Trials of Apollo animatic wip
Edit: Just realized that things would probably make a lot more sense with the script, so here it is :)
(Keep in mind, this is something I made for a drama project, so a lot of this is whittled down to be comprehensible to people who haven't read ToA- also the reason for the stage directions in the script)
(Music passage 1)
Meg: So, a god again, huh?
Apollo: Indeed, but I will not continue like before. I've learnt from my mortality, and Olympus isâŠÂ
Meg: Messed up?
Apollo: Yes, that.Â
Meg: Hah, no surprises there. So, what'll you do about, y'know, your dad?
Apollo: I⊠don't know yet, but what he did⊠does to me, it isn't right, and neither is what he does to demigods, or⊠the rest of Olympus, and he cannot be allowed to continue
I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor
Headed north on Mills Avenue
And listened to the engine roar
(Music Passage 2)
Meg: So, you've been hanging out with your relatives, huh?
Apollo: My godly siblings, yes. We've not always been kind to one another, but I hope we can be, in the future. You understand.
Meg: Yeah, it's nice to get to know some of my siblings without Nero breathing down our necks
My broken house behind me and good things ahead
A girl named Cathy wants a little of my time
Six cylinders underneath the hood crashing and kicking
Aha! Listen to the engine whine
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me
(Music Passage 3)
Meg: So, a revolution?
Apollo: He cannot be allowed to act without recompense, I cannot chance that he will hurt my family again, not you, or my children, or Artemis or any of my divine siblings
Meg: (sits down) âŠOr you
Apollo: Or me.Â
I played video games in a drunken haze
I was 17 years young
Hurt my knuckles punching the machines
The taste of Scotch rich on my tongue
(Music Passage 4)
Meg: (getting up, begin slowly walking off) So, what's it you wanted to talk about?
Apollo: âŠI got Athena on board
Meg: (stops) Oh
Apollo: We're confronting him tomorrow
Meg: Okay⊠Don't die, dummy
And then Cathy showed up and we hung out
Trading swigs from a bottle all bitter and clean
Locking eyes, holding hands
Twin high maintenance machines
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me
I drove home in the California dusk (Come on stage; take quiver)
I could feel the alcohol inside of me hum (Pause and emotionally prepare)
Pictured the look on my stepfather's face (Open door)
Ready for the bad things to come (Draw arrow; Zeus turns; Fire)
I downshifted as I pulled into the driveway (Lightning thrown; Dodge + Explosion; Another shot)
The motor screaming out stuck in second gear (Shot lands; Lighting thrown; Lightning blocked with arms)
The scene ends badly as you might imagine (Lightning; Lightning)
In a cavalcade of anger and fear (Reach for arrow; Realize the strike is coming, and fall to the ground at âfearâ)
There will be feasting (sparks in the corner) and dancing (sparks in the corner) in Jerusalem next year (Tableau as Apollo has his anime power of friendship flashback)
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me (Get up with great difficulty; Stumble)
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me (Take arrow, step to strong beatâ make + through, stab at âkills meâ)
(Music Passage 5)
The aftermath; reeling from his bittersweet victory in the first half
Apollo: I⊠I did it⊠We won⊠(relieved, scared, tired smile)
Olympian throne room bg swirls and fades as if teleportation; Aeisthales
Apollo: (~Eye contact of understanding~) âŠhey MegâŠ
Meg: (~Pause of processing~) âŠYou did it, you killed him
Apollo: YeahâŠ
Meg: So, what's next?
Apollo: I⊠don't know, but⊠there's time to find outÂ

CONFLICT = CHEMISTRY!
in which, you and sae got into a lil conflict outside a football stadium & the paparazziâs made a false statement that the two of you are dating.
an itoshi sae smau series
written.
act v, ep 044 : disaster | next part
wc : 1k
the drive to the restaurant was not as it used to be, the sensation felt a little more warmer. that time he picked you up, you swore your heart raced a little faster.
he looked good, black trousers with a white buttoned up shirt accompanied with a black tie, as he opened the door for you and closed it.
when you saw the restaurant, it is no doubt, a fancy one. definitely looks like one that would need a reservation to attend.
he opened your door for you, as you were about to. and the moment you did, snaps of pictures could be heard from people around the sidewalk.
he took you to the inside of the restaurant, and the waiter immediately took you guys to a private lounge upstairs, it gave one the most beautiful city view that you could see.
it was set with a dim light, and a table for two was beside the giant window. as the waiter guided the two of you there, sae looked at you.
âyou donât mind if it was a little.. flashy right?â he asked, and you glanced at him, âyeah, of course.â you gave a light chuckle. he nodded, and sat down on the seat across of yours.
the dinner was really something, the things that you ordered had a rich flavor in it. and somewhat, a conversation with sae really made your night.
even tho it was just a simple get to know each other, and turns out, he gave you a lot of interesting information about himself. like how he started football just at the age of one, or how he dislikes french fries cause he thinks itâs unhealthy for him.
you also shared a fair share of laugh especially when he revealed that his weakness was that he really donât know anything except for football, but what really makes it interesting is that how he never thought about his and rinâs fight as fights, but as his brotherâs rebellion stage.
after dinner was over, you just thought oh, itâs just another date for the media again. you really didnât expect when he took you to a hill. âwhere are we going?â you questioned, and he glanced at you for a second.
âsomewhere to see the city lights better.â he said, you really didnât expect heâd do this. but you kept quiet, âwell, you donât have any plans, right?â he asked and you nodded, âi donât.â
âgood.â he said, you can feel the wind getting colder as he took you farther to the top, and the two of you arrived to a scenic overlook.
when you got out of the car, you could see the scene from above was breathtaking, as the moon accompanied the night sky that was full with stars. âso, why are we here?â you questioned again, and he leaned into the rails, âi thought we needed some alone time, from the camera clicks.â
but, isnât that the whole point that we go on these dates? is what you wondered, but you didnât question it due to the fear of him getting annoyed at you.
the silent spoke so much of this moment, you looked at his face, as again, his face really do look handsome in this lights, as you admired him.
his eyes turned from the scenery to you. and your eyes widened before looking away, it was awkward. âis there something in my face?â
âno, no. nothing.â you said, âyou were awfully looking at it weird.â whoops. it feels like youâre playing a game of choices. make the right words or youâre gonna die.
âi was just..â you couldnât get your words out and he just letted out a small huff, âadmiring me?â he said, a hint of sarcasm was heard, but your heart betrayed your mind that was trying to convince you it wasnât like that.
âi donât mind.â he said, switching his glance from you to the city once more. yet he could see your hands trembling a bit, and by some reasons, he took your hand and held it.
and the trembling faded, the two of you were stuck like that for a while him by your side, holding his hand just focused on the city, yet your mind raced with thoughts, as his was not so different.
he did not know why he would do this, to somebody, or more specifically to you, someone that he was so sure that could be just acquaintances.
he hated the way his heart would increase the speed near you, like how it would when he plays in the field. he really never knew of what the feeling of liking someone. but he is so sure this is not how it feels.
so why is he so obsessed with how you are right now? why does he want to hold your hand, and stay close for just a little longer?
this time, he was the one who unconsciously admiring you, as you noticed it, you spoke, âwhat?â
â[name].â he muttered your name, âwhy is rin so protective of you?â he asked, and you let out a small hum, âi donât know.â
âmaybe heâs just a good friend.â you said the obvious, and sae looked at you. âdo you like him?â
âno!â you answered almost immediately, after that deeptalk you had with rin last time, you never imagined you being more than close-friends with rin.
âi see him as, my younger brother. thatâs all.â you gave him a subtle smile, as he heard that, he looked at you, to your lips, back to the eyes, âso, you donât mind.. if i,â
your stomach felt like it was flying with butterflies, you raised your eyebrow, his position changed as he leaned in. and before you knew it, he kissed you.
you froze, this isnât what you expected at all. wasnât this supposed to be just.. a fake date for the media? your eyes was still opened, before your mind got ahead of you.
and you kissed him back, it took you 5 seconds before you felt your emotions of regret came, and you pulled away first.
âhm?â he looked at you, your face looks conflicted. and he didnât like that reaction, âwhatâs wrongââ
âcan you take me home? please.â you just said, and he realized what he just did. oh.
why did he do that? even he wondered it, he just wanted you and couldnât hold back anymore, but he went quiet before nodding, âi see, of course [name].â

#My art#Webkinz#Diamond#Ukadevlog#Ghostkinz#Ta-dah! My November behind-the-scenes project was this! The poll was for this reason! Though I already knew I'd start with her haha#Have a little preview to start us off - I have Lots of thoughts to each part of development I ended up in but I want to roll them out slowly#Not everything all at once anyway haha - thoughts get all jumbled now that I'm on this side of things pft#I wasn't able to finish A Version I'd be willing to publish in just a month - even then I only worked on Ghostkinz about 3 days a week so#But for the time I spent I'm quite pleased with how its shaped up so far! :D I got to implement a lot!#Actually learning-then-implementing-then-learning-then-implementing - it's a loop I've been out of for such a long time now :0#Really interesting to fall back into after so long away haha#A lot of my other projects have been Pick Up One Thing and then do that forever and I was tired-tired of that!!#So going into this project knowing that I'd only have November to Get Guud at as much of it as possible and then that was it#I think it helped propel me - didn't end with me getting stuck on Perfecting Just This One Thing#I'd read a bit and then go utilize it and then come back and read some more of Zarla's template/walkthrough - compelling system!#I still couldn't manage to actually finish in a month but I got up to Phase 4!! Previous attempts at Ghost-making has gotten stalled at 1!!#Maaaybe 2 but never anything beyond that - and while I didn't actually Finish any Phase apart from 1 I still read through much much more!#On top of the learning aspect being fun âȘ getting to understand some of the more technical side ahh - it was also just fun to read haha#Like a course that can be silly hehe â« Enjoyable even outside of getting to make a little guy for my screen haha#But also yes that too!! I'm really glad I finally settled on an idea that I feel confident in seeing through#The best part about reaching for the Webkinz style is that Webkinz uses vectors - I've gone on record multiple times as loving vectors#They're an exceptionally easy medium to manipulate and that was The Thing that had been holding me back from committing to Ghosts prior#Drawing every single thing when I already struggle to plug in my tablet...no...... But Vectors#You can see here that Diamond's expressions are just a matter of tilting her head and moving her tail - so so soooo simple with vectors#Being able to super-quickly put out a lot of different expressions and animations and piecemeal everything together...yes..........#And for what further I have in mind :3c It's really all I could ask for in an art style to seek ah âȘ Just right for my purposes!#I thought it'd be nice to show off Diamond-for-real as her plush next to her digital version as well :D She's still the only OG8 I have#I want more!! I'd love to have a code for her as well haha - secretly just started this so I can have a digital Diamond lol#Plush-Diamond actually wears a necklace these days but I opted to leave it off her for the photoshoot - maybe once I figure out clothes haha

post prison! spencer x genius fem! reader
masterlist | ko-fi
summary: all your life, youâve been second-best. Even now that youâve been chosen to be an agent of the BAU, youâre just a replacement for Spencer Reid. What could change now thatâs heâs out?
cw: there is a bit of an age gap, i imagined reader in her early to mid 20âs, nevermind how it isnât accurate for working at FBI. this is a criminal minds fic, so there are graphic depictions of violence, as well as implied/referenced child neglect/abuse in readers childhood, reader is somewhat a genius
tropes/tags: slowburn on readers end, Spencer is flirting from the beginning, HURT/COMFORT, angst, bit of a sick fic in one scene, bit of soft dom! spencer as a treat
a/n : this came to me in a prophecy. full disclosure i havenât actually seen the prison arc yet so if thereâs any inaccuracies shhhhhh look at the fluff
also !! this is a LOOOOONG one. strap yourselves in. grab snacks and drinks
slipped in some very slight father figure Hotch bc thatâs my crack
title taken from Mirrorball by Taylor Swift
ââââ ââ
â ââââ
Spencer Reid is absolutely nothing like youâd thought heâd be.
From how the team talked about him, youâd been expecting a short, slight man. Someone quiet and meek and non-threatening.
And Dr. (Agent?) Reid was quiet. But not in the donât-notice-me way, but in the I-know-what-Iâm-doing-and-donât-need-to-say-it way. He quietly commanded attention and respect. One look at the man told you he was not somebody to fuck with.
He was also really, really, really hot.
It was unfortunate and difficult, truly, because heâs your senior agent, someone whoâs got more than a few years on you in both field experience and general age. Heâs a genius- insanely good at what he does and thereâs no refuting that.
But most of all, heâs kind and respectful and just genuinely a good person. And also good looking. Did you mention that yet?
He clicks seamlessly into place with the team in a way youâve never managed to do in the time youâve been with him. And after all, why would you? Youâre just the rookie transfer with a bit higher than average IQ. Nothing to brag about. Nothing like Spencer.
You were a data analyst with the FBI before your boss told you: âThe BAU is looking for a temporary genius. I put your name in the ring. Hotchner mustâve been impressed with something, cause he picked you. I know youâve completed the training courses for their team, so pack your desk. Youâve got a new assignment.â
And just like that, every single one of your dreams came true. And then promptly burst into flames and burned to ashes when you realized what exactly your position on the team was: Temporary and replacing.
It makes sense, you guess. The team grew to rely on Reidâs quick wit and intellect. And beyond that, theyâre an agent short. And you fit the bill well enough: swift and intelligent. Nothing more, nothing less. It became clear during the first few weeks that no one on the team had any intention of liking or particularly getting to know you beyond a professional capacity. And you get it, you really do. You donât name the dog youâre gonna get rid of.
With the exception of Penelope. But you donât think she has the ability to ignore someone without a clear reason.
So you did your job and you were good at it. Held the team at armâs length even when they warmed up to you. Kept your head down, stuck to yourself. This way, itâs easier to stop yourself from leaning into JJ and Prentissâs jokes, or to stamp down the glow in your chest from Hotchâs approval.
All of this hard work goes sailing straight out the window and spattering on the concrete below when Reid comes back. Because all it took was one case together- one. And then youâre hopelessly in love with the guy you replaced.
And itâs all kinds of terrible, because itâs Reid. Heâs not only your coworker âsoon to be ex, because now that heâs back youâll be out of a jobâ but heâs also so incredibly out of your league itâs not even funny. But he keeps smiling at you and including you in conversations and saying hi to you and asking your opinion on things during cases as if you would have more to add than he does.
Itâs very hard to keep him at arms length. And because Reid is Reid he drags everybody else over with him and then youâre bonding with a team you have a week left with, maybe two.
Spencer Reid has weaseled his way into your life one stupid smile at a time.
â
The case is going terribly.
What started as a run-of-the-mill serial killer case in some nowhere town turned into huge investigation because Speâ Reid figured out its relation to a cold case from a neighboring town decades prior. And then, to top everything off, just so happens to be near enough to your hometown that your mom saw you on the news when JJ was giving a statement.
And now she wonât stop calling.
Prior to this, you havenât talked to your mom in about seven months. Now? Sheâs calling upwards of twelve times a day.
âMom,â You say, tucked in one of the police stations back rooms, pinching the bridge of your nose, âIâm working, I canât just come out to see youââ
âBut youâve never visited! And your finally in town, andââ
âIâm not in town, Iâm a four hour drive away from town.â
A sigh crackles through the line, her voice tinny. âYou know, your brother always made time to visit family, and your younger brothersââ
âAre younger than me and more successful, yes mom, Iâve heard it all before. Now if youâll excuse me, Iâm trying to catch a serial killer.â
You snap the phone shut before she can protest, effectively ending the call. You sag against the wall, sighing deep and weary. Exhaustion clings to your bones. Itâs not just your mom. This case, being physically close to your hometown, everythingâ itâs weighing you down. You spend more time in the hotel bed tossing and turning than sleeping.
Even Emâ Prentiss had shot you look when youâd came in this morning- though juryâs still out about whether or not it was an are-you-okay look or a you-better-be-good-for-the-case look. Youâre hoping itâs the former.
The room youâre in is empty- the precinct that called for the team went under renovation and remodeling last year, so some of the rooms have fallen into disuse, apparently. Itâs dusty, and filled with boxes and papers and weirdly, one or two condom wrappers. You wish you were surprised.
Your phone has been put strongly on silent, and youâre not expecting anyone to find you for at least twenty minutes. Of course, you donât need twenty minutes. You just need five.
You just need to collect yourself for a moment. A few minutes to breathe, to get your momâs words and the unpleasant memories they bring out of your head; to will the shake out of your hands and the cold creeping in your lungs.
So when the door opens, you nearly jump out of your skin.
Spencer walks in, phone clasped in one hand and a worried expression on his face.
âWeâre getting ready to give the profile.â
âOh,â You peel yourself off the wall, discreetly wiping at your face. You hadnât noticed the frustrated tears carving lines down your face, âSorry, Iâm coming.â
He frowns as you come closer, and panic begins to beat like a drum in your chest.
âIs Hotch upset? I just had to take a call, I thought it wouldââ
âSlow down,â He says, raising his hands. âHotch isnât upset. Is something wrong?â
âNo,â You say quickly, too quickly, because his frown deepens.
âYouâve been taking a lot more calls recently and youâre always upset after theyâre over. Is someone bothering you?â
You sigh, rubbing at your face. âMy mom. Weâre a four hour drive away from my hometown. She saw me on the news when JJ gave her statement.â
Something flashes in his eyes when you say your mother, but itâs gone before you can decipher it.
âYou donât want to see her.â
He says it flat-toned and blank. Like itâs a fact.
It is a fact.
âNo,â You confess, âIâve never been close with my parents. I havenât spoken to her beyond a text in years, and I havenât texted her in months. Then she sees me on the news and Iâm back on her radar again.â
You chuckle, but thereâs no humor in it. âOh, the folly of the disappointing daughter.â
He tilts his head, questioning. âYouâve made something of yourself. Youâre a special agent. Thatâs not nothing.â
âYeah, well. Itâs not Doctor or Lawyer or C.E.O or anything else my brothers or cousins have made of themselves, so,â You shrug. âDisappointing.â
âWell thatâs stupid,â Spencer says, a small curl to his lips, âYou keep all of those stupid people safe by catching serial killers.â
âYouâre a doctor. Did you just call yourself stupid?â
He shrugs, mimicking your earlier action. âIâm not that kind of doctor.â
You look down to hide the smile on your face but he ducks down, catching it anyway.
âHey,â He says, eyes catching yours, âIf you want to talk, you know where to find me.â
You (hesitantly) look up to meet his gaze. âThanks, Reid.â
His face does something weird. Contorts at the words, just for a second. Like he just bit into something sour.
And then itâs gone.
âOf course.â
â
For the rest of the case, everytime your phone rings, Spencer looks at you. Youâre getting close to just throwing the damn thing off a roof, if itâll convince him to stop looking at you like that. You donât know what to do with it. The look he gives you tastes like worry, and you donât know what to do about Spencer Reid worrying about you.
You never meet his gaze. You know heâs looking, but you never look back.
Finally, the case comes to an end. Actually, it goes out in a literal blaze of gloryâ the unsub lights his kill shed on fire.
All of it would have burned to ash if you hadnât run into the structure and and snatched the murder weapon and the most damning pieces of evidence: the printed photographs the unsub took with the victims.
Itâs a win because you saved the evidence.
Itâs a loss because Hotch looks pissed while the paramedics check you over.
Well. You assume he looks pissed. Youâre staring resolutely at your shoes.
Finally, the paramedic gives you the all clear âjust some minor burns here and there, you got luckyâ and you no longer have a human buffer and excuse to avoid talking.
The silence stretches out between you two. Eventually, you cave.
âHotch, Iâm sorryââ
He holds a hand up and you clamp your jaw shut.
âDid you not hear me give the order to stay back?â
âI just thoughtââ
âWe are a team, agent. I need to be able to trust not only that youâre going to follow my orders but be able to work together with the team. Now, youâre not doing either of those things.â
You frown. âI do follow your orders.â
He sighs. âYou didnât today. And more importantly, youâre not acting like a member of this team. You donât call for backup. You donât ask for help. You do good profiling work, agent. But if you canât work with this team then we might need to reconsider your position here.â
That⊠doesnât make any sense.
Hotch catches the confusion on your face. âSomething wrong, agent?â
âI justâ I was under the impression that I would only be working with the team for a few more weeksâŠ?â
Now itâs his turn to look confused. âYou may have been hired at an inopportune time, and until the first year is over it is a probationary basis, but pending review, you are and always have been a permanent member of this unit.â
You blink. âOh.â
Heâs quiet for a moment. âYou didnât think youâd be staying for long.â
You shake your head, your world turned on its head.
He hums. âYou should buy earplugs. Rossi snores.â
You drop your head into your hands.
âAnd agent?â
You look up.
âYou did good work today. You have a team. Learn to use them.â
He walks away, leaving you to process this crisis-inducing information.
So. Youâre not leaving the team. Youâre a profiler. Forever. This is your job now.
So does that mean you werenât replacing Spencer? So why were you hired? Anything you can do multiple people on the team can do better. Why would Hotch pick you?
You stare at the pavement, which gives you a perfect view to watch Spencerâs shoes walk into view and hear him settle next to you.
âYouâre a little young to be having a mid-life crisis.â
It takes you an embarrassingly long time to respond, partly because youâre not sure what to say, but also, the length of his thigh is pressed against yours and itâs hard to think when heâs emanating warmth and you canât stop yourself from thinking about how it would feel to touch, skin to skin.
âWell,â You croak, âI did just get some pretty big news.â
He leans back on his hands, raising an eyebrow. âOh?â
Looking up at him was a mistake. Bathed in the glow of the ambulance and the light from the moon, you can see just how long his eyelashes are, and how his lips move when he says your name.
Oh shit.
âSorry, what?â
His face twitches in a smile. âI asked if you were okay. You were staring.â
You flush from your neck to the tips of your ears. âSorry. Itâs been a long day. Iâm fine. I was just thinking.â
âAbout?â
See, he always does this. Most people would end the conversation there and move on. And thatâs fine. Itâs normal. But Spencer asks. Like heâs interested.
You shrug. âI thought⊠I thought I was leaving the team in a few weeks. Turns out iâm staying.â
He starts swinging his legs on the edge of the ambulance, though where his almost brush the ground, yours swing several inches above it. âWhy did you think you were leaving?â
You laugh softly. âMy boss told me the position was temporary. And in my excitement of getting it I may or may not have⊠not read the paperwork?â
He clicks his tongue. âOh, honey.â
The tips of your ears burn. âI was excited!â
âTo get a job staring at gruesome crime photos?â
âTo help people.â
âWhat? Data analysis not helping people enough?â
âDo I even have to answer that?â
He snorts, his body shaking against yours. âYouâre a consulting analyst. Thatâs the big leagues.â
Now itâs your turn to huff. âIs there a big leagues for data analysis?â
He leans his head down to look at you. âWell, maybe miss smarty-pants over here made a league of her own.â
The shade of red you turn must be visible, dark and bad lighting aside. âYou have an IQ of 187. Can you really call me a smarty-pants?â
He tilts his head, giving you an assessing look. You recognize it. He gives case files the same look.
A faint shudder runs down the length of your spine at that precise, clinical gaze.
It should concern you, unnerve you.
It doesnât.
âNo, Iâm positive. Youâre a smarty-pants.â
You look away, unable to hold the intensity of his gaze.
âHey, no. Come on, you gotta own up to being a smarty-pants. Otherwise you ruin the effect.â
âAm I supposed to start wearing sweaters and Converse, then?â
âWell, that wouldnât be owning the smarty-pants look.â
âDo we have to keep the smarty-pants thing going?â
âTook your mind off the burns, didnât it?â
You blink, realizing that you havenât noticed the dull sting of the minor burns littering your body for a few minutes now.
But that has less to do with Spencer speaking and more to do with the fact that heâs here. Touching you. If you focus really hard, you can feel the chords of muscle lining his arm.
âUh,â You stutter, momentarily flabbergasted by the way heâs looking at you. Like itâs important to himâ you not being in pain. âYeah, yeah, I guess. Well. I feel them now.â
âOh, shame. I guess weâll just have to keep talking.â
You furrow your brows. âDonât you have somewhere else to be? Shouldnât you be helping finish wrapping up the case?â
He shrugs. âIâm right where I want to be.â
Thatâs a decidedly very loaded statement that are not going to unpack.
Youâre not going to unpack to jolt of pure electricity you feel from it, either.
â
You may or may not have lied about just how sick you were, exactly.
âYou know,â Rossi says after you hack a cough into your elbow for what has to be the fiftieth time in as many minutes, âThatâs starting to sound less like the plague and more like desperation.â
You sniff harshly, taking a swig of cough syrup and praying this isnât the king with codeine in it. You didnât read the label very well. âWhat do you mean?â
Prentiss raises an eyebrow. âHeâs saying that most people on their veritable death/bed opt to sleep comfortably in their own beds in their own homes rather than on a plane to hunt down a violent killer.â
You think if your apartmentâ itâs cozy, at least, but still a glaring reminder of the reason you told Hotch you were fine to come in- loneliness.
You have heated blankets and warm lighting and books and tea âboxes and boxes of teaâ and all manner of things that make you happy. But no amount of things can replace, tangible human connection.
You knew the ache of spending the day in your apartment would sting worse than the cold. Fever, Whatever you have.
âIâm thinking of a word,â JJ says, mock tapping her chin thoughtfully, âStarts with work, ends with holic.â
âI am not a workaholic,â you wheeze. âI am fine.â
âYes,â Prentiss says, raising her other eyebrow. Oh no. Not the double eyebrow raise. âBecause this is exactly what the picture of health looks like.â
To avoid answering, you take another swig of cough medicine.
âJust do you know,â Spencer says, âYouâre about one tiny sip of that away from overdosing. Iâd cool it on the cough syrup.â
âBut Iâm still coughing.â
âHave you given it any time to work?â
âItâs been thirty-ish minutes since I took the first dose.â
He levels you with a look at your usage of dose. âWhy donât you wait a little longer before committing suicide via shallow breathing and seizures.â
You wave a hand. âItâs fine. I know how to take care of myself when Iâm sick.â
âIs your version of taking care of yourself just continuously taking medicine until the symptoms become bearable?â
âYouâre un-bearable.â You snort at your play on words, but grow quiet because when you look up, the entire team is looking at you. âWhat?â
âYou never joke.â JJ says.
âAnd I think Iâve heard you laugh exactly two times, and Iâm pretty sure one of them was a sneeze.â Rossi says, a look of vague disbelief on his face.
You squirm in place. âItâs not that big of a deal.â
âUh, yeah it is. Youâre definitely too sick to be on a case if youâre laughing.â
âCome on, it was barely a chuckleââ
Spencer looks around. âYeah, whatâs the big deal? Iâve heard her laugh before.â
JJ and Prentiss snap their heads to him in tandem. âWhat?â
Now he looks vaguely uncomfortable. âI just donât get why itâs such a big deal.â
âThatâs cause you showed up late to the party,â Em- Prentiss says, âYou didnât meet her when she first came. She was all genius consulting data analyst.â
âI wouldnât call myself a geniusââ
âYeah,â JJ chimes in, âI only ever saw her smile to be polite.â
âWait,â Prentiss says, brows pinched, âYou heard her laugh and you didnât tell us? You knew we were trying to see who would make her break first.â
âYou guys were trying to make me laugh? Is that what was happening all that time? I almost called Hotch like, thirty times because I was concerned for you guyâs mental wellbeing. I thought youâd had a nervous breakdown.â
JJ snorts. âNope. Just tried to see if the rumors were true about all data analysts being robots.â
You cough into your elbow. âYou guys make it seem like I was some sort of frigid bitch.â
âFrigid, yes. Bitch, no.â
âHey!â You retort, then wince as the volume of your own voice makes your head pound harder and makes your throat sting worse, âI wasnât that bad. Also, I was nervous! Iâm the youngest person here by like, a long shot. I wanted to be professional.â
âI for one enjoyed it,â Rossi cuts in, âIt was all blunt business. Straight to the point. No beating around the bush or gossiping. A few people here could learn a thing or two.â
âSee?â You gesture. âRossi agrees with me.â
Just about everyone on the plane gives you the exact same look. Hotch especially, whoâs stayed silent during the entire exchange, looks troubled.
Once you land (an ordeal that normally doesnât bother you, but today, had you worshipping the porcelain altar) Hotch pulls you aside.
âAgent,â He says before you climb into the car thatâll take you to the police precinct, âI canât have an agent not at peak performance on this case.â
You frown. âWhat are you saying?â
âIâm saying youâre too sick to work this caseââ
âNo, no, I can work, I can do itââ
ââIn the field. Youâre working from the station until we wrap up. Understood?â
You sigh, knowing when youâre beat. âUnderstood.â
He gazes at you for a second. âYou might want to call out of work entirely the next time youâre sick, you know. The less time you spend resting the longer itâll take to get better. I expect to see you taking care of yourself at the precinct.â
You blink. âAre you⊠dad-ing me?â
He almost smiles. âWell, I am a father. Itâs bound to come out sometimes.â
The joke soothes your concerns of him being upset with you (again.) You suppose it wouldâve been warranted âHotch never gets upset without a reasonâ but still. Heâs the only one you occasionally struggle to read.
The good news is by the time you make it to the station, your medicine has kicked in.
The bad news is when you get to the station your medicine has kicked in.
âSpencer,â You say, spinning in a spinny chair and staring at his blurry face. âDid you know that elephants have prehensileââ
âDo not finish that sentence.â He says, glancing back at the team, all in various stages of concern, disgust, amusement, and annoyance. âDid you take non-drowsy cough medicine?â
âYes! I didnât want to be tired.â
He scrubs a tired hand down his face, then nudges a sealed water bottle across the table to you. âDrink that.â
You wrinkle your nose. âBut my throat hurts.â
âDrink it anyway.â
You snatch the water bottle, grumbling the whole time as you crack the seal and gulp down the water, not realizing how thirsty you were until this very second.
You lean your forehead on the table head still pounding from the pressure in your sinuses. You feel a prickle in the back of your neck, signifying that the team is still staring at you.
With great effort, you lift your head, tilting your chin up and trying to summon all the self confidence you donât actually have.
âI am making a fool of myself. Please disregard my actions until I am no longer ill. This wonât happen again.â
Words are hard. Speaking is hard. With a groan, you drop your head back on your arm.
âAh, there she is.â
âKnew that laugh had to be a fluke.â
âCold medicine must be working.â
There are other mutterings about stubborn geniuses and workaholics and data analysis and Spencer staying at the station andâ
You snap your head up. âIâm fine. I donât need a baby-sitter. Spencer would be most useful in the field. Heâs one of the best shotâs on the team.â
âAnd when it comes to needing a marksman I wonât hesitate to get him,â Hotch says, âBut for now, I need my two geniuses to put their heads together to solve this case.â
Feeling cowed, you avoid Spencerâs gaze as the team files out of the room youâve all set up in, instead grabbing a file from the center of the table. You really are being stupid. You shouldâve stayed home, now youâre a liability, not to mention a walking biohazard. Fuck, why couldnât you just think before youâ
âI can hear you spiraling from over here.â
You lift your gaze, eyeing Spencer who hasnât even put down the case file heâs reading.
You look back down. âI wasnât spiraling.â
âYouâre really going to lie to a profiler?â
âWeâre both profilers.â
âYeah, well, you have an obvious tell when youâre worrying about something.â
âI do not!â
You hear the quiet shuffling of papers.
A sigh leaves your lips, and you press the heels of your hands to your eyes. âIâm really sorry, Speâ Reid. I didnât mean to drag you here with me.â
If he notices your slip up, he doesnât give any indication of it.
âWho said anything about dragging?â
âI know youâre a germaphobe, and Iâm a walking biohazard, and now youâre stuck here going over case files and, and Iâm a liability right nowââ
âSlow down,â He says, interrupting your slew of word vomit. His voice has dropped an octave, gaining a richer note. You should stop thinking about his voice. âIâm fine. Youâre fine. The team is more worried than upset. Youâre not the first person to come to work sick. And you wonât be the last.â
âThey keep staring at me.â
âBecause your current state and manner of behavior are disrupting their pre-conceived notions and set opinions of your character.â
You scrunch your nose. âDonât get all clinical on me,â
You hear a small huff of laughter across the table. âIâve come to work far worse than hopped up on cold medicine, believe me. Donât worry about it. Just focus on working the case.â
Slowly, the itching under your skin settles, and you manage to swallow the lump in your throat. Eventually, you peel your hands away from your face and do what he says.
Hours pass by in a blur of text and you and Spencer occasionally either bouncing ideas off each other or making small breakthroughs. Spencer handles the relay of information because you canât really go more than three full sentences without hacking up a lung. Seriously, what is cough syrup good for?
Sometime past midday, you start flagging. The words start blending and smushing together and your head gets harder and harder to hold up. Youâre jolting yourself back awake every five minutes, forcing your body to just bear through the illness for the sake of productivity. You got yourself into this mess, you deal with the consequences.
Youâre just⊠so tired. Maybe youâll close your eyes, just for a few minutes. To get energy. And then you can get back to the case.
Just for a few minutes.
â
âShe out?â
âLike a light. Powered through for a lot longer than I expected. But dextromethorphan gets us all in the end.â
A low whistle. âPoor kid. The âproving yourself to the teamâ phase is rough.â
A hum. âI think itâs more than that.â
A beat passes.
âYou got her?â
âYeah,â Something soft and good smelling, like pine and coffee and something almost rich settles over your shoulders, âYeah, I got her.â
â
When you wake, your neck is sore but youâre not cold, which is strange considering you remember falling asleep in a table.
Oh god you fell asleep on the table.
You jackrabbit up in place, knees knocking against the underside of the table. Hissing in pain, you tug the warm thing further around your shoulders which isâ
Holy fucking shit itâs Spencerâs sweater.
Said man is nowhere to be found, and the conference/briefing room youâre in is dark. Not only did someone turn the lights off (youâre pretty sure you can guess who) but itâs dark outside. Meaning you didnât just take a short nap.
You slept the entire day away.
Cold dread seeps into your shoulders. âOh my god Iâm so fired. Oh shit. Fuck, Hotch is going to be so pissedââ
The door opens and you stand, whirling around to face the doorway and then instantly regretting it when spots dance across your vision and your head swims.
You stumble, grabbing the edge of the chair for support and squinting at the figure in the doorway.
âHotch?â
âNope,â Spencerâs voice rings out in the room, âGuess again.â
You groan, sinking down into the chair. âAm I fired?â
He snorts. âSeeing as Hotch bet that youâd fall asleep before dark, Iâd say no.â
âHe bet against me?â
âActually, everyone else thought youâd only last an hour. He bet for four.â
âHow long did you bet for?â
He sets a mug in front of you, steaming tea wafting up and warming your face. âThree hours. You metabolize cough syrup better than I thought.â
You take the mug in your hands, warming your fingers but not actually taking a sip. âMmm. Told you Iâve done this before.â
âI donât think thatâs the brag you think it is.â
You chuckle, which quickly turns into a cough.
âDrink your tea,â He commands softly from across the table, sleeves pushed up around his elbows and papers spread about him.
You dutifully take a sip, something restless growing calm in the back of your skull.
You eye is forearms, hoping the look-over youâre giving them is subtle. (It probably isnât, but come on. A button down with the sleeves rolled up while youâre wearing his sweater is practically sinful.)
âDo you⊠want the lights turned back on? Iâm awake now, so.â
He flips over a piece of paper, then scribbles something on a sticky note. âYou were sleeping. And you have a headache. I can see just fine.â
âMy headache isnât that bad, really, Iâm fiââ
He levels you with a look, and you sink a little lower in your chair. âDo you at least want your sweater back?â
âNo. Keep it.â
âCareful, maybe Iâll just keep it forever,â You joke.
âIâd be fine with that.â
What. The. Fuck.
You stand, pushing out the chair with a loud screech. âIâm just gonnaâ bathroom,â You splutter, your face blazing and stomach doing a gymnastics routine, âIâm gonna use the bathroom. Bye.â
Youâre screaming internally the entire way to the bathroom, and once you get there, open-mouthed silent screaming in the privacy of a stall.
Because. He said. He didnât even look up. He just. And he. Maybe heâ
No, no, no. You are not about to entertain that notion. Not again. He was just being nice. Thatâs all. Thatâs all.
Collecting yourself takes about five more minutes, and then youâre walking back to the conference/briefing room when you realize you never took the damn sweater off. He watched you scramble out of that room to the bathroom he has to know you werenât using, with his sweater on.
This is the end for you, then. Thatâs it. Itâs over.
You mentally slap yourself. Get it together. Itâs fine. Itâs fine. Everything is fine.
You re-enter the room marginally calmer than you left it. You slide into your seat, sip your tea (that he made you!) and keep working on the case.
You pretend you canât see him smirking from across the table.
â
The case doesnât last too long. The team catches the guy in the act of beating his next victim. Thankfully, you manage to save the poor woman before he finishes his plan, and with being caught red-handed, itâs fairly open and shut. Case closed. Which is great, because you really arenât sure how many more nights you can suffer through trying to sleep in the hotel bed.
You have this thing, when youâre sick. You canât sleep anywhere but the couch. Your couch. You figured (apparently foolishly) that it wouldnât be too bad, since the crux of the issue is that you hate sleeping in your bed when youâre sick, but no. Youâd spent every night of the case tossing and turning and coughing yourself out. Your lungs were tired. Your body was tired. You were tired.
Spencer raises an eyebrow at you when you board the jet. âYou havenât been near-overdosing on cough syrup again have you?â
âNo,â You grouse, rubbing your face with your hand. âIâm like, not even sick anymore. I just didnât sleep well.â For several nights in a row.
âMmm,â He hums, non-committal.
You practically collapse into your usual seat on the jet, hunching in yourself and attempting to make yourself comfortable in the seat.
You blink your eyes open when you feel the seat jostle next to you. âReid?â
Heâs already pulling out a book. âWhat?â
âThis isnât your seat.â
âWe donât have assigned seats.â
âNo, but you always sit over there.â
âAnd now Iâm sitting here.â
You narrow your eyes at him, trying to decide if you want to argue him on the point or not. You decide against it, because arguing will draw attention to the fact that youâre sitting next to each other having this conversation at all.
You settle back into your seat. âWhatever. Hope youâre not a loud page-turner.â
âIs that even a thing?â
You shrug, eyes falling shut again.
After a few minutes, you shiver, unconsciously scooting closer to the warmth of the person next to you, your sleep-addled brain barely processing the fact that itâs Spencer youâre pressing your shoulder into.
He repositions next to you, shoulder jostling you. You grumble, dropping your head to his arm. Now much closer, your nose fills with the smooth, all encompassing smell that is Spencer.
The dull chatter that fills the plane, the warm body next to yours, and, despite your earlier complaints, the quiet, gentle page-turning lull you into an easy sleep.
â
âAre you drugging her or something? Iâve seen her sleep more this week than I have in her entire time on the team.â
âThe only drugging sheâs done was voluntary.â
âHer neck is going to be so sore when she wakes up.â
âSore? Mine would be broken if I did that.â
âAh, the joys of youth.â
A beat passes. Then another.
âSheâs a bit young, donât you think?â
âEmily donât startââ
âJust saying, Spence. HR would get a kick out of this.â
âNot like it never happens. Weâve all walked into supply closet B at the wrong time.â
âThis isnât meaningless sex though.â
ââŠNo.â
Silence.
âAre you sure youâre alright?â
A deft hand re-adjusts your head to a more comfortable angle. âI will be.â
â
Landing jolts you into wakefulness and off Spencerâs shoulder. Itâs not embarrassing. Itâs not. Itâs only weird if you make it weird.
When youâre all back at HQ, you pull Hotch aside.
âCan I talk to you for a minute?â
He nods. âIn my office.â
You stalk up the stairs, aware of the eyes following your back. You step into the office, shutting the door behind you and pretending it doesnât feel like sealing your doom.
He sits, gesturing for you to do so too, but you shake your head.
âI wonât be long. I just wanted to apologize.â
He blinks. âFor?â
âI shouldnât have come in. I was a liability, and it was unprofessional. Next time Iâll act with more discretion.â
Selfish, Your motherâs words echo in your head, your fatherâs words following suit: Try harder.
He laces his fingers together, resting him on his desk.
âDo you know why I chose you?â
âBecause Reid was gone, and you needed a geâ someone smart.â
âEvery member of my team is intelligent. Thatâs not why I chose you.â
He reaches down, opening a desk drawer and pulling out a newspaper clipping.
Your breath hitches when you read the words on it.
âGarcia found it,â He says, scanning the piece of paper. ââProfessorâs Assistant saves college class from school shooterâ. You were sixteen.â
You look down at your shoes. âIt was the scariest moment of my life. I didnâtâ he came in, and I was behind the door getting paper, and he didnât see me. He⊠I knew people would die if I didnât do something. I tackled him. He shot me twice before I managed to kick the gun away. I almost bled out.â
He nods, putting the clipping down. âThatâs who I chose. Not the genius. Not the consulting data analyst. Someone who wants to help people.â
He puts the clipping back in his drawer. âIâm not going to write you up for not having a healthy work-life balance. No one in this bureau does, and if they say they do, theyâre lying.â
You sigh, rubbing at your face. âNow I look stupid for asking to talk.â
âItâs not an imposition. Youâre a member of my team. That makes your wellbeing when youâre on the job my responsibility.â
Unable to form a response to that, you manage to stutter out a thank you, and then flee from his office, collapsing into your chair at your desk with a sigh.
A mug is set in front of you. Different mug, same tea, same hand.
âI think you need to reevaluate your opinion of Hotch and what kind of person you think he is.â
You take the mug with a glare. âI was reasonably concerned.â
âYou thought you were going to get written up for coming to work sick?â
âIt was a logical conclusion to draw,â You pause, taking a sip of the tea, which is just as good as it was last time. Actually, itâs slightly sweeter, and it soothes your throat more. âAnd stop profiling me. Whatâd you put in this?â
âStop being so easy to profile,â Spencer says, crossing his arms. âHoney. They didnât have any at the station.â
Itâs quiet for a few moments: him staring at you, you pretending heâs not staring and sipping your tea.
âYou should go home.â
âWhy?â
âBecause youâre still sick. Donât tell me you just canât wait to write all this paperwork.â
âMaybe I am.â
âNo youâre not,â He picks up your jacket from where itâs hanging off the side of your cubicle and plops it in your lap. âGo home. Iâll sick Hotch on you.â
You stand, shrugging your jacket on and pointing an accusing finger at him. âYouâre a cruel man.â
âMhm. Sure. Go home.â
You grumble all the way to the door, but quiet when you look back to see him watching you fondly. He gives you a little two finger wave, and with the sheer amount of heat that rushes to your cheeks, you have no choice but leave immediately.
Stupid genius co-workers.
â
The next week brings wellness and a lull in cases.
Unfortunately, that also means you donât have an excuse to put off your paperwork any longer.
Spencer taps the top of it with a slender finger. âDid it get bigger since the last time I saw it?â
Heâs hanging around your desk for⊠some reason. He came to drop off paperwork from your last case, and then stuck around for some unknown purpose.
âNo,â You groan, setting your mug of coffee aside and grabbing the first paper off the stack. âStill the same pile Iâm procrastinating on.â
âGood luck,â He huffs, finally turning and walking back to his own desk. Itâs still in your eyeline, if you crane your neck a little.
You sigh, grabbing your earbuds from your desk, knowing you canât put the paperwork off any longer. Youâre pretty sure Records is going to start sending you death threats soon.
Making your way through the pile is slow going. Itâs terrible. The only part of working with the BAU you hate is the paperwork. Itâs tedious and never-ending and it always gives you a headache.
The only times you get up are to use the bathroom and get more coffee. JJ kindly tells you that you should probably leave your mug in the break room after your sixth or so trip. Spencer, somehow, appears in the room, and rattles off the symptoms of caffeine overdose.
You leave the mug there.
You continue working well after everyone else leaves. It gets dark, people go home, office lights go off, and while the pile has largely decreased in size, itâs still not finished.
You have to finish. Hotch had made an offhand comment about turning in your paperwork on time and now you have to finish it. To show him youâre not lazy.
Youâve only got a little bit of paperwork left when a hand taps you on your shoulder.
You yank your earbuds out, blinking blearily. âWha?â
Spencerâs face swims into view. âCome on, time to go home.â
âWhat are you doing here?â
âMaking sure you didnât fall asleep and forget to go home. They do lock the doors at a certain point. Ask me how I know.â
Your brain is moving like sludge, and it takes you several minutes to process what he says. He continues standing in front of you, patiently waiting for you to respond.
âBut⊠the paperwork.â
âWill be here tomorrow. Come on, up we go.â
You whine as he takes your hands, hauling you to your feet. You attempt to scrub the sleep out of your eyes while messily moving papers about so your desk doesnât look like a copy machine threw up all over it.
He pushes your jacket into your hands and you shrug it on, grumbling all the way through the doors and out to the parking lot, Spencer in tow. He follows dutifully behind you, and everytime you look back at him to voice your complaints all he does is smile.
âItâs cold.â
âThat does tend to happen in winter.â
When you get to your car, he reaches out, tugging on your wrist.
âHey,â He says, looking down at you, eyes deep pools of some emotion you canât identify, âDrive safe, okay? Itâs icy.â
âMy commute isnât that bad. And Iâm,â You break off with a huge yawn. âNot even that tired.â
âThat doesnât inspire much confidence, smarty-pants.â
âOh, so weâre locked into the smarty-pants thing, huh?â
âYep.â He says, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets and popping the P.
âWell then what am I supposed to call you? Robot-Reid?â
âHow about Spencer?â
His words hang in the night air, mingling in the puffs of air from both of your mouths.
ââŠWhat rhymes with Spencer?â
âSensor, denser, dispenserââ
âDis-Spencer,â You say, smiling to yourself. âI like the sound of that one.â
âYou know dis comes fromââ
âThe latin word dis, and the prefix is used to denote a reversal of absence of an action, expressing negation, or expressing completeness or intensification of an unpleasant or unattractive action.â
He chuckles, smiling down at his shoes. âThatâs why youâre the smarty-pants.â
âOh please. You know all of that and then some.â
He shrugs. âMaybe, maybe not.â
You both stand in the cold of the parking lot, neither willing to leave yet.
Before you can think better of it, you dart forward, throwing your arms around Spencerâs neck and mumbling âGoodnight, Dis-Spencer.â
You step away quickly, awkwardly giving him a small wave before hurrying into your car and driving away.
Smooth.
â
The next case is⊠really rough.
Two spree killers, working as a team. A father and a son; the son was groomed into the lower position.
Not anything you havenât seen before. Trained for. Studied.
No amount of studying could have prepared you for the cold grip of dread that gripped your throat like a vice when you finally confronted the unsubs, and heard eerily familiar words uttered from the father:
âYouâre a good for nothing son! I wouldnât have had to do this if you werenât such a disappointment of a child! Why couldnât you have just been more like your siblings?â
The son was killed before anyone could intervene.
Wrapping up the case left you shakenâ youâd watched with hollow eyes as the boyâs body was zipped in a body bag.
A hand landing roughly on your shoulder shoves awareness back into your body and you flinch, hard, whirling around with your shoulders raised to meet the oncoming threat.
Only itâs not a threat. Itâs Hotch. And he looks concerned.
You force your body to relax. âIâm sorry, Iâll go help question the rest of the familyââ
âAre you okay?â
You blink. âWhat?â
âAre you alright?â He asks again.
âYeah, Iâm, Iâm okay. It just⊠reminded me of something.â
Hotch purses his lips but doesnât say anything. He looks heâs going to say something, but then decides against it.
âHelp Reid get the last of the evidence. Once you two are finished head back to the station. Weâll meet you there.â
You nod, inwardly relieved about not having to deal with the family members. You might start actually crying.
You sidle up to Spencer whoâs tagging blood splatters on the carpet. He wordlessly hands you a pair of gloves. He doesnât ask. You donât tell.
You work side by side for the better part of two hours, occasionally conversing with the local police or helping the crime scene investigators tag evidence.
If he knows whatâs bothering you, he doesnât say. You wouldnât have an answer anyway. Youâre far too gone in your own head.
You follow Spencer to the break room back at the station, watching him quietly make two mugs of tea. He presses one into your hands with a gentle command to let it cool for a few minutes. The mug is warm in your hands. Spencer is standing next to you, a mug of his own in his hands. Your parents arenât here. Youâre fine.
You chant this mantra in your head while you wait for the rest of the team to come back.
Your parents arenât here. Youâre fine.
Spencer doesnât ask before sitting next to you on the jet. He just does. He hands you a book, then opens his own.
You donât read a single page. He must know. Still, he says nothing, just presses a little closer to you when he sees your hands shaking.
The team gives the two of you space when you finally land. You stumble off the jet, trip backpack slung over your shoulder, legs wobbly and breath uneven.
Youâre not sure why the case upset you this much. Your parents donât upset you this much. They justâ they make the same kind of comments, and so did that father, except now his son is dead because he killed himâ
âHey,â Hotch approaches you slowly, makes sure you can see him. You hate that he feels the need to do so. âTake tomorrow off. Stay home. Recuperate.â
âIâm fiââ
âWe all have tough missions and I would do the same for any agent,â He says, clasping you gently on the shoulder. âBesides. We both know you havenât been sleeping well.â
Your lips twitch. âIsnât there a rule against profiling each other?â
âThat rule is for all of you. Not me.â
He gives your shoulder one last squeeze before departing.
You manage to haul yourself into HQ and out to the parking lot, cursing as your cold fingers fumble with your keys. Frustrated tears begin to well in your eyes and you press the heels of your hands to your face, sucking in a shuddering breath and begging it all to just stop.
Someone gently pries your hands open, pulling your keys out of your clenched grip. Your shoulders shake as you heave, gasping for cold night air that burns on the way down.
A hand finds its way to the back of your head, pressing it forward into something warm and solid. Another arm wraps around your waist, keeping you close, while the hand on your head drifts down to your neck, squeezing and rubbing intermittently.
âIâm sorry,â You cry, rubbing your face and smearing your tears across your hands, âI donât know why, it justââ
âYou donât need a reason,â Spencer says, spreading his hand out wide so it covers the entire nape of your neck, âSometimes it all just gets to you.â
You nod into his chest, lowering your hands from his face to wrap around his torso, clutching it like a lifeline.
âI donât want to go home tonight,â You whisper, ashamed. âIâll dream of it. And them. And itâll be cold and aloneââ
âCome home with me,â He says, voice a little breathless while he holds you closer, âCome home with me.â
He says the last part a little desperate.
You sniff. âOkay.â
You hesitantly pull away from the hug, but not before Spencerâs hand moves from your neck to your face, his thumb brushing away the tear tracks on your face. He drops his head down, and you feel the gentlest brush of lips against the skin in between your eyebrows.
âLetâs go home.â
He tugs you along by the hand, helping you into his little old car, tucking your bags into the backseat. He lets the radio play softly while he drives, loud enough to quiet your thoughts a bit but not so loud as to overwhelm you.
He helps you out of the car when you arrive to the apartment building, carrying one of your bags up the stairs- youâd insisted on carrying the rest of your stuff.
He unlocks the apartment door, ushering you into the warmth and comfort that is Spencerâs home.
Itâs exactly like you pictured, if not tidier. A bit more modern than youâd imagined. Books are everywhere of course, but so are knick-knacks and trinkets and other little bits of things that are so decidedly Spencer. Thereâs even a quilt on the couch.
He sets your bag down by the door. âThe shower is down that hall to the left. Use whatever products you need to. Do you have any clothes to change into?â
You chew on the inside of your lip. âIn my luggage, yeah, but they need to be washed.â
âI can put them in the wash while you shower. In the meantime, you can borrow something of mine.â
You shuffle in place. âI donât wanna imposeââ
âPlease let me do this for you.â
The raw, rough edge to his tone makes you pause. You nod in acquiescence.
He takes your hand in his again, tugging you into his bedroom. With one hand, he opens drawers, handing you his smallest pair of sweatpants, and a large, worn, and incredibly soft Caltech sweatshirt.
âIâll have to cuff these,â You mumble when he hands you the sweatpants, âMy legs are half the length of yours.â
âYouâll make it work, Iâm sure. Now shoo. Iâll have laundry and food finished when you get out of the shower.â
The bathroom, like the rest of the house, is clean and neat, and to your relief, houses more than just a five-in-one in the shower. Spencer actually owns multiple products for you to choose from and it hits you while youâre lathering the body wash you chose because of how good it smelled that youâre in Spencerâs shower, showering with his body wash, about to put on his clothes.
Youâre going to smell like him. His clothes will smell like him. Everywhere in the apartment smells like him.
You decide to blame the near permanent flush on your cheeks on the heat from the shower.
When you exit the shower, fresh and drowning in Spencerâs clothes, heâs standing at his kitchen island, putting the final touches on two bowls of soup.
You almost tear up again. âYou made me soup?â
âItâs widely regarded as a comfort food for people who are ill or otherwise sad, and is most commonly made in the wintertime.â
He gives you a little jazz hand, gesturing to the soup as if saying ta-da!
You really do tear up then.
Heâs in front of you in an instant, hands poised to help. âHey, hey, whatâs wrong? Do you not like soup? I can make something else, or we can order in, orââ
You scrub at your face with the sleeve of his sweatshirt. âYouâre just, youâre just really sweet.â
His face softens. âOh, honey.â
He envelops you in the second hug of the night, except this time youâre crying in earnest now. Your crying about your parents, about the nights you went to bed hungry because your Dad told that you were smart, and to figure something out, but you were too young to work any of the kitchen appliances. Youâre crying about your first best friend, who ditched you the second your brother asked her out. Youâre crying about all the classes and friendships you missed out on while you were in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Youâre crying about how your parents didnât visit you once. Not even when you were in the ICU.
Spencer holds you through it all, a steady rock against the battering waves crashing in your head.
After a few minutes, you wear yourself out, quieting down to sniffling, your shoulders hitching.
He pulls back, studying your face. âAre you ready to eat some soup now?â
You nod, blinking the final tears out of your eyes. âI got snot on your shirt.â
âThatâs why we invented washing machines.â
He keeps up a stream of idle chatter while you eat, explaining all the different major soups in the world and where they came from. Itâs a balm against your weary mind, lulls you into peace and safety.
Or maybe thatâs just the effect Spencer has on you.
When you finish your food, he takes your bowl, deposits it in the sink, and then takes your hand and leads you to his bedroom.
âI donât have a guest room, so you can take the bed,â He says, voice soft. âThereâs extra blankets in the closet next to the bathroom if you get cold.â
He turns to leave, but a stab of panic slices down your chest, and your hand is reaching out and grabbing his wrist before you can stop yourself.
He pauses, turning back around. âYou want me to stay?â
You take your lip between your teeth. âI donât want to be alone.â
He studies you in the dark of the roomâ clad in his clothes, face puffy from crying.
The muscles in his jaw work.
âI canât do this platonically. If we do thisââ
You surge up on your toes, grabbing his face and smashing your lips together so quickly your teeth clack.
He goes rigid, then kisses your right back, hands coming up to cup your face, squeeze your neck, smooth over your shoulders.
You pull away first, looking at him through your lashes with hazy eyes. âI canât do this platonically either.â
He traces the planes of your face with his thumb. âYou have no idea how long and how much Iâve wanted to have you right here, just like this.â
âCrying and sad?â
âDressed in my clothes, in my apartment, in my bed.â
You pause. âYou know, tonight, I canât, Iâm not going to haveââ
âIâm not interested in sex with you tonight,â He says, reading your mind, âI just want to get that empty look in your eyes gone.â
âJust?â
âWell,â He says, tugging you down onto the bed with him, crawling under the covers and covering you both, âThere are other things. A lot of other things, Like this,â
He presses a kiss to your forehead.
âAnd this,â
He pulls you flush against him under the covers, tucking your head under his chin.
âBut mostly this.â
He presses one last kiss to the crown of your head.
âReally?â
âReally.â
Itâs quiet for a moment before his voice breaks the silence.
âAfter I got out, all I wanted was something soft and gentle. Having something, someone soft and lovely to hold was all I looked forward to. And then I came back and I met you, with your polite introductions and the way you care so deeply about so much and I knew. I knew who I wanted to hold.â
âWow,â You breathe, âYours sounds so poetic. Mine is much less so.â
âMmm,â He hums, âAnd what might that be?â
You press your face against his chest and mumble so quietly youâre wondering if he can ever hear you:
âI just wanted you to choose me. I wanted to be someoneâs first choice.â
Heâs so quiet after that you think he must not have heard you.
Youâre on the verge of sleep when you hear his whisper:
âThere couldnât be anyone else for me.â

I mean?
Synopsis: On a press tour with your co-star Sebastian Stan, the interviewer asks you a question about another film he did and the answer surprises him.
Pairing: Sebastian Stan x Actress!Y/N
Word Count: IDK I'm too sleep deprived to count.
A/N: Bro I am on a resurgence. Might just fuck around and continue writing more fanfics or whatever.
Itâs another busy day promoting your new movie with Sebastian, The Road Trip. It's a funny romcom about two best friends going on a long trip to see another friend who your character is dating. Interestingly enough, the guy who plays him is Chris Evans. The interviews are currently being done in pairs, and you're with Sebastian.
You've always been candid, speaking your mind without feeling shy. Deep down, you're a bit of a pessimist, accepting things as they are. When you first heard from your agent that you were cast in The Road Trip alongside Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans, you laughed hysterically. The idea that you, an unconventional beauty, were chosen to be on screen with those two seemed surreal. You never really think about dating co-stars, which helps with acting in general. The media is impressed with how chill you are around A-list actors, and even though it hasnât fully sunk in yet, the industry has started promoting you to that list.
The interview has been going on for about 15 minutes when another journalist joins, mostly asking about the experience of working with the cast.
âItâs my first romcom, can you believe it?â you say.
âFirst?!â Sebastian stares in mock disbelief.
âI know, right?!â You feign surprise.
The interviewer continues, âHow does it feel to do something lighter and a bit comedic for once?â
âYou mean, a movie where no one dies?â Sebastian covers his mouth at your response.
âI mean essentially,â the interviewer laughs. âWait, no one dies?!â They nudge you playfully.
âI mean, Iâm not sure, no spoilers,â you say, breaking the fourth wall and looking into the camera. Sebastian cackles. âItâs definitely refreshing. It feels like going to school for some reason. Like I donât want to miss a class just because I might miss something wild happening.â
âWhat?â Sebastian glares. âWhat school did you go to?â
âI mean, aside from the learning stuffâŠâ You grimace. âItâs fun, honestly. Iâd love to do more romcoms. Itâs very down-to-earth and just resonates with you so much. I donât wanna get too cheesy, but Iâm such a hopeless romanticâthis is my jam.â
âSebastian, howâs your experience working with Chris again, this time outside of the Marvel universe?â
âWait, this isnât in the Marvel Universe?!â you butt in. Sebastian again, fakes a loud gasp. You two laugh. This interview feels like itâs going nowhere.
âItâs totally fun, as Y/N mentionedâit really is like going to class. But most of my scenes are with Y/N, so sheâs like the lab partner Iâve never had. Chris was always texting us, checking which location weâre going to be at, making sure weâre scheduled on the same day. Itâs fun when weâre both on set.â
You nod in agreement. âYeah, weâve got a good rhythm going. Itâs like having a little family on set. Plus, Chris is always the one who brings snacks, so thatâs a bonus.â
Sebastian laughs. âOh, absolutely. Chris and his endless supply of trail mix.â
The interviewer chuckles. âSounds like you all have a great dynamic. Was there a favorite scene you both enjoyed filming together?â
You think for a moment. âI really loved the scene where weâre stuck in the car during that rainstorm. It was so chaotic, but we had a blast improvising and just playing off each other.â
Sebastian nods. âYeah, that was a good one. The rain machine was going full blast, and we were just trying not to crack up the entire time.â
The interviewer smiles. âIt sounds like it was a lot of fun. And the chemistry definitely shows on screen. Speaking of different roles, Y/N, Sebastianâs been in the movie Fresh where he plays a sociopathic killer who preys on lonely women pretending to be a genuine guy.â
âI donât like where this is going,â you say, laughing, as Sebastian shakes his head.
âWould you, like Noa, fall prey to Steveâs antics?â This question gets a louder laugh from Sebastian as your face shows pure shock. You hold him back with your hand and say,
âIâve thought about this, to be honest,â you start, looking at Sebastian as he raises his eyebrows, impressed.
âOh, you have?â
You laugh and continue, patting his thigh and looking back at the interviewer. âMe and my friend talked about it a while back. And itâs frightening because I wouldâve probably ended up on a chopping block.â
âNoooo!â Sebastian shouts, âI was rooting for you.â
âNo! But, like, you are incredibly good-looking and charismatic. It would be hard not to give my number at the grocery aisle.â
He tilts his head at your response. âSurely not good enough to get yourself killed?!â
âYouâd be surprised how far Iâd even go,â you say, as the interviewer laughs with you both. âOh god, I need to call my therapist,â you add, ending the topic with the three of you gagging.
âMight just have to talk to mine too, after hearing that.â
You can already feel TikTok saving this clip and turning it into a meme.
You notice, after you call Sebastian good-looking, heâs been eyeing you sideways and biting his lip. As if heâs suddenly gone bashful. You canât help but feel a boost in your ego. Could it be that Stan is shy? You make it a point to tease him for the remainder of the interview.
âWhatâs something funny or unexpected that happened on set?â
âOh, there were so many moments,â you start. âOne time, we were filming this really serious scene, and out of nowhere, a bird flew into the set and landed right on Sebastianâs shoulder.â
Sebastian laughs. âYeah, I had no idea what to do. I just froze, and then Y/N started making bird noises to try and get it to fly away.â
You laugh, nodding. âIt took a good ten minutes to get back into character after that. Everyone was cracking up.â
The interviewer grins. âThat sounds hilarious. Itâs great to hear that you all had such a good time. Speaking of moments on set, were there any funny or awkward moments while filming the more romantic or intimate scenes?â
Sebastian raises an eyebrow, smirking. âOh, plenty. Like the time we were shooting that kiss scene in the rain, and Y/N kept slipping on the wet pavement.â
You roll your eyes playfully. âHey, it was slippery! You were the one who canât stop laughing during takes.â
Sebastian laughs. âTrue, true. But come on, we both know it was because you were so nervous about kissing me.â You notice him biting back.
You gasp in mock offense. âExcuse me, I was not nervous! I was just...distracted by how ridiculously good-looking you are. Itâs hard to concentrate when you have that face right in front of you.â He smiles uncontrollably again, feeling defeated by your nonchalance. He wonders, how are you so good at this?
The interviewer laughs, clearly enjoying the banter. âSo, who do you think had the hardest time keeping a straight face during those scenes?â
You both point at each other simultaneously, then laugh.
Sebastian leans back, shaking his head. âDefinitely Y/N. There was this one scene where we were supposed to be having this deep, romantic conversation, and she just couldnât stop giggling.â
You nudge him playfully. âWell, you werenât helping with all your ad-libs! You kept whispering things like, âIs that your stomach growling or are you just happy to see me?ââ
Sebastian laughs. âHey, I was trying to lighten the mood! And letâs not forget the scene where we had to stare into each otherâs eyes for what felt like an eternity. I swear, Y/N, you blink more than anyone I know.â
You smirk. âOnly because I was trying to avoid getting lost in those baby blues of yours.â At this point, Sebastian was laughing hard, but feeling nervous at your jokes. He secretly wished it were all real, his ears were red and hot. Heâs already thinking of how to approach you after the interview and get himself out of the friend zone which he didnât even thought heâd be in, having found a new interest in you.Â
The interviewer looks between the two of you, amused. âIt sounds like you both had a lot of fun with it. Do you think all that chemistry will translate to the screen?â
Sebastian nods. âOh, definitely. I think our off-screen dynamic really helped make the on-screen relationship feel more genuine. Plus, Y/N here is an amazing actress. She made it easy.â
You smile, feeling a bit bashful. âWell, Sebastianâs not too bad himself. Itâs hard not to enjoy working with someone whoâs so talented and, letâs be honest, ridiculously attractive.âÂ
Here she goes again .Sebastian grins. âRight back at you. But letâs be real, weâre both just incredibly good-looking people trying to make a movie here.â The internet is gonna have a field day.
The interviewer laughs. âSounds like a tough job! Any last funny or romantic moments youâd like to share?â
You think for a moment. âThere was this one scene where we had to dance together. Neither of us are professional dancers, so there were a lot of missteps and toe-stepping. But it ended up being one of the sweetest scenes because it felt so real and unpolished.â
Sebastian nods. âYeah, that was a great scene. It was supposed to be this perfectly choreographed dance, but it turned into us just goofing around and having fun. I think it really captured the essence of our characters' relationship.â
The interviewer smiles, clearly delighted by your stories. âWell, thank you both for sharing these wonderful moments. Itâs been a pleasure talking with you.â
As you and Sebastian leave the interview room, you head towards the lobby where a few other cast members are mingling. The energy is still high from the fun and laughter of the interview. Sebastian nudges you playfully as you walk.
âHey, remember in the interview when you called me incredibly good-looking and charismatic?â he teases, a mischievous glint in his eye.
You roll your eyes, grinning. âOh, come on. Donât let it go to your head, Stan.â
He chuckles. âToo late. Iâm pretty sure Iâm going to bring that up every chance I get now.â
âYou would,â you laugh, shaking your head. â Itâs not like I was lying.â
Sebastian stops walking, turning to face you. âWell, thank you. And for the record, youâre pretty incredible yourself. Both on screen and off.â
You feel a warm blush creeping up your cheeks, putting a palm to your chest as if to continue the gag. âThanks, Seb. That means a lot.â
He smiles, his eyes softening. âNo, really, itâs been really great working with you. I think we make a pretty good team.â
âI think so too,â you agree, feeling a flutter in your stomach, you realize heâs actually serious now. Thereâs a moment of silence as you both just look at each other, the playful teasing from earlier now replaced with something more tender.
Sebastian breaks the silence first. âSo, what do you say we celebrate wrapping up the promotion tour? Maybe dinner tonight?â
You raise an eyebrow, teasingly. âIs this your way of asking me out, Stan?â
He grins, a little sheepishly. âMaybe it is. What do you think?â
You pretend to think about it for a moment, then nod. âI think it sounds like a great idea.â
âPerfect,â he says, looking genuinely pleased. âIâll pick you up at eight?â
âEight it is."

Stuck
Billy has been Captain Marvel since the middle of April. Itâs the beginning of July. And thatâs not how long Billyâs been Marvel as a whole, no, heâs been a hero for nearly two years. Thatâs currently how long Billyâs been in his Marvel form.
This all happened because of a, quite frankly stupid mistake. It wasnât even a magical mistake, just an ignorant and naive one.
Billy: *walking past an alley and hears the sound of someone hurt*
His first mistake was even stopping because of that voice.
Billy: *hesitantly walks into the alley* âHello? Is someone hurt-â
Thief: *stabs him and pushes him over before realizing he just stabbed a little kid* âHoly shit! A kid!?â *sounds horrified*
The thief then fled the scene, not even bothering to try and actually steal when he realized what he had just done. When Billy finally broke away from the fuzziness of his mind and came to it, he was laying face up on the ground and feeling a sharp pain blossom from his side. His hand moved and he could feel some blood seep past his fingers. Uh oh.
So, on the verge of death and partially delirious from the worsening blood loss, he said his magic word and was lightninged into Captain Marvel. Even as the Captain, he continued laying on the ground. The reason being that he was replaying what happened in his mind and trying to ignore the leftover blood that had been left on the alley floor. It was definitely seeping into his cape, yet he couldnât find it in himself to get up. Why he was too busy thinking about how absolutely fucked he was over the all the concerned yelling from the DTC.
Marvel: âOh my Gods. Iâm going die.â
Mercury: âBILLY, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU EVER GO IN A CREEPY ALLEY???â
Solomon: âHe thought someone was in trouble, Mercury. Calm down.â *actually sounds the slightest bit panicked*
Zeus: âCalm down?! Solomon, the boy got STABBED!â
Hercules: âSolomon, what do we do? Is the Batson boy going to die?â
Solomon: âNo. Not if he stays in his godly form at least.â
Achilles: âYou hear that, Batson? Donât you dare utter that word until we find a way to fix this!â *if Billy could see him, he would be wagging his finger*
So yeah. Thats why heâs been Marvel for a little over month and a half. See, it turns out that he canât really do anything. His body was in stasis, completely frozen in time. That meant the wound wouldnât heal or disappear like he prayed it would. No, it would just be there until he maybe switches back and dies from blood loss, which is something heâd rather not do. You can see his dilemma.
So what did he do to combat the impending feeling of dread that heâll never get to be Billy again? He threw himself into hero work because to be quite frank, he needed a distraction. And thatâs how you could see Captain Marvel in fucking Oregon, then South Dakota, and then Alabama helping whoever. He literally expanded his patrol to cover the entire country aside from cities that were already protected by heroes. After about two of doing this, of course, this caught the attention of others, but the last person he expected was Amanda Waller. She came to him alone after he stopped a car crash in Washington.
Amanda: âCaptain Marvel.â
Marvel: *looks over* âArenât you Ms. Waller? Is there a problem, maâam?â
Amanda: âYes. Youâve been seen going around the entire country. I thought you supers only stuck to your cities.â
Marvel: âI⊠Well, most of us do. I just have a lot of free time on my hands lately. Do you need me to back off?â *really doesnât want her to want him to back off because running around the country has actually been a really good distraction*
Amanda: âNo. Not for now. Tell me, what do you mean by free time?â
Marvel: âUhâŠâ *confused as to why she cares* âI guess you could say I switched to heroing full time.â
Amanda: âInteresting.â *stares at him intensely*
Marvel: *starts to get nervous cause her stare reminds him of Batman a little* âYâknow, Miss Waller, Supes tells me your bad news all the time. Something about you hating us?â
Amanda: âHeâs right. I donât respect your kind and the slightest.â
Marvel: âMy kind?â
Amanda: âSuperheroes. Youâre a threat to national security but you can also be useful if youâre on the governmentâs side.â
Marvel: Is this you proposing that I join up with you guys again?
Amanda: âUnfortunately, yes. Before the 60s, superheroes used to practically work for the government. So, I have a proposal for you.â
She wanted him to do some contractual jobs for the government. Which was no biggie. He remembers doing a few with the other Fawcett heroes and even some with the JSA.
Marvel: âDo you think we can trust her, Solomon?â
Solomon: âJust barely. I donât believe sheâll stab you in the back, not yet anyways. I assume youâll be working with that so called âSuicide Squadâ so sheâll likely want someone to keep them in line. That and aside from the shark man, they probably want another heavy hitter.â
And with that, Marvel shrugged and said âsure, why not?â It was more work for him to busy himself with anyways. Now, he wonât admit it to any of coworkers, but those Suicide Squad guys are actually pretty fun if you ignore that half of them are psychopaths and murderers. Captain Boomerang especially. The man was really funny when he cursed out people. There was also Harley Quinn, or Harley as she asked him to call her, who was also pretty funny too. Also, there was a lot of killing that occurred on these missions. Like, a lot.
Harley: âGeez, Cheese! I didnât think Iâd ever see a super so blood lusted before!â
Marvel: âAh⊠my bad. Itâs been a long while since Iâve been allowed to do something like this without having to worry about Mr. Batman Sir kicking me out the league for it.â
Captain Boomerang: âHuhâŠ? Mate, are you saying youâve killed people before?â
Marvel: âYes?â *honestly surprised they didnât know* âBack in the olden days when your parents were maybe kids, heroes were allowed to kill. That included me. Though I only stuck to murderers and rapists and all the junk. *wipes a bloody hand on Deadshotâs back*
Deadshot: âWha- donât wipe your fucking hand on me!â
Marvel: *stares for like three seconds before wiping his hand on him again*
Deadshot: *takes out his gun as if thatâll do anything* âI just said stop that.â
Though, his contracts for the missions ended after about a month and he said bye to them about a month later.
After his relatively short time with them, he went back to basically patrolling the country again. Which, although it wasnât mentioned before, made his popularity as a sensational hero increase because this man wasnât just protecting his city, he was protecting his country.
Now, left to his own devices once again, Billy let his mind wander as he was rescuing people from a burning building in California.
He thought about Fawcett. About his job at Whiz. Gosh, he was probably- no, definitely fired due to the month and a half of absence. (He wasnât. Mr. Morris and the staff were all worried sick about what happened to him.) There was also Freddy. Heâd only see the boy every now and then when he looked down to the crowds in the city. He wondered if he was upset. Heâd hoped not. At this moment, Billy really really wished he had told Freddy about him being Captain Marvel. That way he wouldnât feel so alone.
Oh, but you canât forget the Justice League. Donât think any of this behavior has gone unnoticed. They have been thinking about ways to bring this up to Marvel for a while. The team finally hit its breaking point when Batman shared that Marvel had been seen talking with Amanda Waller, and working with the Suicide Squad. How they found out? On one of the missions, the Squad had gotten caught and taken into a secret organizationâs base. (They werenât actually. They were mostly pretending so they could just get inside.) This was an organization Batman had been monitoring for a while. As a result, the man had obviously hacked the system and made sure to get updates on anything new. Imagine his surprise when he sees the pictures of each Squad member, including Marvel, all rocking the organizationâs prison uniforms. So yeah, not Billyâs best moment for Bruce to catch him in.
Supes: âI just donât understand! Why would you work with them?! Theyâre villains!â
Marvel: âIâm sorry! I just needed something to do. Theyâre really not that bad once you get to know them.â
Supes: âNot that- NOT THAT BAD?!â
Marvel got yelled at for like 20 minutes and only after making numerous promises about, never working with them again, did they finally let up.
Another month later, and that brings us to the present. Itâs still the beginning of July. Billy didnât know how much longer he could take this. He was growing restless because he might have to be Marvel forever. His villains were growing restless due to the fact that he kept leaving Fawcett and was barely around anymore. And unbeknownst to him, Freddy and Mr. Morris were already restless looking everywhere for him.
Thankfully, the Wizard finally came up with a solution that might actually work. It involved the Rock and a whole bunch of complicated magic. Billy wasnât willing to explain. Anyways, the first thing Billy did when he finally was allowed to be Billy again, was go find Freddy.
Freddy: *walking down the sidewalk, keeping an ear and an eye out for any news of Billy*
Billy: *looking around for Freddy and spots him from behind* âFreddyâŠ?â
Freddy: *pauses and whips around* âBilly!?â
Billy and Freddy: *stare at each other for a bit*
Billy didnât even get to register what was going on before Freddy rushed over as fast as he could. The other boy dropped his crutch in favor of crumpling against his friend in a tight hug. They ended up sobbing together on a bench after that.

pairing: rafe x pogue!reader (bartender!reader universe) warnings: unwanted advances; there's a creep.
It was just another Friday night, the usual crowd of kooks indulging in their weekly rituals of wealth and excess. For you, it was just another night behind the bar.
Wiping down the counter, you glanced at the clock. Nearly midnight.
Your shift was crawling toward the finish line, thank god, but the crowd promised at least another hour of pouring drinks and faking smiles. Not that you minded by this point â the tips were decent, and the job wasnât hard. But sometimes, the clientele was more than you could handle.
âAnother round for me, sweetheart?â
You turned toward the voice and visibly shuddered at the sight. There he was again â the guy who had been hitting on you all night, like a stupid plague. He was in his mid-forties, with thinning hair and a sleazy smile. Heâd been getting progressively drunker, his advances getting bolder with every drink. You didnât get paid enough to put up with this shit, but you also didnât feel like getting fired for slapping someone across the face.Â
You gave him a tight-lipped smile, trying to keep it professional. âSure. Another whiskey?â
He leaned closer, his breath reeking of alcohol. âYâknow youâve got the prettiest eyes. Why donât you come sit with me for a bit? Iâm sure the bar can survive without you.â
Internally, you cringed. Outwardly, you kept your smile, though it was starting to drop. âIâm working,â You replied, âI canât.â
He grinned like he hadnât heard you â or maybe he just didnât care. âCâmon, you can take a break. Iâll make it worth your while.â
Youâd rather shoot yourself in the face. You turned away, busying yourself with grabbing his drink. You didnât want to make a scene. You could handle this. Youâd dealt with drunk idiots your entire life.
But something about him was different â he wasnât just annoying, he was persistent, and you didnât like the way he was looking at you.
Rafe had checked in on you earlier, but you hadnât seen him for a while. Normally, you could handle yourself, but tonight you really wished he was closer.
The guyâs drink slammed down in front of him harder than you intended, and you forced another smile. âHere you go.â
âThanks, sweetheart,â he drawled, eyes dragging down your body in a way that made your skin crawl. âYouâre too pretty to be stuck behind a bar. Bet you could find someone to take care of you, huh?â
You barely held back an eye roll as you turned away from him, grabbing the rag to wipe down the counter again just to have something to do with your hands.Â
The guy cleared his throat, leaning even closer over the bar. âHow much longer do you think youâll be working, sweetheart?â His voice was low, like he was trying to make it intimate, but it just made your stomach turn. âIâll wait for you. We could have a little fun after youâre off. I know youâre not gonna go home alone tonight, right?â
âYeah, I am,â you muttered under your breath, hoping he didnât hear.
But he did.
âAw, come on now, donât be like that,â he said, his grin widening like you were joking with him. âI know girls like you â all tough on the outside, but once someone gives you a little attention, you melt.â
You slammed the rag down, turning toward him, patience leaving your body. âLook, Iâve told you, Iâm working. And even if I wasnât, Iâm not interested. So how about you just take your drink and leave me alone?â
His smile dropped for a moment, his eyes narrowing in irritation. âYou donât gotta be a bitch about it, sweetheart,â he slurred, clearly not backing down. âIâm just trying to be nice.â
Before you could answer â or reach for the nearest object to throw at him â a familiar voice cut in from behind.
âHow about you fuck off before I make you?â
You knew that tone. It was the one he used right before things escalated. Fast. You looked over to see Rafe standing just behind the bar, his jaw clenched and his eyes locked onto the guy in front of you.
His posture was tense, fists curled at his sides like he was holding himself back from jumping at the guy. âRafe,â you called softly, reaching out to grab his arm. âItâs fine, Iâve got it.â
But he didnât take his eyes off the man. âNo, you donât,â he muttered, stepping closer to the bar, âThis guyâs been harassing you all night. He needs to leave.â
He looked Rafe up and down, taking in the expensive clothes, the look in his eyes, and the way his muscles tensed beneath his shirt.
âHey, man,â the guy said, holding up his hands in a show of surrender. âNo need to get all worked up. I was just talking to her.â
âYou werenât just talking,â Rafe snapped, âYou were being a creep, and now youâre gonna get the fuck out of here.â
The guy opened his mouth to argue, but Rafe took another step forward, and whatever argument he had died in his throat. He grabbed his drink from the bar, muttering something under his breath that you couldnât quite catch before he turned and stumbled away toward the door.
Once he was gone, you let out a breath you hadnât realized youâd been holding.
Rafe turned to you, his expression softening immediately. âYou okay, baby?â
You nodded, but your hands were shaking slightly. âYeah. Iâm fine. Thanks for stepping in.â
He stepped closer, âYou shouldnât have to deal with assholes like that.â
âI can handle it,â you replied, âBut Iâm glad you were here.â
Rafeâs brow furrowed slightly, his thumb tracing soft circles against the skin in your arm. âI donât want you handling it. I donât want you dealing with that shit at all.â
You smiled faintly, leaning into his touch. âItâs part of the job sometimes.â
âNot when Iâm around, itâs not,â he said firmly, his eyes locking onto yours.Â
You grinned, your fingers brushing over his collarbone as you tilted your head up to kiss him. His lips were soft against yours and when you pulled back, his forehead rested against yours.
âIâll be fine for the rest of the night,â you whispered. âPromise.â
He exhaled softly, his arms tightening around you just a little. âI know. I just hate seeing shit like that happen to you.â
âMe too, baby.â you admitted, your fingers tracing patterns on his chest. âBut at least the tips are good, right?â
He chuckled, shaking his head. âOnly you would focus on the tips after that.â
âGotta find the silver lining somewhere,â you teased.
Rafe chuckled, leaning down to kiss you again. This time it was deeper, and for a moment, you almost forgot you were still at work. When he pulled away, he glanced back toward the bar. âYou need me to stick around?â
You shook your head. âNah, I think your little display of alpha male behavior probably scared off any other creeps for the night.â
He smirked, looking a little too pleased with himself. âGood.â
âGo hang out with the guys,â you said, patting his chest. âIâll see you when Iâm done.â
He hesitated for a second, his hand still resting on your waist like he wasnât ready to let go, but finally, he nodded. âAlright. But if I see him againâŠâ
âYou wonât,â you assured him. âAnd if you do, Iâll let you know.â
He gave you one last kiss, then reluctantly let you go and headed back toward his friends. You watched him for a moment, smiling to yourself before you turned back to the bar.
Forty minutes later, Rafe stood by the side of his truck, fingers drumming against the hood as he waited for you to finish up. He hated this place most days â hated how these old, rich assholes thought they could treat you like you were some kind of prize they could buy. It had taken everything in him not to knock that guy out earlier, but he knew you didnât want a scene. Still, heâd been fuming ever since.
Youâd be out any minute now, and the two of you would go to his house. He just needed to chill. But then, five minutes passed⊠then six⊠and a knot started to form in his stomach. You were never this late getting out, and youâd told him youâd be quick tonight.
Where the were you? He checked his phone again. Nothing.
Rafe pushed off the truck and started pacing, his eyes glancing between the front entrance and the locker room doors around the back. He knew you were still inside, but something wasnât sitting right with him. His instincts were screaming at him now. After another minute, he couldnât take it anymore. Fuck this.
He strode back inside and headed straight for the back hall that led to the locker room where you always changed after work. As he turned the corner, his heart stopped. There, right outside the locker room door, was the same asshole from earlier â the drunk creep whoâd been hitting on you. His greasy hand was on the door, shoving it open, trying to force his way inside.
Rafe saw red.
Without thinking, he surged forward, grabbing the guy by the collar and slamming him back against the wall so hard the drywall cracked. âWhat the fuck do you think youâre doing?â
The guy didnât have time to react before Rafeâs fist connected with his jaw, his head snapping back against the wall. He stumbled, eyes wide with shock as he tried to raise his hands in defense, but Rafe didnât give him a chance.
âYou thought you could get away with that shit?!â He growled as he shoved him again, pinning him hard against the wall. The guy let out a choked gasp, his face going pale as he tried to squirm out of Rafeâs grip.
âI-I wasnâtââ the guy sputtered, his words slurred from the blow.
Rafe didnât want to hear it. He threw another punch, this one harder than the first, his knuckles splitting against the guyâs cheekbone. All he could see was you â you, behind that door, completely unaware that this piece of shit had been about to force his way in.
âRafe!âÂ
He stopped his fist still clenched, inches from the guyâs face. He turned his head just enough to see you standing in the doorway, dressed in your usual jeans and a hoodie, eyes wide, like you couldnât believe what you were seeing.
âBaby,â you said stepping forward. âItâs okay. Heâs not worth it.â
But Rafe couldnât let it go â couldnât let the image of this creep forcing his way into the room where you were out of his head. The thought made him sick. It made him want to tear this him apart piece by piece.
âI should fucking kill you,â Rafe spat, his voice trembling  as he pressed the guy harder against the wall.
âPlease. Iâm okay. He didnât get in.â
It took every little ounce of self-control Rafe had, but he finally let the guy go, stepping back just enough for the asshole to crumple to the floor, groaning in pain.
âYou come near her again, I swear to godâŠâ He didnât finish the sentence. He didnât need to. The guy knew exactly what he meant.
The creep scrambled to his feet, clutching his bleeding face as he stumbled down the hallway, mumbling something that Rafe didnât bother to listen to. His eyes were on you now, his breathing heavy as the adrenaline started to wear off.
His hands were still shaking, âAre you sure youâre okay?â
You nodded, though your eyes were still wide, âIâm fine. He didnât get in, baby. You stopped him.â
Rafe exhaled, running a hand through his hair as he tried to breathe properly. The thought of what couldâve happened if he hadnât come inside when he did made him want to throw up. âI shouldâve been here,â he muttered âI shouldâve been right here with you.â
âRafe, you canât be with me every second,â you stepped closer to him. âYou did the right thing. Iâm okay. Really.â
But he wasnât convinced. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his chest, needing to know for sure that you were safe. His grip was tight, maybe too tight, but he couldnât help it. âI swear to god, if heâd touched youâŠâ
âHe didnât,â you murmured, your hands rubbing soothing circles on his back, âHe's not going to."
He held you like that for a long moment, his heart still beating too fast, his mind conjuring everything that couldâve gone wrong tonight.
âNo more working late nights here.â
You pulled back slightly, raising an eyebrow. âRafeââ
âIâm serious,â he interrupted, âThis place is full of creeps, and Iâm not letting you deal with that shit anymore.â
You sighed, âWeâll talk about it.â
He didnât argue â not now, at least. But as far as he was concerned, you werenât coming back here. Not without him.
âWhat the hell is going on back here?â
You both turned to see Greg, your manager, striding down the hallway. He looked between you and Rafe, his eyes landing on the dented wall and the bloodied handprint smeared across it.
âSeriously, what the hell happened?â He barked, crossing his arms over his chest. âWhy is there a guy running out of here with blood on his face?"
Rafe stiffened beside you.
He didnât like Greg â never had. In his mind, he was lazy, incompetent, and more interested in playing golf with the country club regulars than actually managing anything. You opened your mouth to try to explain, but he beat you to it.
âWhy donât you fix your goddamn locks, Greg?â Rafe snapped, stepping forward, âIf you werenât so busy kissing everyoneâs ass, maybe youâd realize that your employees arenât fucking safe here.â
Greg blinked, âWhat are you talking about?â
Rafe pointed to the locker room door, where the knob was still hanging loosely, as if the creep had almost succeeded in breaking it off.
âYour fucking locker room door doesnât lock. That asshole was trying to force his way in while she was changing. What the hell are you running here, man?â
Greg glanced at the door, then back at you, his face paling slightly but instead of apologizing, or even showing the slightest bit of concern, he threw his hands up in a defensive gesture. âLook, I didnât knowââ
âYeah, because you donât pay attention to shit!â Rafe shot back, his voice rising. âYou think you can just let her and the other girls fend for themselves? Is this the kind of place youâre running?â
âRafe,â you murmured, your hand on his arm again, trying to calm him down. âItâs fine.â
But Rafe was far from calm. His hands were shaking, and his eyes locked onto Greg. âNo, itâs not fucking okay. This shit keeps happening, and itâs gonna get someone hurt.â
Greg took a step back, holding up his hands in surrender. âLook, Iâll⊠Iâll talk to the maintenance guys, alright? Weâll fix the lock.â
âNot good enough,â Rafe snapped, âYou better fix it tonight. Because if this happens again, Iâm not gonna be so nice next time.â
Greg swallowed hard, clearly shaken. âY-Yeah. Fine. Weâll take care of it.â
Rafe scoffed, shaking his head in disgust. âYou better.âÂ
He turned his back on Greg without another word, grabbing your hand again as he led you toward the exit. His grip was tight, and once you were outside, you let out a breath you didnât realize youâd been holding.Â
âRafe,â you said softly, pulling him to a stop as you stood by the side of his truck. âItâs over. Iâm okay.â
He exhaled sharply as he looked down at you. âI canât stand that guy,â he muttered. âHe doesnât give a shit about you or anyone else working here.â
He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you in tight, his chin resting on the top of your head. For a moment, he just held you like that, the tension slowly ebbing away. âYou shouldnât have to deal with this shit,â he murmured against your hair.
âI know. Letâs just go home.â
Rafe looked down at you, his brow furrowing slightly, âIâm gonna get you a gun.â
"A gun?"
"Yeah," Rafe said seriously, his grip tightening on your waist. âYou need to be able to protect yourself if I'm not around."
"Baby, that's... kind of extreme," you tried to make him understand, "I donât need a gun." You placed your hand on his chest, your thumb rubbing slow circles "I know you're worried. I know you donât want me dealing with stuff like this, but a gun isnât the answer."
He sighed, âI just want you to be safe.â
âI know,â you nodded. âAnd I will be. I promise.â
He held you close for a few more seconds, his forehead resting against yours. Then, with a reluctant sigh, he nodded. âOkay. No gun. For now.â
You smiled faintly, relieved. âThank you.â
âBut if it appens again, Iâll shoot him myself.â
âOkay, James Bond, get in the car.â

What are some JBLs you recommend that have good kisses AND a good romance plot
LOL I can hear the pain behind this question, anon. Itâs true that a lot of JBLs with a good romance story fail to deliver on the physical intimacy side of things, though that is becoming less and less the norm. I do have some that I think do both reasonably well. I donât know exactly what âgood romanceâ means to you, but Iâm going to assume weâre talking about well-executed romance plots, regardless of the showâs overall genre and focus, where the characters and relationship arc make sense and donât randomly derail somewhere along the way. Hereâs what I got:
I Cannot Reach You
This is a high school friends to lovers (the cream of the crop for that trope, IMO). This is a story about realizing feelings and building the courage to change your most important relationship, so youâll have to wait a bit to get those kisses but once you do, I think youâll be pleased.
His
The second chance romance for me. This is a bl film about two men who come back together after a bad breakup and figure out how to make it work. I love them and this story so much.
Old Fashion Cupcake
Thereâs only one kiss in this short and sweet show, but itâs a real doozy. A super tight workplace age gap romance that knows exactly what itâs doing.
At 25:00 in Akasaka
Two actors who went to college together meet again when they are cast opposite each other in a bl drama, and get tangled up in the blurred lines between their professional and personal relationships. Angst, baby!
The Pornographer
This series features some of the best kissing and sex scenes you will see anywhere in the bl genre, but warning that itâs a twisted and wild ride. There are five installments and you gotta watch them all to see the full picture of the character and romance arcs. Itâs so rewarding if you do.
The End of the World With You
From the same mind of the previous entry and similarly hot and wild and weird. This show has more going on than the second chance romance at its core, but it themes come together beautifully.
Tokyo In April IsâŠ
Another second chance romance, this one features a lot of sex but also deals with heavy subject matter, so mind the CWs. Itâs one of my favorites of last year and the love story in this one has really stuck with me; itâs beautiful and so hard won.
Love is Better the Second Time Around
This one comes with a disclaimer that it goes off the rails in the final two episodes, but you asked for good kissing so it would feel wrong not to include it. Yet another second chance romance (are you picking up on a theme here?), this one gets two former high school lovers back together as adults to sort out their misunderstandings, lingering feelings, and buckets of sexual tension. It was so goodâuntil it wasnât.

You don't need to feel it real + What SATs actually is
I'm going to link a reddit success story which I think explains SATs best and it's something I needed to remind myself as well. There's so much misinformation out there and people who say "oh you need to use all your 5 senses to do SATs correctly"
NO! The whole point is to detach from the 3D and focus on that 4D space and you can't do that if you're using your senses. Also, SATs is a state where you can barely even remember what your desire even is. Everytime I did SATs correctly, I couldn't remember my scene.
The reason it didn't manifest in the 3D is because I realized I was too tired and just gave up and went to sleep. But if you'e in the same boat then this post is gonna be really helpful for you. Please read all the way through properly.
So SATs is literally a state akin to sleep. Akin means similar to. So a state where you're basically asleep but also awake. You can move your body but you don't *want* to. You're too relaxed and tired. It's not a magical position or something where you can only do sats if you don't breathe for 3 hours or something. You're literally supposed to be super tired and the main key to manifesting through SATs is that your desire should be the last thought before you let go of waking consciousness. That's why it manifests because you re-direct your focus onto your desire which your subconscious then takes into command to reflect in your 3D.
This person in the success story did not even visualize. They just accepted it before they fell asleep. They didn't even loop the affirmation. Just before they knew they were super tired and going to bed, they affirmed once that they will receive good news regarding the health of their father. That's it. In a few hours, when they woke up, they got the news that their father will be fine. But the one thing that stands out to me is that people misinterpret what Neville initially said about SATs and this person understood it unintentionally.
Here's an excerpt from Neville's Q & A that somebody posted in the comments:
Question:Â I would think that if you get too much into the sleepy state there would be a lack of feeling.
Answer:Â When I speak of feeling I do not mean emotion, but acceptance of the fact that the desire is fulfilled. Feeling grateful, fulfilled, or thankful, it is easy to say, âThank You,â âIsnât it wonderful!â or âIt is finished.â When you get into the state of thankfulness, you can either awaken knowing it is done, or fall asleep in the feeling of the wish fulfilled.
So the key is not to force yourself to be happy or feel some emotion but to remind yourself that you have it. You have to ACCEPT that you have it. I asked Chatgpt how to accept something. Here's what bbgirl told me:
Recognize and Acknowledge
What to do: Acknowledge the reality of what you have, whether it's something physical, emotional, or situational.
For Positive Manifestations: Celebrate it and affirm, âThis is mine now.â
For Challenges or Conditions: Gently affirm, âThis is my current reality, and I accept it.â
Why it helps: Naming and recognizing something removes resistance and denial.
Practice Gratitude
What to do:
Be grateful for what you have. Say, âThank you for this. I am so glad itâs part of my life.â
Focus on the benefits or lessons it brings.
Why it helps: Gratitude shifts your focus from resistance to appreciation.
Let Go of Resistance
What to do:
Notice if youâre resisting emotionally or mentally.
Practice letting go of "what ifs" or "why nots" by focusing on the present.
Why it helps: Resistance keeps you stuck. Letting go allows for smoother integration.
MY TIPS:
Thank yourself. "Omg thank you me for being so amazing".
Affirm. Robotic affirming DOES WORK and it helps majorly with any other technique you use. Some people can just understand what the void is and apply but people who are suffering a lot can have doubts so do the robotic affirming. Do everything you believe in so your mind doesn't have the option to resist. Replace your thoughts with you desires by affirming. Listen to the right subs (I updated my playlist and will update it further) and just relax. You have to remind yourself that you have it already.
Let me know if y'all have questions!
Edit: I'm sorry I didn't even attach the link lol https://www.reddit.com/r/NevilleGoddard/comments/130mrwo/i_finally_did_sats_right_and_it_felt_completely/

ââ CRASHLANDIN' ON YA' ââ
a shooting star was your first impression of it.
the past week had been terrible; there were no bonfires on the beach this time because everyone was at the town center celebrating for whatever reason. you stumbled onto the beach sand and stayed on the ground coughing hysterically.
sand stuck to your wet body and hair. you were so tired you could barely keep your head up. what was this, the third time youâve been waterboarded? but hey, whoâs keeping count? this is the price that comes with being a good person. curiosity killed the cat, and it was going to get you killed one day.
youâve accepted itâ death, and if you were going to die, it might as well be for something cool like trying to take down the gang that has your home in a chokehold. whatâs so wrong with wanting to go out a hero?Â
then thatâs when you saw it. a bright white star rushing away in the sky.Â
the perfect time to make a wish! you folded your hands together and closed your eyes.
star⊠make my life worth more than this.
you opened your eyes and the star wasâŠcoming towards you?
your eyes widened, and you booked it off the sandy territory, losing balance every now and then. dunking and hiding behind the concrete wall that separated the beach from everything else, you covered your ears. the debris covered the portion of the beach, some even thrown over your head.
you kept your eyes closed for a long time before noticing the orange hue of the flames. getting up from your hiding spot and walking towards the destruction. there wasnât much fire so those would be easy to put out. the fire wasnât your concern though, it was what you would find. was someone there? are they alive?
coughing and waving your hand in front of your face to wave out the smoke, you finally found someone. they were crawling away from the rubble. you run over to them, but just as you get there their body has already gone limp. it was a female your age, the prettiest shade of blue youâve ever seen, with a purple streak.
you knelt down and scooped her up in your arms, the stranger in your arms was lightâ and you had the strength of the average woman.Â
overtime the locals got her settled down, and she became flosnumâs talk of the town. apparently, there were three other people in the blimp that crashed but didnât survive. not that the blue-haired mystery woman would know since she spent the majority of her time being nursed back to health and secluding herself from the rest of the world in her new complementary flosnum home. flosnum has had a huge population surge which meant a lot more houses and some left vacant.Â
as creepy as it sounds, you couldnât stop thinking about thinking about her. washing dishes? thinking of her. bartending? thinking of her blue hair. staying at that boring shop filled with gunk? thinking about what kind of person she is.Â
itâs safe to say she lived in your mind rent-free. you couldnât help it; she just seemed so cool! coming from the times youâve been able to catch a glimpse of her. she dressed so strangely, too. you wanted to ask her so many things. where was she from? is her hair naturally blue? is her favorite color blue? what does she like?
just what kind of person was she?
the first time you were able to formally meet her was two days ago.Â
TINKETTES: SCRAPS & PARTS
leon, the old man who owned this place, had died. rest in peace. he left behind a museum of metal scrapes, tools, wires, and a whole bunch of other stuff that you didnât understand. the only reason you were tending to it was because leon was the bar ownerâs brother and he said he would give you a raise if you did this one favor for him.Â
in the back area for employees only, you threw a ball at the wall and caught it. you did that a couple hundred times before you heard the windchimes sung. someone was here? nobody ever visited.
trying to get out of the chair too fast, you ended up falling on your side. you opened the door to find her, of all people.Â
you swear youâre not a creep, but just from her backview, she was gorgeous. you wondered what she looked like with long hair.Â
"need help with anything?â
it was a normal day at the âSEVEN CHIMESâ (aka the pub). mindlessly placing drinks down in front of customers, you barely registered your coworkerâs call for you. â[name]!â you turn around and run over to the counter.
âyeah?â
âbig don wants to see you after your shift.â stella states as she mixes a drink. a warning. a sharp chill went down your spine, maintaining a smile, you nod.
shit. what was it now? had you not already paid enough money for the month? or was it the incident with the pervert customer?Â
you spent the rest of your shift with a gaping pit in your stomach. serving drinks, rowdy customers, talks about the mysterious blue-haired girl.
walking into big donâs office felt like walking into a dark room: ensure of what you would be greeted with. âstella said you needed me?â the sickly pale man, but not thin, leaned back in his chair with a dice between his fingers. his other hand tapped the desk, staring directly at you. âdid i not give you a task?â
straighten your posture and answer âyou⊠you did! you told me to hurry up andââ
ââget rid of the shop.â he finishes your sentence. âyes. yes, i did say that, yet i have not seen any progress.â
âiâŠâ your throat felt dry. terribly dry. fidgeting with your hands you finally gain the courage to speak. âi did! i mean i am close to doing soâ a girl wanted the shop.â
he nods slowly, rubbing his chin. ââŠgoodâŠgoodâŠâ big don leans closer to his desk. âyou still have to pay for your recent accident, you are aware of that, correct?âÂ
âyes sir,â you respond nodding frantically.
letting out a small mocking huff his eyes finally turn away from him. âyouâre lucky, you did something good. iâm not as angry as i was before.â he waves his hand to shoo her away. âi will deal with you some other time.â
wasting no time you got out of the office.
you were going to kill him one day.
you didn't dwell on it too much. that wasnât your thingâ as a matter of fact, that was the only thing keeping her alive. it happens, and then it passes over, no need to dwell on it [name]. patting your head (which stella points out to be a nervous tick), you waited for the blue-haired beauty.
she was cute and all, but she seriously needed to hurry up and appear so she could give her the keys to this place. if she didnât, you would die (half joking). thinking about it⊠did you say that you would come to her or for her to come to you? you honestly couldnât remember.
letting out a groan, you put your hands on your face. if you keep looking at the same weirdly bent metal scrap, you are going to lose your shit.
great, now you had to get up.
was walking around flosnum begging people for the tiny pieces of information they had on bluey beauty odd? yes, next question.
if you had to walk another ten minutes in the scorching hot sun, you would melt. being on the verge of heat stroke, you place your hand over your forehead to block the sun and lose your balance a bit, walking backward. you felt your back hit someone.
âoopsie daisy!â the person said in surprise.
turning around to apologize, your eye widens, âbluey!â
she looked less⊠sad and more alive the last time you saw her. there was neon splatted all over her clothes, and a sparkle in her pink eyes twinkled. she then narrowed at the sight of you, âyouâŠâ she was holding a box inside her left arm and was licking an ice cream.
you grab onto her shoulders, âi was looking everywhere for you!â you felt like you could finally breathe without having to worry about dying the next day.
âyou were?â she tilts her head, confused about why someone would look for her.
you wrap an arm around her shoulder, she tries to move away from you. normally, you would care about being impolite, but you were on the verge of fainting. âsurprise surprise, you got the shop!â you jingle the keys in front of her face. âplease, move in as soon as possible.â you said smiling, she finally slips away from your grasp causing you to stumble a bit.
her full frame was now in your view. she was slim, toned core and arms, had an awesome tattoo, and was really paleâ too pale for a place like this; some woman would die to have that body.
âgonna give me those keys, or was your real plan just to check me out?â she continues to lick her ice cream. shaking your head, you toss the keys to her. she catches the keys âthanks for the candy, stranger. it really helped a girl out.â she says with her back turned walking away from you.
wait wait. no, thatâs not how itâs supposed to go. yeah, you were supposed to give her the keys, but you were hoping for a conversation longer than 30 seconds. okay maybe you were hoping way more than that⊠maybe being friends or something like that.
jogging up to her pace, you walk alongside her. âso!â you try to keep the conversation going. she furrowed her brows at you, either confused or annoyed by your attempt. âi was thinking since youâre new and everything that maybe youâd need a friend.âÂ
at first, she slowed down and she just stared. not at you. it was like she was lost in her mind. âa friend, huh?â her voice lowered, âsorry, toots, i donât do friends.âÂ
jinx didnât do friends.
she didnât need for them. the closest thing she had to a friend was sevika, and she wasnât even a friend she was more like⊠an annoying aunt.Â
they didnât last.Â
besides⊠who would want to deal with her? vi didnât, silco only made her condition worse, she always felt like a chore to sevika, and ekko⊠boy genius was too good for her. jinx wasn't who he wanted.
powder cleaned up the shop (by cleaning up, she put all the junk in the employee room). it felt nice to clean up; it was like her body was moving on auto-pilot just like it had been doing for the past two days. everything felt like an out-of-body experience after the numbness she felt the first month she had got here.
she grabbed a teddy bear out of the box and tied it up to the ceiling. for some reason, she kept the nagging thing around; powder kept sweeping up the place, âtidyingâ it up to her liking.
why do you keep pushing everyone away?
âshut up.â powder didnât have the patience for it.
why do you keep pushing everyone away?Â
her grip tightened around the broomstick. âwas me tying a noose around your neck not enough?â
why do you keep pushing everyone away? why do you keep pushing everyone away? why do you keep pushing everyone away? why do you keep pushing everyone away? why do you keep pushing everyone away?Â
because youâre a jinx.
jinx reached to her hip to grab her gun to shoot the annoying bear. of course, there was no gun to pull out from a holster. there was no reason to have one in a place like this. old habits die hard.
because everyone who gets close to you dies.Â
jinx.
dropping the broom, she turned on her heel and faced the teddy bear, âiâm not a jinx!â her shout seemed to snap her back to reality. it was quiet. so quiet that she was able to hear her own heavy breathing. ânot⊠not anymoreâŠâ her eyes were fixed on the bear.
âi left all of that behind.â her raspy voice cracked, arguing with it. âitâs safe here, no danger!â she took strides to the annoyance, âno reason for someone around me to die this time!â she ripped the bear off of the noose, its head coming off.
so why do you keep pushing everyone away?
even with its head rolled on the floor it still tried to get its point across.
if she was right. if she believed everything she just said, why did she keep pushing people away? thereâs no reason to be scared of losing someone; thereâs no danger here.
jinx dropped the bear and turned around to get back to cleaning up. she crouched down to pick up the broom but her red-violet eyes caught something. a sticky note.
ONLY COSTS FIVE!
with a turtle drawn as a signature. she dropped her broom and dashed out of the shop.
powder wasnât sure what the plan was, maybe there was no plan to begin with. she wanted to talk to youâ to change her answer. she did want to be friends. she needed to get it off her chest because what if she waits too long and you donât want to be friends anymore? what if you forget you even asked her? what if you didn't mean it?
she was on her way to find you at the bar (like you said for her to find you). on her way there she saw a bright light reflection of a bronze turtle necklace. she got cold feet.
odd.
very odd.
jinx never felt like this. why was telling someone you want to be friends so hard?
all of this leads to now, her stalking you, watching you from rooftops. it wasnât her initial intention! she just panicked. it was night; it was the perfect time for stalking anyway. jinx followed you. the paths you took were odd. just where were you heading?
an alleyway. alleyways in flosnum were nothing like zaun; they were dimly lit, painted murals with vines, and flowers blooming from the cracked cement, making it their home.
two men walk up to you. âyou know we donât want to do this.â one of them says sympathetically. you didnât seem surprised; it was like you were expecting them.Â
âkiss my ass.â you bit back then a palm connected with your right cheek.Â
oh.
this was not what powder was expecting.
a fight broke out. for a young woman, you sure were holding your ground against two muscled middle-aged men. you certainly werenât the most skilled person jinx had seen fight, but you made the most of what you could with your frame. jinx debated on whether she should help you out or not. you were obviously going to lose, as of now, you had it in the bag.Â
that was until one of them took hold of your hair behind you. the other man spit out the blood from his mouth onto the cement. âstop fighting back and just take the punishment.â he raised his fist and punched you in the stomach, knocking the wind out of you completely.
he winds up his fist again and you prepare yourself for the impact.Â
you then saw a streak of pink. it shimmered. there was no longer a man; there was a woman, strands of blue and purple peeking out of the hood.
wait a minute⊠you looked down to see the man underneath her feet. did she just land on him? âwhat the fuckâŠâ your eyes trail back up to the woman.
âyes, yes, give it up for your hero.â jinx spreads out her arms, waiting for applause. before you could say anything, she was already off the man and gone from your view. you no longer felt a tight grip on your hair and stumbled forward.
the man backed up âwho the hellââ jinx lashes out a well-aimed kick to the manâs head, his head collides with the alleyway wall and turns into a limp.
it was over so quickly. your arm still wrapped around your stomach. the womanâs hood falls, though you already had a good guess on who it was, her pink eyes fixated on you.
not knowing what to do, you speak up. âwere you stalking me?âÂ
âseriously? no, thank you?â
âoh, of course, where are my manners? my knight in shining armor, thank you ever so much!â your words dripping with sarcasm a smirk gracing your lips.
âdamn right, toots.â with her hands clasped behind her back she strolled toward you, her hips swaying with each stride. as she stopped directly in front of you her shimmering eyes darted around you nervously. âyes.â
confused at the simple word, you tilt your head, trying to make sense of it. her irises dilated.
âI want to be friends.â sparkling doe eyes met with yours briefly before darting away.
not knowing how to react, you spoke up, âdid you come all this way to say that?â great working [name], you just ruined your chance of becoming friends with the cool blue-haired beauty.
seeing your mistake, you shook your head, recognizing how much of a poor choice of words that was. âshit, sorry.â now she was leaning toward you she was close. so close. her face was just mere inches away from yours. âshut up and let me say this.â
yes maâam.
getting out of your face, jinx tries to stand up straight. âiâm a handfulâ more than that. I just want you to know what you are getting yourself beforeâŠâ
this was when you realized that powder wasnât mysterious for the aesthetic. not because she was some attention seeker like some locals would say. not because she was a loser. powder had a past that genuinely haunted her. those eyes carried a lifetime of pain and the way her shoulders were slumped made her seem exhausted.
you didnât know why she was she looked so drained. youâd be lying if you said you didnât want to find out. despite her weary demeanor, she was still reaching out, still holding on, and you were willing to take her hand because if anything she it looked like she needed this more than you.
you wanted a cool friend. jinx needed a friend.
before jinx could continue speaking, you blurt out, âwhen do you want to hang out?â jinx wasnât sure if she should smack you upside the head for interrupting her or if she should blow something up out of excitement⊠so she stared at you. fireworks seemed to pop behind her eyes.
âright now.â powder grabbed your hand in a swift motion, her grip firm yet fearful. the action causing you to pivot in the direction she was taking you. now running, she pulled you along with her. powder didnât know where she was running, she just needed to get the jitters out of her with you at her side.
ignoring the fact your legs felt like jelly because of the recent fight you smile, âi still donât know your name!â laughing into the breeze that rushes through your hair.
glancing back at you, jinx caught sight of your smile. as if the upturn of your lips were a virus, a smile tugged onto her lips. âiâll tell you when iâm ready.â jinxâs words echoed behind them.
âalright, baby blue.â

stalker- s.reid
a/n: i imagined a fem reader but as per usual, imagine what you like :)
summary: spencer saves you.
pairing: spencer reid x reader
warnings: general criminal minds topics, gore and brief descriptions of harm, mutual pining, heavy topics, stalking, reader if from Texas
Spencer sat at his desk, a less than pleasant expression on his face. His glasses had slid down his nose, his usually perfectly gelled hair was messy, and a frown played at his lips.Â
âIf you stare any longer youâre going to end up with your face stuck like that,â Jj joked as she placed herself in his eyeline. Spencerâs frown deepened and Jj chuckled. âCome on, we have a case.â
Spencer got up, falling into stride with you as you left your desk, hanging up the phone.
âWho were you talking to?â He asked, trying to make small talk. You were new to the team, an old contractor Strauss had hand-picked, you were smart (smarter than him), beautiful, and you were so polite and dutiful that Spencer couldnât tell if you were actually his friend. You just had an air of coolness that seemed so unreachable for Spencer. You and Derek had worked together in Chicago, you two made sense as friends, Penelope, Emily, Jj, and you all got along well, that made sense. David and you had a shared love of cooking, something SPencer couldnât even begin to understand. You even made Aaron laugh on the worst of days with some witty comment or sarcastic joke.Â
Had Derek just asked you to befriend Spencer for the team's sake? Why would you be interested in him? It made no sense.
You smiled. âMy friend from home.â
âWhere are you from?â He asked as you two sat in the conference room, Aaron shot you two a look that Spencer clearly didnât see so you didnât answer.Â
âTell you later,â you whispered as the briefing began.Â
â----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walking into the sweltering heat of Texas from the lovely air-conditioned plane was quite the shock to the body.Â
âFuck itâs hot,â you sighed, pulling off your hoodie to reveal a tight black top beneath. Yes, it was work-appropriate and completely within regulations, but Spencerâs eyes all but popped out of his head like he was in one of those cartoons.Â
âYouâre drooling,â Derek joked from beside him, pretending to wipe his chin. Spencer pushed his hands away with a shy smile, trying to recover from his embarrassing moment.Â
âOk, Spencer and Derek you two go to the latest crime scene, Y/n, Jj and I will go to the precinct, David and Emily you two will go talk to the deceased family,â Aaron gave out jobs. âOh and Y/n, I want you with someone at all times, this unSub is going after women with your exact description and our team is a definite hit for him. Heâs made contact with the police asking specifically for you and me,â Aaron explained.Â
You all dispersed into your separate cars and began working the case. The precinct was full of slimy cops who all promised to âprotect youâ, just not from themselves.
âWe want you to wear this,â Jj handed you a bulletproof vest and you rolled your eyes.Â
âSeriously? Iâm not a porcelain doll, I can handle myself-â You tried to reason with them but the look on Aaronâs face made you stop. He, himself, was wearing one too. âFine.â
âGood,â Jj smiled.Â
â----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spencer was worrying himself sick at the crime scene, rambling about all the ways the unSub could get to you and how you shouldnât even be in the state.
âSpencer!â Derek exclaimed. âGo to your girlfriend, send Jj back after you. Youâre no help when youâre like this.â
Spencer didnât take kindly to the small jest, but he didnât need to be told twice. He grabbed the keys and drove down to the precinct, finding Jj immediately and making up a poorly executed lie about feeling sick. She saw right through him.
âHope you feel better Spence,â she smirked. âY/n is with Hotch interviewing a suspect here,â she pointed it out on a map. âSee you later.â
After grabbing the keys to Emily and Davidâs vehicle (theyâd just come back from the crime scene) and driving there, anxiety ran through him as he found the door to the farmhouse open. He turned the corner, finding three figures. One was on the floor, shouting in agony, the other was standing, hands above their head. The third was holding a gun.
He turned back, dialling Derekâs number.Â
âWe need back-up, weâre at 34 Terrace Avenue! Agent down!â He spoke quietly into his phone.Â
âWeâre on the way kid, donât go in without back-up,â Derek told him. Spencer didnât respond. âSpencer?â
âSheâs dying,â he reasoned and hung up, walking in. âFBI! Put your weapons down!âÂ
The unSub, Mitchell OâHara had been obsessed with you since high school, youâd rejected him in senior year when heâd asked you to the prom since you already had plans with friends. All over the farmhouse, there were photos of you from every stage of your life. Childhood to teenage years, to college years, to your various positions before joining the BAU just a few months ago, including your CIA and covert Ops positions.Â
Spencer could see you on the ground, multiple knife wounds in your exposed torso, heâd made you take off your vest, Spencer thought. You groaned in pain on the floor. âSpencer?â You asked hazily. Spencer kept his gun trained on Mitchell.Â
âYeah?â He was stalling, waiting for Aaron to get his own gun or for back-up to arrive.Â
âGood,â you were slipping out of consciousness. âIâve always liked you,â you smiled hazily. Spencer would be elated at those words if the circumstances were different.Â
âThis is your dream guy Y/n?!â Mitchell shouted. âHim?!âÂ
âHeâs nice,â you managed. âHeâs funny.â
âIâm nice! Iâm funny!â Mitchell screamed.Â
âYouâre not Spencer,â you mumbled as everything went dark.Â
SWAT suddenly filled the room and Spencer ran to you, trying to stop the bleeding. Thank god Derek had ordered for an ambulance to follow them to the scene.
As Aaron cuffed Mitchell, Spencer went with you in the ambulance. He watched as they attempted to treat your wounds, needing to cut open your shirt. Spencer was shocked to find what looked like 50 different scars. Some from bullets, others knives, others things he couldnât name. He knew youâd been in the CIA and on a Cover Ops team, he never thought you wouldâve been hurt this many times and still have the strength to go on. The ambulance pulled up to the hospital and you were brought straight into emergency surgery.Â
He waited for hours there just pacing, nervously biting at his nails, or attempting to sit there as no one told him a thing. He lied, saying he was your boyfriend. Technically it wasnât a lie, you liked him, he liked you. He just hadnât asked.Â
âDr. Reid?â A nurse called out. He stood immediately. âSheâs stable and should be waking up soon, you can see her.â
Spencer nodded a âthanksâ her way and entered your hospital room.Â
You were alive. You were here. You were awake.Â
You smiled at him. âHey.â
Your voice was hoarse, tired from the shouting youâd done.Â
âHi.â
âThanks for saving me Spencer,â you smiled. âAnd about what I said⊠if you donât feel the same Iâd totally get it. I just thought I was⊠yâknow dying soâŠâ
Spencer shook his head and smiled. âI like you a lot too.â
You grinned. âGood.â
He leaned down, a sudden surge of confidence ran through him and he kissed you softly.
âIâm from Texas by the way,â you smiled against his lips.Â
âI actually guessed that, yeah,â he joked, making you laugh. God, he loved your laugh.Â
He loved you. He just wouldnât tell you that yet.

Hot take:
Crosshair does not have the Imperial disillusionment and redemption arc of The Bad Batch
Emerie does.
Crosshair has an arc for sure yes but it's not that.
I was thinking about this scene:
and how it got right what this scene kinda didn't:
(It was so close but then bad writing decided to undercut the moment with a joke rip)
And I think it's really interesting that these characters who were more or less raised into the Empire/First Order and chose to leave it are all directly asked why.
But take a look at Crosshair's answers in comparison:
Different context for the asking, yes, but still, compare that to clones like Howzer, Cody, Slip and Cade who left or turned against the Empire because they knew what the Empire is doing is wrong and they weren't just going to blindly follow orders:
Crosshair - Loyalty, Purpose, and Survival
Crosshair didn't choose to join the Empire (though the show isn't very clear or consistent about how much control the inhibitor chips have) but he did, for whatever reason, choose to stay. By the end of S1 we know his chip has been removed and as he definitively says "This is who I am." There were likely still other influences on his decision, but listen to how he talks about the Empire in the S1 finale:
Hunter: Crosshair, I've seen what the Empire is doing. Occupying planets and silencing anyone who stands against them. You know it's not right. Crosshair: You still donât see the bigger picture, but you will. Hunter: Can't you see they're using you?
Crosshair: Weâre not like the regs, we never have been. Weâre superior. The Empire canât protect the galaxy without strength, this is what we were made for. Think of all we could do, together!
Crosshair: You all are meant for more than drifting through the galaxy. Itâs time to stop running. Join the Empire, and you will have purpose again.
Hunter: They destroyed an entire city! Crosshair: They did what needed to be done. Kamino, regs, the Republic, that time is over. The Empire will control the entire galaxy, and I am going to be a part of it. Hunter: Don't fool yourself. All you'll ever be to them is a number.
He undeniably knows what the Empire is doing, but he does not care. In fact it sure sounds like he actually supports it and finds self-meaning in it. Hunter spends those episodes trying to convince him it's wrong, he doesn't change his mind. In the end they offer him an out and he doesn't take it.
Wrecker: You coming with us? Crosshair: None of this changes anything. Hunter: You offered us a chance, Crosshair. This is yours. Crosshair: I made my decision.
The next we see Crosshair in "The Solitary Clone" (S2:E3) he follows orders and shoots the Desix governor, right after Cody heartbreakingly tries to do what's right and find a peaceful solution.
Cody: Tell me something, Crosshair. This new Empire, are we making the galaxy better? Crosshair: Weâre soldiers, we do what needs to be done. Cody: You know what makes us different from battle droids? We make our own decisions, our own choices. And we have to live with them too.
After this (glorious!) conversation, Crosshair stays. Maybe this began to seed some doubts, but he actually smiles a few scenes later when Rampart assigns him another mission. It seems like for him it truly is as he said in S1:E1 (chip not enhanced yet but still influencing him enough for his brothers to notice he's acting strange):
Crosshair: Republic, Empire... what's the difference.
Crosshair: Orders are orders.
This unethical mission that finally pushed Cody over the edge does not change Crosshair's mind about the Empire, at least not enough for him to take action.
But what does?
Mayday: And here we are, the survivors. Combat troopers stuck babysitting cargo shipments. Crosshair: Missionâs a mission. Mayday: Yeah, I used to say the same thing.
Mayday: After all the clones have done, all weâve sacrificed. Weâre good soldiers, we followed orders. And for what?
This mission has nothing to do with how the fascist Empire treats the galaxy, it's about how they treat their soldiers. It's about how Mayday loyally fought and served his whole life and Lieutenant Nolan let him die
Lt Nolan: He served his purpose as a soldier of the Empire. Crosshair: You could have saved him! Lt Nolan: Perhaps you didnât hear me, he is expendable, as are you.
Crosshair thought he could find purpose within the Empire, and Nolan shows him exactly what that will be.
His turning point is accompanied with this powerful visual of the ice vulture, a symbol (and threat) of death, and also set up within the episode a symbol of survival:
Mayday: Vicious creatures, but you have to admire âem. They find a way to survive.
This critical moment (that gives me chills, oof this episode is a masterpiece!) comes right after Nolan calls him expendable and directly threatens him:
Lt Nolan: And if you speak to me again with such disrespect I'll see to it you meet a similar fate, clone.
then Crosshair sees the vulture's shadow and turns to Mayday's dead body (ahh visual storytelling my beloved) then makes his decision:
Crosshair turns against the Empire not because he believes Hunter was right about this:
Hunter: I've seen what the Empire is doing ... You know it's not right.
but because he was right about this:
Hunter: All you'll ever be to them is a number.
Redemption (both in fiction and irl in my humble opinion) comes with making amends and reparations (which is why death 'redemptions' bother me so much but that's a rant for another time). Unlike Emerie, Crosshair never explicitly denounces the Empire or his own actions within it. He never says anything to specifically show if and how his views have changed from what he said on Kamino. He makes amends with his family (sending the warning message, helping Omega escape, making up with Hunter) but that's about it. The most we get in terms of acknowledgement is this:
Crosshair: I thought I knew what I was getting into with the Empire. I thought I was being a good soldier. Hunter: Nobody really understood what was happening back then. Crosshair: Iâve... done things. Iâve made mistakes. Hunter: I have regrets too, Crosshair. All we can do is keep trying to be better, and who knows there just might be hope for us yet.
Which is nice and all but it's more about them making up as brothers so it's way too excusing tbh ("no one knew what was happening back then" ummm? "The Empire will control the entire galaxy, and I am going to be a part of it" remember? And even if at first Crosshair was being controlled by the chip, the fact that he chose to stay after it was removed* means he condones and is therefore still accountable for those actions).
There's also a bit of self-destructive guilt:
Crosshair: Omega, don't risk anything for me. I belong in here.
Crosshair: Omega needs you both. So Iâm doing this alone, itâs what I deserve. Hunter: Donât even think about plan 99, Crosshair. Omega needs all of us.
(which thank you Hunter for pushing back on the death redemption bs and oh look is that a wrap up for the purpose thing?)
But there's no action taken on his part to make up for what he's done or to stand against the Empire (aside from the bare minimum of help with Tantiss, only after it became personally relevant, which like yeah he had trauma to deal with but still).
While I do think the implications/follow-up of Crosshair's turn should have been handled better in S3 (like rip Howzer! he deserved an apology, but that's a rant for another time), I don't necessarily** think this arc is a bad writing choice. It's just saying different things than we expect:
Maybe Crosshair's story is not about standing up against an unjust system, like we see with many other characters (who deserved more screen time but that's a rant for another timeeee). Maybe his story is about how even those who are loyal to the Empire, who actually believe in it, still suffer under and within it's rule. Not to garner sympathy, but to show that there is no winning.
Crosshair has another 'so what changed' convo in S3:E14 with Rampart, in which they draw parallels to each other:
Rampart: You used to believe good soldiers followed orders. Crosshair: Depends on who's giving them. The Empire betrayed us both. Rampart: And you think you can fight them? That's not you. You're like me, loyal to no one but yourself. Crosshair: I've changed.
(note how he says who's giving the orders, not what the orders are)
"Loyal to no one but yourself" describes Rampart much more than Crosshair, since we often saw Crosshair pride himself as a loyal soldier of the Empire whereas we saw Rampart abuse power to be self-serving within the Empire (like when he killed Wilco to save face). But they were both betrayed either way. Vice Admiral Rampart, snively Imperial opportunist through-and-through, shouts "I was following orders!" as he is arrested for the Empire's purposes. (Edit: and where Crosshair rejected the Empire and found new purpose fighting for his family, Rampart was still self-serving in the finale. He still tries to gain power for himself and he gets his comeuppance).
Even Hemlock, the final boss immoral Imperial scientist, who has to be benefiting the most from this system, echoes the expendability idea:
Hemlock: What I am working on is beyond your understanding. Something so vital to the Empire it makes me indispensable.
Then there's CX-2, also set up as a parallel/foil to Crosshair (fight me), who in the end is discarded as no more than a weapon, a tool that served it's purpose, showing us what would have become of Crosshair if he had stayed.
There is no winning in the Empire. Loyalty is not rewarded, it "doesn't go both ways." Everyone has to fight for their value. Even high ranking individuals** who for a time benefit from the injustice, in the end are just pawns to be used up and cast aside at a whim for the Emperor's gain. Even people who are motivated by self-interest alone cannot survive within this system, the only viable option in this galaxy is to fight the Empire and dismantle that system. (unless you conveniently find a magically safe island to hide away on but that's a rAnT fOr AnOtHeR tImE)
Which brings us back to...
Emerie - Cooperation, Compassion, and Choice
(Okay this post has already gotten away from me but I still want to talk about her to show the contrasts.)
Emerie may not have been given a lot of screen time to really flesh out her development, but there is a lot that is pretty clearly implied with her:
Crosshair: Theyâll never turn her [Omega] over. Hemlock: They donât have a choice. She is a clone, and therefore Imperial property. *Camera cuts to an angle more centered on Emerieâs face*
Crosshair: Give me your access card! Emerie: It wonât get you outside!
Emerie: I tried to warn him what would happen if he did not cooperate with the Doctor.
Emerie: Prisoner? Omega, you are no such thing. It will take time to adjust, but you will acclimate. It is far safer in here than out there.
Emerie: You should go back to your room. Crosshair: You mean her cell?
Emerie: Why children? Hemlock: Children are easier to attain and more agreeable to the subjugations. They are unaware of why they are here and what they possess.
Emerie: They're children. Like I was... Was your plan to discard them too? Nala Se: The Empire will keep them in order to control them.
We don't know a lot about Emerie's background, but it's clear that she had a lot less choice than Crosshair and less opportunity or ability to leave. Unlike Crosshair, we never directly hear Emerie's views of the Empire (and she was most likely 'taken under Hemlock's wing' before the Empire even came to power), but lets look at how she talks about the Tantiss:
"Remain calm. Cooperate and you might survive."
"Don't make this worse, Crosshair! There is no escape!"
"All of us serve a purpose here."
"The Doctor will inform me, if it's necessary."
"It's best not to ask questions."
"Escape is not possible, Omega. This is for your own good."
She honestly does the best she can within the system she is also trapped in. She tries to help Crosshair, Omega, and the vault kids in the only way she knows how (warns Crosshair about the hounds and security, tries to protect Omega from Hemlock, tells Scorch his "actions were extreme" with Jax, insists on overseeing Bayrn's retrieval, double checks his m-count (to give him an out), and tries to find out where he came from). When she gives Omega, and later Eva, the doll, I think it shows just how little she really is able to do here (and it's kinda heartbreaking imo).
The framing of this shot especially (after Jax's escape attempt) visually shows how Emerie herself is trapped/imprisoned:
Despite the fact that very little of this is Emerie's fault, she has very little power and she is doing all she can, the narrative does not excuse her role in the Empire:
Nala Se: What will you do, Emerie? Emerie: There is nothing I can do. I don't have that kind of power. Nala Se: Don't you?
Emerie: I- I was doing my job. Echo: Yeah, Iâve heard that before. Youâre a clone. How can you be part of this?
These fighting-the-Bystander-Effect conversations parallel these exchanges:
Hunter: We made a choice, and so did you. Crosshair: Soldiers follow orders. Hunter: Blind allegiance makes you a pawn.
Crosshair: Weâre soldiers, we do what needs to be done. Cody: You know what makes us different from battle droids? We make our own decisions, our own choices. And we have to live with them too.
which did not change Crosshair's mind. And honestly, all respect to Echo's disappointed mom glareâą but I think it's clear Emerie had already made her decision, she just needed help to actually be able to do anything about it. When she stopped Echo, with her voice wavering on the verge of tears (ahhh v good voice acting), she clearly had no intention of turning him in. She's on her own in the Empire's most secure facility with very little resources, if she had tried anything on her own she most likely would have failed and been killed
Omega: Emerie, you don't have to do this. Emerie: (sigh) Iâm sorry, but I do.
but as soon as she is enabled by an ally, she immediately turns around to help: giving information and getting Echo through security, helping the kids escape, and giving Omega the tablet that allows them to free the other clone prisoners.
Where Crosshair's turn is accompanied by the symbolic imagery of the ice vulture, Emerie's is the removal of her (literally rose-tinted!) glasses:
Symbolizing how she has shed her previous views/indoctrination that altered her perception of the Empire and blinded her to it's wrongs. It's disillusionment.
Emerie's story shows us that even those who are raised and indoctrinated into this system can, should, and will escape (with needed help). Even those who did not choose to be apart of the Empire and are not making the decisions still have the responsibility and ability to act on what they know is right.
Emerie, whose name means 'Home strength' 'Brave' and 'Powerful', and "reflects the importance of leadership and authority in the workplace".***
While Emerie is only in one more scene after her turn, so the wrap up is a bit rushed, she still very simply does what Crosshair does not:
Emerie: Because I was wrong about this place. And I'm trying to do the right thing.
Echo: Iâm sure Senator Chuchi would find what you have to say very helpful for our cause. Emerie: I have a lot to make up for. Iâd like to help out however I can.
She admits wrong, takes accountability, commits to making amends, and leaves with Echo to go take on the Empire (which hopefully we will get to actually see more of some day).
So, in short, she's showing us how redemption is done right!
---
Notes:
*Whether this writing choice was good/logical/in-character or not is another discussion entirely, but I'm going off of what we were given, what the show is presenting in the canon text and (reasonably inferred/intentional) subtext. Crosshair is pretty multifaceted and I could only touch on so much here. There's a lot of ways to interpret his character/choices, but I tried to avoid the realm of speculation or fanon explanations (even if they sometimes make more sense lol).
**History and political theory are not my area of expertise at all, so I have NO idea how well this aligns with real-world fascism stuff and therefore what implications this storytelling choice could have. I think the message of like 'if you think you could survive or gain power by doing what the Empire/fascist system wants you are wrong' could be good (like how everyone is actually harmed by the patriarchy type of a thing), but I hesitate bc maybe there are those who would benefit, since it's a hierarchal system, right? If anyone more knowledgeable than me has incite to share, by all means
Either way, I do think it works in-story and in-universe though. It's just in the execution. The main problem (even from a strictly theme/character arc stand point) is the lacking follow-up/consequences for Crosshair in S3. Like you gave your character accountability by removing the chip and I think that's great setup for an arc but you gotta follow through with that and actually hold him accountable!
***I'm always curious when clones have 'normal' names, like why did they chose the name Emerie of all things? So I looked it up. Idk how reliable sources are for name meanings so take it with a grain of salt but it's still fun. Fits pretty well, and clones names have definitely had significant meanings in the past (like how Rex and Jesse both mean 'king') so I'm pretty sure it was intentional.
Anyway, thanks for coming to my tedtalk
#this fandom has been SLEEPING on Emerie's arc yall!#like look at her I LOVE her#I was kinda neutral about her on the first watch but now i'm realizing just how sad and scary her story is#she's honestly pretty cool and interesting as a character and i do hope we get to see more of her at some point#also the outpost is such good writing ahhh if only the whole show had the same quality#sorry crosshair girlies your blorbo is kinda a fascist?#like we don't judge a character based off who they were/what they said at the BEGINNING of their arc#they have to start somewhere to end up somewhere else#it's how well the writing executes that transition that matters#but also where did he end up? really :/#star wars#the bad batch#tbb analysis#tbb critical#those rants may come we'll see#star wars finn#emerie karr#tbb crosshair#arc trooper echo#captain howzer#commander cody#commander mayday#tbb cx 2#writing#writing pet peeves#character analysis#redemption arcs

â kArMa'S a B*TcH!
requested by @chaotic-toasters (thank you for being a therapist when needed!)
hope you enjoy the chaos, hehe.
requests are closed currently, however, feel free to drop to talk at all!
summary: reader needs therapy after witnessing that music video.
pairings: steph catley x reader, beth mead x reader, lia walti x reader, leah williamson x reader, kim little x reader
warnings: nothing but pure chaos and trauma over a certain music video...
Having lived in Switzerland, it wasn't often you got to see your auntie, so its' safe to say today you was thrilled about being able to hang out with her and more so, you'd be going to training with her and seeing the rest of the girls.
You'd been having so much fun hanging out with all of the girls, even joining in on winding some of the girls up.
"Hey, Y/N! C'mere a second, kid!" Your going about minding your own business, snacking on a sandwich in the canteen when your called out by Beth and Steph.
Poking your head up with the sandwich half hanging out your mouth, you tilt your head, "I didn't do it!" Your quick to protest.
You wouldn't call yourself a troublemaker per-say, but well, eh who're you kidding? You love being the centre of chaos.
Your auntie Lia wouldn't agree so much, it was one of the reason why you're stuck over in England for the time being right now.
Beth chuckles in amusement, "That's not why we're asking you to come over here," She pauses as she waves her hand slightly, "Come sit with us!" She encourages.
Shrugging your shoulders, you get up from your seat and make your way over to the two older girls, "What's goin' on?"
"We want to show you somethin', kid. You like watching music videos, don't you?" Steph wonders, holding her phone out in her hand but you can't exactly see what it is thats' on it.
"Er yeah, I do... Why?" You tilt your head in confusion but non the less plonk yourself down on Beths' knee instead of sitting on an actual seat.
What's the point of that when its' far less comfy, right?
"Perfect," Beth smirks and shares a look with Steph, "You'll like this then."
"Whos' music video is it?" You wonder, curiously.
"JoJo Siwa," Steph chimes in. "Your auntie told us that you like her music, kid."
"I do like her music," You nod in agreement.Â
Without further ado, Steph moves the phone to balance up against her water bottle before she clicks play on said music video.
You weren't completely aware of the fact that your reaction was being filmed either.
You really didn't know what to expect, given that all of all JoJos' videos you have seen in the past were normal, compared to this...
You were thrown off by the pitch black darkness, mysterious vibe of the music.
"Should I... Should I be scared about this?" You look between the two older girls with a slightly worried expression, "Wait, should I?"
Neither Beth nor Steph said much but laugh slightly, awaiting your reaction as the beat of the music started to play.
"Oooo, there's water," You take in the scene of the start of the music video, bopping your head along to the music casually, "Mysterious vibes." You state, wiggling your fingers like they sparkling.
All too soon that your watching the video and your mouth drops open, shaping the perfect 'O' shape as you stare in horror at the music video you're literally being forced to watch.
"What the--Â She's making out with another girl!" You exclaim in shock, "My eyes... My innocent eyes!"
Even if you wanted to escape from watching it, you couldn't do that, considering that Beth had her arms tightly wrapped around your waist so you couldn't up and leave.
"Ah! My eyes!" You repeat as you shriek in horror, immediately trying to shield your face behind your hands. "This isn't the JoJo Siwa that I remember!" You exclaim, keeping your hands over your face while you shake your head profusely.
"Just watch it, kid. It's not that bad," Steph chuckles, amusedly.
"NOT THAT BAD?" You exclaim in horror, whipping your head to look at the Aussie, "THIS IS... THIS IS HORRIFYING!" You whine, trying to wiggle out of the blondes' arms.
"It's certainly a lot different," Beth jokes.
You continue to shake your head profusely, "Turn it off! Turn it off! I can't even... I need bleach-- I don't want to watch anymore!"
Unfortunately both of the older girls' continue to laugh at your own expense, finding the situation completely hilarious.
Of course they'd watched the video previously and as soon as they did, they knew you were the perfect one for them to film a reaction to watching this music video, considering your usual love for JoJo's music.
"This... This isn't even music-- I don't like it!" You begin to try and claw at your eyes, definitely not keen on the music video in front of you.
You manage to somehow worm your way off the blonde's knee, wriggling all the way to the floor as you do no more than lie there rolling around as you make a lot of noise shrieking like a banshee while clawing at your face, trying to scrub the memory of the video.
"Turn it... Turn it off, please!" You plead with them both, hearing the tune in the background as you continue to roll around on the floor like it would solve all of your problems.
Beth snorts in amusement at your overdramatic performance on the ground, "I don't see what's so bad about it, Y/N. It's just a music video." She comments.
"Just a music video? Bethany, that is pure vulgar-- That is... That's not even music!" Your absolutely horrified about the video; Why would anyone create something like this and actually put it out there?
The commotion you began to make was soon spotted as you lay on the floor by the rest of the girls.
"What's going on with your niece, Wally?" Leahs' the first to spot your not so normal behaviour.
"Is she okay?" Kim frowns, concerned.
Lia looks over to you and furrows her eyebrows, "I... I don't know," She watches you continue to roll around on the floor as she realises she should find out what's wrong with you. "Y/N, what's going on?" She wonders, concerned.
"My eyes, auntie Lia-- My eyes!" You exclaim, still trying to claw at them to try and block out the horror that you just witnessed.
"What?" Lias' left even more confused, trying to make sense of what is actually going on.
"Help me, auntie! Help me!" You continue to roll around dramatically on the floor, "I can't... I can't even-- I don't like it!"
"What? Y/N, sweetheart, I can't understand what you're talking about here," Lia admits, confused with your unusual behaviour compared to usual.
"Let me try," Leah suggests, getting up from her seat and joining the small group before she crouches down to your own level, "Hey buddy, what's goin' on?" She wonders, concerned.
"Pain! So much pain!" You exclaim dramatically while you still attempt to claw at your eyes.
Leah and Lia share a confused look, "Wha-- What're you talkin' about buddy, what's happened? Are you hurt?" She questions.
"Yes, yes I am hurt!" You somewhat whine in response, "I need... I need help!" You state, attempting to wriggle round on the floor, but thats' difficult with Leahs' hand resting on you to stop doing exactly that.
"Your hurt?" Lia immediately kneels down beside you and tries to inspect which part of your body is injured, "Where hurts, Y/N? Tell me so I can get help!" She panicks slightly, trying to figure out what it is that's exactly wrong.
"You... You can't help, the pains' in my eyes-- I need to bleach them!" You murmer, trying to erase the memory of the video but having no luck.
"What?" Lia's even more confused now before she glances at the older girls' giggling to themselves like school girls, "What is going on?" She asks.
"We thought we'd show Y/N the new music video that JoJo Siwa released," Beth snickers, finding it hilarious to watch your initial reaction to it.
Lia furrows her eyebrows even more confused than before, not understand whats' so bad about that.
"Are you girls crazy? Why... Why an earth would you show a little girl that type of video?" Kims' voice barks aloud, overhearing the conversation.
"Hey! I'm not a little girl. I'm almost 13, you know!" Your quick to protest, causing from the mid meltdown. "I'm... I'm traumatised, auntie Lia!" You exclaim.
"Show me the video? It can't be that bad," Lia gestures for Steph to press play on the video, so that herself and Leah can understand it and within the first minute or so in, her expression completely changes, "What is wrong with you two? Why an earth would you traumatise my niece with that sort of video!" She barks at them.
"Exactly my point," Kim waves her hand off, like she was talking sense the whole time.
"That is... That is one crazy video," Leah murmers as her eyes widen in disbelief, knowing its' no wonder the way that you suddenly reacted when you saw it.
"See, auntie Lia? Its' pure trauma... I need therapy!" You whine dramatically, shaking your head profusely, "Months and months of therapy!"
"Well, shes' not wrong there," Leah snorts, trying to stifle her laughter when Lia looks at her unimpressed, "But eh, yeah, seriously, girls... Why would you show her that?" She tries to act like the responsible adult that she is.
Safe to say that Steph and Beth found the whole situation most amusing to watch you freak out mentally, of course taking the opporunity to taunt you with that god-awful song.
At any given time of the day...
Curse that stupid song that exsists.
Like the moment that you're peacefully minding your own business, sat on the sidelines of the pitch messing around with your Nintendo Switch, having a blast on Mario Kart when Steph decides to walk over to you, casually picking up her water bottle to take a few swigs before she starts to hum that familiar tune.
"No," You whine, going to cover your ears.
You swear that Steph even smirks at you at one point, before she continues to go about humming the god-awful song.
"No, no, no stop-- I need bleach... I need to bleach my ears out!" You whine dramatically, trying to block it all out, "STOP ITTTTT!"
"kArMa'S a BiTcH--"
"Auntie Lia! Auntie Lia! Help me, Stephs' singing that song!" Of course you tattle-tale straight away, being the shit-stirring little menance that you are, "Auntieeeee Lia, make her stop singin'!" You continue to whine dramatically.

The pale chef
Astarion x f!Reader
Summary: Astarion attempts to cook for you, but things donât go as planned.
Word Count: 1,7k
A/N: I got the idea that Astarion naturally struggles with preparing food, so I had to write some fluff about it! Hope you enjoy :)
[ AO3 ]
Astarion stirred the pot in concentration, holding a wooden spoon in his hand and wondering what exactly he was doing here.Â
This whole endeavour resulted from your constant need to be nice to him, he thought with a sigh â apparently it made him want to be nice as well.Â
It started the other day when you mentioned how you would kill for a mushroom soup. At first he thought nothing of it, but for some reason the idea stuck to his head, so Astarion decided to roam the forest and gather some mushrooms. Unfortunately it turned out rather quickly that he lacked essential knowledge on the matter, so he had to consult Gale of all people.Â
Putting his pride aside, he asked through gritted teeth which ones were edible and which to avoid, since he had no desire to poison you by accident. Due to Gale being Gale, the wizard not only lectured him on different kinds of fungi, he had also given a detailed instruction on the soupâs recipe.
Astarion chuckled at the absurdity of the scene. He had never thought that one day he'd voluntarily prepare food for another person â and yet he found himself bending over the hearth and mixing different ingredients, hoping for the best.
He even wore an apron borrowed from said wizard, therefore he was more than glad that his companions had left for a supply run, while you were waiting in your shared tent so he could attempt this little surprise in solitude.
Gale's voice echoed in his mind: Chop the mushrooms, add them to the broth, stir until thickened, season with salt and pepper and sprinkle a few herbs on top â thatâs it! Absolutely foolproof, even for someone who prefers to appease their hunger solely with blood.
The mushrooms had been the easiest part. His dexterous fingers cut them into perfectly bite-sized pieces, but Astarion bloody forgot how long the meal should rest on the fire.
Suddenly a burning smell lingered in the air, and he sensed in horror that the soup was boiling over.
âFuck!â He grabbed the pot with haste and put it away from the heat.
Well, he thought as he gazed at the bubbling mass, that probably meant it was done.
With utmost care not to spill more of his precious loot, he grabbed a ladle and filled a large portion for you. If he already took the effort for such a novelty, you should at least get your belly full.
Astarion slipped out of the apron and made his way back to you. He assumed you were already growing impatient, as this entire affair had consumed far more time than he had anticipated.
âHello, darling,â he purred when entering your tent, skilfully balancing the bowl in his hand.Â
âFinally! I thought you'd kept me waiting all night â wait, what's that?â You put the book you were reading aside and eyed the dish in his hands.
âIâm not quite sure myself, but according to Gale's recipe it should resemble a mushroom soup.â
Your eyes lit up. âHold on â you prepared this for me? You know thatâs my favourite, right?â
âI suppose I do.â Astarion offered you the soup with a coy smile. âAlthough you should remember that Iâm not particularly versed in the culinary arts, so it might be best to treat this with caution.â
You took the bowl from his slender fingers. âHah, let me be the judge of that! Besides, it was about damn time you returned the favour of feeding me for once, hm?â
âI couldnât try it myself for obvious reasons, but I doubt that this could compete with your delicious blood,â Astarion replied jokingly and sat next to you, curiously watching as you sniffed the soup.
âSmells not badâŠâ you affirmed while blowing on the steaming broth resting on your spoon. âNow comes the delicate part â the taste test.â
The spoon disappeared in your mouth, and suddenly your face twisted into a grimace. You swallowed hard, a cough forcing its way through your pressed lips.
Astarion couldnât help but snort over your clumsy attempt to keep the soup inside. âSo â I sense I failed you miserably?â
âWhat? No â I mean, itâs not⊠terrible,â you stuttered. âItâs⊠Well â did you let it burn by chance?â
âMaybe.â He dragged out the syllables dramatically and shrugged. âBe honest, my dead heart surely can take it â shall we save this mess for Scratch and the owlbear?â
âOf course not!â you exclaimed with widened eyes. âIâm not hesitant to share, but not something you specially made for me. Also, some things tend to get better once you get used to the flavour, you know.âÂ
Before Astarion could intervene, you put another spoon to your mouth and eagerly gulped it down, followed by a second and a third.Â
âThereâs certainly room for improvement,â you eventually muttered with full cheeks, âbut itâs not that bad.â
âIâm afraid youâre a poor liar, my love.â Astarion gently grasped your wrist to prevent you from taking another mouthful. âSo please let me stop you right there, before you seriously upset your gut. Iâm sure we can get you something more nutritious for the evening.â Then he took the spoon from your hand and put the bowl aside.
âIf you insist,â you said with fondness in your eyes while wiping soup from the corner of your mouth. âBut honestly â thank you, Astarion. This was⊠unexpectedly sweet.â
Heat rose to his ears as he rested his hand on your stomach, starting to draw circles. âWell, let's just hope my failed culinary attempt won't kill you tonight.â
âI guess in that case Laeâzel would avenge me, so youâd better start preparing yourself.â
âMh⊠You think sheâd stake me?â Astarion questioned and continued to caress your belly.
âWho knows what her creativity will lead to in the end. Knowing Laeâzel, sheâd probably come up with something worse,â you pondered while tapping your chin. âBut I guess you wouldn't let your preferred blood supply die that easily after all, would you?â
âOh, don't sell yourself so short,â Astarion countered in feigned bewilderment. âYou know that you mean way more to me than that.â
âIs that so?â
âWell, you also keep me warm at night, sparing me the coin for a thicker blanket. You know how expensive those things can get.â
You playfully raised an eyebrow, clearly not satisfied with his response. âAnd if you had to give a genuine answer this time?â
Astarion clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes. âI thought my sentiments were rather obvious by now.â
âAnd yet I don't seem to tire of hearing your appreciation for me,â you teased.
âGetting greedy now, arenât we? Fine, you're ... quite decent. Despite your constant need to do something heroic, of course.â
You poked his shoulder and turned away with an exaggerated pout.
Astarion chuckled, before he cleared his throat. âAlright â perhaps youâre more than that.âÂ
He drew you in his arms and breathed against your cheek. âOne might also say you're the first person I truly came to care about. Deeply.â
Your lips brushed over his contours, searching for his own until you kissed him tenderly. âSee? Wasnât that hard, was it?â
Astarion rested a peck on your forehead and embraced you closer, a pleasant flutter spreading in his chest.Â
You were right, he thought as his lips curled into an affectionate smile â with you, everything seemed surprisingly easy these days.
*
The next morning Astarion woke to a rumbling. He opened his eyes and could only make out your silhouette as you hastily rushed outside, leaving the flap of your tent wide open.
âLove, are you alright?â he asked in concern and immediately got up to follow you.
âDon't worry, Iâm fine,â you huffed under your breath.
Astarion knelt beside you in the grass and frowned. âAre you sure?â
âI said⊠itâs alrightâŠâ You gagged between your words. âBut perhaps the soup⊠Ughââ
âDonât be stubborn,â Astarion said softly, when he noticed that you were still wearing his shirt from the other night. âAnd for the love of the gods â please be careful not to stain my clothes.â
âThat's what youâre most concerned about right now?â
âNo, of course not! But â Thatâs my favourite,â Astarion mumbled while he reached for your hair, smoothing it back over your shoulders.
âFANGS, what did you do to her?!â Karlachâs voice erupted like a thunderstorm from the other side of the camp as she spotted the two of you.
âNothing â I only prepared some soup for her last night!â
âShadowheart! Hurry up, we need you â Astarion poisoned our leader!â Karlach was already marching in the cleric's direction.
âWhat â no!â You both spoke almost simultaneously, causing you to laugh.
âI seem to have a sensible stomach,â you managed to add before retching again.
Astarion turned serious as he rested his hand on your back. âI'm terribly sorry, my love. That wasnât meant to happen at all.â
You offered a weak smirk. âI know, and I appreciate the thought. Besides, that means your next dish can only improve.â
Astarion gazed at you in disbelief. âYouâd consider letting me cook again after this entire debacle? Those mushrooms must have gone to your beautiful head.â
âWell, on second thoughtââ You couldn't finish your sentence as your stomachâs content finally emptied onto the grass.
Astarion felt a twist at his ribcage seeing you like this. âWeâd better make sure I havenât actually poisoned you, shall we? â SHADOWHEART! Get yourself over here â now!âÂ
âI'M ON MY WAY!â Shadowheart shouted from afar.
âI think the worst is already overââ you began to explain, when another voice cut you off.
âTskâva! What is going on?â Laeâzel poked her head from her tent, obviously annoyed by the sudden tumult.
âPlease, donât let her stake me,â Astarion whispered and continued to stroke your back.
âBe glad that I love you, otherwise Iâd probably let her get away with it this time,â you replied mischievously.
Astarionâs chest filled with warmth as he grasped for your hand. âMy sweet, I truly am.â Then he bowed his head to place a kiss on your hair. âAnd I love you too. So much in fact, that I might consider forgiving you for ruining my shirt.â
You squeezed his hand and grinned. âPrick.â
Astarion returned your grin before his expression turned soft. âBut honestly, I promise Iâll make this up to you.â
Next time he would surprise you with something less nauseating, he thought as his fingers entwined with yours â a safe choice like bringing another stray to your camp, or a nice perfume perhaps.
