Type-2 Diabetes: Symptoms and causes
This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website, available here. In this huge population 95% peoples are suffering form the diabetes. In Type 2 diabetes mellitus, our body either doesn’t make enough amount of insulin, or the body’s cells don’t respond normally to the produced insulin.
Causes of Type 2 Diabetes
Insulin resistance is the main cause of type 2 diabetes. The body’s cells do not allow insulin to work the way it should by letting glucose into its cells. The cells become resistant to insulin. As a result, there is a rise in blood glucose levels. Now lets understand the symptoms of Type-2 diabetes.
Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes
Polyuria (frequent urination)
Polydipsia (excessive thirst)
Polyphagia (frequent hunger)
Weakness
Feeling tired
Blurred vision.
Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet (Neuropathy).
Slow-healing wounds or cuts.
Unexplained/unplanned weight loss.
Frequent infections.
Dryness of mouth.
There are chances that you may not have any symptoms of type 2 diabetes at all as this develops slowly over several years. An interesting fact is 50% of diabetics have no warning signs of diabetes. So be aware about this symptoms.
You have to know about, If blood glucose levels are not controlled in time, it lead to damage your body’s tissues and organs seriously. Some type 2 diabetes complications can be life-threatening over time too. So conuslt with your doctor accordingly.

Understanding Different Types of Diabetes and Their Impact on the Body
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It disrupts the body's ability to regulate blood sugar (glucose) levels, leading to serious health complications if not managed properly. There are several types of diabetes, each with unique characteristics and impacts on the body. This article will explore the different types of diabetes, how they affect the body, and the tests provided by RML Pathology to diagnose and manage this condition.
1. Type 1 Diabetes
Description:
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This results in little to no insulin production, which is essential for regulating blood sugar levels.
Impact on the Body:
Requires lifelong insulin therapy.
Increases the risk of complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a potentially life-threatening condition.
Long-term complications include cardiovascular disease, kidney damage (nephropathy), nerve damage (neuropathy), and vision problems (retinopathy).
Can cause frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, weight loss, fatigue, and irritability.
2. Type 2 Diabetes
Description:
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. Lifestyle factors such as obesity, poor diet, and lack of exercise significantly contribute to its development.
Impact on the Body:
Often managed with lifestyle changes, oral medications, and sometimes insulin.
Can lead to complications like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems, and nerve damage.
Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, increased hunger, fatigue, blurred vision, slow-healing sores, and frequent infections.
3. Gestational Diabetes
Description:
Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy when the body cannot produce enough insulin to meet the increased needs. It usually resolves after childbirth but increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
Impact on the Body:
Can cause high blood pressure during pregnancy (preeclampsia).
Increases the risk of having a large baby, leading to complications during delivery.
May result in low blood sugar levels in the newborn and a higher risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes in the child later in life.
4. Prediabetes
Description:
Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. It is a critical stage for intervention to prevent the progression to type 2 diabetes.
Impact on the Body:
Often reversible with lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.
Increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
Symptoms are often absent or mild, making regular screening important.
Tests Provided by RML Pathology
RML Pathology offers a comprehensive range of tests to diagnose and manage diabetes effectively. These include:
Fasting Blood Glucose Test:

I always thought of diabetes as a thing you either Have or Don't but I looked into it a bit and man I was like extremely close to being diabetic before medication and literally follow the same treatment as type 2 diabetics (metformin and blood sugar monitoring). Hell if I had another blood test before starting the meds I may have been considered diabetic medically. Anyway I had the worst blood sugar crash of my Fucking Life tonight and had do the test it, drink orange juice, test again to be able to go to bed safely and it all just sucks. I don't want to deal with this happening for the rest of my life.
#It was 61 mg/dl which isn't like You're Gonna Die but is low for diabetics and almost too low for non diabetics#Didn't get any sleep last night so I was ignoring the symptoms chalking it up to that#But I had blurry vision was super pale and got extremely nauseous then threw up (Badly.)#I basically thought it was getting better walked to my bedroom from the bathroom and immediately threw up on all my stuff -_-#On the plus side this is like emetophobia exposure therapy. Sometimes something is so gross the panic doesn't even set in#It's just well. The worst possible scenario (vomit on my personal belongings and person and clothes) happened. Let's deal with it#Meanwhile if someone says their stomach hurts I start having an anxiety attack#Well anyway. Guys I don't want to deal with my body trying to kill me every 2 weeks forever.#It'd almost make me feel better if I could just say I'm diabetic because atp there's not a big difference between my life and a type 2#It's just that mine is theoretically reversible (and it's getting better with meds!! just slowly.)#but genuinely if i have to take diabetes meds forever to not be diabetic am i not just diabetic but well-controlled?? i have to ask my endo#I'm also feeling less leery about considering myself maybe disabled from all this cause like#it's manageable when it only happens at night but if this happened in public it'd be a nightmare#I would crash a fucking car if this happened while driving#Ugh. I wish glucose monitors were cheaper and I could just use one of those. Very hard to test your own blood when you're Fucking Dying

New blood test identifies health risks for children
Scientists said on Friday that a new blood test that analyses lipids could make it easier to identify children at risk of serious diseases, including type 2 diabetes, liver disease and heart disease, The Guardian reports.
Researchers from King’s College London said the test exploits the link between lipids and diseases affecting metabolism in children and could serve as an early warning system for potentially life-threatening illnesses.
Using machines to analyse blood plasma from babies, which are already available in hospitals, doctors would be able to detect early signs of disease in children more quickly and help treat them, the researchers said.
The study’s lead author, Dr. Cristina Legido-Quigley, said:
For decades, scientists have relied on a classification system for lipids that have split them into good and bad cholesterol, but now with a simple blood test we can assess a much broader range of lipid molecules that could serve as vital early warning signs for illness.
The development had significant implications, Legido-Quigley, a group leader in systems medicine at King’s and head of systems medicine at the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, said. She also added:
In the future, this has the potential to be an entirely new way to evaluate someone’s personal risk of disease and by studying how to change lipid molecules in the body, we could even prevent metabolic diseases like diabetes altogether.
The findings were published in the journal Nature Medicine.
Holbaek model
The findings refute the idea that cholesterol is the main cause of obesity-related complications in children and identify new lipid molecules that contribute to health risks such as blood pressure, but do not only correlate with a child’s weight.
Traditionally, lipids were thought to be the fatty acids in the body, the good or bad types of cholesterol or triglycerides. But now scientists believe the picture is more complex. Using a mass spectrometry technique, they found that the types of different lipids present in the body number in the thousands, and each performs distinct functions.
Using a control sample of 1,300 obese children, the research team determined their blood lipid levels. Then 200 of them were enrolled for a year in the Holbaek model, a popular lifestyle intervention programme for obese people in Denmark.
Subsequent results showed that the amount of lipids associated with diabetes risk, insulin resistance and blood pressure decreased in the intervention group, despite a slight improvement in body mass index.
The researchers’ next step is to help understand how genetics affects lipids and what this means for metabolic diseases, as well as how these lipids can be altered to improve health.

How Genetics Affects Type 2 Diabetes?
This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website , available here. You want to know, is type-2 diabetes is genetic or not? The answer is yes. But it is depend upon some factors. It is something in your environment that actually triggers it. For proof, we can look at identical twins. They have identical genes. Yet if one twin gets type 2 diabetes, the other twin's risk is three in four at most. Lets understand genetic diabetes symptoms?
Frequent need to visit the washroom.
Increase in appetite
Fatigue
Lack of clarity in vision
Repeated infections
healing wounds
Now the question is type 2 diabetes genetic, can it be reversed or not. To know it please click here. If you found this blog useful, please recommend it and share it with others!

the finger pokes don't faze me anymore at all but the big pokes....and they can never find a vein either and it bruises so bad. the phlebotomist last time just kept asking me to confirm who i was, when it was and if i was okay. i think she thought i was gonna pass out. ngl i kinda felt like it but i thought i was keeping it together lol
this is my like fourth or fifth blood test this year too even though my a1c, fasting bg, cholesterol, triglycerides etc are all good. idk what my doctor's looking for but i hope he finds it this time bc i am not doing this shit again until next year.
but i am going to be so so brave and then im going to drive to the new panera that's opening across the street from my college and get a wheat bagel with avocado spread and a free sip club membership promo (if i can be in the first 100 people) so i can get a hazelnut coffe and do homework in there when its cold between classes 🥹
#i mean my wbc count was vv slightly elevated last time but idk if it warrants testing again so soon it could just be stress#college students go through that ya know#and the copay is a bitch since i exceeded the limit on how many labs they'll cover in a certain period#anyway im just cranky cause i have to get stabbed again i'll shut up and let him do his job#type 2 diabetes#t2d life#health shit#tw needles#tw blood
