A couple of concepts for Star Wars fanfic ideas/character concepts. 

One is for a fic set a few years prior to the events of The Force Awakens, featuring my girl Khara Tazim. She is the daughter of a former Imperial officer who flees the empire upon realizing that his young, blind daughter is incredibly powerful in the Force and ends up on an Outer Rim planet of Antivion, an icy world that focuses primarily on it’s fishing industry. Her father, Kharth Tazim, realizing that his daughter will still be at risk if he stays with her, leaves Khara on Antivion with people that he trusts, and she lives a relatively peaceful, unassuming life.

And then Resistance pilot Poe Dameron crash lands on her planet. Early days of the First Order, features a sassy, repurposed Imperial Security droid, Brendol Hux being an absolute douchebag, a young Armitage Hux, Leia, and a happy reunion. 

The second is for a Clone Wars era fic; Daenyrah Andar is the daughter of very outspoken senator, Drax Andar, who was sent to live at the temple as a young child when her power with the Force became too obvious to ignore. She’s a seasoned padawan by the time the war breaks out, and soon after (through some rather tragic circumstances) rises to the rank of Jedi Knight and assumes command of her own legion, the 109th, along side her second in command, Nova. The story starts just before Order 66 and through a series of flashbacks; it follows the events of the war, exploring the relationships between Daenyrah and her troopers, as well as her especially close relationship and eventual romance with Nova, and the aftermath of Order 66.

The story has two different endings; a light side ending, and dark side ending.

Briefly stopped in to talk to the healer Nettie who the tieflings recommended us to; she's one of the druids and apparently works with Halsin when he's at home. Maybe she knows about tadpoles.

"I see you. Just give me a moment."

Hector is good at waiting and stood very patiently while she finished treating the injured bird.

(Side note that I really enjoy the rendering of all the animals in this game so far.)

Nettie, unsurprisingly, looked more than a little alarmed when Hector told her what he needed help with.

"A tadpole? A *mind flayer* tadpole?"

"You know of them? Can you help me?" Hector can't keep the urgency out of his voice, and he sees Shadowheart edge forward slightly next to him, watching the healer intently.

"I..." The young woman hesitates, looking between the four sets of eyes staring at her. "I'll do what I can. Come, follow me. I might be able to help."

They follow her into a closed off back area, on which a dead drow is lying stretched on a slab of stone.

"This one had the same problem as you. Attacked us in the woods together with some goblins," Nettie says grimly. "Tadpole crawled out of his head soon after."

Hector looks at the dead body with distinct unease. "The drow and I have the same kind of parasite?"

"Seems so," Nettie says with a rueful laugh. "Gave Master Halsin a right start." She frowns, turns away and begins to rummage on a nearby table. "It's why he joined the adventurers on their expedition. To find out what was happening. A pity you got me instead of him. He understands these things - studied them. Still, we have options."

She turns around, gripping an uncomfortably sharp-looking stick in one hand.

All of a sudden Hector is regretting starting this whole conversation.

"You don't have to be here for this," Nettie says to his companions.

Astarion lounges back on his heels with a slight smirk, clearly glad not to be standing at the front of the group.

"Please, don't mind me. I'll just watch."

Nettie nods agreeably, looks back towards Hector, and gestures with the stick. "All right, let's see what we can do."

Hector raises a hand and takes a step backwards. "What's that plant? Will it help?" he asks warily. Visions of an attempt at woodlands surgery are going through his head and he's not sure he likes the idea much more than becoming a mindflayer.

Nettie shrugs noncommittally. "It might, but first things first. Tell me about your symptoms. Have you noticed anything strange happening?"

Perhaps his companions might be less forthcoming about this - but I've decided that if Caden's defining trait was trust, Hector's is honesty. Open truth at all times. -5 to deception (not literally, but in practice. :P ) So he explains exactly what's been happening.

"I can merge my mind with anyone else that's infected," he says bluntly.

Nettie's eyebrows lift. "Victims can identify each other? Not that the others know they're victims of course... How'd you pick up the parasite? Halsin was desperate to find where all this was happening."

"On a mind flayer ship," Hector responds promptly. "I was kidnapped and infected."

Nettie swallows. "A mind flayer ship? But Master Halsin was sure--" She trails off, looks down at the stick in her hand for a moment. "Look, you've been straight with me, so I'll be straight with you. You're dangerous. If you transform here, we're all dead." She pauses, then puts the stick into her belt. "But you seem like a good soul," she continues firmly, looking up again to meet his eyes. "You deserve a chance to save yourself."

She pulls out a narrow vial of green liquid and extends it in his direction. "This is a vial of wyvern poison," she says soberly. "Swear to me you'll swallow it if you feel *any* symptoms."

A chill runs through Hector's blood and he goes very still. "I thought you could cure me?" he says shakily. "What about that branch of yours?"

Nettie looks at him steadily, unblinking. "The thorn?" she says flatly. "Coated in a fatal toxin. It was a last resort, in case I couldn't trust you." Her eyes flick away, then back to him. "I don't have a cure. Only a way out." She turns the vial slowly in her fingertips, watching the torchlight glint off it. "I'm sorry for misleading you, but I had to be sure you weren't a threat before I told you everything."

She extends her hand again, pushing the vial in his direction. "Now, do I have your word or not?"

He swallows, reaches out and takes the vial. Much as it chills him to think of it - she's right. If it comes to it...this is the easier way out.

"I swear," he says.

She seems to relax slightly as he tucks the vial into his pack. "You know, I've spent my life treating folk and never once saw a mind flayer infection," she says thoughtfully, her eyes sweeping over him from head to foot. "Then suddenly there's dozens of you, maybe more. Master Halsin and I were tracking them, studying them, trying to figure out what the hells was going on. Because you should all be changing - there should be a small army of mind flayers out there! But you're not. Weird powers aside, you seem perfectly...normal."

Hector pauses halfway through the motion of turning away, and looks back at her questioningly. This is new information, not something anyone with vague knowledge of the situation has yet mentioned. "What do you mean, 'should' be changing?"

Nettie shrugs uncertainly. "Mind flayers reproduce by infecting someone with their parasite. Seven gruesome days later, the victim transforms and a new mind flayer is born." She gestures towards his face. "The thing in your skull, though? It's different to anything in our records. It's one of their worms, for sure, but this one gives you powers - telepathic connections. And it doesn't turn you into one of them. Not yet, anyhow."

Hector raises his eyebrows, feeling a spark of hope at this information. "That's...good news?" he asks cautiously.

Nettie frowns, clearly frustrated herself with the lack of certainty. "Could be, but there's a lot we don't know. Infected - folks like you - have been converging on an old temple of Selune, and I've no idea why. When Master Halsin heard the adventurers were heading that way, he saw a chance to get answers. Joined on the spot." She pauses, looks down. "Whatever he found there, he didn't make it back."

A temple of Selune. A place where his brethren likely once stood, now corrupted by this same infection. Hector shudders - but in the back of his mind, the seed of hope has been planted, and it centers around this man Halsin. "You think he's still alive?" he asks.

"I think so. I hope so," Nettie says. "I've sent birds to find him, but they can't get close without goblins trying to shoot them down. You, though?" She squints at him. "You're one of them - technically speaking, I mean. They won't kill someone carrying their parasite. If you can find Halsin and get him out of there, we can discover what he learned. And perhaps he can save your life. How's that sound?"

It sounds like the closest thing he's heard to a plan since he woke up on the nautiloid. "All right. I'll find Halsin."

"Thank you," Nettie says fervently. "It would mean everything to the grove. To me. I wish I could tell you more, but only those adventurers know what happened out there. All I can say for sure is they all went to the old temple of Selune and Master Halsin didn't make it back."

She pauses, then leans forward a little. "Good luck out there. And if things start to go bad - remember the vial. Remember your oath."

Ok I’m going to do something I’m wondering if I make it an original story out of a fanfic this way and put in Wattpad… and then publish as a kindle book… but the world is heavily Holly black based… and the background of Jude and Taryn is… I found two characters in a fanart with name so similar to Feyre and Rhysand and reading a bit of it it’s obvious it’s a fanfic of in an heir comes to rise.. and except for a few letters the names are so similar… it occured to me it’s basically a fanfic for a court of thorns and roses, since I want to make two characters the ghost and Cardan as one character and basically am ok with changing his name… maybe even changing his background, and I’m thinking of changing some of the characters https://www.instagram.com/p/CmHl5hboAZf/?igshid=NjZiM2M3MzIxNA== I’m thinking of changing some things of Jude naming her Juliet instead of Jude and Cardan either Garett or Gawain… and changing Vivi into a faerie that is male but Eva’s family is alive and should I just do that? Make an original story playing with the characters name changing it with just a few letters… and making it similar characters personality but making my changes to the world? Like humans don’t physically grow old if they grow up in faerie… and some humans are equally beautiful to fae hence fae kidnap human women… and all that… should I do that with creating an original story just change some spelling and some characters and it could be an original story I post on Wattpad and kindle unlimited? Like I’m going to change some things of the world… change the words of a few names like Orlaugh changes to Orlith…. To Caden, Lirope, to Lia, Orianna to Rianna, and Taryn to Marlyn,

Hi there! Thanks for your question.

Disclaimer: I am only trained in South African copyright law, so my answer should not be taken as legal advice.

From what I understand, you will be creating an original storyline. So, you won't be rewriting the plot points found in Holly Black's books. The story itself will be original.

So, I think that it's fine to draw inspiration heavily from the characters and the world of The Cruel Prince, as long as you add enough changes to make it somewhat your own.

A lot of fae romance stories have the same basic worlds and character types. So, that shouldn't be a problem. But I would suggest adding one or two things to each character and to the world to distinguish it from Holly Black's work if you want to publish it to KU. You should be fine with Wattpad (I think). Perhaps try to incorporate characteristics from other fantasy characters and worlds you enjoy.

So, essentially, I think you would need to take it a step further than fanfiction with other names if you want to publish it to KU as an original. (Do not market it as Cruel Prince fanfiction, because that will get you in trouble). New story, slightly adapted characters and some changes to the world - and you've essentially got a unique work.

Make sure that you use your own creativity to create the product and to create something new.

Match Review: Manchester United U18s 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers U18s

A little bit delayed on this one - the Christmas season of work/gifts/social events and more is upon us big time...

It was nine consecutive wins for United's youth side on Saturday against a usually sticky opposition in Wolves. A bogey side for the men's side, the Old Gold has been a thorn in United's side at all levels - but not on this day.

Goals in either half from Gabriele Biancheri and Ruben Curley guided United to pristine nine wins from nine in the league this season. Wolves put up a decent fight, which on paper showed them to be under the cosh, but perhaps the eye test deceived given that Wolves had 11 shots but only the one on target. In contrast, United has nine shots and six on target.

A clumsy slide tackle gifted United a first half penalty, which was comfortably buried by Biancheri. Wolves did hang in with just the one goal deficit until the 92nd minute sending off of Caden Voice tipped the scales a little further in United's favour and allowed Curley to double the lead and seal the win for United.

United now boast a six point lead over arch rivals Liverpool in the U18 Premier League, with a game in-hand on them too, and the two sides will clash at Carrington on this coming Saturday - December 9 - in an 11am kick-off (hopefully live on MUTV).

Beneath The Keep Ch. 23 Thoughts

Below there will be spoilers for the Tearling trilogy as well as up to chapter 23 of Beneath the Keep. Please do not read this post if you haven’t yet read all that. :) 

What an interesting chapter! I really didn’t expect a whole chapter from Thorne’s perspective. Especially since in the Tearling universe he is thought of as pure evil, he’s seen in the way we see Hitler. And I thought the inner workings of his mind would remain a mystery so this was very interesting. 

Chapter Recap:

The chapter starts with the excerpt referencing Arlen Thorne as part of a song. This reveals there are many songs of the shipment and I love this insight to the culture of the Tearling. 

Thorne, Brenna and a member of the Caden are waiting around a bunch of trash and filth as they watch a building. The Caden is growing ever impatient and Thorne is too, they are waiting for someone. But Brenna assures everyone that the person will arrive as she saw. She gets mad and scolds Thorne. 

It is revealed that they are plotting to kill the Fetch. When he finally arrives and enters the building at least 50 other Blue Horizon members. Brenna reassures the Caden that yes, she is sure that that the Fetch had arrived. And she does that by revealing just how much she knows about that Caden and that shuts him up. The caden spring forth and together shut in the doors of the building with massive wagons. 

While Brenna and Thorne watch Brenna becomes anxious, she wants to leave but Thorne wants to watch. 

The caden all light the building on fire and it starts to burn easily. Everything is so dry because of the drought. 

Brenna is anxious about the baby that Elyssa is carrying. She keeps bringing it up and Thorne is exasperated. He says, “Is this about the baby again? Of course you can’t see it. It’s the size of a fucking slug.” But he does find it weird that Brenna can’t see the baby. He also notes that Mhurn has been kicked out of the Keep. 

Thorne wants to sell the sapphires over to the Red Queen but first he wants to wear them, just as a little “fuck you” to the kingdom that has made him suffer so much. 

As the building burns Brenna begs Thorne to let them leave, she is on the brink of tears. He finally relents, takes her hand and they walk away from the scene together as Thorne thinks about what a waste it is to have to kill the fetch and the blue horizon, but he has to do it for his plans. 

My Thoughts:

Concerning Thorne: This chapter gave us a lot of insight into Thorne’s past and motivations. He find out he had been sold into the deepest levels of the Creche when he was only a few hours old. Even the other “creche babies” stayed away from him because of his skinny strange appearance. He doesn’t go into detail about what he was forced to do but he does think about plotting revenge all this time. Bringing horror to the world “topside.” 

Concerning Brenna: Thorne is in awe of Brenna’s power but he also fears her power. He thinks she could have taken over the entire Creche if she wanted to but instead for some reason she choses to serve. We already know from the trilogy that Brenna can feel other’s pain, she knows what it is to endure suffering which is why I think in other chapters her laughing at people’s suffering makes me so mad.

Eugh, Kamurocho traffic. Certainly not by any measure the most common of obstacles, but today things were different. Today, Kamurocho traffic was a most present thorn in Caden’s side.

La Pizza had a specific guarantee on their deliveries- hot, ready, and at your doorstep in 26 minutes or less. This was not ordinarily a difficult time to make, especially for deliveries in the district, but a minute longer, and it was on them- “on them” usually meaning that the delivery driver would have to pay for it themselves to keep their record with the pizzeria clear.

Caden, being onesuch delivery driver, was bound by this most unforgiving guarantee, and with the unusual amount of traffic clogging the roads- who the hell drove local roads if they wanted to get anywhere fast, anyway?- it didn’t seem like they would make good on that promise.

They sighed, impatiently drumming the digits of their right hand on the steering wheel of their delivery van. Six minutes on the clock… why, at this rate, they were better off parking it and going to the delivery address on foot.

…Hey, wait a moment.

Wasting not a second more, Caden pulled over, parking their van next to the curb- were they legally allowed to park there?- cut the engine, and stepped out of the van, bringing the delivery bag with them.

Speed. I am speed.

Sprinting down the street, Caden made a mental note of the street signs blowing by- how far away were they? Six streets away. Five streets. Four. Three. Two…

They could swear their Converse were smoking as they came to a halt in front of…

A cat café? Is this the right place?

Hurriedly, they double checked the address on their phone, and sure enough, this was the address- and their timer was over by a minute.

Ah, well, hope they don’t notice- They push themselves through the front door, a entryway bell ringing to announce their presence.

“Pizza time.”

Half of these are like barely ocs lmao @rainbowfoxes and I just..........looked at all the universes and adaptations and went “okay how many of these can we shove into main continuity” and then “how many can we extrapolate off of that” so elseworlds kids + ocs + C L O N E C H I L D R E N

So Bruce, in addition to Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass, and Damian, also has Athanasia, Terry, Matt, and Helena

Dick has (in order of birth) Mari, Eleanor, Henry, Jake, Bryce, John, and Nzinga Elainna

Jason has (in order of acquisition) Penny, Sasha(Scarlet), Lian, Theo, Caden(Vessel), Clara(Cloud 9), Hui-Cheol(Devour), Hyacinth(DNA), Balla(Babe in Arms.....for now), and Reiser(Doomed) (the gen outlaw kids), Henry, Danny, and Nestra, and Alisdair

Flying Fox is Terry McGinnis, shoved into main continuity by way of Knightfall giving Amanda Waller an “oh shit” moment.

The Robin making the identity-compromising tiktok is Henry, who’s one of the older grandkids, a clone of Dick that Jason picks up. He becomes Robin kind of on the edge of when Bruce retires I haven’t actually worked out the timeline on if he’s Bruce’s last Robin or Cass’s first but he’s right around there

Peregrine is a speedster who’s also a Wayne. Someone decided to try and clone the core 4 of Young Justice and used Tim’s DNA as a stabilizer. 

The childless lesbian aunt is Cass, I actually miscounted on that post she just has 3 clones (listed above)

Eleanor is Catalina Flores’ daughter. Main continuity Catalina plans to use Eleanor as leverage but ends up giving birth in prison and Eleanor gets adopted by like. The most ordinary family ever. The Court of Owls later finds out about her existence and tries to get her since she’s also Dick’s daughter and Dick ends up finding out and getting custody after her adopted parents die.

However, on Earth 3 she’s raised by Catalina, who is a hero due to alignment flip, and becomes the third Tarantula.

Theo is a shitpost that got out of hand.

Henry, Delphine, Lori and Alisdair are all clone babies that are specifically inspired by weird characterization in adaptations - Titans 2018, Shadow of the Batgirl, the Birds of Prey Movie and Batman the Animated series in order
