Headcanons for Tristan and TriLance?

Since Tristan is a Nephilim, both his Demon and Goddess instincts kind of fuck over each other and he'll go through periods where he'll want to bathe in the sun with his Goddess wings stretched out so he can take in the suns rays, or he'll want to snuggle up and sleep in the darkness of his rooms whilst his Demon wings curl around him.

"Oh yes, this one will be delicious." She said, seductively as usual. You stared at the large screen in front of you. You were both sitting with a few other staff members and students watching the first term final exam. Up next was Eraser's battle against Momo and Shoto. " She did have a point. Your quirk was useful for operations that required more delicate handling. Since you had the skills of an owl, and the wings, it was extremely easy for you to follow someone silently and stay quiet. You could turn your feet into owl like claws as well to hold yourself on branches and the sides of buildings. "You could also help students who have trouble with balance."

"Yes, I suppose that is true." You placed your fingers on your chin, humming to yourself and thinking. "Maybe, I'm just not sure that I.." You began to speak, but you heard the door to the room open and close. Before you realized it, All Might himself was standing right in front of you. He was wearing.. a suit? It didn't seem like he felt comfortable in it. He would awkwardly pull on his collar and try to pull it away from his neck. He looked at Midnight.

"Yes, she may be working here soon if I can finally convince her to." All Might sat down beside of you and held his hand out to you.

Are you alright? Your wings are flapping." You realized you were creating somewhat of a breeze behind yourself because your wings kept flapping. Some papers flew about the room. You scrambled and tried to hold them down with your hands.

"I, uh.. yeah! That just happens sometimes! Hehe.." You were mortified. It felt like you were already making a complete fool of yourself in front of him.

"I see." He laughed. "You don't need to hide them, they're uh, nice." He rubbed the back of his head. You didn't expect that he would be a nervous type of person. Your wings fluttered even more hearing him say that to you, and you couldn't control them any longer after that. You blushed hard, pushing your face into Midnight's chest to hide. She giggled at you.

"So, did you change your mind about working here yet?" She asked you, slyly. Looking up at her still blushing madly, you whispered to her quietly.

"I definitely want to teach here." She giggled at you and grinned.

"Oh? Why the sudden change of heart, hmm?" She teased. She knew damn well what the reason was.

"Shut up." You pulled away from her, crossing your arms. You looked to All Might. His eyes were trained on the screen, watching the students. It was easy to see how much he cared for them. You tried to avoid staring, and continued with watching the match. Once that match had finished, All Might stood.

"I guess I should prepare for mine." He stretched his arms upward. "Would you like to walk with me?" You felt like screaming out loud you were so happy.

"Oh, absolutely!" You said excitedly. He held his hand out to you to help you up, like a true gentleman. "Thank you.." He really wasn't doing much of anything, but it was still making your heart race. You both began walking out of the room and down the hall together.

"So, you are going to teach then?" He asked.

"I believe so, yes." You nodded. "If I can have the patience, I will do my best."

"You will learn how to have it quickly and easily, I'm sure." He smiled at you. "Then I will be happy to see you in action."

"I definitely don't have anything flashy, but I think some of the things I know are quite practical." You rubbed the back of your neck. "I just hope I can teach, I've never done anything like this before."

"Maybe we could discuss teaching methods, I'm still fairly new to this whole teaching thing." He laughed. You both approached the door to exit and head outside. Steam started rolling off of his body.

"That would be nice, once I get started anyways." His body started to grow larger.

"Over coffee?" He asked, still with a normal and gentle voice.

"I would love that." His transformation was finished, and his appearance was now that of the #1 hero.

"Well, I'll see you soon, then!" He jumped off the ground, laughing loudly, headed toward the battlefield for his match with his students.

Ok SO, I’ve been following your AUs on AO3 for the past few months and first of all, love it, I love your continuity with metaphors or specific descriptors that span across works, like Grian’s banded wings, glamor as heat haze on tarmac, scott having hair like spun sugar, just AUGHHHH so good I love. Little details like that make me as a writer and ofc fanfic enjoyed foam at the mouth. It’s so vivid I can picture it in my mind, I love the eclectic feel of the undercity, the mechanical lore things like wagons in Traveling thieves or rail carts and labs in TTSBC! Don’t even get me started on the peice about Doc and Etho in the depths, that one is so so good.

And your phenomenal foreshadowing? Like first read through never guessed that avian at Fremeere’s was skizz, but I went back after your recent upload and wow it totally is! Or how first read of TTSBC I never thought the two directors were the same because I hopped around in the reading order, but now it’s wayyy too similar! And now I get why a past and long dead antagonist would have such a specific and recognizable speech pattern… eerie. I love it. Can’t wait to learn more about that storyline!! I wonder how much Tango knows about Doc’s history with the labs and if he realizes the connection after talking with Zedaph. Zedango my beloved! Or just tango content/lore in general hehe. (Also, I find it humorous that Grian and Tango’s boyfriends have almost the same trauma as their dad, lol) Also, love how close the characters are to being reunited in Traveling Thieves!! They’re so close!

Anywhoo, just stopped by to say that Cub is litterally providing scar/Hot Guy with weapons in Scar’s new episode, only to see that you already saw that ofc. I was litterally kicking my feet and squeaking about it bc it’s just like TTSBC and your AU makes me so genuinely happy to read and has me in a chokehold. But the rocket arrows?? That are Hot Guy brand color coded! And expensive and I can see character!Cub being exasperated about scar’s trigger happy use of the rockets in the same way he doesn’t call the lab the Hot Cave, hehe. Or Scar showing off to Grian that he’s not the only one who can shoot sparkly projectiles!

I'm so glad you love my little tells for the characters! Heat haze on tarmac, hair like spun sugar, stuff like that just feels like it helps make a certain trait pop and so I try to make sure every character has at least one of them! I'm so glad you enjoy the mechanical ascept of the AUs! Both TTSBC and TT have their own little things, moving parts that keep the worlds going!

I love trying to layer in foreshadowing when I can! Skizz appearing, but I purposefully didn't tag him as a character because, thanks to avian culture, he doesn't use his name, and so it's not until we get to see from his POV that we actually get confirmation that's him!

I have no idea what you're talking about with the director, tho, because she's totally dead! She died 24 years ago during the Anarchy! Any odd vocal ticks and specific dislikes for hypothesis is completely coincidental and should be, should be, should be disregarded. 😑

Remember that house-burning-down scenario we came up with a little while ago?

I said there was no good outcome, that Sally would die in the house or outside of it, but mayhaps theres a third option.

So the house is on fire and Sally gets dragged out! Let’s say by Eddie, since hes durable (and also has the least amount of self preservation), and also we speculated before that he started the fire on accident, so perhaps its a move of guilt rather then bravery.

Sally sees all the eyes on her, sees that shes outside, and panics. She screams and begins to run, ready to run into the forest and rot with it. Suddenly, Poppy grabs her! She hugs her tightly with her wings and protects her. Her wings are big enough to hide her completely, beside her lil feet, and it calms her greatly.. the others catch on, and don’t pay attention to her to not scare her.

Julie joins Sally in the wing-snuggle :3 then, once everything relaxes, Sally moves in with Julie. She’s still scared of the outside, but she’s much more relaxed now that shes with Julie, not in such a messy place, and perhaps even in recovery as Julie has control over what gets mailed there.

And just as a bonus, if they got married Julie would make her move in hehe- theyd have a nice private wedding in Julie’s house, just the two of them.

(In this world you can be born with magic or be a hybrid)

So first up we have Vyra and she was born with magic. So she studied at a prestigious academy then went out and took on an apprenticeship with this Sorcerer at her place. She needed the money and a place to leave. But slowly she started asking for more and more dangerous stuff (ingredients for bad powerful spells that idk just not great)

So one day the sorcerer tell her to go into the city nearby and 1. find out what people were saying since they’ve been pretty cut off from others and the academy is controlled by a corrupt monarchy. And 2. Get the very hard to get ingredients for her next “project”

So she tells Vyra to go to X person and they will sent them on the journey. But when they do turns out it’s with a a bunch of people who think they are going on a different journey. So as they do she has to inconspicuously gather the materials. As they Heading over on this she realizes like ‘oh shit she is bad bad’ and had been adding to the harm that has happened to the city.

So when they are done like Vyra goes back to the sorcerer and is like here is all your shit I’m done with you. So she garbs everything she can from her work and sprint outta there. But not before the sorcerer grabs ahold of her arm and kinda imprints a magical sigil on her arm. And has controlled animals chase her out. (That is not the last of her she will see…)

So the people that she went on the journey with are actually like all my other ocs but that’s all we get for right now ;)

I’ll tell you a bit about the others tho. VVVVV

So there is Allis, he is a hybrid with some creature with wings and so are most people where he was from, but he was captured for the valuable feathers and now his wing is still healing so he can’t fly without hurting.

He was saved by Ren (hehe I know) who, she is the kinda the leader of the underground group that’s working against the king and the others who think all magicals and hybrids are just evil and should t exist. (She has no magic)

Then there is Mozi, who has a mechanical arm and two mechanical fingers. Um she is kinda backsmith and builds all the weapons and stuff. She’s very handy with a mace.

Mozi works with Tieran who is a “fire” hybrid. They help out in the shop and fuel the fires. They are a very handy lock pick n stuff. They do when going out have to wear a hood n etc cause being a fire hybrid is very noticeable.

And last but not least we have Austrii who is also studying magic. He is where the group gets most there information on people and events. He can get into most places but his real alliance is with Ren.

Mortarion, and how he would work in various ships (chaos edition)

Magnus: Magnus/Morty is the most delicious enemy to lover. There is a thousand possible scenario for those two! Magnus seeking the second most powerful psycher in the family, Mortarion having to deal with witches... There is so much things to write about them! They would balance each other quite nicely too, with Magnus hopeful optimism and Mortarion pragmatism coming up to a more even result. Tho, I think my all time fav scenario, of how they could get together, is this: what if as a child, Mortarion send out a psychic distress signal as he was abused by Necare? And what if that signal was picked up by kid magnus, and a strange, long distance relationship started?

Alpharius Omegon: The hardest one for me to figure out. I can see them being fascinated by how unwillingly Mort is being used by the Imperium, or maybe them being assigned together in the hope their tactic rub off on Mortarion and he get less causality. Sorry, I'm running a bit dry here.

Horus: Horus is, canonically, one of the two primarch Mort has any attachment too. I usually see them as having more of a big bro/lil bro relationship, but it could easily be Mortarion pinning away at him too. Or Horus having that sweet secret romance! You can add some drama to it, and make it so that Mortarion is *Horus* side pieces, and he feel like trash about it. He wants! To be loved!

Angron: Mortarion has the best apothecary, and hate slavery. The Emperor could have given him to Mort in an attempt to help, and I feel like,at the very least, Morty would have been able to find drugs good enough to calm him down a bit, or ease his pain a bit. Angron would have probably seen a friend too in Mortarion, someone that was chained to the Imperium, and who also held no illusion toward their role.

Lorgar: You have unlocked my secret fav crackpair hehe. It's actually, so, so easy to ship them: you make Mort realise that Kor is a piece of shit. Mortarion, with his hatred of abusive dad, would start to do everything to protect Lorgar. And our sweet Urizen would look at him with bug eyes like "is this affection?? I now love you mind, body and soul." They would be a violently intense pairing, that swing between wild fight and incredible tenderness. And if you want to add spice? Lorgar can worship him, as someone choose by nurgle. Nurgle, being a deity of fertility on Colchis, would probably mean sexy time, wich would make their relationship EXTRA messy. All in all, 11/10 one of my fav.

Fulgrim: Fulgrim/Mort is actually really not that far fetch! First of all, they both adore Konrad, so that is a nice starting point. Following that, you basically just need them to sleep together once. Fulgrim, being himself, would make it the most amazing of time, and poor touch starved Morty would be hooked. Completely smitten. Not only that, but while he thing that all the fancy manners of Fulgrim might be for show, he would absolutely respect his working man background and admire his talent at making things. Fulgrim would also adore plumping him up, and pampering this poor, broken soul.

Perturabo: Another one of my guilty pleasure! Take the two big bitter resentful bastard, and see what happen!!! They would annoy the hell out of each others, and yet, they are SO similar. I want Perturabo to talk about birds, while Mortarion show him rare flowers. I want them to be their best and their worst together. The kind that hurt one another, but can't stay away. Toxic in all the right way.

... and Konrad: Listen. LISTEN. If GW is gonna write in the codex that those two are best friends, and then NEVER MAKE THEM INTERACT.... Then it's free real estate, I don't care. They are besty. They know each others secret hobbies. Mortarion enjoy Konrad weird bones craft, and Konrad is touched by the array of carnivorous plants he's gifted with. They cuddles, because no one really get them like each others. They have this tense friendship, like so many queer youngster had. The one were you aren't sure if it's friendship or attraction, were you kind if want to kiss the other, but knowing that it would change everything between you two, you stay put. They see each others at their worst, and only love the other more for it. I adore them. My precious.

A few hours passed when Punz turned around to go back home with the two cherries he had picked for his mother. He looked up at the sky, noticing how darker clouds were beginning to appear. 'Luckily I'm going back, otherwise the rain would have caught me... But... For some reason I have a bad feeling...'

“Sapnap..! Let the fairy out” The half-demon tried to convince his fireborn son. “But dad…” he said, pouting. "No buts sapnap. Let the fairy out, he doesn't know it's safe, so you're scaring him." Bad explained softly placing his hands on Sapnap's shoulders.

After a few seconds, the fireborn sighed. "Okay..." He moved away from Bad a little and closed his eyes, concentrating on pushing the fairy up. In a few seconds the fairy was back in Sapnap's mouth, who carefully removed him from it. Bad picked the small fairy up gently, holding him close as the little boy cried.

Sapnap looked a little guilty, his tail curling around his leg. "I didn't want to scare him, dad..." "Don't worry Sappy, he'll get over it in a while." Bad looked at the clock for a moment before looking at Sapnap again. "And... The clock reads half past three, which means..." Sapnap pouted, crossing his arms. "But dad, I don't want to take a nap...!"

"Sapnap.." The fireborn sighed, heading to his room. “Okay…” Once Sapnap had left the living room, Bad sat down on the couch, carefully inspecting the little fairy. Soon after, he gently began to wipe away the saliva that covered him. "...What's your name, little one..?" He asked as he continued to clean the fairy.

"His name is Dream." Bad looked up as Skeppy walked into the living room, sitting down on the couch next to him. “Dream? That's adorable.” Skeppy chuckled. “His mother named him, while I named his older brother, Punz.” He said, gently stroking Dream's head.

"That's a good name," Bad replies. Skeppy offers him a smile, but can't stop thinking about how his friend and Punz were doing. He hoped they were okay.

Punz flew for a while, finally reaching his home. "Mom, Dream, I'm home!" he said as he stepped inside, placing the cherries on the table. In a few seconds his mother gets out of her room quickly, approaching her son.

The confusion on Punz's face changed to complete concern. "What?!" He exclaimed, turning around, heading to the door of the house. "I'm going to look for him, I'll be back soon." he told his mother before flying off again. “Be careful, Punz…”

The young fairy quickly flew around the area, desperately searching for his little brother. He looked at the clouds, which were darker than before.

It would soon start to rain and he needed to find Dream before it happened. He continued to fly around before veering off. If Dream hadn't been met on the way, it meant that his brother had strayed from the path.

He tried to fly even faster, advancing a few meters, when he saw a human house in the distance. A thought that he would not want to be true crossed his mind when he saw the house. ‘Maybe Dream had been seen and caught by the humans that live in that house…?’ 

Punz shook his head, there was only one way to know. He flew quickly but when he had a few meters to go, it began to rain heavily, soaking his wings completely and causing him to fall to the ground hardly.

Slowly and shakily he rose from the ground, his body sore from the fall. He tried to move his wings to fly but they were completely wet. He walked closer to the house, carefully stepping onto the terrace to get out of the rain.

He didn't want to risk entering the house while his wings were wet, as he didn't want to be caught by the humans who lived there. He hid in a part of the terrace and once he was sure that the humans would not see him there, he closed his eyes. He was really tired...

Skeppy suddenly got up from the couch where he was sitting next to Bad. “Skeppy? Are you okay..?" Skeppy looked at him for a moment in silence before answering. "Yes... but... For some reason I feel like I have to check the terrace..."

Bad frowned in confusion, looking at the window. “But it's raining Skeppy, if the wind blows you could get wet..” Skeppy gave him a small smile before starting to head towards the entrance. "Don't worry, it will only be a moment." he finally answered walking out of the living room.

Skeppy walked down the hall, before long arriving and opening the front door. He walked slowly around the terrace, not noticing anything strange until his eyes noticed something in a corner.

He approached slowly, kneeling down once he was in front of it. His eyes widened as he recognized the small figure. ‘Punz..? What is he doing here..? Maybe looking for Dream...?' he thought as he carefully picked up the small body, noticing how cold and wet he was.

'So got you in the rain, huh..?' Skeppy held the small boy gently against his chest, walking back into the house and shutting the door close with one hand. He slowly made his way back to the living room, sitting next to Bad again.

The half-demon looked at the figure Skeppy was holding. "Skeppy...? Who..-?" "This is Punz, Dream's older brother, who apparently was looking for him but got caught in the rain.” He interrupted Bad before he could finish his question.

“Oh.. Poor muffinhead… I hope he doesn't catch a cold…” “Don't worry, he'll be fine, he just needs to rest. Although we will have to calm him down and explain everything to him when he wakes up…” explained Skeppy. Bad nodded, directing his gaze back to Dream.

It was just a matter of waiting.

WTTT cryptid/animal hcs cuz I'm bored. Also these might make absolutely ZERO sense whatsoever, but thats fine.

New York:

Ive decided that his cryptid/animal form is a blue jay/cat hybrid. Why? Idk tbh. We as a fandom have decided that he is a cat in human form, and the blue-jay is apparently one of the most common birds in NY (and theyre pretty as hell-). I dont really have a good reason lmao. He has the wings of a blue jay (along with some feathers around his back/neck/torso) and cat ears and tail (tho his tail has feathers on it that spread out to look like a blue jay's tailfeathers.) and claws. Also his eyes are gold and his pupils are slits :3. His claws come out of the base of his fingernails, almost like Wolverine's. His speed and agility is increased quite a bit, he can climb even better, amd hear things that he wouldn't normally be able to hear.

Louisiana:

The little voices in my head have all come together and decided that he's a gator/wolf hybrid. Wolf cuz ✨Rougarou✨ and gator cuz why tf not. He has wolf ears and tail, and gator scales on his back/neck/forearms, as well as a bit of his torso. His eyes are a bright yellow and he has slit pupils like an alligator. His teeth can very from being all sharp, or just his canines. His strength, speed, stamina, swimming and hearing/smell abilities all are increased.

Texas:

I just do what the little voices in my head tell me to. He's a deer/northern mockingbird hybrid (cuz deer are the most widespread large mammal in Texas and his state bird is the northern mockingbird). He has antlers and deer hooves and tail, as well as mockingbird wings. His hearing, speed, and jumping abilities are all increased. He's also very alert and gets scared very easily (easier than usual, and he hates it). He definitely headbutts Alaska and California and others that he's able to (some of the taller states).

Massachusetts:

To be completely honest, I haven't though too much, but I'm thinking maybe a raccoon or a chickadee. Raccoon cuz hehe funny, and chickadee cuz the black-capped chickadee is his state bird. This might be one I have to think about more tbh.

Gov:

He's an eagle, no questions asked. I mean- for God's sake he's the closest thing we have to full personification of America, so yes. He has large eagle wings and bright yellow eyes with slit pupils. His legs from the knee down can either be like eagle's legs/talons, or they can be normal, and he has talons instead of fingernails. He has feathers along his neck/back and a long the sides of his face. His speed and strength are both increased.

Alaska:

Again, the little voices are telling me that he's a polar bear/moose hybrid. Pretty much most of him is par bear, as in he has white fur on most of him, he has the claws, and white bear ears and tail and the tips of his hair are white. The moose part of him is literally just a pair of moose antlers. And his strength is heavily increased (not that that was necessary-). He has 100% headbutted Texas back and sent him for a trip.

California:

He is ✨grizzly bear✨. It just makes sense. He has the bear ears, tail, and claws. And fur along his back, torso, neck, forearms, and legs. Also he's like 10x stronger (again, not necessary :') he's already buff enough) and has definitely thrown Texas a few times.

Nevada:

Big horned sheep. He has ram horns, the legs of a ram, and a tail. And he definitely headbutts people. For funsies.

Colorado:

Basically the same as Nevada. Also he gets the munchies cuz he's high 24/7 and eats literally anything. Chair? Munch. Plastic? Munch. Rock? M u n c h.

Florida:

That's not even a question lmao. He's an alligator. He has the yellow eyes and slit pupils, alligator scales on his arms/back/legs/neck. And he's a lot stronger and can swim faster.

New Jersey:

He is a demon/devil hybrid, no questions asked. He has elf-like ears, devil horns/tail/wings, bright red eyes, sharp teeth, and black patches all over his body.

Rhode Island:

Hehe. He's a raccoon cuz i said so. And nobody is changing my damn mind. He has the floofy tail and ears and claws and teeth. He is angy short raccoon :3

So Serial Designation B was apart of an old squad, consisting of her, SD-U, and SD-I. Though eventually she couldn't get oil in time, so she overheated and died. Up until Cantor found her, they had been experimenting on dead drones and decided to test on B as well! Cantor had an interest in bees at the time due to his botany so he used it as inspiration for B's design! With the modifiers, B has a longer and thinner tongue, antenna to detect things, extra pairs of eyes, extra arms, a thorax, and most importantly - the abillity to turn water into oil. Though she can only do it to self-sustain herself.

Then theres Serial Designation R, who was apart of the OG squad in canon Murder Drones. She was used as a living shield for the others, and was deemed so unimportant she had no records in the company and the rest of her squad didn't know her name (N did try to cover it up by calling her nicknames such as "Buddy" or "Pal" or such though). Eventually she decided to finally leave when J tried to us her to block Uzi's railgun. J yanked on R's tail and ripped it off. Then R had to use their wings to block the blast, which caused a lot of bruising and such. She had enough and abandoned her squad. She was a loner for a while, before Cantor found her. He offered to replace her tail and to let her stick around, and she accepted. She joined the squad with B, Cantor, U, and I. And yeah :3

then theres Cryp WHICH NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT SOB (That is totes my fault tho i dont talk about them). Cryp was one of the first, if not the first drone Cantor tested/experiemented on. or.. should I say drones. Cause Cryp is a fusion between two! Cantor took the body of a worker drone and a disassembly drone and mashed them together. Cryp was originally functioning like any other normal drone, but shut down before R came/a short while after (still figuring the specific time frame out). Sometime in the future though, Cryp powers back up. Sorta? Her systems are offline.. and its a complete mystery on how she's able to function. Cantor suspects its because he might of gotten a worker drone with the solver, so had a zombie drone and a disassembly drone fuse, and along with his own coding it caused them to be able to function without their systems being online.

Oh also theres a lot of angst with B and Cantor's relationship, and B, Cantor, and Cryp's relationship. Buuut i wont get into that hehe.

Heyaaaa! ✨ Oh man! XD I think i’m pretty basic in that spectrum🤫😂

I think one of the first tropes I really love reading is the children of enemies coming together to break the ‘hate’ the families build up for another.. (like AU’s where both Oscorp and SI exist and Peter and Harley just both run around as friends- completely disobeying their parents)

I’m also a huge fan of Vigilante helping heroes out and then them just starting to love their vigilante to the point that they stop hunting them through the city and just start teaming up more and more-

I’m also weak for the Peter Parker goes on a field trip trope😂😵‍💫; funnily enough I was never able to write one myself since I just stop in the middle 🥹

Oh! Oh! And Peter got kidnapped as a child and is Tony’s Child- I enjoy the build up in these too ✨🤫

Hm, I really enjoyed Vigilante!/Villain! Tropes (Like in the MHA fandom) where they make the characters.. well more understandable, I guess?

And for the last… sassy Peter- Sassy Spiderman and Sassy Peter. GIVE ME THE JOKES AND GIGGLES MAN! Where has it all gone!?? Give me pranks and sillies and I’m in, 100%, you have my attention under a millisecond XD

Basically I’m a sucker for Vigilante/Villain main characters and the heroes slowly breaking through to them or the other way around 🥹 I just think these are usually very well written since there’s a lot of fluff, fighting, angst and understanding scenes between all the characters very well mixed throughout the story 😌

And sillies. Always. The sillies are the best damn it ✨

Aside from these though I’m in love with OC stories and when there’s very thought through details in the story.

Like Peter having a habit of walking on the ceiling because it’s more comfortable, or making hanging mats with the webs, enjoying the dark more thank to the hypersensitivity… etc or Avians; the wings, vanishing through magic? Or into the back? Or to a Cape? Into a tattoo?

I think we had a different brand than hello fresh specifically, but yeah. It can be a bit pricy compared to groceries where you live, but it's probably cheaper than takeout all the time (depends, check for yourself, and remember you're also paying for convenience). Those services are great tho if you're a teen/young adult who wants to learn to cook or become more comfortable in the kitchen (gotta practice those knife skills to get 'em sharp after all, hehe), but are daunted by the task. I found that I could pretty much do it all by myself, but if I fell behind and something needed doing while I was still busy with another step I had dad on standby to cover something. I could just call him into the kitchen and order him around like a real chef, lol! Like, "Watch the stove," "Chop these onions," or even one time "How much salt do I add to, 'salt the pasta water'?"

Btw, don't be afraid to look up 'stupid' questions like that - these recipes may be mostly beginner friendly but not everything is as intuitive as people think. I'm sure every cook has had to look up at least one obscure unit/method/ingredient before, like "what does julienne mean?", or "how to use (kitchen tool)" and I probably would have done that more if I hadn't taken two cooking classes in high school. Otherwise, you could just wing it and see how it turns out if that's more your style! I'm too over-cautious to do that tho. More power to you, since you'll be brave enough to experiment sooner!

PRO TIP: in order to not get swamped by all the steps needing to be done at once and start panicking like I did, here's a few things to help avoid that!

GET THE PREP DONE FIRST BEFORE COOKING ANYTHING!!! I know you think that you'll have time while it's in the oven, but you won't because you're too slow with the knife still (which is good, do it right before you do it fast) and you're probably supposed to be doing something else during that time anyway (usually making the sauce on the stove so it can be so it can be hot and ready when the stuff in the oven is hot and ready). So many times I had to call in backup because I was still cutting when the timer went off and I knew if I didn't hurry something would be cold by the time everything else was done. Don't do what I did! It's better to stand around waiting for stuff to cook than to be overwhelmed by the workload. And besides - there's always something to be done. Cleaning as you go is important but you could also set the plates out or something.

Actually, before you even touch the food, read through the recipe and play it out in your head. It's weird at first but trust me, the more you cook the more you'll get used to how long each step will take. So when you act it out in your head you might catch that certain things are going to take longer, or, "oh, I'll have to wash my hands a lot because I'm touching raw meat" and allot more time for things like that that aren't in the recipe.

If possible have someone else on standby to call in a panicked tone to come get the potatoes out of the oven before they burn. They do not have to be a good cook as long as YOU are a good director!

When all else fails, do your best not to panic. Or at least panic constructively. If everything needs to be done at once, get the cooking stuff FIRST and leave the cutting board alone until you're sure nothing's burning. Take stuff off the stove/out of the oven if need be and finish cooking/heat it back up later. It may not be perfect, but it'll be edible and probably still taste good anyway. If you flail a bit, that's fine. Professional chefs on tv flail and they've been doing this for years, so don't worry. It's fine, you're fine, everything is fine. Just work one problem at a time.

And if you completely muck it up and have to trash everything (which is not as likely as you think, calm down anxiety)– shrug it off and order a pizza. You deserve it after all that stress and you can just try again next time, learning from your mistakes. Shit happens, food/money gets wasted, and we try try again. Welcome to adulthood!

hey jsyk while hellofresh is dummy expensive and i wouldn’t reccomend it if you already know how to cook (if you’re a beginner like i was when i had it for 3 months, then it’s worth it), you should know that ALL OF THEIR RECIPES are free on their website and they all fuck hard

i will say that all the cooking instructions for veggies are pretty much the same (season with salt + pepper and roast on the top oven rack at 425F), but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

that being said, it also introduced me to methods i wasn’t at all expecting. i would have never thought to use cream cheese in my meat sauce, and now all my friends are constantly asking me to make my special rigatoni.
