idk how to describe it but hanzo would be such a nihilist while genji would be such an existentialist?
like hanzo would be a hardcore nihilist in the way where created meanings and labels mean absolutely nothing to him and have no value (esp when he left the family clan to sort of hardcore reject their values) whatsoever while genji believes the meaning in our lives is the utmost important thing, if not why were humans created.
Genji draws a line because he deems it foolish to simply say nothing matters and to never create your own meaning from it while hanzo wouldn't even bother drawing a line because even if he did it would be fake and serve no value to him?
while they both do agree at some level with their philosophies there are some fundamentals that they are very differing about

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was thinking about why I love Nero so much, and I realized that there is not only something so magnetic and unique about him and his design, but how the core of his whole personality is built on a deep love for Weiss, despite the fact that he is an antihero and does not very good things (first under orders from Shinra, since he is a Deepground soldier, and then out of duress, to summon Omega = to revive Weiss), but all this is out of desperation and love. I do not know any other character inside the FF7 world and beyond, who is so motivated to act out of love as Nero. Even take other iconic pairs of loving brothers (because it is brother's love that is depicted as the strongest in JP games and anime), their motivations were different, and love was secondary.
Take Itachi and Sasuke, for example.
Tumblr media
Itachi is stated to have a very strong love for Sasuke, but what he does ultimately causes Sasuke great pain. Yes, Itachi wanted to save him, but at what cost? And his main motive was: to prevent a world war. So, at the cost of his clan's life and Sasuke's mental health, he does something terrible, and I still can't accept it as an act of love. It seems such an unhealthy, twisted form of love, illogical and scary.
And yet, I cried watching those scenes where Itachi reveals the truth, where Sasuke cries, everything is built to squeeze out tears.
Tumblr media
Next, Madara and Izuna.
Tumblr media
It is stated that he loved Izuna, and loved him even more than Itachi loves Sasuke. And how is this shown and proven? Well, it seems like almost nothing. Madara's main motivation is to become the strongest shinobi, to take control of the world and establish his own order, and thereby establish peace through strict control and then through magical illusions when he became disillusioned with contradictory and rebellious human nature. I understand his motivations, and he is one of the most admired character in Naruto. But what does love have to do with it? Izuna is not even present in his motivation. He simply died and caused Madara's grief, making him cruel and aggressive. And also gave him his eyes. But what besides this?
Tumblr media
As for the others, like Lothric-Lorian from Dark souls, their connection was forced by the curse, and their motivation is simply to disobey their superiors. Their essence is nihilism and fatalism. Love is just an accompanying quality.
Tumblr media
Not to mention Miquella, who did not show love as a personal emotion, although it seems he should embody universal love. We just can't see his love for Radahn or Godwyn or anyone to the point that we start to wonder if there was love at all? Or if there was love but it wasn't shown? So he is out of the love list.
Tumblr media
If we talk about the love of Sephiroth, Cloud and other characters of FF7, they are so far from ultimate love that it does not even occur to me what can be said. Probably, Sephiroth wanted to love, but could not find anyone, suffering from loneliness and his own inability to build healthy relationships, and Cloud had many friends whom he valued, but never found "the one and only", whom he would love completely and unconditionally (which is why ship-wars still rage). It seems that Sephiroth could have become that one and only, considering how much Cloud idolized him, but Sephiroth ruined everything. Yes, Shinra is to blame for this, but partly it is Sephiroth's character, his selfishness and inability to put someone else's feelings above his own. Considering that Nero and Weiss grew up in much worse conditions than Sephiroth, and suffered abuse and pain from Shinra that Sephiroth did not experienced, yet somehow they were able to form the strongest bonds of love with each other and the healthiest relationships with each other (not toxic, not abusive, but built on loyalty, devotion, trust, unity and intimacy).
Tumblr media
Sephiroth was so unlucky in love that even his own clones wanted to leave him in the DFFOO, and Weiss even laughed at this, telling Sephiroth that his puppet (Kadaj) cut his strings. And Kadaj, embodying young Sephiroth personality, longed for a family and to find someone who understood and cared for him, and he saw this in the illusionary form of Jenova. Sephiroth could have given him this care and love, but he simply used him as a tool, which hurt Kadaj. As for Weiss, he remembers Nero as the only one who understands him and cares for him, someone without whom he feels incomplete.
Tumblr media
"Without Nero, there is no me" - this shows Weiss and Nero's relationship from Weiss' perspective. In DoC, we see their love from Nero's perspective and might have doubted about the reciprocity, but DFFOO shows that Weiss loves Nero as much as Nero loves Weiss.
Each case is unique, and each deserves its own respect and admiration. I simply analyzed one aspect, like love in a character, and came to the conclusion that Nero may be the strongest embodiment of this love at the moment.

What are your thoughts on each major faction from Magia Record?
I love all the factions, they each represent some really cool ideas!
Kamihama Magia Union:
Love them!! I really do like the idea of an entire city full of magical girls banding together to share resources and support each other. Magical girl mutual aid, we love to see it.
Wings of the Magius:
THEY GOT DONE SO DIRTY!!! I hate how the Wings of Magius are often vilified by the story because like.... they're not wrong. Madokami doesn't exist in their universe, so all magical girls are screwed the moment they make their contracts. The Magius are the only ones trying to do something to end the Incubator's exploitation, and the Doppel system is even better than Madokami's solution.
I distinctly remember Iroha and the gang talking to one of the Black Feathers and the Feather was like "I saw my sister turn into a Witch. I don't want to end up like her and I don't want her death to be in vain" and Iroha is just like "I understand but the Magius are still wrong :("
Like for the record, I don't condone destroying an entire city to implement the Doppel system but it's really hard not to sympathize with these girls. The Magius are their one and only hope. I will say that I do appreciate what the story did with them later, with them joining the Kamihama Magia Union in order to find a peaceful way to impliment the Doppel system.
Promised Blood:
I'm glad Promised Blood was introduced because they cause Arc 1 to have stakes and consequences. The Kamihama magical girls have been (unknowingly) benefiting from the suffering of neighboring magical girls. If you didn't know, Kamihama has a surplus of Witches because Witches from surrounding areas are being drawn to the city. This in turn leaves a drought of Witches and Grief Seeds in neighboring towns. The drought got so bad in Futatsugi City that it led to a civil war and multiple magical girl deaths.
So yeah, very cool concept and I love how they introduce a lot of conflict and nuance in Arc 2.
Tokime Tribe:
I absolutely love the concept behind them and all their lore. The idea of a hidden village that produces magical girls whose wishes can be bought by the rich and powerful is so cool. I love how the entire clan is aware of magical girls, to the point where some families choose to move because they're worried about their daughters contracting.
Folklore of Zero:
Their background and motivations are so interesting. Their nihilism and resignation to their fates is very intriguing, especially compared to the optimism and perseverance displayed by the KMU. I absolutely love all the lore they introduce about the role of magical girls and the intentions the universe itself has for them. I also love how each member wants to publicize the truth about magical girls, a plan I wholeheartedly agree with.
Puella Care:
They're so cool! In Arc 1 Mitama introduced the really interesting concept of Coordinators (or Adjusters, depending on your translation) and I love how that idea was expanded on in Arc 2. I also appreciate how their neutrality is constantly tested and questioned.
Neo-Magius:
Probably my least favorite faction, although I don't dislike them by any means. The concept of magical girl supremacy is a very interesting one. I also like how their opinions and goals are just plain wrong, compared to how nuanced the rest of the factions are.

I think something that is deeply misunderstood about Toji is the fact that he is not a person who is willingly bad. He is a bad father, yes, and he might also be a bad person but the second part is not intentional but rather instinctive. We seem to always gloss over his life as a male child in the Zenin clan, which, in all it’s orthodox ways, puts men on a higher pedestal than women. Meaning, you do not have the privilege of falling behind in any way whatsoever if you are a man. So when Toji, son of the 25th clan head is born without cursed energy, he naturally becomes subjected to the torment that comes with being inferior. In both chapter 76 and chapter 113, Toji reflects upon things he had long let go of, which was pride, something men of the zenin clan are full of. So to see someone who is so deeply rooted in their own inferiority that they let go of the beliefs that run in his very blood, is almost unbecoming. His choice to consider selling off Megumi wasn’t shallow by any means, because unlike him, Megumi had potential, but he contradicts his own self by telling Gojo about Megumi’s existence at the time of his death. In that moment, Toji sees Megumi as an extension of himself rather than his wife. The cycle of abuse isn’t something that can end randomly on a Monday morning, a neglected child will become a neglecting father, a neglecting father will become a neglecting grandfather. The severity of abuse or neglect only lessens, never disappears, because it exists on the child like a branding, etched deep onto his skin.
Toji’s period of stability is not known to the audience, it is kept concealed like an intimate secret between his wife and him. It was the one opportunity he had at normality and it completely makes sense of him to become unstable after his wife’s death. In a way Toji’s nihilism is tied directly to his roots in the Zenin clan. He fails to find purpose in anything, even killing. His vices being gambling make complete sense because he has no actual use for the money he makes. Discarded by his own family, his existence had been meaningless because of his lack.

Villain Shiki!! Yet another wonderful au, this time with extra murder.
Gad, with Araya being the only prolonged adult contact, Shiki's kill count is off the charts, isn't it?
Compared to zenith Shiki, is Villain Shiki stronger or weaker? I feel like she would be better at murder mayhem, but maybe less good at swordmanship because no Kiyohara? Does she still name her technique White and Nihility?
Indeed, in this AU Shiki is a lot more bloodthirsty than her zenith of stars counterpart. She's also very unabashedly upfront about it.
I think... honestly, villain!Shiki would be weaker. Araya experiments with her abilities, but he doesn't train her to fight, whereas in zenith of stars Shiki is very specifically trained by the Gojo Clan to become a powerful sorcerer. On a side note, villain!Shiki would've achieved Domain Expansion a lot earlier than zenith Shiki.
Her technique names would probably be different. Actually, villain!Shiki might not even have names for her techniques -Araya probably named some of them at one point, but villain!Shiki would reject them later on after a certain (cough) incident (cough).

3, 5, 7!
Ooh thanks, I'll answer for all three of the OCs I put in the tags of the ask list :D
🔥 Gaura 🔥
3. What is your OC's fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?
Gaura can be something of a control freak, mind you this mainly manifests during the events of Deadfire, partially because she didn’t have the time to deal with the fact that she died, partially because different powers seek to use her and partially because she found out that not only had Berath put something in her that can serve as a kill switch, but Magran had the same kill switch in her this entire time. This can lead her to be secretive and insistent on handling everything herself – including things that are really not her business. She does become aware of that by the end of Deadfire though and I hc that after the events of the game, she goes into a semi-retirement to deal with this flaw of hers.
5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
Gaura usually aims to make the best of whatever situations she’s in, as such she’s willing to take big but calculated risks and tries to avoid any potential unnecessary carnage.
7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?
She was supposed to be a joke character purely rooted in stereotypical metal aesthetics – so like fire, skeletons, hot women in leather and/or armor. And… she grew into a proper character since then.
You can read about Berci and Gilvád below the cut
🏹 Bertalan 🏹
3. What is your OC's fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?
Bertalan has buried pretty much everyone who has truly loved him – regardless of the nature of said love. Regardless if he was responsible for their deaths in any way or not, he blames himself for them and as a result he pushes people away, even though deep down he yearns for connections. He is aware of this, but he either ignores it or doesn’t bother dealing with it because he has been living alone and wandering for a long while, and as such he is convinced he cannot function in any other capacity. It takes meeting – and being part of – the tadpole gang to really consider opening himself up to others again and taking on a lifestyle that is less lonely and self-destructive dangerous.
5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
Berci has 0 consideration for his own well-being so… probably far enough to get himself killed. Luckily for him he also has no ambitions whatsoever so he’ll never have to go that far.
7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?
Bertalan was originally a giant himbo – big, kinda stupid, no real social skills aside from the ones he honed on animals. And now… well he’s still a big guy, he’s still a ranger with some animals but he has braincells, he’s an edgelord, he’s got some leadership skills and lots of trauma.
💎 Gilvád 💎
3. What is your OC's fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?
I hc that the Cadashes – or least the part of the Cadash clan that Gilvád is a part of – are rather fixated on their pre-exile past. By extension, Gilvád can be a little obsessed with being remembered and/or being forgotten. She would not be recorded on the Wall of Memories after all, so she has to leave a lasting impact or the surface – or on the flip side, nothing she does matters because it won’t be recorded by the people whose records matter to her. So she kinda flip-flops between existentialism and nihilism and the people around her can push her in either direction rather easily. She is unaware of this until the events of DA:I give her a dozen identity crises.
5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
As far as it takes.
7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?
To be honest, I haven’t had her long enough for her to really change since I conceptualized her.

Have opinions and thoughts change of the past 2 years about the MLs in LN?
practically every time they release main chapter cards!
hm, how do i explain this? i think one of the strengths of chinese otome games over japanese otome games is their commitment to a small cast where they can develop many facets of a character versus having a buffet of characters that target niche likes and so they come off as shallow or having characters who aren't allowed to develop in other directions as much because then it would encroach on another character's domain.
in my opinion, light and night does the former especially well, even among its competitors, because they try to capture the "human experience" through their male leads.
for example, in tears of themis, Lu Jinghe has a theme of freedom depicted through the conflict of his personal desires to be a roaming artist but also needing and willing to bear the responsibility of being the PAX heir, especially with his brother missing. none of the other men really have freedom themes, except perhaps Mo Yi if you squint but he's quite self-actualized and handled his family issues.
meanwhile, in light and night, everyone gets their own version of freedom trauma. Evan never had the freedom to be himself due to blood clan upbringing and propaganda, tried to die multiple times because of this, and now has terrible nihilism, has difficulty revealing his true emotions, or even fighting for what he wants.
Sariel used to have the innocent freedom of an animal and it was entering society and learning human emotions that shackled him and gave him so much guilt through responsibility that he ended up with extreme depression and tried to kill himself countless times.
Osborn's freedom started off as a curse, because he was on the brink of self-destruction without anyone to care about him and bind him to this world, but then it became a hard-won treasure after he conquered his inner demons.
Jesse craved the freedom to be himself so hard his impetus to be an actor was because he could dissociate. he echoes Lu Jinghe's themes because he also shoulders a great responsibility that he's willing to bear.
Charlie's freedom themes also echo Lu Jinghe's but worse because he's like a caged bird with his possessive father that wants to groom him to be the perfect son. but Charlie has also struggled over questions about his personhood.
anyway, this happens a lot in light and night where the men can all tackle a theme from a different angle because of their different backgrounds and it makes them feel very real. we all deal with and experience the question of what it is to be a person.
every time main chapters release, another facet of the men gets revealed in unexpected ways. i feel like i'm constantly getting to know the men deeper and deeper, and it's not just random facts about them, but rather the extent of their experiences that shaped them to be who they are now.

Continued from here:
Sybelle frowned at the question, not liking to be asked about her distant past as a once high-born Cainhurst noble. It brought back a terror that she believed had been long forgotten, and horrifying memories of death and suffering of her clan. Faces of Executioner Church Hunters leering down over her in the moon-bright night. A knight that she had loved, his body broken and torn.
Tears formed in the corners of her eyes, threatening to fall. But Sybelle willed them back, not wishing to display her emotions in front of one of the Healing Church. Ones that she so despised.
“My sorrows cut deep, Father.” The Vileblood replied in a silken whisper. Her fingers went to her slender neck, feeling the scar. Recalling the sensation of hands, gripping tightly. “I begged, but they only wanted me dead.”

Name: Jordanna Sparkburn Pronouns: she/her Era: High Republic Appears in: Out of the Shadows
Jordanna Sparkburn was a member of the San Tekka clan and the deputy on the planet Tiikae. She fell in love with Sylvestri Yarrow, but declined Syl's invitation to travel the galaxy together. Jordanna was tough, intelligent, determined, and had a penchant for violence that most Jedi found disturbing. She also had a vollka named Remy, a large hunting cat who could should lightning from their horns.
Check out Jordanna's profile video here!
Full profile under the cut:
Jordanna Sparkburn was part of the infamous San Tekka clan, which is how she ended up as the deputy on the planet of Tiikae. She had long, dark, curly hair; sandy-hued skin; and freckles. She was headstrong, confident, and had a penchant for violence that Jedi found disturbing. Jordanna believed that actions spoke louder than words, and was constantly frustrated with how the Jedi weren’t protecting people on the frontier. Her planet, Tiikae, had faced many struggles: a Nihil invasion, attacks from the mercenaries hired to deal with the Nihil invasion, kidnappings from the Zygerrians and the Hutts, the Drengir, and even more Nihil violence. Jordanna felt a strong duty to protect her planet, but also recognized when she was outmatched. Despite how violent she could be, Jordanna wanted to make a difference in the galaxy and change it for the better.
Jordanna fell in love with Sylvestri Yarrow when the latter was visiting Tiikae. Sylvestri saw the side of Jordanna that was humorous, philosophical, curious, and romantic. Still, she declined Syl’s invitation to leave the planet together, stating that she had duties due to her position in the powerful San Tekka family.
Jordanna also had a vollka named Remy, a large hunting cat whose horns could shoot bolts of electricity. Remy wasn’t fond of strangers, but was very fond of Sylvestri.
In Out of the Shadows by Justina Ireland, Jordanna works with Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh during a Nihil attack on Tiikae. She goes with the Jedi to ask for help from the San Tekka clan on Coruscant. When she arrives on the planet, she happens to reunite with Sylvestri, six months after their break-up. Jordanna joins the mission to the Berenge sector with Xylan Graf, the Jedi, and Sylvestri. She admits to Syl that she regrets not accepting her invitation to travel the galaxy and announces her intentions to win Syl back. After being stunned by a Nihil attack on Everbloom, Jordanna works with the Jedi to rescue Sylvestri and the kidnapped Padawans. After returning to Coruscant, Jordanna decides to step away from her duties as San Tekka deupty on Tiikae, and to travel to Takodana with Sylvestri instead.

Since joining forces in late 2016, Chicago rappers Quentin Branch and Brian Warren have become more lyrically pointed and sonically experimental with each new release. Their 2017 debut Ok! sounds positively poppy despite the self-lacerating lyrics. By 2019 on the EP Talkshit!, the music is darker, drawing from Detroit techno and industrial music as much as underground acts like Clipping and Dälek. On their latest album, The Legend of ABM, the pair combine ferocious dexterity and radical truth-telling with the coruscating sonic architecture of producer Formants. As Andrew Forell notedin his recent review, “Rapping from within the belly of a diseased beast, the pair rely on human rhythms that dodge and weave the noise of the city ricocheting around them.”

A lot of Dick’s novels inspired some of the writing for The Legend of ABM, especially the themes that deal with existential struggles with technology, authoritarian governments, paranoia, and consumerism. A lot of those core themes are explored in his book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Wu-Tang Clan — Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
youtube
One of the most influential albums in music history. This album taught us how to channel some of the most traumatic aspects of being Black in America with humor and charisma while being accessible to people unfamiliar with said aspects.
Charles Bukowski — Women and Factotum
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of his poems came from the perspective of the dying working class: working while pursuing art, alcoholism, suicide, and the American dream. His books, most notably Women and Factotum heavily influenced the writing on this album.
Public Enemy — Fear of a Black Planet
youtube
This group is very significant to us. The way they infused political messages critiquing American racism and the media have had a profound effect on our own music. One project that has had a huge influence on our style is Fear of a Black Planet.
Paul Thomas Anderson — There Will Be Blood
youtube
2007 American classic directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film explores the dark side of capitalism and the American dream in late 19th and early 20th centuries. Similar themes are exposed in The Legend of ABM.
Brian
OutKast — Stankonia
youtube
The duo perfected the art of juggling themes of self-inflicted struggles and interpersonal relationships. They also helped me with my approach towards some of the writing process on The Legend Of ABM, especially the album Stankonia.
Kendrick Lamar — Damn
youtube
This project taught me the art of balancing the flaws within oneself and keeping a level head in a crazy world.
Safdie Brothers — Uncut Gems
youtube
A movie directed by the Safdie bros with its unique and unsettling camera speed and turbulent atmosphere gave me the inspiration to rap as chaotic as the feeling you get when watching this film.
Earl Sweatshirt — Some Rap Songs
youtube
An artist that has a profound Influence on my lyrical content as well as my approach to the artistry. His ability to step out of the box while pushing his artistic integrity to new levels is unmatched.
Coen Brothers — No Country for Old Men
youtube
A huge theme that stuck out to me was the passing of time and generational change. I wanted to make lyrics that made the listener feel as uncomfortable as Anton Chigur's cold but calculated nihilism.
