A/N: my first stevie h. fic!! my wonderful ♡ anon inspired me not just to write for him but also to rewatch season 3 which i forgot how much i loved 💕 i wanna start writing for robin because even the little bit that she appears here was so fun to write tbh!! warning for an almost swearword lol but other than that i hope its super fluffy and that you guys enjoy!!

You didn't mind the days that Steve worked. Most days, you called up Dustin and the gang, or Nancy, or Eddie, or you just stayed home by yourself and kept busy with any number of hobbies and activities. Today was different though; lightning ripped through the skies of Hawkins, rain spitting down so hard it nearly drowned out the cracks of thunder that interrupted your every thought. You could feel the anxious regression creeping up on you, and although you'd normally be fine being in little mode unattended in the safety of your home, but with the storm outside turning the daylight black, home didn't feel so safe anymore. Before you could get too little and before the storm could get too heavy, you were grabbing your bag and pulling on your heaviest hoodie, tucking the laces into the sides of your shoes to avoid the stress of tying them as you set out on your journey to Starcourt Mall. 

Just the walk from your house to the covered bus stop had you soaked through to your shirt, and you shivered in the seat as the bus trundled down the slick streets towards the mall. You blinked your eyes, and repeatedly made fists and unfurled them, desperately trying anything to distract you from crying before you could make it to the back rooms of Scoops Ahoy. Normally you didn't like to bother Steve at work, no matter how many times he reassured you that you were always welcome there, but you felt this was rational option for you given the situation. 

When the bus pulled up to the front of the mall, you lined up with the other passengers before sprinting the gap between the bus and the covered entrance. Once inside the dry safety of the indoors, your body mindlessly guided you to Scoops, the illuminated sign shining like the sun you needed so desperately today. Despite the weather being anything but summery, it seemed like everyone in Hawkins was getting ice cream this afternoon, and with your fear of being a bother far stronger than your need for comfort right now, you opted to sit at an unoccupied table in the front corner of the shop, furthest away from the counter.

Opening your backpack, you pulled out your notebook and a gel pen, hoping to distract yourself until the crowds died down. You could hardly keep your attention on the page for more than 15 seconds, flicking your eyes up to the counter and hoping to catch Steve's sooner rather than later. Your prayers were answered as he handed a double chocolate cone the next woman in line, his gaze scanning the remaining customers just as you'd popped your head up to check on him for the fiftieth time. His eyes got wide when he saw your distraught face silently pleading for his attention, and he intended to give you just that. Steve gave you a reassuring nod before holding a finger up to the next customer in line, and then disappeared into the back room. Moments later, he returned with Robin, who took over cash register duty while Steve circled around the counter and speed-walked over to you.

"Honey bun, you doing alright?" He asked softly, already recognizing your fragile state and not bothering with pleasantries as he slid into the booth next to you. 

"Yeah," you nodded, "just wanted to see you, that's all."

"Are you sure? Is there anything I can do to help you?" Steve took one of your hands in his .

"No, its okay." You lied. "You can go back to work, I'm alright just sitting here."

Steve saw through you instantly. He knew exactly what you were feeling and exactly what you were needing now. He looked up at Robin, capably handling the next customers in line, and stood up with your hand still in his. 

"Yeah, no, that's bull, come on baby." He started to tug at your hand.

Not wanting to argue, nor to be left without the warmth of Steve's grip, you gathered your things and stood up with him, letting yourself be led to the back room of Scoops Ahoy. 

You'd never been back here before, and although you didn't really have any expectations to begin with, they certainly weren't exceeded. The employees only break area was bleak and grey, a single table in the center of the room, a big industrial sink, several humming freezers and fridges, and wiry metal shelves were the only things there; but it was quiet, and it was unoccupied. Steve brought you over to sit in at the table in a cold metal chair, digging through your bag and setting out all of your pens in a colorful array, and opened your notebook to a fresh page. Then, he went over to one of the fridges and pulled out a cold water bottle, as well as a bottle of apple juice, and he set them both on the table as well. Finally, he crouched next to you, taking your chin softly in his hand. 

"I gotta go back to work now, okay baby? But I'll be back before you know it."

You nodded, and Steve continued speaking to you.

"We close at 8:00pm." Steve grabbed one of your gel pens and drew a little picture on the corner of the notebook page. "So when the clock looks like that, we can go back home and cuddle all night long. You can even help me lock up the shop if you want, how's that sound baby?"

"Okay dada," you whispered, and Steve pressed a soft kiss to the tip of your nose.

"That's my little bumblebee. I'll just be through that window right there if you need me for anything at all."

And with one more kiss, Steve was back to work. After a few more reassuring glances from him through the partition window, you finally felt at ease enough to start drawing in your notebook, now comfortable passing the time until Steve was off work. With the tension finally released from your anxious body, you lost yourself in your art, coloring little animals, stars and planets, flowers, bugs, and ice cream cones. Before you knew it, you heard Steve's voice call out to the customers still enjoying a late evening treat.

"Alright everybody, Scoops Ahoy is officially closed. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!"

Sure enough, the clock on the wall matched the picture Steve had drawn. Your attention was drawn to the door as Robin walked into the back room, grabbing her bag and a soda from the fridge. 

"See ya, kiddo!" She said, flashing a peace sign at you as she went back out to the front of the store, waving to Steve as she exited. "Thanks for closing up."

Steve waved back as Robin mingled into the crowd of shoppers all on their own way back home, then turned to you. 

"I just gotta clean up a few things before we go," he said, leaning through the window, "but before I do, may I take your order?"

You grinned widely before turning back to your notebook, scribbling out a drawing of your favorite ice cream flavor absolutely covered in toppings. You ripped out the page and handed it to Steve.

"Coming right up baby!"

You happily munched on your ice cream while Steve closed up boxes of toppings and stacked them on the shelves. When the back room was clean, he helped you put your pens away and carried your backpack and ice cream out to the front of the store so you could stay close to him while he wiped off each of the tables, mopped the floors, and closed out the cash register. Finally, Steve helped you throw away the trash from your ice cream, hoisted your backpack onto his shoulder, and held your hand as you slid out from the booth. You walked together to the front of the store, where Steve stopped and turned to you. 

"Would you like to do the honors, honey bun?" He asked, motioning towards the big light switch that controlled the fancy neon sign in the entranceway. 

You nodded, reaching up on your tiptoes to flip the switch, and suddenly the empty mall became a lot darker around you. Steve noticed you tense up and immediately, his hand was back in yours. 

"Don't worry baby. I've got you. You're safe with me." He said, holding you tight as he led you to the garage, and not intending to let go of you for a very long time.

Plot: Mike comforts Little! Will after their fight

"I said FORGET it, Mike!" Will shouts before pushing past Lucas and running up the stairs.

Mike stands there, frozen for a moment as deja vu of the last time Will left alone runs through his head. He only takes a second before he runs up the stairs after him, taking them 2 at a time.

"Will come on. You can't leave, it's raining" Mike pleads with Will, desperation seeping into his town as he catches his boyfriend's arm.

Will turns around with his signature wide eyes and Mike lets out a soft "Oh" when he realises that he's little.

"Hi kiddo" Mike says softly, sinking to the floor with him when Will attaches to his shirt and promptly drops to the floor. "Wanna tell me whats going on buddy?" He prompts, gently carding through his hair.

"Changing. You and Lucas and Dustin don't wanna play with me anymore" Will mumbles into his chest. Mike's surprised by how articulate he is. Usually, when Will is little, he communicates by mumbling or pointing. Mike makes a note in the back of his head that Will isn't fully little yet, already speedrunning a plan to get his now-little boyfriend comfortable and soft.

"Aw, I know bubs. But we still wanna play with you. I'm sorry that we've been so busy." Mike apologises, still running his fingers through his boyfriend's hair, chuckling softly when Will keens into his touch. "Tell you what, how about we send Lucas home and I'll run you a bath, then I can make you some chicken nuggets and we'll watch Scooby doo and have a little night?"

Will just nods into his chest, having fully slipped. Mike just laughs softly again, easily gathering Will up and carrying him inside, eager to dote on him.

oh— wayyyy too many xD if i hc a character as being involved in regression, i’ll usually hc them as being a flip, cause i can never decide. i think jason, tahani, chidi, and eleanor from tgp regress. usually chidi is the big brother / sitter for them all. or janet is the cg!

i thinkkkkk…. charlie from lost is a regressor. and so is kate.

jeff, abed, troy, britta, and annie are all regressors. shirley is the cg sometimes. or britta is the big sister, butttt she’s not very good at it xD

basically every character from stranger things, but mostly steve, eddie, robin, dustin, and nancy. mmmm and will and el sometimes. lucas is sometimes dustin’s cg.

from top gun, goose and mav are flips. when they both regress, carole is their cg.

duke from haven regresses. audrey and nathan are his cgs!! but, audrey and nathan regress sometimes too. usually nathan will regress to an older age like maybe 12-13.

Steve had called Dustin the night before, saying Eddie was in a deep regression, and he has been for 2 days now. But it was Monday, so Steve had to work. So Steve called and asked if Dustin would watch Eddie.

The whole group loved the way Dustin cared, especially for the littles. So if they needed someone to watch one, Dustin was the first to be called. Nancy and Steve also, but they’re adults, they’re busy most of the time.

So there Dustin was, outside Eddie’s trailer, knocking on the door on Monday morning. “Henderson, thank you so much. If you need anything you know the number to the store, right?” Steve asked. “Yes, and you have it taped beside the phone here for Eddie, so I’m sure I can figure out how to call you.” Dustin said sarcastically, walking into the house.

Eddie smiled when he saw Dustin walk in to the living room. “Dusty!” Eddie squealed, jumping up to hug Dustin. “Hey buddy! What do you wanna do today?” Dustin asked. “Hmm, maybe we can play with my figures, watch star wars, do you know how to braid? could you braid my hair? we could colour!” Eddie was so excited to have time with Dustin.

Steve left for work and then it was just Dustin and Eddie. They played for a bit. Watched Star Wars, just like Eddie asked. But then hearing the constant baby talk from Eddie, and the way they were playing make believe, it made Dustin start to feel small. He knew he wasn’t supposed to feel small right now, he was supposed to be in charge, but how could he?

Could you do a story with eddie regressing extra small(0-1) and dustin has to babysit him util steve gets there

Eddie waves his soft block at Dustin, the block makes a light jingling noise as he waves it wildly at his babysitter.

"I'm comin I'm comin" Dustin says as he hurries into the living room with Eddies snack of cherrios.

Eddie spits out his pacifier as Dustin sets the snack down on the coffee table.

Eddie munches on his cereal and throws a bit around while Dustin washes his pacifier for him.

"Dus?" Eddie slurs his speech impacted heavily when regressed so small.

"Yeah little guy?" Dustin asked already having an idea as to what Eddie was going to ask him.

"Tubbies?" Eddie asked giving puppy dog eyes.

"Of course lemme grab the tape" Dustin said as he turned to walk down the hall and grab the tape from Eddies room.

They popped the tape into the vhs and the tv started to play some happy music as colors danced around in screen.

Eddie was clapping his hand and giggling at whatever the characters were saying, he was happy and safe and thats all that mattered for now.

Dustin ran their fingers through Eddies hair as he slept on his lap.

Steve entered the trailer and Dustin quickly shushed him pointing down at the sleeping Eddie with wide eyes.

Steve nodded and came over to them, he kissed Eddies forehead and went to change into pyjamas.

Once he was done he returned and scooped Eddie up in his arms.

Eddie stirred but didn't wake up.

"You can stay the night if you want, it's kinda late and im sure Eddie won't mind" Steve whispered.

"Yeah but I'm not sure the couch is big enough and what about Eddies uncle" Dustin whispered back.

"You could sleep in the bed with us there should be enough room" Steve suggested.

Eddie stirred again and started to wake up, Steve gently bounched him and shushed him when he started to whine.

"Hey Eds is it okay if Dustin sleeps in the bed with us?" Steve wanted to make sure Eddie was comfortable before doing anything, Eddie nodded.

"Mor s'ggle" Eddie replied around his pacifier.

Steve laughed a bit.

"That settles it then, come on i think Eddie has some extra pyjama shorts you can borrow"

eddie being a itty bitty baby and the entire gang just babies the shit out of him and he’s so entertained by baby games and just aaaaa baby eddie makes my heart go wowjsbbsbs basically just an idea you have free reign for everything else just a lil fluffy story of baby eddie getting the love he deserves

“Is Eddie here?” Dustin dropped his bag by the door to Steve’s house. Everyone had been hanging around Steve’s place lately, it was so big and Steve was usually the only one there so it was a great hang out spot.

“I think he’s ‘helping’ Steve make dinner.” Dustin was confused by what Robin meant by “‘helping’” but decided to let it go and head to the kitchen. He found what he saw to be adorable but knew Steve needed actual help. Eddie was being carefully carried on Steve’s hip, extremely entertained by the man’s hair. Steve, however, was desperately trying to get dinner for everyone cooked without dropping the baby tugging at his hair.

“Need a hand, man?” Dustin chuckled as he walked over to distract Eddie. “Is it that obvious? Here, can you hold him? I need to finish making dinner.” He carefully passed the boy to him, quickly resuming his cooking.

“Alright, little guy, let’s get you set up in the living room.” Eddie simply babbled in response, enjoying being carried. Dustin ran to the hall closet and grabbed some blankets & pillows, he told robin to grab some as well. He set Eddie down on the couch and began building a ‘nest’ on the floor, making it big enough to fit everyone with Robins help. The boy squealed and crawled into the huge pile. He rubbed his face on the soft material making the top layer of the nest. “Oh!” Dustin exclaimed before heading to Steve’s room to grab the boy’s ‘little box,’ on the way back, grabbing some things from Eddie’s backpack. He entered the living room with a smile on his face, dropping stuffies into the nest before going through the box. He pulled out a pacifier with the words ‘little dragon’ on it and clipped it to his shirt. Then, he grabbed a decorated bottle and knelt in front of the baby on the floor.

“Alright, bud, do you want milk or juice?” Eddie babbled something that sounded like ‘juice’ so Dustin went with that. Robin played with him while the other two were gone. Steve rarely took so long to cook but he knew Max, Mike, and Lucas would be here soon.

Just as he was finished, he heard the door open. Dustin helped him cary the plates to the living room, bottle in hand. Dustin cooed at the sight in the living room. Robin and the kids were playing with Eddie in the nest. Lucas was shaking his keys, earning angelic giggles from the baby in the nest.

The rest of the night couldn’t have gone better. Everyone ate and Eddie was taken care of & babied for the rest of the night.

Steve's first experience with age regression and caregiving was definitely when Dustin regressed after a nightmare (maybe or maybe not involving eddie) and called him dada bc he was very small and scared :((

Steve's unknown protective caregiver mode kicked in and he just went along with it because Dustin obviously needed the comfort and who's Steve to deny it to his little brother in all but blood \(°- °)/

While Steve's first experience with regressing himself, Robin had bought him a gag gift of a winnie the pooh stuffed animal and he was ecstatic about it /pos

Nancy who was jonnys cg at times immediately knew what was going on and helped him when he begged her to open it and she obliged, how could she not?

After Steve went to sleep cuddled up to winnie, Nancy decided to explain what was going on and that's how they found out robin was a regressor too!

sorry this was so delayed btw, i've been pretty drained with lack of sleep & other summer things, not to mention this concept got SUPER long

something about these two events makes me think they happened in like the span of a few weeks maybe? hekdjwodksk idk why??

like ,, steve & dustin had been having a sleepover (rlly less a sleepover more of a "we fell asleep during our movie marathon" moment) when dustin is startled awake in the middle of the night by a nightmare. The Nightmare – the one about that night, after a certain someone ... you know :(

it's particularly scary in this case bc he woke up in the dark on a couch, in a place that wasn't home; even with that nightmare, being at home & able to instantly recognize where he was, able to snatch a comfort item in a blink offered some instant comfort, especially with a rapidly regressing brain. not being at home adds more of a scare, regardless if he actually knows the place (steve's house)

the exact moment he starts whimpering upon getting greeted with darkness (the thing he was in) & then full on crying, unable to properly see exactly where he was, something in steve’s slumber begins to feel wrong. he stirs to hear sniffling coming from where dustin had been sleeping. he's got a knack for knowing in his gut when one of his friends are crying, especially the kids

"dustin?" he mumbles, already getting up to go to him, but dustin kicks off his blankets as best he can to get to him first, but he ends up getting tangled so he can't – no no NO the bats got him he's gonna get EATEN – now crying audibly & reaching out frantically for him. steve, naturally being concerned, is now even more concerned for him, but when he untangles dustin from the mess of blankets & the kid crashes into his arms, sobbing "dada...!" over & over again into his chest, every part of him SCREAMS oh my god, he cannot let him out of his sight for the rest of the night

steve sits there for as long as it takes to calm dustin, rocking the sobbing little guy back & forth in his lap, messing with his curls to ground him until his cries tamper off into simple sniffles & hiccups. he asks, in a gentle (bordering on parental) voice if he wants to talk about it, but when dustin responds with a low whine, steve doesn’t press. instead, he carries him to the kitchen (given dustin refuses to let him go no matter what) & offers him a bottle of water: “don't drink too fast, mkay?”

dustin proceeds to drink too fast even with steve's hand partially keeping it steady, choking a little on the water

“that's exactly why, buddy.”

dustin looks at him – god, the look in his eyes is so innocent. “so’hy dada...”

steve smiles; if had any doubts about what dustin called him before, they're all gone now. he definitely called him dada. “it's alright. just drink a little slower.”

he spends the next hour getting dustin to relax by taking him to his room to playing numerous made-up games (ranging from peek-a-boo to some kind of tickle game he made up on the spot), indulging in junk food, & continuing their movie night (but forgoing any horror movies). dustin gets fussy when he starts getting sleepy, afraid of another nightmare, but steve brings him close to his chest, bounces him on his knee, & plays with his hair – in minutes, dustin's snoozing peacefully on his lap with two fingers lodged in his mouth

as cute as it is, steve can't help but wonder: what was that all about?

come the next morning & dustin is so embarrassed – like more than he's ever been in his entire life. literally the moment he wakes up & notices steve is up as well he's LAUNCHING into this apology, how he didn't mean for any of that to happen, how he knows steve isn't his dad but in the moment with his scrambled & terrified brain it just slipped and he'll never do it again, god he's so weird–

“dustin! dustin, it's fine! i'm not mad or anything, i promise.”

“you're– you're not?”

“no, ’course not, dude. i'm just ... a little confused about what happened last night.”

brief relief washes over him. thank god he's not mad. “okay. okay, cool ... great.”

dustin tells steve about everything that went on that night over some breakfast he made, but dustin is more playing with his food than anything; steve already said he wasn't mad about it, but will that hold up after he tells him about how this isn't his first time feeling small & how it's formally called age regression? will he still like him after it all?

"oh. okay."

"...okay...?"

"yeah. okay. you said it helps you deal with ... what happened, right? that it's a reaction your brain has when things are too much?"

"mhm."

"then why wouldn't it be okay? a lot of shit has happened and after so much of it, your brain kinda..." steve makes this whistling sound as he dives his finger toward the table, then an exploding sound when it hits. "so it's just trying to protect y- dustin? you okay?"

he asks bc dustin is crying over his plate of uneaten breakfast & that cg surge from last night comes back, though not as strong as before. he's ready to hop up from his chair to comfort him, but: "th-thanks, steve. you're- i love you, man."

steve smiles gently & takes his hand in his. "i love you, too. now eat your breakfast, i slaved over that stove for you and my hard work is getting cold!"

for about two weeks, steve & dustin are like even tighter than before with their new dynamic: dustin feels small, he walkies steve, steve comes over, & they take it from there. all is well, really! nothing too out of the norm, but steve learns some things abt this little guy in the process – like how he loves stuffing foreign objects in his MOUTH, dustin you canNOT eat this WATCH

of course, things are relative in the norm – yknow, baby dustin / cg steve – until steve is presented with a winnie the pooh stuffie from robin when he visits her & nancy three weeks after dustin's nightmare, & this sudden yet pleasant fuzzy feeling washes over him the MOMENT he sees the cute little tail sticking out of the wrapping paper. he knows INSTANTLY what the gift is bc he was like, the BIGGEST winnie the pooh fan when he was little (& actually still is 👀), so he doesn't even have to see the whole gift – he just knows

he's so excited he can't even get the wrapping paper off, it keeps slipping thro his butterfingers 😭😭 "nancyyy!! nancy nancy nancy nancy!!! need help!! help help help, p’ease!!", bouncing on the balls of his feet & wiggling like a little worm AUGH ╥﹏╥ nancy is MELTING on the spot as she goes "i got it. bud, give it here." & opens it for him - IMMEDIATELY steve grabs it & tugs nance & robin along to play with his new toy ,, robin is a little bit confused bc ?? what's up with her best friend?? he doesnt usually act like this?? but she never ever judges him – that's not who she is!! in fact she might've played a little harder with him than nancy did 🤭 not that that was a problem, bc nancy was sitting there monitoring the two of them, soft around the edges thinking about how similar little steve is to jonny ˙˚ʚ(´◡`)ɞ˚˙

& when steve starts drifting off to sleep & nancy tucks him (and winnie, ofc <3) into bed, robin's earlier confusion comes back

"hey, nance? uh ... what was that? not that i'm gonna judge or anything like that! i'm just ... a little confused? i've never seen him act like that..."

"oh! it's called age regression. kind of like when the mind reverts to a simpler stage in life for one reason or another. usually it's because of trauma, but other times it's for stress and whatnot."

reverts back to a simpler stage because of trauma or stress... "nancy...?"

"yea, rob?"

"can people .. regress just for fun, too?"

"i'm pretty sure they can."

oh.

is that the fuzzy feelings that comes to her when she passes the care bear stuffies at the store or sees one of their movies at work?

is that why she gets so giggly at simple things like watching dogs play fetch at the park or going up high on the swings?

that ... has to be why she feels much smaller than normal when she has a doctor's appointment & cries more freely when she has to get a shot, right?

that's ... the same feeling she kind of felt while she was playing with steve.

"robin? are you okay?"

"oh– yeah, just .. figured out a few things about myself, that's all."

even though she's not very explicit about what she means, when she meets nancy's eyes, it's clear that she understands by the way she smiles

& in that hour or so later, after steve wakes up, out of his newfound headspace and finds robin & nancy chilling in the living room, talking amongst themselves, winnie still in his arms, nancy is prepared to talk to steve about what just happened - like homegirl has a speech at the ready

"hey, steve?"

"hey, nancy."

"you're probably really confused on what just happened-"

"mh, no. not really. age regression."

well. her speech is thrown out the window instantly 💀 she spent that entire hour practicing with robin & he just. already knows?

"wh–? you already know? you've regressed before?"

that night with dustin – and all of the days following it – come barreling into steve's mind. a fond feeling softens his heart

"yeah. a friend told me about it."
