Rewriting The Famous Five by Enid Blyton
I'm not really a lover of classic books since most of them make me sleep (and that's coming from a girl who loves reading more than socially interacting) but when I read the first book in the series of Enid Blyton's Famous Five, I instantly fell in love with the series. But we all got to admit, it does sound a lit old fashioned, but that doesn't change the adventures Julian, Dick, Anne and George get into to. So, I'm going to rewrite the story in my own modern twist. Enjoy!
So, first of all, the characters. I especially like George, the tomboy of the group. Her sassy, sometimes bratty, attitude speaks to me. She was the one I had the most ideas for. Her real name is Georgina, but she hates being a girl, so she goes by George. In my version, her name is Gina. Gina is still a tomboy but not that extreme like in the original books. She's sort of punk rock in my version. She likes wearing ripped jeans and Doc Martens and flannel shirts. She also plays guitar and always has the case hanging off her back. She's a musician, basically. In the series, she lives by the sea with her strict dad, Quentin and loveable mum, Fanny in a B&B. She usually spends her time swimming and fishing, so she probably rarely spends time online. Maybe she would only be on YouTube to watch music videos or post her own music videos. Gina is rebellious and adventurous. She's fiercely independent and doesn't conform to traditional gender roles.
Next is Julian. I've changed his name to Jay. He is he responsible and protective leader of the group. He's smart, resourceful, and always ready to take charge in tricky situations. Jay has a clen cut look, often wearing casual but stylish clothes. Think jeans, sneakers and a cool jacket. He's into tech and gadget, always tinkering with something new. Jay is also a budding coder and loves solving puzzles.
Next is Dick, whose name is clearly...um, not in line, if that makes sense, so his name would be Dillan. He is the joker of the group, always ready with a witty comment or a prank. He's brave and loyal, never backing down from a challenge. Dillan has a laid-back style, often seen in graphic tees, cargo shorts and skate shoes. Dillan is an avid skateboarder and loves extreme sports. Dillan also has a knack for photography, capturing their adventures on his camera.
Now time for Anne. In my version, her name would be Annie (yes, like the musical). Annie is the creative and nurturing one. She's kind-hearted, empathetic, and often the peacemaker in the group. Annie has a trendy, boho-chic style, with flowy dresses, headbands and lots of accessories. She's a singer and influencer, with a popular YouTube channel where she posts covers, vlogs and lifestyle content. Annie is also in DIY crafts and fashion.
As for Timmy the Dog, he could be a mixed breed rescue dog. He has a scruffy, lovable look with a mix of brown and white fur. Maybe he wears a cool bandana or a custom collar with a GPS tracker. He is loyal, brave and always ready to protect his owners. He's also a very intelligent dog that can understand complex commands. He also has an uncanny sense of direction, making him invaluable during their adventures.
As for the setting, the main places in the shows are quite varied but often revolves around rural and coastal locations in England. The key settings are Kirrin Island and Kirrin Cottage. In my version, Kirrin Cottage is nestled in the charming, vibrant beachside town of Seaside Cove and is now a trendy bed-and-breakfast run by Gina's parents. It's a mix of old-world charm and modern amenities, attracting tourists from all over. It has been renovated with a blend of rustic and contemporary design. Think cozy interiors with modern touches, like smart house features and eco-friendly materials. Guests can enjoy beach activities, local festivals and music events. The cottage might host small concerts or art shows, reflecting Gina's musical interests.
So their adventures may be like:
In the modern seaside town of Seaside Cove, Gina, Jay, Dillan, Annie, and their loyal dog Timmy embark on thrilling adventures that blend technology, environmental activism, and local culture.
Jay’s discovery of a mysterious signal from an abandoned tech hub leads the group into a high-stakes investigation involving stolen technology and corporate espionage. Their environmental quest begins when they uncover illegal dumping in a protected marine area, prompting them to gather evidence and expose the culprits through social media campaigns.
During a local music festival, Gina’s performance is jeopardized by a theft, and the group must find the missing equipment before the big show. Urban exploration takes them to an old warehouse rumored to be haunted, where they uncover hidden tunnels and a secret society.
A beachside treasure hunt starts with an old map found during a cleanup, leading them on a puzzle-filled adventure around Seaside Cove. When Annie’s friend becomes a victim of cyberbullying, the group uses their tech skills to track down the bully and promote online safety.
Lastly, they rescue an injured dolphin, working with local wildlife experts to rehabilitate it and learning about marine biology along the way. Each adventure showcases their unique skills and deepens their bond, making their modern escapades as exciting and heartwarming as the original Famous Five tales.
So yeah, that's my rewrite. Thanks for reading! Pls like, share and comment!

grief will make you do crazy things. it will electrify the elegant, flower-stem neurons in the amygdala of your brain, will pluck them like an instrument. in ancient rome, grief made men twirl in their thin, leather sandals and pirouette until their feet bled; in india, it walked widows onto pyres waiting for fire. the persians gave the bodies of their deceased beloveds to dogs; the egyptians buried them with their servants. grief will make you laugh at the funeral, weep over the cereal bowl; it will buzz your feet until they start dancing in the middle of the night. it’s grief that inspires the unlikeliest of bedfellows. it will convince you, tugging at the hem of your ragged cotton robe — the one you’ve had since your father bought it for you in latakia when you were fifteen, the one that will always smell hazily of summer — that the building is on fire, the world is on fire, and you’ll only find water in one place: a city as far away from here as you can imagine. grief will pack your bag, quit your job, buy a white dress. it will make you say yes.
the arsonists’ city, hala alyan

im going crazy with how people are starting to agree with snow that sejanus was really stupid and deserved what was coming to him. reading the books first should be a pre requisite to the movie idcccc if that takes away the wider audience, the wider audience all have smooth brains anyway.
“why was he colluding with rebels when he could’ve just thought about it pragmatically 🙄” i’m in your fucking walls. sejanus was never dumb, snow just kept pushing that perception of him through the book to deflect the fact that sejanus was an actual good person. snow thought himself the personification of good and benevolence, which was why everything he did had to have some half-assed excuse as to why he was justified in doing it. it was why he was actually tweaking in the woods when lucy gray left him, because he wanted to rid himself of her but he didn’t have an actual reason so he convinced himself of the most random scenario ever to justify trying to shoot at her. so we can establish that snow was an evil broke boy who clearly wasn’t good— then sejanus was a direct confrontation of snow’s own shortcomings towards that (i don’t think i have to detail how sejanus was genuine, it was obvious). coriolanus and sejanus are like the direct opposite characters of each other, and snow knew and took pride in this to an extent. which is why snow couldn’t admit that sejanus was good to himself, thus sejanus was deemed ‘stupid’ to protect his own deluded self actualisation (but this also includes other aspects like how the war made the plinths rich and the snows poor, leading to resentment and jealousy from snow).
“but that still didn’t mean he wasn’t doing dumb things throughout the book” was it really that dumb? a rebellion will always include some level of risk but i don’t hear anyone calling heavensbee stupid because it actually worked out for him. plus sejanus is district, so if we use our common sense of who he is as a character and emotional intelligence of his situation, it’s pretty easy to see why he would get in touch with rebels. he’s literally always yearned for the districts, he never once cared about his money or safety, which isn’t stupid, it’s sad. this was his way of dealing with the guilt of profiting from his people’s suffering— again, not stupid. you could argue he was reckless, especially when he went into the arena, but most people who simply cast him as a ‘dumb character’ ignore how troubled he is and fall into the very filtered lens of snow who was just concentrating on his stupidity.
sejanus’ growing radical actions had nothing to do with stupidity and everything to do with feeling helpless and like nothing was changing. he tried minor/low-risk things such as attempting to change the perception of the districts in the capitol, advocating against the hunger games etc etc. of course it didn’t work, so his options grew limited to more radical courses of action. its a natural line of thought— activists literally do it in real life when they feel as if their cause isn’t getting enough attention (eg. setting themselves on fire). sejanus is a desperate character who is so selfless in light of snow’s constant self-preservation. snow will always put himself first and be paranoid that he will be betrayed like he’s betrayed others, so he never understands sejanus’ disposition to help and trust people, so he labels him dumb. omg. like. sejanus is so not-stupid i’m actually gonna start freaking out!! this is defamatory leave my boo alone!! plz go read a book and work on media literacy i am begging!!!

LINK -> A Ballad of Thorns & Roses: How the High Lord of Spring Tells his Tale
by positivelyruined 🌹🍃🎻
links: Ao3 | original writing blog | WriterGram
Summary: When Tamlin, the High Lord of the Spring Court of Prythian, finds the clock counting down to his final battle with Amarantha — two things push him into action: the sudden death and bloody sacrifice of his friend Andras and the fierce vexation of his close friend Lucien. With no more time to waste, he offers shelter to the one person that he should despise the most — the girl who murdered Andras. His heart has been bleeding for a decade. Will their connection be enough to break the bond that holds the Spring Court captive, or will this burning love only spurn Tamlin’s heart? In this tale as old as time, only time will tell. 🌹
Shoutouts: big thank you to both of my original fans and betas, @tamlinfairchild and @lorcandidlucienwill who have both dealt with endless message spam, ten thousand questions, and my endless protection and fascinations with this character. also to @sonics-atelier who will be writing poetry for this epic in the long run. 👏👏👏
also a shoutout to the entire #proTamlin community | I’m glad to know that even if I am insane, at least I’m not alone.
for a lot of people, this will be my debut into the community (although I’ve written a handful of small things). but in short, I answer to cece, alex, ‘hey you over there’ and anything generally nice. 👋 I am twenty-seven and have been writing around fifteen years. 📝 I hope you all enjoy this exercise in mindbending and my journey into fixing everything SJM broke by…writing these books.

Prelude (Elucien Week Preview)
Tumblr media
Summary: One moment. All it takes is one singular moment to change the trajectory of fate. Following the events of Hybern, everything changes when Lucien instinctively grabs his mate—Elain Archeron—and brings her back to the Spring Court with Feyre and Tamlin.
In the midst of war and ruin, Elain and Lucien will have to face the bond that connects them together if they hope to survive the unintended consequences. To do so, they’ll have to prevail through games of deceit, powerful forces of magic, and deadly enemies. And hope their hearts survive the journey.
A retelling of A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR) and a Canon Divergent AU.
Notes: This is my big project for Elucien Week 2024! I'm posting a short prelude a week early in excitement for the first seven chapters which will be posted daily for @elucienweekofficial and will continue updating weekly afterward. This will closely follow the book's events and feature Elain/Lucien POVs.
Read on AO3
Lucien suddenly landed in the gravel of the Spring Court’s front drive. It was only at the sound of Feyre’s voice, a near growl, a sharp blade against the gentle air of blooming Spring, that Lucien realized his hand was gripped around a delicate wrist. “What did you do?” She snapped at him.

So I’ve seen people making the argument that Percy canonicaly isn’t dumb + Sally taught him the myths, so it makes sense he’d recognize the monsters, and I’d like to put my two cents in.
Yes, Percy isn’t dumb, he’s an unreliable narrator who downplays himself because he’s not book smart like Annabeth. However, his smarts are more of the quick thinking on his feet and street-smart kind, which come out when he’s fighting and figuring out a way to defeat his foe. And yet. And yet we don’t get to see that in the show much at all, at least not Percy alone being the one to think up a strategy. And it takes away from his character.
“But Sally taught him the myths, of course he’d recognize the monsters-“ let me stop you right here. Because yes, it’s great Sally taught him, but she didn’t-couldn’t teach him how the monsters adapted to the modern world. Because that’s all the books are - myths brought into the modern world, myths adapted to the modern world, so that the demigods would have to display just as much skill needed to defeat the monsters as their ancient predecessors.
If you’re still not convinced, let me direct your attention towards this quote from The Chalice of the Gods, because there’s one more aspect a lot of people seem to disregard completely, and that is the Mist:
Tumblr media
Even demigods need to concentrate to see whatever supernatural beings the Mist is hiding in plain sight. Even demigods can be easily fooled into thinking a monster is just a normal person.
We can also see that in the book Medusa scene, where it’s pretty heavily implied some sort of magic that affects both Percy and Annabeth is at play. They don’t immedietally connect the dots, which allows the reader to think for themselves who could this new character be and what their deal is. And the demigods are not any less smart for not immediately recognizing whatever foe stands before them, because the monsters have adapted and no longer are the complete same as they are in the myths, which is something neither the camp nor their mortal parents would be able to teach them. The camp cannot prepare them for how different the monsters and their tactics are.
I do think this could have been fairly easily portrayed in the show. You could have the show Annabeth and Percy be suddenly drowsy/sleepy when meeting Medusa, you could have Percy recognize Crusty after he’s already trapped Annabeth and Grover - he could suddenly remember Sally telling him the story, which would allow the audience to hear what the deal is here, and then have Percy manipulate + kill him.
So yeah. I hope this makes sense. Because I’m so tired of hearing “well it makes sense they recognized the monsters instantly” when no, it does not.
