I do not recommend bruised ribs. It is horrible. The healing time is 4-6 weeks. The pain is horrible. Finding a position to sleep that does hurt is horrible. Coughing one too many times makes the pain worse to the point of breathing hurts, moving hurts, walking hurts, simply existing hurts. So yea. Do not recommend.

so, this is part of the "Purgatorra" series, this is a 1st part of the prologue, dunno if there will be more after this; it will be a surprise if so. I will upload the recovery part later on.

Tom was inside the abandoned home, having been told to investigate this source of paranormal activity that spread outward, he Looked around, seeing nothing but ashes and skeletons around a decrepit home, or decayed--mummified remains that littered rooms covered in cobwebs and mold, the only living things in sight were small insects that littered floors, walls, and furniture. Tom had the radar on to check for where the strongest source of this supernatural power was. Eventually he found out, He headed to a desolate basement, creaky old wooden stairs and the sound of old rotted pipes, a hole covered up by floorboards, an odd enchanting glow emanating underneath the boarded up area. And as he neared it, A burst of light destroyed the boarded up area, and a hand reached up from the hole, the vivid peridot glow now visible, leaving flames and wisps of light surrounding the ground, Tom tried to leave; running up the stars, but he fell, hurting his ankle on the way down, as the being trapping him in there had shut the door and destroyed the stairs. “DON’T YOU DARE! I’VE GOT YOU IN MY CLUTCHES NOW!” The unknown being hissed, grabbing Tom by the hurt ankle. Tom tried to grasp onto the ground, digging his fingers down. The wraith saw this and grabbed one of Tom’s arms away from the ground “Don’t even think of tearing out those nails of yours, there’s no escape…” the wraith said, grabbing tom by the arm, throwing him into a support beam, nearly toppling the basement over with how strong the throw was. Tom was in pain; his ribs were broken--as was his ankle. He now felt the Wraith drag him near the edge of where the supernatural power source was coming from; He shouted into his walkie talkie, sending a message that something was dragging him in.. before the wraith grabbed ahold of him. “Your foolish hero is mine now…” before the wraith crushed the walkie talkie. Tom felt the now broken floorboard break even more as he tried to hold on, now falling into the vivid green glow, taking him downwards……..and down.. And down….

*CRASH*
Tom felt pain explode through his whole body, he opened his eyes now, seeing that he was strung up by the vines of a tree. He felt dizzy and his body ached a lot; his left shoulder aching like a bad case of acid reflux, His ankle and leg clearly broken, only being held up by a part of a tree. He heard voices, those far away from him; but even with a cry of pain and fear, he still felt the hope leave him; as he passed out…..

Actions=Consequences
Tw: bruised ribs, sort of mentioned drugging, pills, I don't think anything else
“Why didn’t you tell us about this thing earlier?” Caretaker asked Whumpee, with mild irritation in their voice.
“Because I didn’t think that it was a big deal.” That’s a big fat lie. Whumpee knew the consequences of not telling anyone. It’s just that they felt like a baby if they asked for help.
“Do you have any other injuries?” Caretaker looks down at the first aid kit. “Since we have that out.”
“No. Nothing that I can think of now.”
“Do you want some pain reliever for your ribs?” Caretaker glances at Whumpee's bruised rib cage.
“What?”
“Com’on, your ribs look like they were hit with a truck.”
“Oh, yeah. I’m fine.”
“Are you having any trouble breathing?”
“I’m okay.”
“I didn’t ask if you were okay. I asked if you had any trouble breathing.”
“Nope. My breathing skills are on point today.”
“Uh huh…” Caretaker silently strokes their black goatee. “I’m going to leave the bottle here, just in case.”
“Mhm, okay, well that will be unnecessary because I will not use them” Whumpee's eyes follow Caretaker’s hand as they sets the bottle of medicine on the coffee table. “Caretaker please, don’t bother. I won’t use them.”
The plastic bottle still hits the polished wood despite Whumpee's protesting. Caretaker’s palms rest on their knees as they look up at Whumpee. “And is there a reason for that?”
“No.”

Well that happened. Did you know I regularly have some kind of emergency on new years, my luck. Last year was pneumonia bruised ribs/muscles, year before that was the same. Prior to that year was a call to poison control... and so on ... the worst part is that I actively avoid things that could cause more dumb luck and I it's always something I cannot control 🤦🏼‍♀️
I had a scary day recently. I had a migraine that caused me to pass out, fall and hit my head. I had a very hard time with short term memory and spelling. I had an IV that malfunctioned though, so my blood came out. Thankfully they were amazing kept calm, dealt with it and I was totally chill. Best part is they didn't need to repoke! They gave me 3 massive tubes of medication though my IV.
I had an EKG and CT scan. I'm going for a halter test and seeing a specialist. My doctor is working with the pharmacy and my psych to double check my medication plan.
They are very worried about my heart and I still have a migraine, my sinus looked bad on the CT (shocking I know), brain looks healthy (for my disabilities) and I have thick skin (IV dude told me so). To top it off I now have a moderate concussion. Oh and bruised ribs again shocker....
If your barely holding on to the little bit of strength you have to fight a battle to not get pneumonia with my post nasal drip and weak immune system. At least we are in it together.
But hey I'm still kicking it and trying my best in this horrible world built by horrible people.

Febuwhump Day 28

Another alt prompt!
KILLING GAME
It was the first time Kallus had let Ezra go on a hunting trip by himself, and, well, it wasn’t exactly going as planned. He’d had some success catching smaller game – birds, rabbits, even a fox – but he’d need a larger kill if he hoped to get them enough meat for the lean months of winter. Unfortunately, the wolf that stalked towards him had the same idea.
Ezra stared at the large creature, bow and arrow trembling uselessly in his hands. There was no way he’d be able to kill this thing before it killed him, but he wasn’t just going to give up.
Steeling himself, Ezra took a deep breath, squared his shoulders, aimed, and, right as the beast lunged at him, he fired.
Ezra didn’t even look to see where, or if, his arrow struck it; he was too busy staring at the shape that came hurtling towards him, growing larger and larger until it was the only thing he could see. He raised one arm to defend himself before the animal was on top of him, pinning him to the ground and sending him crashing into sudden darkness
---
Ezra woke with a start, his mind filled with the images of fangs and claws and hungry eyes. He tried to breathe, but it was painful, and his head was pounding. That…that was a good thing, though. Right? It meant he wasn’t dead. But he was still surrounded by darkness, only it wasn’t as dark as it had been. He thought he could see stars above him and…was that firelight?
Turning his head with a groan, he saw a small campfire and a man sitting on the other side. He groaned again and closed his eyes, placing a hand on his head to feel bandages wrapped around it. He must have hit his head pretty hard. But that was the least of his worries.
“I guess this means I failed the test, right?”
“I’d say surviving is the ultimate test and so far you're managing that well enough.”
Ezra bolted straight up to his feet, ignoring his pounding head and protesting ribs. That had not been the voice he’d been expecting!
“Who are you?” he demanded, his voice more firm than he felt. He reached over to a nearby tree to steady himself as a wave of dizziness threatened to sweep him off his feet. The man stayed seated, unperturbed by Ezra’s outburst.
He looked to be about the same age as Kallus, maybe a little bit younger, and instead of blond sideburns, this man had a dark patch of beard on his chin while the long hair on his head was pulled back into a tight ponytail.
“Just someone passing by,” he answered. “I saw you lying underneath that wolf over there and figured you probably needed some help.
Ezra looked to where the man pointed and saw the wolf that had attacked him lying dead, an arrow sticking out of its mouth. His arrow. His eyes widened in shock. The man smiled.
“That was one helluva shot you made, kid,” he said, his green eyes studying Ezra’s face, his dissecting gaze making the teen feel decidedly unnerved.
“I have a good teacher.” He knew it was true, even if Kallus wasn’t the nicest person to live with, but the admission still made him rankle.
“The same teacher who leaves his student alone in the wilderness with only a bow and arrow to face down wolves as a test?”
“He didn’t know about the wolf,” Ezra shot back, not sure why he was defending the man he hated to this stranger.
The man held up his hands in surrender. “No need to get worked up. You’re in no condition for it anyway. Why don’t you sit down before you fall down, alright?”
He must look as terrible as he felt, Ezra realized. But he didn’t know who this man was or what he wanted, so he had every intention of staying on his feet in case he had to run.
The man smiled again. “You don’t need to be afraid of me,” he said, and Ezra briefly wondered if he could read minds. “If I wanted you dead, I wouldn’t have patched you up. So please sit down before you waste my hard work.”
He guessed it made sense, Ezra had to admit, slowly sitting back down and trying not to wince as his ribs ached. He felt a tugging on his left cheek and reached up to feel two thin, parallel cuts starting to scab over. Looked like wolf had given him a parting gift.
“Alright, so why did you help me? What do you want?”
“Who says I want anything?”
“No one helps others ‘just because’,” Ezra said firmly. “Everyone wants something.”
“Did your teacher tell you that?” Ezra didn’t answer. The stranger smirked. “So tell me,” he continued. “What is it you want?”
“What?”
The stranger shrugged. “You said everyone wants something.”
Thoughts of running away and being free of Kallus, free to do whatever he wanted swam around his head. But he wasn’t about to tell this man that.
“I want you to leave me alone,” Ezra spat, feeling a tugging in his gut that very much did not want that. He didn’t know what it was, but something about this stranger pulled at him, intrigued him. Not that he would admit that, of course.
The stranger sighed, but that smile still lingered around his lips. “Tell you what – I’ll stay through the night, make sure no other wolves come and decide you’d make a tasty midnight snack, and then in the morning, I’ll leave. Do we have a deal?”
Ezra stared at the man and couldn’t help seeing the sincerity in his face. That same feeling in his gut also said he could trust him, but his brain was telling him the opposite. Or maybe that was just Kallus’ teachings.
“Fine,” Ezra agreed, trying to ignore the relief he felt that the stranger wasn’t going to disappear just yet. “But aren’t you at least going to tell me your name?”
“Ah, so there are two things you want, huh?” he chuckled. Ezra glared at him. “It’s Kanan. Kanan Jarrus.”

How long can bruised ribs take to heal?
Tumblr media
Have you recently experienced the discomfort of a bruised rib and are wondering about the healing process? Managing a bruised rib involves limiting motion and gradually increasing activity. Seeking medical advice is crucial to ensure the injury isn't severe. This guide explores the factors influencing healing time, symptoms, and offers insights into navigating the recovery process.
The Bruised Rib Experience
Ribs, despite their thin appearance, play a vital role in protecting internal organs. A bruised rib occurs when blood vessels around the ribcage are damaged due to impact or injury, often resulting from accidents, falls, or intense coughing.
Symptoms of Bruised Rib
Symptoms of a bruised rib can be similar to a broken rib, including pain, tenderness, bruising, swelling, and breathing discomfort. Identifying these symptoms and seeking professional guidance is essential for effective care.
Factors Influencing Healing Time
Several factors influence the healing time of a bruised rib, such as the severity of the bruise, individual healing capacity, and prompt medical attention. Understanding these factors empowers individuals to manage their recovery effectively.
Typical Healing Timeline
While individual experiences may vary, a general healing timeline can be outlined:
First Week: Pain and discomfort are at their peak. Rest, ice packs, and pain relievers are recommended.
Second Week: Significant improvement is observed, with fading bruising and decreased pain.
Third Week Onward: Substantial relief is experienced, but complete healing may take several weeks. Avoiding activities that strain the ribcage is crucial.
Methods to Ease Pain and Discomfort
To expedite healing, individuals can follow these methods:
Rest and Avoid Strain: Allow the body time to heal by avoiding activities that worsen pain.
Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs can help manage pain during the initial days.
Gentle Movement and Breathing Exercises: Engaging in light movements and breathing exercises, as recommended by healthcare providers, can prevent stiffness and promote circulation.
Follow Medical Advice: Adhering to doctor-recommended guidance and attending follow-up appointments is essential for a smooth recovery.
When to Seek Medical Attention
While most bruised ribs heal with proper care, signs such as persistent or worsening pain, breathing difficulties, chest pain, or signs of infection may indicate the need for prompt medical attention.
In Conclusion
Healing from a bruised rib is a gradual process requiring patience and self-care. Individual variations are common, and understanding the healing process empowers individuals to navigate it effectively. If concerns arise, consulting with healthcare professionals ensures personalized guidance and prioritizes overall well-being during recovery.
