hi! i was wondering if i could request a spencer x fem kindergarten teacher! reader who has to be interviewed by the team when something happens to one of her students (they find him) and spencer sees her and is just like in love immediately. thank you so so much!
kindergarten crush | S.R.
when one of your students goes missing, the BAU sends the A-team to ask you some questions
who? spencer reid x fem!reader category: fluff content warnings: allusions to child abuse/endangerment but nothing detailed, kindergarten teacher!reader, spencer is smitten, emily is such an older sister, average cm case stuff word count: 1.86k a/n: ugh if you know how much i love teachers then you know how much i loved writing this!!!! tysm for requesting!
“Don’t teachers leave school when it ends?” Emily asked, following the secretary through the elementary school hallways.
The secretary glanced behind her to make sure Spencer was still following, “Contract hours end at four in the afternoon, which is about twenty minutes after the last bell,” she responded. “Some teachers are in charge of after-school clubs or they’ll stay to grade or plan for the next day, but the rest head home at the end of the day,” she continued.
Emily nodded in understanding, “And when does Ms. Y/L/N usually leave for the day?”
For a moment, the secretary’s resigned expression faltered to one of concern, “Once all of her students leave for the day.”
“Is that usually at a different time every day?” Spencer asked, shoving his hands in his pockets as they turned another corner, the walls were coated in colorful flowers with the names of what he could only assume were the kindergarteners scrawled on them.
There was nothing but a sigh from the secretary as she considered her answers, “That might just be a better question for you to ask her.” She continued leading the way until she stopped in front of a door that was being held open by a doorstop, knocking on the door, she peeked her head in, “Y/N?”
From where he was standing, Spencer could see your head peek out from beneath a desk, but once you recognized that you had unexpected guests, you stood up straight, “Oh, hi,” you greeted, hastily walking around the clusters of tables as you made your way to the door.
“Y/N Y/L/N?” Emily asked, pulling her credentials out when you confirmed your name, Spencer followed suit, “We’re Agent Prentiss and Dr. Reid with the FBI’s behavioral analysis unit, do you have the time to answer a few questions about a case we’re working on?”
The bright smile that had initially been on your face quickly fell as you eyed the FBI credentials in front of you, “Oh, Cody,” you murmured. Stepping to the side, you gave the two federal agents space to enter your classroom.
Prentiss thanked the secretary before stepping into your space, “Oh, it’s colorful in here,” she said.
“It’s a kindergarten classroom,” Spencer responded quickly, “Studies show that there’s a link between bright colors and brain development, so these colors are probably conducive to a productive learning environment.”
He went over to the side of your classroom, watching you as you nervously wrapped your arms around yourself, “Thank you?” You said quizzically, not sure if you should take what he was saying as a compliment, “You are here about Cody, right? Cody Jenkins?”
Spencer nodded, “We are, you knew immediately, though.”
You moved your hand to cover your heart as if it was racing, “I was worried when he wasn’t here yesterday, but I knew when I didn’t see him today that something was wrong.” Your eyes flickered between Emily and himself, waiting for either one of them to say something, “Oh my god, is he okay?”
“Why were you so worried when Cody didn’t come to school for two days?” Emily asked, tilting her head to the side, raven black hair catching in the fluorescent school lighting.
Sitting down at your desk, you sighed, “Cody loves school. He’d never miss a day unless it was absolutely necessary – I’m the one who brought the first concern to the administration that there might be problems at home, but…”
Raising her dark eyebrows in curiosity, Emily shared a look with Spencer, “But what?”
Watching you, Spencer noticed the way you nervously fiddled with a beaded bracelet on your wrist, although he couldn’t quite make out what the lettered beads spelled, he was able to deduce that the bracelet was important to you. “What’s on your bracelet?” He asked, leaning forward and placing his elbows on his knees, he craned his head to try and read it on his own.
“Oh,” you said, looking down at the bracelet as if you needed reassurance that it was still there, “A student made it for me a long time ago. When I was still a student teacher,” you looked at the beaded creation fondly, “The mascot was the dolphins, so it just says ‘dolphin’. Spelled with an F, of course, because she was four.”
Once he knew what the bracelet said, he was able to make out the words, even noting the dolphin charm at the end of the word, “You care a lot about your students,” he said, stating the obvious, but the words seemed to put you at ease. “What do you know about Cody’s home life?”
Your eyes widened as you looked back up at Spencer and he tried to make himself seem as friendly as possible. “I know his parents have had some trouble – his dad has a bad history, as I’m sure you know, but his mom is a good person,” you said, reaching your hand up and scratching the back of your neck.
“But she never left Cody’s father,” Emily said questioningly, seeking confirmation more than anything else.
Crossing your arms in front of your stomach, you shrugged, “I’ve never been in that situation before, I don’t get to speak on the difficulty of leaving, but I can tell you that she’s a good person – she loves her son.”
“You care a lot about your students,” Spencer noted aloud, he looked around at the clusters of tables – each table was stocked with the same supplies. You even had a snack station at the back of your classroom.
Quickly, you nodded, “I don’t believe in kids getting a lesser education just because they don’t have the money or the support system at home. I do what I can,” you admitted. “Do you… do you think Cody’s dad did something to him?”
Sadly, Emily affirmed your question, “He’s a person of interest in the case.”
Pressing your lips in a thin, white line, you slouched back into your office chair, “Sometimes I wonder if there’s more to do. The state requires me to teach these kids about stranger danger, but last year a majority of AMBER Alerts that went out were for family abduction.”
“I’m sorry that you know that, Ms. Y/L/N,” Spencer told you.
You brushed off his apology, “For eight hours a day, five days a week, it’s my job to keep these kids safe – even if that means knowing things that I don’t like.”
Both Spencer and Emily accepted this, and they continued to ask you a few questions about what you knew about Cody. From your point of view, he was just a kid trapped in a bad situation, and he couldn’t help but wonder if it ever hurt you to send him home at the end of the day.
As the two of them left the elementary school, he shook his head in disbelief, “She made three reports on the father, and none of them were taken seriously by the school.”
“I know, Reid,” Emily commiserated, “So, the teacher?”
Her question came when the two of them piled into the SUV, giving her a bewildered look, Spencer furrowed his brows, “What about her?”
Emily scoffed, “’You care so much about your students,’” She said in a mocking voice, taking one hand off the wheel and placing it on her chest, “’Oh, I’m so sorry that you have to know that information’. What was that about the colors in her classroom?”
Rolling his eyes, Spencer sat back in the passenger seat, “Okay, first of all, I do not sound like that. Second of all, I was building rapport – you should try it sometime.”
She chuckled from the driver’s seat, tossing a piece of paper in his general direction before placing her hands near the bottom of the steering wheel, “Here, this is for you.”
“What is it?” He asked as he took the paper and unfolded it.
Humming, Emily didn’t even look as she responded, “I wrote down her room number for you, so you can go ask her out once this case is over.”
Your door was closed when he got there and he wasn’t quite sure if he should knock or just give up. It wasn’t a far drive to get to your school from Quantico, and if he could ever work up the courage to make the drive again, he could always try then.
Lifting his hand to knock, he hesitated again, opening his palm and letting his hand drop to his side. “This is ridiculous,” he mumbled to himself, taking the sticky note that Emily had ‘gifted’ him and triple-checking the room number as if his memory and your name on the door weren’t enough confirmation.
Giving up, he turned around, stuffing the paper in his pocket as he did so, and almost running into you in the process, “Oh!” You said, stumbling back and taking a moment to reorient yourself before meeting his eyes. “Oh,” you repeated, softer this time, “Dr. Reid, it’s nice to see you again.”
“Spencer,” he corrected and immediately cringed. “I mean, I’m not here in any professional capacity, so… you can just call me Spencer.”
Flashing him a bright smile, you grinned in response, “It’s nice to see you again, Spencer.” You proceeded to tell him he could call you by your first name before inviting him into your classroom.
Looking around the room, the colors of the space once again made him feel welcome, “You’re here late,” he observed, looking up at the clock and noticing that it had passed your contract hours while he stood outside your door.
You nodded, “It’s the first of the month tomorrow, so I need to switch over my calendars and everything.” You went to pick up a dry-erase marker from the whiteboard, “Um, have you… did you find Cody?”
“Yes,” he responded immediately, remembering the excuse he had given the team when he told them he was going back to visit you. Morgan and Emily weren’t likely to let him forget. “He’s safe, and it looks like he’ll be able to stay with his mom,” he informed you, relishing the way his words put you at ease.
Any remaining stiffness in your stature faded, and the weight of your missing student was officially off of your shoulders. “Thank you – and thank you for coming back to let me know,” you said, putting your hands behind your back, the two of you seemingly at an impasse.
Taking a deep breath Spencer braced himself, “I actually didn’t come back for that. No, I mean, I did. I wanted to let you know that Cody was safe because you were worried and he’s a kid so obviously that was something that I thought you deserved to know since-“
“Spencer?” You said quizzically, smiling at him as he rambled on about your previously missing student, “What else was there?”
His eyes widened as you smiled at him, “Would you want to go out? With me?”
Your smile dropped from your face, and he began to emotionally prepare himself to lay face down on his couch tonight, but what you said next surprised him, “Yeah, I’d like that.”

I am SO proud to have finished this!! Originally written for @opalsong's pensive project in 2021, several years later I actually put it together into a more "traditional" podfic since I loved the found footage narrative so much. Here's a little sample of what you're in if you check it out!
Cody/Kit Fisto, Kix + Venom, Fox + Padme | 40 minutes
Thanks so much to everyone who helped voice various parts including @vexbatch for the cover art. I'm grateful for their patience and encouragement as I procrastinated working on this for the past uhhh at least 3 years. Then voicecast of @opalsong @mistbornhero, myself, @kittonafoxgirl, @reena-jenkins, pezzax, @litrapod, @kbirbpods, @kingtyson @legonerd @melancholymorningstar @flowerparrish @pxssnelke @devilwithabirddress Djapchan and mulberry_graceful

Spitballing ideas for other Marvel (and DC and maybe Image) Comic Book analysis rambles. Let me know if any of these pique your interest over the others.
Runs/stories I love that need more attention, though still going to give critical analysis to:
Bill Mantlo Hulk
Really anything big written by Mark Gruenwald including his Captain America run
From The Ashes Era X-Men
Gail Simone Deadpool
Gail Simone Wonder Woman
Chip Zdarsky Spectacular Spider-Man
Avengers Twilight
Ann Nocenti Beauty and the Beast
Walter Simonson Fantastic Four
Kurt Busiek Avengers
Untold Tales of Spider-Man
Kurt Busiek Thunderbolts
Roger Stern Spider-Man
Duggan and Posehn Deadpool (not Duggan’s solo run which is an important distinction)
Mark Waid Daredevil
George Perez Wonder Woman
Batman Zero Year
Geoff Johns Wally West Flash
Astro City
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Spider-Girl
Fourth World Saga
Jeff Smith’s Bone
Kurt Busiek Superman (you can tell I like Kurt a lot)
The Totally Awesome Hulk
Jed MacKay Moon Knight
Abnett Nova
Annihilation Saga
Justice League International
Machine Man (both Jack Kirby and Tom DeFalco)
Alyssa Wong Deadpool
Probably anything by Cody Ziglar
Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom Triumph and Torment
Books of Doom
Kelly Thompson Captain Marvel
Doug Moench Moon Knight
Ryan North Secret Invasion
Jason Latour Spider-Gwen
JMS Thor
Far Sector
The Power of Shazam
Runs/stories that I don’t like and think are overrated, and want to talk about why:
John Byrne Fantastic Four (gonna be honest I could make a whole blog dedicated to dissecting this one hooh boy)
The Sentry
Peter David’s Hulk
Spider-Man 2099
The Court of Owls
Hickman’s Avengers/Time Runs Out
Spider-Man: Blue
The Infinity Gauntlet
Stan Lee Silver Surfer
Geoff Johns Green Lantern
Runs/authors/topics in comics that are fairly well known but I want to take a different angle:
Ms. Marvel and the weird translation to MCU
Stan Lee and the legacy of whine
Rebirth Superman: better and worse than you think!
Kang The Conqueror: Deeply underrated villain, but absolutely missed the point in the MCU.
Marvels: How issue 5 became a harbinger of doom for Spider-Man
Paul Jenkins Spider-Man: High highs, low lows.
Nick Spencer Spider-Man’s good attributes
Actually Great What If stories!

"Dennis, how are you?" His assistant smiled as she entered Dennis Dutton's office. Dennis is Kiera's older brother, who is also a lawyer and a real estate broker who works with different agencies across the states of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. Since he had graduated college, he had always referred to himself as the "black sheep" of the Dutton family. Of course, he always blamed himself for always finding an excuse to come around unless he was needed.
"I'm doing well. You?"
"I'm okay. Here's that file you asked for," She smiled. "Are you aware of the recent update that was done several months ago to your family trust?"
Dennis furrowed his brows, "No?"
"Oh, well I hate to be the bearer of bad news..."
He huffed as he took the file from her hand, opening it up to see the official land deed for his family's ranch now forwarded to Simon and Kiera Riley. "Who the hell is that?"
"Simon Riley? That's your sister's husband, sir."
"Now that is shocking," He scoffed, looking through the files and pausing once his breath haltered. "M-My father passed away?"
"I'm so sorry, Dennis. I-I thought you knew-"
"-I do now. What baffles me is that he didn't leave the ranch in my name like he promised and instead just hands it over to some guy Kiera married."
His assistant cleared her throat, "Do I need to get you anything?"
"Now that you mention it, can you get me the number for Phillip Jenkins? He's the capital developer for Teton Valley."
"Yes, sir. Be right back." She nodded, leaving Dennis to tend to his thoughts.
That fucking bitch, he grumbled to himself as he pinched the bridge of his nose. I'll be damned if you can keep the ranch to yourself.
"Sir, Phillip is on line three for you." His assistant chimed in, opening the door slightly to inform him of the news.
"Thanks," He mouthed at her before picking up the phone. "Thank you for your time."
"Thank you, Dennis," Phillip assured over the phone. "What can I do for you?"
"Are you still planning to build a subdivision close to the Teton Valley?"
"Yes, I have big plans for it," Dennis could hear Phillip smiling on the other end of the phone. "I've been meaning to call you over the past year regarding your family's ranch. With a property as big as Rhode Island, by chance are you looking to sell?"
"Well, that was the idea, but I've got a few bumps in the road on my end regarding that."
"It was implied that you were the new owner of the land since your father passed away?"
"As much as I wish it were true, it's not. My sister and her husband own it now."
"Is that right? Well, can you direct me into contact with her?"
As much as I'm not too fond of my sister, that's a bad idea, Dennis sighed to himself. "Actually, I have a better idea. Are you available for a meeting this Friday?"
"Of course. I'm in Colorado until Thursday and I will fly into Wyoming Friday morning. Does three o'clock sound fair?"
"Sure. Do you know where my office is in Cody?"
"Who doesn't know where your office is, Dennis?" Phillip chuckled. "I'll see you then."
Dennis nodded before ending the call, resting his elbows on his desk after loosening the collar of his shirt. That ranch won't be just yours, Kiera.
He knew he was going to have a feud on his hands.
That same day, Kiera was in the office of her own as she had finally felt comfortable in her new position as head of mergers and acquisitions at for a company called Jasper Collins Equities, a second-in-command to a man named Robert Collins - who was good friends with her father as well as going to college with Laswell's wife, Kiera had great odds with getting on quick with the company in only two months. "He sure is building something..." Kiera grumbled through the phone as she gazed through her office window, looking at the rugged mountain landscape towards the west. "Of course, he didn't, he's so full of shit that he could cough and his ass would talk."
"Well, I wouldn't worry too much about it, love."
"I'm not. That's why I'm degrading their stock and buying it for cheap." She breathed a chuckle.
"Have the kids been giving you any trouble?"
"Nope. They quite prefer being watched by their mother instead of some girl that works at the station." She huffed.
"Love, I thought we crossed this bridge already," He sighed, frowning, hating that she kept bringing it up after another heated argument the following evening after she had confronted him about it, but he understood. Especially with getting the cold shoulder from his wife since she had found out two months prior, refusing to let the twins go with Simon to the office when he wasn't on patrol, to making him petty lunches, and not letting him touch her. It wasn't that she hated him - of course she couldn't - but she was still hurt that he had chosen to lie to her when she simply wanted reassurance.
That hurt her more than anything.
Even with that, they never went another day without telling each other I love you.
"You know I've had them for my entire day unless I had a meeting. I only asked her to because she mentioned she was a babysitter and I would've rather trusted her than the other lass up front," He explained. "I thought you forgave me about that."
"Oh, I did forgive you, but that doesn't change the fact that you still lied, Simon." She huffed, the memory still fresh in her mind.
"I know. I told you I was sorry and it wasn't done with bad intentions - I just didn't want you to worry."
"Okay."
She heard him sigh deeply on the other end of the phone. "What time will you be home?"
"Whenever I feel like it. I'm picking up Baler today-"
"No, I can do it. My shift is over at two thirty and I pass by the school anyway on my way home. That's why I was asking."
"Okay."
"Mrs. Riley?" Her assistant, Suzanne, chimed in quietly, opening the door softly to avoid disturbing the children who were calming down for the afternoon. Thank God Robert lets me bring them to work with me, she sighed to herself. I definitely don't want to send them to a daycare or risk having some woman who's up Simon's ass at the station to offer watching them. "Rob needs you."
"Give me a minute."
"I-I don't think he has a minute..."
"Alright. I have to go, Simon. I'll see you when I get home."
"Okay. I love you."
"Love you too."
"Where's the fire?" She scoffed at her.
"Frankly, I'm afraid if Mr. Collins gets any more fed up with that investor, I think his pants will catch fire..."
"I'll be right back, then. Keep an eye on the kids, okay?"
"Sure thing, Mrs. Riley." The old woman smiled warmly at her.
"Goddammit, Robert, I didn't come here to do business with these people!" Frank shouted from the conference room, which was too close for comfort to Kiera's office, angering her even more that someone of a professional outfit was risking waking them up when she had many troubles with them being restless that morning.
"I can hear you screaming halfway down the hall, Frank," Kiera scoffed, entering the conference room. "I suggest that you stop screaming before you wake up my children."
"What is this? A daycare now?" Frank scoffed, looking at Kiera as if he were degrading her with his gaze. "I thought we were trying to work this out, Rob?"
"We've been trying to work it out for two hours now," Rob sighed. "She is the alternative."
Frank sighed, flipping his pen between his fingers, "We don't want to merge-"
"Nobody wants to merge with you," Kiera answered. "You have a three-to-one debt ratio. It would be easier to sell newspapers."
"I'm not going to sit here and be bullied by your apprentice, Rob,"
The old man chuckled, "Oh, she's not my apprentice, she's my second-in-command."
"Whatever she is, we will still pull our funds and we will take our business a town over to Wells Fargo!" Frank threatened.
"We're just asking you to suspend the dividend-"
"-Yeah, and kill the stock!" He shouted.
"What do you think is going to happen when I dump our fifteen percent share tomorrow morning?" Kiera asked. "I'll tell you what, just in case you were wondering: the stock will drop below ten, SEC will suspend trading, and every creditor you have will file on you, your company will be on chapter eleven by Monday and since we're your largest creditors, I can promise that there will be no form of negotiating then. I will be the CEO of WY Energy by Tuesday and I will lay off every employee and sell your equipment and leases to someone else for fifty cents on the dollar and you will have the only distinction of being the only drilling company to go bankrupt. Wouldn't that look good on a resume?"
"My father and I started this company in our basement..."
"That's where it's going to end up if you don't suspend the dividend and allow us to assume supervision," She assured, watching the old man glare at Robert. "Don't look at him. Look at me. Are we going to restructure your company or destroy it? You tell me."
He frowned, taking a deep breath before sighing heavily through his nose to nod hesitantly.
"That's what I like to hear," Robert smiled before standing up to shake his hand. "Everything will be alright."
"I'll be in my office." Kiera whispered before taking the first step to walk towards the door before immediately stopping in her tracks. Did this man say what I think he said?!
Oh, she was right. As she walked by, she heard Frank mumble 'arrogant girl' under his breath.
She walked up behind him before putting her hands on either side of him to press her palms against the oak table, "I just saved your house, which is the last thing in your name that you have to worry about considering your wife left you for fornicating with a woman my age, saved your reputation, and saved you from draining out of your retirement fund. So how about you try something more appropriate?"
The old man was furious, but a part of him knew that he had it coming sometime or another. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," She spoke lowly. "Oh, and by the way, if I hear you cursing loudly in my office floor again when my children are around, I'll stab you with this fucking fork." She whispered, grasping the fork in question that was resting next to the small plate that was used to serve morning muffins.
"I see your goal is to make enemies by Monday, huh Mrs. Riley?" Suzanne snickered. "Little Jacob coughed up on himself. I got some napkins-"
"Enemies by Monday is my slogan, Suzanne," Kiera smiled. "Don't worry about it. I have it all under control from here. Get yourself home. You've got grandkids of your own needing spoilt!"
"Is it already time for me to go?" The old woman gasped, looking at her watch. "Don't forget to tell your mother that she and I have a brunch date tomorrow!"
"I really need to get you a phone," She giggled. "I'll tell her."
"Thank you, sweetie. I'll see you in the morning!"
"I'll see you in the morning."
»»-------¤-------««
"I got scared for a minute," Baler snickered, opening the passenger side door and getting into the car. "I thought it was Johnny coming to pick me up."
"As long as me and your mum are back, you won't have to worry about that." Simon grumbled.
"Great, so my ego can take time to heal until after Christmas break," He smirked. "Are you and mom still fighting?"
"Who said we were fighting?"
"You must think I'm as stupid as the day you met me. I can tell you two are fighting. Barely speakin' at dinner, you sleeping on the couch every so often, that scary tone in mom's voice-"
"We're not fighting, lad. We just had a disagreement and she resents me for it right now."
"Well, let's get her to change her mind."
"Yeah, how you figure?"
"Make her do something with you. Let's take her fishing or something."
"You know, as much as I don't agree with you on most things, I do agree with you on that."
"What was your first thought? Buy her flowers?" He scoffed.
"...No."

Total Drama Camp Island au
Fuck it. Au where Camp Wawanakwa is a Theatre camp. Chris is the director, Chef is the technical director. Mixing Gen 1 and Gen 2, the cast and crew splits up like this:
(PS, if two people have the same role, it’s just double cast.)
CAST
Alejandro - Joined because he enjoyed theatre as a class. He easily gets roles, though his charm is sometimes seen as an unfair advantage to others so he doesn’t audition much.
NOTABLE ROLES
the Phantom
the SQUIP
Emmett Forrest
Rocky
Kenickie Murdoch
Sierra - Joined because OBVIOUSLY she wants a place to nerd out! She gets good roles because she’s one of the only people who put all her emotions and being into her lines AND songs.
NOTABLE ROLES
Sandy Cheeks
Jenna Rolland
Columbia
Ronette
Delia Deetz
Duncan - I can’t decide whether he joined as a joke, or if his parents forced him to hang out with other teens. Maybe both. But surprisingly, he’s a good actor—AND can, surprisingly, do an incredible Mr. Krabs impression. He also constantly fights with crew to not wear a wig, keeping his mohawk onstage.
NOTABLE ROLES
Mr. Krabs
Jake Dillinger
Eddie
Orin Scrivello
Beetlejuice???
Tyler - Joined because he thought it would be like High School Musical. His roles are never big, but he has fun with them and always treats them like they’re the lead.
NOTABLE ROLES
Patchy the Pirate
one of the businessmen that purchases an Audrey II
Harold - He WOULD be a threatre kid if he could. He auditions with rapping EVERY TIME. And it works for him.
NOTABLE ROLES
Sheldon J. Plankton
Kevin G
Riff Raff
Geoff - Joined as a dare, and ended up loving it. He’s super chill about cast lists, and whatever he ends up with, he makes sure it’s including Bridgette.
NOTABLE ROLES
Patrick Star/Larry the Lobster/Gary the Snail
Damien Hubbard
Heather - She likes being in the spotlight. She expects roles, and she gets roles. .. not always. She’s typecast as the mean girl.
NOTABLE ROLES
Chloe Valentine
Regina George
Magenta
Vivian Kensington
Betty Rizzo
Lindsay - Loves movies and musicals and wants to be like that!! But she usually forgets her lines… and when she does, they’re all from Mean Girls. Even if she’s doing Rocky Horror, she’ll say her Karen Smith lines. Oh well.
NOTABLE ROLES
Karen Smith
Paulette Bonafonté
Frenchy Facciano
Leshawna - She has a big voice, so she’ll join to get big roles. Although, she’s never really cast in dance heavy roles…
NOTABLE ROLES
Pearl Krabs
Janice Ian
Audrey II/Chiffon
Elle Woods
Owen - He thought theatre camp could be fun! He has a surprisingly nice voice, and is just really good at embodying characters.
NOTABLE ROLES
SpongeBob SquarePants/Patrick Star
Michael Mell
Noah - “Joined as a joke”. He secretly really wanted to. He has the gay theatre kid energy here… his voice is also quite pleasant.
NOTABLE ROLES
Squidward Tentacles
Adam Maitland
Brad Majors
Warner Huntington III
Trent - Joined for fun since he had a free summer. He always brings his guitar, and sometimes plays it for script read throughs.
NOTABLE ROLES
an Electric Skate
Aaron Samuels
Cody - Family got him to join. They hoped he could get really cute roles, and he acts like he doesn’t care. He does.
NOTABLE ROLES
SpongeBob SquarePants/Old Man Jenkins
Seymour Krelborn
Bridgette - A friend suggested she signed up, so she did—tries to get a couples role with Geoff ever since they got together.
NOTABLE ROLES
Mayor of Bikini Bottom
Brooke Lohst
Janice Ian
Brooke Wyndham
Courtney - She’s done every subject and activity, of COURSE she’ll try theatre! She’s destined to be a star! She takes everything extremely seriously. And if she doesn’t get the role she wants… it’s scary.
NOTABLE ROLES
Christine Daae
Jenna Rolland
Gretchen Weiners
Vivian Kensington
Barbara Maitland
Crystal
Katie and Sadie - They picked a summer camp they wanted to do together, chose this, and auditioned for EVERYTHING together. They don’t really do roles that aren’t a duo.
NOTABLE ROLES
the Delta Nu girls
Justin - Decided to join because he assumed he’d get roles IMMEDIATELY for how he looked. He did not.
NOTABLE ROLES
an Electric Skate
Kyle the delivery man
Cameron - His mom suggested he joined a theatre camp because it felt “safe”—plus, he can actually sing and dance pretty well, since he grew up with his mom’s disco music.
NOTABLE ROLES
Seymour Krelborn
Anne Maria - She REALLY wants a shot at being a lead in a musical, but is painfully… tone deaf. But she’s pretty good at dancing, actually!
NOTABLE ROLES
Cha-Cha DiGregorio
Mike - His psychiatrist suggested he take a theatre camp, since his excuse for his switches is that he just “likes to act”. In reality, Mike… doesn’t really like acting. He’ll take one role, but all his others are usually done by… not. Him.
NOTABLE ROLES
Jeremy Heere
Beetlejuice (Mal)
Danny Zuko (Vito)
Zoey - She actually loves musicals! Big theatre kid! She can make her own costumes and knows way too much about the shows she’s in, but barely says anything about it because she’s nervous about appearing as weird.
NOTABLE ROLES
Karen
Christine Canigula
Cady Heron
Chutney Wyndham
Janet Weiss
Lydia Deetz
Sandy Olsson
Lightning - Joined by accident. He doesn’t know where he is. He likes the attention, though.
NOTABLE ROLES
an Electric Skate
Brick - He was too nervous to join theatre at school, so he tried a summer camp no one had ever heard of… and it was perfect!
NOTABLE ROLES
Perch Perkins
Dr. Scott
Scott - Joined as a joke. Auditions as a joke. Usually tries to get someone to mess up a line or say the M word onstage…
NOTABLE ROLES
Rich Goranski
Dakota - OOOFF COOUURRSEEE she has to be center stage! Of COURSE! It’s not Broadway, but this’ll do!
NOTABLE ROLES
Brooke Wyndham
Miss Argentina
Dawn - (is usually crew)
NOTABLE ROLES
Audrey
CREW
DJ - paints sets!
Eva - helps with exercises and choreography!
Gwen - head of makeup!
Izzy - she does the practical effects/special effects/visuals!
Courtney - she has FOUGHT with Chris and Chef to be allowed to act and do crew at the same time. she does lights. do NOT let her be stage manager.
Ezekiel - also pants sets!
Beth - assists in costuming!
Cameron - prop master!
Mike - when he can avoid acting, he helps Cam!
Dawn - she’s an assistant stage manager, and always knows who’s playing what before the cast list gets written somehow…
B - to save money on hiring various companies for flying or using other big machinery, he handles that himself.
Sam - sound master!
Brick - when he’s not acting, he works on being head of costumes!
Jo - stage manager!
PPS. I know most of these are adult shows, but do you think Chris gives a shit

Note
Anyone see WW1984 yet? That was absolutely terrible. I mean, Wonder Woman’s a rapist now. That is now a thing that is attached to her character. This is worse than Suicide Squad. Worse than BvS! My god! What were you thinking Patty Jenkins!
Cody was depressed for a week after we saw it.
Can you believe that I once had hope for the DCEU? Or at least hope that it would have one good sub-series?
I liked Shazam, eh. And the second one wasn't so bad!
Whatever. They're rebooting it now. James Gunn won't fail us.
But he made Super.
Super wasn't...I mean, it was...kind of like Wonder Woman 1984, now that I think about it.
He also made Brightburn.
STOP KILLING HOPE! Who are you, Zack Snyder?!

Hello, me again bestie.
This ask is a little different than my usual though.
I will be spending several hours on a plane tomorrow. This is where I wish I had some self-control and didn't read everything the minute it's posted. I will definitely be finishing Beskar Doll. I'm soooo sorry it's taken me forever. Don't get me wrong I love Din but he definitely takes a back seat to Joel.
Anyways, back to the point of my ask before I started rambling. By the time I board tomorrow I will have finished all of my ARC reads and my TBR is way too overwhelming to even know where to begin. So I'm wondering if you have any book recs? If you have any fic recs that are long enough to keep me occupied most of the trip I will take those too.
I hope you have a great day!
Hi Bestie!
Omg please do not apologize for not finishing one of my fics lol I’m just thrilled you read them at all!! I hope you love it!!
As for book recs, I’ve been really into Taylor Jenkins-Reid this year. I read Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo in a day and Daisy Jones and the Six in two, I just couldn’t put them down! I’m also a sucker for anything by Gillian Flynn, Sharp Objects in particular. I read Corinne by Rebecca Morrow in like a day, too. Also really good, about a woman finding herself as she leaves a borderline cult religious group.
Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk is another favorite. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere (also Neil Gaiman), Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Loathe as I am to suggest Rowling to anybody but the first few books of her Cormoran Strike series (under the pen name Robert Galbraith) are great if you can get a ✨free✨ download to not spend any money because fuck that woman (I haven’t read the last few because fuck that woman and also apparently no one reels her in during editing anymore and the recent ones reportedly sucked.) If you are/were a Twilight girlie, Stephenie Meyer’s The Chemist (it’s a thriller for adults) is somewhat addictive!
For non-fiction, the Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama was a fascinating read, especially in the context of a post-insurrection world. Anything by Jon Krakauer - Missoula in particular but I also did a huge paper for a capstone project in college on SA so grain of salt and all the trigger warnings. I also go through phases of being really into random historical things and I read a fascinating book on Chernobyl a few years ago that I think about often (Chernobyl by Serhii Plokhy). Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich made me want to become a journalist and I adored Waiting: True Confessions of a Waitress by Debra Ginsberg. Candy Girl by Diablo Cody was also great.
Sorry, I know that’s a lot!!! I hope some sound interesting and that you have a fabulous trip, bestie!!! Love you!

Five years later, Cody has some ideas about what went wrong. “I think I know why I shit the bed,” she tells GQ over the phone from Los Angeles. “When I was first hired for this, I don’t think the culture had not embraced the femme or the bimbo as valid feminist archetypes yet. If you look up ‘Barbie’ on TikTok you’ll find this wonderful subculture that celebrates the feminine, but in 2014, taking this skinny blonde white doll and making her into a heroine was a tall order.”
Cody remembers feeling like the artistic stakes were high, especially given the relative dearth of female-focused—or driven—IP. “There was a lot of pressure to not write the dramatic equivalent of ‘math is hard,’ she laughs. “I grew up playing with Barbies,” she says, “and those were sort of the first movies that I ever cast. A lot of people learn to tell stories by playing with dolls.” The plan had been to package Cody’s affectionate and idiosyncratic take on the character with an unconventional leading actress—specifically Amy Schumer, whose crass, confessional work as a stand-up and sketch comic gave her a certain counterculture credibility. It was, in theory, a terrific idea, but Cody recalls that the concept was ultimately less liberating than it seemed. “That idea of an anti-Barbie made a lot of sense given the feminist rhetoric of ten years ago,” says Cody. “I didn’t really have the freedom then to write something that was faithful to the iconography; they wanted a girl-boss feminist twist on Barbie, and I couldn’t figure it out because that’s not what Barbie is.” She cites a recent interview in which Gerwig told Robbie that the key to playing Barbie was a “lack of introspection” as an example of how complex—and contradictory—the material can be.
When Schumer finally dropped out in 2017—citing scheduling conflicts—the role was supposedly shifted to Anne Hathaway, but without much additional traction on the creative side. Cody notes that part of the problem was that The Lego Movie made for a daunting template, having managed so voraciously to have its cake and eat it too in terms of being both a satire and an act of brand extension. “I heard endless references to The Lego Movie in development,” she says, “and it created a problem for me because they had done it so well. Any time I came up with something meta, it was too much like what they had done. It was a roadblock for me, but now enough time has passed that they can just cast [The Lego Movie antagonist] Will Ferrell as the antagonist in a real-life Barbie movie and nobody cares.”
Cody says that she’s extremely excited for Gerwig’s Barbie, which she calls “my Joker,” but admits that she’s wary (and weary) of a moment where even the most distinctive and individualistic American filmmakers—including not only Gerwig but also Barry Jenkins, whose pricey Lion King prequel is en route—are being pushed to renovate intellectual property rather than building from the ground up. (The recent announcement that Gerwig will be helming two Chronicles of Narnia movies underscores the issue even more deeply, as do stirrings of an impending Mattel Cinematic Universe). “I understand why those artists have moved into that lane,” Cody says. “I get it. The most successful movie that I’ve ever written was Juno, and that wouldn’t get a theatrical release today.” Her sense of humor about the situation, however, remains intact. “I wish every day that I could write The Paw Patrol movie, because credibility is not going to put my kids through college,” Cody says wryly. “I have made several swings at IP with Barbie and Powerpuff Girls, and I take full responsibility for the failures of those attempts, because I do have a specific voice and POV and I haven’t figured out how to modulate it.” Not that she’s necessarily dying to compromise. “Ultimately, you’re selling toys,” she says. “I mean, nobody really wants to delve deeper into the lore and mythos of Hungry Hungry Hippos. That’s not really an artistic exercise.”
Nayman, Adam. “The Story of the Diablo Cody Barbie Movie We Almost Got,” July 6, 2023.
it’s uber annoying that diablo cody was interviewed about her attempts to write the script for the barbie movie and the pull quote was just “I couldn’t write barbie as a girlboss” when she said a LOT of really interesting things about how a movie this earnest would have been laughed out of the theater if she had written it in 2015 as she was tasked! weird to think about the changes in the media landscape over a relatively short number of years that margot robbie’s barbie is being heralded (by SOME) as a Feminist Icon
#reading#diablo cody#and I think these are some NEAT reflections AND it’s super interesting she blames herself for not being able to adapt her voice to IP like#okayyyy but is this really what we want to expect from writers from now on???
