When one region falters, another often flourishes. International diversification captures global growth opportunities while reducing exposure to country-specific risks.
Sector Diversification
Different sectors of the economy have usually exhibited diverging performances in distinct phases of the market cycle:
Healthcare, typically resilient during downturns.
Technology, often leading during growth periods.
Consumer staples, offering stability.
Utilities, offering defense characteristics.
The Maths Behind Risk Reduction
Many studies demonstrate that a well-executed diversification can reduce portfolio risk without necessarily compromising returns. The Modern Portfolio Theory, pioneered by Nobel laureate Harry Markowitz, showed that a diversified mix of low-correlated assets could enhance the return prospect of a portfolio against an available level of risk.
How to Apply Effective Diversification Strategies
Core Holdings
That entails core diversification into hundreds or thousands of securities through the use of broadly diversified market index funds or ETFs. The core positions may make up 60-70% of the overall value of the portfolio.
Add Satellite Positions
To the core positions, add satellite investments in selected sectors, regions, or strategies that complement long-term goals and market opportunities.
Regular Rebalancing
Markets are dynamic, and portfolio allocations consequently drift away from their targets. Regular rebalancing helps to keep the desired risk level and has the potential to improve long-term returns.
Common Diversification Mistakes to Avoid
Over-Diversification
While the process of diversification reduces risk, holding too many securities raises the likelihood of declining returns with incremental complexity. According to studies, one can attain most of the diversification benefits with 20-30 well-chosen holdings.
False Diversification
Diversification is not just about holding a number of investments that move together but, in fact, independently of each other. For example, different tech stocks might seem to be diversified but very often face similar risks and market dynamics.
The Way Forward: Implementation
Efficient diversification requires a thoughtful process and ongoing monitoring. Base the initial steps on a portfolio's current allocation and on identifying the areas of concentration risk. Consider seeking experts in finance who can provide unbiased analysis and recommendations that meet certain goals and risk tolerance.
Remember that diversification is not a one-time decision but a process. Market conditions keep on fluctuating, new opportunities pop up, and circumstances of individuals change. Periodic portfolio management reviews help the approach of diversification retain its focus on long-term goals.

Canned Pasta Market Demand: Key Drivers and Trends
The canned pasta market has witnessed steady demand growth in recent years, driven by various factors such as changing consumer lifestyles, growing preference for convenience, and the increasing popularity of ready-to-eat meal solutions. Canned pasta, which includes products like ravioli, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, and pasta with meatballs, offers a quick, affordable, and long-lasting meal option. This article will explore the demand dynamics in the canned pasta market, examining key drivers, evolving trends, and regional demand variations.
Key Drivers of Canned Pasta Market Demand
1. Convenience and Time-Saving
One of the primary factors fueling the demand for canned pasta is the increasing need for convenience. In today’s fast-paced world, consumers are looking for meal solutions that require minimal preparation. Canned pasta offers a hassle-free and time-saving alternative, making it an ideal option for busy individuals, families with children, and students. These products are quick to prepare, needing only reheating or minimal cooking time, which makes them an attractive choice for consumers looking for easy meal options.
The growing trend of single-person households and working professionals has further contributed to the rise in demand for ready-to-eat meals, including canned pasta. The convenience of having a shelf-stable, pre-cooked meal option at hand has made canned pasta products essential for many consumers.
2. Affordability
Canned pasta is an affordable meal solution, especially compared to fresh, frozen, or restaurant-style pasta dishes. With inflation and economic uncertainty affecting household budgets, many consumers are turning to canned foods to save on meal costs. The low price point of canned pasta products, combined with their long shelf life, makes them an appealing choice for budget-conscious families and individuals. In regions with lower disposable incomes, canned pasta continues to be a staple food item for cost-effective meal solutions.
3. Shelf Stability and Longer Shelf Life
Canned pasta’s long shelf life and shelf stability contribute significantly to its growing demand. Unlike fresh pasta, which requires refrigeration and has a short shelf life, canned pasta can be stored for months or even years without the need for refrigeration. This makes it an ideal product for emergency preparedness, food storage, and stocking up during times of crisis, such as natural disasters or economic downturns.
Consumers are increasingly purchasing canned pasta not only as a regular food item but also as part of their emergency food supplies. The extended shelf life of canned pasta ensures it remains a reliable and convenient choice, providing an added layer of security for households.
4. Increased Consumer Focus on Health-Conscious Options
Although traditional canned pasta products have been criticized for high sodium, preservatives, and artificial ingredients, there is an increasing demand for healthier versions of canned pasta. Consumers are becoming more health-conscious, and many are seeking options that feature reduced sodium, organic ingredients, whole grain pasta, or gluten-free alternatives. These health-conscious options are being increasingly offered by manufacturers to cater to the growing demand for nutritious, ready-to-eat meals.
Health-conscious consumers are looking for canned pasta options that align with dietary preferences such as vegan, low-fat, and low-calorie meals. This shift towards healthier products has driven innovation in the canned pasta market, with manufacturers introducing new variants to meet consumer expectations.
5. Growing Popularity in Emerging Markets
The demand for canned pasta is not limited to developed economies. Emerging markets, particularly in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, are witnessing a rise in the consumption of canned food, including canned pasta. In these regions, the growing middle class, rising disposable incomes, and urbanization have led to an increased demand for convenient meal solutions. As more consumers in these regions seek affordable, quick, and reliable meal options, the canned pasta market is expected to continue growing.
Consumer Trends Shaping Canned Pasta Demand
1. Increase in Snacking Culture
The rise in snacking culture has had a noticeable impact on the demand for canned pasta. Consumers are increasingly skipping traditional meals in favor of quick snacks throughout the day, especially in regions with busy urban lifestyles. Canned pasta is often consumed as a snack, especially products like mini ravioli, pasta in tomato sauce, or macaroni and cheese, which are portable, easy to eat, and satisfying.
Manufacturers are responding by introducing smaller packaging and single-serve portions to cater to this growing snacking trend. Additionally, some canned pasta products are being marketed as ideal for “on-the-go” consumption, appealing to busy professionals and students looking for a quick bite between activities.
2. Focus on Sustainability
Sustainability has become a significant concern for many consumers, especially among younger generations. The demand for eco-friendly packaging and sustainable sourcing of ingredients is rising, with consumers increasingly favoring brands that align with their environmental values. Canned pasta manufacturers are addressing these concerns by opting for recyclable packaging materials, reducing plastic usage, and sourcing ingredients responsibly.
Some brands are also marketing their products based on sustainability claims, such as using organic or non-GMO ingredients, or promoting their products as part of a waste-reducing food system. As sustainability continues to gain traction in the food industry, it is expected to drive demand for eco-friendly canned pasta options.
3. New Product Innovations and Flavors
The demand for innovation in flavor and product offerings is also contributing to the rise in popularity of canned pasta. Consumers are seeking more variety in their meals, and manufacturers are responding by introducing new flavors, gourmet options, and ethnic varieties of canned pasta. Products such as spicy Italian sausage pasta, vegan ravioli, and Mediterranean-style pasta are gaining traction in the market.
Moreover, the rise of premium canned pasta products, which feature better ingredients or more sophisticated packaging, has attracted consumers who are willing to pay a higher price for quality. As the market diversifies, the availability of niche products is expected to fuel the demand for unique and innovative canned pasta options.
Regional Demand Variations
The demand for canned pasta varies significantly across regions. In North America and Europe, where canned foods have a long history, demand remains high, with consumers appreciating the convenience and affordability of canned pasta. However, in regions like Asia-Pacific and Latin America, the market is growing rapidly due to urbanization, changing dietary habits, and an increasing number of working professionals.
In North America, brands like Chef Boyardee and SpaghettiOs dominate, while in Europe, countries such as Italy and Spain have seen an increased preference for canned pasta, despite traditionally strong pasta cultures. Meanwhile, in Asia, canned pasta is gaining traction as part of the broader trend of increasing Western food consumption.
Conclusion
The demand for canned pasta is being driven by factors such as convenience, affordability, health-conscious options, and the growing popularity of ready-to-eat meals. While challenges like health concerns and competition from other meal options exist, there is ample opportunity for growth, particularly through innovation in flavors, healthier products, and expanding into emerging markets. As consumer preferences evolve, the canned pasta market will continue to adapt, offering new and diverse products that cater to the ever-changing demands of modern consumers.
