WHEW Part one of Caro and John’s history and lore-dump. Obviously you can read more about them in depth in either of my webcomics Seemingly Dark and Mil-Liminal, but this has some stuff that isn’t addressed there so that’s fun! Drew this silly mini comic after Caro wakes up in Johns apartment (Avery Jones part 15 in my webcomic Seemingly Dark on Webtoon.) what to do when you’re a famous influencer but you threw up on your crush after getting possessed by ghosts and he STILL took you to his house and now you have only one choice since he’s at work and that is to snoop.

You say that the cross earrings belonged to John's mom so that's how we know him splitting one with Caro means he's in it for life. But also in the black-and-white alley flirtations comic he's only wearing one, which of course could just be because of fashion. But my question is did he give Caro their half in high school before juvie, or after they reunited?

He’s known to wear just one dangle earring, be it the cross, a sword, safety pin etc for fashion purposes, this is a self insert thing, his aesthetic is modeled after mine and I wear a single knife earring daily haha <3

To answer your question, he gave it to them shortly after they reunite. In the comic, Caro ends up staying at his place after some bigger events in the story, they aren’t really dating yet though. Caro is a cute little packrat and goes through all his stuff and ‘borrows’ (steals) shirts and sweaters, his hat. They ask to borrow the other earring, telling him they are willing to be matchy matchy is their way of letting him know they like him, Caro isn’t one to use words. He doesn’t tell them it was his mom’s, and he just never asks for it back.

As to how he even has them after he was in prison, cuz I’m sure someone’s going to ask or wondering haha, as a teenager he would sew important things into his jacket lining to hide them, so he was able to get back anything he’d had in his possession when he was arrested. His friends brought him his jacket to the hospital before that, so he had a few personal effects left, even though I’m sure his dad purged his room immediately.

The origin story of many things, most notably, the ufo keychain you always see in my art. Where did it come from? How did it get there? Why does Caro always were a backward SnapBack like it’s 1997? All these answers and more in this mini one shot comic, Unidentified Flying Objects.

Sully may not know much about anything gender related, but he will give supporting his best friend the best shot he’s got. It’s hard to know what to do when you are just kids in a tiny town with no resources and a desperate need to keep things secret, either way, he will make sure Caro is safe, loved, and gets a chance to try on a new hat so to speak, and see what fits. It helps seeing as he’s the only openly queer person Caro knows. Stay tuned to find out how their Not A Date goes!

Does your OC collect anything?

got an utterly wild email at work today from someone accusing us of violating the city's status as a trans sanctuary bc we're “pulling award winning and bestselling LGBTQIA+ texts from our online library”.

because of predatory capitalism, libraries do not own their digital collections. we're purchasing a license for that content, and there's many different kinds of licenses. many of them are only available for one to two years, or a certain number of checkouts. audiobooks are more frequently unlimited loans and don't expire, but not always. the books in question that this patron was concerned about are "metered access" titles. they automatically get weeded when the license duration expires (for digital collections: weeded titles are hidden from our collections when there aren't any more copies in our collection).

hundreds of titles expire every week. we have 35,000 titles on OverDrive that are weeded atm -- we're not manually weeding them, it's purely automated. we cannot repurchase every title that gets weeded, especially when, say, the eBook you can buy for $7 costs us $75 and we can only keep it for either one year or 26 checkouts, whichever comes first. i look at the report of weeded titles when i get the email telling me what titles were weeded, and i prioritize rebuying titles that had holds on them when they expired -- if no one was on the hold list for Pageboy or A Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School when they expired, I have zero clue they expired in the first place! and when we purchase a cart of queer books all at once, say for Pride Month, they're all going to expire at the same time. so it's scary to see a bunch of books disappear all at once, but it's not because we're villains yanking them away from you.

we need activists fighting for the freedom to read. so please speak up if you have concerns about your library caving to book challenges! i appreciate that this person is fighting the good fight! but also: ask your librarian what's going on first. and submit patron requests for titles that you notice are no longer in the collection. we will rebuy them! (budget depending. we're the library of last recourse so we get a much more generous budget than most other libraries. still got our budget slashed this year, and other libraries are in very dire straits. so i would also encourage people to write their senator, especially during spring when budgets are being considered for the new fiscal year, and tell them to allocate more funds to libraries!)

I must know how Caro and John meet and get together in the non tragic au

Hm I dunno. Let's assume it's non tragic for the both of them. Obviously they knew of each other, they would still have been neighbors and friendly, but without the tragedy they wouldn't be constantly running into each others arms for comfort or using each other as a crutch. I guess it could happen a million different ways. I like the idea he still finds them through their podcast, the only difference is, this time, he knows exactly who they are.

He's watching them thrive, finding himself thrilled all the way to his bones with each new episode. Who knew the cute cheerleader next door was such a good storyteller? Well, he did, he'd realize, remembering when they were both really young, and he'd just moved to town, and being the new kid was hard. But the little blond with eyes unlike any he'd ever seen had grabbed his hand and told him stories, unbelievable ones and entranced him for hours on the playground. They'd drifted apart the older they got, different crowd, and whispers about something being wrong with the cheerleader, sometimes she'd collapse and no one knew why, or have anxiety attacks. And he wouldn't have known how to help, he didn't know if she even remembered how they'd been friends when they were little. He didn't want to overstep or be weird, so he went on with his life. But sometimes he'd swear she'd catch his eye in the hallways and give him a little smile. So anyway, when he discovered Mil-Liminal, he saw how much they'd changed and grown and how pretty they got, now that they were more comfortable in their skin. And his heart would flutter every time he'd tune in and they'd say 'Hey listeners!' That was him, a listener! And he'd see they were coming on tour nearby, a homecoming to Seattle's ScreamCon, and he say to himself, 'Self, maybe go down there and see. Maybe they remember you too. And if they don't, thats ok. Cuz you just really like the show and getting an autograph would be nice either way. Seeing them happy in person would be ok.' And he'd stand in line, all sweaty palms and shaky knees cuz sure, he went to school with this kid once, but also how often do you get to meet your celebrity crush! And he'd step up after like, an hour of waiting, and he'd swear their strange colored eyes would light up, but he'd figure he's just seeing what he wanted to see. Except he wasn't and they did, and the second he's within reach for the corny photo op he'd paid WAY too much money for, they'd throw their arms around his waist like the old friend they actually are, which would make him crumble and burst into laughter because of course they remember him. Just like he remembers them. And all the catching eyes and secret smiles through the years were real, and all the what ifs come crashing down around his ears cuz what if doesnt exist, only lets go! And he finds himself in the drivers seat of the restored Datsun, headed toward the sun and mount rainier with love and laughter in the passenger seat, and they've got a hand out the window doing the thing where you catch the wind in a wave and the sunlight is caught in their hair like a blinding halo and he can't remember what it was like when they werent there anymore, cuz they always have been. in every universe. in every iteration.
