Power is a disease, a disease that's supposed to make you feel strong and make you feel like you are best version of yourself, capable of doing anything at any given moment, a sickness so deadly that its capable to corrupt the minds of those who port the disease, making them into shallow cells of who they were before and losing their humanity in the pursuit of more of it, people addicted like junkies, Max is one of the porters, but this power, rewinding power more precisely doesnt feel the way a candidate for president should feel when they get elected and doesnt feel like the captain of a winning award football team keeping up their score, hell, it doesn't even feel like being a dictator of a country that so desperately wants you out of where you are but they cant do anything because you have the power.

She feels like she's dying, almost everyday of using her powers feels like one step closer to the end, nonstop headaches, bloody noses, blurry visions...the whole package of an anemic teen, the beatings havent stopped either, cliques want to start shit against the group for no other reason than to torment Jimmy more about the weight on his shoulders that is being accused of killing girls, one of them being his girlfriend, sure it sucks to be Max but it must suck to be Jimmy way more, right? Her head throbs as the thought passes through it, a cough escaping her mouth.

She should feel proud of where she is now, not every 15 year old gets superpowers like she does. She also has a super cool investigating friendgroup which she hangs out with and have made more progress than the cops in the cases of missing students! Chloe wanted to cry, this wasn't the boy she once knew, the one who she shared memories with, whom she had helped with his illness(mental illness) and viceversa, the dumb bowlcutted scrawny unintentionally funny boy she once knew wasn't there anymore, after that one manic episode he had just three years ago, he just stopped trusting her, and it hurt her, it hurt her because she didn't know why, maybe she did something wrong that she didn't adknowlege in time? Idk if this means anything to you but I'm a comic artist who's had a hard time doing art for a few years. The first four was because of life hardship and lack of time/chronic pain, but now lately I've had time but a mental block. I'm creeping up on 30 and felt bad about myself for "missing out" on my opportunity to be a comic artist. I have wanted to make comics my entire life. before my dad got sick, and my childhood kinda fell apart, all i did was draw. after that, i used the stories in my head to cope. life moved on. i was convinced not to accept a partial scholarship to an art school in California. life got hard. i worked at a hotel, and after i escaped an abusive relationship at 22 i hitchhiked/bused far far away to start over. i tried to make comics again, but i had to survive, and so i got another job doing the only thing i knew how to do, hotels. and i worked. and worked. and life got harder and times got heavier and i didn't get time to draw and i worked double hours, 15 to 17 hours a day. and i went four years without drawing a single thing.

i kept working myself into the ground. i was 29 now. i picked up a pen again and drew a red haired boy. he had a hard life and no love and no friends. his problems were on the outside, for everyone to see. he ran away but his problems went with him.

i was 32. surely i was too old now. my time to be an artist was gone. i had no school. no hope. i was so far behind the younger gen i saw online. i cried. all the time. i wrote stories in my email drafts while i worked shifts. i stayed up late trying to learn how to draw again. i cried some more. the boy grew. i called him Fiach. worthy. a raven. later i renamed him Avery. he was like a bird, he had wings, he was my hope. i started writing some friends for him. the people i wished i had around me.

i started finding time and space. i got a new job, something where i was lucky enough to set my own hours. for the first time i had a partner who believed in me. things were hard. but i was drawing now. and that helped.

i went on a road trip and i started drawing pages of an unnamed story on 6 by 8 paper in a sketchbook. i drew 20 of them. 'what could i call this?' i thought. Nothing Seems as Dark...no says my partner. Seemingly Dark. he made me a logo. i was 35. i bought an ipad, i cant do this on paper, its too much story i have too much to say. so i learned how to draw digitally by tracing my own trad art pages.

I spoke to my dad for the last time on June 17th, fathers day that year. he said 'you're good. i'm proud. and you're gonna do amazing things. none of this is your fault. and we will speak again soon.' i didn't know id never hear his voice again. he died a week later.

i turned 36. i kept trying. i'm old, i don't understand the internet. how can i share this?

i stumbled across Lore Olympus. i was introduced to webcomics. id read comics online before but the thought never occurred to me. i opened an account on Tapas. and then i stared at it. what if no one likes it. what if its bad. my art isn't good. i should wait til i'm better. but will i ever really be better? or will i always believe that tomorrow is better? do it now. if even one person gets something out of this story, this story about a boy who is you, a boy who looking for hope, a boy who might make it, then that is enough isn't it.

June 17th 2018 i launched Seemingly Dark.

SD's five year anniversary is in a week. 0ver 700 pages. leaps and bounds in progress with my skills. a printed comic under my belt as of monday. i was always a storyteller. but i was always an artist too.

I am 41 years old, dear anon. I did not truly embark on this journey til i was 35. life got in the way. even now, chronic illness gets in the way. but its worth it. its never ever too late. i believe in you the way my dad believed in me. i reset my life again and again. but I was always an artist. and if thats who you are, and who you want to be, even if things dont go the way you wished they could, you're an artist too.

im 41 years old. i speak about my age, even though i often feel too old to belong in spaces, cuz really, in this case age is just a number. take care of yourself. do what you need to do. and little by little, when your able, carve out your space until it becomes more of a habit. sometimes i think about all the years i lost not drawing or creating. but there's a lot of factors that make me believe had i made my story then, it wouldn't be the story it is now, i needed to live a bit. i needed to find myself. i know this was long, but i just wanted you to see i also had to put my life in order, and getting notes like this reminds me it wasnt at all a waste. im glad i could offer you some comfort. thats honestly the best compliment i could ever receive.

TL;dR I was 35 when i sat down and seriously started making comics, because life always got in the way and so did my confidence. i always feared being too old. im 41 now, still going strong.

hello god of world building, lore, and plot execution. you are one of my favorite authors, i adore your writing so much and admire and respect all the effort i can tell gets put into each word. i have a tomarry fic ive been toying with for months now and i feel like i have a lot of the pieces, or at least enough of them to not get too caught up in the rest right now, but im having a hard time sitting down and using any of it. im finding it extremely difficult to not be a perfectionist in my planning when it comes to writing, so im constantly overthinking all of my world building and lore that i want to incorporate and how i want to insert any of it into the plot to the point that i cant let myself move on to actually fleshing out my plot beyond the bare bones, let alone actually writing a damn bit of it. when i do try and write anything anyways i get so stuck on trying to make everything perfect and publishable on the first go that it's killing both my motivation and my enthusiasm for the story itself. i was SO excited for this fic, but i almost feel like ive ruined it for myself by picking it apart so thoroughly and still not being satisfied enough with anything. how do i get out of my own head to actually make progress and enjoy it? i feel like ive tried every hack and trick and tip in existence but i just cant pull my head out of my ass with this one no matter how or what i try.

Oh my god, I'm not a god at world building. At least, I have never felt that way. I've always struggled with that in my own original novels. However, I do believe Terrible, But Great has been training me for a day when I can do it for my own original novel/series.

I am so glad you asked this question. I'll let you in on a little writing secret, all right? I'm gonna use some cryptic language on a couple things to avoid spoilers for other readers.

I didn't know Scarcrux existed until I wrote chapter 20.

I didn't know "god 1, the one connected with a phoenix" existed until I wrote chapter 18.

I didn't know "god 2, the golden one" existed until I wrote chapter 24.

I didn't know Marcus was trans until the beginning of Arc Two.

I didn't know who Alphard, Quintus, Sebastian, Marcus, Roland, and Simon were in the beginning. I didn't know their struggles. I didn't know their families. I didn't know their pain.

When I posted chapter 1 on December 15th, 2021, I did not know that horcruxes were not the source of soulmates. It worked out because of what I established in chapter 47.

I completed Arc One without knowing everything that would come about in Arc Two and Three. Even to this day, I do not know what most of Arc Five will entail, but I have some hints and I am laying threads down in the anticipation that I will know later on.

I did not flesh out my plot from the beginning. I started with the intent of wanting a couple of skeleton milestones.

I needed a parselmouth reveal. (Chapter 12)

I needed Harry to hit a breaking point. (Chapters 15 - 17)

I needed the ultimate fight to the death between Tom and Harry. (Chapter 18 aka The Twink Fight)

I needed them to become friends. (Chapter 20)

I needed to Tom to hit a breaking point. (Chapters 25 - 28)

I needed Tom to get his relief. (Chapter 29)

I needed Harry to realize his feelings. (Chapter 41)

I needed the patronus reveal. (Chapter 44)

I needed Tom to go through a sexual awakening. (Chapter 41, 45, 46)

I needed a catalyst for Tom. (Chapter 48)

I needed the first kiss. (Unknown Chapter)

The plot has been solely focused on Tom and Harry, even though it doesn't always feel like it. Everything is designed around them.

It's designed to break Tom Riddle. It's designed to rebuild him.

There are other points that I knew I needed early on, but I cannot reveal them because they're in Arc Three. So many of these scenes above started out as small little snippets, little outline dumps of scenes that I knew I wanted for the story.

And then I wrote and wrote and wrote.

So many younger or less experienced writers feel like they HAVE to plan everything out before they begin writing. They believe every detail has to be ironed out. Gotta know every detail of the backstories. Gotta know all the subplots and the every grain of sand in the world.

You don't.

There is literally HUNDREDS of things in my story that I did not know until I wrote the chapter and then edited said chapter. There are things I didn't plan for on so many levels.

In the beginning of chapter 29, you get a memory of Harry from the past. I didn't know about that until I had already finished the chapter and edited it. I did not know.

In chapter 48, Tom does something to a man in the middle of the fight and it shakes him. I did not plan for that. I did not know about it until literally the day I posted it after I'd edited it. YESTERDAY. I only found out this YESTERDAY. I had to edit today's chapter to accommodate that change.

Writing is an act of discovery. Writing is a journey.

If you wish to 'pull your head out of your ass,' my only suggestion is to begin writing without being worried that you're going to ruin something because you started writing. No such thing, luv. Creating is not an act of destruction. I have scrapped a lot of writing. I have rewritten nearly EVERYTHING. My cuts document contains 6,000 words. I have a lot more ahead that I have scrap and rewrite entirely because of how much lore Arc Two developed.

Just write, luv.

Enjoy the process.

If you're worried about posting, then just hold off for a bit. Get to the 50k mark, the 100k mark, and then look back. See if you're getting everything you want down. Write out of order.

The process of doing a comprehensive edit will change your life. (I'm not talking about a little proofread for typos; I'm talking about rebuilding sentences, tightening them, expanding them, expanding scenes, reordering scenes if need be, etc)

There are no hacks, no tricks, and no tips that will get you through writing.

You simply must write.

Let go of the planning and start enjoying yourself. Write. If, at first, the scene doesn't go in the direction you want it to go, then you can rewrite it or edit it in the future. Your story isn't written in stone. Your story is made out of clay, easily moldable to your desires and wishes.

Now use your excitement as fuel to write. Let the joy of discovery be what keeps you going, rather than the need to know it all in the beginning. That's impossible. That's asking too much of your conscious mind. Your subconscious will likely know more than you do. I just figured out something about Simon that I had laid out ages ago, yet I hadn't realized I'd done so until recently.

Go write. Write and write. Put your planner down. Decide what are must haves in your fic. Create boundaries that your characters are not allowed to cross. (Mine was Harry could not leave Hogwarts in TBG and in Elysium's Sanctuary, Voldemort wasn't allowed to kill the Dursleys)

on writing a story

When I had my first big idea, that I actually wanted to do something with, I was 15 years old. It was the idea, that I could feel meant something. I had always been scribbling some stories, but none were like this.

I spend an entire art class furiously noting down the plot. And when I got home, I wrote the first page.

And you know what? It was absolutely shit. It was awful seriously. I had no idea about how to write, besides being an avid reader and even I could tell, that this was just genuinely bad.

So I saved the shitty first page, closed the laptop and simply didnt give up.

I went on YouTube and typed "How to write a book?" And for half a year I watched and read anything I could find on the topic, meanwhile always writing new first pages. I severly changed my art class plot and I learned how to create actually believable characters.

Why did I do that? Because I loved my story. More than anything. And the more I learned, the more I knew, that if I wanted to be serious about this, it would be difficult. But thats where you start. The Idea comes first and it drives you forward. You just need to follow it word for word. And you need to believe in your story, because at the beginning noone else will. Noone else will fight for it, so you have to. And you cant give up and abandon it for something new, because it gets difficult. Then you'll never make it.

If you ask yourself, or me, or anyone: How to write a book? You need to love your story. You need to be willing to learn and change things for it. You need to genuinely work on it. Even if its in baby steps. And dont ever give up on it.

T: The coupling track (of Rinkaku) is so heavy! Its been 15 years since you first recorded Kiri to Mayu, right?

K: Yeh, I cant believe I've been in this band so long.

T: That was just around the time MUCC started. Its awsome when I think about it.

K: It was one of the first songs we wrote after we formed. We rented this kind of container in a warehouse, you know the type usually packed onto ships? And we all logded in there together for a week, and wrote some original songs of our own.

T: So at the very start you only had a handful of songs as Dir en grey? Where did Kiri to Mayu fall in the order of songs? What was the very first song you wrote?

K: The first ones were Aoi Tsuki, and Karma. And then Kiri to Mayu came a few songs later.

T: Do you play it live?

K: ...No

T: Hahaha

K: When we decided to re-do it, I listened to it for the first time in ages, and listening to the end was actually embarrassing.

T: What, because of the arrangement or something?

K: Because of everything!

T: So, the other song on the release is the Remix version of Rinkaku. This remix is by Yamaoka Akira, who created the soundtrack for the horror game Silent Hill. Why did you ask him to do it?

K: Well, we've known him for a while, and when we started thinking about including a remix, we wanted to find someone to do it who you wouldn't normally associate with this type of thing. So we thought of him, and when we asked him, he agreed.

T: Where did you meet him?

K: Well, like connections through work, he came to our lives and stuff.

T: Do you guys play video games?

K: Yeah, well...not much recently, but yeah.

T: What kind of games do you like?

K: RPGs I guess.

T: Like Dragon Quest?

K: Yeah.

T: Dir en grey plays Dragon Quest! Haha. Do you decide on the main character's name at the start?

K: Yeah, Kaoru.

T: Haha, you call it Kaoru?? Dir en grey uses Kaoru to destoy the Demon King in Dragon Quest?! How cute is that??

i have 107 on maketea, but with my um. two other accounts i have 128

on maketea i have 293,935, but with at least one of my other accounts (one of them is for ml and one of them for another fandom, the latter of which i cant be bothered to log in to rn shdjsk) the total is 313,681!!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

miraculous ladybug mainly! but i have also written for owari no seraph. ive written for other fandoms but im not counting it if i literally only have one work to my name for them HSJAJA with ons at least i have 3 on maketea and 12 on my other account

THEORETICALLY. i also write for sailor moon. i have a substantial amount in my google docs. they just havent manifested themselves into existence yet

apology gifts, like poles of a magnet, new marinette, a nine-year old (fhfjsj), and i'll marry you! ive actually had kudos/hits/comments stats hidden on ao3 since 2021 so i have no clue how many kudos any of these have which is very funny to me

there's something that feels kind of hesitant when i read my docs sometimes? it feels like im worried to hit the point of the plot head-on and skirting around what i actually want to say. i think what i'm trying to do to improve is to be a bit more direct in my narration style and focus on being descriptive only when it's needed.
