i havent shared my thoughts on here yet but i really enjoyed episode 1 of My Beautiful Man! i missed these characters and its seems like it'll be good time!

Im glad that for season 2 they are leaning heavily on the dynamic of Hira and Kiyoi feeling the same about each other, but they think the other is thinking the opposite/something harsh. which they can overcome by communicating better and letting go of their insecurities but thats harder than it sounds and i LIKE that we’re not jumping to seeing them in some kind of perfect relationship. makes for a good show to me! i love seeing characters work on themselves.

As we saw in season 1, they had a lot of things to work on in their relationship in order to be in an equal partnership, instead of one where kiyoi is pedestalized which is harmful for both of them. BUT they can’t get their overnight, or even just after a few months. Relationships take work no matter how long you’ve been together. Its not that everything is hunky dory with all the issues worked out in a few years, and its realistic to show it. there will always be miscommunications, overreactions, fights, apologies, insecurities, frustration, and yet you still want to work on it everyday because thats what a relationship is.

People also bring their own insecurities and traumas into all relationships, and working on those takes A LOT of time and patience on both parts. Hira is still struggling not pedastalizing kiyoi and understanding how kiyoi feels about their relationship, while also struggling to value himself as individual who is allowed to take up space and people enjoy being around. Kiyoi is still working on being patient with hira’s insecurities and communicating without jumping to anger when he feels misunderstood or emotionally exposed, while also trying to push himself with his budding career in the spotlight while balancing (and possibly hiding, not sure yet) his queer relationship with hira. It was great to see Kiyoi apologize the next day for reacting so harshly because it helps us understand that there is growth happening regarding their communication and that they’ll work on it. which is what i am most excited to see: the development!! i live for good character/relationship growth arcs! which is good cause kiyoi def knows he needs to chill on getting physical with my boy!

the most endearing thing about this show is that even though hira and kiyoi are so different, they also arent...if that makes sense haha! and no matter how different they are, they feel the same thing towards each other, with the equal intensity and love and that feeling of "please dont let me go!". a couple of times hira was worried that kiyoi was thinking "i could leave at the drop of a hat", but at the end when kiyoi shares what he's actually feeling he says:

thats PEAK them ya know!

its fun to see all the parallels between them as well! thats what season 1 did really well too so im excited to see more! things like hira thinking:

and then kiyoi saying:

eeeeppp!!! so fun! cant wait to see more!

SCOTUS is hearing on the constitutionality of the ban as tiktok and creators are arguing that it is a violation of our first amendment rights to free speech, freedom of the press and freedom to assemble.

SCOTUS: tiktok bad, big security concern because china bad!

Tiktok lawyers: if china is such a concern why are you singling us out? Why not SHEIN or temu which collect far more information and are less transparent with their users?

SCOTUS (out loud): well you see we don’t like how users are communicating with each other, it’s making them more anti-american and china could disseminate pro china propaganda (get it? They literally said they do not like how we Speak or how we Assemble. Independent journalists reach their audience on tt meaning they have Press they want to suppress)

Tiktok users: this is fucking bullshit i don’t want to lose this community what should we do? We don’t want to go to meta or x because they both lobbied congress to ban tiktok (free market capitalism amirite? Paying off your local congressmen to suppress the competition is totally what the free market is about) but nothing else is like TikTok

Tiktok as a community has chosen to collectively migrate TO a chinese owned app that is purely in Chinese out of utter spite and contempt for meta/x and the gov that is backing them.

My fyp is a mix of “i would rather mail memes to my friends than ever return to instagram reels” and “i will xerox my data to xi jinping myself i do not care i share my ss# with 5 other people anyway” and “im just getting ready for my day with my chinese made coffee maker and my Chinese made blowdryer and my chinese made clothing and listening to a podcast on my chinese made phone and get in my car running on chinese manufactured microchips but logging into a chinese social media? Too much for our gov!” etc.

So the government was scared that tiktok was creating a sense of class consciousness and tried to kill it but by doing so they sent us all to xiaohongshu. And now? Oh it’s adorable seeing this gov-manufactured divide be crossed in such a way.

This is adorable and so not what they were expecting. Im sure they were expecting a reluctant return to reels and shorts to fill the void but tiktokers said fuck that, we will forge connections across the world. Who you tell me is my enemy i will make my friend. That’s pretty damn cool.

Back in 2017 I signed up for one of the Cards Against Humanity sillies and did their Cards Against Humanity Saves America. Basically they were like fuck Tr*mp and his border wall and used the funds from the campaign to buy land and to make all 150,000 contributors part owners of said land across the US/Mexico border.

It was fun and silly and I got a little certificate.

Today I got an email that Elon Musk illegally annexed that land for SpaceX and that CAH are suing him over it. So possibly I’ll get like $100 if they manage to win a lawsuit and stick it to Musk. It’s like even more bang for my original buck.
