Xbox ~ Motion Brand Identity from ManvsMachine on Vimeo.
When Microsoft launched the Xbox One they commissioned Man vs Machine to design their global motion brand identity. The Xbox logo animation is one of their most iconic brand elements and our task was to translate their new logo into a full 3D brand language, with this item being the long form brand expression.
A key aim was communicate how the brand has made the transition from core gamers to people who love music, television, films and apps. It’s evolving towards broad entertainment. Xbox has become a premium experience.
As a result we wanted to play on the idea that Xbox is constantly reinventing itself. The brand development film focused on a rhythmic self-generating X; a dynamic spherical form which simulated the evolving nature of the brand. We designed the resolve to feel clean and effortless, seamlessly folding together multiple layers into the logo.

36daysoftype 2016 - Oelhan from OELHAN - Jordan Coelho on Vimeo.
I am very happy to share with you this set of animated letters made for the 36daysoftype with love and sundown coffee.
--
This project allowed me to test myself, to be creative, to experiment styles, techniques, and enjoy to share with all the awesome designers who participate.
--
My 36daysoftype was also a collaboration with BJ Derganc who is an awesome sound designer and friend that I met up at the beginning of this project, he daily made sound designs on my animations within a short time. Thank you buddy !
Thanks for watching !

Rhythm Scope - Critter & Guitari from Critter & Guitari on Vimeo.
critterandguitari.com/rhythm-scope
The Rhythm Scope is a video synthesizer that generates visual patterns in response to beats. It is designed to work with rhythmic sounds (short quick hits, arpeggios, etc.), providing an easy way to get visuals synchronized to music and sound!
The Rhythm Scope features 16 selectable patterns, including strobe effects, flashing squares, rotating blocks, and random pixels. It also features a Randomizer mode. You can set the Randomizer to automatically change modes every 1-16 beats.
Starting at 0:10, you can see the 16 patterns displayed in a grid and responding to the same beat.
Starting at 0:43, a Rhythm Scope has been set to switch to a random pattern every eight beats. The sound input is a Pocket Piano arpeggio.
To operate: Connect it to a television, projector or video rig and connect a sound source to the ¼" audio jack. The Rhythm Scope detects the level of the audio input and when that level reaches a certain threshold, it triggers a change in the pattern. Select one of the 16 patterns and, using the gain knob, adjust the sensitivity to the audio input.
Use the Rhythm Scope with a projector for live performance, TV in your living room, or as part of a larger video mix!

Fugue from Optical Arts on Vimeo.
The film is a set of exactly repeated actions, but each time using different objects. It uses the structure of the fugue to create the films narrative, playing on the fugues characteristic of stating the subject in different voices.
Fugue in A major by Dmitri Shostakovich is a very interesting piece as it contains no harmonic dissonance at all. The Fugue was an outlier in a larger collection of Preludes and Fugues which at the time was panned by critics for being very harsh and dissonant.
The piece was written in 1950’s Russia under Stalin's regime and might have been a veiled criticism where any less subtle forms of criticism could have been very dangerous. Shostakovich had already been denounced for political incorrectness in 1948 by the communist party chairman, Andrei Zhdanov and lived under a persistent fear of the numerous purges that were taking place across Russia at that time.
The piece is performed by Sviatoslav Ricther in 1956 in Prague.

ROW: Signals for Space from TUNDRA on Vimeo.
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s first human spaceflight with a special documentation of ROW audiovisual installation shot-in-one take using industrial robot, moved in sync with realtime generative content emphasising parallax effect of five individually controlled spinning led fans. In 2011 the UN declared April 12 as the “International Day of Human Space Flight” to remember the first human space flight and to promote the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes and to the benefit of humankind.
Through ROW: Signals for Space we interpret and shift the perception of dialog between signals source and its recipient and our ability to translate and interpret these signals.
We believe that multimedia art is a space for global synergy and exploration that can push humankind towards new discoveries and ways we interact with the space around us, within us and between us.
