i think that the raven cycle is a great example of how you can have villains that are actually just people who are doing the wrong things and have selfish motives, rather than the stereotypical evil guy who has no other purpose or occupation other than being vile.

trc villains are fleshed out and behave like all the other characters—they feel emotions, are in relationships, and care about some mundane aspects in life.

we actually get to read about their viewpoints, preferences, habits, and goals, not only classical villain monologues.

the only way i can wrap my head around gansey/blue being awol during the dreamer trilogy is that they were going through their own crazy magical roadtrip adventure involving the ley lines and the trees

because how could gansey abandon his brothers and blue not talk to her raven boys without a really good reason?

living in henrietta must be such a vibe. like, there are all these small town mystery vibes everywhere you look and i can't express how much i love it. also, fox way 300 has got to be the fictional comfort place. the liveliness of all the psychic aunts and friends, the lovely chaos, the witchy atmosphere... i just love everything about trc setting so much.

okay i saw a post talking about ronan in the dreamer triology only really viewing “his people” as his brothers and adam, and not gansey anymore which like deeply hurts don’t get me wrong i wanna cry but i think it’s so interesting for their characters:

the biggest reason i think is because the dreamer trilogy can technically be read as a stand alone and gansey isn’t in it a lot, it wouldn’t make sense to mention him tons (this does annoy me a bit when this happens, not that i want like a fan-servicey mention every three seconds but it’s frustrating when you have four books of friendship and then it’s just abandoned, like even if it’s a standalone, it’s also a spinoff yk?)

but more interestingly, i think it goes to show the level of trust ronan has in gansey living.

the only way ronan survived after niall’s death was focusing on gansey as a guide and being his protector. he fervently dreams cures for stings for a guy destined to die, and attaches all of his worth and purpose onto gansey.

but now, gansey lived and will live, and doesn’t need ronan anymore to save him. it’s so bittersweet because they still are brothers and love each other but it will never be the same anymore

ronan views adam and his brothers as his sole responsibility and himself as their protector, while he knows that gansey will live and keep living, and that blue will be there to love and protect him. of course he holds a little resentment towards them for leaving, but i think he knows that gansey needs to move on, which is why he almost disregards gansey and doesn’t trouble him with any of his problems.

i don’t think it’s a case of ronan forgetting gansey or loving him any less. it’s just that they are not eachothers responsibility anymore. (but i still imagine the guilt gansey would feel after learning what’s happened to ronan…)

we get the moment blue realizes she likes gansey in and all the hang ups that come with that in agonizing detail BUT i want gansey’s pov of slowly realizing he likes blue in the same agonizing detail because i know this boy had a meltdown and shattered into like a billion pieces and then imploded before slowly putting himself back together like come on. or was it a gradual “this is happening and i can’t stop it” like with him calling blue after the argument with adam and asking her to describe everything just to hear her voice and letting himself slip. like did gansey have a big Oh moment the way blue did we didnt see. he drives blue up to the hill after her second argument with adam and thats when we see him really freak out over his feelings for blue so much that he jumps out the car and runs away from her. before that almost every time he thinks about blue he’s going knock it off, gansey and his thoughts darted toward adam, toward blue, and rabbited away and the boat scene where he’s absolutely admiring her and then telling himself not to ruin things. so ch.51 of the dream thieves is like the moment he can’t not address it, thats his Oh. Oh no moment and he goes right back to trying to repress it by saying “and now we never speak of it again.”

i still want the agonizing detail that went into every single time he ignored how he felt
