One thing that really startles me every time when I think about the Marauders and other characters from that period is age...

Like, not only during the time they were at Hogwarts but after that, until the time each of them dies, they weren't even 40.

All whose canonical ages we know of died pretty young.

Like, last one to die was Remus at age 38 and tbh, I consider this young too. Especially since wizards live longer than Muggles.

But the fact that James and Lily died at 21 just shocks me sometimes.

Also likee, I know everyone is seen mostly through Harry's eyes but like, characters we see as "adults" like Snape, Remus and Sirius... They're early 30ies. Idk, Snape doesn't give early 30ies vibes at all but that's still pretty young.

And I feel like it's so strange how they're considered adults and people keep judging some of their actions too harshly. Like, they're still extremely young so they're allowed to make mistakes, be impulsive, not be as wise as others, etc.

If you put them in the context of young adults, which they kinda are, especially by wizard standards, lots of their actions make so much sense.

I feel like the movies have some influence as there each of them is aged up. But I like to think it was for the sake of them having a bit more time before dying.

— Wolfstar - 7.5/10, I really like it it’s like a wolf howling to the moon but expect to a star, which is strange but beautiful. I’ve heard it sm it’s kinda normal for me idk, it doesn’t strike me that much. ~ Moonstar - 8.5/10, I love this also, I prefer this one tho. This one feels right and just seems more like engaging ig?

— Jily - 8/10, very cute name. Jily is the og name and I love it but.. ~ Flowerpot - 9.5/10 i love this name SM better, it sounds more iconic and rare idk, Flowerpot does different stuff to me. Gives me more love and home-y vides which fit them sm

Since I just started a new James RP account, I’ve decided that I am now gonna list out all my headcanons of James' relationships with Marauders-era characters!

Sirius

They are fucking in love in a way that transcends the labels of "romantic" and "platonic." It's just this indescribable pure LOVE. They are codependent and clingy; they climb into each other's beds at night and cry (usually Sirius into James' bed).

Remus

James was Remus's mum. He spoiled Remus rotten, made sure he was eating, healthy, and sleeping! He was genuinely one of the greatest things ever to happen to Remus. James and Lily used to sneak into Remus's house and stock his pantry with food, no matter how much he refused. They just loved him too much.

Peter

Childhood friends! Peter looks up to James, and James was like the big brother Peter never had (he has an older sister- HC). In turn, Peter was the younger brother James (the only child) always wanted! They are genuinely so sweet. Peter helps keep James in check, and he understands James in just such an intimate way— a way only people who have known each other since birth could (cue Sirius being a bit jelly).

In my own HC (’cause Evan has a lot of different personalities depending on the fic, compared to like Regulus, marlene, and Pandora who are much more consistent), I think Evan is more like Remus in that quiet, snarky demeanor but has a wild streak that Barty brings out. So, I feel like James and Evan would be those types of friends who you might not talk too much but still have that underlying bond and love talking to. The Marauders and their … Hogwarts Houses ? because I think this is a fun little idea :)

(You know how fandoms outside the HP universe will have HP AUs ? And sort the characters into Hogwarts Houses ? This is how I think we would sort The (modern) Marauders, if we weren’t already a HP fandom :D)

James: Hufflepuff. Come on, this one is obvious. Him and all the other Golden Retriever / Himbo Characters to ever exist. That whole James Potter aka The Sun stuff ? Him being kind-hearted and loyal (to his family and friends) ? Hufflepuff.

Sirius: Gryffindor. Him and all the Badass But Kind / Popular Kid Characters. Like him leaving his abusive household ? Brave. Also there’s something about his attitude, posh without the asshole attitude (at least later on) that’s giving chivalrous.

Remus: Ravenclaw. Yes, sometimes he’s given a sort of No Fucks Given attitude, but even then he’s still depicted as smart. Like cigarette in hand or not, he’s almost always enjoying reading. And his most common characterization are Light / Dark Academia vibes for sure.

Peter: Hufflepuff. In Modern AUs there usually isn’t any crazy betrayal happening, so there’s no actual reason for him to be too brave, instead he’s more of a chill and fun guy. Plus, oftentimes James and him are childhood friends, so that would make for fun housemates ig ?

Lily: Ravenclaw. Similar to Remus, she has those Light / Dark Academia Vibes and is often portrayed as this smart and witty character. Plus, specifically in Jily Fics, it makes for great Himbo x Smart Girl Fics. Also, there’s potential for a great Remus x Lily friendship.

Mary: Gryffindor. She’s often portrayed as this very strong and independent character and has a Standing On Business kinda attitude. She’s also usually very confident, especially sexuality / gender wise which fits the vibes and is brave for sure.

Marlene: Hufflepuff. I could also see her being in Gryffindor, because she too is a very brave character in my opinion, but I think she often has a personality similar to James, so this makes more sense to me. Plus: James, Peter and her -> childhood friends and housemates !!!

Dorcas: Slytherin. She has those Cool Badass Character vibes. She knows what she wants and she gets what she wants, like she’s ambitious and clever for sure. I think she’s also usually a rather intimidating character? Plus, Hufflepuff! Marlene x Slytherin! Dorcas Fics.

Pandora: Slytherin. I think her characterization has changed from where she was a sweet / bubbly and eccentric character, to where she’s still that now, but also lowkey insane. Plus those intimidating vibes again -> Slytherin. Also, Pandalily Fics would go hard like this !

Regulus: Ravenclaw. I do think there would be a lot of Slytherin! Regulus Fics, especially for the Black Brothers Drama, but the vibes are too similar to Remus’ and Lily’s for him to not be in Ravenclaw. This would make for a fun trio and good Jegulus / Jegulily for sure.

Barty: Gryffindor. I feel like this is a wild one, like he could be in Slytherin or Ravenclaw as well, but for some reason I think he would be a Bad Boy Gryffindor, and everyone would be confused why he’s there and he’d hate it too, but idk, he sometimes has similar vibes to Sirius …

Evan: Slytherin. Maniac, need I say more? Imagine running into Pandora and him, like they are for sure those twins everyone’s kinda afraid of. Also, I think this would make for some great Rosekiller Fics, as well as a great Regulus, Barty and Evan friendship, like yes.

Watched Avatar the way of water again yesterday (at least partly) as one does and noticed something. There's this scene where Kiri is lying face down in the water just minding her own business watching something in the sand. But then Aonung comes with his 3 friends and starts bullying her, calling her a freak and stuff just because she is not a “real” Na'vi. It just kinda reminded me of the marauders attacking Sev in SWM despite him minding his own business, because he is different. But Kiri actually got “lucky” compared to Sev. Because her 2 brothers come to defend her. And by defending I mean first they try settling it with words (like Lily). But because Aonung and his friends don't stop (and also talk bad about Neteyam+Lo'ak and the rest of their family), they start punching them. And while I obviously don't like physical fights and I also don't want to say that Lily should have punched James (actually she should but not because it would have been the right thing to do but because I would have loved seeing it) but I do think Sev needed a friend like this. Also, what Aonung and his friends did wasn't as bad as what the marauders did (I still am angry at him for what he did but because it was less bad, and he grew more in this one movie than James did in 10 years I at least tolerate him). Like they didn't get physical with Kiri (only her brothers but after Lo'ak punshed Aonung first) or even tried to undress her (considering the Na'vi barely wear any clothing it would have been easy to do so, but I don'tknow how much they actuallycare about covering up).

This scene plus the fact I do think Kiri gives huge Luna and some young Sev vibes, it's actually no surprise she is one of my favourite Avatar characters.

I do appreciate how Liam Gallagher is extremely thick yet incredibly sincere in interviews. My favourite is the one where he finishes an incomprehensible ramble with “now can we all take loads of class A drugs” as it cuts back to the newscast smiling awkwardly.

My own band formation opinion might be unusual but I also like the idea of them being an unusual band! The Beatles had a bass player as one of the frontmen.

I like to think of James as a drummer, because he likes to be LOUD, and he gets to decide how fast or slow the rest of the band will play, which suits him. I like to think that he’d be funky and boisterous.

Sirius is frontman material, so he can be the lead singer. I think he can also subvert the quiet bass player myth and follow James’s lead with some funky plucky bass. A bit like Flea.

Remus, although I must say the sad guitar man thing is very American, I kinda like to do a parallel with George Harrison. He was a very talented lead guitarist, but always outshined by John and Paul, and had most of his ideas rejected. But fun fact: he was the best selling Beatle as a solo artist.

Peter can do rhythm guitar! Every day James and Sirius will ask themselves if they really need him, and Remus will insist that yes, they do, he can’t do it alone. He’d also probably be in charge of making merch, the fanboy that he is.

This would be a band with lots of drum solos. I haven’t thought as far as what they would sound like.

LMAo im gonna be real I mostly posted that interview because I think it's extremely hilarious and I rewatch it all the time. I don't think Sirius would be as idiotic as Liam is there obviously, it's just a certain arrogant nonchalance that he has that I think is Sirius-like.

James as drummer does make sense! I think the only thing for me is that James would want to be front and centre in a flashy way, and inevitably the drummer is kind of hidden by their own instrument in the back. Although, as you say, it could be a non-conventional band. In my "Marauders as a 90s britpop group" dreams though, James would be lead singer. He's just got that Damon Albarn/Jarvis Cocker vibe to him. In a more traditional rock or punk band, though, especially if it was before the britpop era, it would probably be Sirius.

You're right that "sad man with guitar" is kind of an American staple, though let us not forget that David Bowie started out as a sad man with guitar, and there have been others in the British canon! But also controversially I think that Remus would, out of all of them, be the most into American music and be a little bit superior about it. Like I think he'd really enjoy things like Leonard Cohen and Tim Buckley lol. Though I could also see him (sadly) playing keyboard/piano, kind of more of an Eno or a Peter Gabriel.

As for Peter yes lol, he's definitely giving expendable. I also think he'd be the most likely to milk celebrity status for all it's worth, even after the band has broken up. He'd be doing the Liam Payne thing of "releasing a crap song then appearing on random podcasts to talk shit."

sirius likes... birthdays. not his own but everyone else's. like he doesn't like the pressure of his own birthday but he will go so all out when it's anyone else's birthday and like it's because he grew up like that his birthday didn't really matter but he always made sure reg's birthday was good for him and that kinda stuck with him and he always made it fun

reg likes christmas best! to me his birthday is around christmas (part of why sirius always made sure his bday was special bc it would get overshadowed by christmas a lot) but he did like christmas and likes it even more outside of growing up and finding traditions and ways to make it fun and such

if they were american remus would like thanksgiving no i will not elaborate on that point it just feels right. but since they are not american, he like halloween the best but the amount of effort he puts in really depends and varies from year to year but he still likes it even if he looks like he just threw on like a big tshirt with an animal on it

peter also really likes halloween but will go all out every year and decorates like crazy the second stores start having halloween decorations out

marlene loveesssssss her own birthday she is going all out every year themes and everything

lily is also a christmas gal bc it reminds her of good memories of her childhood like her family had such nice christmases and their house was always warm so even if she doesn't always have that now with her family she has it with her friends and it's still warm

mary hmmm i think she likes valentine's day a bit before she has a partner she likes to bring sweets to her friends or like bake cookies and then when she has a partner she goes all out for them
