hello! recently ive had an obsession with drinks, and almost each night ive been making one, ranging from chai latte to orange julius, to milkshakes. but ive been running out - do you happen to have any recipes? nonalcoholic would be preferable, and names are just fine too unless it’s not a wide spread concoction. thank you!!!
How about instead of a recipe, I give you some less-used ingredients and you can DIY some combinations?
Red Bell Pepper Juice! You can sometimes buy it at specialty stores, or you can blend/crush/mash some red bell peppers and strain the juice out yourself. I really like it combined with simple syrup and lime juice for a rich mocktail.
You can also use other vegetable juices in fun little drinks. Carrot juice can be surprisingly sweet. Sugar Beets are named that for a reason. There's a lot of folks down here in the south who just drink sweetcorn juice.
You can get a deeper, smokier flavor by braising your veggies until they char a little, before juicing them.
Seedlip Spice 94, for an herbal, conifer-like flavor. I love this paired with lavender syrup, in any clear soda. It tastes like summer!
Coconut Cream (not coconut water! It's different!) Can be used as a base instead of ice cream, with frozen mango for an ultra-creamy, richly flavored frozen drink. The ratios here will be different, so use your own judgement.
Consider going to a foreign food market, and buying like... random canned fruit you've never heard of. Using lychee syrup is delicious. You can also look around for fruits and drinks you've never tried. There's a whole world out there of packaged drink powders!
Gochujang sweetened with honey and lime, cut with ginger beer is... an experience. Get the ratios right, and it's addictive.
Think about muddling herbs/fruits into your clear soda, which aren't just 'mint and cucumber' - Basil and lime. Dill and apple. Blackberry and Anise.
Had muddled basil and simple syrup in some iced coffee recently. It was intriguing. Good? Not sure, but it compelled me.
Be adventurous and you'll never run out of new flavor combinations to try~

should be sleeping but I’ve got too many HCs for these characters so pls have some food related ones~
Leon
has a broad palette and will try anything once - has definitely eaten all manner of insects, arachnids, and offal, and been alright with most of them
always tries the local cuisine if he has time on missions, considers it one of the perks of the job
kinda lactose intolerant but he ignores it (don’t we all)
like he'll eat an ice cream and be fine but he should stay away from milkshakes
loves oreos (thanks Nick) and chocolate covered liquorice
comfort food: lasagna (something his mother used to cook. he could never get the recipe right)
also sweet breakfast foods. loves pancakes and waffles and french toast and croissants and—
certified tea hater. doesn’t see the point, it tastes weak and weird to him (Sherry probably tries to find a tea he likes, he always takes a sip to try it but nothing more)
his diet directly correlates to his mental health - his appetite just vanishes
he also generally forgets to eat a lot
at his worst, he’s ingesting nothing but power bars and espresso and maybe a banana
starts to cook properly again after Vendetta, and it becomes a hobby
had many mishaps in this time period (ruined more than one pot by accident) but he enjoys it
buy him cultural/ethnic cookbooks, he’d be thrilled
Chris
diet is consistent and generally well rounded. doesn’t really snack.
probably eats too much meat though, he needs some soup or a salad or smth
loves a good BBQ but is actually kinda bad at grilling (refuses to acknowledge this)
sweet flavoured popcorn (particularly caramel) is his guilty pleasure, he’ll devour a whole packet in 2 seconds flat
can cook pretty well and finds a sense of peace in doing so
HATES grocery shopping though
tends to eat the same meals over and over bc they’re easy/habitual, especially when he’s stressed
has a huge breakfast - scrambled eggs, avocado toast, cooked mushrooms, a small bowl of oatmeal and yoghurt, a large coffee or glass of orange juice (lucky the BSAA has a mess hall that cooks for him lmao)
will absolutely fall asleep if he gets too full. total food coma
keeps a bag of gummies on him during missions for his team, if their blood sugar gets low (usually Piers)
(alpha team defs try to fake it so they can have a snack)
eats bananas like they’re going extinct, just grabs one when he goes out the door. they’re perfect snacks to him
he’ll also just walk around eating a whole carrot. probably not in public but like, I wouldn’t put it past him
Piers
is as responsible in his diet as he is in everything, but he’s not overly restrictive
he loves a good routine and he eats in the same way, having the same meals every day for a month or two before he switches it up
goes out to eat often enough that he gets his variety that way
he loves cereal. he'll eat it any time of day and in any weather
really likes seafood, the fresher the better - not as much as steaks tho, obviously
WILL criticise how you cook steak until you do it the “right” way
eats fruit salads and veggie sticks for snacks (and genuinely enjoys them, the freak (affectionate))
really likes ice cream though. total comfort food
also hot chocolate
he’s a sucker for a mocha
at complete odds to his usual diet, he’s a complete garbage monster in the adrenaline drop after a mission
get this man some carbs NOW
will devour whatever is in front of him so long as its hot and there’s lots of it
takes hangry to a new level, good lord
it’s something of an inside joke (and a genuine warning) to never raise problems to Piers until after he’s eaten a meal
#idk they’re just on my mind a lot yk#anyway this is based on nothing but vibes so don’t take it serious lol#rottalks

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #282
Today started out normally. But it ended kind of weird.
J made a bunch of rice not too long ago. Like… a bunch of rice. And on the day we went to the reptile and arthropod expo, we also went to the local food co-op on the way home, because J was hungry. Not being one to pass up opportunities, I decided to snag some natto while I was there. But there were three different kinds, and I couldn't choose, and so in my typical style, I decided "fuck it" and got all three…
...Here's what the contents look like:
...Hey, Sephiroth? Do you like natto? I've heard that it's a very polarizing food; in my part of the world, people usually either really hate it or love it a lot, with very little in between, or so I've heard. I wonder what you think...
Normally, in my part of the world, one gets natto by going to the frozen foods section of the Asian grocery store, if there is one. I live in a place that's pretty diverse (and it's AWESOME), so we have Asian grocery stores, Middle Eastern grocery stores, and Hispanic grocery stores, too. We might have more, but... maybe I didn't find them yet. My city isn't as diversified as New York City, but it's still pretty good. Pretty good...
Well anyway. I don't really like the frozen natto by itself; it's really good mixed with rice, for sure!! But this stuff that comes in these jars... I could just eat it with a spoon. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that it hasn't been frozen first. I wouldn't know. Maybe someday, I should go to Japan and see what natto is like over there; I imagine it's oodles better than whatever we have over where I live!
Anyway, we had a bunch of rice, and we had bacon, because I got some from the local convenience store chain on my way home from therapy on Tuesday; M had left the car in a state with low tire pressure and low gas, so I figured the thing to do was to take care of it before coming home, and the convenience store chain called Stewart's (unique to my region!) has gasoline and free air, and also snacks.
So... after doing the whole "responsible adult thing", I decided I get to have snacks. And I went inside the Stewart's, but nothing appealed to me, so I just got a Birthday Cake Shake for M and a chocolate milkshake for J; Stewart's sells these in bottles, and they're really good! And then I saw the bacon, and since we already had rice, eggs, and natto, I decided to get it! And today, I had enough time and energy to prepare it! So that's what I did!
I like to bake bacon in the oven; it's super convenient that way, and you don't get grease splattering everywhere, and it's easy to get it to cook evenly that way. It's just a matter of arranging it on a baking sheet with some parchment paper...
...You stick it in an oven at 400 degrees F (or 204.4 degrees C) for about 25 minutes, depending on how crispy you like it.
Here's how it turned out!
...And if you're wondering what I did with all that rendered fat? Of course, I put it in a jar!
...I used some of it to cook eggs with nice, runny yolks::
...I also used some to fry up some leftover rice, with all three of the different kinds of natto mixed in:
...The result was an epic bowl of deliciousness! Want some...?
...I spent most of the rest of the day playing Dead Cells. I managed to defeat The Hand of the King in the training room with only 4 Brutality, 4 Tactics, and 22 Survival, for 8 points less than the recommended total; my damage multiplier was less than half of what it should have been, while using a play style that is not well-suited for him, and I smashed him up anyways. If I reach him in one of my next runs, he's gonna be in BIG trouble, lemme tell ya!!
I also made chicken leg quarters today - y'know, the same recipe that I've shown you at least twice before. It's a classic for a reason, haha! I was able to serve it up with some leftover broccoli and carrots that J cooked up the other day, as well as the mashed pumpkin I made yesterday. It was good stuff!!! But I didn't think to take any pictures for you; I'm sorry about that.
And here's where it gets weird.
So... M, and J, and I were supposed to go see that Wild Robot movie today, at 7:10. But when we got to the door of the building, there was a pigeon chilling out there, on the ground. It's weird to see pigeons on the ground this late at night. And it wasn't very mobile; it looked kinda haggard, and it seemed sluggish.
...Well. If you've been reading my letters up until this point, you already know where this is going. You already know that I couldn't just leave it there like that. So I didn't. Needless to say, we ended up not seeing the movie in favor of prioritizing the safety of the pigeon.
The nearby animal hospital is closed this late at night, though. We decided to put it in the upstairs bathroom so that it can have space to move, without any risk of our cats getting to it. We put it in the bathtub with a towel for some soft bedding; we expect that it'll poop, and a towel and a bathtub are easy to clean:
...I think it has some kind of respiratory illness. When I tried to reach out to pet it, it made a weird squeaking wheeze; that's not a normal sound for a pigeon.
We're going to bring it to the nearby animal hospital first thing in the morning; they open at 7:30am. They treat wild creatures. Pigeons are technically not wild; they are feral. They used to be human companions before they were discarded as though they are worthless. Nowadays, despite the fact that they used to be friends to humans, they are treated like filthy, disgusting nuisances; it's not fair. I guess I have a bit of a soft spot for them as a result.
...They deserved so much better than this...
And before you ask - yes, we know better than to give it any food or water; we don't know what's wrong with it, and the last thing we need is to give it things to put into its stomach, only to have it choke on its own vomit or something later. No harm will come to it if it goes to bed without dinner; don't worry.
...I just hope that whatever it's sick with is curable, and that it's not on its last legs. But it being on its last legs seems unlikely; it's still cognizant enough to recognize me as a threat, even if it was too weak to get away. That's probably a good sign. We dimmed the lights in the bathroom and closed the door; it's someplace quiet, safe, and warm. Even if it passes away in the night, it'll still be better than passing away on cold, hard pavement on a chilly autumn evening.
...Incidentally, this will be the third sick pigeon I've pulled off the streets of my city. One of them recovered after being sent to the animal hospital. The other one was sick with some kind of digestive system issue; that one didn't make it even after we sent it to the animal hospital, but at least it didn't have to spend its final moments on the pavement in the cold, snowy December air - back when Decembers in my region used to actually be properly cold.
I'm really glad that M and J don't get upset with me for the fact that I can't do nothing when I see something in trouble. I've had partners in the past who would roll their eyes at me and scold me for caring. The people I was raised by were the sorts of people who would roll their eyes at me and scold me for caring. I can still almost hear them: "It's just a stupid fucking pigeon; you're gonna make us miss a movie for a stupid fucking pigeon?" Or else call me gross for being willing to wrap a "dirty" animal in my cardigan. and try to keep it safe.
...But you know. This sort of thing, besides how great they are at maintaining a comfortable temperature for my body and keeping my pasty white ass safe from the sun, is exactly why I wear them. Like your long coat, it's a utility item. It becomes a backpack, a towel, a pillow, a wrap, and whatever else I can think of in a pinch.
...Anyway, I'm really glad that I'm not around people who will scold me for having basic empathy anymore. We can see the movie tomorrow.
...Well. If we're gonna get to the animal hospital right as it opens, I need to be up early - to the tune of 6:30am. It's already almost 9; I had better get ready for bed. Maybe if I still have a few moments after my CPAP is washed and my teeth are brushed, I'll play a little more Dead Cells.
I'll leave this here just in case:
twitch_live
I love you. So please do stay safe out there, okay? Please come back home to us in one piece. Both your world and my world need you.
I'll write again tomorrow.

What’s your favourite food?
Mr. Needlemouse: I- I'm back! Phew. Sorry, folks. Had to sketch myself a new body part after Miss Basketball Fanatic cooked it.
Nitro: We really did try to warn you that Cindy means business, dude.
Mr. NM: You didn't tell me she'd be wielding a gun full of cartoon-harming chemicals!
Pana: Welp, better luck next time, mate. Ah, yeah! While you were out, Ben and Blu showed up here.
BluBuni: Hi there!
OMT!Tails: Glad you could make it for this next question! Though, you guys aren't part of our group, so how come you showed up in our part of the Q&A?
Benjamin: Ah, right. I heard the current question didn't get labelled, so I felt it'd be a good pick for us to join in for this one.
OMT!Tails: Heh, very well, then.
OMT!Mina: Right, let's see... @btnfstudios asks "What's your favourite food?"
CR!Sonic: Heh, now that's a good one!
Mr. NM: Ah, finally! A question that's not at my expense! Well, as you can tell, I absolutely crave chilli dogs!
CU!Sonic: I figure it'd be the same for all us Sonics in the room.
Mini Sonic: Yep. CR!Sonic: I suppose so.
Pana: Ah, bummer. I'd say I'm more partial to a fresh cheese-and-ham toastie. It absolutely pays off getting the right heat to melt all that cheese, heh.
OMT!Mina: Heh, yeah. Pana taught me how to make some during the times I've stayed over at his world.
OMT!Tails: Well, I'm sure you guys know what I'm fond of, right?
EX!Alice: Mints?
OMT!Tails: Ah, no no no! That's something I have on rare occasions. I actually really love having grapes!
BK!Amy: Ah, so like Knuckles, right? Sweet!
OMT!Tails: Hehe, yeah. It rubbed off on me there.
Nitro: Heh, choc-chip cookies are my absolute favourite! It's always a fun snack before meals.
Smol Devy: Yep! April: Hehe, yep! Of course, my favourite food is absolutely burgers! ^w^
BK!Amy: Hehe, that's lovely, April! Of course, strawberry shortcake remains my favourite dessert!
Nine: You know, I've been starting to get fond of it as well. Thanks for letting me be a taste-tester, Amy.
BK!Amy: You're most welcome!
Benjamin: Well, I've loved having donuts and bananas as my favourite snack between meals! Me and Blu often go to a donut stall in town to get some.
BluBuni: We sure do! In terms of food I'm not so fond of, it's definitely carrots. I've never really been a huge fan, though I don't really publicly state that, so I'm polite about it and ask for alternatives if guys like Bugs are doing waiting.
EX!Alice: Good thought there, Blu. I'm a big fan of pasta-based meals myself, especially if meatballs are thrown in there.
D-Sides Mighty: You know, I'd say I'm a fan of regular hot dogs. Putting ketchup on there really livens the taste!
Kinoko: I mean, me? A Meat-eor Burger and a Milky Way Milkshake are my go-to after a hard day exploring the galaxy!
Trip: And as for me, I've started getting into having strawberries as a light snack. When I'm away from my friends, it always reminds me of my Amy and how sweet she was when we first met back at the water temple.
CR!Sonic: Heh, I mean, orange you glad I held back on arguing with that? I'm glad you've got a tie to your old home there, Trip.
Trip: Aww, thank you.
CU!Sonia: You know, dad got me into chilli dogs pretty quickly during my youth!
CR!Sonia: Heh, same! You see, other Sonia? This is why you and me are awesome girls!
CU!Sonia: Hehe, shucks!
CR!Manik: You know, me, Sonia and dad gave a shot at making our own chilli dogs with help from mom. We didn't nail the recipe the first time around, but we got better!
CR!Sonic: Family bonding done to a T, son!
Hog: Chilli dogs, huh? Is that a common courtesy our, erm, "non-bootleg" selves like to have?
Wacky: Yep.
Hog: I swear I gotta give one a shot someday.
Mini Sonic: Trust me, Hog! It'll be worth it!
OMT!Tails: Ah, yeah! That reminds me! Knuckles and Amy were planning a barbecue today in our back garden, and we were wondering if you guys would like to join in!
Mr. NM: I call dibs on a chilli dog!
BK!Amy: That's such a wonderful thought, Tails! Count me in!
OMT!Mina: And me!
Nitro: Heh, no way I'd turn down opportunities to hang out with my multiversal pals off the clock!
BluBuni: A barbecue? Yay! I'm looking forward to it!
Benjamin: Me too!
EX!Alice: Well, we'd better go and get ourselves set up. Thanks for the question, Brendan!
D-Sides Mighty: And NM? Please don't go hogging all the food before we even get a chance to have it.
Mr. NM: Aww, you guys are no fun. >:(
Hog: Wait, was that a pun or-?
D-Sides Mighty: Nah, it was proper speak.
Hog: Ah, right!
A little later, elsewhere... (extra scripting by @becdoesthings)
CLE: ... What did he call me after he left...?
Cindy reloaded a glock, intent on really putting him to rights.
Nitro: Okay, okay. We'll handle him should he try to mess up the barbecue later. Plus, he's less likely to call you... THAT again now that you did that to him.
CLE: ...Duly noted. I really hope he learns. Cuz I know people that don't learn shit.
Nitro: Me too. Then again, knowing Needlemouse's track record, it's not too likely.
CLE: Disappointed, but not surprised.
Nitro: Same.

i feel like it’s worth adding that smoothies are also a really easy way to sneak in vegetables, or a bunch of other nutrient dense stuff you wouldn’t otherwise be able to tolerate.
some ideas:
- most vegetables blend pretty seamlessly into a smoothie if you balance it out with a bunch of fruit you know you like. spinach and kale are the common ones, but squash, carrots, legumes, chickpeas, etc. all work great and have easy to mask flavors
- chia/flax seeds, super high in protein and fiber and are a good addition if you can handle the texture change that comes with seeds- unless you pregrind the seeds into basically dust the texture of them will be noticeable but they are small
- coconut oil, not a super common one but that can be added to milkshakes too! it’s high in antioxidants and healthy fats
- yogurt!! greek yogurt or kefir are the highest in nutrients, they’re full of probiotics and protein and will make your smoothie/milkshake thicker and creamier
- if you’re chronically dehydrated and forget to drink enough, get more hydration per drink by adding in electrolyte packets or electrolyte drinks instead of water. liquidIV goes a long way for me
- ginger, turmeric, matcha, and cinnamon, these are all good digestive aids
- peanut butter/sunflower butter
- avocados, super good for you and the flavor gets totally camouflaged
there’s probably a million other really good additions, and the internet is full of them but be wary of “health” blogs promoting orthorexia over actual nutrition, but they do have a lot of good ideas and recipes
just see what happens if you take all the torture and rigid rule following out of eating healthy!! so much of what “enforcing healthy eating” looks like in parenting and medical care revolves around shaming and this idea that you just need to like, grit your teeth and learn to swallow the damn peas
you don’t need to swallow the damn peas. if it feels like torture stop, try it a different way or on another day. you’re allowed to throw away food. one person throwing away a few bites of veggies doesn’t compare to massive food waste from corporations on the daily, so you can let go of that worry. it’s okay to toss it out. it’s okay to pack it for another day. it’s okay to to mush it around with your fingers just to play with the texture, and then throw it away without taking a bite. that’s called exposure, and it’s okay.
experience foods you can’t eat in any way you can- touch and smell foods, help other people cook foods you’re not ready to try, it actually helps a lot! trying new things is punk as fuck! eating vegetables the “wrong” way is punk as fuck.
the rich are not a balanced diet, you also need some greens
i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.
#arfid#autistic#learning to tolerate eating vegetables after years of sensory ick and constant shaming is hard but you can do it!!!#judgement free eating#solarpunk#punk culture#you gotta eat your vegetables so you can grow big and strong to beat the capitalists okay#anarchocommunism#arfid recovery

Carrot, Ginger and Kale Juice (Vegan)
This Carrot, Ginger and Kale Juice packs such a punch it can be substituted for your (first) morning cup of coffee. And you basically have 3 1/2 of your 5 a day in there, too!
Ingredients (serves 1):
3 medium carrots, rinsed
1 thumb-sized piece fresh ginger, peeled
1 1/2 lemon
6 ice cubes
2 large leaves fresh kale, rinsed
2 teaspoons agave syrup
Using a juice extractor, extract the juice of the carrots and the ginger intoa bowl. Thoroughly squeeze in lemon juice.
Place ice cubes in a blender. Roughly chop kale (you should get a cup), and add to the blender along with carrot, ginger and lemon juice and agave syrup. Process on high speed, until smooth and well-blended.
Enjoy Carrot, Ginger and Kale Juice immediately.

Just going to add some stuff:
If it is Lumberstack themed specifically, probably a lot of diner-style food, with an emphasis on pancakes, with at least one dessert pancake with fairy floss/cotton candy and lollipops to decorate it (based on Dream Fluffs and Psi-pops)
Though, if I were to go a little less focused on one specific restaurant, I'd include:
-Some noodle dishes and Perfectly Fresh Sushi (Don't worry, Raz got rid of the day-old stuff) based on the Noodle Bowl,
-"Ford Week-long Burger"(Probably has either some sort of pickle or something slow cooked. You can get it regular old rare/medium/well done or "Ford Style" which is just charred to a crisp)
-Some Grulovian-style dishes(adaptions of various east European dishes. I can see some sort of stew from the Aquatos)
-Speaking of, Lake Oblongata Fish Gumbo
-Some sort of Brain Food type dish(High in omega-3 and iron type deal, after all a sceret agent needs to be in top form!)
-a Smores themed dessert(I'm thinking that Raz might of written notes on the menu, and he's upset he didn't get any Smores at camp)
-Brain-in-a-jar drink (A pink Agar jelly or ice cube brain sitting in a blue green liquid that's probably blue Curacao or lime flavoured)
-honey cake, honey flavoured tea, honey glazed bacon?(Cassie has a lot of honey she needs to get rid of)
-Oleander's rabbit-friendly salad with optional dressing (There's no carrots in this, and it's stated that this was something Mr Bun liked, minus the dressing)
-some horrific energy drink mocktail that Otto invented as a so-called Stamina Booster
-Coffee (specifically stated to be Sasha's prefered blend)
-Pancakes
-at least one Portuguese recipe from Milla
-Dream Fluff and Psi-pop themed milkshakes, with individual Dream Fluffs and Psi-pops also being an option
-Some crazy sensory drink for Helmut. Probably involving buzzbuttons, Boba, poprocks, or some combination of them
As an explanation, perhaps Hollis is trying to work out a new cafeteria menu that isn't as expensive, asking workers to donate recipes, and the themed restaurant is them testing them out (and also getting more money for the Psychonauts)
I was watching video about collab cafes and now I have question - what you think psychonauts themed cafe would be like?
What kind of food would there be? What psychonauts-themed dishes you can imagine?
i wanna say the cafe could be lumberstack themed or something and i feel like it'd be a lot of rustic diner food just bc that seems to be the general psychonauts vibe. burgers, pancakes, fries, ect ect. my brain isn't on enough rn to think of specific theme'd drinks or orders but it's definitely a plausible cafe to have exist
