Summary: Part two to Forbidden Things. Following up on their secret relationship no longer being secret, Steph, Auston, and Mitch start noticing how truly in love the two are

Notes: I am glad people liked the last post :) I currently have a Cole Caufield x pro golfer story and a Luke Hughes social media Au both in the works but when I saw this comment I jumped back to this story. Let me know if you guys are interested in either one of those or idk maybe even a part two for my Nico story.

Steph definitely was the first to see how much Jeremy loved Mackie. She realized it at the family dinner that Mitch invited Jer to. It wasn’t even anything special, just watching how Jeremy interacted with the family, she knew he was the one for Mackie.

“So when Maddie set us up on a blind date, she forgot to mention that Mackie was the Executive chef at the restaurant we were going to.” Jeremy was telling the family how his neighbor who just so happened to be Mackie’s best friend, set the two together, “So we were served cold food ,like it wasn’t super cold, but Mackie definitely wasn’t happy. She excused herself and then went to the back. I could hear her scream ‘I’m on a date with a hot ass guy and you guys can’t do your fucking jobs? What the fuck do I pay you guys for!’ She then came back and acted like the whole restaurant didn’t hear her screaming. Let’s just say, I was ready to propose in that second.”

“Okay you are being a bit dramatic,” Mackie corrects, “You only heard what I said cause we were sat by the kitchen. The whole restaurant didn’t hear me scream.”

“Babe, the hostess looked terrified and the poor girl was on the other side of the restaurant.” Everyone laughs as Mackie gives a little pout, “Aw no need to get all pouty, I thought it was extremely hot. Still do.”

Jeremy pokes Mackie’s neck until she starts laughing.

“You know Jeremy, Mackie had a few boyfriends in high school, and none of them were ever able to hand our girl’s temper.” Mrs. Marner says while holding her husband’s hand and smiling in endearment, “They often called her too bossy and one even told her that her ego was unlady like.”

“Yeah Mitch was not happy when he heard that.” Mackie looks across the table at Mitch, who has been eyeing Jeremy, observing him like a Hawk, “When I came home crying, Mitch drove to the guy’s house and fought him.”

“This guy in a fight? I couldn’t imagine that.” Jeremy laughs and Mackie is surprised to see Mitch also laughing.

“Don’t get to excited bud, I lost that fight.” Mackie and Steph can tell Mitch is still hesitant about Jeremy, but it was a good sign to see the boys laughing together. Well until Mitch notices something.

“What the hell is on your neck?” Through the long day, Mackie never reapplied her makeup on her neck, so the darkest hickey is now visible.

“Would you believe me if I told you it’s a burn mark from my curling iron?” Mitch gives Mackie the angry brother look and she automatically know that mean he doesn’t believe her. Luckily Steph came to the rescue.

“Oh Mitch calm down, you know we were doing that same thing when we were her age.” Steph manages to keep Mitch calm and civil for the rest of the dinner.

At the end of the night as everyone was leaving, the restaurant started to play one of Mackie’s favorite songs. She hides her excitement, but Jeremy notices.

“Dance with me pretty girl.” He holds his hand out.

“Jer we are at a restaurant, we shouldn’t.” Steph is the only who is noticing the interaction, but she can’t help but smile.

“Nobody is going to kick us out for dancing, plus who cares if they do, your restaurant is 10x better anyway.” Mackie takes his hand and they start swaying along to the music. Mackie giggles as Jeremy spins her around and they almost knock over a table. But they don’t care they are in their own world.

In this moment, Steph knew Mackie was right and that Jeremy was her one.

Surprisingly Auston was the next to approve the relationship. And it was a total accident.

It was March, a whole month since All stars, and the Bruins were playing the maple leafs in Toronto.

Mackie had stayed at home in Boston. Jeremy was missing her during the roadie, but he knew after this game they would be at home for a while.

Auston was just walking around the backstage of the arena when he walked past Jeremy on the phone.

“Babe you know you don’t have to call me to get permission to go out with Maddie.” Jeremy says while smiling at his phone.

“Oh I know I just wanted an excuse to talk to you.”

“You are going to be the death of me.” Auston can’t help but eavesdrop. “While I have you here, show me what you are wearing out.”

Auston at first thinks the worst and thought that Jeremy was trying to be controlling, but his worry soon went away.

“Damn baby, you look so good makes me want to bail on the game and fly back home to see you.” Auston fake gags at Jeremy making comments like that to the girl he considers as little sister. “Is that my jacket?”

“Yeah Maddie wouldn’t let me borrow one of hers so I went over to your place and grabbed a jacket.”Austin wasn’t surprised to hear that Mackie had a key to Jeremy’s place.

“I would have let her borrow a jacket if she actually wanted to wear a jacket, not because our old ass neighbor was being a bitch.” An unfamiliar voice that Austin assumes is Maddie comes out of the phone.

“Maddie you said you wouldn’t say anything.” Mackie whines.

“Wait you guys are talking about that cougar that’s been trying to get in my pants since I moved in?” Austin can feel Jeremy get upset even as he hides in the corner, “What did she say?”

“She said, and I quote, you shouldn’t be going out like that when you have a man at home. It makes you look desperate.” Maddie said cause she knew Mackie wouldn’t.

“Fuck her. Mackie you look amazing in anything. If you like how an outfit looks, nobody and I mean nobody shall tell you different. Now take off my jacket and go have fun with Maddie, I’ll be there in the morning to nurse that hang over. And after that I’ll go talk to our neighbor, I’m not letting her get away with disrespecting you.”

That was all Auston needed to hear. He walked away satisfied with the conversation. Before this conversation, Auston didn’t think Jeremy and Mackie’s relationship was serious. Now he knows not only are they serious, but he now had a newfound respect for Jeremy.

At the end of the game, the bruins won 4 to 1. After his shower, Auston set out on a mission to talk to Jeremy. Luckily he finds him as he is heading out of the visitors locker room.

“Hey Swayman.” Jeremy looks up from his phone is surprised to see Auston.

“Oh hey.” Jeremy is a little skeptical, but knowing how important Auston is you Mackie he doesn’t question it.

“So I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but earlier I heard your phone call with Mackie.” He totally meant to eavesdrop but he wouldn’t admit it. “You’re a good man Swayman. And it might take a little more for Mitch to see it, but you really do love Mackie. And I’m glad she has someone like you.”

“Thanks Auston. You mean a lot to Mackie, so your approval is very important to her. And what’s important to Mackie is important to me.” Auston extends his hand out for a hand shake but Jeremy being Jeremy pulls him into a quick hug. “Now I got a plane to catch so I can see my girl.”

“We just finished the game and your already talking about that girl?” Brad Marchand hit Sways back and teases him, “You’re such a simp.”

“I’m a proud simp for Mackie Marner .” Both Auston and Brad laughs as Jeremy rushes out so he can hurry back to his girl.

Mitch by no means hated Jeremy and Mackie’s relationship, but the idea of his little sister dating anyone especially someone on the rival hockey team to his, didn’t sit right with him. But that was until, Jeremy did something that completely changed his perspective.

The maple leafs had just played the Bruins again this time in Boston. The leafs had decided to stay in Boston for a few days before leaving back to Toronto. So Mackie closed her restaurant for the day and decided to host both the leafs and the bruins for dinner. But a few things had gone wrong causing the girl stress.

It was the middle of the day so the staff had plenty of time to prepare everything. During this time, little things happened that all piled up causing Mackie to be on edge. Things such as some dropping knives or someone not following her instructions. She keeps her composure to the best of her abilities, since she doesn’t want to ruin the dinner.

Everyone started to arrive at 6:30 which was 30 minutes before the dinner started. Mackie doesn’t know because she is concentrating on the food. She is so concentrated that her staff even starts to worry about her.

“If you can’t chop it properly I’ll do it myself.” Mackie doesn’t mean to sound rude, but she doesn’t have time to apologize since her brain is currently running 100 miles per hours. She starts to cut veggies as fast as she can but because she is being careless, she cuts her finger. “Fuck, Eric please take over.”

She runs her hand under the sink hoping to stop the bleeding, but the cut was much deeper then she thought.

“Chef are you okay? you should probably get that checked out. It looks pretty deep.” Eric, one of the first chefs Mackie hired, finished chopping and check on Mackie. But as any girl can tell you, when you are trying not to cry and someone asks if you are okay or are you crying, you feel like you need to cry even more.

“it’s just a cut I’ll be fine.” She didn’t mean to raise her voice but her frustration caused her to do so. Jeremy who is talking to Mitch and Auston, hears Mackie and heads to the kitchen in concern not knowing that Mitch was right behind him.

When he entered the kitchen, everyone was working hard, but Mackie was no where in sight.

“After she yelled, she said sorry to me before she grabbed a cloth and ran off to her office.” Eric said standing next to the sink. “I can finish the dinner,but that cut of hers needs attention so could you try and get her out of the office.”

Jeremy quickly thanks Eric before heading to the office.

“Hey pretty girl, you wanna talk?” No response.

“Baby, we’ve talked about this you have to talk to me when you’re upset, we are a team.”

The door to the office opens and reveals a crying Mackie who is holding a bloody towel to her cut.

“I just wanted tonight to be perfect.” Jeremy pulls Mackie into a hug. “But before I got here Maddie and I got into a fight and I tried to ignore it to keep the night perfect, and then little things kept happening and now my stupid finger won’t stop bleeding.”

“Whatever you and Maddie are mad about I’m sure it’s nothing, you two are like sisters.” Jeremy sits Mackie down while looking at her cut. “And everyone out there loves you too, so no matter what you served us we would thinks it’s perfect.”

Mitch (just like Auston) listened in from outside the office to make sure his sister was okay but not to interfere in their moment. (Steph would be so proud)

“I know you are going to try and fight me on this but this cut is really deep. We should get you to a hospital.” Mackie shoots Jer a look of disapproval but before she can voice that disapproval, Jeremy stops her. “I will go get your brother and Auston, then we will carry you to the hospital.”

“Off the ice, I’m faster than all three of you.” Her confidence makes Jeremy smile in adoration.

“Seriously thought I’m no professional but how deep this looks I wouldn’t be surprised if you had nerve damage as well.” Jeremy has seen his fair share of hockey injuries as well has had to deal with his own so that is why this cut was so concerning.

“Could we go out the back door?” Mackie says through tears, “I don’t want Mitchy to see me cry.”

“Anything you want if that means you’ll go to the hospital.” Jeremy goes into Mackie’s purse and grabs a makeup wipe and hands it to her. “I know you’ll be upset if I let you go out with your mascara running so go ahead and wipe off your makeup as I go and tell everyone that you’re okay and where we are going.”

Mackie nods and Jer kisses her forehead before he leaves her office shutting the door behind him. He then sees Mitch.

“She’s alright.” Jeremy says not to relieve Mitch but almost as to relieve himself from his worry.

“I know she is, because she’s in good hands.”Jeremy is surprised when Mitch hugs him. It’s quick but still shocking, “She’s the most stubborn person I know, and that’s saying a lot because we are hockey players, but you are careful and collected with her. You are the one for her.”

Mitch tells Jer that he would handle telling everyone and to call him when the doctors know what’s wrong.

Despite the high stress of the situation, Jeremy couldn’t help but smile the whole time.

Am I The Asshole for comforting my friend’s ex-partner?

People in this story: Me (19M), my friend, Jason (17M), his ex-partner, Leon (16M) [All fake names]

So, my friend Jason recently broke up with Leon, after a year of them being together (like, right after their anniversary). This was honestly a long time coming, as Jason has been venting to me about all these little things that Leon has done (he never visits Jason at work, he rarely buys gifts or pays for dates even though Jason always does, he’s too clingy, etc) so I wasn’t surprised, and I don’t think either Jason or Leon were very surprised either.

Jason is actually very happy he finally ended the relationship, and now that it’s over, he started to open up to me more about things Leon has done. He’s saving the in-depth conversation for when we can talk in person, but he told me there was manipulation and gaslighting going on, I just don’t know how or to what severity. Although, despite this, Jason says he doesn’t really have much ill will against Leon, and while he doesn’t want to remain friends (and now has him blocked on socials), is still fine interacting with him. (Of course, they’re in high school together so they’ll have to interact pretty frequently.)

Leon on the other hand… is pretty torn up. Which is understandable, even if it is his fault Jason broke up with him. He was publicly (but subtly) venting on social media, and Jason told me that during the breakup he was also very visibly upset and talked about thinking he (himself) deserved to die. (Which is… possibly a manipulation tactic, possibly a depressed teenager thing, but most likely a mix of both.)

Now, I’m friends with both of them (it’s hard not to be, since they’re almost always together). I’m closer with Jason and we talk almost every day, but Leon and I are somewhat close as well, so it wasn’t surprising to me when Leon messaged me to talk about the breakup.

Leon send multiple paragraphs venting about the breakup. He basically just told me he feels guilty, and hopeless, and he felt like his efforts in the relationship could only be seen by himself. He also told me he understands and won’t judge if I start to dislike him now that Jason broke up with him, and asked me to take care of Jason now that he won’t be able to.

Some of his message seemed a little manipulative-y? (Like the self-depreciation, he was also somewhat implying he wanted to kill himself…?) Which makes sense with everything Jason told me about him, but I still tried to respond the same way I would respond to any friend who just had a bad breakup, while also throwing a little “I hope you learn and grow from this” in there for good measure.

Because, see, I believe Jason when he says Leon was manipulative and a toxic partner. And I know Leon is probably fishing for sympathy, at least a bit. However… He’s also 16 years old. Which doesn’t make any of Leon’s actions okay, obviously. A 16 year-old should know right from wrong. But I know 16 year olds have a lot of growing up to do, and I don’t think Leon is an irredeemably bad person.

I can’t know for certain if Leon was purposefully acting malicious or if he was just too immature to understand what he did wrong. But either way, I’d feel like a dick telling a 16 year old who sees me as a good friend that I don’t want to hear him vent or I don’t care about his problem because it’s all his fault anyway. So, I just listened, told him I hope he grows from this, and told him to take care of himself and I hope things get better for him.

I’m definitely going to distance myself from him going forward, probably especially when Jason tells me the rest of the details of their relationship, but I figured the breakup is so fresh (happened the day before Leon came to me) I can at least let him vent for now. Break ups do fucking suck, even if it is your fault or you deserved it. So, I don’t know. Jason didn’t seem too bothered with what I said to Leon, but idk. AITA? I hope that all made sense :’)

going through the lestappen tag and seeing all those anons in your inbox with a similar take, something has clearly shifted between charles & max. before they were more, awkward around each other but since last week they are more…blatant and confident in their flirting and interactions. idk what changed, i mean the people leaning towards it being for pr have a point but i don’t see why they’d be doing that being that the championship has been won so it’s like they are fighting for one rn and their teams need to keep things cool to avoid a war. and this effort has been 99% on rbr’s side re-emphasizing that yes they are indeed posting lestappen. also i know maxiel is popular too so they could’ve use that for the engagement not use their main rival team’s no. 1 driver. i mean if it’s for pr also why not use yuki and pierre? i mean pierre was with them for so many years so it would go to show that there was no bad blood. why not max and carlos? they have their moments too and carlos used to be in toro rosso with max. why not max and lando? i mean???what is going on? and no it’s not about ea sports because if it was about just racing, there would be race related activities and teasing. yes, there’s a 70% they have a ea sports collab coming up but this is so much more than that. and no, this ask/unsolicited opinion has been sent with my lestappen rose colored glasses removed. the way charles is looking at max and engaging him is something else entirely. and whatever it is, i’m here for it.

I very much agree with your take on this, anon. Something has definitely shifted between Max and Charles recently, and I firmly believe it’s because they both have wanted it to. Their relationship and their interactions have a whole other vibe to it now than it did a few months ago, and given both their personalities and how they are both definitely mostly in charge of their own brands and how they’re coming across, it appears to be 100% genuine. It’s because they genuinely do like and respect each other, and they enjoy each other's company. That much is clear as day on both their faces whenever they’re in each other's vicinity. The change in their relationship, I believe, is entirely organic and genuine.

Now, as for RBR and Ferrari posting Lestappen content on their social media channels lately? Part of my full-time job includes quite a bit of marketing, and over the years I've garnered quite a bit of knowledge about the topic. And one thing that is very important to remember is that any and all content posted to social media channels belonging to big, famous brands such as Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari is in some way, shape, or form a markering ploy. For those types of brands, there is PR value in just about everything, and the people running those accounts are not idiots. They’ve seen the impact and engagement Lestappen content triggers, and they are absolutely seeing it as an opportunity to profit off of it. But what I do find incredibly interesting about this, though, is that we have no idea why they're doing it. Exactly what their end goal with this type of content is or what it’s building up to, only time will tell. And I, for one, am very excited to see where this will end up going.

about freddie's privacy i remember louis wanted privacy and briana did too (idk if its real maybe i'm mixing up my memories cause its been 10 years) but she kept posting pictures of the baby, she kept fighting with other fans and i don't know how real the tweet to danielle of "you will never be his mother" is, it seems like i'm blaming briana but sometimes she just added more drama, i understand that it was her first baby and she wanted to share it with the world but didn't she see that the world was cruel to her newborn? and i know it's not her fault, she should be free to share whatever she wants about freddie but she literally had haters waiting for anything to attack and here goes my controversial part about louis, i feel like he did nothing real to stop the crazy theories the larries made up about freddie, i know they never listen to him and don't believe what he says but couldn't he and briana file a lawsuit? because they were messing with a minor, I remember I was 15 and I was just starting to use Twitter and it was the day Freddie was born and they were saying horrible things about him and Louis, I have this horrible feeling of saying he’s a baby, what is he going to feel when he’s 10 and sees all the things they said about him? I was 15 and my mind was like why are they saying these bad things about Louis? I remember very well the desperation of trying to write nice things to Louis for the birth of his son, but it was obvious that they were lost among so many malicious comments, but from the moment they saw what they were/are doing, why didn’t they give them a real consequence for their actions? I think we all know that they are never going to stop, no matter how much we tell them that Louis hates them, that he doesn't love them, that he blocks Larries on TW, that he says how much he loves his son, they are never going to stop, what I am saying is perhaps too drastic and I know that these were difficult times for Louis, but these people need to truly understand the consequences of their actions, how horrible people they are for having messed with a minor for almost nine years since before he was born, the ideal thing would be for them to grow up and leave their fantasies behind but they are not going to do that. I'm sorry, I'm not very good at writing in English, I hope you can understand my point.

I don’t think it’s easy to “sue” Larries. The backlash and bad publicity wouldn’t be worth it. Louis would have to prove that a Larrie lied knowingly with intent to harm, which is difficult to do in court (Briana wouldn’t have the money to pay the lawyers anyway).

As I’ve said before, I think that anyone who has used Freddie for publicity has harmed his life, and that includes Freddie’s parents— Louis and Briana— and their respective families. Parading baby Freddie publicly to “prove the Larries wrong” showed poor judgment. Children cannot consent to being used in social media. The risk for consequent psychological harm is almost always uniformly high. Therefore, most celebrities rightly protect their children from public scrutiny.

It was always very clear to me that Briana was posting Freddie in order to gain fame and influence, and that she used Freddie’s parentage to climb the social scene in Hollywood, even at the bottom rungs.

The only thing I will argue is that Freddie’s family should be able to interact with him normally, without hateful comments. He should be able to spend holidays where he wants to. He should be able to go to his father’s concerts whenever he wants to (but Louis can also protect him more by letting him sit backstage or VIP, like the Tomlinsons do). As much as Louis wants a “normal life” for himself, the fact is that no celebrity at his level of fame can live a normal life, and his child needs more protection from the public than other kids. There should be a balance, but the priority should be Freddie’s safety.

You’re right that Larries will never stop. Nothing Louis says or does will discourage them. They would rather destroy him and Freddie before admitting that they’re wrong. At this point, Louis probably should ignore them and try his best to gain other non-1D fans, which means following Harry’s, Niall’s, and Zayn’s examples and blacklist 1D questions and stop covering 1D songs.

I suspect Jeff’s had his eye on Harry for a loooong time since the 1D days, which seems plausible because they’ve been friends for a while. I suspect Jeff whispered in his ear how great a solo career would be, hence a slight shift I picked up on during 1D. I blame Harry entirely for why 1D split up (I’m not angry about it - just my opinion). I think at the time he was young and impressionable and placed all his trust in other people beside himself, which is something I think he struggles with till this day. He reminds me as someone who knows what he wants and is confident up until a point before feeling the need to ask for permission (generally speaking). I think he deals with some attachment issues, plus a sprinkle of anxiety and depression. I worry it might worsen if he doesn’t slow down because he doesn’t seem to have many friends, or rather close friends, that he doesn’t work with and the people he DOES work with seem somewhat fame hungry. I think they care about Harry but not in the way he needs, but of course I could be wrong. Like for example Jeff strikes me at the type to run over right away if Harry falls down to make sure he’s okay, but then say “don’t you want to get back up?” which passive aggressively inserts his own opinion into Harry’s and kind of twists him into believing Jeff’s wants are his own. Does that make sense? It’s just a vibe I get based off of a couple interactions I’ve seen. I think Harry’s team is pushy and manipulative but they don’t realize it fully, and Harry is easily moldeable and also doesn’t entirely realize he might be taken advantage of (although I could also suspect he realizes something is wrong but doesn’t know exactly what). All he’s known is Simon Cowell and Jeffrey Azoff. Jeff prob seemed like God above coming to save him from 1D and now he can’t leave him - aka the attachment issues I mentioned earlier (again my opinion) and Jeff knows it. And I think the other members of Harry’s team are piggybacking and riding the fame train. Harry Styles has become a brand but personally, I’d rather know Harry the person.

In my dream world, and this is going to be controversial, I would love to see Harry open up a little more. Maybe make his Instagram more personal. Post for his mom’s birthday. Talk about how grateful he is for his fans. Share what he’s doing every once in a while. Share some of his feelings about love and places he likes, maybe his favorite recipe or book. I’d also want to see him openly support other artists/people just because and not when it’s convenient for him. I also think he should better communicate with his fans. I think the relationship between him and his fans has turned into a relationship between God and her followers, which it shouldn’t be. It seems unhealthy and I fully believe if he set boundaries and talked about it, we would see a major shift in a positive way. I would also like to see him promote his OWN things, such as Pleasing, Gucci HaHaHa, his own songs or movies. It all comes across as such an impersonal money thing sometimes and it’s such a turn off for me personally.

I think that ^^ it partially Harry’s decision from not wanting to be on social media that often which is fair, but I also think his team is egging it on. Keeps him “mysterious” and a blank canvas so his fans can idolize him and he can appeal to a larger percentage of people. Pick a category and you can almost always put him in that box if you look at it from that perspective.

Idk if this fully answers the question. Harry’s teams weaknesses, imo, are sprinkled into my response. I just think they want to be big and famous and everything else isn’t as important.

hmm i saw some interesting conversation regarding branded pairs and as someone who is probably more of a fan of my favorite actors personally than professionally, i wanted to chip in.

i think it really is that gmmtv facilitates fans seeing actors as sort of like idols moreso than just actors in a very obvious way. for example, even with shows I’ve loved dearly, i’ve never gotten quite as into the actors as people if it wasn’t facilitated by the company they were signed to.

my favorite bl is japanese and while i became a fan of the main actors as a result, the engagement i had with one of the actors was very much more so simply watching his shows. however one of the other leads was an idol, and as a result I’d do things like watch his variety content and his concert performances.

as someone who has been in both kpop and jpop fandom, i feel as if gmmtv is definitely emulating both in how it promotes its actors, just with more of a shipbaiting tinge to it, and that’s the appeal. you have variety shows to watch, fan meetings, concert performances, social media interactions, etc. and i get why it doesn’t work for a lot of people (it is a very markedly different type of engagement from watching shows, after all) but i see the divide as just what works for whom.

i feel like its both an extension of liking my favorite shows and it feeds into my enjoyment for shows I wouldn’t like as much, just because i have prior emotional investment. for example, i’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be watching cooking crush and cherry magic (neither are really my style) or at least enjoying both as much as I do, if i wasn’t incredibly invested in offgun and taynew. and i don’t see it as much of a problem personally because i am in fact enjoying the ride. liking the actors can elevate an experience for me to be more fun. liking actors gets me to watch more of the non-bl by gmmtv as well (I goddamn love enigma and I would NOT have watched it without a little nudge) of course, that doesn’t mean that a lack of actors i like personally can in any way stop me from watching other shows. i’m not much of a jimmysea fan, but last twilight is a masterpiece.

i dunno, it’s like a different type of fun but one that feeds back into my enjoyment of bl shows. i love watching concerts, looking through different interviews, and otherwise getting to know the guys in my favorite shows.

of course, there are many downsides to the machine, especially with the fanservice and the fan-idol dynamic that can be destructive. i think the current state of ohmnanon is probably the best example of that from gmmtv and shows off a lot of the worst parts of it. crazy, protesting fans. guys who were close who it seems the machine took a negative toll on. it shows off where the problem is with all idolatry, especially when it comes to branded pairs. but i do think at the very least it helps certain people launch themselves up in their careers, and i don’t think the gmmtv bl machine is a problem in and of itself.

idk, totally understand everyone it doesn’t work for, but just wanted to talk a bit about how at the very least, it enriches my experience and makes me more excited for certain shows. i think it can just be a great separate thing as long as fans keep it in moderation irt how parasocial and crazy they get about it (though in many cases fans do not, which i do think is a big problem) really the only downside for me personally is probably feeling kind of bad voting for my favs in this competition, as a pretty big gmmtv 4 pillars fan who also thinks dbk and 2gether were … well let’s just say i don’t think ill be revisiting them very soon. ahaha, anyway. just wanna say i goddamn love my fav actors 🙏

You've brought up some extremely interesting points and nailed them right on the head.

I know we've been talking about this and I just hope what I've said so far hasn't come across as me believing being fans of a certain celebtrity is a bad thing, it's really not. I do that too for some celebrities while still keeping mostly out of the wider fandom.

I think you're absolutely right about GMMTV actively adopting a model that makes it seem like their actors are especially accessible to the public and while I do agree that it can benefit the actors' success in some cases, there are also some mechanics of it that I really don't agree with and wish weren't as popular as they are. Your comparison to the KPop model is also especially fitting because that's exactly what they're emulating and I see this becoming more and more common to the detriment of fandom as a niche.

There are two things in particular I tend to be wary of when speaking about this specific marketing behaviour (because that's ultimately what it is and it's very successful at pulling money into the pockets of actors and performers - which is a good thing - but also into the production house itself - which can go both ways depending on how that reflects on the treatment of the talent):

A) to cite a word that you used, the idolatry that builds around certain figures tends to cloud a lot of fans' perspectives - especially very young ones - as to the fact that celebrities are human beings and they can make mistakes at times. Also, by making them out to be something other than a person, it kind of encourages obsessive and sometimes inappropriate behaviours of possessiveness.

B) this, in turn, feeds the current spread of purity culture toward celebrities that in most cases - especially when it comes to GMMTV - are very young. The results is that even the smallest of mistakes can create a shitstorm big enough to ruin people's careers. I think when talking about OhmNanon, which you very aptly used as an example, part of the whole situation that arose was exactly this. Digging up years-old mistakes and not letting a person grow, especially when so young, can tangibly ruin their future.

Again, I don't think it's a bad thing to like celebrities outside of their works. Sometimes it very much does increase one's appreciation of their art to know the personal context it's coming from and the specific life story behind acting and performing decisions. Unfortunately, with the state of fandom as the huge and more public entity it has become, there would really need to be a wider consciousness of separation between how we feel toward celebrities - down to our most instinctive reactions - and the actual reality that fans might not always be privy to. I believe the majority of fandom (especially outside of Tumblr) is not yet capable of grasping this difference and part of the reason for that is that some production houses encourage such behaviours in the name of money.

I don't know if this is something that I need to say but I'd rather add something unnecessary than cause a misunderstanding. I am, of course, not referring to your specific experience, just continuing a wider conversation about fandom and the ways we approach BL. From the way you describe your own relationship with media and the people who create it, you seem to have struck a really good balance and I'm glad that you sent this message 'cause it gave me a chance to have a deeper conversation about the subject, so thank you for this!

why do a lot of people, both swifties and gaylors who don't believe in kaylor, say that karlie baits kaylors for clout? idk she has been pretty big outside of taylor, and there are like, what, 100 of us? how is karlie profiting from a few kaylors interacting with her social media? for what it's worth, most celebrities' social media aren't active - both in terms of themselves and their fans - but they're still doing pretty fine. and karlie's lines of works and social circles are pretty different from taylor's, right?

I love Bad Omens. I love all of the guys (Noah has my heart though). This is the first I have ever cared enough about a band to try and actually learn about band members and watch all the interviews and things. What is the worst (i.e., lowest paying, poorly compensated based on intensity of work, etc.) way you’ve ever made money? >> begging the government for pennies so I can avoid starving or freezing to death

What is something that a lot of people do that you don’t find the value in? >> a lot of social rituals feel like this for me, like I just don't see the benefit. I don't mean like small talk and shit, I mean like going out to bars and drinking a lot and then feeling like shit the next day but you do it because your friends wanted you to or whatever

Do you ever think about quitting taking surveys? What about just quitting taking them on LJ? >> nah. I mean, I think about it in the abstract, because I've been taking them for literally half my life and that sometimes strikes me as pretty wild, but I know if I haven't gotten bored with the practice by now I probably won't any time soon. I think it would be real neat to be still taking surveys in my 50s, 60s... like, I don't keep diaries well, but I do have these! they serve a similar purpose, I think -- sometimes even better than just open-ended journalling as far as quitting taking them on LJ specifically -- yeah, lol, I was thinkin about that last week in fact. mostly because I am on the fringes community-wise and generally don't get much interaction so there's no real benefit to posting in one place vs another, so I tend to come and go at whim I was gonna just go back to my survey tumblr but I think I'll do the secret third thing and post in both places. I have no actual reasoning for this decision except "fuck it, why not" which is the best reason to do anything

Elayne is still the Green kids’ childhood friend.

She and Aemond are the friends who everyone thinks is dating, but they aren’t

Helaena takes pictures of their interactions/quotes things Elayne mentions with the caption “this is why people think you’re dating my girlfriend“ and sends it to Aemond all the time

Surprisingly, Aemond does have social media, but it is all run by Elayne (another reason people think they are dating)

Whenever they are adults, Aemond just officially hires Elayne as a personal assistant/secretary

The dragons are various pets... Elayne is allergic to all of them

Grover Tully is convinced Elayne is dating/should date Aegon

Aegon has not met the man but would be horrified to know this

Elmo Tully following along with his characterization in From Water to Wine 100% believes that his sister is dating Aemond

The two Tully men get into a weird ship war where Grover is very passionate and Elmo is in the strange position of being adamant he is right but also he doesn’t like Aemond

I feel like in a modern au! Helaena and Elayne hide their relationship more so that they don’t attract the media’s attention to their interactions more than they already do rather than worries about homophobia (we already have that in Westeros, I would prefer to keep it out of the modern au)

I guess I don’t understand why people are hung up on Louis not saying anything about Harry’s win on social media. Harry hasn’t interacted with any of the other boys on his social media since the hiatus anyways. It’s just not that important and feels more like fan service than personal. And before anyone says anything, I believe both Liam and Niall had very nice messages but they also weren’t in the same space as Harry was. I have no doubts Louis and Harry were in arm’s length of each at some point on Sunday night and probably yesterday. That’s what is important. People need to relax and realize support comes in all different forms. Not everything is proof or it didn’t happen.

100%, but tbh I don’t think anyone is looking at this like “if Louis didn’t congratulate him publicly, it means he didn’t privately either and they’re not together”. I think obviously everyone knows he showered Harry with love and support, especially since they were in the same place for once. It just would’ve been nice to see that support, not as a larry thing but just as a 1d thing in general. But the same goes for Harry bc you’re absolutely right that Harry very rarely publicly shows support to the boys as well, cheers to his image. Idk, maybe some 15 year olds see this as “oh if they don’t say anything on sm, it means they don’t care about each other” but I think most people realize that’s bs lol
