Hey! Hope you’ve been well. I know you smell incredibly well, so I need your tips. Please, what do I need to smell good all through the day, everyday? How do I know what scent I like and would fit me? What steps do you take and what are your favourite scents? Thank you!
Hi! I love this question
Smelling good starts from the inside : make sure your gut is functioning properly (are you having daily bowel movements?), support lymphatic drainage by moving everyday even if its just walks, drink water and other mineral rich drinks such as herbal infusions or broths, add chlorophyll to your water from time to time, and have a mindfulness practice that you do everyday (stress greatly impacts our body odor!)
Then, when it comes to your daily hygiene, use soaps/gels that don’t interfere too much with your skin’s microbiome, as that can also cause bad body odor, even if the soap/gel smells nice! I recommend the oil cleanser by la roche posay « Lipikar », followed by a neutral shower gel for further cleansing. Use a feminine unscented wash for your intimates and don’t forget your butt too lol, the Rael gel is lovely for that. Exfoliate your body once or twice a week.
Do armpit detoxes : clay + acv and rinse when it dries. You can do this once a week, and then bi-weekly or monthly for maintenance.
Instead of using deodorants, I suggest swiping a very gentle aha/bha toner it neutralizes odor and helps with brightening your underarms. I tend to use pure musk after that as well, just for the scent.
As for knowing which scent suits you, try out different perfumes until you find one that literally merges perfectly with your natural body’s scent. When you find it you will know, because it’ll actually feel like second skin, you won’t be able to get enough of it. Once you find it, look up the notes and start experimenting with other perfumes that have similar notes, then you’ll have found your « niche » :)

After a little while, Merle was now calm, but Rick didn't release him from the handcuffs. After making sure T-Dog was okay and helped him sit on the ground and lean against the wall, you went to look down at the streets, there were walkers all around. Andrea joined you and she frowned lightly as she spoke, "My God, it's like Times Square down there."
"Yeah," you muttered and turned to your group.
Morales looked at T-Dog, who was holding the CB walkie, "How's that signal?"
"Like Dixon's brain--Weak," T-Dog said, making the older Dixon show him the middle finger.
Morales sighed, "Keep trying."
"Why?" Andrea asked, turning to them, "There's nothing they can do. Not a damn thing."
Andrea walked past them and bend down to unzip your backpack.
Morales looked at Rick, "Got some people outside the city is all. There's no refugee center. That's a pipe dream."
"Then she's right," Rick said as you sat down next to T-Dog, "We're on our own. It's up to us to find a way out."
"Good luck with that," Merle spoke up, "These streets ain't safe in this part of town from what I hear." He looked at Andrea, "Ain't that right, sugar tits?" You raised an eyebrow and rolled your eyes as he continued, "Hey, honeybunch, what say you get me out of these cuffs, we go off somewhere and bump some uglies? Gonna die anyway."
"I'd rather," Andrea told him, standing up and walking to your side.
"Rub muncher," Merle said, "I figured as much."
"'The streets ain't safe,'" Morales said, "Now there's an understatement."
"What about under the streets?" Rick asked and you frowned as you thought back. "The sewers?"
Morales frowned and looked at Glenn, "Hey, Glenn, check the alley. You see any manhole covers?"
Glenn walked to the other side of the roof, looking down the alley. He turned and walked back closer, "No, must be all out on the street where the geeks are."
"Maybe not," you said, making everyone look at you. You got up and continued, "Old building like this built in the '20s. Big structures often had, uh, drainage tunnels into the sewers in case of flooding down in the subbasements."
Rick raised his eyebrows, impressed, "How do you know?"
You shrugged lightly, "I've read about those structures one time... I have a photographic memory... I remember I've seen one in this building when I scoped this place up with Glenn."
Rick nodded lightly and looked at Morales before he looked back at you, "All right, then, lead the way."
You glanced at Glenn and then walked past him to the door. Rick, Glenn, Andrea and Morales followed you into the building. You walked all the way below to the basement, and you led everyone to the sewer entrance you memorized.
"This is it," you said as you peered inside with everyone, "It's the only thing in the building that goes down. But I've never gone down it. Who'd want to, right?"
When you met with silent, you glanced up and around to see they all were looking at you. Glenn glanced from everyone's faces to yours. You looked from them to the entrance, nervously, "Oh..."
"We'll be right behind you," Andrea assured you.
"No, you won't," you said as you looked at her, "Not you, I--"
"Why not me?" Andrea asked, cutting you off with a frown, "Think I can't?"
You hesitated to speak, but tried, "No. It just..."
Rick nodded to you in encouragement, "Speak your mind."
You let out a soft breath and looked around at everyone, "Look, until now I always came here by myself, or with only Glenn, in and out, grab a few things, no problem. The first time we bring a group, everything goes to hell."
Glenn nodded and you looked back at the rest, "No offense... If you want me to go down this hole, fine, but only if we do it my way."
Rick nodded, "All right."
"It's tight down there," you said as you glanced back inside, "If I run into something and have to get out quick, I don't want everyone all in there get stuck. I'll take one person." You looked at Rick, "Rick, I've seen how you shot, and I'd feel better if you were out in that store watching those doors, covering our ass." You looked at Andrea. "And you've got the other gun, so you should go with him." You looked at Glenn, "Glenn, you be my wingman, sounds okay?" Glenn nodded, and you looked at Morales, "Morales, you stay here, something happens, yell down to us, get us back up here in a hurry."
"Okay," Morales agreed with a nod.
"Okay, everybody knows their jobs," Rick said.
You looked at Glenn, who nodded. "All right," you said and put your flashlight in your mouth before climbing into the ladder and started to climb down.
Glenn copied you and followed you down the ladder.
You reached to the bottom and looked up to see Andrea and Rick walking away. "Careful down there, guys," Morales said as he peered down at you and Glenn.
"Yeah," you muttered as you and Glenn peered into the dark sewers. You glanced behind you at Glenn who shrugged lightly, and you turned back to the darkness as you shined your flashlights.
"Come on," you said softly and took a couple of steps forward before you lighted your flashlights down at a rat, who squealed and walked away.
You and Glenn followed it for a few minutes all the way to a grate. "Hey, can you cut through it?" Glenn asked.
"If we had a blowtorch," you answered with a soft sigh, and rubbed the back of your head. "I, uh, I don't have the items to make one like I did one time."
"What about Dale's hacksaw?"
"It won't do," you answered. You heard noises from the other side of the grate and shined your flashlight forward. A walker turned around to look at you and Glenn, eating a rat. It growled and reached forward, making you and Glenn jump back even if the walker couldn't get to you.
"Come on, come on," Glenn said as he grabbed a hold of your arm. He tugged you back and you both ran back all the way to the ladder. "Up, up."
Glenn moved so you climbed up first, while he glanced back to check the dark tunnel. "What happened?" Morales asked when you got up. Glenn got out after you a moment after.
"We can't get through," you said and walked past him to get to Rick and Andrea. You heard them following you and you rushed into the clothing store, just in time to see walkers had gotten through the outside doors and hitting the double doors.
"What did you find down there?" Rick asked.
"Not a way out," Morales told them.
"We need to find a way..." Andrea trailed off. "Soon."
"Come on," you said as you grabbed into Rick's arm and tugged him to the backdoor. You all ran up to the staircase and back to the roof where Merle and T-Dog were still there. Rick peered around the streets and then turned to you when you stepped over, "Got binoculars, by any chance?"
"Uh, yeah," you answered as you walked toward T-Dog who had your backpack near him. You opened it and diged inside. You pulled the black binoculars and walked back to Rick. "Here." You held it out and he took it.
"Thanks," he said and looked through them for a moment before he pointed to the side, "That construction site, those trucks." He held the binoculars to Morales, who then looked through them, "They always keep keys on hand."
Morales looked down the streets with a frown, "You'll never make it past the Walkers."
Rick looked over him at you, "You got me out of that tank."
"Yeah, but they were feeding," you reminded him, "They were distracted."
"Can we distract them again?" Rick asked.
"Right," Merle spoke up, and you all looked over at him. "Listen to him. He's onto something. A diversion, like on 'Hogan's Heroes'."
"They're drawn by sound, right?" Rick asked.
"Yeah, like dogs," you said, "They hear a sound, they come."
"What else?"
"Aside from they hear you?" Morales asked, "They see you, smell you and if they catch you, they eat you."
"They can tell us by smell?" Rick asked.
"Can't you?" Glenn asked.
"They smell dead, we don't," Andrea said as Rick thought of a plan, "It's pretty distinct."
You studied Rick's expression and you frowned, "You have something on your mind, don't you?" He looked over at you and you pointed at his face, "That face right there, my dad had the same expression when he was up to no good."
That comment made him smile a little and he patted you on the back, "Come on." He walked back to the door, and you glanced at everyone before you all followed.
"Hey! Wha' about me?!"
You turned to Merle and shrugged, "Just... stay here." He sent you a glare and you quickly followed everyone to the door, you looked at T-Dog who smirked at you for the comment you gave the older Dixon. You let out a chuckle as you closed the door, and you shook your head as you both walked down the stairs.
Your smile disappeared when you got to the clothing store again and saw the walkers still trying to get into the store. You tensed and turned to Rick, watching as he grabbed coats and gloves. "What are we doing?" you asked.
"You and I--were going to go out there, and get that van, covered in Walkers' blood," Rick said as he handed you a coat and a pair of gloves.
You froze as you held the items to your chest. "What?" you asked softly, hoping you heard wrong.
Rick didn't answer and simply handed the rest of the coats and gloves to Glenn, T-Dog, Andrea, and Morales, all four of them were staring at him like he just made the most stupid and dangerous plan ever... which for you it was.
"If bad ideas were an Olympic event, this would take the gold," Glenn said, glancing at you nervously.
"He's right," Morales said and took a step to Rick, "Just stop, okay? Take some time to think this through."
"How much time?" Rick asked. "They already got through one set of doors, that glass won't hold forever."
Morales looked at you and then quickly at Rick, taking a deep breath, then he spoke, "I'll go with you then instead of Audery."
"No," you said quickly, making them all look at you. You nodded, "I'll go, I'll do it."
Rick nodded but the others were worried, which you appreciated their concern. "You don't have to," Andrea told you.
"I'm faster. I'll go with him." You looked at Glenn and nodded. "I got this." You looked at Rick, "But... I kinda of regretting saving your ass back there."
Rick didn't seem to take offend by that and just gave you a small smile and walked past you to the back door. You all put on the coats and gloves as you took a deep breath and you all followed.
Glenn opened the back door, and Rick and Morales ran out, and grabbed one of the Walkers that Morales and T-Dog killed, drugging the body inside.
Glenn closed the door, and you walked to the side. "Here, honey," Andrea told you as she stood behind you and lifted your braid hair up to the top of your head, and placed Glenn's hat on your head.
"Thank you," you said softly, and she rubbed your back before stepping away.
You all looked down at the body while Rick put on a face shield, smashing a fire axe box with a crowbar. He grabbed the fire axe and walked back to your side.
Rick held the fire axe up, about to chop the dead Walker but he stopped. He put down the axe and went through the body's pockets. You watched as he pulled out a wallet and looked through. "Wayne Dunlap," he read, "Georgia license. Born in 1979." He handed a card to Glenn, who stood next to you, "He had $28 in his pocket when he died... And a picture of a pretty girl. 'With love, from Rachel.' He used to be like us--Worrying about bills or the rent or the Super Bowl. If I ever find my family, I'm gonna tell them about Wayne."
Rick put the wallet back into Wayne's pocket, standing up, putting on his face shield. "One more thing..." Glenn trailed off, "He was an organ donor."
There was a moment of silence, before Rick started to hack away at the Walker, making you all look away in disgust.
"Madre de Dios," Morales muttered.
"Oh God," Glenn said, looking away.
You looked away again when Rick chopped again. You closed your eyes and listened to him chopping.
"Keep chopping," you heard Rick's voice and opened one eye to see him handing the face shield and the axe to Morales.
Glenn groaned in disgust, "I am so gonna hurl."
"Later," Rick told him, as Morales started to chop the Walker a few times. "Everybody got gloves? Don't get any on your skin or in your eyes."
You froze when everyone started to dig into the body. "Oh, God," you groaned in disgust and tried not to move when you saw Andrea and Glenn approaching you with the guts. "Oh, God."
You closed your eyes and felt them rubbing them on your coat. You lifted your head up and opened your eyes and glanced down at Rick; Morales and T-Dog were rubbing guts on him as well, and you quickly looked up.
"Oh, God," Glenn said.
"This is really bad," you said and lowered your head down to see him and Andrea still putting more guts around you, "Oh, this is really bad!"
"Think about something else--Puppies and kittens," Rick said to you.
"Dead puppies and kittens," T-Dog muttered quietly yet you heard him. You tried to think only about Max, but you couldn't, all you could think about is the walker's guts rubbing on your body, and the smell.
"God!" you said and quickly turned around and vomited.
"That is just evil. What is wrong with you?" you heard Andrea snapping.
"I'm sorry," you muttered and cleaned your lips with your cleaned gloves.
"It's okay, honey," Andrea said as she rubbed your back. "You alright?"
You hummed as you nodded and turned back. "Sorry," you muttered again.
"You suck," Glenn said, looking at Rick.
"Do we smell like them?" Rick asked.
"Yeah," Andrea answered. "Audrey." You looked at her, and saw she pulled off one of her gloves and had her gun in her hand. "Just in case." She lifted the side of your coat and tucked the gun in your pants.
You nodded in thanks as Rick spoke, "If we make it back, be ready."
"What about Merle Dixon?" T-Dog asked.
Rick pulled off one of his gloves, digging into his pocket. He pulled out the handcuffs key and tossed it to T-Dog. T-Dog looked at it and walked away. Rick looked at Morales as he put back his gloves, "Give me the axe." Morales handed him the axe. "We nee--we need more guts."
Rick started to chop again, and you quickly looked away.
"Oh, man."
****
"Oh, I hate you, I really really hate you," you said softly as Rick put the walker's hands around your shoulder.
"I'm sorry," he said as Glenn handed you a crowbar and him the fire axe, "Now, come on."
"I can't believe I agreed to it in the end," you muttered as you and him walked to the door.
Morales opened the door and you and Rick walked out slowly. You saw two walkers walking around the area and you and Rick exchanged a quick look before you both mimicked the walkers. The Walkers briefly looked at you but then turned away.
You closed your eyes briefly in relief but opened them quickly. You dragged yourself underneath a bus before coping with how they walk with Rick. You glanced around at the many, many walkers wandering around, as you walked along side with Rick.
"I can't believe it's working," you whispered.
"Don't draw attention," Rick whispered. A Walker walked between the two of you, looking back and forth from you to Rick before walking past.
You heard above you the thunders, and a moment after you felt water drops. You glanced up and saw the sun had disappeared behind thick, dark clouds. Oh no, oh no! you thought as you glanced around nervously as the rain started pouring down.
The rain will wash away the scent from your blood-soaking coats! You realized that as you noticed a few walkers staring at you and Rick.
You glanced at Rick nervously, "The smell is washing off. Isn't it?"
"No, it's not," Rick assured you, but you knew he was just saying it to try and keep you calm, which wasn't working when you both noticed a walker's stare lingering on him. "Well, maybe."
As more guts washed off, you knew the walkers realized that you and Rick were alive when one of them charged at you.
You jumped back and Rick crushed its head with the axe. "Run!" he said as he grabbed your arm and you both ran down the street with the walkers chasing after you. Rick killed a few of them before you reached to the fence blocking off the parking lot from the rest of the street. The two of you made it into a large van just as the fence collapsed and the walkers broke through.
"Go, go!" you said, and Rick drove back out from the parking lot and away from the walkers. "Oh, God. Oh, God. They're all over that place."
"You need to draw them away," Rick said, "Those roll-up doors at the front of the store--That area? That's what I need cleared. Raise your friends. Tell them to get down there and be ready."
You looked at him with a frown, "And I'm drawing the geeks away how? I--I missed that part."
"Noise."
You looked around the empty street and spotted a sport car. "Oh..." You looked at Rick, "Can I have your part of this plan?"
Rick raised his eyebrow, slightly amused. "You got this."
You leaned back and looked around the area and out of your window. You quickly got out and ran to the red sport car. You smushed the window of the driver side with the crowbar, tripping the alarm, and swiftly reached inside and unlock the door before getting in and hot wiring it.
"Yes," you said and closed the door. You leaned out the window and signaled Rick. He nodded and you leaned back and speeded out of the street, distracting walkers around the area.
You lifted your walkie-talkie and spoke to the others on the roof, "Those roll-up doors at the front of the store facing the street, meet us there and be ready!"
You drove near the store, and stopped, "Come on. Come on. Get closer. Get closer. Come on. Come on."
Most of the Walkers came to the car and you quickly drove backward. The walkers followed you and you continued to drive. You drove off and away from the street and glanced to the mirrors before holding up the walkie-talkie, "Everyone safe?!"
There was a moment of silent before you heard Glenn's voice, "Yeah! We all good! Except... Merle is still trap on the roof."
You looked forward in sadness, you didn't like Merle one bit, but his brother on the other hand...
Daryl will not like this.
You drove out of the city and into the highway but stopping. You quickly got out and popped the hood of the car. You opened it and quickly looked around to stop the alarm. You found the part and took it out, stopping the annoying alarm.
You through the part to the side and moved back into the car. You drove without stopping all the way to your camp. You saw everyone rushing forward as you stopped the car in the middle of the camp.
You leaned over the door and smiled teasingly at Lori who was the closest, "Hey, my sexy girlfriend!"
Lori laughed and shook her head as you got out of the car. "Nice car," she complimented as she stepped closer, and you both embraced.
"Thanks, I stole it," you said, chuckling as you broke the hug, and she laughed.
"Audrey!" You looked over to Shane and watched Carl running toward you with Max, who barked in excitement to see you.
"Hey, bud!" you said, kneeling down and holding out your arms. Carl jumped into your arms and hugged you tightly while Max jumped to your knee and barked in your face, making you laugh.
"Where's Andrea? Why is she not with you?"
You let go after a moment of Carl and stood up before looking at Amy, Andrea's sister. "She's okay. Everyone's okay. Except Merle."
"Then why is she not with you?" she asked about her sister before looking over your shoulder. You turned and watched the van approaching and parking at the entrance. Andrea was the first one who jumped from the back of the van, and you watched the sisters reunited.
You watched everyone reuniting before glancing at Lori to see her taking her son to the RV. Carl told you the day you met that his father was shot before the outbreak and was in a coma, but now he was told he was dead.
You looked down at Max and picked him up into your arms. Max was a huge help with the kids; playing with him was a good distraction for them, especially to Carl.
"Hey, helicopter boy! Come say hello," you head Morales calling out, and you looked to the van. Rick got out of the driver side, and you saw his expression turn to shock and disbelief. You followed his gaze to Shane, who stared at him in shock.
"Dad!"
You looked toward Carl and saw him running toward Rick with a huge smile, and Lori followed. Rick took a few steps forward before he bend down and pulled Carl into his arms. You stared in shock as you realized Rick was the father Carl spoke about.
"You're kidding me," you said softly, and couldn't help but smile softly with the rest of the group as Rick embraced Lori and Carl.

While on standby for their next mission, some drastic measures may start leading to a new connection.
Tumblr media
"Hunter, that needs to be more to the left."
Hunter brings his head back out of the engineering bay he and Tech are working on. Both brothers have removed their upper armor to make it easier to reach into the tight spots. "Tech, why did you ask for my help if you're just going to correct everything I do?"
"Because, I need an extra set of hands, Hunter. The General is busy working and you sent Crosshair and Wrecker out for supplies."
Bryn chuckles at the two arguing brothers before turning back to the holomap in front of her.
"Well if you keep telling me what to do, then you'll have to grow the extra set of hands yourself." Hunter snaps back.
Tech sighs. "I'm just saying, if that component is not at the optimal angle, then it may not remain stable-"
"It's attached to the ship, Tech. What's next?"
Footsteps signal the return of Crosshair and Wrecker, the latter sets down two large crates as his brother hefts two packs from his shoulders.
"The med supplies are in here, General." Wrecker says, pointing to one of the large crates.
Bryn smiles, "Thanks, Wrecker. You guys get everything else?"
"Apparently ration packs for this sector are in short supply, so bars will have to do." Crosshair says. "Much to Wrecker's disappointment."
His brother grumbles in response as a few metal clanks and choice curses from Hunter float over from the side of the Marauder.
"That sounds fun." Crosshair says, placing a toothpick in his mouth.
Bryn rolls her eyes. "Yeah, I think Hunter is getting close to strangling Tech with one of the exhaust hoses."
Wrecker chuckles. "Heh, there's the quick way and the Tech way."
"What's the word?" Crosshair asks.
Bryn shrugs, "Command sent high praises for our work in our first month on active duty, but nothing on a new assignment. They'll let us know where they want us soon."
Wrecker looks over Bryn's shoulder. "Whatcha working on?"
"Well I'm supposed to be finishing the mission report for our work on Lutrilla, but instead I'm working on this for Obi-wan." Bryn replies.
"General Kenobi?" Crosshair's interest is piqued and he moves to stand on Bryn's other side.
"Yeah, long time friend of mine." Bryn mumbles. "He's currently stationed on Ques and the terrain is giving them some trouble in clearing out the Separatists. I'm trying to see if I can come up with something to help."
The sniper's lip curls, "Do that a lot? Help Kenobi?"
Bryn hums, turning the map. "We help each other. We came up together in the Order, he's a good man, and a better leader."
"High praises coming from you, I'm sure." Crosshair says, though not without a hint of sarcasm.
"What's their issue with the terrain?" Wrecker says, standing on the other side of the table.
Bryn points to a section on the map. "The Seppies have taken this canyon as their central point of operation. Their base is halfway between the north and south entrances and they have battalions on the high ground posted along both the east and west rims. It's basically impossible to get down to their base. What do you two think?"
Wrecker brings his hand to his chin in thought. "Ques you said? That system has a network of catacombs going through its ridges. They were drainage and aqueducts for some ancient civilization there, pretty much abandoned now. It'd be a risk, but if they could find a way to get into the tunnels outside of the Seppie's sights, a few carefully placed detonations, and they should be able to blow straight through the canyon wall right outside the main base."
"That could work." Crosshair agrees. "If they make enough noise when they storm the base, they could draw the forces off the rims and into the canyon, making way for a second wave of Republic air support to claim the high ground."
Bryn smiles at her teammates, "That sounds perfect. Obi-wan has the special forces that could handle the catacombs and the numbers to take the ridges. Where did you hear about those tunnels, Wrecker?"
He just shrugs. "I was reading up on the history of some antique weapon classes and came across some records about them."
Before anyone can say anything else, a large bang comes from the Marauder. Bryn, Wrecker and Crosshair run over to see Hunter is lying on his back, eyes closed, and Tech is shaking his brother's arm.
"Tech what happened!?" Bryn shouts, sliding to a stop on her knees at Hunter's shoulder.
"I-I don't know General. I told him that component could become unstable at the wrong angle."
Her gaze follows Tech's finger that's pointing to a small metal part lying a few feet away from Hunter.
Bryn's eyes widen and she elbows Tech out of the way, nearly causing him to fall over. "Move." She leans her cheek close to Hunter's face and places two fingers on his neck.
"It happened so quickly, but I think it hit him. At first he seemed okay, but then he just collapsed." Tech stammers out.
Wrecker's brow furrows as he watches the Jedi move to her hands and knees, locking her fingers together and positioning the heel of her hand over Hunter's sternum. "What are you-"
"Hunter's heart isn't beating. Shockpack in the med bay. Bright orange. Go." Bryn says.
Wrecker disappears as Bryn starts leaning all her weight onto her Sergeant's chest in rhythm. Crosshair can hear her muttering under her breath.
"fifteen... sixteen... seventeen..."
Wrecker returns with the case and sets it down at Hunter's side opposite Bryn. "Now what?" he asks.
Bryn stops pressing on Hunter's chest and pulls a vibroblade from its sheath on her thigh, sliding it through the front of the Sergeant's upper blacks. She immediately goes back to thrusting her hands into Hunter's chest. "Open the case. Put the pads on his chest like the picture and turn it on. Work around me." She says, her breath starting to become labored.
All the brothers freeze when Bryn suddenly leans down and presses her lips to Hunter's. The General is kissing their ori’vod.
After a couple seconds Bryn straightens back up and goes back to pushing into Hunter's chest. When she notices the squad frozen around her she barks at them, "I gave you an order!"
Her voice shakes Crosshair and Wrecker form their daze and they quickly work together to follow her instructions. They peel the backing off the sticky shock pads and press them to Hunter's chest. Wrecker presses the green 'on' button and a smooth voice comes from the shock pack.
'Device on. Pads attached. Analyzing heart rhythm. Do not touch the patient.'
Bryn stops her movements and holds her arms out to keep the brothers back.
'Shock advised.'
'Do not touch the patient. Deliver shock.'
Bryn reaches across Hunter and presses a big flashing button on the shockpack and Hunter's body jolts with electricity.
'Continue Compressions.'
Bryn immediately jumps back to Hunter's chest, sweat beginning to bead on her forehead. "Come on, Hunter. Come on." She mutters under her breath.
A few sickening cracks come from the Sergeant's chest and Tech adjusts his goggles. "It appears you have broken his ribs."
Crosshair balls up his fists. "She just broke his what?"
Tech peers over her shoulder. "Are you sure-"
"Of course. I'm sure." Bryn snaps as she continues pressing on Hunter's chest.
Crosshair reaches out and wraps his hand around one of her wrists, trying to stop her motions. "Do you really think I'm going to let you keep doing that?"
"Crosshair, please." She huffs, continuing against his tightening grip.
"How do we know you actually know what the hell you're doing-"
"How dare you. I'm trying to save him. You have to trust me." Her eyes flash with fire, making him release her.
She leans down and presses her lips to Hunter's again. The brothers look on helplessly as their General returns to compressing Hunter's chest.
After a mother minute, the eerily calm voice speaks from the shockpack again.
‘Analyzing heart rhythm. Do not touch the patient.’
Bryn holds her arms out over Hunter, waiting for the device.
'Shock advised.'
'Do not touch the patient. Deliver shock.'
This time, Tech reaches down and presses the flashing button on the orange device and Hunter's body jolts once more.
'Continue Compressions.'
Strands of hair fall into her face as Bryn braces against Hunter again. After she presses her lips to his once more she starts muttering under her breath.
"Come on Hunter. Breathe. Come back." Bryn feels a pull in the Force and she reaches out for it, pushing it through her palms into her Sergeant.
A tear falls from her face and hits Hunter's cheek. Suddenly, he takes a gasping breath, his eyes flying open. His brothers immediately lurch forward to be closer as Bryn takes her hands off him and leans back on her heels.
Hunter's eyes move frantically around him to get oriented. "Wh-what?"
He tries to sit up but Bryn presses a gentle hand to his shoulder to keep him laying flat. She shushes him gently, "It's okay, you're okay. Just lay still for a second."
Hunter blinks. "What happened?"
Bryn gives him a weak smile. "Your heart stopped."
"That component that you fitted blew off the ship and struck you." Tech remarks. "What I don't understand is how it caused this."
Bryn strokes a few strands of Hunter's hair. She responds without moving her eyes from him. "Commotio cordis. When an object hits someone in the chest in just the right spot at just the right time in their heartbeat, it causes the heart to stop."
Wrecker's eyes widen. "That can happen?"
"It's rare, but yes." Bryn nods as she peels the shock pack pads off of Hunter.
"Oh so that’s what our chest plates are for." He says sarcastically.
A laugh escapes Bryn as she shakes her head. Hunter tries to sit up again but groans in pain and lays back down.
"I get my heart stopped, but it's working now. Does someone want to tell me why my chest hurts so bad?" He moans.
"The General broke your ribs." Tech says simply.
Hunter looks back at Bryn who gives him an apologetic face. "Broken ribs or death. Those were your options." She simply replies. "Bacta patches should be on the ship. Do you think you can get up or do you want us to bring one to you?"
Hunter shakes his head. "No, I'm good. I can get up."
Bryn offers Hunter her hand and supports his back with the other as he gingerly sits up. Another groan passes his lips as he stands with additional help from Tech. The perma-bunk in the Marauder's med bay creaks slightly as Bryn and Tech sit him down on it, leaning him back on pillows.
"I'll leave you to it, General." Tech says.
As the door slides closed behind him, Bryn moves over to the med cabinet and pulls out the bin of bacta patches. After fishing out the correct size, she turns around to Hunter who's watching her intently.
The bunk creaks again as Bryn sits down on its edge. She peels the backing off the patch and gently presses it over the center of Hunter's chest where she felt his ribs break. Hunter hisses at the pressure.
"I know, I'm sorry." Bryn says, tossing the patch wrapper in the trash bin.
Hunter shakes his head. "Don't apologize. You saved my life."
Bryn gives him a smile as she reaches over to grab some trauma scissors off the counter. "These blacks are spent, I'm assuming you don't want them?" She says, gesturing to his cut upper blacks, revealing the continuation of his skull tattoo.
He laughs, "I don't know. This could be my new look."
Bryn rolls her eyes again as she cuts up each sleeve, allowing the fabric to fall from Hunter's figure. He leans forward with a grimace to allow Bryn to pull the shirt out from behind him.
"You're going to need to rest for a bit before you're back on your feet. With the bacta, a couple hours should be enough." Bryn says, standing up from the bunk. "Here, I can take your armor off to make you more comfortable."
Hunter nods his consent and Bryn gently slides his feet out of his boots and undoes the fastenings on his lower armor pieces, shifting him gently to remove them. In just his lower blacks, he settles into the medbunk, looking much more content. Bryn turns to leave the med bay, but Hunter grasps her wrist.
"Stay?" He asks, pleading with wide eyes.
His demeanor shocks Bryn for a moment, but the look on Hunter's face draws her back to the medbunk. Slowly, she sits back down on the bunk and scoots in next to Hunter. He turns his body to curl into her and rests his head on her chest, breathing in her sweet woody scent.
Bryn can feel his energy swirling, it's tense, jittery. "It's okay." She mutters.
"I've never heard of anything like that happening before."
Although Hunter put up a front of strength for his brothers, it is quickly slipping in Bryn's calming presence. She bites her lip as the miniscule tremble in Hunter's voice reminds her how little of the galaxy the clones have seen.
Bryn's arm wraps around his back. "I know that was scary."
It's barely noticeable when Hunter nods his head. "Different from battle. If you hadn't..."
She gently shushes him. "I've got you, just rest."
Hunter's breathing slows into little puffs of air as Bryn absentmindedly plays with his soft curls. He stirs for a second and mumbles something she can't quite hear.
"What was that?" She asks.
Hunter lets out a little huff of air. "Tech is never going to let this go."
Bryn laughs lightly, and rests her chin on the top of his head. "Next time, I'll work on the ship with Tech."
Tumblr media
The door to the medbay whooshes closed behind Bryn as she steps into the Marauder's hallway and straight into an armored figure.
"Wha- Crosshair." She says.
The sniper's lip curls at her. "Break anything else?"
Bryn shakes her head. "He just got to sleep, can we at least do this outside?"
Crosshair looks her up and down and turns to leave the Marauder without another word. Sighing, Bryn follows after.
Their boots crunch in the dirt as Crosshair stomps down a trail towards the nearby river. When he reaches the banks, he turns around to face the Jedi behind him. Bryn stands with her arms crossed. "Well, go ahead."
"Go ahead with what?" Crosshair sneers.
Bryn drops her arms, resting a hand on her belt. "You obviously have some choice words you want to say to me. I thought we were past this, Crosshair."
His temple twitches as he clenches his jaw. "We're taught to keep our opinions about superiors to ourselves." he spits out as if the words are poison.
Bryn's eyebrow twitches in amusement. "Well then, if that's how you want to do it." She shakes her head and straightens her posture to full attention. "I, Jedi Master Bryn-ayla del Caro, member of the Jedi High Council and General of the Galactic Army of the Republic, permit you, Clone Commando CT-9904, designation Crosshair, to speak freely without risk of penalty or court martial for misconduct or insubordination." She finishes in a mocking tone.
This just makes Crosshair roll his eyes as he starts stomping back and forth along the river bank. "Do you have to make a joke or positive spin out of everything?"
Bryn smirks. "Like you don't always have a remark? You're throwing stones from a glass house."
"Aurgh!" He growls out. "You're infuriating. Look at you, high and mighty Jedi Master, nothing can touch you, the galaxy is at your feet. And my brothers! My brothers falling in love with you instantly, I'm not so easily turned..."
Bryn takes a breath. "Crosshair... I've really been trying with you. I'm not forcing myself into your space, I'm giving you time to get used to me, letting you process. You're like a karking tooka, one day I think you're warming up to me, the next you can't stand the sight of me. What, do I need to leave out a saucer of blue milk for you?"
The sniper's eyes are nearly glowing. "I am not some mindless animal for you to wrangle-"
"Of course not." Bryn cuts him off. "You're human, with thoughts and emotions all your own. It's not my job to wrangle you. My job is to protect you. You think I'm untouchable? I envy you, Crosshair. Your brothers are still alive, you got to grow up with them, know them for who they are. The closest thing I've had to a family is the Order and even then, they're not the most understanding bunch. The four brothers I had were taken before I got a chance to see who they had become. But I see you, Crosshair."
His feet come to a stop under her gaze and he gets that feeling again, that she's looking through him.
"You are so full of emotion, though you try to hide it." Bryn says, her voice calm. "The love you have for your brothers, the anger at the other clones for shunning you. Your worry that you won't be able to protect them. I haven't delved into your mind out of respect for your privacy, but I do get waves of what's overflowing from you. Your frustration with me. You've been treating me like I'm going to treat you as the rest of the galaxy has, but you're realizing that I'm different. That scares you, and you're resisting. You're resisting your desire to drop the act and accept me."
Crosshair's shoulders drop as he finally lets some tension go. Bryn can see the words turning over in his head. What she said was true, they both know it. He opens his mouth to say something, but before he can, Bryn is knocked over by an unseen force.
Blinking from the impact with the ground, she sees Crosshair, draped in a heavy net, same as what hit her. He stops struggling against the net as his eyes set on something behind her.
"Well, well. What do we have here?” A voice sneers, dirt crunching under boots. “A trooper, and a Jedi. That should get us a nice score."
Another voice snickers. "Hondo will be pleased."
Bryn starts to retort, but the nets pinning her and Crosshair to the ground light with electricity, searing through their bodies before their vision goes black.

A/N: As I was doing the final formatting to post this chapter I was thinking. Why wouldn't the Batch know how to do CPR since they are trained in basic field medicine? I mean you could say the Kaminoans didn't think it was necessary training for them since they're not GAR Medics, or that the Clones are engineered to not have heart defects and their armor protects them, or their chest plates have AEDs inside them to detect a cardiac arrest and shock them automatically (because CPR doesn't really revive someone in cardiac arrest, an AED does. CPR just keeps the blood/oxygen circulating through their body long enough for the shock to work). But the longer I thought about it... It likely just wasn't taught because there were so many clones in the GAR, if one dropped from Cardiac Arrest, they'd just call it a KIA fatality or a 'defective' and move on, which then gave me the sads (wow what a surprise, an author giving themselves the sads with something they are wholly responsible for writing). The clones deserved so much better.

So for you dark and baneful witches... As one of you, I have a question:
As someone on this field of the craft I'm sure I know my answer and the answers I'll receive but I guess I just need to hear what others think before I fully stick my hand into the situation.
So a 'sibiling' of mine has started living with us again after 6 months of leaving because he had a big freak out and broke a lot of things in my room. The room that I hadn't been able to stay in because of how bad my current disability was at the time.
Up until his blow up he had tried playing in my face, acting like he cared and like he was nice, even going to my hospital room a few times when I was in it.
I made this post before but I broke a handful of my gods and goddesses statues, drew on a hanging thing of mine, threw away some of my tossing bones and called me useless and a liar for the sexual abuse I went through by another 'sibiling'... Called me a liar when before everything he acted like he understood.
I know, realistically the gods and goddesses support this choice if I go with it which I'm sure I will because I hate the energy in the house these days. And it's a familiar energy, the type where you feel like you have to walk on eggshells or you'll get hurt.
To add to his case he's:
Fatphobic (calling me names and stuff knowing good and well my disability was the thing literally at fault for me not being able to work out or anything like that. Also being fatphobic to the brother that I do care about that lives here that is on the spectrum and chubby as well but works as hard as he can. He was fatphobic to him while also taking money from him which made it hard for the good sibling to have any money left over for himself.)
Verbally and mentally abusive (when he's in a really bad mood and we got into an altercation before he left six months ago where the police was called because of all the shouting and he didn't hit me but I definitely feel like he wanted to.)
Manipulative (in many fashions from playing nice to making sure he doesn't split poles with his 22 y/o gf. He's 33... Do I need to explain more?? Considering I'm 21 I find the relationship really weird and considering his baby momma is fat I find it also weird asf that he's fatphobic, especially when he was shaped like a bowling ball in his highschool years and I mean bigger than me or my good brother.
Possibly abusive to animals. (There was a time where my fear was so bad over him that he was scaring my dog with my motorized wheelchair. I was scared to say anything but I didn't like it..) I feel like he's never really liked the dog but that was the punching point.
Rape apologist - in total I have four siblings. The eldest is the one I have an issue with, him and the one younger than him who spent years physically, mentally and sexually abusing me. It took so many years for me to say ANYTHING and when he had his blow up on me he called me a liar even though I've talked about it and I'm covered in sh scars from the mental drainage.
And honestly this is just a small list of what he's done to me RECENTLY. within a year, less than a year.
I made a notes thing for doing some baneful magick to get him out of here and away from this house for good. I know I am but am I justified in doing magick against him? Would you??
I put that last answer there for giggles but yeah. Vote guys. Please and Thank you.

quality of life‧₊˚✩彡🎐
this post is a collaboration with @prettieinpink my lovely mutual <3 so make sure to check out ur page for the continuation of this post and it has been a PLEASURE to work with her! go and follow her <3
HEALTH : ur health is easily the most important of these categories and ur own health must be prioritized in every thing that u do. health is wealth, and without health, ur quality of life will be very low.
eat foods that are good for u and that nourish you, pay close attention to ur body and how it reacts to certain foods cuz everyones body is different and u should have a vast knowledge on your own body and how it works. eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. a helpful ratio in eating that i like to use as a basic guideline is (80% of the time, eat healthier foods and 20% of the time eat what u crave)
stay hydrated and drink between 1-3 liters of water a day, about 15 minutes before u go to sleep drink a couple glasses of water, drinking water before bed literally CLEANSES you, it improves ur skin, helps ur heart pump blood more efficiently, and improves blood pressure and heart rate, which affects ur quality of sleep in a positive way
to continue on the note of ur sleep u should be sleeping 8-10 hours of sleep a night. sleep deprivation is NOT cute, so please opt to sleep at an earlier time and rise at an earlier time as well
aside from what u consume, take care of ur health by taking supplements, drinking lots of teas, sleeping enough, stretching ur body, dry brushing, lymphatic drainage massage etc
Tumblr media
MENTAL WELL BEING : september is suicide prevention month so i feel like now is an AMAZING time to bring up mental health and ways that u can improve ur mental state of being.
i always talk about self concept and i always will because self concept truly is the foundation of everything. ur whole entire life is literally ur mindset. keeping a positive outlook, meditating and practicing gratitude sounds cliche but it does wonders for ur happiness.
understand that its okay to NOT feel happy 24/7 because happiness is simply a feeling, and feelings are fleeting. they dont stay forever. i talked about the science of dopamine and what it does to ur brain in a previous post but some things that u can do to improve ur happiness levels are :
cutting back on social media and screen time in order to experience the world around you
surrounding urself with people who build you up
consuming social media that impacts ur mental health in a positive way
if u can, invest in therapy and if u can't do some shadow work, and based on ur discoveries with shadow work use the resources that u have (like youtube) to learn how to heal from ur trauma properly. healing isn't an overnight process, its a journey but it will DRASTICALLY improve ur quality of life.
find ways to cope and deal with ur emotions in a healthy way if ur going through a hard time, if ur going thru a REALLY hard time please go and seek help bcuz u dont deserve to live in a constant state of sadness, and if u ever need encouragement my inbox is always open 💗
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE : ur physical appearance can greatly impact ur quality of life also so here's some way to maximize ur looks:
sleep, drink water, and walk everyday - the best way to be pretty is to be healthy so make sure ur taking care of ur nutrition and ur sleep schedule
skincare - build a solid skincare routine and be consistent with it, do ur skincare RELIGIOUSLY 2x a day and dont touch ur face with ur hands unless ur washing ur face. double cleanse and dont forget to apply spf <33
haircare - learn what ur hair texture is and watch influencers or people who share the same hair texture as u and watch how they take care of their hair. once u know ur hair type then ur hair will thrive and be healthy
clean nails, long or short its all a matter of preference but keep ur nails clean and done nicely
wearing clothes that fit and complement ur body nicely, get ur clothes tailored to fit ur body comfortably
take good care of ur hair to keep it healthy, and learn how to do ur hair in cute hairstyles.
lastly POSTURE will tie all of this together, ofc these categories were rly broad but u can totally look into them more to maximize ur own looks and beauty
i know dear peachie on youtube has AMAZING makeup tips especially if ur a beginner she can teach u a lot
Tumblr media
GENERAL : this is just a broad category of helpful things that u can do to improve the quality of ur life.
manifestation : when u learn about the way that the world works and operates and how ur mind creates ur own reality u will literally step into the power of knowing that you create. start committing to ur dream life and learning about law of assumption
finding little things to be happy about : i feel my happiest when im consciously living. and what i mean about this most of us just live our lives on autopilot out of necessity or habit, but paying closer attention to our lives and our experiences and romanticizing our lives will improve the quality of ur life
decision making : make decisions that will give the quality of life that u wanna live. for the future, make decisions that are good for ur future self instead of just focusing on making decisions that only look good in that one moment. ofc this differs depending on the situation but make an effort to make smart decisions that'll set the foundation for ur future
go check out @prettieinpink for the next part of this post <;3

Ch210, Where is F. O. L. Orphanage?
⚠️ long post ⚠️
I was discussing that question with @juxl25, and I think we came up with a good choice for its location.
The only information we know for sure is that it's in Norfolk, and that it's near a river. We also know Finny and Snake took a train to a nearby town and walked to the orphanage.
We also know there's a wind pump that drains water from the surrounding marshland. There are at least four major rivers in the area used for draining the marshes: Yare, Bure, Wensum, and Ouse.
Juxl25 suggested River Yare and the historic Red Mill (the wind pump) as the area but was looking at Manor House, which is farther away, in the village (proper) of Haddiscoe, Norfolk. After some digging around, I agree with River Yare and Red Mill/Langley Detached mill (originally called Langley detached windpump...
Tumblr media
...or Langley Detached drainage pump).
Tumblr media
They are in an area northeast of Haddiscoe village, called Haddiscoe Island (these days), thanks to a canal added to connect River Yare and River Waveney farther inland, creating an island of the area and making the marshland there more remote/less accessible.
Tumblr media
There's a historic farmhouse just east of River Yare, not far from Red Mill, called Raven Hall. And Raven Hall would be a premium location to have a secluded facility like F. O. L. Orphanage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's only one thing I don't like about the buildings shown for Raven Hall -- it's a bit farther from the drainage pump than I want it to be, and it's just a large farmhouse (almost 3000 sqft) and a long barn (almost 900 sqft). But there's a cool space just south of those buildings, which would be ideal for the main orphanage, as well as a spot for the stables/barn leading closer to the drainage pump, farther south. Here are two options for the placement of F. O. L.:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In each case, I've placed the stables to the west of the main house, as a small red rectangle (more or less), while the windpump was already marked by a red dot farther southwest. Looking at the bend of the river on Theo's image of a map of the place, the placement on the right (above) might be the better match. Then again, it could be exactly where Raven Hall is located. And Raven Hall, having been built in the 17th century (or at least 1700), is older than Red Mill (built in 1840).
Tumblr media
Too bad I can't see the placement of the windpump on his map, but I think it's somewhere behind the speech bubbles on the left side of the panel.
We see that the windpump at the orphanage has a low roof of some kind, and juxl25 explains that someone was probably living onsite just to maintain it full time. I did find at least one pic showing Red Mill with what could be the old maintenance shed/shelter, but it seemed to be on the wrong side. Who knows? I guess it depends on which way the sails are facing to catch the wind? But the low roof in the panel is probably just the top of some shed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and near St Olaves, there's a train station called Haddiscoe Station. They could have got off the train there and made their way north to the orphanage by foot. Or did they hitch a ride part of the way? I'll have to go back and check.
I'm still considering one other location, not far from there, but I won't post it unless further research looks more promising.
Hey... can you imagine if all this time... F. O. L. was just some place name reference... like "Farmhouse on Langley" (Marshes)?!?
Please let these kids break the windpump and flood the tunnels.... 🙏

I'd love to see more of the snake mafia series, it's a really interesting concept that I'd like to see explored more of possible
We've got some big ol snake boys incoming. Our dear Reader wasn't as good at hiding as they thought they were...
~ ~ ~
Cat and Mouse
“AS MUCH AS I"M LOATH TO ADMIT IT, YOU ARE GOOD AT FINDING THE CRACKS. ANYONE THAT CAN MAKE MY BROTHER PAUSE THAT LONG IS WORTHY OF THAT MUCH ACKNOWLEDGMENT.”
You jerked awake, an embarrassingly garbled scream spewing from your lips as you flailed. Your intruder didn’t bat an eye. “THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE IF YOU WEREN’T RUNNING FROM US.”
You stared up from your crappy motel bed at the skeleton Naga monster. He was at the foot of the bed, coils still coming in the open door. Though he didn’t seem all that angry, he was clearly annoyed with the whole situation.
This one was new, being a lovely deep purple, a darkening strip down his back verging on black if the reflecting light didn’t give its true color away. His piercing orbs of eyelights matched.
You cursed yourself for being so careless after getting here. You had been so careful when you first ran, using every trick learned traversing and avoiding trouble within the city delivering packages. You even made sure to avoid known areas with cameras and made sure not to use your card. The rundown motel itself was in the middle of a nowhere town miles from Ebott City and New Ebott. They shouldn’t have been able to find you.
The Realization that nothing mattered had your stomach sinking. It was a terrifying thought.
You took a breath.
The bathroom door was only a few feet to your right. It had a window just wide enough you might be able to squeeze through if it could open. It would be a race to see who could get there faster though. You doubted the door would hold against your visitor very long.
Shifting, you glanced over. The Naga's shark-toothed grin immediately ticked higher, eyelights brightening.
“PLEASE DO. I LOVE A GOOD CHASE. ALTHOUGH, A BATHROOM IS HARDLY A PLACE TO RUN.”
You bolted, rolling from the bed while tossing the blanket at the snake's face. It was enough of a distraction for you to get to the bathroom first, locking it just as a body slammed into it. The cracks and creaks it made weren't reassuring. At the sound of more banging, you hurried as fast as you could to open the small frosted window.
If there was even a chance of escape, you’d best take it. You doubted being polite would save you now. Not after your little stunt. Who knew what awaited you back at The Den.
Luckily, it opened easily enough to allow you to remove the screen. Climbing up on the toilet, you then attempted to crawl out. You almost slipped when the door splintered dangerously with gleeful laughter.
You pushed forward, making sure to turn and sit on the ledge before trying to get your legs out. You didn’t want to fall and faceplant onto the ground. When you were almost all the way out, the door finally caved with a crash, a bony arm swiping at you right as you jumped.
You didn’t wait around to see if he would be able to fit through. He already had the advantage of not needing to climb to get to it. Plus, the hissed snarl and claws against brick was all you needed to boost your adrenalin.
How fast could an angry Naga slither? Certainly a lot faster than you could run if you didn’t get somewhere fast!
You figured the brush behind the building might slow him down a little for you to find a hiding place. There was an old overgrown drainage ditch back there you could use to hopefully gain ground.
Plunging in, you ignored the cuts and scrapes on your arms as you pushed branches out of your way. It took a bit, but you managed to get to a very narrow path within the ditch just high enough to decently run through beneath the underbrush. You would be mostly unseen as you went but further up were sections you could escape from.
It would be okay. You just needed to make sure the snake followed, and that he never got too close.
Another snarled hiss and the snapping of many branches told you to move faster.
Running full force hunching over, dodging, and moving brush and branches to the side hurt but you refused to give up. You could tell you were pulling ahead. A few more feet ahead was an opening you could cut through to get to a string of buildings on this town’s main street. You just had to push yourself a little farther.
You weren’t expecting to be slammed into by a larger snake the color of deep amber once you got there. You were tackled so hard you lost all your breath as skeletal arms constricted around you, a knot of coils balling around you following suit.
It was just like in documentaries when the snake caught its next meal…
Gasping for breath, you thrashed as best you could within the confines of coils and skeletal arms. You hated how everything tightened, a forked tongue brushing your neck with a deep chuckle.
“Well hello there, Darlin. Fancy meet’n you here.”
The voice was low and smooth, unperturbed by your fruitless struggles as coils continued to tighten and wrap around you. You couldn’t reply with how badly your lungs burned from running and having the air knocked out of you, but you didn’t need to. Not long after, the first Naga came barreling in.
“RUS YOU IDIOT! I HAD EVERYTHING HANDLED! STOP BALLING! SO HELP ME, IF YOU’VE RUINED YOUR SUIT NEEDLESSLY!”
Rus stopped moving. “Sorry, Milord.”
“MAKE SURE THEY ARE UNHARMED AND GET THEM OUT OF HERE. WE NEED TO BRING THEM BACK IN ONE PIECE.”
“Of course. Still plannin on take’n them back ta The Den?”
There was a pause. You couldn’t see him, but you could hear the smugness in his voice. “NOT YET. I’M... CURIOUS.”
...
You didn’t know how to feel about any of this.

Summer Heat - Chapter One
Tumblr media
Summary: Rafe had met his match when he met you. Both completely opposite and all too similar - the Kook and the Pogue who worked for his father; the hot headed boy and the girl who never backed down. And as summer rolls around on the island, tensions run high amongst the hottest enemies that OBX has ever seen.
Word Count: 2.6K
Warnings: Cursing, some (ish) sexual references, mentions of losing a parent
Author's Note: Omgggg I’m so excited to start this series !! I already have sooo many ideas for it. Please let me know what you think of the first chapter I want to hear alll of your opinions !! Much much much love to all of you, angels x
Rafe had grown up getting everything he wanted. As much as he was reluctant to admit it at times, he knew he had always been fed from the silver spoon. He could have half of the island wrapped around his little finger if he really wanted to. Everybody knew it. From his friends that were more like followers, to his girls that were more like groupies, to his family that were more like business partners. All of it was more and more a part of the personality that made the infamous Rafe Cameron.
You, having grown up in The Cut, were one of the many people that worked for him and his family. You'd taken the job working on the boat, you and John B both working together. It was mundane but it covered your share of the bills and kept your older sister off of your back. Since your father had passed away a few years ago, it was really just you and her left. That's how you'd become such good friends with John B - you'd been through the same shitty few years on the shitty side of the island you called home. And there was something comforting about going through it with someone that knew how it all felt. Working together was just another part of that - a way to make a crap life a little less bad.
Though, it was safe to say dealing with Rafe's input was one of the worst parts of your job - he was always on your case about every part of the work. He would pick you up on the slightest things, tell his father if you were even a few minutes late, made sure to give you enough jobs to last the day. It hadn't taken you long to start arguing back with him, defending yourself when he expected you to stay silent. And, though people might think he was the most hot headed a person could get, it seemed he had met his match in you.
"Oi!" John B shouts from the other side of the deck, "Are you going to help or what?"
You roll your eyes at him and stand up from where you'd been enjoying the sun from the deck. It was a scorching day on the island, the sun beating down relentlessly - even worse on the dock of the yacht that seemed to be allergic to any type of shade;
"Ward's not meant to be home for another hour, which means we have at least half an hour before we even need to start."
"Right, but if you grow up and do it now, we can slack off later," He points out, wiping the sweat from his brow.
The two of you were like siblings to each other - him the mature and logical one that liked to keep the peace, and you the unhinged argumentative one that seemed set on disturbing the peace.
"Touché," You walk over to where he's stood over the pile of used scuba gear, a hose in one hand to start cleaning it all with freshwater.
You pick up the other hose and spray it a couple of times to test it out. Watching it splash down the deck and trail towards the drainage, not paying attention to it bounce off in the other direction to spray over John B.
"Do you mind?" He raises his eyebrows at you, shaking off the water from his arm.
"I'm sorry I almost drowned you," You roll your eyes at him, spraying the hose another time in his direction.
"Really? You want to start that?" John B laughs, dropping the buoyancy jacket from his hands to turn his attention to you.
He sprays in your direction and it splashes down the front of your crop top, forcing a squeal from your lips.
"Oh you are dead!" You return, splashing him back so that it soaks his hair down to his head.
He goes at you again and soaks your outfit completely, water dripping down your shoulders and down your arms.
John B laughs and shakes his hair out, raising his hands in defeat, "Okay okay stop, I'm done."
He pulls a hand over his face and your hands down either side of your hair to slick it away from your face, welcoming the cool it brings you against the blazing heat.
"Good to see we pay you for some quality work here!" An all too infamous voice calls out from the other end of the boat.
You look up to see Rafe coming towards you, his skin sun-kissed in the heat. He crosses over the ramp from the wooden dock and onto the deck, long strides drawing him closer to you. There's a white linen shirt hanging on either side of his torso, exposing the dips of his abs and the way they seem more prominent with his tan. No. Ignore it. This is Rafe, it didn't matter what body came with that.
"We?" You scoff, "I'm not so sure you're responsible in the slightest for paying us. But go ahead, run along and tell Daddy if you need to."
He clenches his jaw but doesn't say anything for just a second, "I could get you fired with a click of my fingers, so watch your tone."
John B looks at you with warning in his eyes when he can tell you're on the verge of snapping back at Rafe. You struggled to hide your feelings at the best of times, but it seemed all the more impossible when it came to this boy.
You'd known of him when you were little, the two of you meeting when your father used to work the restaurant at the club. As a little boy, Rafe was a lot more tolerable than he was now - though you were sure that he didn't remember you. Your first memory of him was when you were sat waiting for your Dad's shift to end, you no older than six. You'd fallen and cut your knee and Rafe had found you, much taller than you even when he was a kid, and he'd stolen an ice cream from the buffet bar to give to you. He'd told you to stop crying because his Dad had told him that big kids didn't cry, but he knew from his sister Sarah that ice cream could cure a lot of things. He looked at your knee, the blood spilling down your leg, and he held a napkin over it whilst you ate the ice-cream he'd given you. When your Dad came to find you, he'd pulled you away and told you to not hang around with those 'Kook Kids' again. You'd looked over your shoulder as you left and watched as Rafe was getting told off by his own father, likely for disappearing, or perhaps for thieving from the buffet. He'd looked at you with a sadness in his eyes that didn't seem to dispel.
That same sadness, though mixed with a few other things, still seemed to remain all these years later.
"You can both leave, I've got some business to take care of," Rafe states simply, "Finish this up tomorrow."
John B grabs his hat and his bag from the side and nods, "You got it," He disappears around the side of the deck, glancing back at you with that sort of look in his eyes that tells you get the fuck out of there while you've got the chance.
"You know you shouldn't leave this stuff without cleaning it," You point out, "The salt can damage your gear. That's why we have to clean it."
"Then we can buy new stuff," His words are a cold contrast against the blistering summer heat.
You roll your eyes, certain in that moment that you and Rafe could not be any more different if you tried, "Easy life isn't it, Rafe Cameron?"
"Easier if you weren't here."
You're silent, a strange tension between the two of you that never seemed to disperse.
"Your top is dripping over the deck," He comments matter-of-factly.
He seems to look at you with a darkness in his eyes, though different from the way he seemed when he was angry. It wasn't an anger when he was with you - it was more like fury, a burning inside of him that seemed to echo in the tension in his muscles.
You cock a brow at him and lift one of your arms to pull your crop top over your head, quickly and in one motion, exposing the thin cover of the bikini top you wore underneath, "Yeah, you're right, wouldn't want water on the boat would we?"
"Was that necessary?" He cocks a brow at you, his eyes drifting south towards your chest, the way the droplets of water curled around the curves of your breasts.
"Keep your dick in your pants, Cameron."
~~~
"You know your life would be a hell of a lot easier if you didn't argue with him all the time," John B points out, sat on the dock next to the Chalet, his legs dangling over the edge, a beer can in his hands
"And what's the fun in that?" You tilt your head up from where you lay sprawled out over the wooden surface, one hand coming up to your face to block your eyes from the sun.
"The woman raises a good point," JJ comments, matching your pose as he was sprawled out over the small space of their boat.
"Plus," You lean up onto your elbows, "He thinks he can walk all over us just because his father's got money, I'm sick of it."
"His father having money is the reason that we can get a bit too," John B points out, standing up and going over to the cooler of beers that was already dwindling in supplies, "So please keep your mouth shut so that I can keep my job."
You push yourself up to stand and step through the barrier of the dock to stand on the side of the water, your hands reaching behind your back to hold the fence and steady yourself, "I can't make any promises."
You stretch your arms above your head and dive into the water, kicking below the surface to submerge yourself in the relief of the cold water. When you break the surface, you turn around to see the boys watching you from the deck.
JJ smirks at you, nudging John B knowingly before he says, "Damn, that was hot."
~~~
You're back at the Cameron's house the following day, pulling up in front of the mansion in your beat up car that seemed a stark contrast to the world around you. The car had belonged to your father, and had been passed down to you when your sister refused to drive it. It was littered with scratches and had a dent on one side, and the passenger side window didn't ever close, and it only took cassette tapes despite this being the 21st Century.
As you pull up today, Rafe is parked in front of your spot. The hood of his car is open and he's bent over, studying the inner workings like it were a foreign language. When he hears your door slam, a little too abruptly, he is quick to comment.
"You're late."
"Did you miss me that much?" You cock a brow, walking around the side of his car so you can see under the hood too, "What's wrong with this?"
He looks up at you for a second, his eyes squinting a little against the smoke that was just starting to bellow up from the vehicle, "I don't-" He stops himself, "It's fine, just go to the boat."
You look over, walking around to the front of the car so that you stood next to him, your shoulder bumping his arm as you tap at the source of his problem, "Your fuel cap is busted, radiator cap should solve it."
Rafe pulls away from the car to stand up straight, like a reminder of just how much he towered over you, "Are you kidding?"
"I probably have a spare in my trunk," You comment, standing up too so that you can face him, the tips of your shoes almost brushing with his.
"I don't need your help, (Y/N)."
You smirk and make sure your eyes are in direct contact with his as you state, "Oh, don't worry, I wasn't offering."
With that, you turn on your heel and make your way towards the house, diverting towards the gate that would lead you down towards the dock. You couldn't quite make out the feeling in your chest - a little bit of pride at your tiny victory, and a little bit of the typical quickening of your heart beat that only Rafe seemed to be able to cause.
~~~
Rafe gives up on his car not long after, storming back into the house as if the anger was practically radiating off of him.
“I need Dad’s keys, have you seen them?” He calls over to Sarah, who’s laying across one of the couches with a book in one hand, the other arm tucked under her head.
“Why would I know where they are?” She retorts, setting her book down and stretching her arms back above her head.
“Can you help me look for them?” Rafe snaps, “I’ve got somewhere to be and my car’s busted.”
“Find them yourself,” She scoffs, “Or get John B or (Y/N) to help you with your car.”
Rafe stops his search for the keys and looks at her flatly, “Are you kidding?”
“Why do you hate them so much?” His sister shakes her head, “They’re not that bad and you act like (Y/N) is the worst person on the planet.”
“She’s not-“
As if on cue, you walk through from the garden, sliding open one of the large glass panel doors. There were beads of sweat around your neck from being in the sun, the material of your halter neck top rising a little over your torso. Rafe finds himself trailing his eyes over you before he has a chance to stop himself.
“Perfect!” Sarah smiles at you, “(Y/N), if you’re not too busy can you help my pain-in-the-ass brother to fix his car so he can stop stressing out?”
You look from her and onto her brother, the way his chest is rising and falling like even the sight of you irritated him beyond normal, “I don’t think he wants my help. I’m just here to get the key to the locker, we’ve got stuff to put away.”
Rafe looks at you directly, as if he hopes his gaze will eventually pierce through your confidence and give him the upper hand, “I’ll get you the key, if you get me that cap.”
It’s impossible to hide the smirk over your lips, “Hard bargain, Rafe Cameron.”
“Just do it,” He rolls his eyes, storming out of the room just as quickly as he’s entered.
Sarah glances up at you and shakes her head, “I’m sure you make him worse than normal.”
You laugh and nod your head a little, “Yeah, probably, but someone’s got to do it.”
You leave then and go out to your car, where Rafe is already waiting. He’s leant back against the side of it, his elbows leaning back on either side of the roof and his ankles crossed as if you had kept him waiting for a short version of forever.
”Do you mind? You’ll ruin the paint,” You bat his arm away and it evokes a deep laugh from him, one of mocking more so than amusement.
“On this thing? I think the paint is the least of your concerns,” He comments, glancing down at the scratches that wound around the side of the doors.
“Do you want to fix your car or not?”
He’s quiet then.
“This was my Dad’s car,” You mention, grabbing what you needed from the trunk before closing it, “And until it stops driving, I see no reason to get rid of it.”
“Your Dad,” Rafe studies your face, “Yeah, I remember him, he used to work at the club, right?”
As you walk past him, you find yourself having to swallow the lump in your throat before you can think of responding properly, “Yeah.”
“How did he-“
“Can you stop?” You snap at him, twisting off the old cap and fixing the new one in place over the fuel pump.
“Can I stop what?”
You stand up from the hood of his car and slam it shut, “Pretending like you give a shit. I don’t need your pity.”
It’s like something switches off in Rafe then, a light going out before your eyes had even adjusted to it being there, he straightens up his shoulders, lets out a cold blooded laugh through his lips, “Oh I don’t pity you, you Pogues are all just as bad as each other. Criminals, nothing more.”
“Well, if you don’t mind, this criminal has to get back to working on your boat,” You step forward and swipe the locker key from his hand, “I’ll try my best to not steal anything whilst I’m there.”
He watches you walk away, tastes the sarcastic air left in the wake of your words, breathes in the lingering scent of your unwavering confidence. And he can’t bring himself to look away from you. But, for just a brief moment, Rafe realises that he doesn’t want to.
Did Chimney hire a crane???
The Madney courtyard is fully enclosed, isn’t it? Someone please tell me cos I can’t remember for sure. But if it is…
That would require a crane to get the hot tub in there. Those things are freaking heavy, and bulky, and awkward AF to move and install. I can’t see Chimney letting tradesmen carry it through their beautiful, newly renovated home. So, crane. Cranes are expensive!! Hot tubs are expensive!!
HOW MUCH DID HE SPEND ON THIS HOT TUB???
RIGHT BEFORE HIS WEDDING??
WITHOUT CONSULTING HIS FIANCE?
Did he ask his dad to pay for it all? Did he finance it? Chimney man, what the hell?
Don’t even get me started on the engineering & plumbing issues. I assume the courtyard already has drainage, it would have to for rain. Does it have water connection as well? Possibly, there are plants out there. But those things are heavy af when they’re full. Did he get an engineer to check if the house footings can support it?
And don’t even get me started on flooding issues… if Maddie doesn’t make him return the tub, they are totally going to have a flood inside their home at some point. They almost have to, on this show.
(But if the hot tub stays, please give me Buck babysitting Jee one night and Eddie stopping by after dropping Chris off at his girlfriend’s house. Jee is asleep so they decide to try out the hot tub and things get… spicy.
Maddie & Chim find out (because no one on this show knows what a secret is). Chim is outraged that Buddie did the dirty in their tub before they were able to. Maddie just wants them to pay to have it cleaned. Thoroughly.)
The loud creaking noise coming from the walls is worrying, but the wince and muttered “oh, no” by the planet’s official is even worse.
“What’s wrong?” Keith asks warily.
“Oh, nothing to worry about, paladins!” the official says, plastering a smile on her face. “Please, carry on.”
Lance sighs heavily, trying at the last minute to keep the exasperation out of his tone. “Ma’am, there’s no need to shield us. We’re well equipped for an emergency, and happy to help.”
“Oh, you’re guests, I could never —”
Just then the walls creak again, much louder this time, before a gigantic crack appears, spreading across several meters. The official slumps forward. “We’ve been having some problems with our drainage systems,” she explains apologetically. “We were hopeful that there would be no flooding or catastrophes today, but that does not seem to be the case.”
The second the words are out of her mouth, the crack expands further, and water starts rushing out. The gathered people at the gala all make noises of minor alarm, but they’re all clearly used to the struggle, as no one seems too panicked. Lance takes the moment of confusion to step up onto a recently vacated chair.
“I’m so sorry,” says the official again, looking positively mortified. “This is going to have to cut the celebrations short.”
Keith quirks up one half of his mouth, trying his best to smile reassuringly. He looks awkward but determined. Lance looks away, hiding a fond smile.
“It’s fine,” Keith assures. “Do you need our help escorting everyone out?”
The official shakes her head. “No, everyone’s well-used to this at this point. They’ll file out on their own. I would just worry about getting yourselves out and back to your ship, paladins. It may take a while.”
Lance grimaces, glancing at the massive crowd all trying to file through the minimal exits. “Noted.”
The official hurries away, striding to help some of her elderly people make it through the doors first as the water level starts to rise. Nothing alarming, but enough to be frustrating and even a hazard for anyone who struggles to walk.
“Shame this had to end early,” Keith says, looking like it’s quite the opposite.
Lance snorts. “Real shame, I’m sure. Is that why you look like you could sing a tune?”
Keith’s small smile morphs into a full grin, and he shrugs. “No clue what you’re talking about.”
“Mhm. Sure. Let’s get out of here, you hater.”
Keith starts sloshing forward, wading through the now knee-high water. Lance steps from the chair he was standing on to the table and follows.
“You’re going to fall,” Keith says mildly.
Lance ignores him, concentrating on not tripping over plates and cutlery (proving Keith right would be just as bad as falling entirely into the water).
“Am not. Excuse me for not wanting to wade through dirty pipe water.”
“Priss,” Keith teases.
Lance scowls at him. “I’m wearing my nice shoes! And socks are already the worst things in the world, but wet socks? No. I’d rather surgically remove my feet.”
“Well, get your scalpel ready, ‘cause you’re running out of table.”
Lance stops, realising that he is, in fact, running out of table. He’s got maybe three or so meters left before his path gives way to what was once a massive dance floor and is now a pond, and is also the only way to reach the exit.
“Shit.” He shifts his feet, turning to look at Keith. “Maybe I should just wait here. You know, to make sure everyone else gets out safe. And for the water to get drained.”
Keith scoffs. “Fat chance of that. You’ll be here for days, and we have training tomorrow morning.”
Lance huffs, kicking an abandoned platter of appetizers to the side and sitting criss-cross-applesauce on the white tablecloth. “I don’t want to ruin my fancy clothes,” he says petulantly. “Or get wet socks. Why do horrible things happen to beautiful people? I don’t deserve this.”
Keith laughs. A small one, but one where his smile gets wide, showing his crooked incisors and the lines around his eyes. The look of it makes Lance grin back on reflex. Keith shakes his head, teasing, and then opens his arms. “C’mere, then.”
It takes Lance a moment to clock what Keith’s suggesting, but then he scoffs.
“Absolutely not, Mullet.”
The twinkle in Keith’s eyes is something like mischief. “I dunno what your issue is. If I carry you, you don’t ruin your shoes and your feet stay dry. What have you got to lose?”
“My dignity, I would say. You think I’m cool with you carrying me around like some —” Lance flushes at the mere thought — “some damsel, in front of the entire planet that thinks I’m a cool space hero? No way!”
“Well it’s either your dignity or dry feet, princess,” Keith teases. “You can’t have both.”
Lance narrows his eyes at the bastard. “Do you know how irritating it is when you’re both right and being generous, and thus have the moral high ground?”
Keith laughs again, brighter than before, making Lance’s stomach flutter. He opens his arms, wiggling his fingers enticingly. “You made your choice?”
Lance huffs again. “I guess if you’re offer’s still on the table,” he mutters, staring down at his shoes. “I really like these shoes.”
Without another word, Keith shuffles forward, sliding one arm behind Lance’s back and one under his knees. He lifts Lance easily, not even bracing himself or anything.
“Do I weigh anything to you?” Lance demands, fighting off the redness that threatens to overwhelm his face.
Keith smirks. “Nope. Felt like I was lifting a beanstalk.”
“You’re the worst.”
“Mhm. Keep talking shit and I’ll drop you.”
Lance snaps his mouth shut, because Keith absolutely will. As gentlemanly as he’s being right now, his favourite hobby is driving Lance batty, and Lance knows that for a fact. As soon as he decides that it will be funnier to dunk Lance than to carry him, he will.
“You know, this reminds me of something,” Keith muses as they’re halfway across the flooded dance floor.
Lance hums. “Yeah? What’s that?”
“I’m trying to put my finger on it. Early castle days, some sort of disaster, you cradled in my arms?”
“Oh — fuck off!” Lance exclaims, smacking Keith on the chest. “You drama queen!”
Keith sniggers. “I remember it now.” He smooths his face into an exaggerated smoulder. “‘We make a great team,’” he mocks, digging his fingers into Lance’s side.
“I did not say that,” Lance insists, even though he knows it’s futile. They have this exact argument at least once a week and it goes absolutely nowhere.
“You’re right, you didn’t just ‘say that’. You batted your eyelashes at me and made your eyes all big and brown and said it with the sappiest smile on your face —”
“You are delusional—”
“—and then fainted in my arms after holding my hand and gazing into my eyes. And then you got embarrassed and pretended it didn’t happen.”
“It didn’t! You wanted me to flirt with you so bad you dreamed it up!”
“Sure,” Keith says, shifting Lance in his arms. He pays Lance’s thigh condescendingly. “Whatever you need to tell yourself.”
“You are infuriating.”
“And you are the most frustrating person to ever come from planet Earth.”
They continue to bicker back and forth as Keith walks them through the pond, neither of them stopping to even take a breath. They’re the last ones to clear out, so they take their time. (Well, Keith takes his time, walking as slow as he can to increase Lance’s humiliation, and pretending to drop him every few minutes to hear Lance shriek and clutch his shoulders tightly. Because he is the worst.)
“Finally,” Lance grumbles, as they finally approach the doors. “Anyone tell you that you’re the worst taxi ever?”
“I’m going to dunk you,” Keith says pleasantly.
“Yeah, right. You’ve been saying that for twenty minutes.”
“Twenty-one might be the kicker.”
“Sure, and I bet —”
But Lance never gets to say what he bets, because as soon as they cross the threshold out of the ballroom, where everyone else has filed out, he’s interrupted by cheering. He looks up, confused, to find Hunk and Pidge pointing at him and teasingly whooping and hollering. The rest of the gathered crowd is quickly following suit.
Lance, it seems, is the only one being carried over the water like royalty. Even Allura is walking on her own just fine.
“Got a real gentleman, there, Lance,” Shiro calls, impish grin spreading across his face.
“Fuck off,” Lance snaps, face redder than Keith’s stupid jacket. He hides his face in Keith’s chest, which is shaking with the force of his chuckles.
“Shall I let you down?” he whispers.
“Don’t you dare,” Lance whispers back.
“You’re liking this, then.”
The truth is…yeah. As humiliating as it is being cradled in Keith’s arms (again), something primal and petty in Lance is positively preening at the attention, at the knowledge that he and he alone is special enough to be carried around by Keith Kogane. No one else got the special offer to be spared from the filth of the pipe water. No one else gets to feel Keith’s arms around them. No one else gets to feel the heat of his body so close, hear the beat of his heart. Just Lance.
“You’re annoying and I hate you,” Lance says instead of voicing any of that. “You have a thing for embarrassing me, I swear.”
Keith shrugs. The movement makes Lance’s belly swoop. “A little, actually. It’s hilarious when you get all riled up.”
“Yeah, well, you look better when you’re all mad at me! Take that!” As soon as he says it Lance wishes he could reach back in time and smack the shit out of himself. “Fuck — I didn’t mean — that’s not —”
But the damage is already done — Keith’s already grinning widely, smug and horrible and so, so sexy. “I’ll keep that in mind the next time you piss me off on purpose, Bluebell. Maybe I’ll just shut you up with a kiss.”
Lance is too choked up to say a single thing for the rest of the walk to the castle. When he finally gets to his room — free of Keith’s stupid horrible strong arms, might he add — he shoves his face into his pillow and screams himself hoarse.
Keith is the worst, and Lance wants him more than anyone he’s ever known.
The Watcher DLC - Personal Dissection
Tumblr media
[SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED BASE GAME/DLC] Oh goodness me, Videocult has decided to drop a nuke on my already rotted brain due to this game and now I shall dissect this yummy meal bit by bit like the picky eater I am (in a good way this time though). And yall are coming with me because I said so. Really, this is just a great place for me to get my thoughts in order... cough. A lot of this is speculation! If I can find anything confirmed, I will try and write about it when I can.
Steam DLC Description
Tumblr media
Let's start with the obvious- this basically confirms new creatures, regions, etc. This place seems to be in a completely different area than both the base game and Downpour slugcats, with new creatures to boot. I will go over the revealed regions/screenshots in more detail further down.
The descriptions states "the world beneath your feet cracks and crumbles", and while this could be linked to the Void Sea, the thumbnail art and font for the DLC's steam page and trailer depicts the Rot, and I am doubtful such an obvious detail would be thrown in there without it being present. Rot is only present where iterators are, and the only iterator we know of (in detail) to have the Rot is Five Pebbles, who got it by trying to rewrite himself. SRS gave him the pearl, but whoever wrote it is unknown, and I am highly doubtful it is 5P or SRS where this slugcat takes place in. It could be a pre-existing iterator like NSH/SOS (doubtful, but i suppose NSH would explain how Hunter got the rot if that is canon), a new one that also read the information that 5P and SRS did, or maybe even the one that originally wrote it that failed the experiment themself. This is a lot of speculation though and we will only really know for sure when more information is revealed. Take all of this with a grain of salt! I am just rambling possibilities.
New Regions
New regions are seen via screenshots on the DLC's Steam page. I will be attaching the screenshots here as well as what I speculate on what they may be/entail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with these two regions here, as it seems to match the most with the thumbnail art. At first I thought it was the foggy region below, but upon closer inspection this wall-like region incorporates more blue colors, fog/clouds are present, and would make the most sense for the rot to be present if this is indeed an iterator's wall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Credits to shrinkshooter on Reddit for the enhanced image to the right.
This region looks reminiscent of 5P Memory Crypts, only in daylight. Whether this region serves a similar purpose to ancients is unknown. I considered the possibility of it being in a similar placement like 5P, but I am unsure if that would make sense due to the fact that 5P's shaded citadel is underneath his superstructure- hence why it is so dark in that region- when it clearly isn't here. (It could be completely separate from and not relating anything to Shaded Citadel entirely though!)
Tumblr media
Mysterious looking underground region filled with green water. It's water guys. It better be water. Please no more acid, I'm begging.
This area immediately made me think of Spearmaster's start of their campaign, or it could be something reminiscent to Moon's Submerged Superstructure. Drainage System/Undergrowth also comes to mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two desert-like regions are depicted here! While some speculation on the region on the right is it being a snow biome- I personally believe that this may be in face a dust/sand storm. Dust storms were planned during Metropolis' development in Downpour, but were scrapped in favor for the day/night cycle instead. Additionally, the snow particles present in Saint's campaign look drastically different compared to what is shown here. Additionally, there is Developer Commentary that talks about these dust storms for Metropolis. The dust storm effect looks different compared to what is shown, but it could have been possibly reworked to suit the region's look. Who knows though! Could just indeed be snow- but the entire area for this campaign looks to be generally warmer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This region looks reminiscent to Sky Islands from 5P. Something to note is the lack of nearby iterator cities. This could mean two things: this campaign takes place far into the future, with surrounding iterators having already collapsed. Or...
Tumblr media
It could be located on an desert island, right next to an ocean. Where all the water could have gone from this area will honestly be up to speculation until more information presents itself- however the seemingly coral-like structure to this region seems to point to this. It would also explain the lack of visible iterator cities in the background of the previous mentioned Sky Islands reminiscent region.
Additionally in one of the thumbnails for the DLC, water is present below the slugcat. (Then again, rain/water is present for all of em besides Saint eh?)
Tumblr media
Additional Notes
An echo-like effect is seen around the slugcat in the previously mentioned thumbnail, as well as in the ripples in the water around it
Hey. Remember around this time last year when the northeast US turned into an orange hellscape from wildfire smoke?
Experts are predicting something similar will happen again this year, (on top of/due to the already record breaking heat waves) so please make sure you have the appropriate safety measures before things get bad!
Buy some decent air filters and high quality face masks. Remember that unless your Air Conditioner has some kind of special filter built into its air intake, when you're running it, it's going to be sucking in the particulates from the smoke outside! Same goes for bathroom ventilation fans. And even if there isn't smoke outside, the ventilation fans are going to be sucking in hot, humid air, so use them only when necessary.
Take precautionary measures that keep your house cooler naturally, like covering all the windows and leaving most of the lights off. If your house has multiple floors, remember that the lowest floors are always the coolest.
Evaporative cooling can help you stay cool in extreme heat, but remember that if the humidity is high enough, it doesn't work anymore! Get some dehumidifiers for your house to combat this. Not the dinky kind they make for closets but the bigger, high volume kind that have drainage hoses. Climatologists are also predicting more heat bulb events (that's extreme heat combines with extreme humidity, leading to more deaths because our bodies cannot cool us down by sweating).
If you're walking outside, a parasol or UV protective umbrella will help keep you cool. Broad brimmed hats as well. Wearing loose, light colored clothing made out of breathable fabrics like linen and cotton will also help keep you cool.
If there's wildfire smoke out, try to limit your time outdoors as much as possible, and wear a face mask!
And, as always, stay hydrated! If it's hot enough, you'll need more than just water to replace what you're seating out, because you're losing electrolytes! Get something like Gatorade, Powerade, Pedialyte, etc.
Please stay safe, everyone!!
it’s just allergies
Tyler Joseph x reader fic
small one shot
mainly a fluff fic
*i can’t believe I’m posting this 😭🫡
this fic is roughly Inspired by when I caught Covid like last week.
might be some grammar mistakes, don’t blame me it’s 1 am and I’m barely holding together.
please give feedback on what you thought! this is my first time posting a fic anywhere, I would like to know how I did :)
summary:
Tyler Joseph is your boyfriend and best friend.
it was that time of the year, allergies were bad, but also Covid was going around again. you had the symptoms, but you also insisted it’s just allergies.
CAUSE IT IS JUST ALLERG-
“ah- ah- ah” you started feeling the tingling sensation in your noise, as you sneezed loudly. tyler slowly turned his head, redirecting his attention from his phone to you. “I’m not sick I swear, it’s JUST allergie-“ you were cut off by another loud hack from your throat.
Dang it that hurt.
you turned your head towards him smiling. He sighed “sureee…I’m going to have to call josh to cancel plans aint I” he said turning his attention back to his phone. you scoffed “this happens every year around this time, it’ll be fine. your plans with josh will be fine too” you said wiping your nose on the back of your hand. he looked back at you in disbelief shaking his head and putting his head In his hands.
you put pressure to your throat with the tip of your finger and cringed at how bad it hurt, even from the slightest touch it hurt like heck.. it’s just allergies.. right? everyone else is getting sick though… nooo you’ll be fine, you laughed nervously knowing that you were most likely sick, But you weren’t admitting that.
you walked into the kitchen and grabbed a drink, trying to find a way to sooth your aching throat. You poured a glass of water and chugged it, immediately making your throat feel a little better.
you walked back to the couch and sat back down. you crawled closer to Tyler, putting your head in his lap, knocking his phone out of his hand in the process. he laughed “y/n…your going to get me sic-“ he was cut off by your loud coughing. You looked back up at him smiling “I’m- not- sick-“ you were cut off multiple times by a series of sneezes
Tyler sighed “says the one coughing and sneezing all over me” he giggled. “What! that’s what allergies do to you” you insisted, trying to hold back another cough. “What proof! do you have that I am ‘sick’ ” you asked looking up into his eyes. He laughed “you’re coughing and sneezing everywhere, plus it’s been going around again, I’m pretty sure that’s enough proof to prove that you are in fact, sick” Tyler said bluntly. You scoffed “it’s just allergies..” you said trying to find something to argue back with. you could feel the drainage go down your throat.
Tyler resumed to what he was doing on his phone, as you sat up and walked into the bathroom searching the counter cabinets “I will show you…” you said pulling out a Covid test. he scoffed “I guarantee it will come back positive” he yelled out in response, not taking his eyes off of his phone. “NO IT WONT-“
———-
your smile faltered. you sighed, silently cursing to yourself. You walked out of the bathroom in defeat and stared at him until he looked back.
you sighed. “you can call josh….you freaking win this time Joseph” you said flipping him off and heading back into the bathroom. he started hysterically laughing while pulling up Josh’s contact to message him, and at the same time you started coughing so hard your throat started to sting and burn.
As you threw the Covid test in the trash you kicked the trash can in frustration, making your foot throb “CRAP” you yelled out in pain. “You ok?” Tyler yelled out in concern. “ty, I smacked my foot” you sighed “please help”. he laughed at your desperation and put his phone down, sitting up and walking towards the bathroom.
the sight was hilarious, for him at least. you were crippled over your foot on the bathroom floor. You looked up realizing he was there, you smiled “help please” you said letting out another cough, which made your throat burn even more. He reached down and grabbed your hips to pick you up into his arms, as you wrapped your legs around his body, holding on.
he kissed you on your forehead and carried you into the living room, putting you softly down on the couch as you laid your head back on a pillow, he stood up straight and just looked down at the sight of you dying on the couch.
he started laughing and made his way back to the bathroom “what? What’s so funny?” You said in frustration, crossing your arms. The pain in your foot went away, it was just a little red now. He walked back into the room with two rolls of toilet paper and a Walmart bag in his hands “you” he giggled, throwing the toilet paper at you
you wheezed, as both rolls hit you straight on, directly in your stomach.
he walked into the kitchen and grabbed a pot, filled it with water and put it on the stove top, turning the heat up.
“what are you doing in there?” You asked confusedly, after hearing him opening and closing cabinets. “You will see” he said walking back into the living room and plopping himself onto the couch. “what do you need?” He asked wanting to help in anyway he could. “uh nothing comes to mind yet, my throat does hurt pretty bad though” you said with a weary smile. He smiled “Well im making something that will help” he reassured
“it better-“ you were cut off by Tyler Wrapping his arms around your hips and pulling you onto his lap and bringing you into a embrace. he then proceeded to push his forehead into your stomach. the actions made you a fluster up . “Ty, you’re going to get yourself sick” you said, quietly laughing. he deviously smiled back up at you “How could I get sick if it’s just ‘allergies’?” He asked shooting your own words back at you.
“idiot” you said under your breath. he smiled hearing you say it. “mmm.. what did you say princess?” he asked, you could feel his lips smirking across your stomach. “nothing..” you said under a whisper and kissed the top of his head, running your fingers through his hair. He smiled at the action. He put you back down and got up heading back to the kitchen. you sighed missing the warmth.
You could smell he was cooking something… soup? Hold on, he can cook? “Ty! Are you cookin something in there?” You yelled out. he giggled “Maybe..” he said stirring the pot.
Around 15 to 20 minutes later he came out of the kitchen with two bowls of chicken noodle soup and a blanket hanging over his shoulder. “You can cook?” you asked laughing. He laughed back “yes.. I can cook, this is something my mom showed me a while back…” he sat down next to you and handed the bowl to you “this should help the pain in your throat” he said smiling. you took the spoon he handed you and took a sip straight away. Immediately the heat of the soup eased the pain in your throat, you sighed in relief. He wrapped the blanket around you, which you silently thanked him for. “holy crap tyler, this is really good” you said in delight. He rubbed the back of his neck happily “oh it’s nothing-”
———
After you ate you fell asleep on the couch as tyler held you in his arms with a soft blanket wrapped around yall, while watching something on tv.
you slowly started to wake up from the light blaring into your eyes from the window.
first thing you noticed was your nose, you could not breath at all, you felt like you were suffocating. second thing is, you have a really bad headache. Third thing you noticed was Tyler, you immediately calmed down from the anxiety of not being able to breathe and instantly relaxed as you sunk back into him.
he noticed you wake up from the quick intake of breath. “you awake y/n?” he asked quietly not wanting to disturb you. “Yeah” you said softly. You snuggled your head back into his chest and he giggled “you’ve been out asleep for a while now” he smiled
“Well allergies are hard” you said reaching over for the toilet paper he got you blowing your irritated bright red nose. He kissed you on your cheek. he laughed “your gonna get me sick aren’t you-“ Tyler cut himself off with a sneeze
He sighed “are you kidding-”
The usual three prompts :)
Karlach - Sunflower
Jaheira - Sweet Pea
Isobel - Dandelion
(Flower prompts meme)
Finally responding to this! I ended up picking both the Karlach and Jaheira ones and combining them into one fic, and also making them both about friendship stuff even though I think the prompt definitely intended romantic. And then it grew legs and became an AO3 one-shot instead of a drabble fill. More bang for your buck. XD Really hope you like!
“I can't fuckin’ believe it,” Karlach slurs happily.
Hector grins. “So you've said - a few times now.”
He gently pries the bottle of ale out of her hand and takes a sip from it himself before setting it aside next to the tree they’re sitting against. Another bottle, already empty, is nestled there in the grass, damp with condensation in the crisp evening air.
The camp’s much-needed celebration at finally escaping the Shadow-Cursed Lands has also turned out to be an excuse to clear their supply packs of the unreasonable quantity of alcohol they’ve accumulated. Karlach has been doing her part in the drainage effort. Hector himself hasn’t had too much; he is, however, very much enjoying listening to her increasingly exuberant ramblings as the night has gone on and the bottles have slowly trended towards empty.
He stretches, draping his arms loosely around her waist as she settles more comfortably into his lap. “But go on. Tell me again.”
“I’m serious. I can’t believe it,” she says earnestly. Her whole face scrunches up with concentration as she tries to focus her eyes on him. “Jaheira. In our camp. That's her tent right over there!” She points unsteadily in a vague direction. “D'you know how many stories I heard about her as a kid? SO many, Hec. Like…” A pause. “So many.”
He chuckles. “Yeah?” He kisses the tip of her nose, then her lips. “I’d love to hear them.”
“She’s so cool. She can turn into a panther,” Karlach says dreamily. “I saw her do it at Last Light. An’ she cut up those winged horrors like they were nothing .”
“A very impressive show,” he agrees, nodding.
She considers for a moment, her eyebrows knitting. “Bet I’d make a good panther.”
“I'm sure you would.” Picking up one of her hands, he interlaces their fingers, kissing each of her knuckles in turn. “You've already got the claws for it.”
“I should get Jaheira t’ teach me,” Karlach decides. Her gaze drifts out of focus again. “And then we could be panthers together and slash everyone up. And then you'd run up and punch them too. POW POW.” She thumps her fist lightly into the pit of his stomach. “Like that.”
He slumps dramatically against the tree trunk, clutching at his abdomen. “You got me. A wicked strike indeed.”
“Hrrrrrmm.” She clicks her tongue dismissively and gives her head an exaggerated shake. “C’mon now, Soldier. You fought that weird Myrkul bone motherfucker,” she points out. “You can take a gut hit from me, I bet.”
“No doubt,” he agrees. His eyes narrow teasingly. “Only you've seemed rather fond of some parts down there, and I'd hate for you to damage them accidentally.”
“Oh, shit, you're right.” She bursts into a fit of giggles and slumps against his shoulder. “Gotta be careful.” She kisses his neck, under his jaw, up to his ear, and nips gently at his earlobe. This elicits a soft, involuntary noise of eager satisfaction from him, and she snickers, pleased at the reaction. “Better?”
“Much.” He runs the tips of his fingers down the back of her neck and feels her shiver pleasantly in return. “I love seeing you so happy, you know.”
This seems to give her some pause. “Happy. Yeah.” She fidgets her fingertips at his jaw, pushing against the grain of his beard with an air of deep absorption.
There's silence for a moment, filled with the noise of the living forest around them - so different from the desolation of the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Damp leaves rustle against each other in the slow, warm breeze. Somewhere above them, a hawk screeches a hunting call.
“We're gonna kill Gortash, right?” Karlach asks abruptly.
His lips purse tightly and his smile fades. He remembers the mop-headed bastard in the long coat, standing alongside Ketheric and the Bhaalist in that pit of horrors beneath Moonrise. He remembers the rage in Karlach’s face and how it echoed in his own heart. “Yes,” he answers. “We will.”
She presses her face into his neck. “An’ Jaheira's gonna help us. An’ I can kiss a hot monk any time I want, an’ he promised me nothing bad is ever gonna happen, ever again.”
He blinks, then chuckles, the grim mood easing again. “All true things.”
“Then yeah.” Her voice is muffled and increasingly drowsy, but he can hear the smile in it. “I'm happy.”
He digs his fingers gently into the small of her back to pull her tighter against him. “Good. I am too.”
It isn’t a lie - he is happy, here at this moment, blanketed in her warmth. But uncertainty lurks very close at hand. They have a plan, a goal - a purpose that will save thousands of lives if they can hold to it. But their enemy is horrifying beyond comprehension, and everyone, even to the daughter of Selune herself, has trusted him to be equal to it.
What if he’s not?
He’s jarred from his thoughts by the soft thump of a footstep, and he looks up to see Jaheira rounding one of the nearby tents. The High Harper also has a bottle of wine in one hand, but her steps are steady and her bearing straight. Only her eyes - softened from their usual sharp glint and peering languorously into the middle distance - betray any sign of inebriation.
She comes to a halt just shy of tripping over Hector's outstretched legs. Her eyes take a moment to refocus, and she tips her head to one side as she takes in the scene.
“Good evening, Carlisle,” she says with exaggerated gravity, inclining her head at him.
He tries to straighten up respectfully, although the effect is somewhat marred by Karlach’s weight holding him pinned against the tree trunk. “Good evening, High Harper.”
Karlach stirs in his arms. “Oh, fuck. Is that Jaheira?” she mumbles, still muffled against him.
He grins, ruffling her hair gently with his fingers. “Seems so,” he answers.
“Shit.” She makes an uncoordinated (and unsuccessful) effort to lift her head. “Don' tell her I'm drunk…”
Jaheira’s eyes narrow with sudden humor and she crouches at Hector's side. With a deft jerk, she lodges the butt end of the bottle she’s carrying into the dirt next to the others. “Do not worry, Karlach,” she says gravely. “Your secret is quite safe.”
“Good,” Karlach mumbles sleepily. “I want her t’ think I'm cool…” She squirms and grinds her face more firmly into Hector's neck. “And teach me about… panthers…”
Jaheira quirks one eyebrow up and her lips twitch. “I believe she vastly overestimates the number of ‘cool’ people I have traveled with,” she says to Hector, her tone deeply dry.
Hector grins cautiously. He does not quite have Karlach’s level of hero worship, but it still feels mildly unreal to be sitting here talking with one of the heroes of the Bhaalspawn Crisis, a woman he read of in countless historical texts in the monastery’s library. In person, Jaheira has proved to be remarkably down-to-earth, despite all the lofty tales that speak of her, but Hector’s instinct for deference towards her is hard to shake. “Well, we’re all very pleased you’ve chosen to travel with us,” he tells her earnestly. “And honored.”
“Bah, the honor is mine, Saer Carlisle.” She grins crookedly and raises one shoulder in a half-shrug. “It is an exclusive club, we who have faced down a god and survived. It is so rare that we get new members. I should be thanking you for the company.”
He relaxes a little with a laugh. “I never imagined facing anything like this,” he admits.
Jaheira snorts. She slowly lets herself topple out of her crouched position to sit next to him on the dew-damp ground. “In my experience, a world-ending crisis is not something one plans for. It merely happens, and you are swept along in the rising flood, will you or no.”
Her eyes flick from his face to Karlach, draped in his arms, and her expression softens slightly. “But you have been equal to it, so far. What we faced in the Shadow-Cursed Lands… not many would have come out of it unscathed.”
Hector drifts his fingertips over Karlach’s back, feeling the slow rise and fall of her chest and the pulses of heat from the infernal engine - and the subtle rough texture of one of the new scars she gained at Moonrise. “Unscathed might be putting it a little strongly,” he murmurs.
“True enough. Let us say… alive,” Jaheira says with a flash of gallows humor. “An accomplishment that should never be taken for granted.” A pause. “I am proud of both of you - of all of you. And proud to face whatever lies ahead at your side.”
Karlach’s head has become heavier on his shoulder and her breathing, against his ear, has settled into a steady rhythm, but at these words, she looks up suddenly. Her eyes are at half-mast and her nose rubs against Hector’s throat.
“Soldier?” she mumbles.
“Yes, love?”
“Jaheira just say she’s proud of us?”
Hector smiles and presses a kiss against her hairline. “She did.”
She gives him a bleary smile. “I think I’m dreaming,” she murmurs. “But it’s a nice dream, so don’t wake me up, m’kay?”
He rubs his fingers gently at the base of her neck. “You have my word.”
She makes an inarticulate, happy sound and buries her face back into his chest.
Jaheira chuckles. “Perhaps I am not so sorry as I thought that the bards have made so much of me,” she says lightly. “One could get used to such adoration.” She draws a long inhale through her nose, savoring the scent of the forest around them, and then exhales it in a heavy sigh. “You should get some rest, cub,” she adds gently. “We’ve a long walk in the morning, and many more to follow.”
Hector lifts an eyebrow at her. “I could say the same of you.”
She laughs. It's a sharp, almost barking sound - a trifle bitter, but not without humor. “It has been many, many years since I last slept a full night, Carlisle. I think tonight will be no different. But there may yet be hope for you.”
He shrugs - carefully, trying not to jostle Karlach's head. “Perhaps. But…” He smiles sheepishly. “I need to bring this one along with me, and I don’t think she’s much in the mood to move at present.”
“Mm. I will help you move her, then. You have both earned a better bed than the cold forest ground.” Jaheira glances at the two bottles sitting side by side against the tree trunk, and snorts softly. “She has told me something of her story. I suppose a decade in the Hells must lend one a certain tolerance for the weak drinks of the material plane. All the same, I have seen stronger warriors than her felled by the combination of Balor ale and fireswill. I am impressed that she is still conscious.”
He frowns. “It’s a special occasion,” he says with a shrug. “We all needed to let loose a little, I think.”
She grins. “Oh, do not mistake me - I am not judging. Besides, practically the whole camp is passed out. I was surprised to find anyone else awake at all. Well, besides Dame Aylin,” she corrects herself with a low laugh, glancing over her shoulder. “She keeps a vigil in the moonlight and was quite uninterested in the revelry. Perhaps the daughter of a goddess sees little point in the meager wine that mortals brew.”
Involuntarily, Hector looks up, following Jaheira's gaze to see if he can spot the aasimar in prayer. But wherever it is that Aylin is apparently keeping vigil is out of his sight, masked by the tents or the trees or the gentle, moonlit darkness. “I still can't believe it,” he murmurs, slowly starting to squirm out from beneath Karlach's weight. “My Lady's daughter, here in flesh. She laid a hand on my shoulder and said she would follow me.” He pauses and then smiles ruefully. “It's the only thing that could possibly be more astonishing than you saying the same thing.”
Jaheira looks at him curiously for a moment. Then she catches Karlach by the shoulder and helps to lift her up so that Hector can wriggle sideways onto his knees. “For so many years, you have had faith in Selune,” she points out. “And yet you are surprised to receive it in return, in the hour of crisis?”
Hector grunts and pushes himself to his feet, hooking Karlach's arm over his shoulder. Between them, they lift her onto her feet; she's definitely almost asleep now and mumbles inarticulately at the motion.
“I don't deserve it,” he says quietly, more to himself than to Jaheira.
Jaheira smiles faintly, bracing herself to help hold up Karlach's considerable weight. “A thing worth knowing, Carlisle, if you are on a path of which songs will be sung,” she answers, “is that you no longer get to choose what you deserve. Least of all the faith that is put in you.”
Hector doesn't answer directly at first. “Come on, love,” he tells Karlach gently. “Let's get back to the tent.”
“Tired…” Karlach mumbles.
“I know. I’ve got you…” He drapes one hand around her waist to keep her upright, and they take a few awkward steps forward. On Karlach's other side, Jaheira moves easily, adjusting to the rhythm of their movement to help support her.
They're almost to Karlach's tent before Hector finally speaks again, and it’s so low Jaheira probably has to strain to hear it. “I don’t want to let you down,” he mutters. “Any of you.”
To his surprise, Jaheira laughs softly. “Hector,” she says, “you still have the bone dust of the god of death on your fists. What right would I have to feel you have failed me?”
He crouches at the flap of the tent, lowering Karlach carefully. “Myrkul was one thing,” he says. “But there is so much that lies ahead. We face an elder brain. And those two other Chosen, the Bhaalist and Gortash…”
Karlach squirms suddenly, her eyes opening halfway. The sudden movement overbalances Hector and he falls sideways, hitting the ground next to the bedroll with a grunt, Karlach half on top of him. “I’ll kill ‘im,” she growls unsteadily, struggling to right herself, one hand planted in the middle of Hector’s chest. “Gortash… that fuckin’...”
“Shhhhh…” Jaheira leans forward and presses her palm gently to Karlach’s shoulder. “Not now. Rest. You are no use to anyone if you do not sleep.”
Karlach blinks blearily, and then lets the pressure of Jaheira’s hand guide her backwards, until she sprawls out onto the bedroll, her head lolling into the pillow. Her gaze drifts out of focus, and then her eyes fall closed. “‘Kay,” she whispers, the burst of energy fading as quickly as it came. “G’night…”
To Hector’s intense surprise, Jaheira doesn’t draw back immediately. Instead, she settles her weight down on her knees next to the bedroll and simply looks at Karlach in silence for a little while. Then she reaches out and brushes a stray bit of hair off the younger woman’s forehead, with a gentleness Hector has never seen from her before.
“Rest, Karlach,” she murmurs. “There will be many battles to fight in the morning… but none of them call you tonight. Rest and breathe nature's clean air. Let it bring you peace while there is peace to be had.”
Hector listens in silence. It is hard to imagine Jaheira singing a lullaby, and yet there is something of that cadence in her words - and something like a prayer, too, gentle and meditative. As she looks at Karlach's half-sleeping form, her thoughts seem for a moment to be far away. Something of the brittle, sardonic mask has slipped, just for a moment, and he can see age and weariness and regret through the cracks.
The remaining tension in Karlach's body fades and she sags, her head slumping against Jaheira’s fingers. “Where's Hector?” she mumbles, just barely audible.
Jaheira smiles. “He is here. I do not think he would leave your side if I tried to drag him away.” She turns, rests a hand gently on Hector's arm for a moment, then draws back and out of the tent, looking back at him sitting in the opened flap.
“I will not tell you, Carlisle, that all will be well,” she says quietly. “Nor do I think you would believe me if I did. But it is well for tonight. And tomorrow… we will meet what comes. I am not mistaken in you, nor is Aylin; of that you may be certain.”
He feels a sudden tight lump in his throat, and for a moment he can't quite speak. “Thank you,” he finally murmurs.
“And take care of each other,” she adds gruffly, jerking her head to indicate Karlach. “The road is hard, but to travel with someone you love is a gift. Treasure it.”
“I do,” he answers, following her gaze back to the woman he loves. Karlach is certainly asleep now, facedown on the bedroll. Her shoulders rise and fall in a steady rhythm, lacking the tension and twitching energy of her waking hours. “Every moment.”
She nods slowly, and for a moment seems to look through him, back towards some memory long out of her grasp. “Then you are doing all I can ask of you,” she says softly.
Suddenly the moment breaks. Her head snaps back and her gaze hoods over with wry humor again. “Now, ye gods, lie down and rest yourself as well, boy. We are free of the shadows at last; I can breathe again and I mean to enjoy it. It would be a poor ending to my night to have to knock you out.” She laughs sharply and gives him a gentle nudge with her boot to push him fully back inside the tent. Then, without waiting for a response, she turns and walks away, disappearing like a shadow back towards the warm dark of the forest.
ok hear me out… hurt comfort w flatmate!matty🙏 this is a bit self indulgent on my behalf (soz) but im imagining reader getting bad news or having to have a difficult phone call from home and not wanting to dump it on matty but obvs they share a wall and he can hear her… holding her hand when she has to make a hard call and telling her she did well, letting her talk ab it but also just being there as support…. im having thoughts 🧍‍♀️
combining w finding life kinda tough at the moment and needing some matty fluff of him like looking after me for the day lol
you're having a bit of a time of it anyway with work and studying and the emotional drainage of being in love with your best friend and then one day you just get a call from home about something vaguely shitty (idk what) and it just sends you over the edge. and you know matty's next door so you try to bite your lip and breathe to stop from sobbing, but the walls are so thin that even the tiny ones you let out are audible from next door - within seconds, matty's knocking on your door like "sweetheart? you ok?" and when you don't answer (covering your mouth so as not to cry) he gently opens the door and peers in. his heart breaks when he sees you all teary and trembling on your bed, and he just runs over and hugs you tightly into his chest like "oh, darlin', it's alright, i'm here" and you just break down into his chest as he rubs your back and whispers "let it out, baby, that's it. breathe, in through the nose, yeah, you're ok darlin', i've got you". and once you calm down a bit and wipe your eyes you apologise for crying on him and matty's like "hey, none of that, please, s'what i'm here for. you don't have to, but do you want to tell me what's wrong?", and you spill the details of everything that's happened and get a bit teary again, and matty just listens and hugs you through it before saying "i think you need to take some time off work, babe, you're overwhelming yourself. why don't you give them a call and let them know what's up?" (thinking maybe it's exam season but your part-time job keeps scheduling you for overtime and you really can't do it all). and you say "will you sit with me while i do?" and matty's like "always", and he takes your hand and rubs it gently while you phone your boss and resolve the work situation, then kisses your forehead and says "that was good. i'm proud of you for doing that". and then he's determined to make sure you have a nice day - runs you a bubble bath and hands you a cup of tea to take in with you, orders a takeaway to be delivered once you're relaxed from the hot water and wrapped in some cosy pyjamas (aka his clothes lol), then snuggles up with the food and you on the couch watching shitty reality tv and 90s/00s romcoms until you're back to your usual smiley self <3
