Sleepover / Pillow Fort Headspace

An Outsider’s View

On the outside, this realm doesn’t look like much compared to other places in headspace. NPC passerby tend to gossip about it: “What’s all this fuss about a tent made of blankets for? Can’t you make that at home?” It gets quite irritating to hear that ad nauseum… Such is the reason why the entryway to this part of headspace moves around so often. It could be set deep in the forests on one day, masquerading as part of a circus troupe the next, or found in one’s basement on the third. No matter the location of the entrance, one thing remains the same: it takes the form of a comfortable-looking blanket fort of impressive size, able to support at least a few people inside of its walls. Looking at it evokes a sense of nostalgia in your heart… Surely you can spare a few minutes to take a look around, no?

Personal Rooms

The word “room” has a very loose definition in this headspace. When the walls, floors, and ceilings are all made of blankets and plush, it can be hard to make anything solid. Fortunately, all of the extra padding serves as an excellent way to practice individuality in other ways. Embroidering walls and pillows to signify them as one’s own is common, as is changing the colors of the lights in one’s room, the addition of plushies and stuffed animals, and creating piles of pillows to function as “sleep mountains”. Rooms can be stylized through the fabric used as well: color and style is an easy change, as is most of everything else. Privacy is a bit harder — but as long as you have a curtain to pull back over the front door, you’ll be just fine in keeping your things away from others.

Court of Pillows and Plush

Most system require some level of internal communication in order to make their needs known and establish rapport among fellow headmates. This is why the Court of Pillows and Plush is so important: without it, there would be no way for headmates to congregate and have talks amongst one another. Gentle light fills the entire room from top to bottom, allowing all parties to speak on level terms without having to fight to be seen.

Being made out of fabric, blankets, and soft pillows helps to soothe unruly headmates or those with a penchant for punching things. Pillows can’t exactly complain about being hit, now can they? Fellow headmates on the other hand… Well, perhaps it’s better to stick to pillow punching for now.

Lamplighter’s Workspace

Every individual light, every tiny piece of the headspace must be crafted and maintained. Thousands upon thousands of hours have gone into mastering the art of creating light. It is with these lights that the headspace flows and churns, able to keep up with the population of those who reside within it. Upon entering the Lamplighter’s Workshop, one is immediately struck by how bright it is. Motes of golden light hover and dance in the air, moving about from a simple touch of one’s fingers. Oak wood that makes up the Lamplighter’s desk is the only thing in this world not made of pillows and fabric. Trinkets and tools hang from the walls in an orderly fashion, filling up the drawers close to bursting. Other headmates may try their hand at creating new lights and altering the layout of this headspace… but without the role of architect or the prior permission of the Lamplighter, the tools can be somewhat uncooperative.

The Space Between

All of these comfortable, cozy places residing within one headspace… what a wonderful paradise. It raises the question, though: how does one travel between these places? What prevents headmates from getting lost among the sheets? The answer to these is simple: not all of these places are directly connected in the same tent. Some tents have open flaps that allow residents to dip into a Dark Zone known as The Space Between. These flaps offer direct routes to other locations, making for easy access to other spaces such as the Court or to Front.

The Space Between is pitch black and near impossible to see anything in. All that can be made out is the orange glow of other rooms and the starry night sky swirling overhead. It’s recommended to avoid staying in The Space Between for too long and stick to the shortest path lest you lose yourself among the stars. Rumors say that those who become lost may hear strange voices or clipped conversation from things they aren’t meant to remember… Surely that’s just a rumor and nothing more.

Extra: The Lamplighter

All things that are in existence have to have come from somewhere. The Lamplighter is that “somewhere”. It makes the light that spreads throughout the fabric walls of the headspace, spreading pieces of itself anywhere and everywhere to ward off the ever-encroaching reach of the night. It is akin to a minor deity within the bounds of headspace, keeping those who fear the dark safe. No headmates have ever seen the Lamplighter in person; in fact, some argue that it doesn’t even exist to begin with. If it does not exist, though… then who is constantly altering and maintaining this headspace?

Build a headspace series

A mountainous forest region

Name ideas: Woodland/misty/foggy basin, Forgotten Woods, Veiled Woods...

About: A woodland wonderland, hills surrounding a forested basin, various rivers winding down to meet at a central lake. Cabins are scattered about the area, typically connected by accessible pathways, however some remain disconnected. Zip lines and gondolas bring people up and down the mountains, mainly for entertainment. Caves and crevices dig deeply into the mountains.

Climate: Cool, misty most mornings and nights. Snows in the autumn and winter. Rains often throughout the year.

Services: cabins, well-made paths, bathrooms, hot springs, lake ferries, cafes, restaurants, a tavern or two, gondolas, zip lines, white water rafting, kayak hire, library/book swap.

Senses:

Smells of pine or other woods, rotting leaves and wood, coal and wood fires from the cabins. The fresh smell of the earth after rain, moisture from the mist filling your lungs.

Sounds of birds, perhaps woodpeckers (depends on what kind of birds you want here. Bellbirds are a nice one), wind rustling the trees, branches creaking in the wind, the occasional footstep and crunch of leaves or snow. People cutting wood in the distance.

Lighting is not too bright, dark in the deeper parts of the woods. Mist can make seeing difficult, dull lights light the walkways. The sun filters through the treeline.

Blackberries are sweet and tart, earthy mushrooms, the air is crisp as you breath in. Hot drinks of your liking, pine cone candy, hearty soups or stews.

Ground soft beneath the feet, wooden pathways slippery, stay on the safe parts. In winter the wooden walkways are frozen over, fun slides. Tree bark rough against the hands, cold air prickling the skin. River's waters are freezing year round and refreshing.

Aesthetics: dark naturalism, gloomcore cabincore, dark paradise, cryptidcore

Cafe and book swap

A cozy cafe where you can read and have food and drinks of your choosing. There may be several of these in the area, or just the one, depending on the size. There's a good hangout spaces for quieter people wanting to get out of the house.

Central lake

The lake in the center of the region. May be dotted with cabins, with a ferry across. Surrounded by woods. In full winter lake may freeze over enough to skate on. Perhaps in the depths of the lake, underwater species could make their home. Plenty of nice picnic spots.

Hot springs spa

A great place to relax, natural hot springs outside along with indoor private ones for those who want it. Sauna rooms and massage rooms also a good idea, with a place to get something to eat and drink as well. All sort of aromatherapy items and soaps are available.

> Daylight Tower

As you approach the spire, soft grass at your feet, sunlight hits the tower just right, illuminating the areas around you in gold. You hear a soft 'tick, tick, tick' as you walk closer. The tower's grey-white brick walls are lined with lively plants and still-spinning gears and other technological trinkets, despite its abandoned look. Is someone in here? The windows are up too high to see through, but the door is right there...

A tall, ticking tower that seems to hold the sun itself, perhaps the moon too, during the night. Daylight Tower is overrun with plants and small animals, yet it seems to tick on regardless. Perhaps this is where some important function takes place, or maybe it's just an abandoned building.

This is headspace inspiration! Feel free to change whatever you would like; I just do these for fun :-)

Someone's headspace can look vastly different from someone else's! Mine personally is an office building! But some else's could be a school, a circus, anything! Anything that helps reflect themselves and express what feels right ;P

Those who become disorders are not inherently bad! Anxiety is technically a disorder!

But while Anxiety is occasionally given to a nice mental hospital, there are some who were abused in an asylum that just made them worse.

The doctors in those hospitals are representations of meds... Anxiety basically got the meds that worked for her and envy and depression didn't.

This may be a dumb question and I’m gonna guess the answer is no because you run a fandom account lol, but does working behind the scenes of Sunny ruin the “magic” of it? I hope this makes sense lol

iv sort of answered this b4 but n a way i think it truly REVIVED the magic for me

if i worked on seasons from the iasip golden era id probs feel differently, and i lamented many many times over the years that i thought i could never work on sunny without ruining it for myself, but w th way th cards fell, i was already kind of on my way out of my hyperfixation on sunny by th time i got th job

i didnt love s13 and then s14 was v much like the final nail n th coffin nd my enjoyment rly faltered there, some stuff i liked but by n large i was like 'ok sunnys kind of over for me.'

before s13 it was more 'i love this season, except for 1 or 2 episodes" and after it became "i dont like this season, except for 1 or 2 episodes"

then, out of the blue getting to work on s15, even tho its still not one of my fave seasons, brought my love back in a completely new way. being able to interact with the cast and crew is magical on its own, and theres a level of pride that cuts through i guess? like 'yeah i remember this day. this day was hard. and now theres an entire episode out! and people liked it!'

theres also a disconnect with what i see happen at work and what actually airs. there are moments, sure, where i suddenly realize i know whats going to happen, but by and large im just as surprised as anyone else by the direction they take the editing. i also like to avoid reading the scripts we get and just let myself be confused. i truly still get to see episodes for the first time like you guys and i still get excited to find out wtf theyr about to do, its not unlike piecing together things seen in promos

like idk, @ th end of the day, everyone is just so nice, and ive met some of my literal favorite people on this earth on that job, and seeing the care and love that goes into what they're doing is an unmatched experience of my life and made me rly appreciate the show even more. rcg and the rest of the cast have all been so welcoming to me, and i love my camera team and th whole crew so much and cant believe how well we get on....im incredibly lucky

Loving and kind, dawn is a great co-host and friend. Though sometimes, caring so much about everyone and everything can be overwhelming for kit. Seventeen enjoys reading and writing, interior design, color theory, and the ocean.

The coconut collectives headspace takes form primarily as two houses near a beach that share a yard between them! The yard acts as a "fronting room", where the closer you are to it, the closer you are to front/controlling the body. Aesthetic inspo can be found here!

Basement / Sleepover Themed Front Room

Day Mode

During the day, this fronting room is a warm and shockingly spacious location despite how cozy everything feels. Pillows, blankets, and squishy stuffed animals litter the floor just about everywhere you step. Some pillows and blankets have been stolen away to a corner to make a comfortable nook for the less-social alters. Blankets serve as the roof and ceiling of this place, illuminated by strings of fairy lights and small glowing motes of sunshine streaming in from somewhere beyond the front room. If you put your head against the walls and listen close, you can sometimes make out idle conversation of memories that linger outside the bounds of headspace.

A large projector screen propped up in the front part of this room serves as a window to the outside world. This projector plays what is currently going on as well as providing subtitles for alters who are hard of hearing. Switching the subtitles on is surprisingly easy. The in-system subtitles can be finicky, lag a few seconds behind speech, and can sometimes get things wrong. Even still, alters frequently comment on how they give a nostalgic feeling similar to captions on older televisions.

Bodily actions and movements are controlled through use of the laptop computer connected to the projector. This laptop has a special switch on the side, making it able to change forms if needed. It is most often turned into a TV remote, but other forms may also be used.

Exiting the front room is as easy as walking out of the fort’s blanket flaps. Simple and easy!

Night Mode

You may be thinking “ah, this sort of fronting room can’t possibly be comfortable at night with all of these lights!” Not to worry! This fronting room has the ability to change its appearance based on the time of day. While it is well-lit and comfortable during the day, it becomes much calmer at night. Fairy lights and sunbeams are replaced with soothing swirling galaxy lights that cover the walls and roof in mesmerizing patterns. Blankets and pillows are automatically placed into pairs to create beds for those who linger near front or fall asleep mid-fronting.

The large projector screen is traded out for a smaller television that can be adjusted brighter or lower as needed. All other functions of the projector remain the same: subtitles, the ability to switch forms, and the familiarity of a laptop resting on your knees. One thing that does change is the room’s appearance. Rather than only being a blanket fort, there is also a small wooded area outside of the fort styled like a larger basement. It contains a comfortable couch to sit upon, an armchair, a side table lamp, and an ottoman on which to kick up your feet. This is perfect for alters who prefer to work on their own for system management during the night. Some folks claim there is an adjacent room for late night snacking but not everyone seems to be able to access this. Then again, it may be just a dream…

Build a headspace series

Radio station fronting room

About: A somewhat chaotic space where people in front may be able to broadcast external events to headspace, giving something for people to tune into. People may be able to call in for communication too.

Seating is comfortable enough to sit in for a long time. There's a break room in the corner with a coffee machine and a fridge with whatever people may need.

Radio equipment set up along the desks where the main fronters sit, buttons and dials for effects are based off needs. Could be possible to communicate with others via phone line or radios (example: an emergency radio frequency). Notice boards can be used to leave reminders, notes and pictures as desired.

Cool wooden floors, worn rugs underneath the seats. Walls are covered in shelving, equipment and notice boards. The state of the desk may change depending on who's using it, some people may be neat and some people may leave items strewn about. If possible, memory storage via tapes are in boxes on the shelves.

Climate: Warm, dry and a little dusty (unless someone cleans up).

Hey, so we’ll do our best to answer both of these questions and talk about boosting connection to your system’s headspace, and boosting communication between system members.

When it comes to connecting with your headspace, we’d like to share a couple links that might help -

We think this post ^ has some really handy and useful tips to help headmates connect with their headspace and visualize themselves within their headspace a bit better.

And as for boosting communication between system members… our best advice boils down to time, patience, practice, and self care.

Time: Most systems aren’t going to have amazing communication after just a few weeks of getting to know each other. We believe that for almost any system communication can improve, but it’s going to take time to get there. It could take anywhere from a few months to a few decades to get to a point where you can communicate with your headmates in the ways that you want to. So patience is key here.

Patience: Know that you might not be able to communicate perfectly with your headmates at first, and that’s okay. Don’t punish yourself or your system or talk down on anyone if y’all are getting frustrated, if it’s been a while since you’ve heard from each other, or if you’re feeling exhausted from spending too much time focusing on communication. Take breaks. Take deep breaths. Take things one day at a time. You’ll get there one day - don’t give up!

Practice: Try talking and listening to your headmates whenever you have the energy and cognitive bandwidth for it. Think about them, ask them how they’re doing, and just try to chat with them whenever you can. If things are hazy, foggy, or unclear, that’s okay. If you’re able to, we encourage you to just keep trying even when it’s difficult. Not every interaction between headmates will be distinct and crystal clear. Sometimes things get muddled or different headmates seem distant, and that’s okay. But the more your practice today, the easier it will be tomorrow. Practicing communication every day can help y’all build a solid foundation so that, say, one or two years from now, y’all may find that you’re in a much better place and communication comes much more naturally.

Self care: In our own system, communication becomes much more difficult when we are struggling to meet our own physical, mental, and emotional needs. So doing our best to look after our mind and body can really make a huge difference in the quality of our communication. We’ll go ahead and link our self care post here, in case y’all may find yourselves in a similar situation.

This is probably as much as I’m going to be able to say here for now. We could go on and on about internal communication, how to build on it, potential speed bumps or risks, and how it may look differently for different systems. Please don’t be too discouraged if y’all are still struggling with communication after a few weeks of daily practice - remember that communication is a skill just like any other, and it will take time to master.

So sorry if this response is rambly or muddled - we’re not feeling well today. But I do hope this helps you. Good luck with building communication and gaining a better understanding of your headspace in the future.

I arrived almost 12 hours ago, I've had two stupidly filling typical French meals, I've done too many loads of laundry than I'd like to admit because dryer, I've been spoiled with and am spoiling myself with coffee, my stress is diminishing, I got to read some great meta, and I'm chilling with Mara (who has numerous sleeping spots involving fuzzy blankets in this temporary repose, one of which being the fluffiest nest ever) while listening to and jamming out to Hugh Laurie leading the show in my ear. In other words, while yesterday was a time, I'm having a pretty darn nice time right now, because even if my back aches, my wrists are happier. Let's see if I can get any writing done on these 4/(5?) hours of sleep I've gotten in the last 48 hours, cause I'm pretty hype.
