i hope buck, eddie and shannon are haunting helena through chris rn. i hope when chris rolls his eyes and snarks back helena freezes reminding her damn well who his father is. i hope when chris bites the inside of cheek and is suddenly really interested in his hands when he’s nervous about something helena scrunches her eyebrows in confusion bc she swears she’s seen it before and her eyes widen as she recalls eddie’s friend, the same friend who was there when they picked up chris, having the same mannerisms when eddie and his team came to texas. i hope when chris asks for the ice cream from the store 45 minutes from their house near the park and he picks rocky road helena swallows roughly bc shannon would do the same when she missed eddie and/or was sad. i hope she’s violently reminded no matter how much she pretends, that child will never be hers in the way she’s so desperately been trying to make it be for years. i hope she’s reminded of her damn place in chris’ life.

ok sorry to be #controversial i guess because i genuinely do like her as a character and find her complex and interesting and sympathetic and am glad she haunts the narrative. but i do love how every single time anyone talks about shannon they just pretend she didn't completely abandon eddie and chris for like 3 years. as in no contact no child support nothing. whatever the reason may be. it did happen. and then eddie is in the wrong for. uhhhhh not defining the new evolution of their relationship right away? being hesitant about letting her see chris after she was back for like. what. 2 months? "eddie trapped her!" he quite literally did not. she left for 3 years. and eddie had to answer chris when he asked where his mom went. and then she asked for a divorce. so 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Met-in-the-military EddieTommy that got married as soon as they retired that meet a retired Navy Seal named Evan Buckley (squadmates called him Buck) at a military themed gay bar in WeHo and Buck is completely unaware it’s a gay bar and thought he was just chatting up some fellow soldiers. Eddie and Tommy exchange a look like “we have to have him right?”

christopher is going to have the weirdest perception of romantic love when he grows up because his parents were broken up or fighting or in and out of the picture when his mom was alive, and then when his dad finally started dating again he kept his girlfriend an arm's length away at all times and had panic attacks whenever someone accurately perceived that relationship as romantic. but this strange guy that his dad made his best friend on his first day on the job in la now helps chris with his math homework and with baking cookies for his class and takes care of him when his dad is hospitalised and organizes holiday get-togethers so chris can spend them with his dad and is literally always a call away for both of them and keeps the doors of his house eternally open for them and takes him to the zoo all the time. and you'll never believe which of these people eddie apparently actively tried to kiss.

911 8a
The good part is that the door remains wide open, with a second episode making clear how unfinished this situation is; the bad part is that the building is on fire, so by the time they think to use said door it might not matter.
Because 8a didn't wrap storylines started in s7, it just trashed them in favor of... what, Brad? It's not that Brad had more (time, story) than Tommy, it's that it could be said he had more than Bobby! Remember Bobby, whom we saw in the tail end of s7 being rather depressed (possibly suicidal), resign, rescue his wife from a fire, and die for a few minutes? we started s8 with an implication that the 118 hadn't talked to him (in months?), and I guess that was a sign of how the next episodes would go.
Now there's Buck spiraling again (making his best impression of a Hallmark movie heroine for some reason), Eddie leaves the 118 because of Chris again, Hen and Karen pretty much disappear until their kids are threatened once more I guess, Maddie will get kidnapped again, and who knows if they'll remember Chim exists.
I think we all expected some repetition from the weewoo show by now, suspension of disbelief too. Some rushing through storylines for sure. But I certainly didn't expect it to be so joyless.

Something something about Eddie learning Buck will be there for him off the job, even without Chris being in the equation.
Something something about that being an important realisation for him to finally make because he’s always hidden behind his son when it comes to Buck (and his love life more generally - even Shannon in reality was for Chris not himself) but he won’t be able to this time.
Something something about that realisation being the key to giving himself permission to examine his heart and feel his true feelings.

okay who would you kill and why?
Yes, let's drag me to hell! Here we go:
Eddie! His last shift before he's set to leave for Texas, he's on a call where everything goes wrong. They're on a highway where a roadblock is set up, but a car comes flying through and runs him right over. Air support is called in (hi, Tommy!) and he's airlifted to the nearest hospital. When the 118 arrives in the waiting room, Tommy is already there. He's clearly been crying. He stands, stopping Buck from running to the nurses station for an update. "Evan," he says, and Buck knows it's bad right then but he can't believe it. He's shaking his head, "no, no, no." Tommy says through tears, "Evan, I'm sorry, he didn't make it. I'm sorry. He was gone before we reached the hospital."
Everyone is a disaster. Buck immediately goes home and starts to pack his things. Tommy comes over to check on him, and Buck tells him he's going to Texas. He doesn't want anyone else to tell Chris but him, and he needs it to be in person. Tommy offers to go with him, but he says no, he needs to do it alone.
We end the episode with Buck landing in Texas, and Eddie's parents looking confused when they see Buck there instead of Eddie. Realization hits his parents first and their faces and posture fall. Chris is excited to see Buck at first, then asks where his dad is. Buck takes a deep breath, Chris' face falls, we fade to black.

cannot explain but
did anyone else get super “just make sure that you’re following your heart, not christopher’s okay?” vibes
…from maddie’s “and if there is something you need to tell eddie.. you will. just, in your own time” ?????
because they hold the same amount of weight for entirely different reasons, yet they both talk about the confusion of feelings…

I know I've said it before, but I think this upcoming episode is going to be so interesting, even if we don't get Queer Eddie OR BT Bones (neither of which I'm fully convinced are going to happen on Thursday), & it's really for this one interesting phrase that Ryan & Oliver have both used.
They have both mentioned "rose-colored glasses" when it comes to Tommy & Shannon, and I would argue that they each have to reckon with these relationships before we can have any movement towards Buddie.
Eddie thinks that Shannon was the love of his life, that he failed her and has to carry that guilt with him for the rest of his life. I believe that Eddie placing Shannon on a pedestal is partially what's stopping him from realizing his queerness (along with the catholic guilt and repression, but a lot of that is also tied up in Shannon & their failed marriage.)
Buck's convinced that his big feelings last season were all about Tommy, and I'm not saying that some of them weren't, but I don't think it'd be too far of a stretch to say that he figures that he's in this relationship now and that obviously everything is fine now. He figured out this part of himself and he's dating a man and that means everything is Fine and he absolutely does not need to do any further digging or searching or learning, despite the fact that he and Tommy don't really seem to like each other all that much, nor do they seem to be all that compatible.
Buck has to reckon with the fact that realizing his bisexuality and immediately jumping into a relationship with a man that he wasn't even sure he wanted (his speech at the coffee date) might not be the solution to all the problems he's had, and Eddie has to deal with the fact that Shannon was not perfect, that what she did was not the same as what he did, that she's responsible for her own actions and that this romanticized vision he has clung to of their lives is not real and is not consistent with the actual relationship that they had.
There's a Divorce Arc this episode - which I'm begging does something with Eddie - and an uncomfortable truth learned about Tommy's past; it's not completely out of left field to assume that the Rose-Colored Glasses come off this episode.
And the fact that it's happening for them BOTH, at the same time? In the relationships that I think are the biggest obstacles to them realizing/accepting their feelings for each other???
I'm never fully convinced they're actually going to go there with these 2, but it will be SO interesting to see how this episode plays out, regardless.

AU where Maddie gets like. Genuinely upset because she doesn’t want to have a different last name from Chim and Jee, but the idea of not sharing a name with Buck (who for all intents and purposes is her first baby) and she ends up breaking down sobbing and apologizing to Chimney. Chim, after consoling his fiancée, just goes “oh, that’s okay! Jee and I will change our last name to Buckley :)”
Maddie just blinks. “You’d do that for me?”
Chim just shrugs. “You and Buck are my family, and I love you both. Other than Albert, I really don’t have any family who are Hans, so yeah! We can be Buckleys, I think that would be nice :)”
Buck cries when they tell him.
(Later, when Buck and Eddie are engaged and the name topic comes up, Eddie offers to change his name to Buckley, too. They almost end up doing it, but Bobby is the one to say no. “I can’t have three Buckleys on the same shift, it’ll get confusing for the other houses during big calls.
Eddie and Buck end up hyphenating instead.)

it’s so funny like there are just some opinions that to me are wrong. because they are quite literally challenged by canon or require illogical leaps to make true. and anyway thinking some opinions are wrong and some opinions are correct is just how opinions work. and some interpretations simply do not have supporting evidence. even if they did it’s not policing to believe otherwise and post about it in your own space. if you enter someone else’s space to tell them that they are incorrect and then say Well you aren’t allowing me to think what I want! when you receive pushback. that is kind of on you and not on op for believing you are wrong. sorry.

We moved on from Buck being the one to meet Kim at the station too fast. Way too fast.
Because hey, what would you do if the dead wife or a doppelgänger dead wife of your best friend-partner-almost love of your life showed up at your place of work with brownies? Would you ignore the date you scheduled in favor of driving over to your best friend’s place to knock urgently on his back door because you’re so afraid that something is happening to him. And you know that something is happening because the doppelgänger of his dead wife just showed up to the firehouse with brownies like it was just another Monday. You think you might have to push him to talk, but it feels more like your best friend was just waiting for someone to see him, and he is just as dumbfounded as you, and maybe even as scared for himself as you are for him. So you tell him that he needs to break it off with the doppelgänger of his dead wife, but you know that it’s more complicated than that, your best friend’s feelings, even though you trust him to do the right thing and end it with her. But you’re still not through the shock of seeing the doppelgänger of your best friend’s dead wife standing in the fire station, heart beating, lungs expanding, and so you think that maybe your best friend is still in shock too, and you don’t want to push too hard at his grief-wound. So you leave it for now, and you don’t come back to it until it blows up in your face, and your best friend’s face, and his son’s face too.
So yeah, I’d say that Buck probably has a lot of regrets too about the Kim situation. He’s a fixer, no matter how hard he tries, and they lost the kid both of them love more than anything over the situation. You can’t tell me that Buck hasn’t been screaming crying throwing up about it since May. Fuck that.
It doesn’t matter that we don’t get characters’ inner thoughts (usually) on this show. Buck met Kim, and he talked about it with Eddie twice. That’s crazy. That’s certifiably insane. It’s been six months. The midseason finale is tomorrow. There is no excuse for Eddie and Christopher still not speaking. This is no excuse for Buck and Eddie still never discussing Kim or at least Chris leaving. These characters are not meant to be this horrifically repressed. It is strange. It is out of character. Kim showed up for about four episodes and disappeared into the ether. I want to know what the hell is going on with this storyline.
