I have a Bachelor's in English and I will fight to the DEATH to keep romance novels and pure smut books ON THE SHELF AND AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. It's nothing to do with snobbery and EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE RIGHT TO SELF-EXPRESSION AND IDEOLOGICAL FREEDOM.

Censorship in any form should NOT be in the hands of politicians in the same way the building of rockets should not be in the hands of billionaires. The only censorship you should be practicing is this thing I've been harping on and on about called SELF-CENSORSHIP. It means that you can only decide what YOU THE INDIVIDUAL want to read, not anyone else. I'll be deadass honest, I HATED 50 Shades of Gray and couldn't finish it. I thought it was awful and put it down after four chapters. But I'll be DAMNED if I make it my place to say you cannot read and enjoy it. As a writer of plot-heavy sci-fi softcore romance myself, it behooves me to defend the right to read whatever trash you want because it may very well be one of my own works on the chopping block one day.

Writers and readers, this isn't about clout or talent or quality, this is about self-preservation. Your ability to think for yourself is on the line. We CANNOT, as the above says, sleepwalk ourselves into a Christofascist dictatorship of the mind. Now more than ever, it's critical to defend the books we hate as well as the ones we love, our libraries, and the right to create with no limits.

Yes. Not only am I having a hell of a time trying to find reference material, but I'm pretty sure this fear is part of what's holding me back in my writing even before I start sharing my work.

NSFW art, in any medium, is still art. Do I particularly enjoy NSFW Predator-based fanart? Not really, Yatuja aren't my type, but I can appreciate a good anatomical study of Mr Crabface. Somebody drew that, they actually sat down and made something that didn't exist and it looks amazing. I've read plenty of NSFW material that, while I'm not into things like breeding, bugs or vampires (like, at all - I'm a werewolf girlie), someone spent time on that and they should be allowed to share if they want. I would much rather see 5,000,000 drawings of boobs and dicks on my feeds than bland, inoffensive, slavishly unproblematic trash that has no soul. At least the artists who draw the Predator do it with some pizazz.

We need platforms to let us post NSFW shit without being afraid of being vaporised on the spot I am so serious about this.

Writing is a lot like drawing. Nobody churns out The Slav Epic without drawing a whole FUCKton of stick figures and dogs that look like potatoes. I feel this on a personal level right now - I want to write the next hit sci-fi romance novel and I keep pumping out My Immortal. I want to draw Planetes but all I got is a doodle of boobs on the back of a truck-stop bathroom door.
