nianqing didn’t intend on actively seeking anyone out at the party. as much as there were things on his mind he was a person who believe in the importance of manners, and hunting anyone down at an event of this caliber would be unseemly. it wasn’t entirely the same if he ran into someone by chance though, so when he happened to spot mu qing nearby he didn’t hesitate to approach. “a word?” nianqing asked, nodding to the side and moving off away to a quieter area of the party without waiting for much of a confirmation. “there was a development in things with the heavenly emperor lately. i was curious if you or any of your friends had spoken to him recently.”

"jesper!" sophie dried their hands on their apron, dropping the bundle of flowers back onto the counter as they moved around through the crowd at the sight of their friend. "i have no idea how to thank you--" she said, already moving to throw their arms around him. sophie wasn't entirely overly affectionate, but considering the help jesper had offered, with little asked for in return, this was the least she could do. "howl's home, things are.. well not entirely normal considering the circumstances, but they're home, and that's normal enough for now."

"at least for me. there's neither an attempt at murder or marriage to be committed tonight."

He says, idly. He didn't particularly care who was listening – though there was someone close by, enough so in range that they might be inclined to respond. Small talk was something he typically loathed, but it was a necessary tool when it came to gathering information and things of the like. Now didn't happen to be such an occasion.

"and here i thought you wouldn't be able to afford any of the drinks here." it wasn't quite true. it had been long enough that francis didn't actively pick every single bar he went to with the necessity to avoid lott in mind, but he hadn't gone anywhere he knew the man might frequent since the end of their friendship. after blowing up a little bit towards the end it wasn't like francis was actively looking for ore drama around the whole thing, instead just ditching the entire group of friends and doing his best act of avoiding people. he wasn't even sure how much he still cared or felt burnt from the whole event, but that didn't mean he wanted to be hanging around lott again any time in his future. "or did you just accidentally stumble in?" he supposed that would be in character, lott in the wrong situation by accident, and then almost certainly making a huge deal out of it.

"you look so pretty, seriously." sella grinned over at aequa, having caught the sight of one of the other interns, just happy to find a familiar face in the crowd. usually sella was stuck around her family, wanting to stay close by most of the time, but she had tried to find some friends to chat with earlier in the night as well. "do you want to dance? we should dance. we never get to have that much fun at work, we should get the chance now. come on."

Ding Tao flinched at that. "Yes, Second Young Master." He sighs. "I'll, ah. . .be. . .yeah." He went to go down the fire escape. He'll have to find another way to get him to remember that's not acting like they did in the past. . .but how?

He doesn't even dignify that question with an answer. Does it look as though Chiye wants to hang out? He's sure it looks very much like he just rolled out of bed and is about to commit a murder out of sheer frustration. "Ding Tao. Get the fuck out of my apartment, before I push you off the fire escape." He wouldn't, really, but the irritation behind the threat is very real.

"did you hear that?" andy asked as they skated on the ice. they'd been trying to enjoy the day at least, though they were clearly distracted. most of their energy having been spent on making sure they were ready to go in case vi needed them, and thinking about what to do about their problems. "i swear i just heard something-"

anya looks from jesper to the gun in his hand then back to him. "don't you have anything smaller?" she asks, making no attempt to take it from his hand. she's trying to learn to protect herself— she really didn't want to be used as an example for one of those cautionary phrases people say. what is it again? biting off more than you can chew? "is there not like a starter gun for beginners?"

she'd kept herself locked up in the bakery because her mind was flooded with a name. their name, she was fairly certain. kill him, or die herself. that wasn't fair. she didn't want to die, she was happy. she nodded her head as she reached out, handing her phone to the male. she thought about it for a moment. they were in a bakery full of things that could be weapons, but she had magic. magic she didn't understand, but she'd done things. maybe she could do something now? "you're welcome to stay as long as you want." melissa smiled softly, glancing over at him. fire, the only thing on her mind. it wasn't long before there were flames ingulfing him, as she stepped back. she'd have to replace her phone, and get out of here.

                                It isn’t so much the safety he needs, as a brief moment to take a breath and contact the shelter. He should’ve been back hours ago, and it’s not like Shen Qiao to be showing up late. With all of the violence on the streets, though, and the multiple altercations (serious and not-so-serious) he’d gotten caught up in— well. Shen Qiao returns the female’s smile a tad apologetically, making sure to properly wipe his shoes before entering. “Thank you,” he says, even going as far as to put his cane away, lest the female should mistake it for a weapon. “I won’t be outstaying my welcome, and I will surely buy some of those fantastic baked goods later. But, if it’s not too much to ask, could I please borrow your phone for a minute? I must have lost mine in the crossfire earlier.”

she would be a little embarrassed if any of the children saw her make a fool of herself, but meera would definitely be laughing by the end of it. she loves pranks even though she might punch his arm.
