Star trek + Hilda Hurricane ( crossover)
I had this drawing saved and finished for a while now. So I thought, why not post it?
Hilda Hurricane (or Hilda Furacão in original name) is a mini series that tells the story of a whore who falls in love with a priest.
So I thought, why not make a fanart where Spock is the priest (Malthus) and Kirk is Hilda?

My best friend and I have been watching Star Trek: The Original Series for months, mostly because we're both sometimes busy and can't coordinate, but he does adore Star Trek (it is hard to overstate how much, except with regard to Picard) and even though I'm a TNG kid, I am almost always having a great time with it.
Overall: I love the stage-y Pepto-Bismol meets bisexual flag aesthetic of so much of the show, the actual bisexual vibes of so many characters (unintentionally? allegedly? I guess?), the effects that have aged remarkably well almost as much as the ones that have aged terribly, but are part of its charm, and of course, many of the characters. And I definitely have enjoyed the mixture of cheesy silliness with deeply earnest aspirations towards transcending its own era, even though it falls short (I'm an early modernist; I have a high tolerance for works that are ultimately of their times, but visibly trying to cut through the miasma of their eras' norms).
Anyway, some thoughts on each episode I've seen thus far!
[It's every episode up to "Metamorphosis", so there are a lot.]
1— "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - a pretty solid way to start the experience for me, and I see the religious skepticism has been baked in from very early, even though it's obviously still finding its footing at this point. I actually enjoyed seeing the wobbly character dynamics and world-building as it's figuring itself out.
2— "The Man Trap" - I really enjoyed this one! Despite some fundamental silliness, there's an interesting mix of horror and pathos (I support the salt vampire!).
3— "Charlie X" - a mixture of "oh God, poor Janice" (an impression that will repeat often) and an interesting take on the interaction of power and youthful masculinity. Charlie's outrage at his desires being stymied by literally anything or anyone at any time feels unfortunately timely, as does his petty vindictiveness against ... um, every woman ever, and Kirk's entirely correct lecture about it. I also found something particularly intriguing in the contrast between Charlie's admiration of Kirk's form of masculinity and how viscerally threatened he is by Spock.
4— "The Naked Time" - I adored this episode with zero irony. I particularly loved the revelation that Spock is ashamed of his feelings for Kirk (......) and the guilt he feels over his emotional distance from his mother combined with his understanding of how isolated she must feel in Vulcan culture. But I also laughed through the entire rest of the episode. Just a great time.
5— "The Enemy Within" - oh, hella yikes take on, uh, the inherent need for a good leader to have an anxious, violent, rapist side to his personality kept under control by a fearless, but vacillating and cerebral other side. (The premise seems even more egregious after "The Galileo Seven" makes a whole episode out of the idea that Spock's intellectual discipline and reserve undermine his leadership capabilities unless he behaves in a way that can be seen as fitting into human emotional norms.) I did cackle over the space dog fluffy alien creature and its evil twin, but poor Janice x100 :(
6— "Mudd's Women" - easily the worst episode to date, good God. Quite apart from "I guess sometimes you just have to be complicit in sex trafficking carried out by a lovable scamp who definitely hasn't gotten the post-capitalism newsletter" and the godawful ending, I am baffled by everyone on the Enterprise acting like they've never seen a beautiful woman. None of Mudd's women can hold a candle to Uhura (who I think isn't even in this episode?) and women getting obsessed by eternal beauty and devoting themselves to unappealing men is a tiresome aspect of ST that I wish had stopped here. Or never shown up at all.
7— "What Are Little Girls Made Of" - ah, the iconic phallic stalagmite! Nice to have context. I appreciate how smart and resourceful Kirk ends up being here. I liked Shatner's performance as the Kirk clone (he's actually been good in all the various Evil Kirk performances I've seen thus far), too. But I also really liked Spock's entirely justified annoyance at Kirk using racial slurs to communicate IT'S NOT ME.
8— "Miri" - this one is unfortunately dragged down by Kirk using his femme fatale allure with a girl framed as barely pubescent even if the actress was technically an adult. He's clearly not remotely attracted to her and working to save his crew, but it's still really unpleasant to watch, especially with a very young-looking actress. That said, the disease is creepy as hell, and it's a great McCoy episode. I was pretty fascinated as well by the concept of a drastically protracted childhood where the horror is not being trapped in the body of a child, but of actually remaining a child for enormous lengths of time.
9— "Dagger of the Mind" - this one would have been pretty mediocre, in all honesty, if not for the existence of Helen Noel. Helen is staggeringly beautiful, yes, but she is also better than everyone else in this episode, even my usual fave Spock. I like Kirk a lot and I still don't know what she sees in him.
10— "The Corbomite Maneuver" - it's a fun episode with some very good lines, but a bit like cotton candy.
11— "The Menagerie" - I had heard about this one, but didn't know all the details! The show-within-the-show only slightly strains credulity, and the plot is certainly more compelling than SNW (sorry to SNW fans; I watched a few episodes and it was fine, but too polished and heterosexual to feel like a true prequel to the boundary-pushing Candyland of TOS).
12— "The Conscience of the King" - this one was a bit over-theatrical in the most literal way, but I still really enjoyed it. The episode provides a genuinely fascinating backstory for Kirk, revealing that in his youth, he was a survivor of a terrible atrocity (and from what else we've heard, it seems he was moved elsewhere and became a bullied nerd for awhile before finding his true calling in space). The "real" villain of the episode doesn't really work for me, but doesn't need to, because her villainy is vastly and rightly overshadowed by the atrocity.
13— "Balance of Terror" - I can't describe this episode any other way: it fucking rules. This is maybe my favorite Star Trek episode that I can remember ever seeing. The revelation of the Vulcan-Romulan kinship is super compelling, and the intensity to this episode's take on the frequent Spock vs the Microaggressions subplot feels entirely organic and believable.
14— "Shore Leave" - fine, but rather a letdown after the glory of the previous one. The back rub early in the episode is as hilariously unsubtle as reported, and Spock's emphatic indifference to the sexbot ladies is, hmm, interesting. Otherwise, it is silly, entertaining-enough ST ephemera for me. I like these episodes existing as part of ST as a whole, but also don't feel especially invested in most individual cases of it. And God, Kirk's youthful nemesis Finnegan is so incredibly obnoxious and his little jig motif is so awful that (given "The Naked Time") I'm starting to wonder what gripe Star Trek has with Irish people.
15— "The Galileo Seven" - you know how I said that Spock vs the Microaggressions is a frequent subplot in these episodes? This one is "what if that was just the whole episode?" It's not terrible, but it's not terribly interesting, either, and the implications are pretty gross if you think about them.
16— "The Squire of Gothos" - I guessed the reveal a bit early in this one, but not in a way that made me feel like it was super obvious. The hints were there if you were paying attention, so it was rewarding to figure it out, but not obvious. Spock's speech about intellectual discipline and power really speaks to me right now, by the way.
17— "Arena" - the Gorn finally appear! Or a Gorn, anyway, and it's kind of wild that the 1967 episode's twist is that the real villain is colonialism, not the Gorn at all. Yet in 2020s Star Trek ... well, anyway, it's a good episode despite the incredibly dated monster effects.
18— "Tomorrow is Yesterday" - time travelllllll hell yeah, and it's quite a decent plot.
19— "Court Martial" - this one was tense and interesting, though I don't have much to say about it apart from really liking the lawyers.
20— "The Return of the Archons" - this was actually very effective, quiet terror for me (maybe extra for me as a queer person raised Mormon, lol). I think it also has one of the better instances of Kirk Fries A Machine With Logic.
21— "Space Seed" - an absolutely fascinating villain alongside absolutely dire gender politics. I did like seeing Khan for the first time.
22— "A Taste of Armageddon" - this had a very interesting war game concept, but I don't remember much about the episode beyond the concept tbh. It was fine.
23— "This Side of Paradise" - this one was interesting, especially given the allure of the "paradise" for Spock specifically (also for everyone else, but there's something especially bitter about whatshername's total indifference to his consent, and yet how complicated his feelings end up being about the whole thing). Kirk's fixation on his authority!!!!! in this episode feels unappealing and rather strange, but I didn't think it was really all about authority and The Human Need For Struggle(TM) that ST will keep returning to (don't like that aspect, though!).
24— "The Devil in the Dark" - an excellent episode IMO, including the incredibly dated rock alien special effects. Wouldn't have it any other way! I honestly appreciate how often the reveal in TOS has been that a scary "monster" is just some innocent person from another species getting screwed over by human ignorance and colonizing.
25— "Errand of Mercy" - Kirk is a patronizing asshole in this episode, can't lie, but given that he's being very obviously paralleled with the Klingon officer, it serves a function that's at least interesting. I'd like if that aspect of his personality went somewhere a bit more cohesively, but I'd rather have the episodic yet forwards propulsion of TOS as a whole, so it's okay.
26— "The Alternative Factor" - this has an interesting concept, but I remember thinking that it was forcing a bunch of usually competent people to make some very stupid decisions (though, tangentially, the fact that this is a change from the norm is at least something: I really enjoy that TOS in general avoids my beloathèd "our protagonists are the protagonists of the entire setting and every other character is an NPC who lacks moral vision and competence independent of the protagonists' influence"). I will say that the repetition of the alternate-universe effect is honestly pretty bad even when I'm grading on a 60s curve.
27— "The City on the Edge of Forever" - this is a very compelling, tightly-written episode that does good character work for Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, even if its underlying premise is a bit challenging to buy at points. I always enjoy getting to see McCoy's medical ethos at play, as we do here. Spock's jealousy is also amusingly transparent against all the high drama.
28— "Operation -- Annihilate!" - this is a hilarious title for a pretty good episode, actually. I enjoyed it and especially enjoyed Leonard Nimoy's performance as Spock here. It's not like I ever don't, but it did some substantial heavy lifting.
29— "Amok Time" - so it turns out, the Spock/Kirk fans have not been exaggerating all these years. I didn't think it was likely they had, just given what I've seen this far, but damn. This is a fantastic episode, it's got interesting world-building for Vulcan, it's incredibly homoerotic even by TOS standards, and despite my fondness for Spock and Kirk, goodforher.jpeg with respect to T'Pring. If Vulcan men don't want their childhood brides plotting their deaths, maybe they should legalize divorce! Just a thought.
30— "Who Mourns for Adonais" - so this episode relies on "actually, every broadly appropriated cultural detail from an exotic distant land was just given to its people by ancient aliens," only this time, it's targeting Greeks! It does get details about ancient Greek culture and religion very wrong, if anyone was wondering. In any case, I guess Star Trek's weird issues with "ethnic whites" is not only with the Irish, though given that my father's background is specifically Greco-Irish, it feels like a weird personal attack. That aside, while "ancient aliens did it all!!!" was not as much of a thing at the time as now, Greek people were definitely more racialized in the USA then, so the use of the trope here was not as trivial as I think it can "read" to modern audiences, esp in the USA.
Apollo's actor does a good job with some hard dialogue, I will say, but I really wish Carolyn had just been playing along and biding her time rather than obviously being a silly female swayed by flattery of her beauty and delusions of vicarious power. Kirk's speech to her is good, but really dragged down by how bad the writing for her is. I did like Kirk's "actually, I'm a strict monotheist" retort to Apollo, though. I know Kirk's characterization eventually goes down a different route, but given the heavy involvement of Jewish people including Shatner in Star Trek (despite Roddenberry's antisemitism), and the historical use of the Greek and Roman pantheons in the oppression of Jewish communities, Kirk's indignation at the idea of worshipping any other god feels apropos.
31— "The Changeling" - Jim Kirk DESTROYS another implacable machine foe with LOGIC!!!! I can just imagine the YouTube series now. Seriously, though, it's fine and a drastic improvement from the previous episode, and I always enjoy a solid ST:TOS episode while I'm watching it. But it was not exceptional IMO.
32— "Mirror, Mirror" - YESSSSS I TOO GET TO EXPERIENCE THE MIRROR UNIVERSE. I loved this episode, honestly. The Mirror Universe is terrible, but super fun both in concept and execution. I love the competence of the prime universe team in the brief cut to them immediately clocking Mirror Kirk's group as imposters (though I did want more from Mirror Uhura who is just kind of there, though...). I love Mirror Spock being this warped but recognizable version of the character. I love the concept of Mirror Kirk being the perpetrator of war crimes exactly like Kirk's formative trauma back in "The Conscience of the King." I love the evil cutthroat BDSM space Byzantines vibes of the Terran Empire (is there an unimaginably decadent and deadly Byzantine Empire in the history of the Mirror Universe? I hope so. We deserve it after "Who Mourns for Adonais" tbh).
33— "The Apple" - this is a pretty fun one. The protagonists as the sort of serpent of this "Edenic" garden, coupled with the awful god creature is super entertaining, and it works well enough despite the show's erratic approach to religion.
34— "The Doomsday Machine" - damn, the commander in this episode is such an asshole. He's clearly meant to be, though, and his Ahab campaign turning out to not be entirely in vain at least makes it seem like there's a point to spending so much time on him being the worst.
35— "The Catspaw" - by coincidence, my best friend and I ended up watching this not far into November, just a few days after Halloween. About five minutes in, I said to him, "Is it just me, or is that castle clearly just Spirit Halloween?" He delightedly said, "This planet is Spirit Halloween!"
There's a bit of racial essentialism about ALL HUMANS that would be uncomfortable if it were not so patently ridiculous. The idea is that human beings have a basic racial fear of cats that the tiny aliens exploit—yes, "cats" in this episode refers mainly to the human fear of the house cat, aka the most successful and beloved domestic species on Earth, not lions or even cougars. The alien terrorizes the cast by taking the shape of a fluffy black house cat of varying sizes, but never any other kind of cat. This concept is hilarious, just to be clear. I enjoyed every moment. Even a super-large house cat is just even more friend-shaped floof to your basic human, let's be real, so the deadly threat is impossible to take seriously even before the giant house cat is revealed to be an incredibly horny alien lady with illusion powers (this persona is also an illusion, but the horniness is real). But are not all cats at some level horny alien ladies with illusion powers? I feel pretty sure that Star Trek thinks so.
36— "I, Mudd" - and the award for Most Improved Character has got to go to Harry Mudd. My bff and I actually had a great time with this episode, in part because the entire cast seem to be having a great time with it. I especially loved the twist with Uhura seeming to fall to the womanly weakness of desiring eternal beauty and the easy life only for it to be a trick. Mudd is still a sleaze, but a much funner one to watch this time, and we've just started quoting Spock's "He didn't pay the royalties" at random moments. The stereotypical nagging wife is what it is, but I'm grading Mudd episodes on an extra curve.
37— "Metamorphosis" - and at least, we've reached the most recent episode I've seen, so my impressions of this one are much more fresh. Somehow, I had no idea we first met Zefram Cochrane in TOS and not in First Contact. Also, wow, the actors for him and for the Commissioner are really attractive—not quirky 60s attractive, either. Cochrane reminds me vaguely of Henry Cavill and the Commissioner is simply gorgeous despite the blinding color scheme of her costume.
The gender essentialism sure is something at this point, I've got to say, when the characters are blandly agreeing that of course a sentient electric cloud must have a fundamental gender that you can kind of tell by the color scheme. Uh huh, but it is genuinely interesting that Cochrane clearly cares about the cloud and tries to protect her from our heroes until he realizes she loves him, but is so affronted at the idea of the cloud being in love with him and his (very obviously sexualized) communion and companionship with her being part of that.
He projects his revulsion primarily onto Spock (Spock vs the Microaggressions strikes again!), but literally everyone finds his attitude narrow-minded and weird. The feeling is kind of like if you met an idolized long-dead relative only for them to use a homophobic slur you've never even heard of.
The resolution of this little drama comes from the cloud bodysnatching the dying Commissioner, a young woman who longs to be loved by anyone at all after a life of being a loveless career woman. She is, to be clear, a career woman whose job is all about preventing warfare and who is deeply stressed about it, which seems a kind of love to me. But she is mostly framed just as this super abrasive, loveless career woman because it's TOS (and they eventually conclude that any woman could do her job and they'll just find a different one to stop the war).
Anyway, all this results in the somehow-female cloud fusing with what remains of the Commissioner's consciousness, curing her body of some fatal disease. Now that the cloud is fused with an actual (hot) human woman, Cochrane is totally chill with her love for him, and decides he can have a very strange threesome love her after all, and they'll live out these bodies' natural lives together until they both die (since she lost her electric cloud powers of healing and immortality when she bodysnatched the Commissioner, I gather). It feels weird and low-grade shitty on his part, although I like his actor's performance, because it makes it so clear that his aversion was only about appearances.
I think the cloud should have moved onto someone who would appreciate her devotion and restorative powers, like, say, the dying Commissioner lady who actually has this whole speech about how badly she longs to be loved and how she doesn't get why Cochrane is being such a baby about the adoration of a cloud. Look, I'm just saying the cloud could be bi and deserves someone who would appreciate her.
I know this was never going to happen on a nationally syndicated show in 1967, but I think it would make more narrative sense and be much more satisfying! Cochrane would love space adventures 150 years in the future—he was thrilled and excited about the idea of seeing the reality of the Federation and alliances with other species! And the Commissioner would appreciate a cloud girlfriend and immortality so much more than him. Hire me, Paramount.

For the OC basics ask game: 13 + 14 + 15 for Bethany, please??
@dancingsunflowers-ocs ✨💛✨
I love my dear Bethany O'Neal:
13. What is your oc’s most prized possession? What’s the importance/meaning behind this item?
Bethany's most prized possession is a locket with a picture of her family. Despite her family not always understanding her choices, she does love them unconditionally. They are the reason she joined Starfleet, and knowing that every day she is in space is another day they are safe keeps her going.
14. Does your oc have any hobbies? How did they get involved in these?
She keeps most of her hobbies a secret, with the one exception of drawing. She is an amateur artist who takes inspiration from the worlds she visits and the people around her. It's her release from her job, which she only shares with a few close people.
15. What’s your oc’s favorite color? Does this color have any special meaning/symbolism?
Bethany's favorite color is white, a clean and minimalistic color with many possibilities. Given how chaotic her job is, she likes the simple things in life. One of the first things Jim learns around her is to clean up after himself, especially given most of her home is white. Plus, she rarely has time to live in her home, much less decorate it with color. The only splashes of color she brings into her life are bits of yellows and blues once she starts being at home a bit more.
ask me a question & spread some positivity!

Yeehawgust is coming and my sequel story from last year has been lagging, but here comes motivation (to be done so I can write the third part!) and chapter two!
Where the West Begins
2. Cowboy Casanova
“What are you going to name him?” Christine asked Jaylah.
McCoy rolled his eyes where he was sitting on the porch. Jaylah was petting the little kitten on her knee and teasing him with a piece of string. No one who had gone looking after lunch had found any more sign of the big cat whose footprints Scotty had discovered.
“I’m still thinking,” Jaylah answered Christine. Both laughed as the kitten batted his paws at the string and caught it.
Jim had been fine with the idea of Jaylah keeping the cat when he and Spock had returned.
“Never hurts to have a good barn cat,” he’d said.
“Hmm,” said Jaylah as the kitten turned and meowed at her. “How about Franklin? You look like a little Franklin.”
“Does it need a name?” McCoy asked.
“Of course!” said Jaylah.
“Yes!” Christine agreed.
McCoy couldn’t help but roll his eyes again and look away as Jaylah cooed over her new pet. Keenser came up on the porch then. He took one look at the cat.
“Keep him from the flocks,” was all he said before he entered the house.
McCoy was working in the main yard the next morning when the man appeared. A chill of memory went down his spine as he recalled just a few months before when another man had walked onto their ranch. That man, Khan- who had called himself John Harrison- was waiting for trial in a jail cell.
“Good morning!” The man called as he saw McCoy.
“Hello,” McCoy said back cautiously.
“Is this the Enterprise Ranch?”
McCoy looked at the man. He had to be about Jim’s age, with dark hair combed neatly and a face that had seen much sun. An accent lilted his question to McCoy, and he frowned slightly, trying to place it.
“It is,” he answered slowly. “How can I help you?”
“I’m looking for James T. Kirk; does he live here?”
“Yes.”
The man’s face broke into a broad grin and he let out an exclamation McCoy didn’t understand.
“Pardon my manners! My name is Kevin Riley,” the man gave a brief bow.
“Leonard McCoy.”
“I knew Jim long ago,” Riley continued. “I’m traveling west and heard he was here.”
“Well if you walked out from town, come in and have a drink,” McCoy said, his caution dropping. “I can go find Jim for you after.”
“Thank you kindly,” Riley smiled. “I am a wee bit parched.”
“Where are you from, if I may ask? I can’t place your accent.” McCoy gave him an apologetic look as he led him to the front porch.
Riley grinned. “A descendant of the kings of old Éire I be! Ireland is where I was born,” Riley clarified at the slight frown on McCoy’s face.
“Perhaps you’ll get on with Monty then. He’s from Scotland,” said McCoy. “Have a seat.” He gestured to the porch chairs. “I’ll have one of the girls get you something to drink and find Jim.” McCoy nodded at the man, then disappeared into the house.
McCoy found Jim with Spock and Chekov in one of the work sheds.
“Hey Bones!” Jim greeted him. “Come to help finally?”
McCoy frowned down at the project the men were working on.
“No. There’s a man here to see you.”
“He give a name?” Jim asked, cocking an eyebrow.
“Kevin Riley.”
“Kevin Riley?! Well hot dang!” Jim hurried from the shed with twinkling eyes.
McCoy shrugged at the questioning look Spock gave him, then left the shed to return to his own work.
Kevin Riley proved to be a lively, kind person when everyone gathered for lunch. Jim introduced him around and he sat near Jim at the top of the table.
After lunch Jim hitched up the wagon and went back into town. He had insisted that before Riley continued west he had to stay on the ranch a few days. Therefore Jim would go with him to collect his things and bring them back out.
“He seems a good fella,” Sulu said as the men and Jaylah got back to work.
“Maybe,” Chekov muttered.
McCoy glanced and Scotty who shrugged.
“What do ye suppose got into the wee lad?” Scotty asked McCoy as they settled down for the evening.
“Chekov? Dunno.” McCoy thought back over the evening. Jim and Riley had returned and after dinner everyone had gathered around the porch to enjoy the cooling air after the heat of the day.
The pair had regaled them all with stories of their younger years and Riley had fit in quite nicely. He was kind and polite and paid the ladies many compliments throughout the evening.
At breakfast, McCoy figured it out. Keenser didn’t often come in for breakfast with everyone; after getting the stoves lit for the ladies, he’d head out with his flocks. Riley chose Keenser’s open seat and talked at length with Jaylah across from him.
McCoy saw then the way the corner of Chekov’s mouth twitched. McCoy smothered a grin and ate quietly.
He caught Scotty after breakfast and bumped his shoulder with his. Scotty looked over questioningly.
“It’s Jaylah,” he said quietly and nodded towards Chekov.
Scotty frowned for a moment, then his puzzlement cleared as he watched Jaylah lead Riley away to show him the ranch.
“Well,” was all he said with a chuckle.

it's very hard to choose, even just picking from my absolute favourites ever, but here's a very short list of some of the fics that have had the most impact on me (in the order I read them)
Notes On A Love Story by @a-candle-for-sherlock (ACD Holmes | Johnlock | G | 4k)
Watson finds a copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray in Holmes' room. Or: what happens when a queer novel upends Baker Street.
Dear Daddy by cosmosatyrus (Star Trek AOS | Mckirk | T | 90k | 40 Ch)
Joanna McCoy, daughter of CMO Leonard "Bones" McCoy, deals with being nine years old and her parents' divorce. James T. Kirk finds her to be a kindred spirit.
Your Daughter by @agrlsname (BBC Sherlock | Jonhlock | T | 9k | 6 Ch)
Five times Sherlock held John's baby and one time he held John. John didn't forgive Mary for shooting Sherlock, so the end of HLV didn't happen. When the baby comes John lives with Sherlock at Baker Street, and they take care of the newborn together. Sherlock adores her more than he's prepared for. Oh, and he might have something important to confess to John...
Teaching Tarsus by AnEscapeFromReality (Star Trek AOS | T & G | 6k & 3k | Series)
James Kirk was the rudest student Professor Heleine ever taught. He stomped out of the middle of the professor's lecture like he wasn't a mere cadet. Well, the professor was done putting up with him. If he couldn't sit through an expert lecture, then he should give the lecture about Tarsus. That would teach him some respect.
Ten minutes, ten days, and ten years after first year cadet James Kirk gave his guest lecture on Tarsus IV, people learned about it.
for the record, I end up sobbing every time I reread this series, and I reread it often.
Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach by Nnm (Good Omens (TV) | Azicrow | T | 99k | 16 Ch)
As soon as Aubrey Thyme, psychotherapist, had opened her office door and seen her new client, Anthony J. Crowley, sitting in her waiting area, she was observing and assessing him. At first glance, she paid attention to the following: --His clothing was expensive and stylish; --He wore very strange but noticeable cologne; --His relationship to the seat he occupied could only, very loosely, be described as “sitting;” --He looked angry; --He was wearing sunglasses. What Aubrey Thyme, a professional, thought, upon first seeing her new client was: you’re going to be a fun one, aren’t you?
this fic is about as classic as you can get in a fandom as new as Good Omens (the TV show, not the book). truly the pinnacle of therapy fics. it made me want to go to therapy, it made me wish my therapist was half of what Aubrey Thyme is in this fic. I have reread this fic more times than I can recall and I've listened to the podfic by @starcatcherbetty probably even more times than that.
A Little Place in the Country by @dietraumerei (Good Omens (TV) | Azicrow | G | 124k | 28 Ch)
Wanting a change, Crowley and Aziraphale decide to buy a place in the country and fix it up. It goes exactly the way you'd think, and exactly opposite of the way they thought. (Featuring a female-presenting Aziraphale and a Crowley who experiments a lot with gender. Also, a lot of discussion on drywall.)
this fic truly impacted me and changed the way I view intimacy. the softness, the romance, the communication and the intimacy in this fic quite literally left me breathless and carving a relationship just like the one they share in a way I've experienced few times before.
How a Romance Novel Saved the Galaxy by @arianaderalte (Star Wars | Many | T | 165k & 7k & 2k & 21k | Series | WIP)
In one galaxy, the novel was never read. In another, it starts a landslide. Or what happens when the Mandalorians learn that the Jedi are exactly what most of them look for in a partner.
my newest obsession lately has been star wars, and this author managed to incorporate so many tropes I love and mix it with some amazing word building and original characters to come up with a fic that feels almost built entirely to suck me in to a new obsession
I'm curious about everyone's "this fic hit me in the id so hard it changed my brain chemistry" fic. Whether it made you cry so hard it gave you a headache or scratched an itch so hard it gave you a new kink or made you laugh so hard you thought you were going to throw up, reblog and tell me the fic that rewired your brain!

All In by little-smartass, spicyshimmy and summerofspock - 87k w., 17 Ch., Rated T, AOS.
Jim opens his eyes. Spock’s face is calm. It’s like they’re not talking about what they’re talking about at all - a living, breathing entity that’s made up of parts from both of them. She’s her own individual, sure, but they’re the ones who made her.
And Bones. Bones had something to do with it.
Jim’s red blood and Spock’s green blood and this steady, soothing heartbeat.
My Beautiful Human by LadyTauriel - 12k w., 1 Ch., Rated M, content Warnings: graphic descriptions of violence and underage. AOS.
Jim is an extraordinary human. He exceeds expectations constantly set for him in all areas of his life. His leadership abilities, his quick thinking, and his intellect are contributing factors to his potential for becoming a great starship captain. His fair colouring and symmetrical features are striking, making him stand out in a crowd of even the most aesthetically pleasing individuals. His mind is like a beaming sun, a warmth that Spock has missed on this cooler planet, pulling him in with all of its promising radiance.
When Jim smiles at Stalek, however, it is his heart and his love that make Jim the most beautiful human whom Spock has ever encountered.
David by WanderingAlice - 58k w., 21 Ch., Incomplete, Rated G, AOS.
When Spock met Lieutenant James T. Kirk and his son, David, he did not expect them to become a permanent fixture in his life. He was wrong.

Their son has Jim's eyes.
What They Could Have Had (And Now It's Ours) by Froggyflan - 28k w., 6 Ch., Incomplete, Rated E, AOS.

“But you will be.”
Spock leaves Starfleet to assist in rebuilding New Vulcan. Jim chases him.
The House of Kirk by Gyptian - 6k w., 1 Ch., Rated T, AOS.
Carol Marcus, possessed of a young son and an engineering degree, was asked to help in reverse-engineering parts of the drill Nero had dropped into San Francisco Bay. In the summer of 2262, she died. Five weeks later, Captain James T. Kirk received an urgent message. The first thing he did was call Spock.
Sorry Is Not Enough by foreverandeveralone - 15k w., 7 Ch., Incomplete, Rated M, AOS.
Spock was put on light duty following an injury. Jim, missing his boyfriend, came to one of his labs and seduced him, which, of course, ended in hot sex.
What Jim didn't know was that Spock was working on creating an environment that allowed the sperm of 2 males to combine into an embryo.
And Spock, distracted by Jim, forgot to close the lid to his completed experiment.
Build Me Up Buttercup by Spiderlass - 176k w., 13 Ch., Rated E, AOS.
Jim had always sort of known that karma would catch up with him one day. After all the shit he’d pulled, he’d have been more surprised if someone up there didn’t eventually go “welp, that’s long enough” and end his streak of good luck.
He’d expected to make it a little longer than twenty, though.
He also hadn’t expected karma to catch up with him in the form of a three-week-old baby girl with pointy ears.
A Little Lady Called T'Val by iknewaman - 108k w., 31 Ch., Rated E, TOS and/or AOS.
Jim doesn’t usually start fights with strange Vulcans at the tram stop, but sometimes you just gotta.
like blood, the stars by startrex - 25k w., 1 Ch., Rated G, AOS.
'You feel nothing! It must not even compute for you! You never loved her!'
He regrets the words the moment they come out of his mouth. But that other, older Spock said that he needed to get command of the ship, and to do so, must get his younger counterpart to acknowledge his emotions. Spock is not the first Vulcan Jim has had dealings with, and he can think of few things that would get T’pri as riled up as quickly as insinuating that she doesn’t love him.
He gambles that Spock is the same about his mother, and it pays off.
(Or, the one where Jim has a Vulcan daughter, and it leads to all sorts of emotions.)
And Betazoid Makes Three by tronjolras - 38k w., 9 Ch., Rated T, TOS. Part 1/3 of the series The Leona K. Yarro Adventures.
While investigating a distress call from an abandoned research satellite, Kirk recovers an unconscious child and unknowingly forges a telepathic connection with her.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go
Chapter 2
Previous Chapter / Next Chapter
Loosely inspired by the song Greek Tragedy by the Wombats
Pairing: Scotty x FemalePresenting!Reader
Word Count: 3313
Summary: The Enterprise welcome party is in full swing, and our two main characters finally meet each other!
Warnings: excessive alcohol consumption (I think that’s it)
A/N: So, I didn’t notice how long this part was until it was too late. I wanted to slip it into two but I couldn’t find a reasonable place to do it. So instead you get over 3k words. Sorry lol. Also, thank you so much to those who showed interest in being tagged, you have no idea how big that is for me!

“Oh my, does this dress make my butt look bigger?” Sara asks, standing in front of the mirror in a shop.
“Is that what you want? If so, yes. Why do you need a new dress anyway? You have so many beautiful ones already.” Y/n wonders out loud while looking through the racks.
“Because I want to make a good first impression. Besides, I heard the crew of the Enterprise are all quite attractive. I’ve got to live up to that.” Sara responds, walking back into the dressing room.
“Sara, you are one of the most attractive people I know. Neither of us would have a problem if we went in something we already owned.” Y/n laughs, pulling out a flowing deep blue dress off the rack. “What about this?”
Sara pops her head out of the dressing room, watching as Y/n holds the dress up to her body. Sara’s eyes widen and shake her head frantically in agreement before her head disappears back into the dressing room, “absolutely. Go try that on right now.”
Y/n walks into a dressing room with the dress in hand. The dress was made with elegant royal blue tulle with embroidered stars speckled over the top layer. It fell over Y/n’s body perfectly, off the shoulders and stopped to about mid-calf, and whished when she moved. Stepping out, Y/n looks at Sara who was now sitting in a chair with the black cocktail dress she had tried on previously.
“You look like a greek god in that dress, Y/n,” Sara mused.
Y/n walked in front of the mirror and twirled. “Is it too much? If I get this, you have to pick a more exciting dress than what you’ve got.”
“It’s not too much but if it takes me getting that dress that makes my butt look good for you to buy that, I’ll do it,” Sara responds while walking over to the rack where she found the aforementioned dress.
With both dresses paid for, the friends left the shop and headed to Y/n’s apartment to pick up the things she needs to get ready at Sara’s.
“So, Let’s see what we’re getting ourselves into,” Sara started, looking at her datapad with photos of the crew while she walks.
“Sara, we’ve looked at these photos thousands of times. We know what they look like,” chuckles out Y/n, weaving their arm with hers.
“Yes, but that was different. Now we’re performing reconnaissance for the party tonight.”
“And what does your reconnaissance tell you?” Y/n glances at the pad.
“That Lieutenant Uhura is very attractive and only one rank above us.” Sara giggles as she reads Uhura’s personnel entry. “She’s also incredibly smart.”
“And very taken by Commander Spock,” Y/n points to the relationship status on file.
Sara deflates slightly before swiping through the next few personnel files. She stops on Commander Spock next.
“And this is the Vulcan you’ll be working under. Good luck with that, Y/n. I hear he’s rather cold.” Sara comments before continuing to swipe.
“He’s not that cold if he’s in a relationship. Also, isn’t he half human?” Y/n stops Sara before she walks into the busy street.
Sara ignores the potential harm she could have caused herself, and next stops on Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott, better known as Scotty.
“Cheif of Engineering. I hear he’s basically married to the ship,” Sara laughs and restarting to walk once the crosswalk is open.
“Next,” Y/n chuckles bad.
“Lieutenant Commander Leonard McCoy, Chief Medical Officer. I heard he has a cute accent but is a bit of a hardass. Remind me not to get hurt a lot.” Sara side-eyes Y/n while she talks.
“Good to know. Bet he knows how to make a good drink though.” Y/n speculates as they enter their apartment building.
“And Lastly, for the head of different groups, Captain James T. Kirk. Quite the looker.” Sara smirks to herself.
“And quite the flirt,” Y/n laughs at her friend as she unlocks her apartment. “I’ll be right over. I just need to pick up a few things.”
Living in the same building as your best friend had its perks. Getting ready for events was one of them. After picking up her makeup and a pair of heels that match her dress, Y/n walks over to Sara’s apartment and opens the door.
“Hey, why didn’t you wake me up this morning?” Y/n questioned, setting her makeup down next to Sara’s.
“Oh, I tried, you wouldn’t budge. I figured you’d make it eventually. And you did! So points for Sara.” She muses as she grabs two hard ciders from her fridge.
“I could have missed graduation!” Y/n fakes anger as she takes the cider from her dear friend.
Both get to work on their makeup and hair. Sara loosely curls her auburn hair, whereas Y/n does her hair in her favorite style. Once they were both ready, they left Sara’s apartment towards the location of the welcoming party, an old-style bar reminiscent of old San Francisco. The two stood in front of the main doors, peering into the windows, unsure if they should just walk in or not.
“Lieutenants! Very nice to see you two could make it.” A strong hand falls on Y/n’s shoulder, causing them and Sara to turn towards the voice to see a hand outstretched. “How about a proper introduction? I am Captain James T. Kirk. You’re welcome to just call me Kirk when we are off duty. And this is Commander Spock.”
Y/n takes Kirk’s hand to shake then trading with Sara to shake Spock’s. “I am Lieutenant Junior Grade Y/n Y/l/n. I just go by Y/n when off duty. And this is-”
“Lieutenant Junior Grade Sara Conners, Sir! It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Well, we should probably get inside and join the party, yes?” Kirk suggests, holding the door open for the other three.
The music playing was just above a comfortable volume, but quiet enough where you could hold a conversation without yelling. Sara and Y/s walk up to the bar to order drinks when a young man approaches them with a wide smile.
“Hello, I’m Pavel Ch-”
“Chekov. Navigation right?” Sara finishes for him, reaching out her arm. “Sara Conners. A pleasure to meet you!”
Pavel chuckles shaking Sara’s hand, “Did your research I see. And you are?” He finishes with a soft Russian accent, looking at Y/n.
“Y/n Y/l/n.” She says, shaking his hand. “Got any suggestions on what to order from here?”
“Well, the midtier brandy is spectacular here. But they do have a wonderful mint julep.” He states before waving over the bartender and ordering himself a brandy.
“We’ll take two mint juleps please.” Sara catches the bartender before he’s able to walk off.
“So, are you two in a relationship? You seem very close.” Pavel questions, sipping from his glass.
“No, just really close,” Sara answers, reaching for the newly arrived drinks and handing one to Y/n.
“Ah, cool,” Pavel beams. “Have you met the rest of the bridge crew yet? I can introduce you!”
Pavel leads Sara and Y/n to a table where Kirk and Spock were sat with two others.
“This is Nyota Uhura and Leonard McCoy. You’ve met the Captain and Spock already, yes?” Pavel introduces the crew with a bright smile. “Everyone, this is Y/n Y/l/n and Sara Conners.”
Hello’s and handshakes were exchanged. Pavel is pulled away by a few other ensigns towards what Y/n now notices a karaoke machine.
“So, Lieutenant Y/l/n, You will be working under me. Is there a particular area of study you wish to work on while abroad the USS Enterprise?” Spock questions.
“Oh, um yes. I’m looking specifically for new worlds with large deposits of Bio-mimetic Gel. It has many wonderful medical applications but very-” Y/n is cut off by Leonard.
“Regulated by the Federation. Do you have the proper paperwork and training to be handling such a hazardous material, young lady?” Leonard questions.
“Hey, we’re here to celebrate and have a good time, not to discuss work. Give the girl one more night of freedom.” Kirk interrupts and chuckles. “Also, call him Bones, he hates it.”
“I would love to answer your question, Lieutenant Commander McCoy. My last two years at the Academy majorly consisted of training and research with Bio-mimetic Gel under the supervision of Erika Biordi. My research has been in stabilizing the gel for transport and more widely used medical purposes. I have papers signed by President Kenneth Wescott and the proper containment materials that should already be aboard the Enterprise. This could be major for doctors all over the Federation. Also, I wouldn’t be able to do this work unless the Captain has approved it.” Y/n smiles thinly at the doctor.
Kirk, Spock, and Uhura all look impressed by the confidence in which Y/n spoke. Bones looks more apprehensive about the situation. Kirk broke the silence, “Y/n have you met Scotty yet?”
Y/n shakes her head no and notices Sara slinked off at some point to talk with Pavel more. Kirk leads Y/n towards the back corner to a table with three chairs. At the table sat a gentleman in a brown leather jacket and a Roylan both embroiled in a heated conversation about… power converters?
“No, Keenser, that will overload the Warp Drive, she won’t be able to take that kind of power without the proper energy suppressers.” A thick Scottish accent talks tensely between sips of whatever is in his glass.
“Can no one on my ship take a day off?” Kirk laughs, clapping his hand onto Montgomery’s shoulder.
“Ey, not when you have a potential explosion risk due to Keenser, Sir,” Montgomery responds.
“Well, I’ve got bad news then. I’d like to introduce you to Lieutenant Junior Grade Y/n Y/l/n. One of the newest graduates from Starfleet Academy. She will be studying Bio-mimetic Gel.” Kirk pulls the third chair out and motions to Y/n to sit. “She’s not getting along so great with Bones and thought you two might get along better.”
And with that Kirk walks away. The three are quiet, Y/n sipping on her mint julep that She’s about half done with.
“Sorry, I didn’t know I’d be interrupting a conversation. You can act like I’m not here.” Y/n said just loud enough to be heard over the sound of Sara and a couple of ensigns poorly singing Africa on stage.
“Why did you decide to study Bio-mimetic Gel?” The question from Montmonery surprised Y/n.
“Oh, um, when I was younger, Bio-mimetic Gel saved my mother’s life while out on a five-year mission. Her ship shouldn’t have even had any onboard, but they had just commandeered some from a smuggling vessel. If they hadn’t found that ship when they did and the doctor on board willing to take the risk, my mother would be dead and I would never have been born. So, when I heard they were wanting to do more research into it to potentially make it a commonly used substance by Federation doctors, I jumped at the chance. Sorry, that’s probably a lot more information than you were asking for.” Y/n found herself rambling.
The Cheif engineer just shook his head slightly, finishing off his drink. “No, I asked, Lass. I rarely get full explanations of why someone joined Starfleet. It’s refreshing. I’ll be right back, I’m going to get a refill. Can I get you anything?”
“Yeah, Sure. I’ll take one of whatever you’re getting. Thank you, Montgomery.”
“Please, call me Scotty.” He said, before walking off towards the bar.
Keenser and Y/n sat in more silence as they finished their drinks waiting for Scotty to return. Peering towards the bar, Y/n notices Scotty being stopped by some ensigns to chat.
“So, how long have you been on the enterprise?” Y/n asks Keenser.
Keenser babbles in his native tongue something along the lines of “not very long.”
Y/n nods in acknowledgment, “very cool. Do you like it?”
Keenser simply nods as Scotty returns, placing a glass in front of Y/n.
“Thank you, Scotty.” Y/n smiles at the man now sitting across from them.
“No problem, Lass. This will unfortunately be my last drink for the night. Going to head up to the Enterprise tonight to get a head start on some undocking prep. Coming with Keenser?” Keenser huffed in response, Finishing his drink and hopping down from his chair.
“Oh, okay. Have a goodnight then. Don’t overwork yourself. It’s supposed to be a night off.” Y/n waves goodbye to Scotty and Keenser.
Almost as soon as they leave, their spots are taken by Sara and Pavel.
“Y/n! You HAVE to get up there and sing!” Sara’s words slur as she waves her arm towards the small stage in the bar.
“Yes, you should take her advice, Lieutenant,” Pavel smiles towards Y/n.
“No, I’m perfectly fine here. And call me Y/n, Pavel. When do you want to go home, Sara?” Y/n looks with a soft smile towards her friend. She isn’t feeling the alcohol as intensely as Sara but she assumes that’s because she’s had significantly fewer drinks than her friend.
Sara looks at Y/n like they’ve just committed the most heinous crime. “What do you mean you don’t want to go up and sing. You have the most beautiful voice! And I bet your dress would look stunning under those lights.” Sara leans further into Y/n, head now resting her head on her shoulder, and whispers, “You can sing that old Earth song you like so much.”
Y/n chuckles at her friend while shaking her head. “You’re going to have to get a lot more alcohol into me before I’m willing to sing in front of the whole crew.”
Before Y/n could finish talking, Pavel was already up and at the bar, ordering a double round of shots. After a couple of minutes, he returns with a tray of purple shots. The trio cheers the first round to their health and quickly follows it with another to their safety aboard the ship. The trio continues to drink and after about an hour, Y/n is successfully sloshed. Sara convinced Y/n and Pavel to sing Sara’s favorite song that her grandmother loved called ‘Shut Up and Dance’. This was not a song to sing well, but more to just yell the word to. They even got a few of the old crewmates to sing along. Y/n was having a blast and finally thought she couldn’t wait to be working with these people. A group of nurses went on next and sang some modern rock anthem.
Y/n cut themself and Sara off after that song and convinced Sara to drink some water and eat some more food. Both slowly started to sober up, Pavel never seemed very drunk though. People begin to leave back to their homes or hotels for the night. It was starting to get late. Y/n shivers.
“Are you cold, Y/n?” Pavel asks.
“A bit, but I’ll be fine.” Y/n smiles at the kind man.
“Um,” Pavel looks around and spots something on the back of Sara’s chair and grabs it, “put this on.”
‘Scotty’s jacket? When did he take that off?’ Y/n wonders to herself as she slides the jacket on. ‘I’m sure her wouldn’t mind. I’ll just bring it to him on the ship tomorrow.’
“Y/nnnnn, come ooon. Barely anyone is left and I got you drunk like you said I had to. Go sing a solo song.” Sara nudges Y/n elbow towards the stage again.
“Fine, but I’m not happy about it!” Y/n laughs, walking onto the stage after the current song ends.
Sitting on a stool on stage, Y/n adjusts the mic to her sitting height. ‘Take Me To Church’ starts playing.
***
Scotty left earlier than he had planned. But talking with the new science officer made him feel odd and he didn’t want to be rude so he lied about needing to work on the ship. She’s much too young for him he thought. She has her whole life of research ahead of them. He couldn’t be with someone who dressed so elegantly, he was a bumbling fool and could never compare. She didn’t need him, some old Scotsman pinning for her. So instead, he and Keenser walked around the surrounding area until they got tired. About an hour had passed when Scotty realized something.
“Keenser, where’s my jacket?”
Keenser looks at Scotty and responds in his native tongue, “you left it at the bar.”
“Damnit, why didn’t you say anything?” He huffs out, turning around to walk back to the bar and get his Jacket.
He had walked further than he realized from the bar and took him about half an hour to return. As he entered the front doors, he watched Y/n walk onto the stage with his jacket on. Confused, he walks up to Kirk who now sat alone at the bar.
“Y/n said you went back to the ship,” Kirk prodded at the engineer.
“Yeah, but I noticed I forgot my jacket.” Scotty’s accent was unmissable.
“I noticed.” Kirk glances knowingly at Y/n who has started singing on stage.
Most people continued to talk but a few people stopped to listen to Y/n sing. Sara and Pavel sat at their table swaying dramatically to the song. Sara even started waving her arms slowly above her head, causing Y/n to chuckle as she sang. Scotty became enraptured in Y/n singing and began swaying lightly to her voice.
On the last line, “Good God, let me give you my life,” Y/n makes eye contact with Scotty, making her instantly blush.
Hopping off the stage, Y/n shuffles towards him while taking off his jacket.
“Sorry, Pavel found your jacket. I planned on giving it to you tomorrow on the ship but I got cold and put it on. Sorry.” Y/n talked fast, face beet red while shoving the jacket into Scotty’s arms and running back towards Sara before he could get a word out.
“Thanks,” Scotty whispers under his breath, looking down at his jacket.
He slides his arms into it, still warm from Y/n wearing it. Her song had entranced him. It wasn’t a song he was familiar with, must be old. He doesn’t usually care for music, but he thought he would listen to music for hours if she was the one singing it. Scotty shook his head free of those thoughts. By the time he came back to reality, Y/n was gone.
“What are you thinking about, Scotty?” Kirk prodded.
“Nothing, Sir. Goodnight” Scotty straightened out his back before leaving the bar and walking to his hotel room.
***
“Sara, it’s time to go,” Y/n spoke quickly
“What? But I’m still having fun.” Sara huffed.
“Yeah, and we both need to be up and on the transport shuttles at 0700. Let’s go, Rockstar. Goodnight, Pavel, we’ll see you tomorrow.” Y/n pulled Sara to her feet and waved goodbye to Pavel.
The cool, damp air was refreshing on Y/n’s skin. The walk wasn’t long to their apartments, which Y/n was thankful for. She helped Sara into her apartment and bed, setting their friend’s alarm with plenty of time to get ready before going to her apartment to do the same. Y/n quickly fell asleep with oddly invading thoughts of one Montgomery Scott.

Ok, ok, ok.
New story time!
The beginning of the sequel to When the Cactus Blooms!
Hopefully posting this will keep me working on it. (I know I have other stories that need to be worked on too, but the block is so hard to fight. Here’s hoping less stress when work gets out for the summer in a couple weeks will help! 🤞)
[I had so much fun writing for Yeehawgust last year that I went back to previous year’s prompt lists to write another Star Trek western. I don’t recall which year’s this was, but I can’t take credit for the chapter/prompts, that’s all @yeehawgust. Thanks!!]
Where the West Begins
Ch. 1 Meowdy!
Life moved at its own pace on the Enterprise Ranch. Though that had been a very quick pace during the previous spring and summer. Leonard McCoy looked out across the north pasture, and let his thoughts drift. Two gangs and a pair of villains taken out. A new addition to their family on the ranch in the form of Jaylah. And best of all, at least to McCoy, love in his life again.
McCoy couldn’t help a smile as he looked over towards where Montgomery Scott was working on the pasture gate.
“Len, look at this.”
McCoy turned to walk back to where Scotty was. His eyes widened as he saw the paw print Scotty was pointing at.
“Oh,” was all he got out.
“We’ll have to let the others know, and keep a lookout in case,” Scotty said.
McCoy moved in the direction the print was facing. “More over here,” he said, as he continued to follow the prints. “Just what we need,” he said sarcastically, “a big cat hassling the cattle.” He looked out at the land around them.
“Probably came down from the hills,” Scotty said, stepping up next to him.
“Hopefully it’s gone on its way and left us well alone.”
“Hopefully,” Scotty agreed.
“Where did they go?” James T. Kirk looked down the table at lunch.
McCoy gave his head a shake. “Didn’t follow them too far and besides the ground was softer by the fence.”
Jim rubbed a hand over his face. “Alright. Spock, we’ll check it out after lunch. Sulu, you and Chekov check on the east pasture. Make sure everyone is accounted for.”
“Can do,” Hikaru Sulu answered and Pavel Chekov nodded in agreement.
“Bones, you and Scotty check around the north pasture, see if you can find anything more.”
“Aye,” Scotty said and looked over at McCoy.
“What about me?” Jaylah spoke up.
Jim’s face gave a guilty start. Jaylah had learned much and quickly, and though Jim tried he did forget on occasion.
“Come with us lass,” Scotty said before Jim could answer.
Jaylah glanced at McCoy and he nodded at her.
In the north pasture, McCoy took off his hat and fanned himself for a moment. The late summer sun beat down.
“I’m not seeing anything,” McCoy called over to Scotty and Jaylah.
“Aye, same,” Scotty called back. They had spread out to cover more ground.
A sudden squeal from Jaylah had both men turning. She had closed in on one of the few trees in the pasture and was looking into its branches.
“What’s wrong lass?” Scotty cried as he began hurrying towards her. McCoy moved quickly as well.
“Look!” she exclaimed, pointing into the tree.
“Get away!” McCoy ordered, thoughts turned to a cougar leaping down at them. A chill went down his spine.
“Lassie!” Scotty yelled as Jaylah moved to the tree trunk.
In a flash she had jumped towards a low hanging branch and pulled herself up. McCoy grabbed onto Scotty’s arm as they stopped at the base of the tree and watched Jaylah climb higher.
McCoy’s heart began to slow its racing as he saw there was nothing but Jaylah in the tree. His fears had been for nothing.
“What are ye doing?” Scotty demanded next to him. He could hear the man’s own fear coming out now as frustration.
McCoy looked at Scotty as a tiny sound drifted down to them. Scotty gazed at him in surprise. Moments later Jaylah dropped to the ground in front of them, something tiny and noisy held in the crook of her arm.
“Look!” she said. She held out a small bundle of fur towards them.
“You scared the hell out of us for a kitten?” McCoy almost yelled.
“Shhh! You’ll frighten him! Look how cute he is!”
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” McCoy muttered and turned around to walk back to the pasture gate.

Monthly Reading List #June ’18
Hello there!
God, I’m late again... don’t know why everyone thinks german people are always on time. I’m definetely not :D
What shall I say... I love the weather right now. For those of you who don’t live in Germany or any part of West Europe: by now we have the best summer in years! It’s hot (at least 26°C, but often up to 30°C) and today was the first day with a little bit of rain (more like hopping into a short shower) in weeks. I love this weather and though I know that a lot of people don’t, please be kind. Actually, I’m a January girl and I know the disadvanteages of winter so I’m absolutely in love with summer and wouldn’t mind to spend my life somewhere where I can have it every day. So, that’s one of the reasons I’m so late with this list. I still don’t own a laptop and with the sun shining so warm I don’t want to spend my time downstairs (in the cold basement) to put this list together. Sorry, but I’m just telling the truth.
But there is another reason for being late. It’s my new job. I’m working for almost 6 weeks now and I still like it! It’s not my dream job, I have to be this honest, but it’s not boring, I’m alsways busy and time flies so I never have this feeling of, damn it, you have to work for another two hours or something like that. So I’m trying to enjoy it, though I’m always exhausted when I come home, doesn’t matter, which shift I work.
But enough about me. I have to THANK every writer here on tumblr for always making my day with great fanfiction. I don’t know what I would do without you. I love the stories and you keep inspiring me for my own writing, so thank you, thank you, thank you! And for all the readers out there: just enjoy the following amazing stories like I did! Can’t wait to share the next list with you!

Runaway Witch: CH 3
“Boss.”
I lift my eyes up from my glass of whiskey to scowl at one of my men. “What?”
He clears his throat and turns to gesture for someone while saying, “Come on.” I watch with a frown as a nymph walks in. They glance around nervously, shifting from left to right. They glance at me with wide round eyes.
“What is it?” I growl impatiently.
Their pale skin flushes a light green and they glance down to the ground. “T-There’s a girl in the forest, sleeping. She’ll freeze.”
“Then why didn’t you bring her here?” I question with annoyance, standing up.
The nymph backs away nervously while stuttering, “I-I didn’t know what kind of person she was! She could be dangerous.”
“How dangerous could she be if she’s freezing to death?”
“Not to death!” The nymph says firmly. “She is… something, I am not sure what. I watched as she warmed herself with internal flames through her palms. But, it is still too cold. Her lips were starting to turn purple.”
“Do you know why she’s in the forest?” I question, walking around the room and grabbing my jacket. I glance at the nymph and watch them shake their head.
“I only saw her walk into the forest, she was coughing. She looked like she had been traveling for a while.”
“What does she look like? Where would I find her?”
The nymph’s eyes widen even further and they gesture to the door, “I will show you.”
I turn to face James, my right hand and order, “Keep the place in check, I won’t be long.” He nods silently and then I look at the nymph, gesturing to the door. “Go on.”
The nymph leads me through the forest and I followed them closely. If it weren’t for the fact that they were already so jittery, I’d just change and track the girl myself. They were white as the snow that blew past us and looked exhausted. Nymphs should either be in town or in hibernation by now.
“She’s here,” they say suddenly, rushing forward to a fallen tree.
Around the tree, underneath the branches, was a lumpy sleeping bag. The only thing that was visible of the said lump was the dark brown hair peeking out at the top. I grunt and kneel down in front of her, peeling the bag back to expose the face of a young looking girl. Her lips were pulled into a pout and her brows were drawn together tightly. Her skin, which looked tan, was flushed and cracking from the cold winds. Next to her was a hiking pack that was leaned up against the trunk.
I hear the nymph start to step back and away. “Hold on,” I growl to them. “I still need your help.”
They whine and stomp the ground, “I’m tired. I took you to the girl! Let me sleep!”
“I can’t just leave her stuff here,” I say, turning to narrow my eyes at them. That’s the last thing that I need of you and you can go to sleep.” They looked like they were going to say no and bolt but then the girl coughs weakly and moans out.
The nymph’s face relaxes and they sigh. “Fine.”
I grab the bag and hand it to them, “Carry this and I’ll carry her. We’ll go to Minnie’s place.”
Minnie’s place was a farm with two buildings on it, that’s not including the barn. I choose the house meant to be lived in. Holding the girl carefully in one arm, I pound on the door. I hear a curse from upstairs and grin to myself before turning to the Nymph. “You can put that here, thank you for your help.”
Nodding, the Nymph sets the girl’s pack down before hurrying away back towards the direction of the forest. I turn back towards the door and wait patiently.
The door swings open and a furious looking Minnie stands in front of me. I grin, “Hey, Minnie.”
“Boy, do you know what time it is?”
“Something came up.”
She looks down to the girl in my arms and hums, his eyes narrowing at the sight. “What’s this?”
Shrugging, I answer, “A nymph found her out in the woods.”
“She human?” Minnie asks, stepping back and making a motion for me to follow.
Shaking my head, I say, “I don’t think so. The nymph said that they say her heating herself up with and I quote “internal heat through her hands”.” I glance down at the girl, she was trembling and shivering. “Didn’t seem to last though.”
Minnie grunts in response and walks to a closet door, yanking down some blankets from the top shelf and continuing towards the living room. I follow her and when she gestures for me to set her down on the couch, I obey. “Get that thing off of her,” Minnie mutters, unfolding the blanket and draping it over her arm. Again, I obey silently and unzip the sleeping bag.
“I’m surprised she hasn’t woken up yet,” I say, pulling it from beneath her carefully.
“I’m surprised she’s not dead yet,” Minnie replies. She works to get the heavy jacket off the girl. While she did that, I go back to the front porch and grab the girls bag. When I return, Minnie barks at me, “Why don’t you make yourself useful and share some of that heat you got?” “And here I thought I had been useful when I, you know, saved her life?” Minnie doesn’t seem to acknowledge what I said and walks past me, towards the kitchen. Sighing, I shake my head and pick the girl back up, lay down on the couch, and rest her on top of me with the blanket covering us both.
She was still shaking but I could feel her temperature rising. Sighing, I hold onto her tightly.
“Do you have any idea who she is?” Minnie asks, walking back in with what smelled like tea. She sets it down on the coffee table before sitting at my feet. I grunt and start patting the girl down. Finding her wallet, I pull it out and flip it open.
“I do now.” I read out what was said on her license, “Samantha B. Kirk. Nineteen going on twenty in a couple of months. Brown hair, brown eyes. Five foot-”
“Booth.” I look up to see Minnie staring at me unamused. Her grey hair was no longer in disarray and was now tied back away from her face. Her skin was pale but warm. She was awake and not happy about it.
“You asked,” I say, holding my free hand up with mock defense.
“Is she listed as supernatural?”
I check before shaking my head, “No.”
“Hm.”
“Hm is right,” I murmur, glancing down at the girl again. She was still flushed but it was softer. Her lips were no longer looking purple and instead were a rosy color. She was looking better but I could hear her lungs wheeze with effort.
Minnie pats my leg before standing up, “I’m going to try going to sleep, you should do the same.”
“I said that I’d be back soon.”
“Well, then I’ll call James and tell him that you lied.”
“Minnie.”
“Go to sleep, Booth. I’ll see you both in the morning.” She waves a dismissive hand before disappearing up the stairs and around a corner.
I huff and let my head fall back against the couch cushion. “Unbelievable.”
