Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.

Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.

So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.

In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.

Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.

It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.

Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

Still so iconic of Matt fraction to start his run like anyways off screen Clint and Kate who have met a few times before this run have become besties and are fundamentally now intertwined characters. Like and that’s just canon now. I think more comic writers should be willing to kinda just decide a new status quo like that especially with characters that have been under utilized

Day 25. almost free. almost done.

it is Fake Peppino Friday... but for some reason, the sound of clucking is in the distance? that's strange..... perhaps one of these little Fakelings has something to do with it.

around a nearby town, strange rumors started popping up, about an old abandoned building that had stood vacant for a good few years. but odd sounds had been heard from within, the sounds of hard work, heavy objects being moved, and inhuman, almost cluck-like cries. nobody knew what it could have been, and none were brave enough to investigate. until... one day, out of nowhere, the building appeared somehow cleaner, and a large sign had been hung out at the front, with the bright, colorful words:

CHIK'N PLACE!!!

who was the culprit? well, one step inside this newly refurbished restaurant and you will be greeted by its very enthusiastic owner...

the often-excited, very sociable Poultrino! she started off as all of the other Fakelings, a strange, gooey blob-like creature with hunger and curiosity. but soon after going out into the world on their own, she stumbled across a runaway definitely wild chicken, which she chased after with great interest and then gobbled up with glee. but, the feathery snack awakened a strange feeling in her, such a delicious taste, she wanted to share it with all the world! and thus gave rise to the fifth and final Fakeling...

and now, all customers are happily welcomed at her humble Chik'n Place! there is chicken of all kinds there; chicken wings, fried chicken, chicken nuggets, living chickens, anything you could possibly want, as long as it is chicken! (and all VERY legally obtained, she wouldn't THINK of pilfering chicken from other establishments for her own....) and not to worry, she is very polite and welcoming to anyone who wishes to visit! as long as you are not also a chicken, or a tasty bug or rat.

their appearance and body are quite unique amongst the Fakes as well! and though she is still made out of simple Goop like the others, her "skin" is fairly soft and smooth, almost feeling like soft fuzz despite having no real feathers! her legs, tail, and "fleshy" parts are the same gooeyness as standard Fake Peppino though. despite her strange appearance, most customers assume she's simply in costume, and very few are any the wiser as to their true nature.

though, one more very important fact to mention... you didn't think they worked alone, did you? of course not, all that Chicken isn't going to serve itself! which is why the first person to enter her restaurant was taken happily hired as the first employee!! say hello to Sue, Poultrino's favorite and only employee!! (credit goes to my wonderful friend @plebbicinnabun-arts for coming up with her! 😊✨)

she helps prepare and serve many of the chicken dishes! (and makes sure that the stuff that's served is actually edible when possible...) and not to worry, her boss treats her with great care! she is paid well in a salary of both "human currency" and delicious chicken-based foods! it might just be very strange trying to explain her job to friends and family.

but together, these two help run the Chik'n Place, and Poultrino finds decent success at running a business! her Papa is very proud of her.

Some of these are packed with lore you’d never know otherwise… and these aren’t even all the Neko Atsume books in existence!

#neko atsume #at least we got where am I meow and the haiku book… but that’s still only 2 and they were localized YEARS ago #they’re both very good and cute books though I highly recommend them :) they have at least some lore too #but the 1st 2nd and 4th books in this post are absolute lore GOLDMINES that I so badly wish we had gotten overseas :(#two guidebooks and a storybook… you have no idea how bad I want them XD #the fifth one is a storybook too I believe- less lore than the first but still very good and cute #also fun fact the pose snowball is doing on the cloud is from a goodie you can no longer obtain- a robot called pepper #ok but the sticker book would be SO easy to localize it’s just stickers!!! why did we never get it!!!#at least most of the content from the third row has been archived on the wiki cuz it’s from a free web comic #but I’m pretty sure there’s still some book exclusive stuff in there… 😔#the last book is a ‘psych test’ book with lots of quizzes… sounds interesting XD #anyway that’s my neko atsume brainrot for the day lol :p #heres to hoping neko atsume 2 is so successful that we finally get some of these localized XD a girl can dream…

the school arc to me is so good because it drags ciel out of his position as a powerful figure and literally places him in the shoes of the person he could have been. the circus arc ALSO drags him out of his position as big bad queens watch dog/head of the phantomhive estate but the school arc feels like a mockery of a future that never was. this is what he could have been had his parents not died. and even then its NOT because he will never be that kid.

You know what? I’m feeling particularly dragony today, so I’m going with Lady Trent from A Natural History of Dragons, and Princess Cimorene from the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. And though I love Cimorene a lot, and do think she’d be good with animals, Lady Trent wins, as she is a naturalist and has to actively care for and study the dragons she has, as well as the fact that she loved animals when she was younger too, and with all the time she puts into her work I feel like she would have to be good with animals. It’s shown in the books too that she’s overall pretty good with animals, especially the dragons she studies.

#Chaos Answers #sorry for not responding for a while I’ve been a bit tired but I’m back lol #And both of these series are so under appreciated I swear #A Natural History of Dragons is such a fun series about this woman writing an autobiography about her life studying dragons #In a world where they evolved naturally. Not a magical world. But a world where dragons are just another kind of animal.#And she’s super fascinated with them and studies them and has to deal with people stealing her work or messing with it and government stuff #And it’s a really well written series. It’s kind of set in the past. Also she’s a well written woman. She’s written like a person.#Like she’s actually shown having her period and stuff and being annoyed by it getting in the way of her work and all that.#And she’s really determined and stubborn and smart but sometimes makes dumb decisions in the name of research (as most do)#And then the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Oh my. It’s a really fun four book series following princess Cimorene #She’s strong and stubborn and smart and does NOT want to be a princess and deal with anyone’s bullshit #So she runs off to go live with dragons and work for one. And she ends up getting caught in several magical adventures and stuff #It’s technically a kid’s fantasy series but I have no idea how nobody else has ever heard of it or why it’s not more popular it’s awesome #So you know. If any of that sounds cool then look into them. after a day of contemplation im no longer as much of a hater <3 unraveled you seem.. fascinating

#not looking forward to the keefe inner monolouge still but!#i think the human perspective and potential human characters will be really fun!#and the whole perspective of his emotions slowly numbing sounds cool :)#my first instinct is to be a hater but i think this book has potential actually :) i dont think shannons the type to do a money grab #if she says theres important shit!! theres probably important shit!!#that also adds a new aspect to this because its like. if theres important shit. why didnt keefe tell sophie.#trust issues? sokeefe breakup book 10?#lmao anyway i am going to try and go into this book with an open mind #i think what annoyed me most yesterday was just. the keefe takeover of the series.#i dont really like how the plot has turned toward keefe instead of sophie but i can get over it :)#i dont even really dislike keefe? i just dislike the sheer amount of him in the later books compared to the other characters #i dont dislike sokeefe either! just the amount of it in both books and fandom #but i will get over my hater instincts. i am a lover from now on.#sorry this was rambly. peace and love and unraveled amen.#kotlc
