Diabetes: Types, causes, and related disorders
When glucose in the bloodstream exceeds the permissible level, it results in high blood sugar. This high blood sugar leads to further complications like vision loss, disorders of the circulatory system, nervous system, and immune system. Diabetes impacts health in several ways, over time. Some of these are considered chronic and debilitating, while some of them can be cured.

Putting this in it's own post to not detract but like. There is no such thing as sugar addiction.
If you aren't eating carbs/sugars, your body craves those things because it needs them. Your body depends on sugar for energy, and if you aren't consuming enough you're going to crave it so that you eat and correct the deficiency, just like with anything else your body needs.
If you are eating carbs/sugars regularly, especially if it feels like you can never get enough of them and it feels like you're addicted, please get checked out for diabetes mellitus.
What diabetes mellitus boils down to is the body being unable to process sugar, either because it doesn't make insulin (type 1) or because it can't use the insulin it makes (type 2). Insulin is a hormone the body needs in order to use the sugar in your blood. This leads to high blood sugar levels, weight gain, being thirsty often/drinking a lot of water, and frequent urination, because the body can't get the sugar out of the bloodstream so either stores it as fat or gets rid of it in urine (and has you drink a lot of water to make that happen).
Diabetics don't crave sugar because they're addicts who can't get control of themselves, they crave sugar because their body desperately needs it but is struggling to use what they're giving it, because it's having issues with insulin.
Going in for a diabetes diagnosis can be scary and stressful, usually due to the stigma and fatphobia/fatshaming diabetes patients often have to deal with. A lot of people are uneducated about diabetes and see it as a punishment for eating unhealthily, and if you have or have had this view in the past it can be really upsetting and scary to think that you might be diabetic. Despite what the stigma may have led you to believe, diabetes is often in large part genetic, and people who are predisposed to it can have it triggered by anything from stress to covid to seemingly nothing at all. But even if you did cause your diabetes or make it worse by eating a lot of sugar/carbs, you deserve compassion and you deserve care, you deserve accurate information about how your body does/doesn't work, and you deserve treatment free from judgement and blame.
Diabetes is manageable, it is something you can live with. Diet and exercise can help, but in the long term even folks who've made lifestyle changes usually need medication, because lifestyle changes don't change the fact that your body is struggling to make/use insulin.
For something relatively common, diabetes isn't well understood by most people, and the actual symptoms of it are often overlooked because of that. Hunger even after eating, especially after eating carbs/sugar, and constantly craving carbs/sugars, was what led my doctor to assess me for diabetes, so if that's something you struggle with please consider looking into diabetes.
#sugar addiction#diabetes#diabetes mellitus#disclaimer I'm not a doctor and this is my understanding of things after talking to my doctors#didn't want to detract from the person complaining about people talking about having sugar addiction on their posts#about being an addict#but also as someone who has experienced strong urges to eat sugar/carbs no matter how much I ate#and later found out it was a symptom#I wanted to make this in case there are people who are unaware that an insatiable craving for carbs/sugar can be a symptom#there's also a lot more symptoms than what I put in here#like yes it's the struggles with blood sugar disorder but it also can include things like nerve damage causing vision loss and nerve pain#so if you might be diabetic it's important to at least research it even if you don't go to a doctor#due to things like the fact that nerve damage can mean you don't notice infections/issues with your feet until they're real bad#fun fact: having diabetes is one of the most common causes/contributing factors for foot amputations#it can also lead to cardiovascular issues#Diabetic ketoacidosis is also a thing#if I understand correctly it's when your body burns fat instead of sugar which releases acidic ketones into your bloodstream#but when there's too many ketones in your blood it gets too acidic which causes problems and can be deadly#as in I know someone who almost died from it because he didn't know that his being diabetic could lead to that#I know the stigma is awful and that people can be horrible about it but please take care of yourself if you are or might be diabetic

Help Jamal Shamia family
Jamal Shamia, Iam a criminal lawyer, lam suffering of many diseases hypertension and diabetic mellitus and Muscle spasms and always got shocked and coma .
Unfortunately, I was injured in the war and suffered a very serious injury, which was a blood clot in the hip joint area, which caused him many infections and the infection spread in the area. is currently in Gaza, and my home was destroyed at the beginning of the war. We have lost security and peace. We have witnessed how a single rocket can destroy your entire life, both your past and your future. Our dreams have been shattered. Now the future is unknown and dark. There is no home, no basic life essentials, no job. We are now seeking to leave this country for a life abroad and to obtain security. We estimate our loss to be at least $50,000 to rebuild a home and start our lives anew.
My wife, Mufida, is 62 years old. She traveled before the war to have surgery on her eye alone, and now she is stuck on the Egyptian side. She has no breadwinner and needs many medications and medical supplies.
After that, she suffered a broken hand due to the lack of necessary care for her. I want to collect money to go to her and support her.
Rasha Jamal Shamia and her husband, Khalil Abu Samaan, have two children, Mira and Omar. They have been forced to flee their home in Gaza City and are now living in a tent in Rafah, far from everything they once knew. Their home, their children’s education, and their future—everything is gone. Their days are filled with fear, and their nights bring no rest. The constant sound of bombs haunts them, and they have no way to provide their children with the life they deserve
Ahmad Jamal Shamia resides in Gaza and is a third-year student in dental school. He lost his education due to the devastating war in Gaza. He was studying at Al-Azhar University in Gaza, and his home was destroyed in the war. He is currently suffering from moving from one temporary shelter to another. Ahmad was a diligent, ambitious, and creative student who ranked first in his class. He didn't limit himself to what he learned in university. He attended courses and workshops online with Egyptian doctors to learn more and excel in his field. He always sought excellence and worked hard for it, and he loved helping all students. He now needs money to continue his education, which will cost him a lot of money since he will complete his studies in Egypt.

Type-2 Diabetes: Symptoms and causes
This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website, available here. In this huge population 95% peoples are suffering form the diabetes. In Type 2 diabetes mellitus, our body either doesn’t make enough amount of insulin, or the body’s cells don’t respond normally to the produced insulin.
Causes of Type 2 Diabetes
Insulin resistance is the main cause of type 2 diabetes. The body’s cells do not allow insulin to work the way it should by letting glucose into its cells. The cells become resistant to insulin. As a result, there is a rise in blood glucose levels. Now lets understand the symptoms of Type-2 diabetes.
Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes
Polyuria (frequent urination)
Polydipsia (excessive thirst)
Polyphagia (frequent hunger)
Weakness
Feeling tired
Blurred vision.
Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet (Neuropathy).
Slow-healing wounds or cuts.
Unexplained/unplanned weight loss.
Frequent infections.
Dryness of mouth.
There are chances that you may not have any symptoms of type 2 diabetes at all as this develops slowly over several years. An interesting fact is 50% of diabetics have no warning signs of diabetes. So be aware about this symptoms.
You have to know about, If blood glucose levels are not controlled in time, it lead to damage your body’s tissues and organs seriously. Some type 2 diabetes complications can be life-threatening over time too. So conuslt with your doctor accordingly.

Health impacts of obesity, death feedee edition
TW: this is dark and very real, do not read if you are not ready to understand the consequences of feedism. And I really mean it. It may be f* scary.
You know I study physiotherapy at med school. And Im also a feedee, feeder, FA... Which means that mine internships in hospitals are pretty heavy and hard for me. I see all the impacts of obesity, or even morbid obesity on people and their health. On their life.
We are all talking about heart-attacks. Sure, your arteries getting clugged, atherosclerosis growing in your body and getting you closer to an early grave. But atherosclerosis does not cause only heart-attacks. It would be nice, wouldn’t it? Feeling your heart struggling, pain in your chest (which you deserve for being the pig you were), and pretty soon there is the end. Death.
But atherosclerosis can also cause strokes. And I don’t think you want that. Part of your brain gonna die, part gonna live. It can affect your motor functions, your ability to feel by touch, your ability to know where and how placed your limbs are, your speech, of course your ability to think. You may die, sure. Or you gonna survive and live way way worse life fully dependant on people around you… Did you know that?
You also might ruin your pancreas. Im sure that many of you already have insulin tolerance way higher than you should. Well diabetes mellitus is incoming if you will not change your lifestyle. It does not only mean that you will need to take insulin! It will also damage your nerves. Neuropathies are very common. DM can lead even to amputations of legs. And also an impact on eyes is very well known, you can become blind. Over all diabetes is a metabolic disease and it has huge impact on your whole body – nerves, organs, veins, everything.
Another effect of our feedee diet - your liver become fattier making it work less. And liver are very important organ! Liver steatosis can become cirrhosis, the organ will be very damaged. Btw it also gonna increase your blood pressure which has significant impact on probability of heart-attacks and strokes. Another thing – there can appear stones in your gallbladder. That is mainly caused by eating too greasy and fatty food. And this also can be very painful situation needing a surgery.
It is proved that obesity increases the risk of cancer, especially cancer in gastro-intestinal tract and urogenitals. One more thing that people do not want.
Not to mention your musculo-sceletal system. Arthrosis in joints (another painful thing restricting your daily life), unfit and stiff muscles, bones easier to break by your weight if you fall… And it will not hurt only when you move. But also when you lie in your bed getting stuffed to the brim once again. Who of you have never ever had back pain, mainly lower-back pain? It is not comfortable, is it? And it only gonna get worse if you don’t exercise.
There are also impacts on your skin but i'm not good in this field so can't say much about it.
I know it is a lot of fun to be a feedee. To gain, get fatter, heavier, softer. Getting out of breath easily? Oh f* yes please, it makes you so horny. But there is a huge impact on your health. Im sure you know it. But maybe you don’t know all the specific things that may happen. This is just a brief list of health complications that obesity brings. So if you are a death feedee, go on! Eat yourself to these diseases if that’s what you want. But be aware that your life probably will not end by a sudden quick heart attack. You will suffer many months and years due to many comorbidities till your body will give up on you. Are you ready for that long pain?
Wanted to let you know so that I can feel better when I actually encourage you to gain. You know, consent means that you agree while being aware of the consequences. If you want me to help you get morbidly obese I wanna be sure I warned you. And maybe (hopefully) this gonna help someone to stop gaining so much if they find out that they would not be happy. Because babes – I don’t want you fat in the first place. I want you happy.
That’s the reason why im drinking 700 kcal hot chocolate made of heavy cream while writing this article. It makes me happy to gain. It makes me happy being fat even though I know all of these things. And it also scares the s*it out of me. I fear it so much. I want it so much. Im not a death feedee in real life, will not let the kink kill me (I hope). But I definitely am a death feedee in fantasies, deep inside and sometimes it is really hard to find the difference between having fun and ruining your body.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I warned you it gonna be dark and real 🖤
Enjoy your life as you wish 💕 Give fully into hedonism or enjoy the parts of feedism that don't kill you - that is your choice. Your body. Your life. Your death.

Writing Notes: Color Blindness
Color blindness, also called color vision deficiency (CVD), is a group of conditions that affect the perception of color, characterized by the inability to clearly distinguish different colors of the spectrum.
The difficulties range from mild to severe.
Color blindness is a misleading term because people with color blindness are not blind. Rather, they tend to see colors in a limited range of hues; a rare few may not see colors at all.
There is no treatment or cure, and cannot be prevented.
Most color vision deficient persons compensate well for their abnormality and usually rely on color cues and details that are not consciously evident to persons with typical color vision.
Risk Factors
A family history of color blindness increases the risk since most color vision problems are inherited.
Another risk factor for color vision deficiency is aging:
The eye’s lens can darken and yellow over time, which can impair the ability of older adults to see dark colors.
Certain medications can also increase risk:
For example, the drug hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, can cause color blindness.
Causes
Mutations in the CNGA3, CNGB3, GNAT2, OPN1LW, OPN1MW, and OPN1SW genes are known to cause color vision deficiency.
Color blindness is sometimes acquired.
Chronic illnesses that can lead to color blindness include Alzheimer disease, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, leukemia, liver disease, chronic alcoholism etc.
Some medications such as antibiotics, barbiturates, anti– tuberculosis drugs, high blood pressure medications, and several medications used to treat nervous disorders and psychological problems may cause color blindness.
Industrial or environmental chemicals such as carbon monoxide, carbon disulfide, fertilizers, styrene, and some containing lead can cause loss of color vision.
Occasionally, changes can occur in the affected person’s capacity to see colors after age 60.
Symptoms
The inability to correctly identify colors is the only sign of color blindness.
It is important to note that people with red/green or blue varieties of color blindness use other cues such as color saturation and object shape or location to distinguish colors. They can often distinguish red or green if they can visually compare the colors. However, most have difficulty accurately identifying colors without any other references.
Most people with any impairment in color vision learn colors, as do other young children. These individuals often reach adolescence before their visual deficiency is identified.

Diabetes - Now common!
Diabetes is one of the most common health problems nowadays. It is mostly due to the increasing poor lifestyle and health habits of people. We hear a lot of stories on diabetes, how people survive with it, and read articles on the causes and treatments. Sometimes, all these may leave you confused and with even more questions in your mind.
Diabetes is a life-long condition caused due to improper body metabolism. When you have food, sugar is converted to glucose and released into the blood. With the help of insulin produced from the pancreas, glucose is converted and transferred along the blood to the cells of the body to act as energy for carrying out various activities. But in case of a diabetic, insulin is not used properly. Hence the glucose levels remain elevated. This is harmful to the body.
In type 2 diabetes, though the pancreas produces insulin, either it is too little to enable cells to absorb insulin, or the cells themselves are resistant to insulin.
To control your glucose levels every day, do frequent self-testing with a home testing device known as 'glucometer'. This allows you observe your glucose levels. According to the readings obtained, you may modify your food, medicines, and actions.
To help provide some key information about diabetes here is a guide to some frequently asked questions.
Sadly, diabetes is a chronic condition; it is a life-long condition that as no cure. However, medications and proper diet will enable you to monitor your blood sugar levels and keep them at a minimum. A healthy lifestyle will also prevent further medical complications.
Generally, some telling symptoms of diabetes are: excessive thirst and urination, constant feeling of fatigue and hunger, sudden weight loss, slow healing of wound, recurring infection, and blurred vision.
People who have fat build up around the stomach may be at greater risk to diabetes, high blood, cholesterol, and heart disease.
When neglected, diabetes can cause major complications and long-term damage to certain organs such as the kidneys, nerves and the eyes.
Diabetics are definitely more prone to infections as white blood cells are impeded by too much sugar in the blood. White blood cells are responsible for fighting off infections in the body.
Eating sugary foods like cakes and chocolates will not cause diabetes. But it will aggravate a diabetic's existing condition.
The exact cause of diabetes may not be known, but there are links to genetic influence and most definitely poor health, lack of regular exercise, constant stress, and poor lifestyle habits are major factors that may lead to diabetes sooner or later.
Now that you have some basic idea on diabetes, start living healthy to prevent this disease.

Hello I hope you are having a nice day! I am planning on writing a haikyuu fanfiction where one of the characters has type 1 diabetes with celiac and epilepsy They are serious about pursuing volleyball professionally. and i was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. How would he need to adjust insulin levels for practices and games? How often should he check his blood? Would seizure medication affect sugar levels? If he ingests gluten how would that affect his sugar levels?
(haikyuu anon pt2) which insulin pumps/glucose meters were available in the late 2000s/early 2010s? Does pricking your fingers make them sore? Does injecting insulin into your gut make that area painful when pressure is put into it(when diving for the ball)? could the pump/monitor be placed on the body unlikely to be hit by the ball? Will seizures affect sugar levels and what to do then? Sorry for bombarding you with these questions. If anything else comes to mind please add to it! Thanks you
hi!!!
these are some wonderful questions, and i'm gonna throw a lot of info and resources at you! first, anecdotally, celiac and t1d are pretty commonly comorbidities (occuring together) bc they're both autoimmune diseases. i know a lot of people with both, including one of my best friends from when i was a kid. and i have an epileptic family member, so i'm just all around excited about your ask :D
How would he need to adjust insulin levels for practices and games? How often should he check his blood?
for t1d and sports, i recommend checking out this page on diathlete, which is all about managing blood sugar while doing (often very competetive) sports. (i am NOT a sporty person, but i DID do karate extensively for about fifteen years, and a lot of activity comes down to: checking bg often, keeping low bg supplies nearby in case, and having a lot of protein before activity to keep your blood sugar steady.
modern pumps normally have an activity mode built in, but before that, most people would manually reduce insulin before/during a game. not everyone has to do this tho.
(common snacks are PB and bananas, cheese and crackers, yogurt, etc. stuff with some carbs to go with the protein.)
(this got LONG, holy stars. putting everything from here on out under a cut)
Would seizure medication affect sugar levels? Will seizures affect sugar levels and what to do then?
for anit-epileptic meds, idk enough about them to say if they affect bg, unfortauntely. if you have specific meds in mind, i would look up common side effects on drugs.com (i promise that's a real, professional, non-shady site lol)
idk if seizures affect bg, actually! great question! i'll say that stress (such as, having a seizure) tends to make blood sugar go up. however, i'm tempted to think a tonic-clonic seizure (the kind with heavy shaking) could count as a form of activity? i'm not sure how to guide you here, unfortunately
some webpages talking about t1d with epilepsy:
If he ingests gluten how would that affect his sugar levels?
people with celiac who ingest gluten are going to experience severe inflammation, which is commonly known to increase blood sugar levels AND make a person temporarily more insulin resistant. high BG also causes more inflammation, so. feedback loop.
also, gluten is a carbohydrate, and if your character isn't used to eating it, will probably have trouble figuring out exactly how to bolus insulin for it. (even if they know the exact carb counts, different types of carbs take longer to digest and can require bolusing earlier or later than for other types of carbs.)
some links to resources talking celiac and t1d:
which insulin pumps/glucose meters were available in the late 2000s/early 2010s?
so i found this AWESOME page from the Wiley library from 2010 talking about the history of the insulin pump. def recommend reading through it, it's not that long and it's really cool. i also stole the following image from there, which answers your question.
animas went out of business or was discontinued a few years ago but was popular for a while before that. i have the omnipod, and have had the omnipod since 2006/2007, so if you have technical questions, feel free to throw them my way.
that's all you need for your question, if you're interested here are other sites talking about insulin pump and cgm hx, bc im a nerd:
as for glucometers, don't feel like you have to mention brand names. they all work basically the same way; turn on, insert strip, poke finger, hold bloody finger to appropriate edge of strip, yell a lot bc you didn't get enough blood or the meter timed out, and rinse repeat until everything is successful.
brand names from 2000s/2010s i can think of include: freestyle, one touch (my old beloved), accu-chek. the original omnipod handheld controler (the PDM) had a meter inside it, which was awesome.
Does pricking your fingers make them sore?
yes.
it doesn't always hurt, but, imagine poking yourself with a small, fast-moving needle. if you get just the right spot, you won't feel it. if you get the WRONG spot, g-d help you cause you'll feel it for days.
also, constant pricking creates scar tissue. i haven't really pricked my finger for about two years now unless my pump/cgm stops working, but i still have limited feeling in my fingertips. like, can tap hot pans to see how hot they are without causing pain. i don;t recommend this but i do it, so. don't be like me :'D
good news is the visible scars--little black spots--went away eventually!
Does injecting insulin into your gut make that area painful when pressure is put into it(when diving for the ball)?
it sure can!
bruises are common from injecting, pumps and cgm sites also cause bruises. like after you get a vaccine? some areas bruise worse than others, this differs person to person and site to site. but if someone can feel it, it's just like making contact with any other bruise.
could the pump/monitor be placed on the body unlikely to be hit by the ball?
general recommend placement sites are, for starters:
back of the upper arms
abdomen on either side of the belly button to the hip
thighs (front or side, some people also do back of thigh)
upper buttocks (the fattiest area)
lower back (where love handles show up)
ideally you want it placed in fattier areas. muscle is ok but moves a lot and can disturb the site. bony areas = 0/10, do not recommend. much pain.
people place sites basically anywhere bc scar tissue builds up and you run out of room eventually (rotating sites is very important bc it delays scar tissue forming!). some popular alternative, non-insurance-approved areas are:
the back of the forearm (i recommend shaving first, this hella hurt when i peeled off the adhesive and idk why it's so popular)
back of calf (i like this one)
shoulder blades (love this spot, but awkward to reach and awkward with bras)
and chest (have not personally tried)
which is the least likely to get smashed into by the ball, the ground, or another player? idk, i never played volleyball. back of the arm, probably? that, stomach, and thighs are typically the go-to for most people, i think, so you can't really go wrong there. it's good that you're thinking of it, bc it is a concern that athletes have to consider
there are also sleeves and extra adhesives available to help keep sites from ripping off or falling off. this website has a few different types so you can see wim.
omnipods are cool for sports bc they don't have any tubes to get tangled up or caught on something. other pumps all have thin tubes connecting the insulin reservoir and electronic parts to the actual site, and i have never understood how people manage to play sports and NOT get their tubed pump ripped off??? but lots of people don't have major problems with it ig.
lmk if you have any more questions! i love to talk about this stuff!
