As I work my way to the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, there's one thing I've come to realize: Cloud Strife, without a doubt, is the master of minigames! Also, does anyone else think they should make Queen's Blood into a real-life card game? Except with cards that include characters and monsters from all Final Fantasy games?!

okay this is going off both the OG and the Remake project, but not any of the other things because they're all bad uh I haven't spent a lot of time delving into them

also spoilers, etc

Cloud is SO CRAZY and there is SO MUCH PLOT HAPPENING TO HIM ALL THE TIME but the thing is that he's also a 21 year old kid who has almost zero real-world experience. I mean think about it -- even with the absurdities that anime ages force you to reckon with, he left home when he was 13 to join Shinra, was a lowercase soldier by 16 (and a pretty unimpressive one at that), DEFINITELY was a virgin, and then got stuck in a test tube for ~5 years. Bro has zero game. ...Other than what might've happened to him in the test tube, gulp.

so with that, Barret! A Real Man who's got a hell of a lot of actual life experience -- a wife, but also who knows whatever other dating, and once he's in Midgar doing his single dad thing I fully believe that he could've had some one night stands and clearly all the game he needs. Shit, all he's really got to do is aim those pretty brown eyes and smile just right and he's probably got half of the slums in the palm of his remaining hand.

so, smash those two together. I love that the prickly initial relationship of kinda nutty ecoterrorist/bitchy merc mellows throughout disc 1/Remake, so by the time they're in Kalm or so they're... not besties maybe, but battle buddies for sure. Then by the time you get them to Gold Saucer and the whole Dyne situation, they're definitely friends, who trust and like each other and understand that they're complements -- not just personality wise, but in strategy, combat, etc. Barret actually knowing how people work and being a Relative Normie (like seriously, he's the only semi-normal member of the whole party) is such a restful space for Cloud, Plot Magnet, to end up. I don't want it as like a big sweeping romance or anything -- Cloud doesn't really seem mentally or emotionally prepared for those -- but man, really good FWB with strong affection is an underrated relationship style.

plus, jeezus creezus it's hot. Size differential!kink for days, for one hand, and then mamma mia the thing that drives me BONKERS, to wit: strong muscled dom top/smaller sub bottom, but at literally any point that bottom could 100% destroy the top. Like if they fought for real Barret would LOSE. That shit's catnip, man. What a gift. Now if only the Cloud/Barret fandom existed lol

i like some of the new direction, but cloud is so much more cringe 17-25 years later, i love it. i can hear zack's airhead voice at the same time, too. cloud's dead ass tone sends me to the bathroom, good times~

was funny coming back from my parents yday cuz i got to the coach station in good time n then due to the weather fucking the motorway my coach was over an hour late, n basically every other northbound coach was also late due to coming up that same motorway, so the coach station was Very Crowded, n i watched the two other queer autistic twenty-somethings waiting for my coach strike up a conversation with each other, while i sat on the floor and got my switch out to play more disco elysium
