So I binged Castaway Diva yesterday and I had a few thoughts. Honestly, the first time I started Castaway Diva, I almost stopped when they introduced a love triangle. Because let's be honest; love triangles suck. But I thought of giving it a shot after seeing the trajectory the love triangle trope was taking in Korean movies and series, as seen in hometown cha cha cha, 20th century girl, Daily dose of sunshine, crash course in romance and etc. And needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. The drama is beautiful and heartwarming and heart touching and I especially loved the way they resolved the love triangle. Clear and open communication. And the realisation of the importance and worth of platonic relationships.

For too long, we have seen platonic relationships relegated to the place of a consolation prize. Something you get when you don't get the girl. But platonic relationships are beautiful and worthy of the same amount of love and commitment that romantic relationships have and it's about time that series and movies realise that and follow that instead of just throwing the second lead in the shadows. I hope the next trajectory will let us see some polyamory.

pls stop the unnecessary love triangle for god's sake. i mean, how can i fully enjoyed the romantic moments between mokha-bogeol when they KEEP cut the scene to our broken hearted woohak?? every. fucking. time. once or second time is enough to told us about the situation. alright, we get it. and we don't like it (me, actually, but i'm gonna pretend everyone agreed). the kang brothers already have a great dynamic though... why trying to ruin it.... give them both their own love interest and happy ending.

modded my 3ds and idk WHAT it is about me and technology but i flllowed this tutorial step by step exactly and got some unsolvable error that literally nobody else on the internrt has. i even completely started from the top (except the part thats on the ds internal mem, so i fear thats the issue but unfortunately i will not be uninstalling my cfw bc. knowing me. my ds will get bricked and nintendo will burn my house down with me inside) and im still getting the fucking error 😭 whatever tho i havent had it close me out of a game yet so its ok i think but stil like. ohhh my god!!! what the fuck did i do!!!!!!!! everyone who has ahad this same issue has a list of resolutions and NONE OF THEM FIXED ITTTTTTTTTTTR I DONT UNDERSTAND i seriously. always manage to make a mistake no human has ever made before anytime i try to do literally anything 😭 this is why i gave up on informatics i dont have the brain for this shit im too stoopid

OK, as I said, I didn't read the synopses/description.

But I just checked it out after watching the first episodes and lo and behold what are the genres in a drama website:

Comedy, Life, Musical, Romance

First episode with 2 kids being beaten by their fathers within an inch of their lives, one risks death to help the other, the other risks death by drowning jumping out of a ferry instead of going back to her abusive home...

This might have been misgendered...just a bit.

PS: If the both of them had ended up stranded together it would have been Blue Lagoon but with teens who actually had at least some sex ed knowledge. Between Overboard and Blue Lagoon my mind sure is going to older movies.

Going in blind watching a new drama be like (first episode spoilers for Castaway Diva)

Both @kdramastuff and @msisoverthegardenwall recomended this drama to me, so I gave it a try, but I didn't read a synopsis so I went in blind and boy oh boy was it entirely unexpected.

The vibes I got:

*Cutesy poster of a woman playing the guitar with hippie staging

* Word Diva in the title

Brain thinks:

"Oh, romcom about a former star who falls from a yacht (the title also gives me rich Goldie Hawn vibes - like the movie Overboard)"

Also, her name sounds like the Portuguese word for getting stoned and the hippie vibes of the poster aren't helping.

The plot:

2 highschool kids who are beaten almost to death daily by their fathers.

One reports it, the cop father of the other shows up and forces her to take back the complaint and even apologize.

Both kids try to escape, from an island on a ferry bc the abuse is so bad they think they will end up dead soon if they don't run away.

Boy sacrifices himself to stop girls father from getting to her, clearly ready to be beaten to death in the process (and almost is) so at least one of them can live. Turns out his sacrifice is in vain.

Abuser father finds girl, she'd rather throw herself overboard (ha, my witch side DID sense the Goldie Hawn connection...witchy sense continues to work in mysterious ways) and probably die than go back.

Conclusion:

Both teen actors deserve all the awards. Damn!

I'm hooked but boy did I go blind into this expecting something else entirely.

I've been seeing myself rant and be angry far too often for my liking recently. I gotta tone it down by a lot and tackle the insecurity part of it.

When I started out this blog, Looker x Anabel was for certain a rarepair. Not sure what you'd call it now since I've given it so much love and art, but there are times when I swirling thoughts of insecurity. Nothing more than just pesky pests, but maybe just enough flying around to cloud my vision so I don't see the forest for the trees.

I think I just feel like my works, and perhaps by extension myself, the sort of odd one out. My artwork starting this blog out wasn't quite as polished as my preference for my modern work and I felt jealous of some other people in the Pokemon Interpol fandom pumping out gorgeous pieces. Stuff with great anatomy and great style. When I focus on that, I struggle to accept my own style, my own handle on human anatomy, my own grasp on color and background and why can't these people look as good as this person's work?

It's all internal, when I truly abstract it. I feel bad for once or twice I've seen my OTP or art referred to as 'boring' or 'annoyingly everywhere' or 'forced het garbage.' It does upset me so much that something that can bring me intense joy and comfort can the complete opposite for someone else, and that my actions could make someone else upset. I don't think anyone does but we have to live with it right? Fuck I'm actually crying as I type this.

Sometimes I can't help but feel lonely in the fandom. Like I'm just "that one person who ships these two for some reason," when they much rather see the characters with someone else or some other characters drawn or just anything else. I get lost in my thoughts questioning if my own tastes and passions aren't good enough, when they're just mine and that's all they're supposed to be. That my art is too flat compared to this person, too unfinished, too empty.

It's funny to think that I got attached to a ship of effectively two castaways. Two people with a very rare and hard to ever understand backstory-- torn from their homes, their home dimensions, having floated through space.

And all they ever wanted was a friend who knew how they felt when it seemed like the world didn't understand. Someone to rely on when everything hurts, when you feel like you lost yourself.

It's important to me. And when it is perverted or misunderstood or written off as something I do not stand for ... I guess it hurts. I guess it just hurts, just like everyone else.

addendum: it is probably a very personal thing for me that it's not just shipwise but i always felt like i was the odd one out growing up. i had niche interests, a lot of kids thought i was weird, I didn't fit in with girls and i didn't quite fit in with boys, such and such. i guess it manifests into my passions and it builds over time when i feel like i am just kinda alone.

I've been thinking about the tragic parallel of shen jiu (SVSSS) and yut-lung (BF) that have made me tear up and shake from anger because they wanted to be so much more than they were labeled. SJ was a street rat that rose from the actual dirt to become an immortal master, and yut-lung was a castaway son from his family and always seen and used as a political pawn.

Both of these characters are fighting to reach the top of their food chain so they would never be looked down again but they only got hate, from the fandom, from the characters around them. SJ hated BH for having something he's always wanted someone who would love him till the end, in his perspective, his qi-ge left him and wants to bury his beggar past. Yut-lung hated Eiji for providing Ash hope for a person who could love a broken person wholeheartedly and won't ask for anything in return, he saw Ash as his mirror needed to fight him as a rival in a dark lonely world and he thought Ash would understand their fight.

Both of these characters feel like they've only gone from one fight to another. SJ is always on bad terms with the rest of Cang Qiong peaks, making sure everyone around him is a bad mood, yut-lung is always instigating fights because he feels like his anger is only fuel and reason to live now that he's taken revenge for his mother.

Both of these characters tragically follow the same shadow of abuse they suffered and don't feel like they can get out of and therefore need people to suffer with them. It's a horrible cycle and mentality to have. They are both so angry and hurt and need some serious therapy! 😭 I love these characters so much and I could rant on and on about them bc I love to analyze them, they're complex characters who have had bad stuff done to them and have inflicted horrible things back to the people around them, they're not good people but they're not evil just for fun either.

So, I decided to do a little something-something to motivate myself to create art and/or write. Part of this something-something also happens to involve my favorite X-Men: Evolution ship of all time 😚.

Okay no, I don’t buy for one second that Mok-ha would do that. She felt so bad about eating the seagulls eggs that it was eating her up - but willing to give up the one person she’s lived for? The family that took her in?

There’s got to be a different reason. She’s fought to do things her own way this whole show, and this is not her.

And Ran-joo? I liked her character a lot at first, but I think they’re trying to do too much here. Just what does she want? She gives so many mixed signals at this point anyone would have gotten lost trying to figure her out.

I really hope they do that thing where they go back and show the real reason for why they’re doing it - but I’m afraid that this time, it’s not gonna happen.

And I’m not sure I can forgive this that easily… we’ll see.

Permission to rant about Gillian's Island to me

I've watched only a few episodes with my sister

(Obligatory disclaimer that this is all probably filtered through nostalgia, but I stand by my opinion that GI is a very underrated classic.) I love it SO MUCH. It's SO SILLY but also the castaways are such a great found family. The characters are all so fun that I really can't pick a favorite and the actors are perfect and click so well. There are, of course, parts that haven't aged well, and some of the characterization can go off in some episodes because they didn't care about continuity back then. BUT when it's good it just brings me so much joy.

Pikmin au fic

Ummm I got a fic it’s a what if sort of thing.

Title TBD

This wasn't what he signed up for when the rescue alarm went off, this wasn't what he signed up for as a mysterious force caused the ship to waver, this is not what he signed up for when both he and Bernard landed on the planet.

What he especially didn't sign up for was a ‘dandori battle’.

Right now Dingo was face to face with a strange creature, they had red fur covering their face and had a stem with a leaf poking from their head, by their side was a rescue dog with a coat colour he had never seen before and a leaf for a tail, its beady eyes staring into his soul before the creature did a whistle.

Dingo could only watch in horror as the dog dragged Bernard to the middle of the strange tripod bulb, he could only watch as the pilot was sucked into it and after a second or two Bernard was spat out by the thing, except he had changed, there was purple coloured fur on him.

“What did you do to him!’ Dingo demanded, his fists clenched and fighting back the urge to run away from this horror show.

“To survive this planet, one must embrace Dandori…prove to me you have the skill to save this castaway.” The red furred creature spoke and much to Dingo’s surprise, with a deep voice that sounded weary and tired. 

To hell with that! The creature turned Bernard into…something! He needed to save him right now not with whatever the creature was planning! Dingo quickly dashed across the arena, dodging monsters that came out of a fever dream (most likely Yonny’s knowing the doctor) and was about to introduce the creature to his fist when he was knocked over by the dog.

“You do not wish to follow what I have set for you, I am sorry it had to come to this.” The creature said, he pressed a button on Dingo’s suit and whistled.

Dingo could feel his body grow lax as the emergency statis activated, the last thing he saw before everything turned dark was the eyes, so many eyes staring at him and the last thing he felt was pain on the top of his head.

Dingo opened his eyes and groaned. There was a throbbing pain in his head and light chitters echoing in his ears, Dingo took a deep breath and weakly stood up, next to him was a purple furred creature fast asleep, the leaf on the top of their head glowing softly. Dingo tentatively reached his hand out and touched it. It was not fur like he guessed it to be but leaves, now when he thought about it the creature that he encountered earlier had a similar look.

The creature jolted up, their eyes seemingly glowing with the glare one would get when wearing shades in the sun.

Shades…

“Bernard is that you?!” Dingo cried out, he stood the pilot up and looked up and down while the mental chittering grew louder and louder.

“D-d-d-d-d-d-d…Dandori…I want to do DANDORI. Forever…and ever…until the END.”

Leaves and dandori obsession be damned that way of talking tipped Dingo off, Bernard happily walked off to the nearest cave entrance while whistling a little ditty that only he would know. Dingo ran after him. “Wait! What about finding the rescue corp? The mission?”

“Does THAT do good dandori…or not?” Bernard asked and looked up at the skies of the strange planet they found themselves on without a care of why he was here or what had happened to him

“Just what was with this Dandori obsession anyway?! This is absurd Bernard, we should find a way to help you and–” Dingo started to rant before he caught a glimpse of himself in the water.

There was someone else in the place of his reflection, someone with his headband and hair color, the mental chittering was starting to drown his own thoughts as Dingo knelt by the water and took a long look at the reflection.

There was a person whose face was covered in light red leaves and a stem poking from his head.

Dingo buckled down at the shock as the chorus of chittering grew clear to him.

“DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI DANDORI.” Was all he could hear.

Pal world info dump: the Ryne Syndicate

This is just a rant about pal world since I wasn’t sure where else to do it. This is mostly just my ideas and speculations on what’s really going with the lore. If you have any ideas feel free to comment them since I’d love to see if anyone else has thoughts on the lore of pal world.

I want to start with the factions since they have the most lore and I can’t really talk about any faction without talking the main character of each one, the leader. Zoe lost both of her parents in ways that aren’t fully clear and her first journal isn’t super clear on it either. “My father disappeared a long time ago, and I’ve never seen my mother’s face.” I don’t have any guesses on what happened to her mom, but she does mention her father being their last boss. I have a feeling it has something to do with the towers we see around the map. I think that when any one of the tower bosses goes into their tower, they are stuck forever, or at least until they die. There aren’t too many times when the tower bosses mention how they feel about being in their tower but Zoe is probably the best we got to seeing what it’s like. In her final entry, she talks about how she doesn’t understand why she’s defending the tower or why she’s even there. It’s apparently just a tradition to pass it down through their family to keep some great power at bay. What is this power? No one knows yet. I feel like it has something to do with the giant tree in the far north side of the islands.

Not a lot is exactly known about the tree and it’s only ever acknowledged once in one of the castaway’s journals. I think it will help answer a lot of questions since at the start of the game it says “the towers are the key, the tree holds the truth.” This is what I want answered the most. What really is the truth? I’ll save that for another rant. For now, back to Zoe. She’s been around the syndicate her whole life. That’s how she got Grizzbolt after they escaped together then eventually came back only to be attacked by the syndicate. She also doesn’t seem to know too much about the Free Pal Alliance. She mentioned talking about it to one of the grunts but they only told her their rivalry has lasted for years that it’s too late to make amends. Even with that, she doesn’t say any more or try to learn more. Then there’s a large time skip to her final entries. She only talks about how she doesn’t understand why she’s protecting the tower and she wants to see the outside world after seeing so many outsiders drift onto the island.

It would also be super interesting to see if the outside world in palworld is the same as ours. I kinda think so since the castaway mentioned cats, sheep, and birds in his fifth entry. I’m not sure if that’s a stretch but it’s all the evidence I got for it so idk.
