Mistakes Like These (It's A Bad Idea, Me & You)

Because fuck it, I've lost my mind. A gift for @aulwil on AO3, and if I've made a feast I may as well throw a banquet. It's too long to put in a text post here. I started this before season 2 dropped. I'm also writing it again from Jinx's perspective, so it'll [hopefully] have a twin sometime soon.

Summary: They have always understood each other with the smallest of gestures, the faintest of expressions. A softness reserved for each other; exclusive to one another. That softness paints Jinx's face now with a demure smile, her lidded eyes warm and tranquil. Everything Silco loves in this life. cerisa speaks — literally started writing this the night of s2 act 3 release and only now finishing it if that doesn't tell you something about how inconsistent i am idk what does. ATTENTION PEOPLE IN MY REQUESTS!! i swear to god i will do your request in the next year for sure! viktor forgive me, amen.

jinx — gift giving. jinx's most loyal companion is her imagination so it isn't hard for her to think of gifts that are personal to you that'd you'd enjoy.

we see many of the little homemade trinkets that she's made for silco throughout the years, my favourite being the ashtray he keeps on the desk in his office. so dependant on what you're into, she'll showcase her love for you in the form of a trinket.

oh, so you like to read? she sees you dog-earing a page of your book whilst you two are in her hangout and drops her current project to fashion you a bookmark. you only notice that her tinkering has stopped when the bookmark has been dropped on your lap and she's made a blasé comment about you destroying your book for too long so she just had to make you this so you'd stop.

hiding behind a mask of indifference when giving out her gifts is kind of her thing, but she's anxious to no end to see if you like it. her mind runs a mile a minute; 'don't they like it? do the colours not match? they hate it they hate it theyhateittheyhateittheyhateme-'

until you're holding it carefully between your fingers and your mouth is making that 'o' shape it does when something unexpected has happened. when you say that it's the most thoughtful gift you've ever received she's insistent on making you a hundred more.

physical touch. stop booing me i'm right! let me explain. as we see before powder becomes jinx, she's quite normal with physical contact, we see vi hugging her, putting a hand on her shoulder, claggor helping her down to the apartment, etc.

it's after vi slaps and abandons her that she becomes uncomfortable with physical touch. silco (most of the time) lets her initiate it on her own terms.

one time he doesn't is where she's playing airplane with his shimmer device and he grabs her wrist. she lets him retain his grip for a moment but when she does move her arm away he doesn't follow her. through my own delusions i've come to the conclusion that jinx wants, maybe even craves physical comfort, but quickly feels smothered by it when it's forced on her.

despite this, with the right person i feel like she would be willing to accept physical affection from them. it would take time to establish and develop a trusting relationship with jinx but when you're there, you're there. she's also a deeply insecure person when it comes to relationships of any kind and retaining them so you'll have to slip in some words of affirmation between touches.

her favourite way to receive physical touch would for sure be you playing with her hair. running your fingers through it and scratching her scalp? congratulations, that's your new job. you mention off the cuff how you'd love to see her hair down? suddenly there's a brush in your hands and an expectant and giddy jinx sitting in front of you.

even though she trusts you, she'll still get startled and tense up if you suffocate her with too much affection. holding your arms out for a hug or patting the seat next to you so she can lean into your arms is a much better way to initiate contact with her.

a little extra headcanon, when she's doing your nails she'll use her own hands to hold your fingers still instead of a wrist rest. she says it keeps them steadier so she doesn't make any mistakes but really she craves that subtle contact.

ekko — acts of service. season two episode seven dictates this as canon i'll be taking no arguments on this day. seeing his huge mural of future vi to show powder after he upsets her really just cements this headcanon. this is a pretty big action so i'll focus on the smaller ones for now.

starting off really strong with him decorating your room for you. close your eyes and imagine him building you a shelf to store your books or keepsakes. not only building it but carving designs into it. ohh you like music? well take a look at those carvings of sheet music! and do you spy some new books in your collection (stolen from a piltover library, naturally)

with so many different types of people living at the tree, at the beginning he was pretty much forced to learn how to cook all different types of meals. it paid off though because no matter where you hail from, he'll be able to prepare you any of your favourite dishes.

the more i type about ekko the more i realise he is the best househusband out of the arcane gang. he can cook, he can clean, he's a provider - he is quite literally the entire package. him being a certified pretty boy also helps because everyone needs a little eye candy in their life.

this one is sickeningly sweet but for relationship milestones, and even just randomly, ekko will fully plan out a date night for the two of you. picnics on the top of buildings that overlook the neon lights of the undercity, just the two of you. it's so intimate.

physical touch. now this i truly will be taking no arguments on. receiving physical affection for ekko is huge. we all saw how fast he hugged benzo in the alternate au!!

with so many people from his early life either dying (benzo, vander, claggor, mylo) or leaving (jinx and vi), ekko hasn't really had anyone to offer him any form of closeness. sure, he has the firelights. it just isn't the same though.

so when you come along with all the tender hugs and fond touches that he's been deprived of for so long he knows he's done for. consider him addicted. even just clapping a hand on his shoulder after a fight, hell, LEANING ON HIM?? that man is YOURS to command for now until the end.

knowing you're just physically there and not going anywhere - not abandoning him - he's content to bask in your presence.

quick kisses and brief glances at each other come in abundance. if you're not at the firelights base then you're on the go. it's these times that make you both appreciate the time you have with each other. ekko plans to take full advantage of the downtime you both have between missions. don't expect to stray a few feet from each other.

silco — acts of service. silco's acts of service are usually communicated through orders that he gives his goons. say you offhandedly mention that some shimmer addicts have set up camp in the alley next to your apartment. when you leave the last drop and go home you notice that those shimmer addicts you briefly complained about? gone. without a trace.

i feel like he prefers to give out acts of service to you as a kind of 'i can provide for you, don't leave' kind of thing. you don't need to ask silco to do something, he'll take the initiative. he wants you to view him as a reliable provider. this sounds very 50s but he's an old fashioned kind of guy so it checks out.

not the kind of guy to do chores at the start i'm afraid. he has people for that. maybe you can convince him to wash the dishes after you cook you, him and jinx a meal. but never and i mean NEVER will you catch this man hoovering or mopping the floor. that is just simply not going to fucking happen. you'd have better luck asking him to quit smoking.

not gonna lie he just lightens the load of whatever jobs you need to do so you can spend more time together. the famed eye of zaun is clingy.

physical touch. actually controversial take no way CHILLS! similarly to jinx, silco wouldn't actively look for physical touch in any given situation. he's obviously traumatised by his former best friend choking him out and drowning him underwater. not to mention completely brutalising his eye.

jinx is likely the only person he would willingly let touch him. not even sevika on a good day gets that privilege. you would need to spend a lot of time gaining silco's undying trust. only when you two are emotionally close will you be able to share his touch.

buying you jewellery just so he can feel the warmth of your body heat as he clasps the necklace around you neck. silco is very subtle and sneaky when he wants to be close to you.

his neck is off limits to everyone, even you. placing your hand on his collarbone whilst entangled in bed together is the furthest you'll get.

vander — physical touch. oh i just know this man gives the best bear hugs. physical intimacy with vander is just safety incarnate. when he takes you into his arms it really feels like a breath of topside air after a lifetime underground.

i don't think vander would really like being with a partner that didn't enjoy physical affection. it's not only a bonding experience for the both of you to engage in but also a display of trust that he deeply values.

conveying his love for you with intimacy, non-sexual and sexual is something he cherishes. the level of mutual understanding and relationship building that comes with it is indispensable to vander. basically the keys to a successful partnership with him.

that little symbol of love in the undercity where two people touch their foreheads together? that's the most significant way you can show that you truly care for someone and it's vander's favourite way to connect with you in moments of peace.

words of affirmation. vander is the type of guy to not necessarily need words of affirmation to feel good about himself but will appreciate it all the same. he tries so hard to be a good example to the kids and in general to the populace of the undercity. he wants this life to be better. he wants to be better.

he's the leader, the protector, all the pressure is on him. affirming his efforts through words goes further than you might think.

it's you and him against the world. the brewing political storm that plagues both the undercity and piltover is little more than a distant thought when you're whispering honeyed words to and fro in the dead of night. for a man with such an imposing presence, telling him that you love and need him makes him weak.

with your words of affirmation, he's more certain of his role in the undercity than he's ever been. you renew the passion he had in youth, he wants the best for you and will do whatever he can to obtain it.

viktor — quality time. viktor is all about sharing the same space as his partner. with him being the co-founder of hextech, it's difficult for him to find time alone to dote on you. which is why you''ll often find yourself in the company of viktor (and oftentimes jayce) in their lab, them working on a new use for hextech, and yourself either studying or simply watching the magic (literally) happen.

when jayce is off being the poster child of hextech or following councillor medarda around like a lost puppy, you and viktor will settle into comfortable silences. usually with the only noise being the tinkering of science equipment or the quick scribbles of pen on paper. there's no pressure to fill the room with unnecessary chattering. just you being with him is enough. your presence is akin to a relaxant to him.

sometimes most of the time you'll need to remind him to take breaks when you've been there for hours on end and he's showing no signs of stopping or slowing down. it's a practised routine at this point; he refuses, you leave it alone for five minutes, during this time he is sneaking glances at you when he thinks you aren't looking, waiting for you to ask again.

when you do, he feigns reluctance as you grab his hand to get you both some fresh air and a proper meal. he might actually be part cat now that i'm thinking about it. he just can't help but love spending time with you.

words of affirmation. actions speak louder than words? pft, yeah right. communication is deeply valued by viktor. he's exceptional at deducing someone's intentions behind their words so don't even bother trying to get something by him. it won't work. you try to plan surprise birthday party for him? he's one of the first people to find out about it.

so when you earnestly tell him how special he is to you or how appreciative you are of him, he knows it's 100% what you actually think and BOY does that fluster him more than anything.

he isn't very big on compliments, not that he doesn't value the ones you so willingly give him, but he finds it hard to accept the good and beauty you see in him. there will always be a part of viktor, machine herald or mortal man, that refuses to believe he could be good enough for this type of love. when he retracts inside his mind and lets his doubt drown him, it's you who can pull him out of the water and onto land. telling him that you love him just the way he is will silence his uncertainty.

oh you know what would just about finish him off? making him a lunch box and putting a note in there. it doesn't having to be something poetic, even a simple 'i love you ♡' will be at the forefront of his mind until he gets back home to you.

honestly, if you're someone who expresses their love through words of gratitude or proclamations of admiration then a relationship with viktor will be smooth sailing.

It's bugging me...

The inconsistencies and a lack of detail and continuity in S2. S1 was all about the tiniest details.

Don't get me wrong, the animation is gorgeous, BUT --

The underwater scene is where Jinx lets Silco go.

He was RIDDLED with bullets. Yet, not a mark on him?

Why is his damaged eye closed? I thought he didn't have an eyelid. Artistically, I think having his lifeless eyes glazed over would have been more dramatic, considering it's Silco. Nah, he just sinks like Jack to the depths of the Titanic.

How deep IS the Pilt River?? I'm assuming that's where she 'buried' him.

The whole first act is so damn rushed.

No one seems to wonder what happened to Silco? He was only the main person holding the Underground together by the strands of his pomade hair. His death is a BIG deal, yet it's glossed over. No one questioned any of it???

Sevika is just, okay, let's move on like it's another day (granted, Zaunites are probably predisposed to be like that, but that doesn't make for good storytelling if you're not letting the audience in on anything), and chatting it up with Jinx as if they just bonded. I didn't feel that happen. I like that they low-key ripped into him post mortem, because that feels natural but what got them in that room together DOESN'T.

I want to know how these characters FEEL. You got that in spades during S1. But S2 is just expecting you to assume or they would attempt to take the time to use what would be great writing and evolving these characters.

Caitlin is hurting, I get it. But she went full Commando Psycho mode. Girl, everyone has lost parents, siblings, etc... She doesn't even flinch when Vi tells her Enforcers killed BOTH her parents. She's lost a beloved sister... but Cait is affronted when Vi shirks from becoming an Enforcer. Let's just forget what PIltover did to Zaun for generations and to LOADS of people.

Vi? Oh girl. What happened to you?

Jinx is a bit better but not much. I don't buy Silco's death was a zap to the brain to chill her out a bit. She's still my Chaos Queen but unless there is something to explain some shit in the following episodes, I'm going to be really ticked at the lack of care in characterizations with who are the supposed leads in this story.

Jesus Viktor. That's it. That's all I got.

Well, I did LOL when he woke up and gave Jayce the "bye Felicia" in 2.2 seconds.

We don't get to know what Ekko is thinking since all this shit went down? As far as he knows, Jinx is dead and to learn to she bombed Piltover?

The music videos substituting for the plot are REALLY bugging me. It's lazy writing. The music was used well in S1 to ENHANCE the scene (well, except for giving Imagine Dragons an animated cameo). Here, it's used as exposition, but it's not nearly good enough.

Useless characters and side-characters. Poorly executed plot devices. Uninteresting plot devices and trying to use the S1 parallels for characterizations.

S1 took time to introduce and flesh out these characters, even the side-characters.

We only had Vander for 3 episodes but he was a HUGE character. Marcus, Mylo, Claggor, Benzo, Grayson, Finn.... all were interesting and played an important part.

Jayce continues to be blah. So I'm not bothered.

Ambessa looks to be the new villain but it's not hitting with me. Plus, there's zero foreshadowing on some stuff in her arc that would have been useful last season.

I like Mel but I'm waiting to see what happens with her.

Hermydingding going all Mission Impossible. Just stop. Does he not give two furry fucks about what happened to his fellow councilmembers and Piltover?

I feel like RIot is trying to shove way too much into one season and sacrificing good story-telling to do it.

I miss the details.

So far, I'm really underwhelmed with this season.

Okay, here are Arcane spoilers for Act 2. I have thoughts on Viktor, as there's been a lot of back and forth over whether what we're seeing is really him or if he is being controlled by the hexcore/arcane. And people are missing the narrative explanations, which seem to make what happened really obvious. And the biggest sign of this is that Viktor has been hallucinating Sky the whole time. The man has clearly lost his marbles.

The show is very clear that Sky is not there physically, but she's also absolutely not there mentally, spiritually, magically, whathaveyou. Her ghost isn't in the hexcore or whatever. There's simply no way.

It's not that we know for sure there are no ghosts in the world of Arcane. It hasn't been proven one way or the other that they exist. All sorts of fantastical things exist in Arcane and maybe ghosts do, too. But we know Sky isn't one because it makes no narrative sense for her to be.

Thematically, all of Arcane has been about people handling grief and loss not just poorly, but destructively. Powder hallucinates the people she's lost as critical voices and behaves erratically and dangerously whenever they do. Both Vander and Silco twist Vi and Powder's mother's dreams of peace into more violence and oppression. Jayce can't deal with the loss of Viktor and uses the hexcore to save him which Viktor specifically told him to destroy. Caitlyn becomes a dictator after her mother's death and uses the ventilation system her mother created against the very people it was intended to help. Ambessa has gone on a rampage for her dead son who preferred bloodless subterfuge, and I have a feeling Singed's daughter would approve of all the things her father is trying to do to bring her back, had she ever had the chance to know.

But Viktor, after losing Sky and her dreams, just kind of gets her back, and fulfills them? Yeah, no, I'm calling bullshit. Viktor is not going to be the only one exempt from the Arcane pain train. This would be bad writing.

Sky isn't a ghost here. She's gone. The version of her in the hexcore is purely a product of Viktor's imagination. We don't see Sky a lot, but what little we do, she's different, much more confident. It's not her. Viktor is handling his loss badly, too, but his method of doing so is just wholesale denying that it happened. Sky isn't dead, she's right there. Her dreams aren't gone, they're perfectly within reach. It doesn't matter if he dies now because he's succeeded in his goals of helping people. The sick are healed, the hungry are fed. The commune is thriving. Everything is great.

With whatever power he gained from the hexcore, he's able to project this denial onto the real world, at least for a little while. Everything in his little bubble DOES seem great, but the cracks in the facade come early. When Salo talks to Jayce in the overflow chamber, Jayce's breath condenses, while Salo's does not, implying that he's not breathing. Also, Salo's turnover at the commune is disturbingly quick -- his original personality just does not seem to be there anymore, despite his insistence otherwise. The "no weapons" rule, while idealistic, cannot realistically be enforced -- as much as Viktor denied, reality was going to come crashing in and he was going to be unprepared for it, because he just decided he didn't have to be. Huck didn't even seem afraid at all denying a heavily armed warlord and her contingent entry without disarming first when literally his only character trait has been being cowardly. There's nothing in him anymore.

So, is Viktor being mind controlled, or is this the same Viktor we've known the whole time? Well, it's not really either. This is Viktor snapping and having a mental breakdown. This is Viktor's equivalent of Jinx's tea party at the end of season 1, except he has far more power to make it last longer, seem nicer, and drag far more people into it. Probably, the hexcore is taking advantage of Viktor's vision to build its hivemind, but the vision itself is all Viktor.

So, given all this, my prediction is: Viktor will be salvaged and revived by Singed. He will get a reality check, that Sky is really gone, that the people he healed are hollowed-out husks, that the peace he created was too fragile to last -- and he won't care, he will try to get it back by any means necessary, even if he doesn't have the arcane abilities or ability to completely deny reality that he used to have. And this will create a bitter person, similar to the character we know as the Machine Herald from League of Legends.

Silco and Jinx were never weird

I saw yet another tik tok calling Silco a pdf file for his interactions with Jinx, so I need to rant and defend my favourite mentally ill daddy/daughter duo, so spoilers ahead

END OF ACT 1

At the end of act 1 we see Silco and Powder in very similar postions. They have both just lost a sibling in the worst ways imaginable (to them, at the time). They obviously feel very differently about these losses, it was always in Silco's plans for Vander to die, but all the emotions from when Vander turned his back on their dreams had resurfaced while he was talking to Vander, whereas Powder had just tried to prove herself to her big sister and instead of being proud, Vi was angry, and told her that Milo was right, that she was a Jinx. So, when Silco accepts Powder's hug and even reciprocates, it does make some sort of sense. Not to us, and not to the people around them, but Powder and Silco are feeling very similar emotions, anger, confusion, betrayal, ect. Silco sees these emotions in Powder, and takes her in. We don't get to see much of their relationship here since this is the very beginning of the relationship, but I felt like pointing out the basis of their bond was important.

ACT 2

This is where some people start thinking their relationship is more sexual than it is. This is because of how touchy they are with each other. I'm talking about the scene where Jinx sits on Silco's lap.

Now, two points to get out of the way. 1, plenty of people show physical affection to their fathers this way and similarly, there is nothing wrong with this as long as it never crosses boundaries, and I cannot and will not speak on actual relationships I have no knowledge of, everything I am about to say is within the context of this fictional relationship within this fictional world. 2, Jinx is both Silco's adopted daughter (no blood relation, both of her blood parents are dead) and around 18-19 years old during acts 2 and 3, she is also severely mentally ill. Not in a silly, joking way, she at least has paranoid schizophrenia.

Silco and Jinx's relationship is not a normal father/daughter relationship. It literally never could be. Silco has been extremely traumatised by what happened with Vander and Jinx has devolped severe mental health issues while in Silco's care, while also being traumatised by what happened with Vi. So, instead of the breakdown I did above, I'm just going to point out things to contextualise how touchy Jinx an Silco are to each other, and I'm just going to go as chronologically as I can (I've rewatched this show 3 times, and I am rewatching all Silco and Jinx interactions as I write this)

1x04:

Silco defends Jinx, in the conversation with Sevika after the Firelights fight. Sevika was 100% right, and a cold-hearted leader like Silco would usually agree with what she was saying and punish Jinx accordingly. Instead, he tells Sevika to "not dissapoint him" (do better) and sends her away, before asking for Jinx's side of the story. Not to sound like I have daddy issues, but my dad woudn't even do that for me. (quick little aside bc its on my screen right now - that monkey thing on Silco's desk? Adorable, anyone who claims to not know that Silco was Jinx's dad is clearly not paying enough attention)

Now, the infamous moment. Silco hands his eye-needle-thing to Jinx, and she moves to sit on his lap and wraps a hand around his neck as he leans back (pictures below).

These pictures show just how physically close they are (literally touching) and yes, I can see how this looks weird, trust me, I've seen the fanart (i wish i didn't) BUT that doesn't mean I think that reading is right! For starters, physical closeness doesn't immediately mean sexual or even romantic tension, if this was true, that would ALSO mean that Vi and Jinx have a weird relationship (pictures below)

Woah! Look! Physical closeness! They're even closer than Jinx and Silco! So, it's not the closeness that makes it weird. Maybe it's the actual actions! Vi is just hugging Jinx, whereas Jinx is sitting half on top of Silco. To inject 'medicine' into his eye. I would like to see you do something like that standing away from someone. The two times we see Silco get his injections, Jinx has to lean over him to get it done correctly, and when she rushes it the second time, it hurts him. (another thing this scene is showing us is how much Silco trusts Jinx, who would you let stab you in the eye? Probably someone you consider family, right?) But okay, it could be the dialogue that's got tension right? They're talking about Vi. And then they're talking about Zaun. And then Silco gets stabbed. And then Jinx goes straight back to sitting away from him. They only touch for a matter of SECONDS (about 10ish seconds, give or take since we don't actually see when Jinx moves away again) though in word it could be longer because of the glitch effect we get when Jinx talks about Vi, but it's not like Jinx was sat on Silco's lap for half an hour. She only moved to touch him a) when he asked (by offering the needle) and b) to help him, and moved away as soon as she was finished helping him. The rest of the interaction could either be read as fatherly or condescending, both are true enough ("Take some time" "I don't need it" "Take it anyhow") so this interaction? No tension. None. If you do see sexual tension, you are reaching. All I see is a father/boss trying to comfort his daughter, and then moving on to reprimanding her for her mistakes and essentially grounding her.

Their next interaction, after the bombing. Silco storms in and starts yelling at Jinx until she gives him the hextech crystal and hugs him. I wouldn't even call this interaction very 'fatherly' since Silco barely even hugs Jinx back and just stares at the crystal. This is more Silco the Boss than Silco the Dad. I guess you could say the way Jinx walked before hugging him was a little flirtatious? But that's pretty much how she always moves. I don't have much to say about this one, it's fairly straightforward, at least to me.

1x05

Silco defends Jinx, yet again, this time from Marcus who is trying to demand Jinx getting arrested. Silco is tense and turns down Marcus's idea immeadtly.

Not much happens, they're seperate for the rest of the episode until...

"You're the only one I can trust with this, Jinx."

This honestly is my main point. Jinx is one of three people Silco trusts. (the other two are Sevika and the Doctor, and he moreso trusts that they will listen to him, and he doesn't trust them anywhere as much as he trusts Jinx) Jinx is the one that is trusted with his medicine, and through the show, no one else really touches Silco. What I'm saying is, the man was drowned by his brother and hates the idea of other people touching him, except for Jinx. He obviously sees her as family of some kind, his every action and word screams it. (tiny aside, the look on his face at the end of that scene? my heart shattered. No one could make me hate him after that, he looked so scared and heartbroken.)

The next weird scene also happens this episode. The lake scene, or as I call it, the baptising scene. Silco dips Jinx below the water of the lake he was nearly drowned in, and to do that he holds her hand and holds the back of her head, and leans with her to dip her under water. They get very very close, and without the previous context I could 100% see how people would think this scene is romantic. But with the context of both their relationship and the actual action he's doing? He's baptising his daughter. (pictures below)

I'm not sure if any of you guys have seen an adult baptism, but I have thanks to my religion class, and let me tell you, those priests get REAL close. Not to mention, this is the same lake he nearly died in. Of course he's going to want to be close to make sure she's alright. He doesn't get any closer, the only reason they're that close is because its when Silco is starting to tip her backwards, but while Jinx is still holding herself upright.

(honourable mention moment - Silco in the last scene of this ep is amazing and I commend the animators for being able to show his emotions so clearly.)

This first scene with Jinx doesn't add anything to the relationship with Silco BUT it does contextualise how touchy she is. She hugs this random guy. Sure, it's to plant a glitter bomb to his back and scare him, but still, she doesn't even know his name. Same with the Sevika scene, she's practically on top of Sevika, and then once Sevika tells her about Vi, she pulls Sevika so close that I just know they could smell each other's breaths. Their foreheads are literally touching.

So much happens this episode thanks to Silco and Jinx both finding out about Vi, but there are 2 things I want to note, 1, Silco praises Jinx to Vi, just. I wish MY dad did that. 2, this is the big shift away from Powder (Vi) to Jinx (Silco).

This is where the show stops going for subtext. Sevika compares her relationship with her dad to Jinx and Silco. THAT IS TEXT.

Anyways, the next big scene. The second injection.

I saw someone seriously try to say they never thought Silco and Jinx were family. Did you just, not watch the show? "Oh she's sitting on his lap again." Yeah she's also stabbed him in the face twice and in the neck once. Does that scream sexual tension to you?

Okay, so, Silco kisses Jinx this episode. On the forehead, while she's on her deathbed. He kissed her the same way I kiss my nephew goodnight. I cannot stress enough, I am a Jegulus shipper and even I am not seeing romantic or sexual tension and he actually just kissed her.

"I, too, once had a daughter" again. A character comparing their father/daughter relationship to Silco and Jinx.

Circling back to the trust thing, he is literally putting his life in Sevika's hands, she can chose to be loyal to him or to join Finn, and he knows that the choice is hers. Look at how he acts after she swings her sword. He is hyperventilating. He sat still and patient while Jinx literally stabbed him with that needle thing, but when Sevika had the choice between a gutsy kid or her longtime boss he feared for his life. Sure, he pulls himself together, but that was pure PANIC

Anyways, big moment here.

"You're my daughter." Silco to Jinx, moments before disaster. If you manage to watch that and still look back and think "The writers were trying to communicate that there was a sexual relationship between them." you are a child left behind.

To sum my points up + stuff that doesn't really have a nice spot to put it:

Silco and Jinx are the only people they truly trust. Silco hates being touched and Jinx is a very tactile person, she is also consistently the only person that touches Silco.

This relationship isn't normal or healthy, it's co-dependent asf but it's also 100% platonic and never once moves towards sexual or romantic

This is dedicated to the people that think their relationship is gross, not to the shippers. The shippers are already too far gone.

Watching the whole show through only Jinx and/or Silco scenes is still cohesive and you don't see Jayce until the very end, 10/10 for the writers

I've been trying to put my thoughts into better order on this before writing meta about it, but you're getting stream of consciousness.

Silco's speech about drowning - while almost certainly wholly inaccurate to the experience of drowning - is important foreshadowing for a lot of season 2 and Jinx and Viktor's role as people caught uneasily between life and death. Between desiring life and death.

Ever wondered what it’s like to drown? Story of opposites. There’s peace in water. Like it’s holding you, whispering in low tones to let it in. And every problem in the world will fade away. But then, there’s this thing… in your head, and it’s raging. Lighting every nerve with madness. To fight. To survive. And all the while this question lingers before you: `Have you had enough?` It’s funny. You could pass a lifetime without ever facing a choice like that. But it changes you forever. For that, I thank you...Old friend.

For Silco it's mostly a single event, although it's also a formative trauma that haunts him. But we don't see him suicidal. He wasn't suicidal to begin with, he was being murdered, and the temptation was to let that happen when the person he loved wanted him dead and life seemed to be nothing but struggle.

Jinx inherits that trauma partly from Silco, who sees it as a form of strength as much as damage, and deliberately tries to impart it to her. His own vicious determination to live is what came out of it, and he thinks it will be the same for her.

But for Jinx, tormented by mental illness and the fact that her own trauma left her with the guilty belief everyone would be better off if she was dead, the choice remains much closer to the surface. We see it on the bridge when she nearly kills herself to kill Ekko - and is revived by Silco's inability to let her go and Singed's willingness to use anyone as an experiment in surpassing death. After Isha's death it takes hold of her completely. She can't imagine life as anything but suffering, death is peace, but some part of her still doesn't want to die. It's... uh. Okay. I think Jinx's survival was deliberately hinted at. I also think if that's what the writers were going for they should have made it a lot more obvious? Because as things stand, the most straightforward reading comes down on the side of suicide. Which is weird! And Viktor's section is going to make it weirder! But if you do take Jinx as surviving then ultimately she makes a choice that is not quite Silco's. To leave behind the things that are causing her pain - as much as she can - without dying. Her mental illness and guilt will always be with her, but Zaun and Piltover and all that their divide has done to her is something she can walk away from.

For Viktor it's a different kind of trauma. He's less. Hmm. Scrappy? Than our other Zaunites, not someone who seems like he's had to fight to survive so much. But he's in very literal pain for his entire life and on top of that he's very, very lonely, caught between Zaun and Piltover and unable to belong in either. Also, he has his own guilt, which the saviour era makes a lot clearer, that he hates himself for leaving people like him behind when he left the undercity. The dream the hexcore is using to control him is one of being able to go back and fix everything, prove he didn't just leave to save himself.

(And the tragedy of the Mage, of the older Viktor, is that ultimately his struggle with guilt and isolation has doomed him to an eternity of both.)

But a lot of what gets fucked up about Viktor's intentions seems to be that inability to imagine life without pain. He doesn't want to die, but neither can he find anything about living that he wants. (Except Jayce, who was the only person he ever belonged with, the only place he wasn't lonely.) His final transformation is heralded with a song that seems to be about someone on their deathbed, about giving in more than a struggle for life. But at the same time he is struggling to live, destroying others in the process.

It's a negation, a constant negation.

Bodies hurt. The Herald seems less like Viktor's perfect body in the end and more like a mask, like Viktor can be confident in it because it isn't him, because he doesn't have a body. I mean, it's thematically treated like a mask for sure.

Emotions hurt. All the philosophy is just a cover for heartbreak.

Divisions hurt. Of course someone who got caught between the undercity and Piltover would want to destroy distinctions between people. Of course someone who was othered for his disability would want everyone to be the same. Doesn't that fix the problem?

But negating everything about life is just death by another name.

But then what does it mean that this increasing self-destruction (spilling out onto everyone around him through a compassionate desire for them not to have to suffer either) has to end in a literal death? And what does it mean that Jayce dies too?

By that point it actually does feel like the only kindness left for Viktor is to not be forced to die alone. He could barely handle Sky's death, there's not really any hope that he could live with what he's done without it being torture for him.

But thematically what does it mean?

Would him falling in love(or in obsession with such person) differ from courtship of his “fancies” and “assets”?

When he understands that he’s sinking to the bottom of his own play? Will he notice it at all? Will he get terrified and try to trick himself into believing that its’ the person ill intention? And in what circumstances he might surrender to that feeling belly-up(or meet it with bared teeth and a fight, from the other perspective)?

I'm trying my best to write these characters with every tiny scrap of humanity I can find in them. So I'm truly glad that comes across in Silco's portrayal c:

Silco and love is such a fascinating subject, and one I hope to explore as FnF goes on. Canon already abundantly establishes that he has the capacity for it, but also that he tends to elude the gravity of the bond until he finds himself in the position where he needs to confront his feelings head-on. It's also plain that love, far from redeeming him, has the power to utterly destroy him.

I will say that, for Silco in FnF, familial/parental love always takes precedence over romantic love. He's one of those people who tends to pour themselves into the sanctity of a cause, and while that cause starts off as Zaun, by the end, it's Jinx. She is the culmination of everything he's fought for, and for her to succeed as the future he's always envisioned, he will gladly walk into that good night with a smile on his lips and a heart unburdened by regret.

Similarly, his feelings for a true romantic partner - one he doesn't simply view through the omnipresent lens of acquisition, control and conquest - are on par with that. A sort of unconditional surrender -but also one that can be terrifying, and leave him in the empty cradle of a river of blood. There's a deeply erotic and self-destructive root to the nature of how Silco loves. It's part of why his relationship with Vander was so intense, as for him, the true sexual release was in the idea of his own destruction, not as an act of martyrdom but resurrection.

For him, love is a revolution: one that burns all bridges, and yet leaves the way clear for the dawning of a new and brighter day.

So in a nutshell: Silco loves the ones he can't live without. And, more often than not, it kills him in the process.

In FnF, when the time does come for him to fall in love, it will be the same way he's thrown himself into Zaun's rebirth: utterly, irrevocably, and without a trace of doubt.

But he's not going to be aware of it until the lightning-bolt strikes, at least not consciously. I will also say that he's going to fall in love with a lot of different people during his journey in FnF, some more profound than others, but each will teach him how to be more human, even if it's simply the lesson of learning how to be hurt.

Part of his evolution in FnF is him learning how to transcend that one-and-done version of love he had with Vander, which delimited his ability to feel any other kind, and ultimately crippled his capacity to form more lasting relationships post-drowning, due to trauma and a survival mindset.

Another part of his evolution - beyond confronting love as a force of nature "with bared teeth" as you wonderfully put it - is coming down to the level of the mundane, and finding god in the simplicity of a shared life: someone who pours him his morning coffee, a stray eyelash plucked away by a finger, a hand resting on his shoulder during a lull in a firefight.

All of those are little pieces of love that come together to create the mosaic. Silco's spent a lifetime prepared to rush into the fire, rather than content to watch the sunrise from the shore. And the crux of his endgame in FnF is learning how to reestablish that balance.

tl;dr: for Silco to fall in love, he needs to remember how to live again <3

a couple of thoughts abt representation tm in arcane particularly for disability in season 2

with the disclaimer i spent most of this season sobbing too hard to take in what was going on and i have not rewatched season 1 since it dropped. so i honestly could be off with a lot of this and admittedly some is more reaching on things that don't matter much.

anyway i was a littel disappointed with a few things.

1. the speech to viktor about how he was always trying to fix things jayce never saw as broken. that's sweet! and i get the sentiment. and honestly if viktor had grown up in an accessible society it probably would've hit differently... but viktor is disabled in ways that are understandable to want to "fix" partICULARLY when he was like... actively dying from health issues if i'm remembering right? the reality just is that if i could fix some of my issues i would. it doesn't make me as a person broken, and maybe that's what jayce was getting at--that viktor maybe couldn't focus enough on his own strengths, and maybe in the past viktor had been told that he had no worth due to his physical health and that was a motivator idk. but to me it kiiiinda missed the mark because... viktor's body was still something that made him struggle in ways it was understandable to want to improve on from his own perspective and it isn't rly wrong to want to do that to an extent lol. ig he just went overboard.

2. idk how jinx's psychosis works but it felt a little less thought out this season. was it trauma induced? is it genetic schizophrenia or something similar? it does seem like her hallucinations pop up during times of stress consistently or when thinking about her traumas which... she is surrounded by. but i feel we got less of them in season 2 maybe. maybe that makes sense because i imagine less stress would improve those symptoms to an extent during the happier moments. it just felt a little less present than in season 1, and we never seemed to get ANY obvious symptoms demonstrated in the AU episode. she did still suffer trauma there so i imagine if it wasn't genetic she would still have some issues, though maybe not as severe. and y'know, things were going better so again less stress = less severe symptoms or the bridged societies meant she could get effective treatment. and generally her symptoms weren't as relevant i guess in some ways. there were so many timeskips it's not like she couldn't have been struggling off screen. just confused about it, and probably would not even BE thinking about this in all honesty had the writers not had vi call jinx a psycho. what was that writing choice. ableist weirdness aside i feel like that isn't even really a word it makes sense for arcane to have in some ways ???????

3. ishaaaaaaaaa. i initially thought she was mute but it seems like she might be deaf too if you read into some things like looking at lips. she did actually have some good personality traits and such so i don't feel like she was totally plot devicey, but unfortunate that she died as the deaf/mute character. i do wonder if her not speaking was almost a device for jinx to be able to project onto her more or something but i do choose to take it as thoughtful representation.

4. i guess there is maybe something to be said about salo and others getting magically healed by viktor but again as a person with some pretty difficult health issues i would also go to a weird culty healer if i had the chance lol, just something that came to mind. and maybe this is part of jayce's speech since viktor's drive to heal the world tm maybe went overboard.

ANYWAY it is not all inherently bad and there is balance: we left off with cait missing an eye and we still have sevika who's an amputee, so it isn't like... a total case of "fuck the disabled characters in particular." and of course with the limited runtime and resources i can't fault the writers too bad for shortcuts to hit the right plot beats. compared to the care season 1 was able to get with some of this stuff tho it just was a noticeable difference to me.

what r ur thoughts about mel in general

mel is so mother, not in a bland girlboss way that people assign female characters they don't actually care about but don't want to be sexist but in a way that I imagine she could inflict emotional violence on me I would think about for decades and also in a gay way because she serves ultimate cunt. I don't like the two ends of the spectrum she gets though, it's either people thinking she is only an evil capitalist manipulator (she is a capitalist but let's not talk about arcanes class worldbuilding issues again lmao) or that she only ever had pure intentions - she did manipulate jayce, she absolutely did work her charm and found cracks in him she could dig her fingers in to make him work the way she wanted and THEN realised she genuinely cares for him. and I love that, I love that she likes a man who is stupider than her and then gets charmed by how earnest he is in his dumbassery

mels issue is fandom is that she's a black woman and people are racist djdjdjkdk and she's attached to a storyline and a man that is largely taken over in fandom landscape by a slash ship so she's always gonna lose, the fact that meljay is a rareship slays me dhsjjs and also her storyline starts kind of late in the season, like it doesn't really kick off until ambessa shows up and by then you have viktor committing unethical experiments and dying and the whole zaun storyline unfolding and everything surrounding jinx-silco-vi triangle is just so enrapturing in its insanity mel stood no chance

but ngl her storyline with ambessa has me gagged, I like gasped when ambessa went BECAUSE YOU WEAKENED ME like the way mel this whole time thought she just didn't live up to ambessas standard and then the realisation that ambessa felt like mel was putting her up to a standard she couldn't live up to and didn't want to accept and that the values she thought she couldn't embody that ambessa did are the reason she was exiled aaaaaaaaa. I hope they get more spotlight next season and noxus becomes more relevant because you see a set number of ways mother daughter relationships are portrayed in media and its rare that there's this sort of violence and strong mindedness present in them the way it often is in father son relationships. I love that mels arc is her rejecting her motherland and their values and building something for herself (like her taking off her family ring and voting for jayces peace treaty even tho the treaty was fucking stupid... jayce is real for that dumb idea just so we could get mels cunt moment and silcos mother coded sophies choice arc)

also there's mels brother who we don't know much about, we know that he was important to mel because duh he's her brother but also she looked up to him in some way. but because arcane moves so fast with its plot she doesn't even get a moment to grieve him

I don't write mel fics a lot tho, just because mel is somewhat smarter than me and that becomes an issue when she has to be written by me, a dumbass. and i cant combat that unlike with another character like with silco who is somewhat smarter than me but he is also extremely delusional and I can balance these out to make it work. acc maybe I need to figure out how to make her more delusional

How often are Neurodivergent (mostly Autism/ADHD) people accused or mistook for being drunk/high?

CW: mention and jesting of alcohol, drinking, drunkeness, drugs, high, sober, intoxication, spiking drinks, how many more synonyms can I gather?

Abstract: An observation on my own behaviour and a couple other people's behaviours that gets conflated with inebriation/intoxication.

A thought came to me post-event; one night my cousins decided for a get-together with drinks. I was not drinking because my period suddenly came and I took painkillers. Everybody in the room knew. However, I randomly asked, “Can you keep a chicken in an apartment?”

In my head, it made sense since we’re in an apartment right now and I have chickens so put these two things together… Everyone except my sister thought it was weird and joked I’m already drunk, someone spiked my water, I’m going to black out, bla bla bla, cliché.

I thought about this the next morning. I am not diagnosed with anything but my (current, as I write this but let’s not jinx anything) partner was diagnosed with ADD as a kid. He recognized the same signs he has with me and we both recognized I have something. I could get myself diagnosed, but my dad thinks I don’t have anything because he only knows the obvious stereotypes of ADHD/Autism/neurodivergence. (Although I think he doesn't know the difference between them and thinks ADHD is the same as autism.) Let’s digress.

I thought about that one time Eurovision Norway participant TIX had to select his position for the show (1st half or 2nd half), and there’s a live stream with chat but I can’t find the video. One of the hosts has her hand inside the bowl and TIX was supposed to say stop or something like that, I can’t remember. Throughout the whole time he was there, he showed the same behaviour I recognized in myself, Ethan Nestor from CrankGamePlays, and Mark Fischbach from Markiplier (those were my only references off the top of my head at the time). Unfortunately, what is a singer without haters, especially he won Melodi Grand Prix 🇳🇴 and defeated the fan favourite KEiiNO — the chat overflowed with “wow he’s such a weirdo” and “get him offstage, he’s drunk” and “is he high right now?” and such. This hurts when he stated multiple times in interviews about his Tourette’s and ADHD. He named himself TIX for a reason.

So I pulled up a Go0gle and searched “autism or adhd accused of being drunk?” I mostly found medical or psychology stuff on how someone with autism is prone to alcoholism and similar. I found one article on someone mistaken to be drunk and arrested for it. Link below.

I didn’t find much else on Youtube. Maybe it’s my weak key words and searching. I don’t know but can anybody else provide their own input? Has anybody done a study on this?

PS. Slightly off topic, but there was one year, one time, I said I was overstimulated and two other cousins in the room laughed and said something about what substances I took or not (everybody knew I didn't take anything). Don't remember the words but remembered them laughing and not taking any effort to change the setting. That was years ago, at least two. A few years later, Christmas season of 2023, those two cousins and a couple other cousins mentioned getting overstimulated. I don't know if they got better in the timespan or if the situation was dramatically different. The case here was, imagine your typical family gathering but it's immigrant parents so there's more than three aunts and uncles each, and everybody's default volume is 50 instead of 15. Smaller space without windows. The case then was less people, exactly or roundabout three aunts and uncles, bigger space with a glass door.

The age regression sequence in The Last is solely at fault for my Age Difference obsession. Sometimes it's something I see, for example, "be the end of me" is only because I saw an Asian female customer with super long hair but most of it was bleached blonde. Or "Handsy" is because I saw yoga equipment. My brain just handles the rest. I get hit with a semitruck of narrative and it's a WIP! Soaking up online discussion or other people's fics help too. Sometimes I'll jinx myself in reverse and tell someone "I'm stuck, I don't know how to handle this part, it's sooo boring", and then something hits me after and it's kind of embarrassing because I have to tell them "Nevermind" and ugh. 😅 Songs, too ofc! Only the WIPs inside my mind, lol. 🤭 I honestly don't have anything I've written that I'm too scared to post. And so far, I still haven't properly shared the entirety of "Kotatsu" something-something. It was a flash in the pan kind of thing and I just lost all motivation to clean it up. 😅

Alright so my head (because it over thinks everything) went to two places here. One was posts that are all "here's aesthetics that I associate with my muse/make me think of my muse", and the other was RP posts with a bunch of formatting to make it all aesthetic.

1: Posts that are about aesthetics associated with your muse. I like these. Pure, and simple. I do think sometimes people post a bit too much of them and it makes it hard to see their actual writing. With that said I adore seeing what people associate with their muse, and I think it can actually give a good look into how people see their muse. You can get an idea of what's important to their portrayal. Like me I've reblogged straight razors and knives before for Silco because those are important things for him, and I've reblogged street art stuff before for Jinx because that's important for her. With that said I don't normally see fan art as "aesthetics" despite loving fan art because that's just... that's your muse. It doesn't represent something about them, and it's not something associated with them. It just, is them. I do still love fan art I just don't see it in the same way.

Honestly though make those aesthetics posts! Let's see what your muse enjoys, or what type of clothing they'd wear, or music they'd listen to, or pictures that make you think of them, or items they'd like, or whatever else. Give us a view of your muse that doesn't always easily show up except in those posts. Writing is beautiful, but aesthetic posts can give people something to imagine alongside the writing. So do your thing.

2: RP writing post in a thread with a lot of formatting for aesthetic

So first of all I and this should be obvious from my writing of Jinx appreciate a certain degree of formatting. Particularly when it is consistent and makes sense. I have a habit of using italics to emphasize things, and no I will not stop. I've started using crossed out text more or less as a way to indicate subtext or to indicate something that (on some level) is true but the muse in question doesn't want to admit to themselves, and the like. So I am in no way shape or form against formatting.

Now with that said...

There is a level for formatting that IMO comes off as purely for aesthetic, and when it's taken too far I'm just not going to follow you. Now if it makes you happy awesome you do you. However to me it makes it more difficult to read, and doesn't actually add anything to the story/thread/writing at all. If anything it takes away from the writing because I'm having to figure out how to read and interpret it. I'm not going to toss out examples, but I will say that if I follow you than your formatting is not at that point IMO.

So in short there's degrees of formatting, and if you take it too far for my taste than it's just too much for me and I'll respectfully see myself out while wishing you the best.

mhm, I think for Jinx interpersonal relationships definitely take the highest priority, so whatever enforcer killing she might've wanted to do over the years, she wouldn't have done it if she didn't think she could make it up to Silco afterwards. I think that's why both sets of killings (the lab and the bridge) are related to her getting the hexgem, even though she probably could have done all of that in a less bloody way. I suspect she chose to do it in a bloody way for cop-hating reasons, but yeah, she clearly only acts in that way when she thinks her relationship with Silco will be able to survive the action

I also draw some of the implication that enforcers are a big part of her story from the Enemy MV, considering those are the enemies she takes down and she's shown to suffer under them regularly as a kid

the interesting thing about Jinx, though, is she doesn't really seem to care about existing on top of the hierarchy of the undercity when it's under Silco's control. she certainly cares about her freedom, and she enjoys being enabled, but this is all more interpersonal than it is a desire to maintain hierarchical property relations. Jinx doesn't have "greed-confused motives." she's romping around in torn-up clothes all day! lol caring primarily about freedom and relationships means any future she imagines isn't necessarily resting on the continued oppression of the rest of Zaun. I'm firmly in the "let's repoliticize Jinx" camp, but I agree she's probably not aware of her ideals, even if her actions suggest she has some

Sevika is really interesting to me because she's (imo) the most ideologically committed character in the show. she's made it clear her loyalty is based primarily around whether or not someone's plan of action will get her closer to her goals. and she defects when Vander puts down the possibility of organizing a mass movement, in the same scene where Jinx/Powder is confident one would work. Ekko of course then reveals that this is because of Vander's deal with Grayson. I think Sevika would be happy enough with a bourgeois revolution, or at least happy enough to see it as a step (there are limits on this, as seen with Finn), but I doubt she's entirely opposed to mass action. it would be interesting to think up a "what-if" about Vander capitulating and agreeing to lead an uprising with her help

but the advantage Vander did not have that Silco was later able to negotiate was the lack of surveillance. Grayson had a deal with him, but it wasn't like the enforcers were functionally out of Zaun, and she certainly didn't answer to Vander. she had almost all the real power in that dynamic, whereas Silco has much more of the real power over Marcus, making a mass movement much more viable

Interestingly, a few pages later in Blood in My Eye, George Jackson writes something that I think makes a pretty good critique of Vander lol

tbf Jackson was not alive in the 30s but I think he has a point lol. Silco is basically manufacturing his own conditions, which is good, but he's not using them to their fullest potential, which he pays for. I guess the real question is the one you raise about Sevika, and if others will also see the rocket as the thing that creates the conditions they need

so not that long ago, I sat down and wrote out some thoughts about why Silco didn't start a mass movement in Zaun and why I think that's lame (while also recognizing it's not all his fault). this is here

but you know what's kinda wild about that? the first person to suggest a mass movement after Vander's rebellion fails is JINX! in the first act, she suggests everyone in the Lanes get together and fight the enforcers and she believes they would win! and Jinx, you're correct! you would win! you're all too important to the system topside has set up for them to crush you all! I wish you had been able to win your new dad over to your position! 😭😭😭

I could write papers on the complexity of Jayce's relationship with Viktor.

I don't think any other relationship is as complex, as co-dependent, as beautiful, as toxic, as entwined with other characters, specifically Jinx, Mel and Heimerdinger. Jinx doesn't even know this relationship exists but she's been affecting them since the day she tossed her first accidental bomb. She created them, and now it seems she's going to end them.

I've talked nonstop about Jayce's trauma. How he was thrown into politics as a pawn that was doomed to fail from the start. Manipulated, trapped and pulled every which way by nearly every single character because he's so stupid and naïve.

But when you look at it from Viktor's perspective it's easy to see why people hate Jayce.

Viktor's story is that of a lonely scientist with intense social anxiety and an extremely low self esteem. He has lived all of his life as someone else's shadow. People don't even know or remember his name. Think about it. How many people call Viktor by name?

I can count.

There's Jayce.

There's Heimerdinger.

There's Sky.

That is three people in the entire Arcane verse.

Everyone else calls him assistant or partner, nameless without another name to stand on.

As time goes on even Heimerdinger stops acknowledging his existence. As soon as he finds out Viktor is sick, he so easily let's go. He really only showed up to tell him to give up on his dreams and die. This doesn't mean Heimerdinger doesn't care about Viktor but he's too old and Viktor's really not his first and he won't be his last. He also knows encouraging him to do dangerous things is no good, but damn Heimerdinger.

You gave this boy his name.

Viktor said he came to the topside without a name and Heimerdinger said he picked Viktor up from the undercity. This means not even Viktor's sort of stand in 'lab father' knows his name. He really just recognises him as the cripple.

Heimerdinger doesn't even show up when Viktor gets sent to the hospital. Jayce is the only one at his side when he opens his eyes.

Can you imagine how suffocating it must be to have no identity whatsoever. People love to call out Jayce as someone who stole credit for Viktor's work without realising the reason Viktor is slowly going insane is because it is in fact NOT his work. It's Jayce's idea, Jayce's plan, Jayce's dream, and no matter how many times Jayce says "Our", Viktor still knows that it's originality comes from Jayce.

For the first few years their relationship is stable because Jayce is there to constantly to remind Viktor that he's important and keep pushing him to go on. Jayce is the first person to see him and even acknowledge him as superior (because Jayce also has a sort of inferiority complex). It fills Viktor with life, because for the first time in his entire existence he feels needed.

And then Mel comes out of nowhere and snatches that away.

She makes Jayce a politician, which suffocates Jayce with work. So much work that he can barely find time to be in the lab anymore. But then he does find time and that sincerely impresses me about Jayce.

The second he has any form of free time he's spending it with Viktor. He's asking about his health. He's trying to see if he's okay, but he's also so easily manipulated that before he knows it he's back before Mel.

I can see Jayce struggling and fighting and drowning, doing everything possible to be there for Viktor in every way that he can.

But what Viktor sees is a friend who keeps leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back on constant repeat. There is no knowing when Jayce will leave and when he will come back. That sort of uncertainty starts to cause a dent in their relationship. Especially when Jayce can't even remember that Viktor is from the undercity.

Because now Viktor isn't scared of dying without Jayce, he's scared that Jayce won't even remember him, and that one thought destroys him more than anything.

Viktor starts attempting to take big steps on his own. He starts doing more. Becomes reckless. Stops sleeping, stops eating, starts going mad. He wants to create something independent of Jayce. He wants to live. He wants to be remembered. He's tired of being nothing more than a shadow.

And in the process of struggling and risking, Sky gets hurt.

Now I always wondered, why Sky getting hurt is what stopped Viktor, because everything in Arcane is significant. And he clearly never once saw her before.

And THAT IS EXACTLY THE REASON.

Because Sky was also invisible 🥺 And he made that permanent. He became the very thing that he was terrified of, at the exact same time that Jayce did.

When Jayce hurt that little kid from the Undercity it was like he'd just hurt Viktor. The very life that he was trying to protect. He'd tormented himself on and on about his technology being used to hurt people and went and did the exact thing he was scared of others doing. That ended things for Jayce.

The same way Sky ended things for Viktor.

No one.... remembered her. Not even Jayce.

It was terrible. Viktor broke down.

He'd never seen her once. The entire time she'd been right there. A shadow, and he'd ended her.

And he realised in that moment that being remembered didn't matter if this was the kind of memory he became.

He and Jayce choose to give up at the same time.

Jayce decided to end his politician career to give it all up and return to Viktor's side. Viktor gives up trying to achieve his break through and choses to live the rest of his life as a shadow, whether or not he's remembered by Jayce.

It is a difficult decision.

They both even seem to decide to shut down the lab. They are absolutely done.

They pushed so far and hit rock bottom hard, and then had the common sense to give up.

Which is impressive because a lot of people would have made excuses to keep going. But Jayce and Viktor didn't do that. They stop.

They chose peace. It's hard but they chose peace. No matter how much it destroys them both thinking of what this peace will cost they chose it.

Viktor struggling so hard to hold on to sanity because he doesn't want to ever hurt Jayce.

They chose peace 🥺

And Jinx throws it all out the window.

Jinx really goes "The mental asylum has room for two more."
