i keep thinking about the "belgian scam ring" conspiracy because it think it betrays a misunderstanding of how internet scams work.
like, the majority of scammers don't really spend their time carefully maintaining a story? they're often low effort by design. i got a series of spam emails recently telling me they'd recorded me masturbating through my webcam and i need to give them bitcoin or they'd send the footage to all my contacts. my webcam is never plugged in and i have no email contacts, i know that's bullshit, but it doesn't matter because i imagine they're sending that same email to a thousand people, and statistically at least one of them will fall for it. it's the same with the classic nigerian prince style emails, or the 'my cat is sick' posts from near-empty blogs with stolen photos. there's just not much point crafting a story to cover your ass when a half assed one will catch a few easy marks.
so seeing some users peddle the idea that the majority of palestinian gofundmes are fake and everyone who verifies them is actually in on it is like... farfetched? or at least it would be a logistical nightmare. i'm not gonna say high effort, organised scams have never existed, and i'm not gonna begrudge people for being cautious with their funds. but at some point the reality you have to construct is so convoluted that i can only assume it's just an excuse to avoid saying that you don't want to donate to people. and that's your choice, but at least be honest about it, because trying to discredit fundraisers based on flimsy evidence is doing tangible damage in the real world.
#not to mention the fact that those palestinian bloggers HAVE refuted the claims heavily#but like im saying even if they hadnt the premise is flawed#long post#also ive rewritten this like 6 times bc i kept going into tangents about gofundme's verification process

The number of commercial-scale Bitcoin mining operations in the U.S. has increased sharply over the last few years; there are now at least 137. Similar medical complaints have been registered near facilities in Arkansas and North Dakota. And the Bitcoin mining industry is urgently trying to push bills through state legislatures, including in Indiana and Missouri, which would exempt Bitcoin mines from local zoning or noise ordinances. In May, Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitt signed a “Bitcoin Rights” bill to protect miners and prevent any future attempts to ban the industry. Much of the American Bitcoin mining industry can now be found in Texas, home to giant power plants, lax regulation, and crypto-friendly politicians. In October 2021, Governor Greg Abbott hosted the lobbying group Texas Blockchain Council at the governor’s mansion. The group insisted that their industry would help the state’s overtaxed energy grid; that during energy crises, miners would be one of the few energy customers able to shut off upon request, provided that they were paid in exchange. After meeting with the lobbyists, Abbott tweeted that Texas would soon be the “#1 [state] for blockchain & cryptocurrency.” Technically there is federal mandate to regulate noise, which stems from the 1972 Noise Control Act—but it was essentially de-funded during the Reagan administration. This leaves noise regulation up to states, cities, and counties. New York City, for instance, has a noise code which officially caps restaurant music and air conditioning at 42 decibels (as measured within a nearby residence). Texas’s 85 decibels, in contrast, is by far the loudest state limit in the nation, says Les Blomberg, the executive director of the nonprofit Noise Pollution Clearinghouse. “It is a level that protects noise polluters, not the noise polluted,” he says. The residents of Granbury feel they’ve been lied to. In 2023, the site’s previous operators, US Bitcoin Corp, constructed a wall around the mine almost 2,000 feet long and claimed that they had “solved the concern.” But Shirley says that the complaints from the community about the sound actually increased when the wall was nearing completion last fall. Since Marathon bought the facility outright in December, its hash rate, or computational power expended, has doubled. Any statewide legislation is sure to hit significant headwinds, because the very idea of regulation runs contrary to many Texans’ political beliefs. “As constitutional conservatives, they have taken our core values and used that against us,” says Demetra Conrad, a city council member in the nearby town of Glen Rose. In the week before this article’s publication, two more Granbury residents suffered from acute health crises. The first was Tom Weeks. “This whole thing is an eye opener for me into profit over people,” Weeks says in a phone call from the ICU. The second person affected was the five-year-old Indigo Rosenkranz. Her mother, Sarah, was terrified and now feels she has no choice but to get a second mortgage to move away from the mine. “A second one would really be a lot,” she says. “God will provide, though. He always sees us through.”
shocking! texans suffer from deregulation and ineffective walls

Follow-up tiem baybeeeeeee
Detective Heart of America: The Final Freedom is an independent film made by Jason Steele AKA Filmcow. It acts as a follow-up to a series of two shorts he filmed about the titular character and his attempts to save America from absurd criminals. I'll revisit these shorts eventually, but I'll mostly be focusing on the film itself. I love this film to no end. It's a ridiculous, fairly stupid story, but it's genuinely very funny and full of meaning. Assuming my internal ramblings are accurate. Spoilers for the whole franchise, of course.
At first, the movie is fairly similar to the shorts, Heart of America is given a job to save America from someone buying its debt from China using Bitcoin. A normal Filmcow plot if I've ever heard one. He chases various leads, encountering characters from the shorts, until he comes face-to-face with the mastermind behind the whole plot: The time-traveling, reality-warping robot Ouya. Ouya erases America from existence, replacing it with the infinitely worse country of Fug. We all hate Fug. Heart of America tries to bring America back to existence, going through what America used to be, what it stood for, even how it came into existence. He learned from the Native Fugmericans, about their knots, their bugs, and their carrots. Then the aliens invade, and after the resistance group he joins is attacked, he and Ouya make their way to the alien's base of operations: The local JW Marriott. After locating the source of the aliens' power, the two discuss what must be done with it, Heart of America electing to make the entire world America, forever. This includes making Africa the US, but larger. The Eiffel Tower was replaced by The Statue of Liberty (funny, given the statue was created by the French government). And even the Moon, our dear sweet Io, was made into the US. Thus America was saved forever.
Okay the plot is batshit insane, so why do I love it so much? There's obviously the overwhelming amount of Jason Steele charm. Awkward conversations between characters, funny voices, random bullshit that occasionally stuns the characters as much as the audience, and a healthy amount of frankly juvenile jokes about Nazi boner germs and the like. There is also, for me and many, the notable political angle.
Jason Steele has always (kinda) been one for political commentary. Some of his oldest videos are about mocking Barack Obama for loving Mr. Mime, or John McCain for being kinda crazy and talking to vegetables and such. His video about the 2012 presidential debate is awfully apt, given recent events. Recently, his finale to Charlie the Unicorn has been pretty thoroughly taken to be a criticism of capitalism and its lack of desire to actually do anything about changing the world in any way that would prevent us from dying horribly. And I think its fair to say that a movie about trying to save America from being erased has some notable things to say as well.
There's of course the Native Fugmerican culture segment, which serves to mock people who appropriate native cultures without understanding them. The beginning and ending of that segment touches on how America, as well as all the other countries that Ouya has created and destroyed, began with the genocide of native peoples.
Most of the political commentary, however, comes into play near the end of the film. In the last 10 minutes or so, we're given a bit more detail as to what Ouya is and what its goals are. To keep it brief, Ouya is a device from the far future who can manipulate reality at will. It has repeatedly created and destroyed country after country in order to draw out the future overlords of Earth, the "aliens" from earlier, who have a similar device of their own. The aliens' device is different, though. It makes permanent changes, and Ouya aims to use it so that devices like it and Ouya can never work in the first place. Otherwise, the universe will be ruled by a tyrannical government whose reach and scale of oppression is so overwhelmingly monstrous, that the people who created Ouya deemed it an infinitely worse alternative to what they recognize as repeated genocides. What this means is that Heart of America, in making the entire world America and preventing Ouya from completing its mission, has doomed the world to being eternally dominated by tyranny.
This raises a few points of commentary that I think are worth examining. First and foremost, Heart of America is the bad guy. Jason Steele is no stranger to writing protagonists who are world ending monsters (see Llamas With Hats for another example), but Heart of America is interesting because he truly believes that what he is doing is right. Something I've neglected to state in this post is that Heart of America is portrayed by a statue of a Bald Eagle, one of the most potent American symbols, and a fitting choice for someone literally named "Heart of America." HoA (not a home owners association) is meant to represent the classic American patriot who really doesn't know anything about America, but believes in the liberty and freedom crap wholeheartedly. When trying to list all of the states, he's only able to put down Florida, Texas, California, Wyoming, New York City, and Vermont. He's generally uninterested in the other countries that Ouya destroyed, as well as the natives that died because of American colonists. All he truly cares about is the idea of America and American freedom. This is highlighted most directly by Ouya in the climax when it states, "No. But if you care about freedom, true freedom, this is the only way." This is responding to HoA asking whether preventing these devices from working will bring America back. And in response, HoA makes the entire world America. This is very clearly the worst possible outcome, and Ouya reacts as such. America is doomed to become the very oppressors that Ouya was trying so desperately to stop. This is supported by the credits, of all things, which shows the American flag changing, as it presumably adds more and more worlds to its intergalactic empire. It bares a striking resemblance to the masks the aliens have.
Not a one-to-one, but close. Enough to evoke the idea that what America inevitably becomes is exactly what Ouya feared most.
The idea that America isn't exactly the most freedom loving nation shouldn't be a controversial take to those within the proper circles. Enforcing our will on others for the sake of material and political gains is a common trend in American history. From our numerous wars with Mexico, to Vietnam, to leveraging our business relations for pressuring other countries into economic servitude, America has its fingers in almost every pie on the global stage, and it's usually to the detriment of the pie. Heart of America, then, is the blind fool, who believes America to be a nation without fault. Well, mostly, he does acknowledge that subprime lending is a problem. The point is that Heart of America is the kind of person (bird?) who goes to bat for America at nearly every turn, maybe acknowledging the odd thing here or there as bad, but never in a way that challenges the systems America is built upon. He's the perfect American exceptionalist, believing that being more like America will be the solution to every problem facing the world. Very literally, he makes everything America and just considers his work done. He blatantly ignores the idea that Ouya's warning might have any actual weight, charging ahead anyway, creating the world that Ouya came from to begin with. It's with this in mind that the HoA line, "I know you come from a place without America, which is the saddest thing I can think of, but that won't be a problem for anyone ever again!" becomes so much more ironic. Ouya did come from America. America was the only thing it ever knew. And Heart of America is the progenitor of all that pain and suffering. Another detail sticks out to me, that being the aliens' reality writing device. Ouya notes that it was designed by slaves, and that its appearance was, "... a small, final act of defiance" that was not understood by their oppressors.
This is the device. It is shaped like a heart. Assuming that Ouya is from America, that would make this the heart of America. The device responsible for endless tyranny, endless oppression, endless suffering, is Heart of America. Poetry.
Detective Heart of America: The Final Freedom is a movie about a lot of things. Sunny D, Shark Councils and Shark Powers, Merman Jesus, a German space elevator, and a 5th Dimensional Demigod. But it's also about the brutality that good intentions can create. How if you live life without questioning the system, even if you like that system, you could cause unimaginable pain. How the most devoted to an idea may be the ones to betray it most brutally. And how we, as Americans, owe it to ourselves and the world to ensure that we don't contribute to a regime that can and will destroy everything so that the ones in control can live unopposed. Freedom is non-negotiable.
I have other thoughts about this movie that I might share later. Some act as counters to my main mindset surrounding this movie, but are other potential takeaways that I haven't fully thought through. I should probably sleep for now tho, lol.

AITA for secretly taking back a gift I gave to my uncle?
So a little backstory, I used to be a huge crypto bro before it all went to shit in recent years. I bought into the story of bitcoin revolutionizing currency and I’m a bit of a techno geek so I got really into it. Anyway, my uncle (64M) was initially super supportive of the idea and was always fascinated by computers even though he rarely used his own. He was much more interested in the time we spent together knocking back beers and theorizing how the global economy would turn on its head in the new digital era.
On his birthday in 2012 I bought him his own bitcoin wallet with around 100 bitcoin in it (around 200 USD at the time) . He was estatic even though I told him he couldnt use it for anything yet. As the years have gone on bitcoin took off like a rocket and had massively increased in value. At its peak (in the mid 2010’s) they were worth 35,000 dollars each. Which meant my uncle was now a multi-millionaire. However, he was getting older and his mind was nowhere near as sharp as it once was.
One day, I asked him how his wallet was doing and he looked at me confused, saying he lost it several years ago in the wash. Admittedly I got red-hot and yelled at him for being careless and told him he couldve been a multimillionaire if he kept hanging on. We got into a huge fight that resulted in us not talking for a couple months. This was a couple years ago and we have since forgotten about the argument but the lost wallet has never left my mind.
Recently, I was cleaning out my computer when I came across an old .txt file hanging out on my desktop. Lo and behold, there was his wallet key that I must’ve written down for safekeeping all those years ago. It still had the 100 bitcoin in it. I immediately cashed it out for a total of 3 million dollars. An unfathomable amount of money for me and my family. I havent told him yet and I dont think im going to. He lost the wallet key and without it no one would be able to access it, losing it forever. Hes already assumed its been lost and has been over it for some time (he does well enough for himself) while it would be a life changing amount of money for me. so AITA?
What are these acronyms?

Hudson and Rex S06E14
Damn it, no Mankiewicz lol. Yeah, it was okay, had some funny moments too (Rex is a comedian). There’s a pattern lately where the promos immediately hook me up for the next episode, so even as I’m writing this, I’m already thinking of the next one.
Risotto, jeez, if I was a guy I’d hate Charlie Hudson for the impossible cooking standards he’s setting.
That guy messed up all the floorboards with his blood dripping all over! Good luck getting that out.
Rex being upset and whining as forensics is sweeping the house. Yeah, this sucks, buddy.
Joe did not seriously consider not giving Charlie this case. The man has investigated his own brother!
Well, that seemed like a cold night of shooting. I bet they all enjoyed that :P
“Looks like Rex and I are your problem again tonight”. Well, at least they’re letting us know he didn’t sleep at Joe's couch at the precinct. I’ve given up on seeing Sarah’s apartment and I’d like her to give up on the idea of pretending to live there too.
Are you telling me that packages are not getting scanned somewhere inside the precinct before getting delivered? Oh, boy.
I’ll say this again, if they don’t trust Rex to sniff out whether there’s bomb components inside a package, then there’s no reason to allow him to work in cases.
That’s a lot of keys and I can't help thinking of what their prop master thought about all this.
“Better be safe, right Charlie?” lmao the passive aggressive comment from Joe. Leave him alone, he was right this time. Trust Rex.
Rex barked at the ransomware? Yeah, okay, lol
Getting from low-tech burglaries to high-tech heist. That’s an interesting transition.
Ah, stakeout. And they’re eating fries which was what I was also eating as I was watching this, on a very random note.
Pirating one season of Death Note? How can anyone only watch one season? Lock him up! Also, are we sure this kid is old enough to work at a bank?
Sarah with the beverage assist. I swear, some of these scenes seem like reshoots to add more Charah after complaints were made.
Well, that whole car almost hits Rex thing was anti-climactic. Obviously I didn’t want it to hit Rex, but make it a bit exciting. And it was the cutoff for the commercials too? I mean, I didn’t have to watch them but still.
Someone really loves cryptocurrencies in this show. The displayed price is off by, like, a lot since Bitcoin took off the last few months, which is understandable. Also, assuming that it’s in Canadian dollars, I estimate by the price (if they used the real one) that they shot and/or post-processed this episode near the end of November, as it didn’t really fluctuate around those levels again after that. And kudos for displaying an accurate BTC address.
“Well, that must have hurt”. I beg to differ. These boxes were very obviously empty.
Wait, so is this the end of the unwelcome guests in Charlie’s house? I’m not sure I like the new security system.
Ha! Sarah is still after the risotto. I totally get her.
lol Rex! Look at that evil smirk. He’s totally tripping the alarm for the heck of it. To be fair, when Rex is at home, there’s no need to put the alarm on but let Charlie make the risotto.
While it was an interesting case, it lost me a bit as we were going through the names of the people involved. Also, I did expect someone who came to bleed out inside Charlie’s house to have a more personal connection to him. I find it ridiculous that packages which are sent to the precinct aren’t scanned for explosives, I mean, that’s the first thing you do when a package arrives at a police station.
Promo: Charlie with a bomb strapped to his chest! What’s not to love? Oh, by the way, remember what I said about concussions and getting hit a second time on the head in a short while? This is actually the ghost of Charlie Hudson strapped to a bomb. Also, he has an earbud, which is presumably to communicate with whoever is doing this? Can we use to tell Sarah goodbye please? If this is parallel to the Castle episode, Charlie is going to say “I love you” to… Rex :P
One more piece of useless trivia, a bomb is how we lost one of Rex’s partners in the Italian version (and of course Rex had to watch because why not torture the poor dog, as it was canonically his third partner that was killed). But somehow I’m certain that Charlie will manage to pull through.
Only 2 episodes left! As always, I don't care much for a renewal until we're almost out of episodes.

My dream last night was wild. The world was getting attacked by uh. How do I even describe this. Giant monsters disguised as cell phone towers? Like the metal would distort into a humanoid form. It's hard to even describe.
So one of the monsters was near my home and there were like 50 cops trying to stop it and it was just killing and destroying everything.
And i went to post about it online (of course) and one of my Ukrainian Twitter mutuals was like hey dude we have to escape to Antarctica. Go to the airport and get a flight to Argentina because there is a billionaire who is evacuating people to a secret hideout in Antarctica via boat in exchange for bitcoin. One of our russian mutuals was apparently rich in crypto and paid for all of us. Damn RIP to my Tumblr mutuals but my Twitterinas and I are escapingggg.
I got in the car and started driving to the airport. One of the monsters was following me the entire time. Thousands of cars on the road but very specifically following me. And I was like oh fuck oh shit what if it reaches the airport before I can even get the flight. Genuinely terrifying.
Really, most unrealistic part of this dream is that I was driving.

From Breakdowns to Breakthroughs: My Journey of Growth Through Adversity
Life has an uncanny way of testing us, often in ways we never expect. For me, the challenges came in the form of mental breaks—intense periods of emotional and psychological upheaval that shook my world to its core. While these moments were some of the darkest I’ve faced, they also served as a crucible for growth, rewiring my brain and reshaping my understanding of life and purpose.
Facing the Storm
When I experienced my first mental break, it felt as though my mind had been plunged into chaos. Triggered by the immense realization of Bitcoin’s potential as the next global reserve currency, my brain went into overdrive, processing what seemed like an endless loop of possibilities and implications. Understanding Bitcoin wasn’t just a financial revelation; it was a mental revolution that demanded every ounce of my cognitive power.
Subsequent breaks were no less intense. The second stemmed from personal loss—the loss of my family, including my wife and newborn child. The emotional weight of being separated from my daughter, halfway across the globe, was a pain I couldn’t have anticipated. It forced me to confront what kind of father I wanted to be and lit a fire in me to become someone worthy of her pride. The third break, influenced by the relentless sounds of artillery near my home in Lawton, Oklahoma, brought a sobering realization of life’s fragility and a heightened sense of urgency.
The Turning Point
Each of these mental breaks could have been the end of the story, but instead, they became turning points. It was as if my brain underwent a “stress-induced upgrade,” forcing itself to adapt and evolve. This neuroplasticity “overclocking” allowed me to think more abstractly, solve problems creatively, and approach challenges with a newfound clarity.
I began to see these breaks not as failures but as transformations—a recalibration of my mental framework. They pushed me to question the status quo, to seek deeper truths, and to chart a course for a life of purpose. In those moments of despair, I discovered the seeds of resilience and a vision for the future.
Growth Through Adversity
The lessons I’ve learned through these experiences are invaluable. They taught me that growth often requires discomfort and that adversity is the proving ground for strength and self-awareness. These insights have shaped not only who I am but also the projects I’m passionate about today.
Powered By Grace, my renewable energy and Bitcoin-based initiative, was born from these realizations. It’s more than just a business idea; it’s a reflection of the transformative power of adversity and the belief that we can create a brighter, more sustainable future. Similarly, my book project, The Day the Earth Stood Still 2.0, seeks to share these lessons and inspire others to unlock their potential.
Conclusion
Life’s challenges are inevitable, but they don’t have to define us. In my case, they became the catalysts for profound personal growth and a clearer sense of purpose. If there’s one message I hope to convey, it’s this: embrace your struggles. They might just be the crucible that forges the best version of yourself.
So, when life tests you, don’t shy away. Step into the discomfort, and trust that you’re capable of transformation. You might be surprised at the breakthroughs waiting on the other side of the breakdowns.

The mail scammers are developing crazy writing skillz now, wow.
I got this one today:
---
Hi sweety, remember me? I'm that girl from your past whom you fucked and threw away like a useless thing, after which my life became like hell. I didn't dare to write to you for a long time, but circumstances and desire for revenge forced me to do it.
I'm going to be very serious about my intentions from here on out, so listen to me very carefully now. It's in your own interest and you won't get a second chance. I should warn you that I have put this text through a translator for my own safety.
I really want to ruin your life, just like you ruined mine. I want you to lose everything you have in one day. I want the sky above your head to turn black as night and never see the day again… And the worst thing for you is that I can do that now.
First, I'm going to report you to the police for sexual harassment and rape. I've found people who can testify to that under oath. My attorney is more than happy to take the case. I don't think I need to tell you how this is going to end for you.
But I have to write to you now and ask you for a very important favor. I promise to leave you alone if you do as I ask. And that will be some compensation to me for what you have made me suffer.
A girlfriend of mine from Salvador is coming to the city near you for 5 or 7 days. I want you to pay for her trip. I also want you to let her stay at your place or pay for a hotel. She's a young 25 year old girl, so help her if she asks. The details and amount for payment I have given below. Keep in mind that El Salvador now makes payments in Bitcoins.
If payment is not received, it will be considered a rejection of my offer. I'll put my threats into action right away, believe me, I have the power to do so.
I hope for your discretion, but it's up to you to choose what happens to you next. Her wallet: [Wallet address] She needs 850 usd. You have 3 days. You might be in jail, babe …. or not, it's up to you.

This is really LOST-level non-sequitur character development, I 'fucked her and threw her away' so she wants me to put up her female friend with no contacts in the country at my place or she'll accuse me of rape? Some friend she is. I should sue HER! If I hire Saul Goodman, we can claim that she engaged in sex trafficking. Given that she asked for money and promised to send me a young woman in a vulnerable position, it's not too much of a stretch.
Here's the plan: I'll pay, then once the girl from El Salvador gets here, I'll show her the mail and explain to her that her 'friend' sent her right to a man who she knew would probably take advantage of her sexually. Then we team up and sue her together. Yes. That's a good plan.
