YES! After the massacre, Houhua basically becomes Sasuke's officially unofficial guardian. There's no real paperwork for it done, but like, they really only have eachother

Sasuke flocks to him as the only other Uchiha, and Houhua takes him in both out of pity + not wanting him to be alone, and also partially because he knows Sasuke is a main character and his survival heavily depends on sticking close to main characters in the hopes that it'll help bump his character importance points

Houhua and Sasuke are stupidly rich now just because all of the Uchiha belongings and funds are theirs now.

There's a bit of trickiness bc technically, most of it should go specifically to Sasuke (as he's now default clan heir, though that isn't exactly worth much now) but Houhua is older than him

Houhua will probably end up splitting things between them, and Sasuke will trust him enough to do it (+ be too young to really realize that's something as important as it really is)

I think in canon, and lot of Uchiha shit got stolen or went ""missing"" in their death, mostly bc Sasuke... wouldn't know what to watch out for / prevent people from trying to take. But with Houhua here, it's going to be way hard for anyone to do any sort of grave robbing

Houhua is absoloutley gonna be taking inventory and his past life's experience means he knows to be on guard for people looting the compound when he's not looking !! There might even be some fun drama w that in the future ,,,

Houhua is stuffing weapons and money into Sasuke's pockets, very much fussing over him every chance he gets.

(Because Sasuke is his meal ticket!! He insists to himself, going out of his way to demolish anyone who looks at Sasuke even a little bit funny)

I honestly think Houhua would make for a good guardian for Sasuke overall, tho he'd for sure have his faults. The key word here is 'guardian', not anything like a father— Sasuke is gonna end up seeing Houhua as his (new, better, real) big brother over shitty Itachi over there

Houhua, as Shang Qinghua, lived to be very old (for a human, not for a cultivator) and had a hand in raising and training many disciples.

I like to reference Pride Is Not The Word I'm Looking For (aka the single best Shang Qinghua fic of all time) for my characterization for him, so he's like. Genuinley a good teacher and uncle, when he tries to be. He is just also burdened with crippling self doubt and likes to insist that every nice thing he does is canceled out by his own selfish reasoning behind doing those nice things

In Naruto world especially, filled with shitty murderous parents and a government that churns out murder babies, I think Houhua will be winning awards in his own parenting skills

Then there's also the fact that Houhua did know and interact with Sasuke before the massacre, just not too often. He was Itachi's weird cry baby friend, he'd hang out with him sometime

They just were never really close, and never really got to interact 1 on 1 for long— till, ofc, the massacre happens, and now Sasuke is latching on to Houhua and hyperventalating if anyone so much as looks like they're going to try and separate them

Houhua's existence as a whole allows Sasuke to be a lot more vulnerable, both because he is not "the last Uchiha" and also because Houhua will no doubt try to piggy back off of his revenge quest or even try to steal it entirely (to try and become a more important character, he insists to himself)

So Sasuke is just. Nowhere near as alone as before. And Houhua's own relationship with Itachi helps Sasuke believe Houhua might get it... more than other people, at least.

Ofc, there's also conflict in Sasuke maybe not thinking Houhua gets it "enough", or like Sasuke himself does, because Sasuke was, ofc, Itachi's little brother.

^ I think that would inevitably come in to play later, when Sasuke realizes Itachi and Houhua might have feelings for eachother. Sasuke would be so fucking hurt and feel so fucking betrayed, believing that maybe Houhua never "got it" to begin with

Things get even more complicated depending on when Sasuke learns this tho, because eventually Houhua is going to share his suspicions about the massacre being not as simple as it looked. So Sasuke's own feelings on Itachi are gonna go on a roller coaster of their own, trying to figure out if he himself can or should forgive his brother or no

Its all just a mess tbh, I love to see it

I HONESTLY DUNNO IF SASUKE WILL GO WITH OROCHIMARU OR NOT !! On one hand, mmmayybe ,,,, if he does, Houhua will go with him, full stop.

But there's also a chance that Houhua might try to take his place too! And he and Orochimaru are inevitably going to interact eventually, bc I have plans ,,,

(I mentioned it in another post, but if Houhua ever shares about the system and his past life with literally anyone, I would choose Orochimaru to find out. I think I could get the most milage out of him, and Orochimaru would absoloutley try to hack into the system for immortality and power or some shit)

I think whatever route I go with w Orochimaru will just depend on what I'm feeling when I get to that point in writing the fic. We will have to see where the story naturally leads me, you know? All of the options are so good, so it's hard to choose

"Still, what kind of precedence does this set? That we allow foreign nin to kidnap our children and steal our bloodlines, and yet we are the ones to pay retribution?" Inoichi asked sharply. "You say we cannot afford another war, but surely we also cannot afford to look this weak in front of our enemies."

"What Inoichi said. After what those bloodline-stealing, clouds-for-brains ninja tried to pull? If anything, they should be worried about us declaring war on them," Inuzuka Tsume snarled.

"This move buys us time while we build up strength," Utatane Koharu argued. She shot Hiashi a sharp look. "This wouldn't have been necessary had you the foresight to show a little restraint. I don't know what you were thinking, killing off a high-ranking Kumo nin with diplomatic immunity--"

"He took my daughter--"

"He was evidence--"

"Enough," Hizashi spoke up quietly. "If this will save lives and ensure the safety of the Byakugan, then I am willing. I can think of no more honorable way to serve my village and my clan."

"Try living," a new voice called from outside the doors, a split second before they opened and a vaguely familiar woman walked in. She was startlingly pretty, Hizashi couldn't help but notice-- delicate, almost elvish features, bluish-black hair tied up in a casual twist, deep blue eyes with a hint of mischief within.

Amidst all the ninja stiffening in alarm, Hizashi noticed Uchiha Fugaku letting out a low groan, pinching the bridge of his nose in an uncharacteristic display of emotion.

"Kobayashi-san," the Hokage said, eyeing her with...wariness? What was going on? "This is a classified meeting."

"Yes, you really do need to work on your security seals, Sandaime-sama, they're terribly outdated," she mused. "I do apologize for the intrusion but I admit to feeling rather worried after I overheard this esteemed council seriously consider handing one of Konoha's most valuable dojutsu over to Kumo on a silver platter." She clasped her hands behind her back, offering him a falsely bright smile. "As a tax-paying citizen of Konoha, you'll take my concerns into consideration, I hope."

Across the table, Nara Shikaku snorted at the blatant sarcasm in those words.

"Reina-san--" Fugaku growled. The woman--Reina-- waved at him cheerfully.

"Hi Fugaku-san! Mikoto-chan would like you to pick up some tomatoes on your way back. Sasuke-kun got into the pantry again, so we're out." She shook her head fondly. "That boy, honestly. I don't know what to do with him."

Next to him, Hiashi choked on his spit while most of the room stared at her in disbelief (with the exception of Tsume, who was currently stiffing her laughter behind a fist). With an abrupt start, Hizashi remembered where he'd seen this woman before. It had been a popular topic of gossip the past few days, when the Uchiha Matriarch had, seemingly out of nowhere, struck up a close friendship with a civilian woman who made a living decorating cakes and cookies.

Hizashi glanced at the woman standing calmly in front of them, having effortlessly broken into one of Konoha's most secure buildings, completely unconcerned by being in a room full of Konoha's most powerful and influential ninja.

If she was a civilian, he'd eat his shoes.

"We wouldn't be 'handing the Byakugan over on a silver platter,' girl," Danzo scoffed, narrowing his eyes. "Don't speak of things you don't understand."

"Oh? Because by my understanding, you were planning on sacrificing Hizashi-san's life for his brother's and just hoping the Caged Bird Seal does its job and prevents Kumo from utilizing the Byakuyan," she said sweetly. "The problem with that plan, of course, is that the Caged Bird Seal is an absolute atrocity and an embarrassment to fuuinjutsu, designed by someone who cared more about enslaving his family members than actually protecting his bloodline."

"The Caged Bird Seal is infallible," Hizashi interjected before he could stop himself, voice hoarse. It was infallible because it had to be-- because if it could fail, then his and his son's suffering meant nothing.

An unreadable expression crossed her face.

"Is it?" She asked softly. "Why don't you ask your son that?"

She turned towards the door.

"Neji-kun, come inside for a moment, will you?"

His son walked inside, forehead bare as the day he was born, and Hizashi's world shattered.

"What, like it's hard?"

"No, they won't." Reina tilted her head to the side. "Oh, I probably should have started with that. Yeah, they retracted their demand for Hyuuga-san's life, and send along their most sincere apologies for what happened, and their most sincere assurances that they had no idea their head ninja was planning such a thing, blah, blah, blah. You're welcome."

There was a long silence. It was the first time Hizashi had ever seen Sarutobi Hiruzen speechless. He probably would have enjoyed it more had he not been so focused on keeping his own mouth from dropping open.

"Um, excuse me. What?" Inoichi asked, sounding as gobsmacked as Hizashi felt.

"How the hell did you manage that?" Tsume exploded.

"Passed along a message?" Reina shrugged. "Although to be honest, it wasn't so much the content of the message as much as the method of delivery."

"Reina-san," Fugaku said, voice low and laced with dread. "What did you do?"

She grinned, twirling around a very familiar looking kunai-- one that Konoha hadn't seen in a very long time. Next to him, Hiashi drew in a sharp breath.

"Did you know A has one of these just lying around in his office? Probably in an attempt to deconstruct it. But oh man, you should have seen his face when I popped in!" She laughed. "Or should I say, flashed in. Never seen a man turn white so quickly! That was totally worth the motion sickness."

Kumo, after Reina breaks into their Kage’s office with an S-Class jutsu that was thought extinct but still gives like half the ninja world PTSD: I’m sorry Konoha, I wasn’t familiar with your game

(In Reina's world, there's like half a dozen people who know the Hiraishin, although obviously Minato's the best at it. Reina learned because after what happened with Obito and Rin, she wanted a way to teleport instantly to her precious people in order to provide emergency medical care (she also was on standby while Minato was developing it, just in case of any teleporting mishaps/he ended up needing any limbs reattached). She doesn't use it for combat though and dislikes using the jutsu as it gives her motion sickness. Kushina also technically knows it but doesn't have the chakra control to use it effectively. Kakashi and Orochimaru also know how to use it, and Minato plans on teaching Naruto one day as well. Which is a sharp contrast to the canon world, where the number is like zero).

Hey! I'm looking for some advice. How do you handle fanfics that will make other characters hate or mistreat a char you love? Especially if said hatred or mistreatment is so far removed from canon? Ex. Sasuke even after knowing the truth will sacrifice Itachi for Naruto or Sakura.

There are two kinds of people I'm physically and mentally incapable of taking seriously in the fandoms and they are:

Fandom activists: These people want to impose their real life morals onto the fictional world and get angry on everyone and everything that doesn't squarely align with those morals. You'll find those in plenty among the Itachi haters, and those people are likely to write the fics in which Sasuke sacrifices Itachi for the goals they consider more important, that is, "justice" for the Uchiha. They want to pretend that Itachi himself was not a victim of Konoha and the clan and their politics.

Shippers: It just goes without saying that the shippers are mostly the fans that bastardize the characters and the bonding to validate their headcanons.

Both SS and SNS (a lot of them, if not most) fans don't actually see Itachi as a human, let alone a victim. So, when they're writing their fics that feature Sasuke's relationship with his brother, it must be distorted to fit the headcanons that only Naruto or Sakura could have saved Sasuke. Itachi is only a tool for them who works as a means to bring their ship closer.

I never click on the Sasuke/Naruto or Sasuke/Sakura fics. Because I don't care about these ships and I know they're going to distort Itachi and Sasuke's relationship because he must accommodate to whoever Sasuke's partner is.

Recently I came across a fic with Sasuke and Hinata as a ship (people ship them too?) and I ended up there because of some tags I have on my own fic. And well, needless to say, Itachi's treatment wasn't much different from how I described above.

I think it is a common phenomenon in the fics that focus on the ships. Sasuke must be devoted to the people he's shipped with and not Itachi, because, you know, Itachi just didn't deserve to be remembered, and it's totally not sadistic to write everyone, including Sasuke forgetting about him or not caring about him.

In canon, their relationship is the strongest. Itachi endured the worst kind of darkness and disgrace for Sasuke's sake. Sasuke was willing to do and endure the same for Itachi's sake. He does love other people, but for him, no one will ever come close. Not Naruto or Sakura or anyone. We know Sasuke would have destroyed the world for Itachi. But he would never hurt Itachi for anyone. We don't see him extend this kindness to anyone else.

If you're into SS and SNS as ships, you'll probably come across fics in which Sasuke chooses others over Itachi. I don't read them, so it's easier for me to avoid. I'm already seething over the fact that no one remembers Itachi anymore, so shippers writing that nonsense is going to make me commit atrocities.

team taka fans are getting on my nerves. they say naruto isn’t important to sasuke, their friendship/bond is useles because they were forced into a team, taka has a deeper understanding of sasuke (lol). when showed proof they say you are “possesive over sasuke” like what??

sasuke himself discarded them and stabbed karin& was about to kill her too if sakura didn’t decide to pull her pathetic show. if sasuke is secretly in love with karin wouldn’t he feel remorse or hesitate?? they like to say sasuke and karin like did it and their relationship has sexual undertones when sasuke bites her. like let’s give them the benefit of doubt ; it is sexual from karin’s side but sasuke makes it clear that he doesn’t want her that way. or how sasuke doesn’t push her (does anyone remember his face in war arc?)

also their bond isn’t that… close ig? karin is like sakura who wants sexual favors from sasuke, suigetsu’s reason is even more pathetic and for the life of me i don’t know why he sticks with team taka (to break karin and sasuke up that was his reason ig) and juugo’s is the only one that makes sense.

i used to didn’t care too much about team taka but their stans kinda ruined them for me with how they overblow their “friendship” out of proportions to mock sns

they wanted to reach out to each other when they were small but for various reasons couldn’t. before team 7 was even a thing.

I don’t think it’s correct to say that team taka understand sasuke wholeheartedly and is closest to him, when canonically the only one who can see inside his heart is naruto. though it is true team taka know what happened to sasuke, and they support him in his goal, juugo is there cuz sasuke is a remnant from kimimaro, karin is there cuz she loves sasuke, why is suigetsu there again? 😅 did he just stick along for the ride cuz of the swords… he said as long as it suits him he’ll follow but if it doesn’t serve him he won’t. when he released prisoners on sasuke’s order he mentioned sas being their saviour or smth… when sas wanted to go to the previous hokage and then to the battlefield, suigetsu wanted to dip cuz he was too scared.

sasuke put together team taka cuz of their skills, and in return cuz of their own reasons taka followed him. they spent time together, sas was their leader, the bonds of comraderie they formed (which also reminded him of the bonds of comraderie in team 7), affected them. and sas got Amaterasu powers to protect karin.

kage summit rolls around, sas left juugo and suigetsu behind, karin was really affected by the events and seemingly gave up on sas saying why should she care, I know like some people don’t ‘accept’ these actions cuz sas was in a bad state of mind, so I won’t dwell on it too much. tho the only person who was able to somewhat get through to sasuke was naruto here.

however when it came down to it, once their goal was over, even though their relationship developed from when they first met, once sasuke ‘calmed down’ (don’t think it’s the right phrase but so u get what I mean), he was willing to let them die, like the rest of team 7 sans naruto, like in the war with the bijuu bomb, he wanted to take juugo cuz of his natural energy cuz that was the only thing that worked against obito. before anyone comes for me sasuke didn’t take naruto just cuz he was strong, while protecting him sasuke said he wanted to be the one to kill naruto himself, he’s the one that will cut off the past, since naruto is the last bond he had to cut down to be truly alone. the last person to cut down in the memory of his brother <- all stuff sas said.

when u look at the times sas wanted to kill his ‘comrades’, it’s without hesitation, no emotional recognition from his part, no acknowledgement… except for his one and only… friend. oh yeah. naruto is sasuke’s closest/most intimate friend. did he use such words for any of his other comrades?

so where’s this profound bond sas has with team taka? It’s reminiscent of the one with team 7. I do agree tho that team taka were done dirty at the end, and that they’re better than sakura and kakashi (tho those two set the bar so low) and it would be nice to see team taka bonds develop, since I obviously don’t agree with the take that sasuke should ONLY have a bond with naruto that’s ridiculous, tho to say team taka understood naruto better than sasuke is wrong, it’s like those ppl don’t understand sasuke, it’s like they ignore his words and thoughts and actions based on their personal opinions. sometimes the actions naruto took towards sasuke weren’t the best and i have a post on that in my drafts but idk if I’m gonna post it but… just to get that out here that I don’t think naruto is ‘perfect’ by any means.

as for karin, at the start sas rejected her advances. during the war arc when he apologised and when she hugged him he didn’t brush her off but he looked uncomfortable at the physical closeness. in the middle, karin stole sasuke’s sweaty clothes for her uhm pleasure ig idk. If they were doing the deed why would she need to resort to his clothes… it is obviously sexual on karin’s side she liked it when sas bit her, but sas was chugging chakra down to stay alive it wasn’t sexual for him. kishimoto can write subtext well, he can draw it well too (like those 3 panels of yahikonan implying they kissed), but there’s no such thing in the manga where it’s hinted sasuke had sexual relations with karin.

the boruto ships randomly came to my head. many think there’s a love triangle and insist it’s BoruSumi vs BoruSara… but it’s seems the love triangle isn’t Sumire-Boruto-Sarada like we all thought, but Sumire-Boruto-Mitsuki and honestly, that makes so much more sense when you really think about it

it’s been confirmed multiple times that sumire is in love with boruto. her feelings are canon and she plays the role of the love heroine (shonen tend to have two heroines. one is the main heroine and the other the love heroine. like sakura and hinata were in naruto). there is no debate here. sumire loves boruto

sarada’s been asked three times already if she likes boruto and the girl always denies it. her response never changes. it’s consistent. when sumire asked her about her feelings, sarada said she does not like boruto, this made sumire confident enough to admit she does like boruto. sarada is the closest girl to boruto. it makes sense she’s her main competition and would ask her how she feels about the guy she’s interested in. when mitsuki asked her about her feelings for boruto, she not only dismissed the question, she also turned it back on him and said he’s the one whose eyes light up when he sees boruto. when eida asked her, sarada doesn’t even answer and lies (literally lies during this entire conversation) about eida’s enchantment ability to not answer. not just that, but a bit prior to asking her this, sarada literally thinks the entire romance topic is dumb

sarada literally has zero interest in romance. there’s no other way to put it. there is no deeper meaning or “reading between the lines”. what we see is what we get and exactly what it means

now let’s talk about mitsuki here. he said he wouldn’t know what he’d do to the person if they hurt boruto

and was the one who brought up the question to sarada. asking her about her feelings and instead, she says her wanting to help boruto has nothing to do with her feelings. literally shutting any questions about romance down. mitsuki then asked if it’s hard to know your own feelings. this tells us he is internally trying to understand his own feelings, and it’s when sarada tells him his eyes light up when he sees boruto

a few chapters later mitsuki is affected by eida’s enchantment ability and he wonders what that feeling is as he’s never experienced it. mitsuki doesn’t understand human emotions. not 100% anyway and is learning about it as the series progresses. mitsuki asking sarada about her feelings for boruto and being told he’s the one whose eyes light up and then feeling a certain emotion for the first time ever could be a hint to his own feelings for boruto

really thinking about it, i’m starting to believe many of us have been seeing this manga wrong the entire seven years it’s been going. i always see ship wars between boruto x sumire vs boruto x sarada… when in reality we’re wrong here. this isn’t sumire-boruto-sarada, it’s sumire-boruto-mitsuki. and seeing as we already have a nonbinary character (orochimaru) in the narutoverse, it should be no surprise if mitsuki doesn’t care for gender regarding himself and his potential romantic partner

now i’ll touch a bit of boruto x sarada since it’s the most popular ship and i know many will be quick to point out their interactions. truth is, with the amount of times she’s been asked if she likes boruto and never confirming things, it kind of throws sarada out the window as a potential lover for boruto in the future. they’re really close and good friends that care about each other. if anything, they’re more like family since it’s the way their parents (naruto and sasuke) bonded (like brothers). then why are they always asking sarada if she has feelings for boruto?? the answer is simple. it’s as simple as throwing a bone to the shippers to keep them in. with the manga’s sales not being very good and declining with each release, everyone knows the only people who will see this manga to the end are shippers just to see if their ship is canon, so the writers have to find a way to keep them in. it’s really that simple

so i have a take on this that some people may not love, but bear with me.

let me start by saying that no, tobirama is imo not a character i think would be diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. this is in part bc it's very difficult to diagnose any fictional character with anything they don't canonically have, as fictional characters are by necessity significantly more two-dimensional that real people. this is especially true in forms of media like manga, in which characters have exaggerated reactions to help inform the reader of their personalities.

in any case, it's extremely difficult to apply a modern diagnosis of aspd to anybody in naruto, because that whole world exists on kind of a different morality axis. while i'd say it's possible to make an argument for aspd concerning most naruto characters, by the nature of the manga, you'd have to rely on a lot of guesswork.

(also, brief side note - we have no idea how he came up with edo tensei. there's plenty of possibilities, but i think it seems most likely that it started as something else and only became edo tensei as we know it on accident. it's not a jutsu that makes much sense for someone in tobirama's position to be actively seeking out; it seems more like,,,,, idk a college student who hasn't slept for four days running on red bull and accidentally writing an essay on the history of throat cancer instead of an explanation on the thematic parallels between goku and luke skywalker. but this too is just a guess)

that aside, if i was going to diagnose tobirama with something (aside from ptsd/cptsd, which plagues the naruto universe like fleas in 14th century europe), it would probably be autism.

here me out. (also, i am autistic. this is the pot calling the kettle autistic, that's what this is)

first, i'll start with social norms. while, as mentioned earlier, naruto's morality axis is a tad more murder-happy than the one we're familiar with, the way the characters speak to each other is not, as they are speaking in a real language. of course, since it's manga, everything is to some degree exaggerated, but there's still enough to take a look at imo. for starters, tobirama is rude. i don't mean like telling his brother to shut up or speaking casually to his father; both of those are fairly normal. what i mean is, from hashirama's flashback through the rest of the war arc, tobirama doesn't speak with anything close to the degree of politeness that would be expected of a man in his position. this isn't particularly unique to him in and of itself, since as mentioned manga almost always presents exaggerated emotional responses, but in tobirama's case we're actually shown this clashing with expectations (see hashirama repeatedly telling him "don't say stuff like that" and the only time to my knowledge when he actually speaks politely being when the fucking sage of six paths shows up)

tobirama's (affectionate) nickname among japanese fans is hiretsu-sama (卑劣様), which basically you can translate as "lord/mr despicable/crude/mean/sneaky", which comes from muu's description of the edo tensei (「二代目火影の卑劣な術だ」 - "it's the second hokage's despicable jutsu"), and i bring this up bc it led to a meme that i personally find very funny of pasting tobirama's face over "despicable" moments (such as kakashi tying sasuke to a tree). i also bring this up bc tobirama is a rationalist and, as the author of the piece linked in this paragraph mentions, edo tensei can be described as rationalism gone too far (it's super effective! also sir where are your morals) (side note 2: i recommend looking at this article even if you have no way of reading it bc the edits are quite funny)

anyway, on to my next point! tobirama is extremely strict about schedules. this is mostly brought up as a joke, since it's common to have a lazy-responsible sibling dynamic, but it's still worth mentioning.

my third and fourth point, which are also sort of one combined point, are inflexiblity and strong sense of right and wrong. the latter may seem to contradict everything i've said so far, but having a strong sense of right and wrong doesn't equate to having a good sense of right and wrong. for example, if you're starting with an already unhealthy "x = good, y = bad" base (in this case, "senju = good, uchiha = bad"), that's the foundation that your sense of right and wrong will be built off of. this is why you can find so many people on places like twitter who manage to be the seemingly incompatible combo of "autistic" and "nazi" (i am not joking. there are so, so, so many of them. some on this site too. very depressing)

tldr: no, tobirama does not have aspd. he's probably autistic and definitely in need of a better moral compass (but, to be fair, so is almost everyone else)

Every time I think about how Tobirama created some of his jutsu, it makes me… well, let's just say it FUCKS me.

Okay, okay, I know a lot of people have probably talked about this and written about it, but let's think about it again. The point here is not even that in the world of "Naruto" the existence of the soul and life after death is objectively known, and most likely before Tobirama created Edo Tensei (and this, of course, explains why the characters so easily treat them as their own, and to the death of others). It’s not even that Tobirama, knowing this, decided to not care about the will of dead people and once again return them to the “impure world”, where they must fight according to his will - and for this he needed their DNA. And not even that LIVING human bodies were used as vessels (yes, there were no White Zetsu then).

But. Jutsu have been created over the years. It took Minato four years to complete the rasengan, but it’s just a ball of chakra, it’s not even a ready-made jutsu, because Minato couldn’t and didn’t have time to add elemental release to it. How long did it take Tobirama to summon souls from the afterlife? Did he immediately realize that someone else's life would be required in exchange? He probably should have known that Shinigami wouldn't allow something like that to be done for free. But even taking this into account… how many prisoners of war, criminals and some other people whom the state does not feel too sorry for did Tobirama kill? He couldn't have developed Edo Tensei just as a theory, otherwise how would it have been known that the original Edo Tensei was much weaker than Orochimaru's more advanced form?

So yes, he probably experimented for a long time. Secret from Hashirama, MOST LIKELY. Thinking about this, I imagine something like Lovecraft's "Herbert West", where the dude spent years plundering the graves and corpses of recently deceased people, injecting them with various solutions until he succeeded (of course, in the process he created several indescribable monsters that became cause of his death).

And Tobirama dealt with all this, hell, he even came up with such an idea, NOT being a maniacal psychopathic nihilist like Orochimaru… Dude is really cold-blooded.

Why is another of my AUs going ‘and here how things are going WORSE for Sasuke’?

Well I’m not sure WHERE it’s going for Sasuke, but he kind stole the show. This was supposed to be “so the chuunin exams happen in Suna, and Naruto’s mini arc of going from ‘terrified of gaara because of the reflection of himself he sees’ to ‘i feel his pain like it was my own’ happens in like two days due to being witness of gaara going murder-happy on his own co-patriots, and decidind that you know, fuck that, he’s on gaara’s side there’. (this is naruto. this is naruto looking at someone who just died gorily, probably undeservedly, and deciding to befriend the killer whether or not said killer change his way. i consider this is early enough in the manga that it’s plausible - especially in this particular situation. Later he’s more “it’s BECAUSE we’re alike i can’t stand your choices”; at this point though, faced with such a mirror of his own situation, it might happen. That’s. probably going to affect his later development in interesting ways)

Meanwhile Sasuke and Sakura are getting the ‘jinchuuriki exist; yes there’s one in konoha; suna is being very stupid to let the identity of their jinchuuriki be so immediately apparent’ lesson. Like, first murder incident, naruto was incredibly subdued while kakashi explained. THere was an exchange like that:

‘so, if there’s a jinchuuriki in konoha, who is it?’

‘well, that’s a military secret you don’t have the clearance for. Right now i’m just hoping ours is less obvious to an outsider’

*silence from naruto*

‘but, if no one knows, no one can treat them differently, right? and if there was someone going that crazy, we would know!’

‘Some people DO know, though. And our jinchuuriki might have better control and less homicidal impulses’

*more silence from naruto*

‘I don’t think we’re well placed to judge the situation. For us, it’s part of the paysage, we probably don’t even notice the way they’re treated’

So, Naruto goign straight to gaara, expressing his fury at the way he’s treated more than his horror at what is doing - that plus sasuke and sakura, who probably wouldn’t have put the pieces together otherwise, knowing how he’s treated in konoha - yeah, naruto is outing his statut as a jinchuuriki to sasuke and sakura, as soon as they think about it - like the ‘everyone treats naruto badly’ thing is usually passive knowledge, and it would not necessarily have tilted with the new information, even with naruto’s unusual quiet, if not for naruto not giving a shit Like, naruto trying to befriend someone who’s dangerous? ok, maybe, it’s naruto, who knows. The way he goes at it, though - that’s personal.

Like, Naruto is 100% aware of what he’s giving away. He’s also not giving a shit. Not if sasuek or sakura realizes, and not if Suna realizes something that’s a Konoha secret. Certainly not that it might put him in danger. He’s not going to say it outright - not until he and Gaara are somewhere they won’t be heard - but he’s also not going to give a crap if it can be understood from his actions.

Meanwhile Sasuke just saw his teammate walk through gore towards a murderer and insistently befriend him. Said teammate, who is usually always trying to get his acknowledgment, is absolutely ignoring him.

Like Sasuke goes from ‘i am terrified of that guy, and now terrified for my friend’ - to teh point he doesn’t immediately reject Sakura’s presence as he would usually do to run from his own feelings to ‘fuck him what is he he’s leaving me behind I DON’T NEED HIM I DON’T NEED ANYONE’ and while sakura is going after him, he’s not in the mood to let himself be cared for, and things are not going to be better for him. Not necessarily worse, but not better.

....i just wanted naruto meeting gaara in suna. I got that! but also i chose Kakashi’s pov, who is now alone in a foreiign village where he’s barely  not an enemy, and also is letting his sensei’s son, his genin, do something not only insanely dangerous but also possibly harmful for konoha. Because he trusts that he can pull it off with no harm for himself, and he considers that if he does, it will be good enough for him to compensate the potential harm to Konoha.

So! Sasuke and Sakura’s development are still on canon rails. Naruto and Kakashi? not so much.

Hello! Congrats on 500 followers (I've only just found your blog aha, but congrats either way ^^)

If possible I'd like to request a matchup hehe~ I'm average height I think (5'3), I have a real gothic style (black and dark colours are my thing. Rather casual but I'll sometimes go with makeup if I'm going out, tho that's usually more reserved for when I'm cosplaying). My hobbies would be writing, listening to music and playing games mainly (unless sleeping is considered a hobby too? I do that a lot. Low energy levels especially as of recently for some reason). My favourite writing genres are usually very dark and horror themes along with angst (though I do sometimes write fluff too), my music taste is mainly obey me and enstars songs with some other stuff mixed in like alternative or dance pop. I mainly play gacha games and rhythm games too aha. As mentioned before another of my hobbies would be cosplay, though I don't really now do it unless I'm going to a con with my friend. My star sign if relevant is Sagittarius btw. My most prominent sin is Envy (tho Gluttony and Sloth do represent me well, Envy is the best). I'm very quiet and shy/awkward but I do tend to talk for hours the second I'm able to talk abt my hyperfixations aha. Also got a terrible habit of staying up late playing games or whatever and then wondering why I'm always so tired lol

Hi:) saw your art on Twitter it's really breathtaking. Apart from that I also saw you ship a lot for sns and do really support them more than most of the shippers. But here is a opinion I had, you guys believe sauske and naruto should be together as a couple. It's not a wrong thing to be gay as it's 2022 xD. But kisimoto doesn't state they are gay Or sauske love Naruto sexually and vice versa. I mean Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship is based off of Kishimoto and his twin’s relationship. He has a twin brother whom he’s very close to, and who he says he shares pain with - not in a literal sense, but in the sense that if his twin is in pain and he knows this, he also suffers pain emotionally. Naruto and Sasuke’s brotherly bond is written to emulate that. If he wrote Naruto and Sasuke romantically, that would be turning his feelings for his twin into romantic/sexual feelings. I think you can see why he didn’t want to do that, and why he repeatedly underlined that they were brothers.Naruto called Sasuke his brother as far back as Final Valley. He did it again when confronting Itachi before Itachi’s death.

Romance was never on the table.

I am honestly confused how some people equate a brotherly bond into a romantic one. 🥴

It’s important to note that in Kishimoto’s story, a bunch of people tried to sway him from his plans (like doing Narusaku) but overall, he has always stayed on tracked on how he wanted the characters to end.

P.S. I know there is not really LGBTQ+ representation in anime but forming baseless assumptions does not help, especially if the author already conveyed their ideals. :) if author didn't create this universe our childhood would be dead. Arguing with author, well doesn't make sense does it.

Anyways, Naruto and hinata are suppose to be together, heck, it was hinted on SINCE THE START, it's a fact.

Ah, either way, they’re straight, its official, Naruto and Sasuke are just, beyond a brotherly bond, Im not saying its gay (of course not) but it is a very tight brotherly bond, even though by blood, they are far from brothers. We can't rewrite the story anyway because it's already been published and ended with hinata with naruto , sauske with sakura.

Okay just for fun - Imagine this with me, just for a second. 

We have a Mangaka that uses a Visual Medium that primarily relies on components like spacing, lines, shapes, tones, contrast, rhythm, composition etc- to effectively convey things like moods and emotions and with that utilize important relationships within that story structure, agree? 

Naruto is a visual blend that has become one of the most successful manga in the world in which Kishimoto is the director and staff (screenwriter, cinematographer, costume designer, director, art director, actors, props, set pieces, special effects, makeup) all by himself while creating the story (in all its glory) and carefully draws the pages which then go by the extremely meticulous editors from WSJ every week.

And you say that he, Kishimoto, a visual storyteller, has to “state”.. as in express in words, in some interview, how a character feels after the whole story is over, because we didn’t understand? He couldn’t fit it in? There was no time? His favorite pancake shop had a free delivery deal and that took priority?

If anything, I think we understood it well enough ;)

You sound like you know him personally. Kishimoto has said a lot of things in interviews, one thing more contradicting than the other. There are a multitude of “interviews” going around, more often than not without sources and yet, even in favor of SNS, I wouldn’t use them in an argument. Especially in later interviews the man seemed to have forgotten what he had said in another- now… why would it be so quiet? 

Interviews are not valid arguments (imo), but I’ll entertain you since I know which interview you’re talking about. 

Funnily enough, when you look for it, mainly SS pages come up seemingly in a very desperate attempt to push the whole “SNS are brothers”-scheme under everyone’s noses. 

Which is even more funny, no? If the strength of faith in their ships were completely rock solid, surely they would have been able to dismiss contrasting information with a pitying smile. Or might not even feel offended at all.

But when I say desperate.. I mean, desperate.. 

This is just one account and it is full of posts like this that go from “oh they’re brothers, aw, uwu, so cute :3” to very aggressive nonsense that proves these posts are only meant to emphasize on the “brother”-part in the first place. Not caring about Naruto or Sasuke AT ALL. Taking a tiny excerpt from a whole interview and completely milking it as much as possible.

If that is of more importance than intellectual content.. like.. I dunno, for example.. the whole story of Naruto(!?) then that just means, for what it looks like, resentment, anger and hurt pride.. why exactly?

When you can’t even hold a rational discussion anymore, because a contrary view causes you to step on a minefield of emotional responses and you have to preach to 35k+ people that your ship LOVES each other, because “I found a written sentence online so it must be true and you have to believe me✌🏼”.. then what does that imply?

If the translations are correct then he didn’t say Naruto and Sasuke have a “brotherly bond”. He said their friendship is modeled after the one he felt with his brother. Which is feeling the pain of the other. And that love/bond feeling and friendship for him is the same. It wasn’t necessarily about his brother. There is a difference in context there. 

Besides, he also has said that he couldn’t “put in words” what their relationship is and how hard that is for him to describe. He dodged that question several times too. But sure, hold on to that, I guess. He’s an artist, creator, author.. surely he would know and surely such questions aren’t needed, but hey, here we are. 

(Also.. “everything doesn’t always go as planned”, aye?)

Which is also why, luckily, there is a very clear and distinctive difference in how Sasuke treats his brother and how he treats Naruto.. or you know, anyone for that matter.

And are delighted to call this proof of them seeing each other as brothers.. and yet, that’s not at all what is happening. Let’s talk about the context. 

Sasuke never acknowledges Naruto being his brother or feeling like he is his brother OR his bond with Naruto feeling “brotherly”. (Where do “you guys” (your words) even get this from anyway?)

The only reason Naruto brings it up here is because he was wondering if being with Sasuke was what it would feel like to have a brother, because he obviously felt something. Yet, as they both acknowledge, Naruto never had such bonds, so he wouldn’t know, but Sasuke does since he has/had Itachi. (And grew up with a family.) Therefore he doesn’t answer to that, yet calls Naruto his closest friend.

Naruto questions Sasuke's choice of words. Why? Well, for one, they're fighting and Sasuke is seemingly trying to kill him here, but also hearing Sasuke say this made Naruto even more confused.

“I have to make sure.. what Sasuke’s talking about.. about me..” (Naruto doing everything he can to try and understand.)

“How are we friends?”

“I don’t understand.”

“Maybe I thought..”

The whole fight includes Naruto’s confessions about Sasuke, what he initially thought and felt to then: “I aspired to be like you” “I always wanted to be like you” “I was truly glad you acknowledged me” “I wanted to talk to you”. Him saying “when I’m with you I wonder if it’s like being with a brother”, followed up with mutual silence makes a lot of sense if you take everything into consideration and not just copy/paste one panel so you can say: “See? Brothers.” Because that is not what it is. But then again, I’ve read enough pro-canon posts to not be surprised. 

(This includes Naruto wondering whether being with Iruka is what it would feel like to be with a father.) 

((And if you really, REALLY want to be picky and hold on to the little cut taken out of some ‘Kishimoto interview’-theory, then remember these details, because Naruto is a child here. And if there is anything Naruto has done throughout the story then it is doing his best to try and understand. This includes himself.))

If I had the time and I wouldn’t scare people away from my blog with it, I would type endlessly about VotE1 & 2 and how insanely accurate the details are when it comes to them ‘growing up’. How they really have gone from A to B physically, but especially mentally. 

In particular, the childish way in which Naruto is arguing with Sasuke in VotE1. Gosh, the people who are complaining about him and how “pushy” he is and that he “doesn’t understand Sasuke” and blablabla.. yes!! That is the point!!! And that is what is so beautiful about it, because it comes from a heart that tries to reach out to Sasuke in order to protect. To protect a bond, to protect someone that is precious to him (as is established in LoW-Arc). Naruto knew what "going to Orochimaru (of all people.. snake.. being(?))" would mean for Sasuke. He was scared for him.

"You might get killed! I can't let you go somewhere like that!"

(NarUtO nEvEr caRed fOr sAsuKe. Stfu.)

In no other anime or any other medium are two characters this focussed on each other calling each other friend this many times as if we as an audience perhaps would forget or something. (As if.) Neither is Sasuke satisfied with that word, but we’ll let that slide for now.

Yet on one single occasion Naruto felt the need to say: “He’s like a brother to me.” 

Uhm?!

“More of a brother than he ever was to you!”

Ah see, now it makes sense. I mean at this point we’re already aware of Naruto’s personality and his intense care towards Sasuke, no?

Even Itachi himself says so. 

Itachi isn’t stupid by any means. In fact, if you go back to this scene Kishimoto made sure to draw several panels of him with just a “knowing look”. 

“You just said.. 

“I’m asking what you’d do if your “brother” attacked Konoha.” Now why couldn’t he say something like: “I’m asking what you’d do if Sasuke attacked Konoha?” Itachi is not a petty person. He’s trying to illustrate to himself, but Naruto even, what Sasuke truly means to this blonde dude that fights tooth and nail for his little brother. 

“What is it about my brother that makes you care so much?” 

Itachi keeps questioning Naruto, his intentions are too obvious if you’re willing to look beyond a hetero biased shipping lens. (If only.)

(Also, I personally always found it interesting that Itachi never asked "why are you doing this?", "why are you doing this for Sasuke?" or something similar. Could be that I have wrong translations though (let me know!), but "what is it about my brother" Really?)

Yeah its all so very hetero.

This is just another case of “he said the word brother so they’re brothers” without taking in the whole scene. Or the whole story for that matter, because in literally any other scene Naruto is screaming, begging and pining over his friend Sasuke. (And the amount of unfinished sentences in this manga are killing me.) 

And boy does it all look so friendly.

"Romance was never on the table."

Undoubtedly Kishimoto wrote a love story even if you don’t see it as ‘romance’ necessarily. If the journey between these two characters is described as anything other than “love”, again, take it how it resonates for you, then that’s quite ignorant. You’ll have to completely ignore the author’s intent and complete substance that essentially is “Naruto”. Why make it so boring for yourself? 

But anyway, yes, it’s Shonen Manga “cool battles between the hero and monsters and they win through the power of friendship!”. At least.. it’s supposed to be. On a surface level. Can we not disrespect the story and Kishimoto like that? Thank you.

He did not write them act like brothers, but gay. They don't act like any of the brothers in the manga, they do not have a sibling dynamic, and they literally have a romance going on. This could be a main story to my modern au too, specifically after the horrible accident that fucks up Shin's organs and makes Sai lose his memory.

More "de-aged Taka and T7 end up in the Warring Clans Era as Founders' wards" AU

“That’s a thing?” you ask. The answer is yes.

Uh. Kind of. Deaging Team Seven for the sake of tossing them back in time for a Founder to adopt is pretty common, but I’m trash for Taka so this AU started with me brainstorming the asshole team.

I am falling more and more in love with the idea of Tobirama ending up with custody of Team Taka somehow. He’s a science dad, but like. Marginally more ethical than Orochimaru.

Everyone around them is like "This is a terrible idea and it's all going to end horribly" and he's just like "Ah, these are now my children."

I've read so many "Team Seven time-travels and is de-aged, get adopted by the Founders" or "a Founder time-travels forward and adopts Naruto, subsequently picking up the others" and they're good but I now want the same plot with an even more dysfunctional collection of... eldritch mishaps? The AO3 feel of "I want this fic I just read, again, but a step to the left so it feels fresh and new"

I'm considering the tent of tranquility idea (courtesy of @sloaners​) and I've come to the decision that Tobirama's... probably going to end up with Several Holes in it, and burns, and cuts, because Karin and Suigetsu never stop fighting, and if they're fighting, they're not paying attention to how soon Juugo's going to lose his grip on control.

"Hm. Tobirama?" "Anija." "Where did you get children?" "They showed up." "One of them looks like an Uchiha." "He does." "Two of them are trying to kill each other." "That's normal." "Are the Uchiha going to accuse us of stealing a clan child?" "Probably." "...Tobirama, did you steal these children?" "No."

(It's not kidnapping if they show up and break into your house first.)

(Also none of them are particularly pressed to ditch the Senju and find their clans. Maybe eventually. Not now.)

They’re assholes but Karin is, even at Supposedly Age Three, babbling at Tobirama about proper lab protocol and chemical reactions and isn’t that just the most adorable thing?

Very few people find Karin as adorable as Tobirama does, because Karin knows more ways to kill a person than most adult shinobi, because most adult shinobi don’t know about things like flesh-eating diseases and specialty poisons from the other side of the continent that can only be refined via chemical processes that won’t exist for another three decades.

Juugo is a sweetheart. Best child. Then he loses his mind but it’s okay, Sasuke is there. Do the Senju trust the clearly-Uchiha child to control the much larger five-year-old? No. But they don’t have any better ideas right now, so.

Tobirama: Hm, we should do something about that. Karin: Here’s a list of ideas and things that have already been tried. Tobirama: Thank you, small child. Where did you get this? Karin: ... Tobirama: Fair enough, let’s see what we can do.

Suigetsu is a little terror because not only is he a Massive Jerk but he also has better control over water than most adults. Mostly because he is water. It’s very hard to find him when he’s avoiding chores.

Karin clings to Mito sometimes because Family! and then Hashirama tries to tease Tobirama about being upset that one of his students/children has ditched him. Hashirama ends up moping in a corner because Tobirama snaps at him, unsurprisingly.

IDK if we have like any canon for Touka beyond skill with genjutsu, but going off of the fanon that she used a naginata, I’m going to say that Suigetsu keeps trying to challenge her to Blade Fights and she’s just like Neat, A Tiny Murder Machine.

Sasuke is very quiet for the most part and Dramatically Broods On Rooftops And In Trees and Hashirama is just like YES YOU REMIND ME OF MY BROTHER AND ALSO MY BEST FRIEND and Sasuke hides.

Sasuke does not need another Naruto, thank you.

Sasuke ends up hanging out with Mito, I think? Like yeah, sure, she’s an Uzumaki, but she’s chill and refined and calm and she has really good tea in stock. Sure he has to learn fuuinjutsu to have an excuse to hang out with her, but that’s fine. It’s interesting. Karin does it too, sometimes.

tbh that probably leaves Hashirama to hang out with Juugo? Juugo isn’t great at Excite but he is great at nature so I feel like Hashirama would be stars-in-eyes about Juugo talking to birds the way Hashirama talks to trees, and Hashirama just gets him a chicken coop like HERE. FRIENDS.

But back to the suspected child theft.

Hashirama is like “That is... clearly an Uchiha. They are going to find out, Tobirama! Someone is going to figure out we have--” “Sasuke, show him your other eye. Yeah, the one you cover.” “...” “Okay, go back to playing.” “...Tobirama.” “Yeah?” “That was a Rinnegan.” “You know those rumors that the only way to get a Rinnegan is to mix the Uchiha and Senju bloodlines?” “It’s true?” “No idea, Sasuke won’t tell me anything about his parents other than their names, and he’s three, but even the chance of it being true means we have an arguable claim.” “...that’s not going to be enough to convince the Uchiha.” “The theory is but one weapon of many in the upcoming battle of wits.” “Tobirama--” “Now if you’ll excuse me, Anija, I need to go make sure Suigetsu doesn’t flood the training grounds again.”

tbh I can’t remember who made the original comment in canon about the Rinnegan being achieved via Senju/Uchiha babies but it’s funny to use here so I’ll pretend it’s a common rumor that nobody actually believes

MEANWHILE WITH THE UCHIHA Madara found and took custody of Team Seven and company, mostly because they’re like... jounin-level despite being less than three feet tall.

It involves a lot of Madara going "I want My New Children to love me!" and being sorely disappointed by half of them. Poor fucker got stuck with Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Kakashi, Yamato, and Obito.

(KakaYamaObito are deaged by the time-travel to 10-13ish. The kids are deaged to 3-4. Everyone has memories to just after the fourth war or so.)

Karin sensed T7 and tagalong pretty much the second they popped out of Kamui, and told Sasuke, but he correctly guessed that Naruto would hunt him down eventually, and said they should enjoy the peace and quiet while they had it.

Sai pulls emotionless creepy smiles in an attempt to freak out Madara but since Madara's whole thing initially was "less children in war," he's... mostly just sad. Izuna wants to know who made his brother cry.

Madara makes a vaguely misogynistic comment that's typical for the period and Sakura just. Breaks his tibia.

Naruto is genuinely trying to treat Madara with the kind of respect a caretaker that Attempts To Care And Do Good By Them deserves, because Naruto is a good egg, but he's... three again. Which means he's a Hellion.

The literal toddlers (Naruto and Sakura are three-ish, Sai is four-ish) are, in fact, toddlers, so nobody really expects them to be able to do anything. Nobody bothers to test them beyond the basics of like. Can walk? Can talk? Can maybe hold knife? Like don’t get me wrong, they’re very competent toddlers, but their hands can barely wrap around a kunai. Their bodies are tiny. Their bones only just stopped being soft!

That said, the “tweens” (re: adults who got deaged but Less) have to get tested for their skills. Kakashi downplays himself to what he imagines a semi-competent eleven-year-old to be capable of. He thinks of, like, Neji maybe? Good, but not suspiciously good.

Obito enters an intangible state and refuses to participate. He has a Mangekyo. His body is half-Zetsu. Stop bothering him. He doesn’t want to do anything. They assign him babysitting duty for Team Seven since he can obviously defend pretty well, and Kakashi vouches for his abilities as a fighter.

Yamato decides to try to be just a little worse than Kakashi but at one point he panics and does Mokuton on instinct and now the entire Uchiha compound is screeching because did they just steal a Main Family Senju kid by accident?

Yamato: Should I tell them I was a science experiment? Kakashi: No.

Pranks galore! None of the other time-travelers even try to stop Naruto, except maybe Yamato.

Obito at the Uchiha compound is mostly "I don't want to participate" and then just uses Kamui to be intangible until people leave him alone. If it's not another time-traveler or Madara, he's not interested. He doesn't even care that much about Sai or Yamato, actually, so if it's not an original T7 member, he doesn't care, and if it's Madara, he's just here to make things Difficult.

The Kyuubi wanders up to the Uchiha compound one day and everyone's preparing for a battle, even Madara isn't confident that he can-- [BANG] "KURAMA!" [delighted squealing]

Naruto now has a pet. The entire clan is terrified. Kurama pokes his nose at Naruto's stomach and disappears into the memory of a seal.

Madara, frantically writing a letter to Hashirama "What do I do if my toddler is possessed?!?"

Hashirama: You have a toddler?!?!?! OMG you should organize playdates with Tobirama's kids! Madara: I'M GOING TO QUESTION THAT LATER, PLEASE HELP WITH THE POSSESSION THING

Kurama hunts down Naruto, and the Jinchuuriki situation is very much in the realm of "Dis Mine" Also a bit of "If I'm in the brat, there's at least one Mangekyo user in hearing distance who can and will risk his life to prevent brainwashing. (Kakashi. It’s Kakashi.)

Naruto: Kurama's one of my best friends! Every time traveler: Yeah, that tracks. Madara: [teakettle screeching]

Per @firebirdeternal​: I'm just loving the visual of Giant Nightmare Terror Kurama kneeling down and pressing his nose to Naruto's Smol Chubby Toddler self and closing his eyes while Naruto pets him and giggles and every single battle-ready Uchiha is just. "wat"

Everybody else: Cool so Madara adopted a witch Uchiha Elders: We need to be careful of this horrible creature The younger generation of Uchiha: Okay that was weirdly serene and adorable and frankly the brat is really likeable when he's not being adhd as hell I think this is actually pretty dope.

Madara really wants to be a Good Dad but he has no idea how he ended up being "a dad" in the first place. He just! He cares a lot about this random assortment of kids! Some of them are from prominent clans and there should be search parties for the Senju kid with the Mokuton, or the Hatake brat, or the Uzumaki that doesn't look Uzumaki but definitely feels Uzumaki.... and SURE the only Uchiha of the bunch is a stranger who hates him for no reason Madara can come up with, but! He wants to be a good authority figure!

At least the Uzumaki appreciates that he's trying.

Kakashi still has a prize copy of Icha Icha and nobody in the Uchiha compound does a thorough check of his reading material until like three months in.

He is blamed for Naruto developing the Oiroke, because where ELSE would a toddler get such ideas? (Yamato and Obito both tell him he brought this on himself.)

Naruto waits until a Big Important Meeting lets out, something about tithes or a merchant contract, and just pulls a Harem no Jutsu in front of the entire group of Elders And Main Family. First he does a Mass Shadow Clone, which makes everyone turn on Sharingan because Fancy New Techniques to steal! Sure, they were late on the shadow clones, but the kid is clearly gearing up for something! The something is Oiroke.

Anime Nosebleeds everywhere. Most of the elders were hit. Izuna was hit. Madara is not bleeding from the nose, but he is very upset about having semi-accidentally sharingan-memorized his weird adoptee’s Sexy Older Female Alter Ego. There is yelling.

Naruto’s like “Oh, I missed some!” and decides to try again with Reverse Harem no Jutsu because there are old ladies among the Elders, and maybe some straight women representing a guild, and maybe some gay guys he missed! Madara is still not bleeding. (He’s very demi and tbh Naruto only would have succeeded if he’d tried to use Hashirama’s face. Naruto does not know this. He just figures Madara is ace like Sasuke and that no variant is going to work.)

Izuna gets another nosebleed and is just like “Well, this is not how I planned on coming out as bi, but--” “Izuna, I literally do not care about you being bi as long as one of us has an heir at some point, I’m more upset about the fact that my child has been corrupted!”

Back in the Senju compound, there is... a lot of screaming, honestly, but every time Karin and Suigetsu start trying to kill each other again, Tobirama just shrugs and tells them not to break anything.

Very easy-going caretaker, really. He's got some very deadly toddlers in hand, but they're still just toddlers.

Sasuke: Yeah, I might want to go see my clan at some point. Suigetsu: Yeah, I might want to go see my clan at some point. Karin, clinging to Mito: Yeah, I want to go see my clan at some point. Juugo: Please never, ever take me to my clan. Ever. Please. I'll stay with Sasuke, thank you.

Naruto breaks out of the Uchiha compound the first time he enters Sage Mode, several months in (it took a while to get the privacy) because he feels Sasuke and lbr if Naruto knows where Sasuke is, nothing will stop him.

The Uchiha clansmen cannot catch the errant toddler. They fail to inform Madara until Naruto is already in Senju territory because nobody wanted to admit the toddler outmaneuvered them.

Naruto wasn’t sure how to get into the Senju Compound safely so he just goes full Kyuubi, bounds over the wall screaming SASUKEEEEE at the top of his lungs, and then shrinks back down to Tiny Brat size so he could hug his Bestest Friend Ever and cling like a limpet while Sasuke just sighs and stares at the wall.

Sakura ran after him.

Sai painted a bird and Yamato dragged Kakashi onto it to chase Naruto, because Kakashi is at a point of zen regarding Naruto's bullshit and fully trusts the kid to not die.

Obito refuses to look up from whatever he's doing and asks people why they think he cares.

“We told you to look after the toddlers!” “Why would you do that? Seems like poor planning on your part.”

Disappears when nobody's looking. Waits until the Ruckus at the Senju compound (where T7 has crashed in to tackle-hug Sasuke and Madara followed in and proceeded to get shouty, and nobody's dead or battling because they're too confused and also it's a comedy) has started to calm down, and then teleports in and demonstrates Mokuton just to make Madara's life harder when the Senju Elders start demanding answers.

His energy is very "I am here to make Madara's life harder" and Madara still doesn't know what he did wrong.

Madara: That brat has a Sharingan! Tobirama: Well THAT one has Mokuton! Obito: Yamato has it too. [angry teakettle noises]

Madara's first response to seeing Sasuke is to turn to Izuna and point aggressively at the toddler while making a tea-kettle noise "He looks just like you!" "He's four, he barely looks like anything!"

Naruto, tugging at Madara's hakama: You need to make a village with Hashirama so I can see Sasuke more often, cuz I don't wanna ditch you guys, but I gotta see Sasuke! He's my best friend! Madara, who is aware that he could fight this child but really doesn't want to, and also knows that a tantrum thrown by Naruto or Sasuke is capable of leveling mountains: Right, yes, we'll get right on that.

tbh Madara wants the village anyway but "The bijuu-whisperer said he wants it to happen" is a great way to push things forward.

I hate to point this out but aren't there too many parallels between Sasuke and Hinata? Both belong to prestigious clans, both their fathers are leaders of their clans, both of them had sibling rivalry but there was also a lot of love, both wanted approval of their fathers, the absence of which bothers them both, even appearance. Whatever parallels you mentioned are true, in a sense. But those parallels are something which both of them had no control over. It's like saying, I have black hair, you have black hair. We are sooo similar.

But I will tell you what differences they have and how it impacted Naruto.

Sasuke is a sassy, straight forward person. Hinata is horribly shy.

Sasuke purposefully pokes and teases Naruto. Hinata stops at 'Naruto-Kun'.

Sasuke along with Iruka Sensei were the most important people in Naruto's life. Hinata was never even in his second tier list which had Jiraiya, Kakashi and Sakura.

Sasuke had his own goals in his life. Hinata basically had no ambition other than stalking her 'Naruto-Kun'.

Sasuke reached out to Naruto when he was alone. Hinata was just stalking and did nothing.

Sasuke became an orphan who can understand how Naruto feels. Hinata still has a family but can never understand his pain.

Sasuke worked his ass off for an entire day to the point of getting injured to get his father's approval by doing a grand Katon: Goukakyu No Jutsu. Hinata just got crumbled by her father's attitude.

Sasuke succeeded in protecting Naruto from Haku. Hinata was just showing off and failed to remove even one chakra rod from Naruto against Pain.

Sasuke unknowingly improved Naruto's growth in his Genin Days. Meaning Sasuke is Naruto's strength. Hinata....well, nothing to say. She could've warned Naruto about not to go for a Close Combat with Neji before the Chunin Exams.

Sasuke adored his brother Itachi so much. After knowing the truth, he just gave into vengeance to the point of crushing Danzo into million pieces by the mention of Itachi's name from that ugly mouth. Hinata was wetting herself at the thought of Naruto's hand over her brother's fresh corpse.

Sasuke's voice in anime always sounds Confident and Arrogant. Hinata's voice in the anime somehow gave me Shy and Hentai-ish vibes. If only her voice was like Tsunade and Temari, then this point won't exist.

Sasuke, when it comes to battle, can analyze the opponent's abilities with the help of his Sharingan and help Naruto from his Impulsive 'fight first think later' attitude. Hinata, with her Byakugan, ummmm..... nothing to say. Useless.

Sasuke's brother, Itachi, all he had to do was to share his power with Naruto to take care of Sasuke. Hinata's brother, Neji had to die a pointless death to tell Naruto to take care of Hinata. PUKE!!!!🤮🤮🤮🤮

Sasuke can say pages and pages about Naruto's childhood to Boruto. Hinata can't say anything meaningful about Naruto other than naughty, trouble making and cool.

How do you think Hashirama and Madara would be in a Road to Ninja version?

I remember once reading a Hashimada fic (which I never finished RIP) that was about Madara appearing in the RTN universe and the 3 things that stucked with me were:

1.- Madara was the first Hokage (something that Madara thought was horrible when he saw his sculpted face on the Hokage mountain 🤣)

And personally I think that it would not have been like that even in the RTN universe because we didn't see his face along with the other faces of Hokages in the movie (Yeah, apparently I'm basing myself on a movie which I'm not even sure if it's canon or not, even though Kishimoto wrote it) and the RTN characters didn't seem to even know who Madara is.

2.- Hashirama having his bowlcut as an adult

And I agree with the Madara from that fanfic, it looks awful on him. Hashirama, babe, I'm sorry but the only ones who can rock that style are Guy Sensei and Rock Lee, I know you just were trying to be cool but it doesn't suite you.

3.- Tobirama was a porn writer

Instead of being a fan of forbidden jutsu and creating justus, he wrote porn novels a la Jiraiya. And I'll hold that headcanon with my dead hands.

The only other fanfic that places the founders in the RTN universe is one where the protagonist is Mito (it's an interesting one-shot that pairs her with Itama 🤔)

She was kind of a shy person 🤔? And so it was Tobirama 🤣 which I found fun.

Hashirama, as the first fanfic I mentioned, was the Tobirama of the place (saddenly Madara wasn't in this fic).

So I would like to know what are your versions of the founders (or only Hashirama and Madara if it is too much) in the RTN universe! And how do you think things would be

Hmm, RTN is an interesting concept to me but, to be honest, I don't think Konoha would exist if a lot of personalities got flipped 😂 I haven't read any RTN fics with the founders, but if you, or anyone else, have links at hand I'd love to check them out 👀

1. Madara

Here's the big one and the crux of why I don't think the village would exist. Typically I characterize Madara as an extremely responsible man who internalizes things when he shouldn't, takes himself way too seriously, is aggressive and abrasive even to people he loves sometimes, but genuinely loves the people closest too him. Reversing this would make a character that slacks off, takes no responsibility, and is completely passive in life and has fleeting attachments to others around him. Assuming he wouldn't die on the battlefield, I could see the RTN "alternate" personality coming about of Madara's being so overpowered and competent that he loses interest and distances himself from things before he can get attached and lose them.

It makes building a village very hard though. (At first I was tempted to go RTN Sasuke route and maybe RTN!Madara is a little more openly flirty than canon!Madara, but the passivity and refusal to take responsibility would be the "core" qualities for me.)

2. Hashirama

Hashirama is a bit weird because he has a lot of surface-level "conflicting" traits in canon. He is optimistic but he pushes beyond his natural attitude and uses it as a mask to hide instead of addressing his feelings. He's mischievous, likes jokes and games, and can be a bit hedonistic with his pleasure but can equally be serious when necessary and will willingly sacrifice for others around him. And simultaneously, Hashirama and Madara are connected by a shared sense of idealism but also anger. Hashirama is a very kind, but extremely angry, man. I think a RTN!Hashirama would share a kind of apathy of RTN!Madara but instead of passivity his lack of anger would manifest as cruelty. Because canon!Hashirama is angry but his anger is usually a righteous kind. I don't think RTN!Hashirama would go out of his way to be cruel, but he doesn't have the empathy of canon!Hashirama, especially to others' suffering. He enjoys fighting just a bit too much and has no qualms about killing. In his mind, he should always come first in any situation and prioritizing (or even considering) others' is effort and him going out of his way to be "nice" and the other should be thankful. Similarly if he feels any negative emotion, he won't bottle it up and swallow it down, he'll immediately address it, usually confrontationally. RTN!Hashirama is as intelligent as his canon counterpart but he doesn't suffer fools and he hates it when people underestimate him. He's pretty proud and vain, tbh.

I really don't think the above would make him the "Tobirama" of RTN verse. To me Hashirama and Tobirama have different core values and perspectives and inverting Hashirama's doesn't make it become Tobirama's, if that makes sense. This one is also wordy bc I immediately knew how RTN!Madara would be RTN!Hashirama is a bit harder to pin down. But I hope it's clear why I have doubts about the village existing...maybe if RTN!Hashirama got it in his mind as a pet project for the hell of it, that he'd be a better leader for the country and not just the Senju alone, and RTN!Madara liked the idea of no responsibility and being able to detach even further than he already was? But that's still kind of grasping for a reason.

3. Hashimada

Equally I think any Hashirama/Madara relationship would be ehhh. They definitely wouldn't have the overwhelming bond of their canon counterparts, and it could be a relationship ripe for unhappiness. The closest I can think of to making the ship work is RTN!Madara would be drawn to Hashirama's absurd level of self-confidence and able to let the casual cruelty slide off instead of getting worked up about it. In a way RTN!Hashirama is stable and predictable. If he's pretty overpowered, there's less of a chance RTN!Madara would lose him, so their relationship isn't deep but it's more or less dependable and Madara knows exactly what he's going to get. In contrast RTN!Hashirama has an audience in the form of RTN!Madara and a partner that's not going to push back against his ideas. RTN!Madara doesn't ask for much and he doesn't complain when RTN!Hashirama puts himself first. He doesn't want, or might not be capable of, the deep emotional bond their canon counterparts have. RTN!Madara wouldn't leave Konoha (if it existed) in the AU, because he doesn't really care. If someone upset RTN!Hashirama and he decided to leave to 'do it right' RTN!Madara would probably follow, maybe out of some loyalty for RTN!Hashirama but mostly because it's what's easiest.

4. Tobirama

The core of Tobirama's character to me is prioritizing logic over emotion and both a conscious and unconscious failure to realize he can't completely eliminate emotion. Tobirama loves his brother, he's curious and has a desire to find out what makes things work and is willing to bend morality to get results if it'll serve a greater good. He's very aware of the unfairness of the world but believes it's an unspoken truth of humanity and can only be mitigated through logical means, but never completely erased. He'll be the sacrificial lamb, the one that works in shadows so his brother can have his utopian dream. Despite everything, he loves his genin, the strongest bonds he has aside from Hashirama, and does try to instill in them lessons he think will help them and lead to peace and stability in the village. He's still influenced by the prejudices of his time and can never find it in him to truly forgive the Uchiha.

A RTN!Tobirama would be a man ruled by emotion. Him writing erotica all day definitely could be one way this manifests lol. But overall he's sensitive and spiritual and can't stand the idea of killing. He and RTN!Hashirama don't get along and he actively tries to avoid his brother. RTN!Tobirama has equally strong principles as canon!Tobirama, but they're pacifist in nature and while he likes his studies, he prefers to be out talking to people and learning from them first hand. He's very naive and can be easily taken advantage of and he has trouble focusing on any one thing for too long. No matter how many times this happens, he never can harden his heart or be overly suspicious of others. RTN!Tobirama would most likely be the one support peace in this AU. He embraces the Uchiha and all the Senjus past enemies with open arms, almost to a foolish degree. It'd be a bad idea if he became hokage in this AU because he's a terrible negotiator and has a bad people-pleasing streak and struggles with long-term tactics. With the exception of RTN!Hashirama, who he considers an aberration who doesn't have a soul, humans at their core all have good intentions at heart.

5. Mito

I characterize Mito as a very level-headed woman. Her marriage to Hashirama is political in nature but they grow to be good friends and she never expected to fall in love and she's glad Hashirama didn't want a traditional wife. Mito is devoted to her community work (she works hands-on with people in the village), she seeks out connections with others and, despite the distance, remains close with her family in Uzushio, constantly writing them letters. She's spiritual and follows the Uzumakis' beliefs (not gonna list this OoT spoiler lol) and studies fuinjutsu in her spare time, something she's done since she was a child. She is willing to sacrifice if it meant protecting something she considered greater than herself, much to her own personal detriment. She loves and is proud of her children and grandchildren, but if she had a choice, she would have chosen to remain childless, she finds her true calling elsewhere.

RTN!Mito, similarly to RTN!Tobirama, is ruled by emotions. She dreams of one day making a good marriage for herself and centers romance and being a mother as her ideal life, but she's extremely picky when it comes picking the perfect husband. RTN!Mito knows how much she's worth and she refuses to settle and will not even entertain the idea of an arranged marriage. She has a hard time forming long-lasting, deep bonds with other people and views starting her own family as the solution to this problem. At times she can be a bit absent-minded and unintentionally selfish, but she's not actively malicious. She blusters a lot and depending on the situation can come off as cold and uncaring, but it's only to hide the depth of her true feelings and loneliness. In this AU she would absolutely refuse to marriage RTN!Hashirama. Nothing on hell or earth, could make her change her mind.

Mito is such a blank-slate character it feels like writing an oc more than a canon character, tbh. And this is something I don't see brought up a lot but a "heart full of love" to combat the kyuubi's hatred to me has never been exclusive to romantic or familial (to children) love. *cough* I want a complex female character who's not vilified for not wanting to have children and/or regretting having them *cough* Mito's "love" was for the people of Konoha and Uzushio. My personal headcanon regarding her and Hashirama's child (I don't think she had more than one) was that she was dedicated to her son, but quickly realized being a mother wasn't her dream or something she even actively liked. The kid was well-cared for and she was dutiful towards him, but Hashirama was the parent that loved and embraced him with his whole heart and it led to some tension between Mito and her son as the kid could tell the difference and neither of them were "wrong" to feel the way they did. This is why Tsunade was shown with Hashirama instead of Mito, he was a lot more present in her life when she was young (instead of Kishi just not having made Mito as a character yet). But after Hashirama and Tsunade's dad died (and then Nawaki), she and Mito grew close but it was definitely more of a friendship or student/mentor relationship rather than a traditional grandmother/granddaughter relationship but both were satisfied with it and loved eachother. Likewise I didn't want RTN!Mito's characterization to be shallow and hit misogynistic undertones with her being an "opposite" to Mito's calm, level-headed, focused on her work/passions characterization.

6. Closing thoughts

#1: Wow this got long #2: I feel conflicted about RTN because it seemed to flip surface-level characteristics instead of deep characterizations, and ignored flaws altogether. The ones above, esp. Hashirama and Madara's, are kind of dark in a way? But that's the only way it makes sense to me...Gai and Lee caring about style and being stylish is a funny joke but if you were to actually poke and prod and say their personalities were inverted, neither of them would be top-notch ninja as we know...unless I'm just completely misremembering RTN because I realize it's been years since I saw it lol. Anyway, hope this was entertaining!
