Really fucked up that, when they’re young, Patrick and Art are SO tactile with each other, so comfortable sharing the same space. Art lets Patrick touch him and move him and physically overwhelm him and easily acquiesces to it, if not outright enjoys it.

Then in the present, they’ve been so far out of each other’s orbit for so long, held such animosity that when they have their moment alone in the sauna, Art physically recoils from Patrick’s close proximity! It’s so painful to watch because even as Patrick’s goading him, it’s so obvious he wants to be able to get back into Art’s space. But Art has erected all these walls around himself, he refuses to give Patrick an inch or even admit to missing how close they used to be!

AND THEN we see Art and Tashi later and he wants her to hold him, to be gentle with him, and just TOUCH him. Like, he does miss that kind of close physical contact! He either doesn’t know how to ask for it or is uncomfortable being that openly vulnerable. Worth noting that he pretty much always defers to Tashi in regard to initiating physical intimacy (with their first kiss, though he does state his desire, SHE has to be the one to make the first move). And it seems pretty obvious that Tashi herself isn’t comfortable providing that intimacy, whereas Patrick actively seeks to provide it (the hug/forehead kiss after their win together in the early years, dragging the stool closer to him).

Art has tried very hard to act like he doesn’t need physical affection and even though his discipline and devotion to Tashi has made him a stronger tennis player, it’s made him a hollow person, which, in turn, has kept him from becoming a GREAT tennis player.

All of this, of course, is why the ending hits so damn hard.

I just realized that Riku's hand visibly shakes when he tenses his fingers and wrist during his idle animation.

#kingdom hearts 2 #kh2 #riku #video #i always feel bad for him when i see how he keeps his thumb hooked in his pocket as he walks. how he doesn't walk comfortably #it's clear he sustained a pretty nasty injury from roxas but #it's pretty alarming to see a kh character suffer from an ACTUAL injury yknow?#sora gets beat up left and right but it's nothing a little potion can't fix #it's not like jumping down from a building will break his legs or being stomped on by a huge heartless causes any lasting damage #video game characters can brush all that off and keep going #but i look at riku and i want to take him to the hospital #even more now that i see that he's in visible pain when he has to fight #also ignore the sounds of goofy in the background lol

i love the bit from oct 17 2020 when tommy and quackity trapped wilbur in a cobblestone box to keep him from pressing the button... wilbur punching through the blocks with his bare hand to try to get to the button... tommy frantically replacing the block in front of him yelling for quackity to do something... the moment when tommy stops, blocks the exit, and tells wilbur to do it. press the button. but then theyd die with him. quackitys like "wait, wait-" but tommy holds his ground and wilbur. ohh wilbur. "why'd you have to make it so hard?"

controversial opinion, but i love second-person pov in fic. in this case, i specifically don't mean x-reader; that seems like a different kind of story that scratches another itch.

i want you to be a fully-fledged character, familiar, recognizable. the thing i love about second-person is not that it inserts me into the story as a reader, but that it inserts the narrator as this omniscient, invisible, inescapable force.

in present or future tense -- you do this; you will do this -- the repeated you becomes a back beat of inevitability. the character is being moved from page to page by the voice of god, and we can see god's shadow on the wall. the you is so bound by the constraints of their own character, their own nature, that they could never have chosen another path. it creates an undertone of horror in any genre for me. the story is that there could be no story other than the one the narrator chooses to tell.

#highly unrelatable content i know #but it compels me because it's both so close in to a character's experience and notably separated from it #i remember reading choose-your-own-adventures as a kid and being like ok sure i'm at sleep-away camp and can go right or left in the woods #but who is offering me the choice?#on writing

my laptop charger uhhhhhh. met its end in a very permanent, very fire hazardy kind of way last week. while waiting for a replacement I decided to try and get some work done at the library and was asking around for some urban fantasy (extra points for a mystery plot of some kind) recommendations to check out while I was there

the eric carter series was mentioned a couple of times, AND had the added bonus of having a necromancer for a main character. I love necromancers. someday I'm gonna play one in a game instead of immediately defaulting to vampires.

#i was also told to check out johannes cabal because. again. necromancers. and sandman slim #i'll get around to it next year probably #ive had urban fantasy on the mind ever since I did a full re read of the dresden files and then a SECOND re read of it right after #but from a different starting point and then did an unnecessary examination of harry as an unreliable narrator #with a very specific kind of world vision that does funny things to his perception. idk what purpose that served #ANYWAY. i got a whole list of gritty urban fantasy recommendations to slowly work through next year #i dont really play around with original english language urban fantasy fiction very often because it's like #a lot of what i want out of it I already get out of japanese/korean comics I read and also filipino horror #so I'm not exactly starved for it except that I'm low key kind of starving for it. when will filipino horror return from the war #anyway i appreciate the hate the main character has for spanish colonialism #and as a long time whump enthusiast i love it when a character goes through the absolute wringer #creative liberties were taken. i thought about rolling up the sleeve on his. left? arm and then thought about the tattoos and changed #my mind lmao. i started drawing some of them tho. i once dated a guy who was similarly tattooed and for a minute i thought #'well i can just rip off all of that' and then i thought 'wait i still have to draw it' and decided Not To #eric carter series

how did floyd meet his ex band mates?? what did he think of them?

It was actually completely on accident. Les was getting firewood for their campfire when he heard a barely audible distressed sound nearby and found Floyd wrapped up in a spider's cocoon. Poor guy was fighting for his last breath when Les rescued him.

Les invited him back to the camp to check over his injuries, which then became a meal and overnight stay (they live in a bug RV), and then a longer stay to mend, and then Floyd was invited to join their band and just stayed for good (mostly because Les was worried what could happen to the kid if he was left alone again (Floyd was pretty malnourished when they found him, after about a year since he left the troll tree, and pretty touch starved too.))

As for what Floyd thought. It was pitch dark in the woods when Les pulled him out of that cocoon so he couldn't get a good look at the guy. The only thing he could tell was that he was insanely huge. But he thought that he must have been just a really big rock troll in a fluffy sweater. When they finally got to the fire he had quite a shock. He was disturbed and intimidated by everyone for sure, since in this AU he'd only met rock trolls so far and hadn't even heard of other types. Add the fact that he had been sure he was going to die not long ago, I'm positive he was in shock for most of that night.

floyd is like a wet shivering kitten left out in the rain, who wouldn't want to take him in??
