Adam's mom lied. There was no food ready and waiting for them.

Why was he not surprised?

Because he had known she was gonna test his Audrey in some way or another more than what he could predict. And making her cook was the way she had chosen. Poor fool. Absolute buffoonery. Clownville's mayor behavior.

"Oh, you came so suddenly, I had no time to prepare anything..." she had lied, despite knowing that she had been hanging the promise of Adam's favorite childhood dinner for their arrival.

"It's fine, Oddie can help you work something out," he had turned to look at Audrey holding back a devious look under a coy smile.

"Oh, how wonderful! It will be our girl's hideout then, my poor boy here can barely make a cereal bowl without it catching on fire..." she teased her son as she pulled Audrey by the shoulders into the kitchen.

"That was ONE TIME! and I was 10..." he huffed, following close behind the two women before sitting by the kitchen island, opting to just watch them bustle around and help with reaching whatever they needed instead of daring come any closer to the stove.

"Cereal? Seriously?" Asked Audrey in an amused tone.

"I thought it'd be crunchier if I cooked it... I sprayed it with cooking oil after turning on the flame..." he mumbled. Audrey huffed to not burst out laughing... it was unladylike to do so.

"I swear, men are completely useless in the kitchen. It's a miracle there are male chefs anywhere..." his mother rolled her eyes as she put an apron over Audrey's head, briskly walking around her to tie it on her back. Adam discreetly gave her a once over, loving how it hugged her waist so adorably.

She pulled out a unfrozen pack of meat, which struck Audrey as odd, as she claimed to not have had anything prepared. Had she not known it was a test, she would've wondered why buy such a cut if she wasn't expecting visits.

The more ingredients she pulled out, the more she recognized what she was trying to make. How could she not? She herself had uploaded that recipe to her blog not a week before coming to visit her boyfriend's mother.

She had specifically put in her caption "I'm going to visit someone important soon, someone dear to an acquaintance of mine. It made me wonder how I'd greet guests I was meeting for the first time. So I asked my acquaintance what they thought the most delicious dish was... this was their answer."

The acquaintance had been Adam of course. And the dish he thought of? Steak. Of course. He's a man. What else would he say? New York style strip steak with a cheesy rue she had come up with and her preferred potato recipe.

Audrey began to season the meat as Adam's mom cut the potatoes and onions. A hiss from her side made her head whip around. Adam's mom held her finger tightly as she stepped away from the cutting board.

"I'm sorry Oddie, I cut myself... think you can handle all of this on your own? I'm uneasy around blood..." she pleaded with her eyes. but Audrey saw no blood spilled on the cutting board. It was a lie then, and this was part of the test.

"Don't worry, I can take care of dinner. Adam, can you help her please?" He sprung up from his seat as his mother all but fell into his arms, she let him lead her into the couch, and Adam turned to look at Audrey with an eye-roll, gesturing discreetly at his mother. Audrey smiled before heading back to the kitchen.

It was laughable how Mrs. Carter stole peeks at her from the kitchen island, waiting for Audrey to stress and make a mistake. Hinging on the idea that dinner will be burned and she'd get to gloat at Audrey's uselessness. All while unknowingly leaving Audrey in her element.

Hell, Mrs. Carter had even bought everything down to the same brand of salt for the dish as she used at home. Audrey bit her lip to avoid laughing at the irony. She also held back a prideful grin when Mrs. Carter's brow furrowed deeper and deeper as dinner got closer and closer to being ready.

Audrey even had the time to make to make cornbread for dessert as the rue browned. Another recipe of hers that she had been asked repeatedly to make on her blog. She recalled Adam sending her a full set of baking pans for her to try out during the first days of her blog, back when he first began to stalk her.

He had left a comment that back then she didn't understand was an innuendo about her cornbread. She wondered if he remembered it. He probably did. Same way he recalled down to the second how long they had been together.

Audrey caught Adam grinning proudly at her as she served the dishes on the table, all while his mother looked at her wide wide eyes and her jaw down to the floor.

Adam and his mother sat with drool almost coming out of their mouths as the smell of the steak reached their noses, Audrey sat in front of Adam, leaving his mother at the head of the table.

"Well... Oddie this is..." Mrs. Carter poked at the potatoes suspiciously, pretending she wasn't aching to try the food already.

"Mom, please give it a try. I swear I've never eaten anything sweeter than what Oddie feeds me." His tone was innocent, but the split-second glance he gave Audrey almost made her blush.

After a questioning look, Mrs. Carter took a small bite from the stake, coating it with the rue and topping it with a potato. As soon as it touched her tongue, she stopped. For a second Adam got concerned that she had stopped breathing all together. Then her eyes went back to focus and she took another bite, larger this time. Her face fell, or rather, the mask of superiority she had since Audrey began to cook.

"So?" Audrey asked softly, not even bothering to hide the cheekiness on her tone.

"Audrey... be honest..." she spoke slowly, still savoring the food. Audrey tilted her head and looked at her patiently. "Did you get this recipe from Hobby 04-12-20?" the stern look she gave her made Audrey feel coy all of the sudden.

"Well, I actually am, Hobby 04-12-20..." she confessed coyly. Adam's mother dropped her fork and stared at her with eyes wider than the plate her food was on.

"Heavens!" she exclaimed, flustered and excitedly hitting Adam's arm as she smiled at Audrey. "Adam! Did you know? My dear heavens... I love your recipes!..." she rambled, leaning on her elbow to blabble to Audrey all about her favorite recipes from her.

"Mom! don't suffocate her!" he chuckled at her, Audrey felt seen and shy, she tried to not sink into her chair to avoid the sudden outburst. "And of course I knew, why did you think I wanted to present her to you?"

That seemed to break his mother's resolve to dislike Audrey. From then on, conversation came easy, there was no dismissive undertone to the woman's tone, and for once... Audrey felt what eating dinner with a family feels like.

Adam washed the dishes, -as always- while his mom gushed about his baby pictures with Audrey in the living room. He fought hard against the urge to storm in and toss the photo album out the window to save him the embarrassment. He had to deal with Audrey's ocasional "Oh... my God...." whenever a particularly embarrassing photo came up. He could only imagine what horrors his mother must be showing her. His ears were red and his hand trembled in anxiety over it.

"Adam's first band!" Audrey exclaimed as Adam finished drying his hands. He sped into the room and his world crumbled as his mother showed her pictures from his emo days. He was mortified.

Core Gems

So when a ghost becomes injured, they have a last ditch defense where they retreat into their core. And I mean, injured badly where their body is rip apart to the point they can’t hold a solid form anymore. And they basically go into a hibernation state until they are strong enough to form again.

Ellie, Danny, and Dan are all injured in a final battle against the GIW. The organization was destroyed and the ghosts were safe but the halfas ended up being so injured that they reverted to core form and then went to sleep for a bit. When they woke up, they were still weak but at least recovered enough to gain consciousness. And realize…they are in some kind of auction…in the middle of a heist. It appeared that two furries (one in a bat costume and one in a cat costume) were ducking it out. And they…they were a necklace. All three of them had been turned into a necklace with their cores as gems accompanied by sapphires, pearls, and opals. And frankly gorgeous craftsmanship as the metal was crafted around their cores as if to cradle them and the other gems.

Unfortunately, they were too weak to take a form properly, they could still feel the strain on their bodies. But at least they could still communicate through their auras. Then the cat lady punched a hole in the glass container surrounding them and grabbed their necklace.

However, the bat grabbed the other end and it resulted in a sort of tug-a-war. Meanwhile, Danny, Ellie, and Dan were having a back and form commentary on the situation and what they should do. Completely unheard by the other party.

In the corner of their eye, the three halfas finally noticed a third contender. Some kind of clown who was…hold on…holding a gun?! And it was pointed straight at the two fighting furies who had yet to notice him. The ghosts’ protective instincts went into overdrive and they frantically tried to shout, yell, move. Just do something to warn the two but their cries fell on deaf ears. All they succeeded in doing was faintly glow which immediatly caught the attention of the fighting duo. The two turned to look at the strange necklace but right at that moment, the clown fired and a gunshot rang throughout the auction room. Having no other options, Danny and the others poured every ounce of ectoplasm they had to try and phaseshift, making the two furries intangible as the bullets passed right through them, but in their shock, the two jumped away in opposite directions and accidentally ripped the necklace apart. Gems and pearls went flying and the three cores bounced along the ground.

Luckily, the two finally noticed the clown and went to deal with him and his minions who had appeared. Seemingly putting their fight on hold and forming a temporary truce. The three halfas could only watch as the battle finally wound down, ending with the cops barging into the place and arresting the clown and his grunts, the cat managing to escape with half the scattered gems and pearls from the broken necklace along with a few other jewelry pieces (none of their cores though) and the bat leaving through a skylight.

The auction continued and in the end, despite being broken, their necklace seemed to have caught someone’s interest. A man named Bruce Wayne bought up every piece of the shattered jewelry wear. The auctioneers appeared relived that the item managed to sell in the end and gratefully gave it to him.

Bruce had no idea what happened at the auction, but he could have sworn that some of the gems faintly glowed right before he and Selina were shot. If the necklace was some sort of magical item, then he needed to understand exactly what has been brought to Gotham. It was unfortunate that Selena had taken some parts of the necklace but he utilized his vast wealth to make sure all the other parts ended in his possession. Now he would take them back to the mansion for examination.

A little HC of mine is Lee accidentally seeing Silena talk through her bracelet before the Labyrinth.

He was checking if others were in their positions and couldn't find Silena. He stumbles upon her and stands there for a moment, in disbelief, as he hears her talk to the Titan Army. Her face after she sees him looks like one of a person whose family was just murdered before them. Like Lee is the murderer.

He confronts her because how could she? She was his friend, she was camp's big sister, someone kids always went to when they had a problem or wanted to talk to. And there she stands, giving away their secrets?

They couldn't talk longer because they needed to protect camp (or Lee needed to protect it). He gave her one last look, one that told "We'll talk about it later," and ran to his siblings.

The last time she saw him alive, he was angry with her. The next time he had his skull bashed in. Her secret remained hidden once more.

the bad: i have been raised without much warmth from my parents in childhood, but also pressured to conform to familial authority, doubt myself always, and value familial connections above all else (<- failed at this, and feel guilt about it.)

but also in experiencing this i have been so isolated from the entire rest of the world and others, that it will be nearly impossible to create my own "family" -> find safety and comfort in anybody else once my family is Gone. despite dis i find it really difficult to break away from the familiar, disobey and disappoint, because, well, why are my wishes more important than anybody else's. why would I cause upset and distress in anybody, and exert so much effort into my doubt filled half decisions, for my meaningless little Wishes. being away would also mean less time with these people who I'll never see again once they're gone. being raised this way is definitely paying off for those who did so.

No need to apologize! It's not one singular person doing it and truth be told I don't think it's a large majority that thinks that (albeit the ones that do are quite vocal). I didn't mean to upset anyone or anything when complaining about it, I was just letting off some steam.

Having a yap session under the cut sorry I feel like rambling under your ask anon.

Admittedly, I do think there are reasonings for people thinking this way. A lot of the focus with Clash has been on the cogs, especially after the 1.3 update. Which I can't say I blame them! Managers were something new and exciting and (from what I can tell) really separated them from the other servers. I don't blame them for wanting to put focus on that because that was their thing. Alongside other things, but majorly when you hear Clash the managers are mentioned in someway shape or form. But as we all know, toons ended up taking the short stick from this. This isn't helped by the gameplay itself, being mainly a fetch-quest deal so you often only talk to npcs once or twice unless if they're repeated ones and the taskline wasn't entirely accessible on the wiki for a while (shoutout to the wiki maintainers. The taskline script is a savior). Which I'm quite excited to see if they deal with this issue with the rewrite. I imagine they will, but anyways. Social media posts would often contain more managers than toons, which I also believe they're starting to fix. And ontop of this, I believe most of the team in the early era of the sever is gone, so there's been some stuff lost in the change. So yeah, dialogue/writing has been kind of rocky. AGAIN- I am completely aware of the rewrite going on and I am not judging them harshly based off of their current state. I'm very appreciative of the fact that they took the time to listen and are focusing on trying to fix it up. And then there's also fandom mischaracterization- especially of the cogs. Forgive me for mentioning mischaracterization because normally I wouldn't really care (I've mischaracterized characters before..especially in my younger years. I think it's just a process of learning an having fun and I hate to limit anyone because of it). With that being said, there's a lot of baby-fying and coddling of the managers. Especially with those who have more 'sympathetic' stories (Misty, Chip, Winston specifically). Don't get me wrong, I like these characters and I can appreciate the story they're trying to tell, but I feel like so many people will hear their dialogue and then misplace their anger. People get mad at Bessie for trying to protect HER lighthouse or at the Elders for trying to keep YOTT safe (lets not forget Winston was there to brainwash toons). Yes, yes technically there would've been better ways to do it but consider this: The toons are scared. Their homes, stores, lives are being taken over by a big corporation that has more resources that they do. They don't have the privilege of waiting, seeing, and gathering. And then people forget that the company has such a huge role in both toons and cogs lives. If you're mad over the mistreatment of Misty or the fact that Winston is still in the dungeon, your anger should be directed at the company who doesn't care. I may be completely wrong in saying this, but I feel like the stories with almost all of the managers is a reflection of the company. The toons are only trying to protect themself and their environments and yet this seems to go forgotten when people start bashing them. And of course, I'd consider myself a toon guy so me saying all this and complaining may come off as "I HATE the cogs and everyone who posts only about them!" and for clarification that's not true. You all know how much I like that little brain thing. The cogs are interesting, their designs are fun, I don't blame people for liking them because I do too. I just wish that the thought process behind so many of these discussions wasn't so cog focused because I believe that this anger at the toons for, RIGHTFULLY, defending themselves helps push this mischaracterization of them as a whole. That they're mean, boring, unlikeable while the opposite is true. Yes there are some, what I'd consider, "filler" dialogue from the shopkeepers. This is just because of the gameplay. But there are some funny and cute moments with them if people would just listen and read.

Which also brings me into another point: people skip the dialogue. I've caught myself doing this before (on my first account. I have 4 accounts total, so I reread the dialogue on like 3 of them). But people will complain about lack of toon personalities while doing this. It's like reading through a comic book, only looking at the drawings, and then complaining because there "isn't a storyline". Luckily, there's been efforts to keep track of the dialogue on the wiki but I doubt a lot of people are going through and reading the entire script. It just feels very disingenuous to criticize the dialogue when you haven't even read it. Likewise, people don't seem to read the blogposts either. This is both from a dialogue aspect and from an update aspect (people continuously asking about hammerspace/mix-and-match under unrelated posts).

I've seen some meta posts and fanart about Blitz giving Stolas those "gud job" stickers he gave the little goat, and I just love all of them for so many reasons. It's such a good concept, especially in the context of a future where Stolas works for I.M.P., because I think it'd ultimately be very good for both Stolas in general and for his and Blitz's relationship.

Bear with me for a second as I go on a little tangent, but I remember seeing a post awhile back about this dnd group who had a kindergarten teacher for a DM, and she would give out stickers when the players did a good job in the game. After a little while she started to encourage them to do better outside of the game too, like showering/doing laundry more often or learning how to cook so they could take turns with her to provide the weekly meal for their group, and she would praise them when they did, which made them want to do it more often. She'd also do stuff like tell them, “we don't use autistic as an insult here, I'm very disappointed in you”, and they'd stop. And all of that worked, because they were so unused to having someone be proud of them or getting praised for good behavior.

Good job stickers are such a small reward, but both children and adults alike tend to cherish getting them and are more motivated to do well when they have tangible proof that their efforts are noticed and appreciated. If you consistently give people praise for what they do right while they're still learning, they usually take the inevitable course corrections that come with any learning curve a lot better. And when they get something really wrong and cross a line, a simple “I'm very disappointed in you” or "hey, that's really fucked up, don't say shit like that" hits much harder, and prompts them to both want to do better and to be more conscientious of their words/actions going forward in order to be told they did a good job again and get another sticker for their accomplishment of unlearning the unwanted behavior.

And literally I think that'd work so well on Stolas - and probably Blitz too, let's be real. He's starved for approval from people whose opinion he cares about and he's likely desperate to be told whether or not he's doing the right things, because he's been trying so hard to be a better person, but he's been having to do it basically entirely alone without much direction. Positive reinforcement would work so much better for people like him and Blitz than getting a tongue lashing every time they got something wrong. And I genuinely think Blitz and Stolas would want to use this method of positive reinforcement once they got started. They don't like hurting each other outside of a BDSM context, and honestly doling out praise for doing well is probably something they already used to do during/after scenes, so once Blitz gets them started with the stickers I think they'd probably fall back into it pretty naturally. Whether the others follow suit is up for debate though lol.

[OOC rant about HL rp space here on tumblr: Wanted to mention this for a while but engagement requires... engagement. The more rp blogs exchange asks, the more pathways there are to communicate, to create a net of connections, make characters and the world around them come to life. Over the past year and a half I sent hundreds of asks, in anon/as me/as my characters. I understand being shy. I've been there, and it took some great people in this community to get me out of my shell.

But it is just what it is: unfortunately, if there is no reciprocity, there is no dialogue.

You don't have to wait for a green light/talk in DMs first with creating an rp scenario to send anyone an ask or to initiate rp by tagging someone. You can if it makes you more comfortable but don't have to. Most of us have Rules of Engagement but that's all the pre-requisites.

Before I burned out, I sent people asks just to make them happy, give some interactions for their characters. I wanted to find out more about MCs/OCs.
