[ inbox ] ⸻ @blindbastard ⸻ It might be my birthday, but you're the most important person in the room tonight. (for Karen <3)
There's an incredibly important duty of hers to be done today. Of such utmost importance that she had been in the office early. First to get some work done and while Matt may not benefit from the decor she puts up, everyone else who came by would absolutely have to know there's a birthday boy to be celebrated. Foggy teases her for that, the reminder that the man in question is blind, as if they both didn't have faxes they were ignoring to put up some tinsel and add cheer to the occasionally glummy office.
It'll be special this year and every year after, but it's the first birthday that this duty falls on her shoulders not only as his friend or something complicated in between, but as his girlfriend. It's a lot of responsibilty, and she's happy to lead the charge in organizing the celebration. Matt Murdock's not wiggling his way out of a celebration, at his friends and loved ones getting to spoil him and there were plans for a little get together, a few drop bys, over a dinner (nothing fancy; its all of matt's comforts) and a few drinks.
There was no surprising Matt, but he still in good nature smiles when Foggy blows the kazoo and Karen ambushes with a party hat to wear, at least for one picture (okay, she snuck two more pictures for herself) before they got about their day in the office. What work they could get done gets tucked back into their desks, and moved onto the fun part. Dinner, drinks, a few of Matt's other friends invited to drop by and a corner booth of a bar taken over the Nelson & Murock crew.
Her arm had linked around his arm, gently guiding him along and her focus on what Foggy's saying. A joke, big arm gestures, and she's laughing over his story about college Matt and Foggy hijinks and memories. Eventually they moised into the bar and claim their corner, it's there that the tinsel banner she had tucked in purse gets pulled out. With Foggy's help, they stick the banner to the wall which Karen gives the barkeep an apologetic smile but continues to hang up the HAPPY BIRTHDAY, if only because it'd make it easiest for those invited to wish Matt well would find them.
Keeping to her two glass limit, she's sipping on her second rose lemonade (choice of the night) while Jessica is razzing Matt. Her eyes scan over, noting the way that he seems to relax over the course of the conversation. It's nice to simply look at him without notice. After a few moments, lull hits in Matt's conversation and picks up among others and he finds his way over to her. The bar's not romantic, far from that. The music is not quite loud enough to really feel nor is the song really any kind of dance song.
However, a hand is offered out to her and she takes his, decides on the moment to get to her feet and sweep him away. Not far from the others, they only really had the space for this party in this corner booth. Conversations still well within Karen's earshot, but her focus is all on Matt now that she's got him to her again.
❝ Having a good time? ❞ She had asked, voice a little softer and looking up to his face, searching for the first signs that he's happy with all of this, with life and her, his birthday. ❝ I just wanted tonight to be something special, felt important to make sure it was, for your birthday. ❞
It might be my birthday, but you're the most important person in the room tonight.
Her heart skips an extra beat when he turns her words right around on her, her head shakes a small moment with her lips curling upward. Grip tightens, pulling him in and her head moving forward to connect with his shoulder. ❝ Hey ⸺ none of that. ❞

“If you want more representation” okay but what if they did a better job than all the other actors???
Like, with PJO Rick didn’t go “only black people can audition for Annabeth!! Grover has to be Indian! Zeus has to be black!”
No, the actors auditioned, did a good job, and got the gig.
Like instead of crying cause all these white actors didn’t get it, ask yourself if they even deserved the position.
Everything isn’t some “woke” propaganda or “more representation.” They just deserved the job.

part 2!!!! [read part one here]
transcript below the cut arranged into stanzas to help show where the rhymes are:
“that’s why they brought gem in? as a failsafe?” as a pawn.
we were told to point her at whoever we need gone
“gem won’t hurt her allies. …yet.” the curse she carries will
it’s had its eye on her since she lost the other eye
she was specially selected for her hunting skill
it’s quite the high honor. “wow. how generous.” we try
think about it: why does almost no one fight the curse?
“given how fast scott killed skizz last season, i can guess.”
[“any pain you spare your friends, you’ll have to suffer worse”?]
it’s designed to shut down higher reasoning with stress

Me, an author, side eyeing my WIP: you're not going to do anything weird, are you? We've discussed this. There's a plan. We're going to stick to the plan, aren't we?
The WIP: *presents subplot, presents additional conflicts, presents character development, laughs in my fucking face*

i very badly want a double life 2: electric boogaloo but crucially no one is allowed to be paired up with their soulmate from the first one (except ranchers) and also lizzie and gem and mumbo and skizz are there too. anyway here are some pairings i think would be funny or interesting or would please me personally:
mumbo + scar: complete the mumscarian circuit
mumbo + lizzie: statistically the worst players right after jimmy. lizzie died before him once and she can do it again (and take mumbo with her)
grian + jimmy: nightmare scenario for the both of them
pearl + gem: an unfair matchup as they would win no problem but i love them together and i think we deserve them together after the events of secret life
scar + tango: wildly unpredictable. scar takes damage constantly but (almost) always escapes by the skin of his teeth. tango on the other hand has blown himself up before
pair them up best + worst in order (pearl + jimmy, gem + mumbo, scott + lizzie etc) and see if they manage to balance each other out. this takes out some of the randomness but there are still some fun duos i think would come out of it (etho + bdubs, skizz + martyn, impulse + bigb) and i also think pearl could keep jimmy alive long enough to not die first
and for lore reasons:
grian + bigb: lets see how the secret soulmates can handle being real soulmates
scott + jimmy: ok i know the last time they were together jimmy doomed them both with his curse but this time it’ll be different scott’s lucky now
cleo + etho: the progression of divorced with kids > roomies > soulmates tickles me
ren + martyn: i miss renchanting
+ bonus because i have been thinking about who i would want joining the life series a lot. this is who i want to join
doc + anyone really but mostly grian: okay seriously i imagined doc in the life series once and now ive been consumed by the desire to see it. especially with his health linked to grian. think about it. would be fun with ren also for entirely opposite reasons

I'm gonna miss you when you go to heaven 'n I don't.
FRICK IT, i made this about a month ago and worked up some courage to post cuz i'm pretty proud of this ngl. i'm no longer content to simply sit upon this and show nary a soul.
SAD SACK, by the immensely skilled artistic duo comprised of @meanbossart and @barbatusart, has refused to leave the corners of my mind, yall. it lives here rent-free
i definitely have trouble pinning down which of the characters is my favorite, but Stone is easily the one that intrigues me the most. revisiting his chapter causes my art brain to spin around in my skull like a hurricane
guess i'm a fan art guy now. fine by me, man

i think a lot about hot sauce and jeannemary. two young girls so ready to kill and to die. a comparison made all the worse when you recall that hot sauce lost all her family to the cohort, that she can specifically recall fourth style necromancy (using corpses as bombs). a fourteen and thirteen year old that could easily have been on opposite sides of the same front line.

I'm crying laughing, the DVDs are even worse than I remember... Season 1's menus are silent with a single static jpg of the same key character art they use for everything else, and the episodes on the Season 2 discs don't even match what's listed on the box! Absolutely stunning lack of shits given. Truly unparalleled. But I really shouldn't be surprised given... well... everything about how this series has been treated since the very beginning.
Time for a quick ~✨PHANDOM HISTORY LESSON✨~ to give newer/less hyperfixated folks more context for why the graphic novel being as great as it is is such a HUGE deal:
Danny Phantom was one of Nickelodeon's MAIN cartoons, in its time. It was a central pillar. One of the top three or four of their lineup, which is saying something when the competition includes the cultural juggernaut that is Spongebob.
Despite this, and despite its superhero theming making it perfectly marketable, it got basically ZERO official merch.
What little we did get was often ugly and very, very cheap. The dedication at the start of the graphic novel that jokes about collecting the Burger King toys? That's because it was some of the most notable merch the franchise EVER had. (I sadly do not have any of it. There was no BK in my hometown. Here's a pic from the internet, though, to give you an idea.)
If you think I'm exaggerating about that being the most significant physical merch to come out of the series, consider that the first video game had an entire menu option specifically for the Burger King promotional tie-in:
That video game, by the way, was one of only two ever based on the show. The first was an adaptation of "The Ultimate Enemy" in the style of a short sidescrolling beat-em-up, and the second was themed around "Urban Jungle" and (as far as I can tell--I've only played the first couple levels) was an arcade-style scrolling shooter. Both were for the Gameboy Advance, and both are...... fine, as far as cash-grabby video game tie-ins to kids' shows go. This was pretty normal for the time, so I suppose we did okay in that department, actually. They're not GOOD, but they're playable and have at least a bit of effort put into them.
But besides those two video games (plus a handful of simple, long-defunct Flash games on nick.com)? In the decade and a half since the show ended?
Nothing.
No books, no games, no comics, no web shorts--unless you count mega-crossovers with every other Nicktoon (a la Nicktoons Unite), or soulless promotional material like "Fairly Odd Phantom" (which, trust me, despite being the first new DP animation in over 10 years was not even worth the effort of watching).
...I think there was a limited edition FunkoPop once?
So yeah.
A Glitch in Time is not just the first cool, well-made thing we've seen from the franchise in a while. It's the first THING we've seen since the show. PERIOD. And arguably the first worthwhile supplementary material to EVER come out of the show, depending on how you feel about those GBA games and the Nicktoons crossovers.
This franchise is widely beloved even now, almost 20 years after it first aired, and it feels like that fact is now, finally, FINALLY getting some official recognition.
PLEASE read A Glitch in Time. Tell other people about it. The series--no, the fans--deserve this (and more of this, if the folks in charge see enough of a response and decide to grace us with any followup). It's LONG overdue, but better late than never.

Himaruya Bamboo Thicket Blog Posts Link
Hi, today I came across those super old blog posts from Hima on Hetarchive, many of which are apparently still left untranslated. Since I had nothing to do today, I decided to put them all in a doc in order and side-by-side with English translations. Since it's A LOT and I'm lazy, I decided to just put them through ChatGPT lol. It's still a work in progress, atm of writing this I've only done January-March 2008 lol, but anyway if you're interested, feel free to check it out:
I'm learning a lot about Hima like this honestly, like apparently he has ADHD? It's very interesting
And if you happen to know if there was anybody else who tled these elsewhere, please let me know! :)

if you see absolutely anything that has kabru in it. And are unable to stop yourself from making it about L/abru (even when Laios doesn’t even appear or is irrelevant to the content in question!) and reduce kabrus entire deuteragonist-level character into wanting to fuck laios. I’m stealing something out of your house!!!!!
disclaimer: If you ship l/abru and gaf about kabru and don’t do this then this post isn’t about you 🤓

Anyway. Ever think about how Sabine’s planet was destroyed, her people were genocided, and her family was killed by the Empire. Exactly like what happened to Zeb, and Filoni didn’t even let them interact in Ahsoka???
