“A woman with hairy armpits and wrinkles is more disgusting to them than rape.”
i always find the claim that rape scenes are used to depict the “horror of human nature” or more commonly, “a critique and condemnation of the act” as especially disingenuous. how many male directors have written their male protagonist being violated in this way on screen? how many have zoomed in on the chest or buttocks while their male protagonist is being so violently abused and prodded at? how many times have they directed POV shots so that the grunting and thrusts of the perpetrator ring louder than horrified pleas of their male protagonist? how many have positioned their male protagonists specifically so that the audience looks directly into their tearful faces, still makeup-ed and airbrushed before anything else? how many times have they focused more on the clothes ripping off their male protagonist’s struggling-yet-still-perfectly-maneuvered body so that not even a fat roll, stretch mark, or patch of hair shows itself on screen? how many times has a fully nude male protagonist been juxtaposed with a fully clothed perpetrator? how many male protagonists have been made to fully simulate the act from beginning to end, no detail spared, no inch covered, for several long-winded minutes at a time, with no cuts?
this is a violence and dehumanization reserved purely for women. no matter how depraved, bleak, and twisted of the film scenarios, the male body will likely not be stripped and displayed in this way, nor will the degrading violence they face be overtly sexualized for the pleasure of an [male] audience.
they are not condemning rape when they do this. they aren’t critiquing anything. they don’t think it’s truly horrifying. they think it can be erotic or artistic under the right circumstances. porn teaches that the violation, dehumanization, and brutalization of women can be made sexy and empowering, and then those who watch it get in the director’s chair and make that mindset everybody else’s problem.
i hate 90% of men in cinema because they will put the most unrealistic representation of women in their movies but then show a full of details rape scene because it makes it more realistic
