Nola and Gilroy have me FUCKED UP. They're both made for nothing more than suffering. While Nola was able to find something beyond that, Gilroy became suffering incarnate and suffered until he broke and the barrier was corrupted. The last thing his master ever said to him was "trust no one" but he still WANTS to trust Nola, even a Nola who doesn't remember him. He calls her Magnolia and he ardently does not want her to suffer. Despite the fact that he is failing and his pain is neverending, the only thing worse than this would be seeing Magnolia go through it.
Nola, meanwhile, has found a new purpose. She wants to protect and save those she loves, particularly Lilac. Over time she remembers who she is and what her intended purpose was, what Gilroy's current purpose is. She realizes that Gilroy has been at this for so long and his agony is so great that he has become corrupted, the shield cannot hold with him. So she decides to relieve him from his burden because she wants to protect Lilac and save Gilroy. She calls him brother and she wants his suffering to end. She knows the pain will be neverending, but the only thing worse than this would be continuing Gilroy's agony.
They have the same sword during the final battle. They are inextricably connected and yet cannot be together due to the purpose they were given. They were both made for suffering, but they each decided that they did not want the other.

Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist is a metroidvania masterpiece. It captures the same melancholy feel of its predecessor, yet brings that feeling to a brand-new adventure that improves many of the gameplay elements. Ender Magnolia doesn't reinvent the genre, but it does a phenomenal job of executing the metroidvania formula in such a way that it's one of the best games in the genre.

ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights sequel ENDER MAGNOLIA: Bloom in the Mist announced for Switch
From Gematsu
Tumblr media
Publisher Binary Haze Interactive and developers Live Wire and Adglobe have announced ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights sequel ENDER MAGNOLIA: Bloom in the Mist for Switch. It will launch in 2024. It will support English, Japanese French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean language options.
“We teased a sequel to ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights nearly two years ago, and we have received countless requests from our online community for a second adventure,” said Binary Haze Interactive CEO Hiroyuki Kobayashi in a press release. “It is an honor and a pleasure to announce our next title with the help of Nintendo during such a prestigious event. We have much much to share in the very near future, stay tuned!”
Here is an overview of the game, via Binary Haze Interactive:
Decades after the Rain of Death, a new journey begins in the Land of Fumes, where mystical powers lie beneath the earth. The kingdom’s desire for conquest led to the creation of the Homunculi, machine-like artificial life forms prepared to execute the king’s will. A recent resource-harvesting mission gone awry caused toxic vapors to emerge from underground, driving both man and machine to feral madness. As the Homonculi devolve into dangerous creatures, guide Lilac—an “Attuner” with the power to purify those infected by the fumes—on a quest to save the kingdom. With the help of friendly machines and spirits who fight in Lilac’s stead, fend off mechanized legions of lunging carcasses, cannonball-firing corpses and chainsaw-wielding goblins terrorizing the land. Turn foes into friends by exorcizing corruption from enemy bosses. Wield their powers to add 30 different abilities to Lilac‘s combat repertoire in an enhanced battle system where she can equip up to four special abilities at once. Improve Lilac’s odds of surviving this hunt for lost memories by leveling up attack strength, HP, and armor. Explore the depths, heights and far corners of the kingdom for lore-filled relics. Collect and trade gold for upgraded items at the Blacksmith’s storefront. Combine story fragments from the kingdom’s fleeing inhabitants with Lilac’s forgotten memories. Seek the truth in an atmospheric hand-drawn setting set to the soothing serenades of returning musical group Mili (Ghost in the Shell, Goblin Slayer) with a brand new original soundtrack available for purchase at launch.
More information will be announced on February 26 at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET via the game’s official website.

The biggest problem with Ender Magnolia is what it tries to fix from the original.
In Ender Lilies, every ability is derived from a specific enemy. In Ender Magnolia, you have a small collection of purified tuned enemies, that you can upgrade to add new abilities.
While in Ender Lilies, every character only have one ability you can use was annoying, but it kept your roster constantly changing. In Ender Magnolia, you get four characters, and you keep those four characters. Each one more different than the last.
You have Nola, which is basically the Umbral Knight. This is your main attack, and it is nice that you change your main attack.
You have the gifted child, that has ranged fist attacks, which have a cooldown. Which, cooldown abilities are a fine idea, but two of the first 5 characters use cooldown abilities.
You have Muninn, an Owl homunculus that auto-attacks.
What if you don't want an auto-attack? TOO - FUCKING - BAD. The fifth character you get has block attacks. So, your choice is auto-attacks or block attacks. You have three different auto-attacks, and three different block attacks, and that's it.
It adds - extremely minor - dialogue for the characters, while having a number of bosses that don't even give you abilities. Instead they give you upgrades for existing abilities. Each upgrade item can only be used for certain abilities at certain stages of development, which means you really don't have a choice. You don't have stats, lets say Mana Points, that you can use to upgrade all of your magick machine followers (homunculuses), you get a part that can upgrade one attack for one character, and that's all you get. And instead of picking certain stat upgrades, you upgrade them all at the same time for each ability, rather than being able to choose.
It also adds the ranged abilities to the same character, and gives them the same mechanic, even when it's detrimental.
Gameflow is improved, even if it feels like it's making it too easy to progress, so you don't cherish it as much.
