This story was very popular, and I loved working on it with Gail Simone. We co-created the character Star-Blossom, and I was super disappointed that DC didn't do anything further with the character.

Can we talk about how Gail Simone has (allegedly) ripped off a latine comic writer and artist with her latest addition to the X-Men?

A couple of days ago, a friend sent me this video:

Yesterday I found out through Instagram that there’s an Argentinean X-Men. When I check out the news, I notice that the character is identical to one of my characters. The same hair, face, look, color. I keep looking into it and I can tell that the hand details, they have the same gloves, same accessories.

I also find out that the author (Gail Simone) has been to Argentina and that she was in the same convention I was part of. And after reading a bit more, I realize that the [character] origin is similar. So I tried to reach out to the authors, but I did not get any reply.

Let’s hope that, well, with everyone’s help we can add pressure so that our creations being stolen without any kind of repercussions does not happen again to us Argentinean authors. So that this doesn’t happen again, and so that Argentinean culture remains where it should be, at the very top, but in the hands of its creators.

To me, the side by side comparison really shows how similar the designs are. The fact that Gail was part of the same convention as Martin only makes this situation even more suspicious. I've been looking around a bit, and not only are the origin stories of both characters similar, but their powers are so similar, too. The only thing that is not identical is the hairstyle.

Latin american creators either get painfully overlooked, or they have to endure blatant theft. I hope one day both Marvel and DC start treating us better.

When i got into comics people would tell me dick and barbara are a boring pair compared to dick and kory. They never really explained why except for saying barbara is a boring normal girl and kory a princess from tamaran. Why do you think people consider it boring? Which pair is more interesting? I find dick and barbara more interesting, curious to hear your opinion

I always think this quote by Gail Simone sums it up well.

Dickbabs is a beautifully developed slowburn like none other in comics. As I’ve said before, I used to be a robstar shipper before I read the comics, but the way Dick and Babs’ relationship got so much time to shine and develop from Batman Family to Batgirl/Robin Year one, to Nightwing & Bop, and then all of the various Batman 90s books. It felt realistic, and unique.

They work for the reasons so many modern comic romances don’t!

They have buildup, not just banter and kissing. It isn’t surprising that dickkory is popular with younger people bc of the cartoon. And you see plently of them holding up YouTube or tumblr polls as proof that they’re better. But no matter what they say, the run that reunited dickbabs won three Eisner awards, and definitely outsold Titans Academy, which briefly had Dick and Kory hooking up along the same time as Dick and Babs got back together in Nw. Sometimes it’s about “voting” with your wallet, and in that sense, dickbabs continues to win.

Those polls also tend to be closer in actual comic spaces, as much as dickkorys pretend dickbabs is unpopular, it’s still pretty beloved with readers and writers for being such a big part of the 90s,

If I had ever had any doubts, this would have been the moment that reassured me that Gail Simone's new Uncanny X-Men run will do right by Gambit.

He's not a handsome but childish fuckup who everyone else more tolerates than likes. He's clever, competent, and ballsy as hell.

And, if I had any doubts, this would have been the moment that reassured me that Gail Simone gets Rogue.

Where fighting is concerned, she's confident enough to stroll up to a dragon with two buddies at her side and pick a fistfight. But when things get rough on the personal, emotional level?

She runs. She hides.

I haven't kept up with a comic in fully twenty years - since literally 2004 - but goddammit we sure are back.
