Danganronpa has too many characters so I'll be tackling the "How'd you render their names in Ace Attorney style of name translation" question one game at a time. Here's for DR1.
Please send different ideas if you have them.
Makoto Naegi
Calqued meaning for Naegi: Sapling
Calqued meaning for Makoto: Honesty
Explicit functionality: In Ishimaru's introduction, he praises the meaning of Naegi's given name, so it must explicitly represent a virtue Ishimaru believes in.
Implicit functionality for Naegi: The meaning of Naegi contributes to giving off the image that he's Small Guy Little the Most Harmless Creature In The World. Also ties in with Makoto's and Komaru's image colors being green and brown.
Implicit functionality for Makoto: Truth-adjacent name because he's an investigative VN protagonist.
Realism level: Both names exist.
Futureproofing needs: Naegi is a surname he shares with Komaru, so it needs to be a name that also works for her. Swapping name and surname to get something more usable is often an option but not here. Whatever Naegi becomes needs to still be the surname because of Komaru.
Explicit functionality is always the priority, so Makoto needs to become something like Ernest or Truman. Truman is a name that feels like it needs to be saved for V3, but at first glance, there isn't anyone there who really fits it.
Bush is a real name that connects the small and the green, but it doesn't give off a tone of harmlessness thanks to a few Georges. Stuart Little has me under the impression that Little is also a real surname but it's missing the green aspect. Green is another real name with the opposite problem.
Out of all our options, I'd go with Truman Green for our protagonist, mainly because Green sounds convenient for Komaru's naming needs. I won't settle on a name for Komaru ahead of DRAE's turn because this sounds like a bonus challenge more difficult than any of the mandatory tasks, but at least I'm confident I won't need to come back and change this one later.
Sayaka Maizono
Calqued meaning for Maizono: Dance Garden
Calqued meaning for Sayaka: Not determinable because Sayaka doesn't have kanji but Sayaka generally means dazzling, clear, or audible and her DR2 swordsmanship scroll present spells her name with kanji meaning "Scabbard Flower".
Explicit functionality: A sword-themed present in DR2 is named after her.
Implicit functionality for Maizono: A dance garden sounds like a metaphorical name for a stage.
Implicit functionality for Sayaka: An intriguing mix of direct meanings and ironies. Dazzling alludes to the classic metaphor of idols as shining stars, clear is ironic with how she hides her feelings most of the time, and audible is both. Direct in how Japan is listening to her songs and ironic in how she became an idol because her father wouldn't give her any attention.
Realism level: Fictional but so believable that another game already used this exact name 12 years before Danganronpa did (that's what DR2's sword scroll is referencing)
This is a rare case where we can ignore the explicit functionality if we want to. Claire is a popular given name that conveniently covers all meanings of Sayaka, makes a musical reference through Claire de Lune (another case of a name that would hit differently in V3 but doesn't fit anyone in its cast), and could be used in a sword flash allusion. Dance is a real English surname but it feels too untouched, so I'd Frenchify it into Danse, matching with the French origins of Claire. Claire Danse it is.
Leon Kuwata
Calqued meaning for Kuwata: Mulberry fields
Calqued meaning for Reon/Leon: Clever Gratitude
Explicit functionality for Kuwata: He says in a Free Time Event that he wants to be like the star vocalist Kuwata Keisuke and not like the baseball star Kuwata Masumi.
Explicit functionality for Leon: Needs to be mistaken with numbers when written upside-down, preferably in a foreign alphabet.
Implicit functionalities: Honestly, none. Both names are very in-your-face about why they were chosen.
Realism level: Leon written in kanji is a name that exists nowadays but I can't find evidence that it predates Danganronpa.
The Kuwatas quote can be done with Axl Rose and Pete Rose.
A lazy solution to Leon is keeping it as Leon and helping the puzzle's difficulty level by making Claire Danse's calligraphy suck. There's no authentic way to redo that puzzle, but the closest option is having her write Greek. It's an alphabet recognizable enough to a Western audience even nowhere nearly as recognizable as the Roman alphabet is to a post-Americanization Japanese audience.
Our Greek alphabet tools are 1=I or Ī¹ =I or i, 2=Ī¶=z, 3=Ī¾=x, 3=Ī• or Īµ=E or e, 4=Ī·=h or e or i, 4=Ī  or Ļ€=P or p, 6=an ugly Ļ†=f, 8=an ugly Ī˜ or Īø=th, 0=ĪŸ or Īæ=O or o, and 0=Ļƒ=s. That gives us genuinely subtle and believable options like Fox spelled 306 or Seth spelled 038.
Seth makes for the better puzzle, but going on vibes and the believability level of a Japanese Leon, I'll go with Fox Rose.
Chihiro Fujisaki
Calqued meaning for Fujisaki: Blossom of False Binarism
Calqued meaning for Chihiro: Thousand Depths (poetic term for "1.8288 kilometers")
Explicit functionality: Gender-neutral name.
Implicit functionality for Fujisaki: The unique kanji choice for the name is probably there for the computer theme since TRUE/FALSE responses and binary codes are popular programming motifs.
Definitely accidental functionality for Fujisaki: The Japanese word for nonbinary has nothing to do with this, but it's curiously serendipitous that Fujisaki has a negative binary in his name. A strong irony since a huge part of his personal tragedy happened because his gender views were extremely binary.
Probably accidental functionality for Chihiro: Chihiro was originally a male name but became more commonly perceived as a feminine name since the release of the film Spirited Away. Assuming Danganronpa 1 is set in 2012, Fujisaki would be 8 years old when the movie came out, and that could be what inspired his idea in-universe.
Realism level: Fujisaki is a real name when written with kanji meaning "Cape of Wisterias". The "False Dualities" version is Danganronpa-original. Chihiro is a common name, however.
Futureproofing needs: Chiaki is named after him, so it's better to make the decision for Chiaki now. Chihiro means "thousand depths" as a poetic unit of distance and Chiaki means "thousand autumns" as a poetic unit of time. The space and time duality is not relevant to their characters (it's a false binarism, if you will) so it's only important here that they have subtly contrasting names.
Chihiro is hard to narrow down because any unisex name technically fits. Cody is a unisex name that covers Fujisaki's computer motifs, so that would allow the surname to be entirely dedicated to matching Nanami's but that would just shift the "can't narrow it down" problem to the surname.
Wikipedia's page for unisex names has this nifty list of names grouped by theme, so we can pick Chihiro and Chiaki as a pair of unisex names from the same group. I can't explain why, but having them both named after months, birds, or Kingdom Hearts feels right.
Tumblr media
Month route: I'll go with August for Chihiro since that works best with Chihiro's masculine origins. Chiaki could be October to nod to the autumn meaning of her original name but that's not really relevant and October is really ugly as a person's name. May works for her because aside from being a month, it's a word associated with potential.
Bird route: Phoenix works for Chihiro because Alter-Ego is sorta like a revival. Phoenix is also a funny nod to how Chihiro is Mia Fey's name. Chiaki since the name Nanami reflects the tropicality of Jabberwock Island, she should have a tropical bird name and Starling is the only tropical bird name that doesn't suck as a human name as far as I can remember.
Kingdom Hearts route: The Nanami name kinda dictates that Chiaki becomes Kairi here, which works for me, but I'm not feeling any of the Chihiro options. I'm not calling him Marluxia.
Pheonix Pewter feels like the best option, stealing an idea for a computer-themed name from Uchikoshi, but going with the bird route locks me out of using bird names for anyone other than Fujisaki and Nanami. That's a huge resource to lose. I gotta think about the name economy to continue this project long term. On the other hand, losing access to month names for everyone else is not a considerable loss. I'll stick with August Pewter for now but I might come back to this one later.
Touko Fukawa
Calqued meaning for Fukawa: Rotten River
Calqued meaning for Touko: Winter Girl
Calqued meaning for Shou: Fly
Explicit functionality for Shou: The investigators gave a generic male name to the serial killer because they hadn't figured out she's a girl.
Explicit functionality for Fukawa: Shou makes a pun with the name Fukawa since she's fujoshi (lit. "rotten girl").
Intertextuality for Touko: Fukawa's name, talent, and braids are references to Tooko Amano, the protagonist of the Book Girl series.
Implicitly functionalities: None that I can think of. I guess Touko is not a sunny name so it doesn't clash with her gloomy vibe.
Most likely accidental functionality for Touko: The name Touko means "Winter Girl" and the name Fuyuhiko means "Winter Boy" but they don't have any onscreen interactions or major parallels.
Realism level: Fukawa exists with different kanji (more commonly meaning "deep river") but the Rotten River version is made up. Derogatory words don't tend go in real surnames. Touko is a super common name for girls born in the winter.
I'll start with the obvious. Genocide Jack does everything that needs to be with Geno's name. The loc also invents "Jill" because she's a girl but I'll ignore that and keep our Jack as comfortable with her ostensibly masculine name as she is in the original. Now letā€™s go to what needs the bare minimum of original thought.
Touko can stay as Winter, but I'd prefer using winter in another language just to be less lazy about it. Zima is winter in most Slavic languages and is a real surname. We can work with this if we make our first swap here. Derive the family name from the name Touko and the given name from Fukawa.
So we need a given name that works with the fujoshi pun, which came to me surprisingly easy. Blair -> BL-er. The Blair Witch Project being a big and influential thing also helps putting the necessary gloomy vibes to Blair Zima's name.
Byakuya Togami
Calqued meaning for Togami: Ten Gods
Calqued meaning for Byakuya: White night (as in the astronomical term)
Explicit functionalities: None as far as I remember.
Implicit functionalities: Sounding fucking awesome.
Realism level: Both extremely rare names that technically exist.
This is honestly a little too anything goes, which makes it more difficult than having tight specifications to work with. I'll tentatively go with Artorius Decatheo. Artorius is tryhard version of Arthur, so there's the kingly image association, and shares its word root with Arctic, making a nod the place where the midnight sun (byakuya) happens. Decatheo is just Ten Gods in Greek.
Mondo Oowada
Calqued meaning for Oowada: Fields of Yamato
Calqued meaning for Mondo: Crest Earth
Calqued meaning for Daiya: Big A (as in the letter A from Roman alphabet)
Explicit functionality for Daiya and Mondo: Daiya's gang was named Crazy Diamond after Daiya (Dia) and Mondo (Mond).
Intertextuality for Daiya and Mondo: Their gang name alludes to Crazy Diamond, the Stand of Josuke Higashikata, a character who emulates Japanese delinquent aesthetics in homage to a stranger who saved his life.
Implicit functionality for Oowada: Bousouzoku were a particularly ultranationalistic subculture and having surname containing Japan's "most Japanese" name is probably supposed to reflect that.
Implicit functionality for Daiya and Mondo: A big stereotype about Japanese delinquents from the 90s and 2000s is that they later had kids with ridiculous names often formed by slapping rare kanji together to forcibly form an English word with it. Daiya and Mondo are key examples of these tacky and stupid "son of ex-delinquents" name.
Realism level: Oowada is not a too uncommon surname. Daiya and Mondo really sound made up but Kodaka says he studied with real people named that.
Ok, this one is extremely Japanese both in content and structure. There are too many factors to reasonably really on easy equivalence strategies, we have to play bold. I can exploit the delinquent trend of forcing English names into Japanese and flip it to represent another subculture, albeit a much younger and still developing one. I'm talking about punk weebs. We solve the Jojo reference issue by directly naming Daiya "Jotaro" and Mondo "Josuke".
Special thanks to the punk guy in my city with the baby named Sasuke. You help me here in a manner very fittingly similar to how the brothers Daiya and Mondo from Kodaka's school helped him.
Now for Oowada I don't have a neat solution. American biker gangs had the same origins as their Japanese counterpart (WWII veterans failing to properly reintegrate post-war) and the consequences of that to the subculture (macho patriotism) were the same. But American bikers love using hell and crime as motifs in their names and aesthetics, and somehow Hellman is a real and common surname, so I suppose Josuke Hellman fits. I'm waiting for better ideas in the comments.
The gang name can stay Crazy Diamond in theory, but I think I'd prefer renaming it to Shining Diamond as jokeful nod to Jojo's silly localization practices. I also considered renaming it to Star Platinum since Daiya is Jotaro Hellman now, but I think keeping the name Crazy Diamond-derived is a better fit with how Daiya created the gang for Mondo's sake. (And, on a meta level, with how Mondo/Josuke is the main character among the two)
Kiyotaka Ishimaru
Calqued meaning for Ishimaru: The Stone
Calqued meaning for Kiyotaka: Many Summers Purified
Explicit functionality: None unless you count the Ishida thing.
Implicit functionality for Ishimaru: The Stone carries an idea of solidity and rigidness, which is reflected in Ishimaru's personality.
Implicit functionality for Kiyotaka: Pure vibes, but I think the names Kiyotaka, Toranosuke, and to a lesser extent Takaaki, are all names you can tell come from a traditional family.
Implicit functionality for Ishida: Both Oowada and Ishimaru are decently uncommon names, but when they combine, they form the ridiculously common name Ishida and that's the kind of name joke Kodaka likes a lot.
Realism level: See above for the surname and fusion name. Kiyotaka is a name that exists with different kanji but the version meaning "Many Summers Purified" is unique to Danganronpa.
Starting from the disclaimer: I will not be using the meaning of Ishimaru's name as an excuse to call him Dwayne or Johnson. It's tempting but I promise to restrain myself.
Anyway, the parts using his real names are pretty loose, so we start from Ishida joke as the best place to narrow things down. Oowada being Hellman could have easily segued into a generic surname ending in -man, but in English, it's a lot more natural for people to introduce themselves by their given names, hence why Ishida became Kiyondo into the loc, so I'll work with their first names too.
We're obviously out of options for a notoriously generic English name ending in -suke, so we'll have to take the Jo- from Josuke (Mondo). Since I have Jojo in the brain right now thanks to Mondo, the easiest solution is merge this Jo into Kiyotaka=Nathan to form Jonathan. It works pretty neatly.
The surname doesn't matter as much so I'll take the lazy route on this one. Stone is a real English surname, so The Stone will be Stone. Nathan Stone, that's our guy.
Hifumi Yamada
Calqued meaning for Yamada: Mountain Fields
Calqued meaning for Hifumi: One Two Three
Explicit functionalities: None as far as I remember.
Implicit functionality for Yamada: Satou, Tanaka, and Yamada are the most common Japanese surnames (with I believe Yamada being at the first place at the time of DR1's release), so they're often used in fiction for jokes about names being generic, like how English does with Smith and Doe. Hifumi Yamada's case is about Kodaka liking to pair the goofiest first names with the most generic surnames.
Implicit functionality for Hifumi: His pen name as a doujin author is The Alpha and the Omega, which reflects his name being the first 3 numbers and his birthday being the last day of the year (which is also written using the numbers one, two, and three, but let's not make this harder than it needs to be).
Realism level: 100% the name here with the biggest chance of existing.
Alph Smith is the obvious perfect pick but it feels too easy and too on-your-face. I'd rather go with Uno Smith, that's a real name apparently.
Celestia Ludenberg
Calqued meaning for Yasuhiro: Cheap and Widespread
Calqued meaning for Taeko: Girl of Many Blessings
Explicit functionality for Celestia Ludenberg: Racefaking as white European so poorly that any random shmuck instantly recognizes her name as borderline parodical.
Explicit functionality for Yasuhiro: Her family name is homophonous with Hagakure's given name.
Implicit functionality for Yasuhiro: Cheap and Widespread represents the featureless normie she originally was and the total antithesis of who she wants to be.
Implicit functionality for Taeko: It alludes to how she describes her luck as the active crux of her talent, which ties into [long ramble about her parallels with Makoto].
Realism level: Celestia Ludenberg is a joke of a name even for in-universe standards. Taeko Yasuhiro is perfectly believable, if a bit uncommon.
Celestia Ludenberg is perfectly fine as it is. Grace and Hannah are names meaning something close enough to the "blessings" in Taeko. I'd favor Hannah because Kodaka went out his way to pick the rarer name Taeko over the common Megumi which would have had the same implicit functionality.
Now Yasuhiro needs to be both a surname and a male given name. Luckily, English is a language full of those. As you see below, the meanings of Hagakure's name don't matter that much, so I want prioritize "cheap and widespread" as the core idea of their shared name. This immediately brings me to the names Norman and Jean-Eric, but neither of them works as surnames or fit Hagakure's vibes. Meanwhile, Mondaine looks too French for its purpose being contrary to Celes's ideals and maybe doesn't work as a given name.
Cutting a lot of unproductive thought short, trying to look at things primarily from the "cheap and widespread" angle gave me nothing, but giving more consideration to the meaning and realism level of Hagakure's name, I found a satisfactory answer. I'll explain my logic better on Hagakure's side, but my adaptation of Taeko Yasuhiro is Hannah Arcadian. Arcadism is about romanticizing the farm life of humble peasants, so it fits well as the antithesis to her Celes identity built upon romantization of the castle life of opulent nobles.
Yasuhiro Hagakure
Calqued meaning for Hagakure: Concealed by Leaves (more notably, this is the title of a 1716 book historically considered the most influential manual on the samurai lifestyle)
Calqued meaning for Yasuhiro: Tranquility Comparable to the LĆ¼ Musical Scale (the equivalent to this in Western music notation is the Myxolidian scale)
Explicit functionality for Yasuhiro: His given name is homophonous with Taeko's family name.
Implicit functionalities: Both of his names leave a strong impression. Motifs very specific to Japanese history, delivered with distinct and powerful vibes of antiquity. Yasuhiro Hagakure is a name that suggests deep roots. I have a good post about how roots relate to Hagakure's and Celes' characters, you should check it.
Realism level: lol, lmao even. Hagakure is not a real family name. Yasuhiro is a very common given name with dozens of versions, but Hagakure's version makes a point to use the most ancient kanji it can fit, genuinely Heian poetry stuff, creating a version of Yasuhiro that doesn't exist in real life.
Well, I already told you about Arcadian. It's a name that fits in the "tranquility" meaning of Yasuhiro, and the name's overall appeal to classic literature associations to the point of unrealism. It doesn't tie too greatly with his character, but neither does the Japanese original. I'm pretty sure this name was chosen for Celes first and then just randomly slapped appropriate 10th century kanji.
That said, Yasuhiro Hagakure manages to have the most distinctively Japanese name in the series that has a guy named Korekiyo in it, so I think it would be appropriate for his Americanized counterpart to still have one (1) Japanese name. I considering picking a notable family name from the Heian period, maybe Abe or Minamoto, perhaps even Tsuchimikado in reference to Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro, but ultimately I decided to go with Arcadian Emishi to value Hagakure's identity as a hairy man of Touhoku.
Sakura Oogami
Calqued meaning for Oogami: Great God
Calqued meaning for Sakura: Not determinable because Sakura doesn't have kanji but Sakura generally means cherry tree or cherry blossom.
Explicit functionality: People familiar with her martial artist carreer are more likely to know her by the nickname Ogre, derived from the Ooga part of her real name.
Implicit functionality for Oogami: Sounding fucking awesome.
Implicit functionality for Sakura: Cherry blossoms are the flowers most commonly associated with refined femininity in Japanese flower language and that's a really important part of Sakura's identity. The use of hiragana instead of kanji also adds to the image of traditional femininity.
Realism level: Sakura is an extremely common name. Oogami is one of Japan's oldest surnames, tied to an ancient clans of priests and sorceres dedicated to worship of Ookuninushi, but the surname is rare nowadays because most of the clan changed their surname to Miwa in 648. Even then, I'd be surprised if no real person was ever named Sakura Oogami.
This was easier than I thought. Mary naturally comes an answer for Sakura's equivalent to the idea of "most common and tradiotinally feminine name ever". The Oogami/Ogre wordplay was a bit more of challenge. I really wanted to work Ogre in English too, but I still don't have any ideas. I know the Yugioh Vrains dub used the anagram Gore for its ogre-themed character, but I think this lacks the solemnty Oogami has.
Luckily, one of the ogre's closest equivalents is the orc, a creature with a name that easily strecthes into Orcus, the name of the Roman god of oaths. Orcus is also syncretized with Hades, which is a god that really fits with Sakura's sense of responsibility and characterization based on being less scary than she superficially looks, aside from being a lord of the underworld like the Ookuninushi historically tied with the Oogami name. I'm very satisfied with Mary "Orc" Orcus.
Aoi Asahina
Calqued meaning for Asahina: Morning sun? (Note: the question mark is actually part of the meaning, not an indication that I'm unsure about the translation)
Calqued meaning for Aoi: Hollyhock
Explicit functionality: None as far as I remember.
Implicit functionality for Asahina: The morning sun as a symbol of cheerfulness.
Implicit functionality for Aoi: Her name is homophonous with the color blue, associated with water, and consequently her talent as a swimmer.
Realism level: Both names are common enough that this exact combination has a higher chance of existing in the real world than not. One thing completely irrelevant to Aoi's character but cool enough for me to want to tell is that the Asahina family was originally a samurai clan founded by Asahina Yoshihide, and one the main tales about him is that he was so strong that after he died, he almost effortlessly defeated the king of hell in battle and forced him to show the way to paradise.
Ok, I kinda nothing to work with here. I guess I can just throw any combination of brightness-related or water-related names. Sunny Aguado, Aqua Solberg, Joy Fisher, Allegra Blue, Felicia Aquarius, Marina Summers, etc. There's no real element that gives any name option an edge above the rest. I really like Marisol here because it's a name that means "sea and sun" but unfortunately that leaves zero content to make a surname out of.
Aoi Asahina is an alliteration so maybe we can use that to narrow down to options like Aurora Attwater, Ariel Aelius, Mitra Marin, or Lana Luz. My final call will be Sapphire Solano, but there's really hundreds of ways this one can go. I changed the decided answer at least twice during the making of this post.
Mukuro Ikusaba
Calqued meaning for Ikusaba: War Blade
Calqued meaning for Mukuro: Not determinable because Mukuro doesn't have kanji but the word mukuro means corpse. However, if we were to assume the Mu in Mukuro must mean halberd, the most plausible configuration would be "Halberd Black".
Explicit functionality for Mukuro: Combining the Mu from Mukuro and the Jun from Junko, you form Mujun (contradiction).
Implicit functionality for Ikusaba: Tying to her soldier image while having more edge than a military-grade combat knife.
Implicit functionality for Mukuro: "Corpse" accurately describes her in her first appearance after her name is revealed.
Realism level: Zero. The Ikusaba surname is invented by Kodaka, and the name Mukuro comes up in anime sometimes but it's literally illegal to name your kid Corpse.
This is one was surprisingly interesting. Corpse Warblade is iconic and deservedly remained a meme in the fandom for years, so I wish I could keep it as is, but unfortunately it fails the most important functionality. It has to fit with Junko to form a word that can be associated with the mysteries the mystery game wants you to solve.
One of the first decisions I made for this post was to call Junko "Doxie" and look for an appropriate word beginning with Para for Mukuro. Later, when checking Doxie's realism level, I found out it's a rare name nowadays because the name became a word with sexual connotations. Incredibly lucky coincidence, to be honest. I think the meaning of Doxie actually fits Junko surprisingly well as representation of the gyaru subculture in its originating ideas.
But enough of Junko invading her sister's section. The name I chose for Mukuro is Parathion. It's the name of a poison, although not one weaponized against humans. Not great but it's the best the Paradox composition has to offer and I like Doxie too much to look for alternatives.
So, for that, Parathion's last name needs to carry Mukuro's corpse meaning, the tryhard edgelord aesthetic, the soldier imagery, and if possible also fit in the war blade meaning. That's a lot of things for just one name to do. I thought of Bloodshed as a surname that referred to war while doubling as an allusion to how Mukuro's own blood was already shed, but that felt a little obtuse. I ultimately decided to prioritize Mukuro's status as a corpse at the cost of the other aspects, and settled for the name Parathion Bloodless.
Kyouko Kirigiri
Calqued meaning for Kirigiri: Mist Cutter
Calqued meaning for Kyouko: Echo Girl, alternatively Audible Girl
Explicit functionality: None as far as I remember.
Implicit functionality for Kirigiri: Fog is a symbol of mystery so it fits for the detective family to say they sever and end it.
Implicit functionality for Kyouko that's is most likely a stretch but I need something to work with here: Kyouko is a girl who is heard. Whenever she talks, the other characters pay attention and take her words seriously. I can't remember an exception to this from the top of my head.
Silly alliteration: Every kanji in her name starts with a K sound (the g in giri is just a k vocalized with a dakuten).
Realism level: Kirigiri is made up by Kodaka and, as far as I can find, used only by Danganronpa and Genshin Impact to this day. Kyouko is a common name in many kanji configurations, including this one.
For reference, Genshin Impact localization names its Kirigiri sword as Mistsplitter Reforged. Great pick but not too relevant to us since it lacks the alliteration.
I wanted to insist in mist instead of any synonym because of its similar sounds to mystery, but the best name I could get from that was Mistmince, which is significant worse than Fogfeller both in epicness and in sounding like a name. So our alliteration will be on the F.
From this point onwards, we reach almost Asahina levels of "this can take forever and have almost 50 equally correct answers". Our options are every feminine one-syllable name that starts with an F or two-syllable names that both syllables have F. But we have to pick one. Fifer is definitely not a common name, but it has two F syllables and means "piper", which is a sound-related profession and is associated with the Pied Piper of Hamelin, which sorta tied to my stretchy idea of the name Kyouko representing the way she natural leadership, so Fifer Fogfeller it is.
Junko Enoshima
Calqued meaning for Enoshima: Inlet's Island
Calqued meaning for Junko: Shield Girl
Calqued meaning for Otonashi: Without sound (idiomatic expression meaning "lying low")
Calqued meaning for Ryouko: Breezy Girl (if we're working with archaic meanings, can alternatively be Innocent Girl)
Explicit functionality for Junko: The shield (jun) in her name is meant to be part of the word contradiction (mujun), written with the kanji for halberd and shield. Play case 5 of the first Ace Attorney game to know why.
Implicit functionality for Enoshima: Enoshima is a small tourist island in Kanagawa whose main attraction is a giant temple complex dedicated to the worship of goddess Benzaiten, popularly nicknamed Benten. Benzaiten is the goddess of pretty much everything that flows and constantly changes, most notably water, wind, music, words, poetry, knowledge, arts, and beauty.
Implicit functionality for Otonashi: Junko Enoshima sure isn't making any big moves in Danganronpa/Zero.
Implicit functionality for Ryouko: She very much has a breezy personality. No matter how many horrifying situations come her, she'll remain chill enough to drop a hearty and confident "Not my problem".
Implicit functionality for Ryouko if we were taking archaic meanings into consideration (we aren't): Otonashi hasn't done a single bad thing, it was all that weird Junko Enoshima chick she knows nothing about.
Possibly intentional functionality but I'm not sure: The most common configuration of the name Junko is with kanji meaning "Pure Girl", but this Junko's configuration rejects the purity kanji, reflecting the roots of the gyaru subculture as rebellion against Japan's purity culture.
Realism level: Enoshima exists only as the name of a location, not being a real person name. Junko is somewhat common in many kanji configurations (used to be a lot more prevalent around the 60s) but the "Shield Girl" version is unique to Danganronpa. The only non-Danganronpa-related mention of "Shield Girl" Junko I could find online is an early FGO interview where Takeuchi mentions Junko as placeholder name for Mash Kyrielight during development. Otonashi is a dying surname, perhaps much more common in fiction than in real life at this point. Ryouko is pretty normal.
I already covered Doxie in Mukuro's section. Really lucky pick. And the surname for it is just as lucky. This one should theoretically be hard because Benzaiten's domains of eloquence, fluidity, wisdom, and beauty make her a goddess very specific to what compose Junko's character. I don't think there's any Western goddess that covers all bases. The element of constant change, which might be the most important thing, is something I don't think I've seen in any other religion. But somehow Benten is a real English surname so here I miraculously get Doxie Benten as the easiest name in this post. I'm sure that in this hypothetical localization timeline, a lot of people will correctly associate the name Benten with Junko's multiple "transformation" but think the reference is Ben 10.
Now, I'm a huge sucker for dumb and obvious names playing on the word "incognito" and that's the energy I wanted to bring to Otonashi, but I need to do it without laying Zero's twist too obviously. Otonashi is known as the Super High School Level Analyst, so I think I can get away with Bree Cogito, three letters removed from incognito, as her talent can mislead the reader to think Cogito was chosen because it means "think".

Eps 34-35
Not many photos here because anything I screenshot in these eps would literally just give me psychic damage at this point (-:
Spoilers under the cut!
Ep 34:
I'm being so brave watching this fucking opening scene again.
No actually though I've watched it several times by now and it just keeps getting worse. What can one even say about all this? Ow??? Fuck???
Probably the most gruesome onscreen death of a child character in cdrama that I've seen like I didn't know they could even go there like that. I guess maybe because it's not gory or specifically violent? Idk the rules but man. His expression.
The way they play TJR singing their song and then switch to LZY's version. Maximum pain thank you guys.
ZYC's "I'm sorry" is so damn loaded. For not being there, for failing to protect him, but also for being the reason Bai Jiu made this decision. For giving Bai Jiu someone to love and protect and die for. For unknowingly and inadvertently causing this just by loving him and being loved by him. ZYC's remorse and regret as he makes the connections and pieces together Bai Jiu's thought process is so fucking haunting. Just the most awful way for his own words of comfort to come back. And like I'd commented previouslyā€”the way love begets grief.
I'm going to kms I knew when they put yet another cloak on ZYC that he'd be giving it to someone else but NO!!! Not like this oh my god
"å“„åø¶ä½ å›žå®¶" (Ge will take you home) I don't even have the words for how painful this is. Is this the first time ZYC refers to himself as ge? Not just acknowledging that Bai Jiu's made an older brother of him? If not, it's certainly the most salient.
Both actors' skills can hardly be questioned atp (like, that's a damn difficult expression to die with), but I just have to marvel at the way TJR's acting (his micro-expressions!!!) is at once subtle and incredibly clear. That ZYC's every emotion is clearly telegraphedā€”his shock, his horror, his anguish, his regret, his desperation, his exhaustionā€”but so naturally done.
ZYC struggling with the weight of Bai Jiu's body and dropping it, on top of paralleling the flashback, is just so terrible in its reality. ZYC must already be so incredibly drained after that final battle. To have gone through such an unspeakable loss, to carry it on his back and find himself unable to even properly do that, to protect what's left of Bai Jiu from the mundanity of physical damage.
WX's dad nooooo you're leaving her to ZYZ but ZYZ's not planning on staying either nooooo
Are we sure the magic rain couldn't have saved WX's dad tho ):
WX don't tell ZYZ your self-sacrificial plan there's no way he'd let you go through with it girl!!! You gotta pull a ZYC and be vague as fuck and make sure everyone's feet are frozen to the ground so they can't stop you
ZYZ backing away after using the spell on WX, slapping himself when he nearly can't get himself to go through with dying. Good shit. But also my god I'm so sorry WX what a fucking traumatic ten minutes will anyone give her a fucking break? Living at any cost, at the cost of her beloved dying several feet away from her, yet another manifestation of her trauma with Zhao Wan'er, and knowing it's about to happen, begging to be given a sayā€”cruel. PSJ has been offscreen for forever just because plot convenience (which, in itself, already sucks) but if she were here she would kill ZYZ herself for putting WX through this and the rain would just be a bonus.
The Cloud Light Sword stained with blood to the point it looks unfamiliarā€”good shit.
ZYC's fucking voice when he asks if there's any other choice. Art, I tell you.
Fucking hell. The twist on their fate being ZYC choosing it rather than being forced into it, to absolve ZYZ of the cruelty he's had to bear responsibility for in doing this to his loved ones. Zhiji was not misapplied in this damn storyā€”ZYC understands and he understands over and over because who else could do this for ZYZ? To find one last way to lighten his burden in such a conflicting and complicated and impossible situation. To know exactly what must be hurting ZYZ and to bear the weight instead and to make sure he knows full well that's what's happening. For ZYC to take that hurt upon himself, entirely upon himself. The way that ZYC dealing the killing blow is actually the furthest thing from a moment of hardening his own heart, that it's in fact the height of his soft-heartedness. And how much that must hurt. Pain.
Also, imo ZYC making it purely his choice at the last moment is so clearly and specifically for ZYZ. Not for anyone else's sake, and precisely against his own and WX's wishes. Upon knowing ZYZ's commitment to death in this moment, whatever else happening has been made secondary. He is giving ZYZ all that he has left to giveā€”fulfilling ZYZ's sacrificial determination, carrying out ZYZ's will to save the people, absolving ZYZ's guilt at what it's taken to get here.
(Totally tangential but I referenced AOT in my last post so I figured I'd make further reference: if anyone's familiar with Eruriā€”I'm somewhat reminded of Levi's choice. Being the only one with the power to save or let their loved one die. Choosing death for them, on their behalf, perhaps a decision opaque and counterintuitive to the rest of the world but completely and utterly made out of love and an inimitable understanding of the man they love. The most painfully and unimaginably selfless act, to give them peace at the cost of their own suffering.)
"小卓ļ¼Œä½ é‚„ę˜Æ這éŗ¼..." (Xiao Zhuo, you're still so...) Oh this line kills me (ha). I love that it's unfinished. That it encapsulates ZYZ's surprise, his understanding and gratitude, and ultimately this sense of marveling at the man in front of him and what he's given ZYZ even now, at the very end. It tells me ZYZ recognizes ZYC's choice for what it is: the utmost act of a soft-hearted and boundless love that sees through him completely. Zhiji indeed.
The way ZYZ has unfulfilled promises with both WX and ZYC, the way they both call him a liarā€”good shit.
When I didn't know there was an episode 35 (or special episode I guess) I was boutta throw hands like what do you MEAN that's it??
Ep 35:
I do love a good hair-turning-white-from-grief trope (': But man, white hair like that at 24/25........Also though PSJ and WX finally have more noticeably different styling/silhouettes yayy they look gorgeous
God, but I can't bear looking at how small their group is now.
Searching all the mountains and seas, all 28 mountains in the Wilderness. ZYC, that kind of devotion...I really feel the need to echo ZYZ here, you're really so...
ZYC looking like ZYZ from behind because of his hair......ZYC's hand shaking holding Bai Jiu's bell............................
Also I'm really glad (I say this through tears) because I saw Bai Jiu didn't have his bell in ep 33/34 and I was like ??
Ah, are you kidding me I thought the pain was more or less over what do you mean Bai Jiu wants ZYC to å‹æęƒ³å‹æåæµ [wĆ¹ xiĒŽng wĆ¹ niĆ n] (don't think of, don't miss)?? The way äøåæµäøå“ [bĆ¹ niĆ n bĆ¹ xiĒŽng] is literally the title of ZYC's character song, which then plays in the bg ('''':
(I can't really tell how well the subs explain it or how it comes across in translation so apologies if this context isn't necessary but the characters in the song title say "don't read, don't ring," but the character for "ring" is a homophone for "think of" and the character for "read" can also mean "miss." Missing someone/something is "ęƒ³åæµ" [xiĒŽng niĆ n]. Bai Jiu tells ZYC not to miss him through homophonous termsā€”a book he can't read, a bell that can't ringā€”and the song title is directly referencing that.) What an elaborate way to hurt me.
Bai Jiu really pulled a ZYC though with a box full of hurt/comfort just like ZYC had left WX
Ohhh the way WX's narration turns into ZYC's?? Honestly this drama's commitment to canonizing ZYC's love for ZYZ to the same level as WX's is really gratifying. And ZYC talking about a bone-deep sadness after ZYZ died. The parallel of baby!ZYC in front of the pond. I especially love the mention of ZYZ's age in comparison to ZYC's, these glimpses of the perspective ZYC has gained with hindsight. The distance of time and reflection and yet the unmistakable fondness and love. It is in part healing to hear.
Also imo ZYC if the scene chosen for ZYZ's POV of you is accurate I'd wager he saw you not as some angry child but as the pinnacle of humanity's beautiful bleeding heart.
Tumblr media
ZYZ said it before right? That every human emotion is important? Well ZYC really has been constantly feeling the entire range of human emotion this whole drama lmao
Why yes I do think I need a heartwrenching MV-style montage of all the tragedies of this story that ultimately offers bittersweet catharsis and closure as the OST narrates about searching for someone and finding them in the end. Just what the doctor prescribed tyvm
WX saying ZYZ's final wish was to č½č‘‰ęøę ¹ (translated as returning home, literally translates to "fallen leaves return to their root," implies returning home after a long time) the way humans do and ZYZ's soul literally being on a leaf of paper (which kinda sorta works in CN as well since "leaf" and "page" are homophonous) that, carried by the wind, returns to ZYC?? Home??? Are you joking bc I'm sobbing.
Gonna have to use this photo again bc literally how else do I describe how I'm feeling rn?
Tumblr media
And that's a fucking wrap. I'm so. I don't even. Wow. Maybe in another couple of business days I'll throw together a brief review of the show as a whole, but right now I'm gonna drown myself in other people's metas and gifs and fics as god intended. Thank you as always for spending the time on my silly ramblings and I hope you enjoyed the ride!

Hangman is cominā€™ down from the gallows, and I donā€™t have very long.
In which Tyler is smitten with a certain girl and Jake does what he does best: annoy people.
Warnings: foul language
Note: Tyler refers to Bradley only as Rooster while Jake calls him by his name or Roo, this was a detail i didnā€™t notice until I was half way through writing this. The things I do to myself.
Tags: @devil-angel-winchester
Song: renegade by Styx
ā•ā•ā•ā• ā‹†ā˜…ā‹† ā•ā•ā•ā•
Jake licked his teeth and clicked his tongue as he oh-so-casually slid up next to his brother, boxing Tyler into the booth at the old country diner theyā€™d crowded into somewhere in central Oklahoma.
ā€œSoā€¦ Kate, huh?ā€ Jakeā€™s grin stretched from ear to ear, his eyes gleaming with mischief.
Tyler shot him a sidelong glance, trying to ignore the growing heat in his cheeks. ā€œWhat about Kate?ā€
Jake leaned in closer, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. ā€œCome on, Ty. I see the way you look at her. Itā€™s not just friendly banter about tornado chasing.ā€
Tyler shifted uncomfortably, trying to deflect. ā€œItā€™s not like that. We just work togetherā€”weā€™re partners, you know, with the polymer project. And sheā€™s been through a lot with storm chasing. Iā€™m just trying to keep things light-hearted and professional.ā€
Jake raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. ā€œLight-hearted and professional? Thatā€™s why you practically trip over your words whenever sheā€™s around? And donā€™t think I didnā€™t catch how you went all sweet southern boy when Bradshaw and I first got here.ā€
Tyler stiffened and gave his twin a glare, irritated by how well Jake read him. It was a talent Jake had always had, and it never failed to get under Tylerā€™s skin.
ā€œYou were buttering yourself up to make yourself look good in front of her,ā€ Jake continued, his smirk growing. ā€œIt was almost sickening how thick you laid it on. Bradley had to take a walk when you two went to look at the radar. I thought he was going to throw up!ā€
Tylerā€™s face reddened. ā€œThatā€™s exaggerating, Jake. I was just trying to be supportive. Itā€™s not like I planned to impress anyone.ā€
Jakeā€™s grin widened, clearly relishing his brotherā€™s discomfort. ā€œOh, come on. We both know you were laying it on super thick. Iā€™ve seen you try to play it cool before, but this? This was next-level. And Iā€™m not saying it was a bad thingā€”but holy shit, Ty.ā€
Tylerā€™s face was practically streaming with embarrassment. He silently thanked whatever higher power had distracted Kate and the others. The only one left in their booth was Rooster, who was looking equally uncomfortable.
ā€œRight, Roo?ā€ Jake decided to rope the other man into the conversation, clearly enjoying Tylerā€™s discomfort. ā€œYou saw it, right?ā€
Rooster shifted uncomfortably, glancing between the two brothers. He clearly tried to avoid getting involved but failed as Jakeā€™s sharp eyes fixed on him.
ā€œNo comment,ā€ Rooster said, and Tyler silently thanked him for trying to steer the conversation away.
ā€œWhatever,ā€ Jake clicked his tongue and narrowed his eyes, then turned his full attention back to Tyler. ā€œIā€™ve never seen you so smitten! Never! She really must be something.ā€
Tyler bit his tongue, struggling to keep from spilling all the reasons he thought Kate was amazing. He knew that would only dig him deeper into Jakeā€™s teasing.
ā€œBut I like her! I think Ma and Dad will, too,ā€ Jake said and finally relented, for now. He slid back from his brother and returned to his seat next to Rooster.
The timing was impeccable because, just then, Kate walked into the booth area with a radiant smile and a lively energy that made Tylerā€™s heart skip.
Jakeā€™s eyes sparkled with mischief as he noticed the effect Kate had on Tyler. His Cheshire smile broadened, clearly enjoying this.
Tyler knew Jake wouldnā€™t let him live this down.
Bonus Rooster and Kate:
ā€œIs he always like this?ā€ Kate said from atop the red rig, her sunglasses shielding her eyes from the harsh Oklahoma sun. Bradley was handing her the new sensors, both of them squinting against the glaring light.
Bradley didnā€™t need to look to know what she meant. He let out a sigh. ā€œAnnoying? Always.ā€
It was a dry joke, and Kate snorted, giving the side of the sensor a quick, unceremonious smack to adjust it.
ā€œJakeā€™s got this knack for finding everyoneā€™s soft spots and poking at them. Itā€™s his way of keeping things interesting,ā€ Bradley continued. He was used to it by now, but he could understand how aggressive it might seem to others.
Kate raised an eyebrow, clearly processing this. ā€œSo, itā€™s not just me heā€™s targeting?ā€
Bradley shook his head. ā€œNope. He picks on everyone, but Tylerā€™s the one heā€™s focused onā€”sibling things, I guess? I donā€™t know, I was an only child.ā€
Bradley got sidetracked, waving his hand dismissively as he handed her another sensor.
ā€œAnyways, you just got caught in the crossfire. Trust me, itā€™s not malicious. Jake just found something he could tease Tyler about and went with it.ā€
Kate took the sensor with a nod, her expression easing. ā€œGot it. Iā€™ll just stay still and hope he wonā€™t see me.ā€
She and Bradley shared a laugh at the lame pop culture joke.
Bradley grinned. ā€œNo problem. And if Jake gets to be too much, just let me know.ā€
Kate smiled and nodded as they returned to their work. With Bradleyā€™s reassurance, she felt more prepared to handle Jakeā€™s playful jabs.
But that didnā€™t stop her own teasing side from rearing its head. ā€œSo, is like ā€˜wingmanā€™ the Navy term for boyfriend?ā€
Bradley choked on his spit.
ā•ā•ā•ā• ā‹†ā˜…ā‹† ā•ā•ā•ā•
Average Rooster reaction while being dragged across Oklahoma, poor Roo (he did this to himself)

INTRODUCING... X=GEN!
basket case (h. chigiri x f!reader) || divider by @roseraris
Tumblr media
note: this introduction is made from rin itoshiā€™s pov.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
about x-gen:
āœ© julian loki manages the official band account, since heā€™s been an independent musician for a while already. tabito karasu helps out with publicity because julian doesnā€™t trust anyone else to do the job. āœ© the reason they donā€™t have a professional, non-member manager is because theyā€™re such a big group. with seven people, ego decided they should be forced to try their hand at managing their own professional affairs.
about the members:
āœ© leader of x-gen julian loki is a popular independent pop artist in the local scene. he used to make music in his own apartment in paris, and the blue lock talent project has given him access to better quality sound production and band members whose talents he can utilise. truly a win-win situation! (he is x-gen's tired dad) āœ© rin itoshi is one of the most talented vocalists in the project. during the second selection, he ranked in first place on metrics such as ā€˜audience satisfactionā€™ and ā€˜star powerā€™; however, heā€™s working on being a better team player. āœ© ryusei shidou ranked just after rin in the second selection. heā€™s unpredictable but also versatile, his background of theatre training coming in handy when it comes to pushing the boundaries of modern pop and rock. āœ© charles chevalier is another young up-and-coming star in the local pop music scene. heā€™s only seventeen, but already very talented as a guitarist. for now he learns diligently from julian, hoping to get solos in x-genā€™s future shows. āœ© zantetsu tsurugiā€™s technical skills as a bassist are absolutely off the charts. any vision x-gen has for a song, he brings it to life. heā€™s serious about music, but just a little bit air-headed at times. āœ© just like zantetsu, tabito karasu is one of the most technically proficient trainees of blue lock. people decscribe his playing style as ā€˜flying through the beatsā€™, doing things with the drums they never thought possible. āœ© and last but not least, aoshi tokimitsu is a timid classically-trained pianist who's looking to apply his skills in the modern music scene! being the most well-versed in music theory in the group, he helps everyone out in the crucial stage of songwriting.
about their music:
āœ© their sound is an experimental mixture of pop and rock. with inspirations being mother mother, coldplay and manshine's namesake, mĆ„neskin. their setlist reflects their range and talents perfectly (or so they thought until ego decided otherwise :((((( ) āœ© the band was named for their aim of revolutionising pop rock, and bringing artists from different genres together to create the next generation of modern artists. and sure enough, they're versatile enough to complement the strengths of both their lead singers. āœ© (they are referred to as x-gen, stylised X=GEN)
songs i think sound like them:
āœ© supermassive black hole (muse) āœ© honey (are you coming?) (mĆ„neskin) āœ© zitti e buoni (mĆ„neskin) āœ© arms tonite (mother mother) āœ© sparks (coldplay)
bonus! introducing... sae itoshi!
āœ© a former young theatre star, sae itoshi has since abandoned the stage for a dramatic shift to the hollywood big screen. he recently starred in a critically-acclaimed movie, to which he owes his rise to fame. āœ© the brothers itoshi have a rocky relationship. between busy schedules and sae needing to leave japan to further his career, they haven't sat down for a meal together since rin was fifteen. āœ© fun fact: as a child, he worked alongside ryusei shidou on many productions!
Tumblr media
a/n: can you tell i'm such a big fan of mother mother and mƄneskin. i comb through my actual playlists for these intros and... yeah. i think i like x-gen more than manshine now... i'm not sorry at all
taglist: @narcjsistx, @nyxlai, @n0ah-hal00, @kawoala, @chuuyalvover, @ih8geography, @lorisheaven (open, comment on any post in this series to be added, preferably here at the series masterlist)

Note
The crew listens to Epic: the Musical.
MK's favorite song is Legendary.
Wukong identifies with Just a Man (not that he'll admit it).
Macaque likes Ruthlessness because he's an emo little stinker.
Sandy likes Open Arms (of course).
Tang and Red Son like Warrior of the Mind.
Pigsy really thinks the monkeys should take Luck Runs Out to heart.
Mei likes Keep Your friends close (a fun bop that belies danger underneath, just like her).
I have to be careful binging a new muscial (or in this case Saga) cus I end up playing each song on loop for hours. Opinions might change once the full and finished versions of later sagas are released.
I love all these hcs <3
Im imagining the gang likely sees/listens to Epic on the reccomendation of MK (who's currently on a Greek Mythology hyperfixation), and he gets them all to watch the full play - maybe in the future as a irl performance or film.
"Legendary" is SUCH an MK song. Both him and Telemachus growing up with the stories of someone dear to them and wanting to replicate their success. I could also see him really liking "Warrior of the Mind" with the theme of "some nobody" gaining the favor of a god (reminds you of anyone?) + SWK is infamously the personification of The Mind in Jttw so its a bonus. MK is smiling evily whenever a harsh plot twist occurs and his fam are shocked silent. >:3
Sun Wukong feels targeted personally with how many of the Epic songs remind him of his past. Ofc he starts crying halfway through "Horse and the Infant", and is inconsolable during "Just A Man" - verbally yelling "NO!" at the end. And like Nezha and Sandy is *silent* during Posideon's songs. Is super jazzed during the triumphant Ithaca Saga though! And feels mega catharic during "King" when Odysseus proves that he still rules to the suitors! He tries his best to hide how much the muscial is affecting him.
Macaque is a canon theatre Nerd - so he's already listened to the musical multiple times, but he's uber excited to see the live performance (and secretly bond with his found fam). Is rocking out during "Ruthlessness" and "Done For" in particular, so much so that he's fidgeting and dancing within his seat. He also vibes with "No Longer You" as someone with powers of prophecy. Is really amazed how much Wukong gets into the musical, but in retrospect understands *why*. Him and Wukong accidentally share a glance during "Would You Fall In Love With Me Again" and it gets a little awkward afterwards.
Mei is similarly excited to see anything with her bestie, so she tried her best not hear/see any spoilers ("it's a centuries' old story Mei" "Ssssh!! Dont tell me!"). She was shooketh by how hard the muscial goes. "Keep Your Friends Close" is her fave based on beat alone. She gets delightedly scared and amazed by consistent horse imagery used with Posideon (shameless link to my fave Animatic of "Ruthlessness").
Tang loves himself some historical and mythological adaptations, and is estatic that MK has given him an excuse to go see one! He's not as familar with Hellenic mytholgy as he is with Hindu-Chinese, but he knows enough lore to make the pog-champ face at every foreshadowing/reference. "Warrior of the Mind" really gets to him as a song about valuing your smarts. He also feels really empathetic for Calypso.
Pigsy only went cus Tang begged him. He feels super lost by the deep Greek lore he's missing, but he can get Odysseus's whole thing with trying to get home - but he def identifies more with Eurylochus. "Luck Runs Out" proves this to him. Later on he feels that the second-in-command was justified in having the soldiers rebel against Odysseus after so many losses (who wouldn't after losing all their friends?). Audibly gasps at the end of "Just A Man" - cus who would just do that!? Is a little freaked out by Circe turning the Athenian's into pigs - Eurylochus is depicted as partly-transformed, played by a pig-demon actor who was in super convincing human makeup in the previous sagas. He also gets protective feelings by-proxy seeing Telemachus's situation since the prince reminds him of MK. Is surprised by how much he likes the musical!
Sandy feels betrayed. This isn't like Disney Hercules at all! He does really enjoy Polites message in "Open Arms" and the later moments when the hopeful soldier's outlook is proven correct. He's a little overwhelmed at points though - he get eerily quiet during Posideon's scenes. He sobs joyfully when Odysseus finally makes it home and reunites with his family! :')
Because of this really good animatic/almost child-like depiction of Aelous by gigi; I can def see "Keep Your Friends Close" being Nezha's fave. It reminds Nezha of when he was far more carefree + has a solid lesson on about trust/"forbidden fruit". He also enjoys the more march-like tune of "Survive". He does however, freeze when he listens to Posideon's songs "Ruthlessness" and "Get in the Water" - he has been on the bad end of a sea god before and is quietly shtting himself for Odysseus.
Red Son goes in feeling like he could have stayed at home listening to the musical on his phone while working on a car instead. He is however blown away by the heavy themes and performances, especially "Warrior of the Mind" and Telemachus's situation - a prince forced to grow up fatherless and protecting his mother from suitors due to his dad pissing off a higher power? Hello?? Accidentally shrieks "YES!!!" when Athena becomes Telemachus's mentor/friend after "Little Wolf".
Princess Iron Fan I could see loving any song including Penelope (she empathizes with the Queen's situation hard), but unexpectedly enjoys "Keep Your Friends Close" - she's a fellow Wind Goddess at her core. It also reminds her of her not-so-little-anymore nephew.
DBK on the flip side loves the heavier songs like "Polyphemus" and "Ruthlessness". This man is a Posedion apologist. He does feels bad for Odysseus by the end though - man just wants to get back to his wife and kid dammit!
Bonus: The Spider Gang are watching the bootleg and Spider Queen agrees with Circe's whole girlboss attitude especially "Puppeteer". Scorpion Queen is Calypso in "Not Sorry For Loving You".
This got a little away from me - hope you enjoy!

In Defense of Lady Kang/Queen Sindeok (1/3)
Tumblr media
As promised, here's the first part of my defense of Queen Sindeok, explaining her historical political situation + clearing up some common fandom misconceptions about her, which I don't blame anyone for since they originate from the show itself. I must admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for her since history generally tends to be unkind to women - this extends to modern media and MCTNA is no exception:
(more under the cut)
Before we start, I thought I'd give a small refresher on the Yi family constellation - crucial for setting up the conflict and crown prince issue - with the aid of this extremely useful graphic by bodashiri (excluding the daughters for simplicity's sake):
Tumblr media
(From here: x)
As you can see, Yi Seong-gye (King Taejo of Joseon) had two wives:
His first wife Lady Han (Queen Sinui) gave birth to six sons: 1. Yi Bang-woo (Prince Jinan), 2. Yi Bang-gwa (Prince Youngan), 3. Yi Bang-ui (Prince Yikan), 4. Yi Bang-gan (Prince Hoean), 5. Yi Bang-won (Prince Jeongan) and 6. Yi Bang-yeon (Prince Deokan).
His second wife Lady Kang (Queen Sindeok) gave birth to two sons: 7. Yi Bang-beon (Prince Muan) and 8. Yi Bang-seok (Prince Uian),
meaning that Seong-gye had eight sons overall.
With that out of the way, let's get started!!!
1. Queen Sindeok was NOT a concubine
Tumblr media
(From here: x)
She is referred to as Yi Seong-gye/King Taejo's capital/Seoul wife in the show too:
Tumblr media
However, every time Bang-won calls her a concubine and her children illegitimate there is never any pushback or correction by anyone, not even when he calls her younger son Bang-seok/Prince Uian a ā€˜seojaā€™ (illegitimate child born to a commoner concubine or royal concubine) in front of Seon-ho:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You'd think Seon-ho would defend Bang-seok by correcting Bang-won... but nope. Nada.
Not even Queen Sindeok (!!!) is allowed to defend herself and her children when they get accused of the same:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, what is this madness!!!
Anyone who doesn't know aboutĀ Korean history would never even SUSPECT that this isnā€™t actually true, and that Queen Sindeok is in fact a legitimate second wife and queen. By giving no pushback to the (false) claims of illegitimacy, the show seems to implicitly support Bang-wonā€™s narrative of her being a lying, conniving, greedy bitch who wants to push her child on the throne despite having no right to it whatsoever as a concubine and bastard respectively.
Queen Sindeok's tragedy, the one that MCTNA fails to portray, is not that she was a concubine who tried to rise above her station (because she was not); it's that, due to the transition from Goryeo to Joseon, she found herself caught between two conflicting sets of laws:
Tumblr media
(From Tombstones without a Tomb by Hildi Kang)
A queen while alive, and unjustly demoted to a concubine in death by Bang-won/King Taejong who used these legal changes and the new Confucian ruling to his advantage, her status was a matter of contention for scholars and kings alike for almost 300 years, until finally, in 1669, the scholar Song Si-yeol managed to amass enough people and put enough pressure on King Hyeonjong to make him give in to their demands and restore Queen Sindeok to her rightful status and honor as queen.
+ Bonus:
Tumblr media
(From Tombstones without a Tomb by Hildi Kang)
Turns out that according to the new Confucian ruling, Bang-won himself should have been considered illegitimate too!! Surprise!!!

Thanks for clarifying the sentenceā€”it mostly made sense but that middle part was giving me serious trouble. I donā€™t think I would have figured it out without help.
Makes sense that I didnā€™t get it thoughā€”havenā€™t played totkā€”so I had zero references. I like seeing the language differences between what I presume is some variant of skyā€™s Julian compared to wildā€™s! Itā€™s still intelligible but with very clear differences in spelling.
Adore that the Zonai were the ones to continue on telling the story of the hero of the sky and why. Of course the funky cat/dragon sky people told the story of the hero of the sky! Itā€™s really fun world-building and yeah of course the people living in the sky would relate to a hero from similar circumstances (added bonus of claiming the god slayer to their line of succession). Itā€™s a multipurpose legend!
Furthermore, it explains why Hylia is so prevalent in botw compared to literally any other game (not counting Skyward Sword). The retelling of the hero of the sky meant that some of those cultural practices got passed down to Wildā€™s era but it shifted from formal worship to more intimate worship. Itā€™s utterly fascinating!
Please continue to give me world building! Are there any other headcanons you have on the other Hyrules or characters?
I wonder what skyā€™s reaction to knowing how prevalent he is still in wildā€™s era is?
Of course! To answer that last bit first: he's surprised to know that his hero title is remembered, but he doesn't know the true extent of how much people still know about him. He also isn't aware of how much time is between their eras--he knows that it's pretty distant, but to be fair he's used to interacting with long-lived beings from distant times. Sky hasn't really processed what it means for Wild's era to still remember him.
As for the rest: I'm not sure you understand what you're opening the door for, but I'm always down to talk world building and headcanons so let's go :D
Termina is in Lorule. It's from a timeline where their Triforce was never destroyed, so it's a lot healthier and resembles Hyrule more. Rifts between the lands still exist but are significantly more stable, so it's not uncommon for someone or something from one land to cross into the other. That's how Hilda was able to learn of Hyrule's Triforce--someone from Hyrule fell into their lands. It's more difficult in the other direction, and anyone who left Lorule while it was crumbling away was more than happy to pretend like it never existed, so that's why Zelda didn't know about it.
Seers are a big thing in Hyrule, and are the reason the different timelines know about each other. That said, visions of the past/future are indistinguishable from alternate timelines, so they don't actually know they sometimes see things from alternate realities--they just think they must've gotten something wrong. Seers that are able to catch glimpses of the heroes on their journey will often have their visions recorded as 'history'. This is why the mural in TP's castle town is so weird: it's an amalgamation of OoT and WW.
The Oocca tribe was related to the Interlopers. They used to be the same tribe of Hylian sorcerers that lived within the Sacred Realm. Much like the Sheikah/Yiga of botw, a schism formed and fighting broke out, with the force of their magic threatening to destroy the land. Those who would become the Twili were banished to the Twilight, and the others were sent to the sky (being given the Rito treatment in the process). Neither side would recognize the other, between the physical transformations and the amount of time that's passed.
Agitha(TP) is a descendant of Strich(SS). Her family is one of the oldest in the kingdom--and among the wealthiest.
Weather in this world is the work of spirits (technically they're a kind of fairy). It's all very localized, so that's why things like the Rod of Seasons and Song of Storms don't have disastrous global consequences. The Gale Boomerang houses one such spirit.
The moon cycle is associated with the Golden Goddesses. This is actually something I wrote in one of my wips (this one is gonna take years to finish, I just know it), so I'm gonna copy that section over:
ā€œThe moonā€™s magic only changes during a full moon, but I was talking about the offering part. Nayru is a-so-see-ate-ed with the in-between full and new moons.ā€ Zelda chewed her lip in thought a bit before lighting up. ā€œBecause sheā€™s the Goddess of Time!ā€ He nodded with a face-splitting grin. ā€œDinā€™s the new moon, ā€˜cuz sheā€™s the start of the cycle and you need her fire to see well during it. And Farore is the full moon, ā€˜cuz sheā€™s the end of the cycle and blesses the land with new life.ā€
To build off that last point, the Blood Moon is Ganon hijacking the full moon's normal power of respawning natural resources. And yes, this is my in-universe explanation for how Hyrule's ecosystem recovers so quickly and is so abundant. Ganon is very rightfully jealous--the one from OoT keeps trying to grab the Triforce of Courage for Farore's association but it never works.
And yes, the respawning thing applies to those who hold the Triforce of Courage.
The Downfall Timeline is already a retcon in of itself so I don't care too much about changing details: the hero never opened the door to the Sacred Realm in that timeline.
Chuchus take on the properties of magic they absorb, with varying degrees of efficiency depending on the era. Most are carnivorous and prefer to eat things while they are alive--the ones in TP have a broad enough diet to consume all ingredients necessary to brew a potion with their own body.
Cuccos aren't actually animals--they're actually related to the Lizalfos/Dynalfos/Aeralfos line. Much like Wolfos, Hylians domesticated them anyway.

May I please request headcanons for Nana O, Reira, Yasu, and Shin dating a female rapper and singer whose music is similar to Lauryn Hill and is heavily acclaimed with many awards won? Bonus if she's African-American too :)
Here's Lauryn Hill's most popular song for reference:
Honestly the whole album is spectacular!
Nana ~With an African-American female rapper and singer similar to Lauryn Hill~
Manga/anime: Nana
Warnings: mild spoilers about Shin's childhood (only where he grew up), Reira's origins and Yasu's past (only his previous relationships)
O. Nana
She doesn't care if you aren't Japanese; rather, she loves hearing you talk about your culture and she even gets help from you with English
I'm pretty sure she likes your music, since it's very close to the genre she sings, especially the part where you rap
She often comes to hear you at rehearsals, and she even does duets with you (she glares at anyone who dares to say your rehearsals are closed to the public or you two can't duet)
Sometimes, though, she's a little jealous of your success, and she feels she isn't up to your level, which is why every now and then you've to reassure her she's more than enough for you
She's always in the front row at your concerts, but, being the tsundere she's, she'll never admit it ("Did you see me in the front row? You must have been mistaken, imagine if I come to your concert hours early to take the front seat!" She always does so)
O. Shin'ichi (Shin)
He doesn't feel particularly Japanese, having grown up abroad, so it doesn't bother him you're African-American, but if someone makes fun of you for that, he'll defend you, even to the point of getting into fights
He really likes your music, and he often listens to it when he composes some songs
He's always at your concerts and your awards: he always makes sure he doesn't have any plans for that day
When you sing in your house, he stops everything he's doing to listen to you; he also often records you to then watch and listen to you when you've to stay away for your work
However, those moments don't happen very often, since he demands to come with you when you go on tour; once, during one of your tours, he even took the plane without telling you and, when you went to the hotel, you found him in the lobby
T. Yasushi (Yasu)
He really likes you're of a different ethnicity than him (after all, he was engaged to Reira, who's half American): he finds it very interesting and fun to share your different cultures with each other and he also wonders what your future children will be like
I think he likes your music; anyway, even if he didn't like it, he would still support you, coming to your concerts and helping you with rehearsals
About the latter, when you rehearse, he often accompanies you with the drums (sometimes, if you try at home, you may receive unpleasant visits from neighbors)
Instead, regarding your concerts, he has no problem revealing he wants to be in the front row or to come and visit you in the dressing room: for him there's nothing wrong with supporting his girlfriend
Every time you've to go on tour, he apparently accepts it with maturity, but in reality he's very sad not to see you, and above all hear you, for a while
S. Reira
Since she's half Japanese and half American, you probably give her a feeling of familiarity and being with you makes her feel like she's in America
Although your music isn't too much for her (I've always thought she likes very melodic songs, like her band's ones, and not too rhythmic or rock ones), she likes your voice and even the more melodic parts of your songs
In addition, she's your number one fan, although you two often compete in the rankings and to win awards
In fact, whenever she talks to her band, she has to include you in the conversation: she always appoints you, whether it's mentioning your tastes, your opinions or your victories and awards
She hates it when she or you have to go on tour, because it means being away for weeks; she calls you every night, and she also wants someone to video call her while you perform, so it's as if she were there
I truly apologize for not being very active during this period, but I took a quick break from Tumblr for a while due to school. However, now that the Christmas holidays are here, I'll post more regularly.

As someone who has experienced both The Caligula Effect and Milgram, which Milgram characters do you consider most likely to be in the Go-Home Club and Musicians respectively?
Hm, this is a really difficult question...
Mostly because Milgram and the Caligula Effect franchise are different on very fundamental levels.
So, here's the short answer no spoilers or long explainations-
Musicians: Haruka, Shidou, Mahiru, Amane, Kotoko. Go Home Club: Yuno, Futa, Mu, Kazui, Mikoto.
As a bonus-
Aria: Jackalope Ī¼ (Mu)/Regret: Es
Long post with a lot of reasoning and other stuff beneath. Spoilers for the Caligula Effect games under the cut.
Now why is this difficult?
This is because Caligula Effect has a focus on rehabilitation and bettering oneself from their past experiences. As well as a focus on building better communication skills all while meeting people where theyā€™re at and looking at oneā€™s own actions more objectively.
While on the other hand Yamanaka has gone on record stating that Milgram isnā€™t about rehabilitation not only within the text itself but outside of it.
Amane's First Voice Drama
Don't make me laugh. I'm not your teacher at school; it isn't my goal to teach you things or guide you on the right path.
This can be taken as a bit of cheeky nod towards Caligula Effect something Amane's voice actress also worked in. Since that takes place within a school setting. It is still highlighting this is not that though.
Highlighting that once again guidance, learning from one's mistakes, and receiving the proper help to thrive is completely antithetical to Milgram's goals. Something that many people who have played Caligula Effect would recognize Yamanaka understands very well and is capable of portraying that sort of character growth in ways while still not always correct are far more kinder and encouraging of progress than Milgram will ever be.
Because this is Milgram; it's not about the characters finding closure or becoming better versions of themselves. It's about sin and judgment- Crime and punishment. Sinners and executioners. This is reiterated in the first novel to an extent as well.
Outside of that canon statement- Yamanka stated on the Milgram App early into the series that there are no connections between Milgram and Caligula Effect,
Tumblr media

It's a completely new world.
Side note it is very fun seeing the creator comments within that doc. My favorite of trial two these several for personal reasons- I will be analyzing these forever actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really like how Deco just points out "I wanted to be loved like a cat" perfectly embodies Kazui's character. I love how with the discussion of Purge March it's the second time a prisoners ideology has been referred to so bluntly. The third one is just like yeah tell me the obvious one more time baby!
Also the way Deco highlights paying attention to the tone in It's Not My Fault is just really good too-
Tumblr media
Like,
"Listen closely to the subtle inflections in the vocals."
This is something that has also been discussed when it comes to the musician covers of the their songs in Caligula Effect Overdose. It is something showcased very well in Stork's self-cover of Lovescope. Using him as the example here because he shares a voice actor with Shidou and I need to spread the cursed knowledge.
So, fans of Caligula Effect do have an unfair advantage when it comes to Milgram because they'd be more used to how Yamanaka and to an extent Deco create a narrative through the use of music.
Also these may be my favorites but all of the comments regarding the songs on the app are very informative and I would recommend giving them a look over if anyone has the time.
This is just turning into advertising this Google Doc at this point. Go read it. It's great and informative. I really like it. It's well put together and easy and sift through. Plus have multiple translations to compare and contrast allow me to get a clearer idea of the situation as someone who's always had an issue with comprehending text.
But back on track- Yamanaka told the Milgram audience from the beginning that these two franchises had nothing to do with one another. This may have been done in attempt to avoid others falling victim to the assumption that Milgram would handle these topics in similar ways to Caligula Effect.
However, a writerā€™s creations will always hold their own unique touch within them. Something that can give people a glimpse into how the creator presents a topic or what topics a creator may enjoy putting a spotlight on. Something that may not only be pertinent to one of their works but others as well.
Attentive observers may very will become acutely aware of a creators style and creative habits over time. The audienceā€™s ability to do this with a creators work is ultimately what creates a fandom around those works. It may very well do the opposite at times too. Since at times people will understand the point that a creator is trying to make through their creation agree or disagree with that point and still hate the execution.
Or even that the point was illustrated at all depending on the viewers subjective biases.
In the old,
"You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink."
way.
So, regardless of how unrelated to Milgram Deco's and Yamanaka's past works are. They'll always be related through the fact that they share creators alone despite what the creators have to say on the matter. That's just one of the pitfalls of creating a lot of things in general there are bound to be comparisons of those things.
For example like the way Hao wound up being compared to Salamander.
Things like this are going to happen. Comparisons of ones creations with their other ones or even to the works of others are going to continue to occur even if someone tries to get ahead of it which Yamanaka did that was him getting ahead of it.
Even still comparisons are things people commonly make as well as how many individuals engage with and analyze the information in front of them. So, yes regardless of how often one says certain things are not related to each other if they are in close proximity to one another connections will wind up being made. People are going to be able to relate it back to something said creator made in the past or even works completely unrelated to the creator that predate or succeed the work being compared.
However, it still matters and is a indisputable fact that these things are completely unrelated to one another and treating them as they could be would stop people from enjoying Milgram in the way it was intended to be enjoed.
It's still fun to think about despite that. I do believe it is important to note that the this is not the intended viewing experience. Like one of the creators bluntly stated so.
Just as Yamanaka also stated many of times that the cover songs have nothing to do with the story. They just pick whatever best suits the character or would be fun.
Tumblr media
Source: Yamanaka's Marshmallow
Other fun things of note,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Either way, the prisoners covering these songs have nothing to do with their murders. It's a fun fanservice kind of like special tailored karaoke.
Yuno didn't decide to do what she did one day simply because she went and sung Vampire. This is a given no one is saying that's what occurred here. Yet, it's still fun to delve into what this says about the prisoners character in the same way people think,
"Hm I wonder what my favorite song says about me." It's just a neat thing.
No one's saying,
"Oh, because so and so covered this that means this is their crime."
However, once these songs have been related to the characters and franchise in some way people are going to want to think about why. Especially since Milgram is a series that's prone to having bursts of content and then none for long stretches of time.
Discussing the covers is just another way to lengthen the discussions fans can have around the series during said downtime.
Observable writing quirks/tendencies.
It's the same with discussing the Caligula Effect series.
Because the more one knows about Caligula Effect the easier it becomes to see the similarities between the characters within it and the ones within Milgram. Even if at times those similarities can be incredibly surface level.
Like got damn Yamanaka how many times are you going to create characters that are cops?
I don't care if Kazui may be lying about everything it's still like three times at most and two at best my guy. There's only two Caligula Games- In both someone is a cop. We're two for two. That's already two too many. If there's a third game chances are high there will be another cop.
Like at that point it's a bit of writing pattern despite how unrelated these things are. I'm just gonna throw that out there.
That's not even touching on both series using Es within their naming conventions. Caligula Effect taking place in Metaverse-Es and the prisoner guards within Milgram being referred to as Es. Both stories relying on music when it comes to displaying the mentalities of certain characters.
Given all of those points, it's a little unsurprising Caligula Effect would have characters on both sides of its cast that would be reminiscent of the prisoners in some way to those familiar with Milgram.
For example Shogo displays his regret similarly to how Kazui does. Something that leads me to speculate that to an extent the suicide framing of his sin is a projection of Shogo's storyline onto Kazui's character. Since that's a part of his narrative.
So, when I run into the idea of any of the prisoners murders not being direct murders that are a consequence of their mentalities and choices. Something that Jackalope blatantly tells the viewer,
"The fact of having committed murder in their lives is a direct result from the thoughts each espoused and their individual environments."
Yet, instead their murders are indirect deaths or suicides caused through negligence/just their everyday mannerisms. As well as when the prisoners situations are presented as very abstract themes that wouldn't count as murder unless someone had a very serious issue with conflating minor inconveniences to extreme grievances.
I just want to do some equivalent of this-
Tumblr media
Because that's just these games really. I even went as far as to describe Caligula Effect as the Barney version of Milgram to a friend. It's like babies first interaction with cruelty and the concept of people being assholes.
It's never really as extreme as Milgram can get except when it comes to Overdose exclusive characters. Still all the games manage to get the point across. This is why I find it very easy to find comparisons between the prisoners and the Caligula cast.
The easiest characters to make comparisons to off the top of my head being #QP and Mahiru. A more difficult to catch one in my opinion would be the similarities between Machina and Shidou- Since from what I have heard Shidou tends to be compared to Doktor more so.
I believe this is because like with Kazui it's really easy to compare the prisoners to other characters they seem to share a profession with. It just gives a good jumping off point to work from.
I tend to lean more towards comparing him to Machina because both his first glitched voice line and Triage put on full display to me that his first run in with death may have been the death of his family members later in life. So much later in fact that he couldn't even fully understand what he was having people reckon with until it happened to him. The fact that Shidou is like this from the start ultimately leaves an avenue for Kotoko's stance to have some credibility regardless off if she was found Guilty from the jump or not.
Since Shidou is a walking example of how sometimes the only way for certain people to learn that what they're doing is wrong is by experiencing it for themselves.
"[cackling] Not dead... Yeah, she's definitely not dead... I finally understand the value of what I've been robbing people of."
This comparisons can wind up lead to relating Shidou to Sasara a member of the Go Home Club who's heavily associated if not thematically paired with Machina. Someone else who despite being the eldest in 2 is just now coming to terms to death as she has to come to terms with the end of her life. Very similarly to Shidou she doesn't really grasp it before this because she didn't really have to face it head on in this way before and thought very little of it.
It's not as though she has any regrets either. Her life is fine. In fact the only reason she's here is because she just wanted to live her life over. Not because she regretted anything in particular it was just so good she wanted to do it again.
In contrast Machina has been reckoning with the concept of death from a far younger age. It's implied that he quite recently lost a family member to it and has been stricken with a fear of death since that incident. Wishing to become a cyborg in order to avoid it and not being able to reckon with the fact with every breath taken we all move ever closer to our own inevitable demise.
His song having choice Shidou esque lines such as-
"I wished for those days to remain idyllic. I wished for the power to protect them. Even if it costs me everything I have."
And the remix starting with the repeated spiraling line of-
"I can't stand it, I can't stand it, I can't stand it. I can't stand it, I can't stand it, I can't stand it. I can't stand it, I can't stand it- I can't stand it what a tragedy it is to be doomed to death at birth."
While the regular version begins with,
"Once you draw your last remaining breath even memories you have clung to will scatter into ash. As I realize what a curse a beating heart is the mourners gather and laugh at a hollow coffin."
Machina is at the most of middle school age. This kid was just going through it. Don't believe me here's what the game said on it outside of the song,
In his first year of middle school, his grandmother passed, profoundly impacting his views on mortality.
Machina was not particularly close with his grandmother. Though she spoiled him as a child, he began talking to her less and less as he grew into an adolescent. She passed soon thereafter, marking the first time an immediate relative had died.
Machina became so afraid of death that he couldn't even breath without being in mortal terror of his own inevitable decay at the hands of death itself.
As he continued to study death, he learned about a structure in human cells known as "telomeres."
Telomeres are shortened every time a cell divides. Once they fall below a critical limit, new cells can no longer form, spelling death.
In other words, even just the mere act of existence marches one toward an inexorable end.
It's a simple fact, really. No matter how meaningfully one lives, how happy they are, or how carefully they avoid harm and injury, as long as their cells continue to divide, they too will die. Upon realizing that human life was but a one-way ticket with a final destination, Machina fell into the depths of despair.
Though he knew it was a fool's errand, he would hold his breath and try to stay in bed, living life with as little activity as possible in hopes it would keep death at bay, if even slightly.
He stopped going to school, and was beset by panic attacks each night.
I want to feel ā€œaliveā€, is it ok if I breathe?
The answer for Machina was,
No, it's not.
Because to breath is to die a million small deaths as your cells divide as though counting down to the end of your lifespan. Like a cursed hourglass full of cells instead of sand.
Which wouldn't be applicable to any other thing ever actually,
Tumblr media
Nope not one thing this can be applied to.
A times it's pretty easy to draw comparisons between these two series. Even outside of the fact both creators Milgram worked on these games. Deco making the song Love Scope for Stork in Caligula Effect Overdose.
Whether the character the prisoners are compared to is a musician or a Go Home Club member matters very little. This is because within Caligula the Go Home Club Members and the Musicians generally parallel each other in some ways anyhow. So comparing a prisoners to any of them will inevitably lead to comparing them to someone else in the series.
Plus, the cast in Caligula tends to be visually paired off in a way that helps that stand out more. As well as in ways that most Milgram fans would be familiar with. Such as youngest and oldest which is the case with Sasara and Machina.
However, Milgram fans should be familiar with this since itā€™s used again in Milgram with Kazui and Amane.
In Caligula Effect Yamanaka uses the juxtaposition of these characters ages to discuss the concept and fear of death. Something that does wonders as it highlights how someone at the end of their life displays their fear of death by trying to rush towards it as though that gives them anymore control over it occurring while someone younger will try to avoid it even if that avoidance hinders them from truly living.
In either case the fear is still there and very real. If not incredibly debilitating in some or most ways.
Due to the nature of Caligula Effect where there are no wrong parties only wrongs being done.
Don't get me wrong there are some objectively in the wrong parties within the narrative. In fact every character here is objectively wrong at some point. I believe some people like to trick themselves into believing the characters in Caligula Effect Overdose were the worst of them and the ones in two are so much better actually.
Yet, the ones within two are also terrible. They're just tentatively politically correct while being terrible.
Which is a very superficial way to define if someone is a bad person. On top of that they don't remain politically correct at all times either.
Everyone's Bad Here
Firstly this series is named Caligula Effect. The Caligula Effect is a term used in Japan to describe the desire to do something that is forbidden or socially unacceptable.
Tumblr media
Source: Den Faminico Gamer interview with The Caligula Effect producer Takuya Yamanaka (The DigiLab)
Given that it should be no surprise that none of the behaviors or mannerisms displayed in either of these games are meant to be viewed a admirable or healthy. The character discussed in this answer is from Caligula Effect Overdose though.
So let's turn it back to the second games cast real quick. Remember how in the previous segment I stated they don't remain politically correct. Well that's because some of them are really ableist which I've never seen discussed outside of Doktor. I definitely believe it should be because like one of the Go Home Club members is ableist too.
Just blatantly. So, like actually...
This character literally tells the player yeah killing someone is better than letting them live with a possible physical disability. Like just blatantly agrees with Doktor. I guess they get a pass because internalized ableism is a thing though. Even if it's internalized it's still fucking ableism. I mean just because someone points it at themselves too doesn't make them better than any other fucking ableist- But okay.
This is the space to work on yourself this isn't about crime and punishment. This isn't about sin.
You know for me personally- if it's between using a mobility aid and being in the fucking ground... Um, ya know my pride ain't high enough to think the latter is better and more respectable. Call me ignorant but I'd rather be alive with some difficulties than dead.
This isn't the worst thing characters in Caligula Effect have done by the way.
Some of them are murderers too. Not just one of them multiple of them are murderers and attempted murderers. Yet, if we stay here all day talking about what murderers in the Caligula Effect series are forgivable in the eyes of the audience and which are not- Iā€™m gonna end up writing a tangent thatā€™s devolves into Marie is basically Eiji but a girl, more impoverished (Eiji was born into a finacially well off family his father was a lawyer with a law firm), different diagnosis (Eiji's issue is labeled as Psychopathy and Marie's Sociopathy in Caligula Effect Overdose) didnā€™t get kidnapped (had abusive family instead barring her grandma who was not abusive canonically), and happened to get a redemption arc (because she wasn't killed by a Final Destination style rube goldberg machine of shenanigans out of the clear blue fucking sky that wound up saving the life of another character that fell off a twenty story building).
I feel like I have the right to be mad actually.
Oh while also not having ableism imposed upon her characterization in a way that demonized and vilified her. She got hit with the we need to put you out off your misery ableism not the we need to spare ourselves from the misery of knowing people like you exist ableism. So, we're going to frame this as though there's something uniquely evil and fucked up about you actually and everyone else here is super normal. In fact some of them could tell you were evil just from the look in your eyes. You had the eyes of a snake not a normal person.
Oh, but it gets worse.
Marie canonically killed multiple people, abducted others, locked the first Go Home Club in a room for three days at a point only giving them cough drops before giving them drugged food-
Star here! Something to be noted; when this first happened, Gunsli enjoyed Marie doing this-
Gunsli : That is true when this first happened this was fine I very much enjoyed it. I was all for it really. That was before listening to people defend or outright ignore the things she did because,
"She was always really good deep down. I always knew it! Because I'm a great judge of character and I could never like an evil fictional character because what would that say about me? My fragile ego wouldn't be able to take it. I'd be crushed and it would be the works fault for tricking me. So she needs to be good because that's the only way for me to know I'm good."
Look past your ego it's really never that deep.
Liking an evil character- A fictional construct is fine as long as that like is not negatively impacting reality. Put the mirror down. Sometimes a character being bad and a person liking said character anyway doesn't reflect on that person at all unless they make it reflect on them which is their choice to.
Also, like... No she wasn't clearly good deep down, no one saw that ahead of time, most fans didn't even play these games in order. Or read the light novel where it basically states people saying your past doesn't matter are ignorant.
Back to the other things she did not that we've touched on that light novel- Attempted to push the one person who trusted her down a flight of stairs, framed another person that trusted her misleading their friends into believing they had betrayed them. Ruined countless friendships for her personal enjoyment in and outside of Mobius. She was doing that like she was trying to win the gold in shit starting. Marie was in that bitch like this when it came to instigating.
While Eiji, to the stories own admission, never kills anyone with his with his own hands. Now hold on before you start thinking what the hell- Eiji Biwasaka is still a terrible person too. He believes there's no way men and women can just be friends (wink-wink , nudge- nudge he texts this to the protagonist by the way). Is heavily implied to be in love with the protagonist in subtle ways like many characters in the series are. This isn't a crime just fun to note because if the protagonist takes the betray route and he's there he is genuinely upset. How do I know this?
I kept him alive because I wanted to see his reaction when I did it. Moving forward.
He's mostly upset that the protagonist didn't let him in on it which is funny and fair. Then genuinely enraged by the betrayal and is like you have to die now for pulling one over on him. Which again aww you- stay mad about it. He gets egregiously upset at the protagonist trying to get to know him on a deeper level and is acutely angered by criticism or being told what to do in any capacity.
Literally any form consequence for his actions he does not take kindly.
He tries to attack Kuchinashi. Almost hitting her with his catharsis weapon which is a whip. Similar to what a character within two does to one of the musicians but seemingly gets no flack for it. Like, um, well- Ya know that character is not Eiji. Certainly the character is still great in their own ways but got damn Eiji Biwasaka was something else. That man was trash. Absolute garbage and I am dumpster diving. You got me fucked up if you think I wasn't there for it.
It was amazing. He did not wanna change. He was never going to change. He leaves because he didn't want to change.
He literally removes himself from the narrative and team because the protagonist tries to hold him accountable. Then still somehow manages to get where the plot is. Because he was that competent. Certainly he had to die in a Final Destination esque way nothing else could've killed him. Unimportant side note here he's trying to murder someone within Mobius. Even though that person is a terrible piece of shit he is still trying to kill them.
Not because they're terrible but because leaving them alive may end up causing him trouble in the long run.
This is because he blackmailed this other party into killing someone that was taking Eiji to court for embezzling from the elderly (the mother of the man taking him to court) and the disabled (not the mother he had just been embezzling for a while). He did this even though everything for the case was gathered and he'd be facing prison time regardless. He just did that shit as a fuck you on the way out because he could. It did not serve him in any way.
How did he blackmail this guy well by bringing up his insanity plea was in fact bullshit and he could hypothetically have this man retried or that plea brought under scrutiny. Because as I mentioned before this man was acquitted and then continued to do the same shit. So, don't get it twisted Eiji and Marie are no better or worse than each other.
However, in contrast to Marie who is indulged throughout all of the first game or you can't even continue her character story Eiji is actively stopped from killing this guy. A guy who physically assaulted a person in an underground idol group with a baseball bat blinding her.
Something that led to her suicide later.
Which might I note! Eiji is blamed for that suicide not the guy who fucking did the assault! No, not him. Eiji's blamed for her suicide because he did his job as a lawyer and got this guy acquitted on a plea of insanity. Then to add insult to injury the guy who did the assault then still behaves in a way that showcases he will continue to be this way and do those things again to other idols.
Is given that same excuse again like,
"No, he's clearly mentally unwell."
Okay he's clearly mentally unwell- Eiji should have known better though. He's just evil. He doesn't need help fuck that guy!
Oh, Marie do you need a hand? Do need a special little safe space in Mobius to work out all your issues. Here you go Ī¼ (Mu) giftwrapped it for you too sweetie. You want brand new adoptive parents- Don't worry that's included take all the time you need!
The difference between how I treat my angelic daughter versus my rat bastard son.
The difference in writing does show Yamanaka's development as a scenario writer and personal growth when it comes to portraying these issues. However it is literally the difference between night and day.
Also both of these people are Go Home Club members.
I think I may have failed to mention that before. I just really wanted people to grasp the severity of their actions before I mentioned it really. These are your teammates. The people you're trying to get home with.
Other things done by teammates include but aren't limited too,
Fatphobia, transphobia, doxing, harassment, sexual harassment, negligence resulting in death, child abandonment/neglect, assault, cyber terrorism (which the protagonist of one can take part in), classism, sexism (misandry), identity theft, insurgency, stalking, false imprisonment, murder, attempted murder, generally be hateful spiteful people with the strongest hater energy on earth at times, literally being musicians before Go Home Club Members (which isn't a crime but counts towards the point here and occurred twice).
Marie, however, is essentially is given dissociative identity disorder by virtue of a new set of memories being created for her- ones separated from her trauma and it's subsequent effects. She also, as mentioned in this post, was given a pocket dimension so she could have the space and time to grow independently from that trauma.
This pocket dimension is a smaller subsect of Mobius and relies on Marie's existence within it to function.
It is also possible to get an alternative ending of and get out of this micro-mobius earlier by killing her. This is one of the endings I decided to get. So, from here we know that the protagonists of the Caligula Effect games can commit murder, commit cyber terrorism that ends up destroying the entire world at most and on the smallest scale Japan if the player choses to, betray all of their teammates that they make over the course of the game very similarly to what Marie does in one.
So, once again- I'm not faulting the grind I'm just stating the crimes.
All in order to make it clear to anyone reading this much that no one here is a good person. So it does not matter if some prisoners are Go Home Club members or musicians being on or the other does not make any prisoner better or worse. Everyone here is bad.
Go Home Club or Musician
Okay, so I bet some are wondering why I said all that. I must admit it was a very long way of getting to this point. However, I basically wanted to make it abundantly clear to anyone who comes across this that whether a character is Musician or part of the Go Home Club in Caligula Effect it does not equate to them being a good person.
Because the characters in Caligula Effect are not good people. They're not and they aren't meant to be.
The characters within the Caligula Effect series are individuals that have a lot of work to do on themselves. Who are in Mobius either by choice or due to the fact that they were suffering in reality/had regrets that they felt they could not change in the real world. They are all individuals who chose escapism over facing their issues head on and the series discusses the benefits and shortcomings of living that way.
Most if not all of them wound up in Mobius due to someone's misguided attempt in trying to help them.
I felt it was necessary to highlight hey the Go Home Club doesn't equal the heroes and the Musicians don't equate to the villains. They are just two groups in opposition of each other. There are people just as bad if not worse in both teams.
The only thing that decides whether someone will be in the Go Home Club or a Musician is their desire to go home.
If the character wants to go home or has doubts about Mobius in general they will fall into the Go Home Club category. If the character wants to stay in Mobius and believes full heartedly they can gain something from it even if they only plan to do that and then leave- That's a musician.
The musicians turned Go Home Club Members literally only become that later because they genuinely do want to go home and face those issues head on despite their doubts. This is one of the things that make it pretty clear that Caligula Effect is more so about rehabilitation and the many forms that can take.
So as much as I'd like to go this is who I'd like to be Musician's and Go Home Club members. The answer that I provided at the beginning of this is firmly rooted within this logic. Since we can see where the characters lie in regards to this based on how they engage with Milgram itself.
The characters have gone on record voicing their misgivings about Milgram or the fact that they are in favor of it. Some even going as far as blatantly stating that they want to go home or never want to leave.
Something that made this a lot easier to figure out once I looked at it from that angle. At least when it comes to answer this in a way that works off of Caligula Effect's own logic to some degree. This is why I highlighted that musicians do become go home club members.
Because it shows the possibility of switching between the two parties at ones discretion. Something the series plays around with itself in many ways.
So let's start with the Go Home Club prisoners. (And heads up, this section is being written up by @sinfulequity o/. Also as a heads up, I used Rochi's translations for the portal timelines and questionings!)
Yuno
Now Yuno starts off not minding being here. But even from the beginning, you can tell that she doesn't consider staying here permanently as an option
Es: [clears throat] Itā€™s about the few days youā€™ve been tried as a prisoner by Milgram. Frankly speaking, how is it? Your life in prison. Yuno: Hmm, itā€™s surprisingly fun? I do have worries about how my family is doing, butā€¦ Itā€™s kinda like one of those strange, personal experiences.Ā  Es: Funā€¦is it? Yuno: Thatā€™s right. The other prisoners are all entertaining, we sound each other out on various things, and the vibeā€™s pretty nice as well. In such conditions, observing other people sure does make for great fun, you feel?
Due to the atmosphere, she is enjoying herself- but that changes in the interim between trial one and trial two alluded to in this portal timeline.
21/07/05Ā (Muā€™s Birthday) Mu: Yuno. Donā€™t you have something to say to me? Yuno: Huh? To you? Me? ā€¦ā€¦ahh, uh? Your birthday, right? Happy birthday~ Mu: How meanā€¦ Since itā€™s my birthday, I really wish youā€™d said something before I had to come and tell you myself. Yuno: Right, right, Iā€™m sorry. Iā€™ll be more careful in future~ Later! Hahaā€¦ things have become even more of a botherā€¦ā€¦ā€¦so was that Mu-chanā€™s real personality, then? Itā€™s probably because the guard did something, right?
By the time the second trial has started, whatever fun she gained from being in milgram has vanished. Only leaving her with the desire to get out of there. Even going so far as to question Es if they really believe that this environment is enjoyable any more.
Yuno: Well, if I were to say what Iā€™m trying to sayā€¦itā€™s fucking bothersome. Es: ā€¦ Yuno: I said so at the start, didnā€™t I? That punishing people outside of the law is boundless. And so I had no interest in Milgram. Es: Yes, I remember. You said that you would pay my judgment no mind and remain as you were. Yuno: Oh! Thatā€™s right! Iā€™m happy you remembered. But, you know, I didnā€™t exactly hate it, Milgram. Itā€™s nothing but weird people but it was warmer than my day-to-day life. Es: It did appear as though you were having fun. Yuno: Yes, it was fun! They may be murderers, but theyā€™re interesting people! It puts me at ease, in a way, that weā€™re all people lacking in something. Es: You are saying that that changed and itā€™s my fault? Yuno: Yep! This situationā€™s bothersome-ness has won out over the fun so I am extremely cooled off. That is all. Es: ā€¦ Yuno: And? Are you satisfied with this situation? Es: You all are murderers. In order to clarify your sins, this job is necessary. Milgram will make clear your essences and truths- Yuno: That. Does it not hold up unless you desperately repeat it back to yourself?
This is further explored in her answers for the second trial questioning. Outright stating that she's bored and wants to leave and passive aggressively implying that Milgram doesn't really have a true purpose, since the law already exists.
Q.03Ā Do you want to leave Milgram? Yuno: To be honest Iā€™m bored of it now. I kinda want to leave already Q.19 Would you forgive the other prisoners? Yuno: Thatā€™s not something for one person to decide on their own Isnā€™t that what we have laws for?
It's a bit reminiscent of how she treats Mu now, right?
Futa
Most of his first voice drama is about wanting to get out of Milgram. If it isn't about that, then it's him getting flustered over how Es is pushing him. But here are a few specific moments
Es: Whatā€™s wrong? Are you so paralysed with fear that you canā€™t even stand up? Futa: Donā€™t mock me! Anyways, I wonā€™t even accept that Iā€™m a prisoner. Bringing me to this weird-ass place is a violation of my human rights! Es: You wonā€™t accept that youā€™re a prisonerā€”is that so?Ā  Futa: Of course I wonā€™t! Youā€™re confining and imprisoning an innocent human being here! That makes you so much more of a fucking criminal, doesnā€™t it? All of the other guys have just obediently accepted it for some reason, but you wonā€™t fool me!
Futa: Hey, hey, hey, hey! Donā€™t go around evaluating people like youā€™re better than everyone else. Once I get outta here, Iā€™m so gonna sue this place! You as well! You better not be thinking that youā€™ll get off scot-free! Es: Hmm~? Futa: Iā€™ll never forgive you bad guys. And, this place is called Milgramā€”Iā€™ll crush it down as well!Ā
After the interim and trial two's start, this desire to get out of Milgram has strengthened. For the reasons of being harassed by intrusive thoughts and taking a walloping from Kotoko.
Futa: Rightā€¦! It wasnā€™t just me alone who was ganging up on the person who died! Thereā€™s no way to know whose comments lead to their death! Es: That might be true. You might not be the only one who needs to be judged for this. Butā€¦ Futa: Then ā€“ isnā€™t it weird that Iā€™m the only one who has to go through all of this? Being locked up in a weird nonsensical prison, having to let some brat lecture me, being faced with eyes constantly judging meā€¦ And even ifā€“ even if the person I was picking on online diedā€¦ I didnā€™t think they would die! I just thought that wrong things are wrong, and that a crime is a crime! You get that, donā€™t you? See? Arenā€™t we the same?
As he himself states, he finds it odd that he was the only person picked out of a large group to be in Milgram. He doesn't want to be here, he doesn't find this fair and he's at the limit of his sanity.
Mu
Mu is a tricky one, because you would think that she wants to stay here (outside of the initial anxiety in trial one)
Es: Hmā€¦ So thatā€™s the case, is it? Howā€™s life in Milgram then? Mu: I canā€™t even begin to describe it. I just want to hurry up and go back home!Ā  Es: Oh? Why is that? You lot are given a decent amount of freedom here. Weā€™re granting you the few indulgences which exist as well. In fact, even youā€™ve sent in a request asking for a crepe cake as well.Ā  Mu: Thatā€™sā€¦ Thatā€™s true, butā€¦ And, I did eat the crepe cake, butā€¦ I just really wanna go home. Es: Hm. Mu: Iā€™m sure that mummy and daddy are worried about me! [cries again] What even is this place? Why did you even have to bring me here?Ā
Mu: Yeah, it is. Prison guard, youā€™re human as well, soā€¦ Iā€™ll do my best. Iā€™ll figure out what kinda person youā€™re fond of. Even though youā€™re a sad case who talks to rabbits. [giggles] Es: Thatā€™s enough. Our conversations donā€™t have any flow to them, so thatā€™s not gonna happen.Ā  Mu: Iā€™ll definitely return home. Iā€™ll return home to mummy and daddy. So, if I get you to forgive me, Iā€™ll be able to go back home for sure, right? Es: I donā€™t really know. Mu: Yeahā€¦ Actuallyā€¦ If I think about it, compared to those good-for-nothing police trying to catch meā€”someone whoā€™s definitely not in the wrongā€”Milgram might just be better for me.
As we all can see, she states that maybe Milgram would be a better place for her to stay. At least in comparison to the prospect of being arrested and tried by the police. However, that is a coercive line of thinking, in and of itself. It's like being between a rock and a hard place. Furthermore, it implies that were the police not an issue, she'd immediately want to go back home again. And despite how comfortable she has gotten, Mu shows a good deal of concern towards how her parents are doing/worrying about her.
20/06/17 Shidou: ā€¦ā€¦do you mind if we talk? It seems youā€™ve relaxed a bit more recently, Kusunoki-kun. Mu: Ehā€¦ā€¦ yeah, definitely compared to the startā€¦ā€¦ just a bit. But Iā€™m still scaredā€¦ā€¦ we still donā€™t know what they might do to us. I want to go home soonā€¦ā€¦ I wonder whatā€™s happening thereā€¦ā€¦ Papa and Mama must be really worriedā€¦ā€¦ Shidou: Thatā€™s goodā€¦ā€¦ You were crying so much, so I was concerned for you.ā€¦ā€¦yeah, Iā€™m sure. Your family will definitely be worrying about you. Iā€¦ā€¦ hope you can go back soon. Mu: Shidou-sanā€¦ā€¦ did you come here to comfort meā€¦ā€¦? Iā€™m sorry, Iā€™d thought you wereā€¦ā€¦ a scary personā€¦ā€¦ fufu.
03 - ā€œIt was really scary at the beginning, but now itā€™s nice and laid-back. And alsoā€¦ Haruka-kun is really nice! Heā€™ll listen to anything I tell him.ā€ 05 - ā€œIā€™ve been starting to think that maybe Iā€™d like to stay here foreverā€¦ The outside world only ever does bad things to me. Though, Iā€™d be a bit sad that I wouldnā€™t get to see papa and mama againā€¦ā€
Mu: Ah, itā€™s been a while, Warden-san. ā€“ Things have gotten tough, havenā€™t theyā€¦ Everyone seems to be struggling and the whole atmosphere feels tense because everyoneā€™s struggling, itā€™s really troublesome. Es: Is that so? Mu: But as for me, I think Milgram has become a lot more comfortable! I know now that I can get whatever I want if I ask for it, so I donā€™t need to be so on edge anymore. Es: ā€¦ Mu: You did say that you and Milgram are our allies, and maybe you were right all along!
She's ultimately carved a place for herself in Milgram. However, she also won't let the "setting" of Milgram affect how she considers herself.
Mu: Anywayā€¦ I think you would do good to forgive me. Then Haruka-kun will be safe too. Ah, actually, couldnā€™t you just forgive everyone? Then Kotoko-san wonā€™t run amok, and you wonā€™t have to think about all the difficult stuff. Es: That isā€¦ a very attractive proposal. Mu: Right? (giggles) Es: Abandoning all the thinkingā€¦ How nice it would be if I could just do that. Mu: ā€¦ If you ask me, I donā€™t really get why you donā€™t do itā€¦ Es: Because this is the role Iā€™m playing. Mu: But the role was given to you, wasnā€™t it? You didnā€™t end up doing this because you wanted to, right? Itā€™s not a dream youā€™ve had for a long time or anything, right, Warden-san? So thereā€™s no need to let it tie you down. Couldnā€™t you just quit? Es: What are youā€¦ Mu: Warden-san, we call you ā€œWardenā€ because thatā€™s what you are, right? I was assigned to be a prisoner, but that doesnā€™t mean my heart will become just that of a ā€œprisonerā€ too. After all, Iā€™m still me.
Kazui
Funny- for someone who said he's going to take a wait and see approach, he comes straight out of the gate about his intent to find a way out to Es
Kazui: Really ā€“ sorry, sorry! I really had no intention of causing you harm, Warden-kun. I was simply looking to safely gather some information and assess the situation in this prison a little better. Es: Huh? Kazui: You see, depending on who they are, once someone is here it might be impossible for them to break out. I'm the oldest here, so naturally, I should be the one testing how far we can go against you.
He goes on to explain in his first questioning that he does have concerns about Milgram but doesn't want to express them.
Q.20Ā Do you have any complaints about your imprisonment? Kazui: I mean I do have some. But yā€™know, thereā€™s some things about it that are so far removed from daily life. Itā€™s easier to just not think too hard about it.
Progressing to trial two, Kazui is now disappointed in Milgram. It gave such high expectations for itself, and how it could judge crimes deemed fine by the law and-
Kazui: I havenā€™t forgiven myselfā€¦ even if my lies are forgiven, it wonā€™t resonate [with me]. It might just be both of these. All the lies Iā€™ve told are tying me down. Ever since I was little, Iā€™ve never truly opened myself to anyone. But in the end, people canā€™t be saved if they donā€™t [open up]. And by now, itā€™s gotten to a point where I canā€™t do it by myself anymoreā€¦ (machinery whirrs, bell rings) Kazui: I did think Milgram would be able to force its way past that, though. Es: Is that an attempt at provocation? Kazui: You didnā€™t manage to reach my sin. Es: ā€¦ Kazui: Even though I want you toā€¦ Milgram isnā€™t so great after all, is it?
-it really is better to be a let down, than let down, huh.
Mikoto
He has also stated from the start that he didn't want to be here. He has a job after all! He has rent to pay, obligations to meet- are you going to take care of it guard? You better, you know~
Es: Your name and age? Mikoto: Uhā€¦ Mikoto Kayano, 23. Wait, no! Iā€™ve been wanting to talk to you this whole time, Warden-kun! Es: What is it? Make it short. Mikoto: Alrightā€¦ when is this whole thing going to end? Es: Hah? Mikoto: No, itā€™s obvious, isnā€™t it?! Suddenly being dragged to a place like this, being told all this weird stuff about killers and all thatā€“ is this some kind of comedy? A reality TV show? One of those monitoring things? Iā€™ve been holding on to that thought this whole time, and that was also the reason I tried to get along with the others, y'know ā€“ because thatā€™ll look better on a TV show, right?! ā€“ but look, this is stretching out for way too longā€¦! Whatā€™s up with this? Es: (sigh) You really still believe that? That Milgram is some kind of joke? Mikoto: I do! Of course I do! I meanā€¦ I really donā€™t remember anything of note. Even if you talk about sins or murderersā€“ I donā€™t know about any of that! Iā€™m just a normal worker at a companyā€¦
Mikoto: Whatā€™s with that?! Then arenā€™t you getting ahead of yourself, just labelling me a murderer like that? Es: Iā€™m not. Milgram tells me that you did it. Thatā€™s enough for me. Mikoto: Why are you just blindly believing that? Thereā€™s no way of getting through to youā€¦! (sigh) Anyway. I really donā€™t know anything! Nor have I killed anybody, or done anything bad! I was just living an ordinary, everyday lifeā€¦ and yet I got dragged into something this weird! (slams hands on the desk) Of course I want to think of all this as a jokeā€¦! Wouldnā€™t anyone? Es: (non-committal hum) Mikoto: I have my own life, you know? And I just got accepted into the company that I was aiming forā€¦ If I get fired, youā€™ll have to take responsibility for that.
Oh? What's that guard? He's being blamed for something he hasn't even done? For shame, for shame! Do you know how much this will hurt an innocent- no, an honest man?
04 - ā€œItā€™s just so much that I donā€™t understand. Honestly. Why do I have to face this kind of fateā€¦? I canā€™t do this.ā€
Mikoto: Usually, if you just laugh and pretend, things work out in the end, right? Iā€™m pretty good at that. Making things work out to the best of my abilities. Es: Is that soā€¦ Mikoto: (laughs) ā€¦Butā€¦ itā€™s not coming to an end. All of this. With things Iā€™ve never even heard before, the whole tiā€” Es: ā€¦ Mikoto: ā€”the whole timeā€¦ I have to make all these irritating experiencesā€¦!
He is stressed. He is reaching his limit. Can't you let off just a little? Isn't it unfair to punish someone for dreaming?
Es: In precise terms, itā€™s called dissociative identity disorder. Generally speaking, it refers to when a person experiences severe pain or stress, and a new personality is created to try and isolate the original personality from the resulting trauma. Mikoto: Yeah. Iā€¦ probably come out to ease the stress Boku experiences. The fact that I come out for longer just means that Boku is constantly under extreme stress. Es: Stressā€¦ Namely the environment of Milgram, right? Mikoto: Right. Especially the fact that you judged against forgiving Boku is causing a lot of stress. Thatā€™s why heā€™s entrusting me with his heart.
Es: Even if it was you, John, who was in your body at the time ā€“ thereā€™s no way for you to prove that. At the very least not in a way that would be accepted in court. It could still be judged that youā€™re pretendingā€” Mikoto: Youā€¦!! What do you think? Es: Iā€¦? Mikoto: Iā€™m the one who did it! Boku didnā€™t do it! You know that because of Milgram! I donā€™t care about the law, I want to know what you think!
Don't worry; he'll forgive you if you choose right- right?
And now for the Musician prisoners.
Haruka
This shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone who's noticed, but he holds Milgram in high regard. It's the first place he's felt fully accepted. He's also started to learn how to connect with people in here- something he felt he always had difficulty with before
Es: Iā€™m the prison guard. That just now is how Iā€™ll educate you prisoners. Iā€™m allowed to do so. [grabs Haruka] Got that? Listen carefully, prisoner number one. Iā€™ll say it any number of times. Iā€™m the prison guard. Understanding your true nature is my job. No matter what you are or whatever nasty work youā€™ve done, Iā€™ll see all of it. Making judgments is my job. To say something like thatā€¦ ā€œYouā€™ll be abandonedā€? Donā€™t take me so lightly. Until I know your sins and complete my judgement as to whether theyā€™re forgivable or unforgivable, youā€™re objects for me to govern(2) Donā€™t think Iā€™ll let you escape.Ā  Haruka: Prison guardā€¦ Es: Wait a second, Haruka. What are you smirking for? Haruka: Ah, Iā€™m sorry. It must be creepy, right? Es: It does creep me out. [throws Haruka] Haruka: Ah, youā€™ve got it wrongā€¦ This is a strange thing to say, but it made me a bit happy. Es: Happy? Haruka: Yeah.Ā  Es: What an odd thing to say, even if Iā€™m the one saying that. Being imprisoned, being restrained, even being interrogated like this too, isnā€™t it natural to get angry in these kinds of situations? Hmā€¦ Now you mention it, you were always like that from the beginning. Thereā€™s a gloominess about you, but youā€™re immune to the chaos of Milgram itself. The point is, reacting like Futa and Mu would have made more sense. Haruka: Thatā€™s right. Futa got really angry. Scaryā€”Ah, no, I mean, this is Milgram, isnā€™t it? I donā€™t really know what itā€™s for. But, having you, the prison guard, take some interest in me, listening to the various things I sayā€¦ For some reason, it made me happy and such. Es: Hm.. Haruka: Even if that is your job. Even if itā€™s just to reveal the wrong things Iā€™ve done.
Q.12Ā Tell us your hobby. Haruka: I like talking with the other prisoners Q.22Ā What do you think of the prison outfits? Haruka: Theyā€™re kind of relaxing Q.23Ā Is there anything youā€™d like to have sent to you there? Haruka: Not particularly Q.25Ā When you get out of here, where do you want to go? Haruka: I canā€™t think of anywhere
As Milgram continued to progress, Haruka gains more confidence. And has grown more comfortable in Milgram as a result. He states that he likes himself now. He doesn't want to leave this environment that has been so accommodating to him.
Es: Youā€¦ Are you really Haruka Sakurai? Haruka: Eh? Wh-what are you saying? It is me! But everyone has been telling me that recently ā€“ that Iā€™ve changed. Es: Yeah. When I think back to how you were trembling in fear back during the first trialā€¦ you sure have gotten bolder. Haruka: (giggles) Es: I donā€™t know whether thatā€™s a good thing or a bad thing thoughā€¦ Haruka: (laughs) If Iā€™ve changed, then Iā€™m glad! Up until now, Iā€™ve always really hated myself, thatā€™s whyā€¦ Es: Hm? Haruka: A-ah, I think the reason Iā€™ve become like this is because I had two benefactors, and one of them is you, Warden-san, soā€“ Es: Huh? Haruka: I wanted to thank you, Warden-san! Es: Thank me? Haruka: Because you forgave me, Warden-san!
Q.01Ā Do you love yourself? Haruka: I think I like myself now Q.03Ā Do you want to leave Milgram? Haruka: I want to stay here forever Q.18 Which of the other prisoners is most like you? Haruka: Nobody Theyā€™re all amazing people
Well- maybe that'll change with this new verdict? Who's to say.
Shidou
Shidou wants one thing out of Milgram, and it's disgusting a death sentence. Preferably stamped and signed by a child (like Es).
Es: You sure are composed, arenā€™t you?Ā  Shido: Thatā€™s just my personality. I just simply donā€™t think bad of itā€”this place, I mean.Ā  Es: You mean, Milgram? Shido: Yeah, this place will put me to death.Ā  Es: What? Shido: I might not get a golden opportunity like this again, so Iā€™ll get straight to the point. Esā€¦ You decide how the prisoners will be dealt with, right?Ā  Es: Yeah. Thatā€™s right. Shido: The death penalty is what Iā€™m hoping for. Thank you in advance.Ā
However, with the ongoing events in Milgram, his viewpoint has become conflicted. He still wants to die, but he doesn't want others to. However, he's the closest thing to medical help that they have so he can't die just yet.
Shidou: Es-kun. Iā€™ve killed a lot of people. Like I previously told you in the interrogation, Iā€™ve killed for scientific reasons as well. Soā€¦ Es: Are you about to beg me not to forgive you again? Even though Iā€™ve already told you itā€™s no use? Shidou: Thatā€™s right. Please donā€™t forgive meā€¦ is what I would like to ask. Es: ā€¦ Shidou: Iā€¦ ā€œI donā€™t want to be forgivenā€. That feeling of mine remains the same. I need to be punished. I need to atone for my sins. I donā€™t think Milgram is in the right, butā€¦! There is no better place than this to atone for my crimes. Butā€¦ as long as Milgram continues like thisā€¦ we wonā€™t be able to save those who get injured if I donā€™t get forgiven!
Shidou: ā€¦ That wonā€™t doā€¦ I mustnā€™t be forgiven. Otherwiseā€¦ the countless lives Iā€™ve taken will never be paid back.Ā  Es: Heh. If youā€™re really trying to give your life as compensation for the people youā€™ve killed, then thereā€™s no reason to stay alive that will hold up, anyway.
Mahiru
It's not quite an intrinsic desire to stay in Milgram specifically. But what kind of girl wouldn't love a heart pounding adventure~? The mystery, the thrill- it's enough to make your heart burst!
Mahiru: [giggles] Just then, it felt like I was waiting for my date to arrive. Kinda made my heart flutter.Ā  Es: Iā€™m not exactly one to talk, butā€¦ Iā€™m surprised that you can say such a thing despite being in this prison. Mahiru: Really~? But, this unfamiliar setting makes things super romantic, you know? Thanks to it, every day has been such a delight.
20/06/10 Futa: Hey, why are you acting so carefree all the time? Youā€™re the oldest of the girls here, you should act it and deal with the others properly. Mahiru: Eh~? Iā€™m acting carefree~? But maybe youā€™re right. I mean, Iā€¦ā€¦ ah, letā€™s make this a quiz. Hey, Futa-kun. What do you think I like doing? Tick, tick, tick, tickā€¦ā€¦ Futa: Ahh, what even is this mood youā€™ve started. Itā€™s annoying. Just tell me the answer already. Mahiru: Bzzt! Timeā€™s up! The correct answer is ā€œtravellingā€ and ā€œexciting thingsā€~ You donā€™t get many chances at a lifestyle as exciting as this, right? So of course Iā€™m going to be a bit carefree, ufufu~
She may have endured a lot of pain in the interim period between trial one and two, but that doesn't stop her from enjoying Milgram and the people in it! It just means that she thinks her way of loving is unforgivable now.
05 - ā€œSpending my time at Milgram, Iā€™ve really grown to love everyone here. I love you as well, Es-kun! Butā€¦ me loving people canā€™t be forgiven, rightā€¦?ā€
Hey, tell her; what isn't she doing right?
Amane
Amane is very aware that Milgram isn't normal. But neither was her upbringing, so maybe she'll fit right in here? Maybe she'll fit in so much that the religion that she adheres to will fit like a glove. And if not... then that just makes this yet another trial from god, right?
Es: Geezā€¦ Youā€™re quite something for your age. Even most adults would be at least a bit anxious in an environment like this. Amane: Eh? Itā€™s not scary at all. After all, God is there to protect me! Es: In that aspect, you really are a childā€¦ Amane: Of course this is a rather unusual experience, but I am aware that it is something like a trial. I am certain that, once I have overcome this, I will be able to achieve further personal growth once more.
Amane: Hm. You may say itā€™s wrong, but isnā€™t what you are doing here a crime as well? Well, I do have something more important to me than the general law, so I will not try to judge(/look down on) you either, Warden-san. Es: Geez, youā€™re so stubbornā€“ Amane: You see! I donā€™t hate Milgram, either. Rather than one single law, there are other standards to judge my sins by. And those are closer to my spirit, as well!Ā  Es: Hmm. Amane: The standards that judge my sins are somewhere else ā€“ in my heart, my blood, my entire body, they are firmly rooted in all those places! Es: And within those standards, your murder was not a sin? Amane: Exactly! Es: I see. Amane: Ah, I am looking forward to it! Seeing whether your judgement will align with that of these higher standards! If that is the case, maybe Milgram would be the right world for us to live in, rather than the outside world! Milgram relies on your judgement, isnā€™t that right? In that case, you could become the mediator for a far more righteous world!!
Q.20Ā Do you have any complaints about your imprisonment? Amane: No, since this is a trial set for me by God.
Of course, being rejected and having those voices in her head between trial one and two wasn't helpful. But she's willing to talk this out. You've talked before and Amane is a kind girl, willing to give chances.
Amane: Warden. Es: What is it, Prisoner? Amane: Weā€™ve been disappointed by you. Es: Hah? Amane: Even though we could sense the possibility of the new world we desire here in Milgramā€¦ and in you. Es: I donā€™t care how much you look down on me. I told you that wonā€™t work. Amane: Furthermore, you may say incomprehensible things, such as us ā€œnot being forgivenā€ā€¦ Es: Oi. Amane: But we are generous. For now, let us make some time for a conversation with you. After all, our history is one that is built on dialogue.
Es: Shut your mouthā€¦! I am the one casting the judgements here! Amane: Hehehe. And how does that set you apart from us? Es: ā€¦ I told you to shut upā€¦ Listen to what Iā€™m telling you. Amane: Heheā€¦ This is nice. If the world youā€™re striving for is admirable in my eyesā€¦ That is to sayā€¦
Even to the sinners that deny her.
Kotoko
Kotoko has never really hid the fact that she wants to co-operate with Milgram- with Es. As someone who wants to work outside of the law, a place like Milgram is almost too good to be true.
Kotoko: Donā€™t space out, the interrogation isn't over. Es: A-ahh.. yeah. Kotoko: Eh, well, if you're done with it anyway, then itā€™s not a problem. Guard-san. Noā€¦ Es. Donā€™t you want to join forces with me? I think the two of us would make good partners. Es: Join.. forces with you? Kotoko: With you, in the role of a prison guard, with information you gather from the interrogations, and me, in the role of a prisoner, with information I gather from my daily life hereā€¦ Working together and sharing our findings. What do you think? Es: Stop joking around. Kotoko: Why? I think itā€™s quite a good bargain. Look, you can view the incident with Kayano Mikoto as a free trial-
Kotoko: Heh. I want to be like you. I refuse to tolerate sin.Ā  Es: You won't tolerate sin? Kotoko: Yes. I despise evil. Hurting the innocent through violence, taking away from others, killing peopleā€¦ I canā€™t stand it! There are too many cases of the law being unable to deliver a verdict to sinning. Just by exploiting the loopholes in the law, the sinners who have tortured and bullied the weak can still live out their lives unpunished! I want to change this world, but I alone only have so much power. Es: Kotokoā€¦Ā Ā  Kotoko: To be honest, I don't know your true intentions. And I don't know if you are a similar person to me with similar thoughts. In the end, I could be deluding myself with wishful thinking. Even still, this place has multiple methods of deducing good and evil. To me, MILGRAMā€™s very nature has a kind of charm to it. How about it? Do you understand me as a person now?
Q.01Ā Who exactly are you? Kotoko: Yuzuriha Kotoko The person who plans on becoming your fangs. Well, that all depends on you though.
21/10/26Ā (Kotokoā€™s First Trial) Kotoko: ā€¦ā€¦come, Es. Letā€™s fight together.
After having her mindset validated, Kotoko decided to take up her end of her proposed deal in full force. Force being the key word here. She is ready and willing to go at a moments notice (or even without one). Aren't you happy to have such a loyal partner? Hmm? She's acting like if she could take the power you hold at any time, she would?
02 - ā€œHeh. As expected, you wanted us to work together, huh? Iā€™ll be answering to your resolve and your expectations. With all the strength I have.ā€ 03 - ā€œI gave the prisoners that you didnā€™t forgive what they deserved. Going along with Milgramā€™s system, I didnā€™t go all-out yet. I figured youā€™d need some more time to think about it too. ā€¦Whatā€™s with that face?ā€ 04 - ā€œI did tell you to follow your intuition and that Iā€™d leave things to you, but youā€™re really going easy on them. I think I wouldā€™ve forgiven less people. Hmph, if only I was the warden [in this place]ā€¦ Well, no ill feelings, I guess.ā€
... That's probably just your imagination~ Well, it is what it is. After all, she knows just how taxing this much responsibility is on Es' poor little shoulders... Don't worry. She'll take that burden on.
Kotoko: I know it well. Itā€™s so hard to hold the responsibility of a guard all alone. Iā€™ve also felt this way. You are such a kind person. You canā€™t stand the prison changing with the power of your choices. So you need someone to be with. Leave all of the dirty work to me. Es: Iā€™mā€¦ a kind person? Kotoko: Does your head hurt anymore? Donā€™t worry. Leave it to me, and together weā€™ll be able to create the right MILGRAM. Es: I seeā€¦ that MILGRAM...
Just make sure not to betray her, or go back on your word- okay? It's like Futa said. If you get off now, you're a traitor~
Anyways, I hope this was a fun read! It was fun discussing this and I hope the logic tracked for why every prisoner was put in each group!

DC x DP Prompt
So hereā€™s a thought I keep having regarding Danny. Like I keep seeing people refer to Danny as a twink, so how about we go farther with it.
Imagine Pretty boi Danny, Iā€™m talking bout heā€™s got soft hair, cute smile, glows wearing heels and all around just looks like a Faerie (Heā€™s King by this point)
Going with this,he decided to have fun and convince people that heā€™s actually a Fae. The potential is endless especially when In the Dc universe.(Protection comes in many forms after all)
The only thing though is if he DOES go into Dc itā€™s for a vacation and he decides to do an Ember and be an Idol he also doesnā€™t hide the face heā€™s not human so to others heā€™s a meta who decided to use his powers to sing. He gets really popular and has being doing shows and concerts, till he has to do a show in Gotham.
Shenanigans ensue
Tumblr media
Hereā€™s a pic for reference
It has occurred to me that my Danny in this Au is a K-pop idol, specifically Stray kidz comes to mind when making this
Bonus points for Whoever can figure out Which Boy in Stray Kidz heā€™s model after
(Hint: People are Always Shocked when he sings šŸ¤)
Edit: There are 4 songs I have in mind for Danny
Going Dumb- Stray Kidz
2 U- Justin Beiber
Better- Arc North
Ghost- Justin Beiber
This is an open prompt anyone can add to if they like. Iā€™m curious what the phantom will add

It is far too late at night for me to be digging through my old traditional art. So.
The first arts I ever made of Chara, and Frisk. And also a solitary Chisk too. Back in middle school when I would draw on my phone. I am glad I got these old pieces off of my DeviantArt before I deleted it a couple years ago. Otherwise they would have been. Well. Gone.
Tumblr media
See here a Frara and a Frisk and a Flowey and a Chara and a Chisk. I am pretty sure that is the only time I have ever drawn Flowey. And it is the only time I will EVER draw Flowey.
Tumblr media
Another Frisk and Chara. As you can see. Frisk has grey eyes. And Chara has blue and red eyes. Because I was an edgy middle schooler. And Chara has always been my favorite character. So the highest honor I could ever have bestowed upon them was that classic duality motif.
Tumblr media
A little. Reference for the two that I made for myself. Ah. So sad that Chara doesn't have the ahoge I gave them in the previous drawings.
And finally. Bonus Chisk.
Because. Well. Chisk.
Tumblr media
So. Let's compare my old middle schooler self's designs for them vs my current self's designs. And. Also. As a treat. My first design of Kris from 2019 vs my current design as well.
Ok. First thing's first.
Frisk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So. Like. The way I design Frisk nowadays is in fact 100% based off the way I used to draw them off. Yes, there are some obvious differences. But the suspenders and the short sleeved shirt were, well, you know the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". That is always true. Though I will say that the little hearts instead of gold buttons, is also taken from the old design, because I distinctly remember thinking to myself that Frisk should have a heart in the back of the suspenders where they cross over eachother. And also. On the topic of the hair.
The way I do Hero's hair is 100% actually based on old Frisk's hair.
Tumblr media
Because well. Hero is the beta protagonist design for Undertale. And my old Frisk is basically the beta design for my current Frisk. You get it.
Next.
Frara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah that old design was extremely basic. I don't think I ever used to think about the Unused Human Sprite back then. But. Well. I sure do now. A big glow-up for Frara. And a height reduction. Their current design is very much inspired by the place in Undertale where they can be seen-
Tumblr media
Waterfall!
I think to myself. Well. What would a character confined to a constantly raining place need? A raincoat and rainboots!
I can't like. NOT give them stuff like that. Just wouldn't be true to me.
Chisk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fandom may have forgotten about Chisk in the years. But I will never forget about Chisk. A fanmade fusion of Chara and Frisk. I will never not think about them. They're in my brain like a song I love. Shawty like a melody in my head. CHISK OH CHISK MY LITTLE SCRUNKLE.
Anyway. Not much design notes for Chisk, past or present. Except for that the old design is a blatant ripoff of a design that I have unfortunately very much no source for.
Tumblr media
If anyone knows who the original artist is, please tell me so I can thank them for making such a wonderful image.
Now. Before we get to Chara.
Kris.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well. They got edgier. And their shawl thing got more accurate to their Dark World self. That's all I really have to say aside from FFUCK I AM SUCH A GENIUS FOR MAKING THEIR SHOES THE SAME COLOR AS THE SHADE OVER THEIR EYES. GODDAMN. BIG WIN FOR ME ON THAT ONE. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. HELL YEAH KRIS. YOU'RE A FFUCKING WEIRDO AND A COOL KID.
And finally. Chara!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My original design for them is. Hm. Well. I'll be honest whenever I see a Chara Undertale without the collared shirt and sweater combo going on I get annoyed, even if the one giving them a turtleneck is my own paste self.
Also. The green-grey shorts and boots were based on clothes I actually had at the time. So. Like. I have always been a big projector onto Chara. Shit man. Even and especially nowadays I project onto them. The hair, the collared shirt and sweater combo. It is, unabashedly, very self indulgent. Those are very deliberate choices. The ffucking Roxy LaLonde hair flicks and that combo of sweater and collared shirt is LITERALLY all over characters I draw. My own damn persona, my character Blue, even Blitz with his wild hair I will still default to doing like that in sketches.
Do you know how hard it is for me to not give characters that type of hair. And that collared shirt and sweater type combo. It is. The hardest decision to not do it.
Cutting this post short at here because there is another post I want to make.

Mindless Talking 01
(( I LOST THE ORIGINAL ASK BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO SEND IT TO MY DRAFTS BUT IT ENDED UP POSTING AND I PANICKED AND DELETED IT WHWHEHHFBEBRBHEHEHEHā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļø IM SO SORRY ANON ))
an anon asked me for more thoughts about ā€œ hero and villain maybe kidnapped by someone (or something !?!?!!) .. maybe they were getting hypnotized ! and villain couldn't handle it and got hypnotized in the span of a day while hero resists the hypnosis for days before giving up .. is that a mesmerizer reference ā€ so here it is !!! , heads up this is mostly basing off the mesmerizer theories >_>
maybe they were both kidnapped for something valuable, information, anything - even just for entertainment/for fun.
obviously both Hero and Villain refused / resisted this and tried to fight back so their captor(s) used the last trick up their sleeves; hypnosis !
usually it's the heroes who fell for hypnosis quicker but i think it'd be fun if it was the villain instead :p
this is more of a bonus but maybe if they were forced to do something that showed them to the public , Hero tried to vaguely reach for help- letting out signals (sos in morse code via blinking , etc)
in the original mesmerizer mv , it was shown that miku (or in this case, villain since they're sort of taking Miku's place in this scenario) was fully hypnotized in the span of a day because her eyes turned black when it was night time
whereas teto (or hero in this case as well) resisted the hypnosis for 10 days in total before giving in to the hypnosis.
maybe hero couldn't take it anymore and lost hope that anyone would ever find the two (or just them), that's why they gave in to the hypnosis.
this is just a silly idea that i had , lmk what u guys think if it :P
mesmerizer mv if anyone would like to listen to it - it's a rlly great song ^_^

Morimyu Extras Translation Commission Group Order?
If anyone has ever enjoyed the Morimyu backstage extras, like the Op.3 adlibs where Louis drops a knife and terrifies Moran, there are a number of people from the Save our Twisted Hearts Discord group, including myself, looking to fund translation commissions to have subtitles for a bunch of non-main stage Op.5 and Op.2 extras content by pooling our monetary resources together, as they rarely get translated otherwise, regardless of the fandom.
To be very clear, contributing is not mandatory to access subtitles of any of the extras (I generally use this term or "extras content" to refer to Disc 2 of any stage Blu-ray or DVD, but also other content that is not included on the main stage disc), and the groups orders we have made have already been used to help fund translations for the Op.1 extras, and most of the extras content for Op.3 and Op.4 (the subtitles for Op.1 and Op.3's extras are available on Kanasmusing's postings for Morimyu subtitles!). Beyond that, I funded the commission for the translation and subtitles of the Op.3 adlibs and a few Hakumyu backstages and I have always made all the associated media accessible to anyone who wanted it... just in case anyone needs proof of us having paid for translations of Morimyu content before.
Anyway, at the moment, assuming nothing happens, we collectively have enough funds to pay for translations and subtitles of most of Op.5's non-main stage content (this includes things like the adlibs and cast comments from Disc 2 of the Op.5 Blu-ray/DVD, the bonus team videos that came with the purchase of the streams on DMM, and the pre-order bonus DVD, though this does not include videos that are purely songs)... and are fairly close to gathering enough commitments to fund almost most of Op.2's main extras disc (this would be disc 2 of the Blu-ray/DVD), though we could possibly instead fund a commission to get translations for the Op.2 pre-order DVD bonus (we can do almost one or the other, but not both).
Given this situation, and how close we are to funding the Op.2 backstage (our general preference is to pay for translations of the more costly content first), I would like to ask if anyone has an interest in contributing to our next translation commission for Op.5 and Op.2's non main stage content... and that they please message me directly for more details, preferably ASAP, if they do.
