Art Donaldson is canonically a girl dad, but I could also see him as a boy dad. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to have a son too. He seems like the type of person to want children, just because he wants children. Like it's as simple as that. He loves having a daughter, but he'd also love having a son. And in all honesty, he'd probably want multiple children. When you tell him you’re pregnant, he’s elated. He doesn’t think you need to know the baby’s sex when the doctor asks. He'd be able to bond with his children regardless of gender. So it's not something he ever thinks much about when he thinks about having children.

But I can only see Patrick as a girl dad. Having children in general scares him. Partly because it is a big commitment, but also because he's just afraid of messing up another human being. These feelings are just worse when he thinks about the possibility of having a son. He does not have a good relationship with his own father, so what if he just repeats the cycle with his son? He feels nauseous thinking about it. Do these fears exist with having a daughter too? Yeah they do, but it exists in the periphery. Not as blatantly obvious. He can think about having a daughter and not instantly think about the past. About his own childhood and his parents. When you tell him you’re pregnant, Patrick is spiraling. Patrick isn't sure if he would be a good dad, but he knows that if he is, it would be to a daughter not a son.
